Read the article on cnn.com
Gun-control advocates praised the court’s ruling. “This is a huge victory for survivors and it WILL save lives,” March for Our Lives posted on X. Shannon Watts, the founder of Moms Demand Action, said the case shouldn’t have been heard by the high court in the first place and its decision to take it up “shows just how extreme this court has become.” Advocates for domestic violence survivors have pointed to research that shows the risk of homicide increases by 500% if a gun is present in a domestic violence situation. Amy Sánchez, CEO of the Battered Women’s Justice Project, said in a statement that the group was “encouraged by the court’s decision. “Upholding the restriction on firearm access for abusers ensures that these protective measures remain effective and that survivors are not placed at greater risk,” she said. Ruth Glenn, the president of Survivor Justice Action, an organization that advocates for survivors of domestic violence, told CNN Friday that “today’s ruling only really solidifies that we have more work to do.”

We need to talk about gun rights
This usually isn't the type of content I like to post and this has been said time and time again but I feel like I have to bring something to the table because of recent events in my life
Of course i'll put trigger warnings for those who don't wish to view this type of content from me
TW: Mention of school shooter threats
Hello, as you all know my name is Alec, I'm 17, Jewish, and I'm a Junior in Highschool. I have a little sister who's only three years younger than me and who is in MIDDLE SCHOOL.
Last night she had to tell me that her school had gotten a shooting threat, Of course I immediately contacted our mother to suggest that we both stay home today because I could not in my right mind have my sister dropped off at school when the notion of a threat looms right over her in an environment she should be safe in. I didn't feel safe enough to go to school today either.
I've been in a lockdown before where the threat was somebody with a weapon of an unspecified type and it was one of the most horrific things I've ever had to experience in my entire life and I'd wish that type of fear and panic to nobody on this Earth. Not even my worst enemy.
Nothing is worse than having to sit in a classroom and fear for your life and your friend's lives because of somebody else. A substitute didn't have a lock to lock the door and couldn't find the bolo stick to put into the floor by the door.
After we were allowed out I had asked him if everything went okay and that's when he had told me that. He had stood in front of the door and was completely ready to lose his life for the kids he was in charge of.
I've had to teach my best friend where every available exit in the school was his freshman year because in the event that something does occur I want him to have a chance of getting out.
I have lost experiences such as homecoming and valuable time in school because I was too afraid to show up because of these threats.
Adults and Students, especially young ones, alike shouldn't have to worry about getting killed in an environment where they're supposed to be safe and learn in! Everyone should have a right to feel and be safe in their schools. One day I hope laws will come down harder on gun laws so kids don't have to memorize exits in their schools, to always keep it in the back of their heads that they might not go home that day and especially so no parent has to lose their child to something so horrific.
If you would like to help prevent gun violence I'd recommend donating to Sandy Hook Promise, i'll leave a link below. Thank you all for listening.

There have been 416 school shootings since Columbine.
The most recent school shooting was today (September 4th, 2024).
I’m so exhausted from the horror of the world, and I’m hurting for everyone in Georgia.
I’m begging you, vote and canvass for gun regulation and reform.

📱Text APPROVAL to 50409 and earn FREE Coins!
I just tried it out and here's my feedback:
For President Biden, I might vote to reelect him because he took steps to repeal discriminatory policies like the Trans Ban (DADT 2.0). While I appreciate this progress, I hope to see a more critical approach to U.S. support and funding for Israel. Even still, Trump would be worse for Palestine. Vote Blue No Matter Who, until we get Ranked Choice Voting.
For Senator Murkowski, I approve of her reelection because I appreciate Senator Murkowski's dedication to child development and her progressive stance on LGBTQ+ rights. However, I wish she would support stronger gun regulation and prioritize green initiatives more consistently. I'm encouraged by her stance against Trump's policies.
For Senator Sullivan, I strongly oppose Senator Sullivan due to his positions against reproductive rights, transgender rights, and affordable healthcare. Additionally, his denial of climate change, support for gerrymandering, and alignment with extremist views surrounding the January 6 insurrection are deeply concerning. He is an un-American Trump Sucker and I need him out of my chair this instant.
For Rep. Peltola, I approve of her because I appreciate Senator Peltola's support for COVID-19 proposals and her progressive stance on marriage, children, LGBTQ+, and transgender rights. However, I believe there is room for improvement in her support for military service members, veterans, and moderate gun regulation.

NRA Warns That Gun Regulations Could Lead to Decrease in Mass Shootings
Tumblr media
FAIR OAKS, VIRGINIA - In wake of the recent Abundant Life Christian School Shooting in Madison, Wisconsin, there have once again been calls to regulate the selling of firearms in the United States. In response to these calls, America’s leading gun lobbying organization, the National Rifle Association (NRA), has warned the American public that gun regulation could reduce mass shootings across the country by as much as 99%.
“While we understand people’s grievances with irresponsible gun use, people got to understand that regulating our rights in such a way is a slippery slope,” NRA President Bob Barr told reporters. “The Second Amendment is clear: Americans have the right to bear arms, and by extension, the freedom to commit any shooting they’d like. Gun regulations would jeopardize this freedom. If we’re not careful, we might wake up one day to find ourselves in a country with significantly less mass shootings, and that isn’t the America that our Founding Fathers envisioned now, isn’t it?”
When asked to address people’s safety concerns about firearms getting in the wrong hands, Barr would brush off these concerns. “The world isn’t always sunshine and rainbows,” he explained. “If you’re worried about getting your feed hurt every once in a while, then maybe you should just stay inside.
In accordance with the NRA’s concerns, President-elect Donald Trump has vowed to counter the left’s calls for gun control by by banning guns in the country entirely to ensure that they can’t regulate the industry at all.

The real DeSaster is what Ron DeSantis stands for.
An unofficial campaign slogan of DeSantis is “Make America Florida".
DeSantis' 2024 pitch: Make America Florida
Do we really want Proud Boys molls to be able to ban books across the country?
Florida mom behind Amanda Gorman’s book ban linked to Proud Boys: report
Under DeSantis, Florida has become the state where sanity goes to die.
It’s always easier to prevent DeSaster than it is to deal with it after it takes place. With the GOP enveloped in extremist hysteria over the past couple of decades, we’re never more than one election away from fascism.
Register and vote in every single election.

Saying:
"Guns aren't the problem, people are" and "guns don't kill people, people kill people"
"We don't have a gun problem, we have a ____ problem"
Is like saying:
"Chemicals under the sink don't kill toddlers, the toddlers are the problem, they kill themselves by drinking them!"
"We don't have an 'unsecure chemical problem', we have a 'toddlers drinking unsecure chemicals' problem"
Like duh, in order for the toddler to die from chemical poisoning they have to pick it up and drink it themselves. Nobody's saying that the chemicals just float into the toddler's mouth
What we're asking is why are you leaving your chemicals unsecure where the problem can have easy access to them?
If toddlers drinking chemicals is what kills them maybe prevent them from getting ahold of those chemicals in the first place
Put them somewhere where they can't reach or secure them behind lock and key
This doesn't make the chemicals completely inaccessible to everyone, it keeps the toddlers that are incapable of using them responsibility from getting ahold of them
Guns are the chemicals under the sink we don't want toddlers to get ahold of, except instead of killing themselves these "toddlers" with guns will hurt other people with it.
If someone wants to use the chemicals, they are allowed to if they are physically capable of reaching where they are at and are trusted with the key to the storage area
It's common sense to have gun control, just like it's common sense to secure dangerous chemicals
