Wonka (2023) Movie Review
Tumblr media
I went to see the new Wonka movie over the weekend and I highly recommend it! First off, it’s a musical! The marketing for the movie here hasn’t been making that clear at all which is a shame because it’s delightful! The movie made me cry and laugh out loud right off the bat. It’s the first movie that’s made me feel like that in a while. If you loved the original Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory with Gene Wilder you’ll like this one! It’s got the same vibe and spirit to it and the characters feel like ones you’d find in a Roald Dahl novel. It’s a great movie to take your kids too as well!
SPOILERS AHEAD!
In the film, Willy Wonka is an aspiring magician, inventor, and chocolatier. He arrives in Europe to establish his chocolate shop at the Galeries Gourmet. Armed with nothing but a hatful of dreams, he manages to change the world, one delectable bite at a time. He arrives in Paris and after using up his meager savings is coerced into staying at Mrs. Scrubitt's Boarding House by a man named Bleacher who turns out to be her henchman.
After falling into misfortune, he hatches an escape plan and with the help of his newfound friends finds a way to finally bring his chocolates to the masses and free himself and his friends from captivity and oppression. The movie is designed to be a prequel to the 1971 Classic but set in Paris and depending on your interpretation either pre-dates Wonka’s arrive in England or is set in an alternative timeline or universe.
This movie pulled on my heart strings and made me genuinely cry within the first few minutes. It also made me laugh hysterically! The comedic timing was great, and Hugh Grant as an Oompa Loompa was hilarious! I loved the back story they created for the Oompa Loompas about how they came to work for him and why they’re so loyal. It was way funnier and a lot less offensive than I was anticipating. I was worried they’d create a back story for them that would come across as prejudice and offensive, but they didn't. They found a way to make the interactions between Wonka and Hugh Grant’s character funny without being offensive.
What really makes the movie work is Timothée Chalamet’s performance. It turns out he’s a surprisingly good singer and you definitely buy him as Wonka! He brings the same sort of mischievous spirit and kindness to the role that Wilder did but puts his own spin on it. Calah Lane, the actress who plays Noodle, his main collaborator in the film, was excellent! She’s definitely one to watch! The movie featured Colour Blind Casting similar to how characters in the Shonda Rhimes universe are cast. So think Bridgerton meets Whimsical Musical. Speaking of which, Abigail the giraffe totally stole the show! An excellent addition to be sure!
The supporting cast was fantastic! Jim Carter, best known as the Butler from Downton Abbey plays an Accountant; Rowan Atkison, best known as Mr. Bean, plays a corrupt chocaholic priest, and Mathew Baynton from Horrible Histories plays a chocolate shop owner who’s a member of the city’s chocolate cartel. Fellow Horrible Histories alum Simon Farnaby plays Basil, a bamboozled Zoo security guard, Colin O'Brien from Dear Edward plays a young Willy Wonka, and Sally Hawkins plays his mother.
Kobna Holdbrook-Smith does an excellent job of playing a police officer with a conscience working in a corrupt system overrun by chocoholics! Keegan-Michael Key plays the corrupt and totally inept Chief of Police, and Olivia Coleman rounds out the cast as the despicable Mrs. Scrubitt! Part of the reason the characters feel so authentic to Dahl’s work is because they are based on characters from other stories of his. Paul King, the Director, worked closely with the Dahl Estate, and Dahl’s grandson Luke Kelly served as a Producer. The trio of villains known as the Chocolate Cartel were inspired by Boggis, Bunce, and Bean from the Fantastic Mr. Fox and the character of Mrs. Scrubbit was inspired by Dahl's short story The Landlady.
Some of my favourite lines of the film were:
“Judgement has come in the most unexpected way!”
“It's a ruined castle.”
“That does defy explanation.”
“Shouldn’t we be focusing on all those unsolved murders?”
“He doesn’t even work here!”
I thought the movie did a really good job of depicting Parisian culture and how expensive everything is! In real life Paris is beautiful but there are so many things that the movies get wrong about what Paris, France as a whole, and French culture is actually like. In real life, things in Paris are very expensive, you have to be warry of pick pockets, and you have to be careful as many of the people you’ll see have an angle or are trying to get something from you or make money off you. I loved that they found comedic ways to show that while also highlighting just how beautiful and charming the city can be.
I found the back story as to why Wonka hates Slugworth so much and their rivalry really interesting. I wasn’t expecting it and I was pleasantly surprised. The implication from the film, if you take it to be a prequel, is that while Slugworth’s co-conspirators Fickelgruber and Prodnose were finished for good after being exposed he eventually rebuilt his empire which is why the rivalry between himself and Wonka continued. I did find it strange that when they went looking for Noodle’s mom, they just went down the list of people with that name instead of starting with the librarians and book shop clerks in town when they know she was a bookworm based on what Slugworth told them.
I loved the castle building sequence at the end! Although I was a bit disappointed as I thought we were going to see how Wonka expanded his operation to London at the end. FYI there’s a cute little bonus scene soon after the credits start so stick around for that! I loved the epilogue song and them taking the time to tell us that there was going to be bonus content and a post-credits scene right after the bat so you didn’t have to sit and wait for it. If you like musicals and loved the original movie I really recommend this one!
Until next time!

So for Music Meister, I get the feeling he'd be a sucker for someone who likes musical theater as much as he does. How does he react to a fem S/O being just as big of a theater kid as he is?
"Harmonious Melodies" Music Meister x fem!reader
As someone who was a theater kid in high school, theater kids can be an insufferable breed. Clarence is like this for a reason, guys, don't let your children get into musical theater.
TW: None
Okay lets be real right now, I don't know if you could really be AS BIG of a theater kid as him. Clarence was such a Theater Kid, other theater kids hated him. The backstage crew fantasized about set pieces falling on him. The senior in charge of being the sound technician had to be "convinced" to stop giving him the shitty mic. Don't even get me started on what the other kids in band thought of him. Because he was definitely in both.
He would be a total sap for anyone that comes close, though. There's a very good chance him discovering this information is a huge reason why he started dating his s/o. At least, it was even more incentive. Plus, given his natural talents and skills, she was obviously in awe of him with no hypnotizing necessary!
He's going to ask her what shows she was in. If she was reduced to a bit role or backstage, he'll state what a CRIME it is. That if it was up to him, he'd have given her the lead. oh wait, what a great idea- What follows can only be described as an obscene amount of hijinks and shenanigans involving musical numbers, dancing and far too much glitter.
If she was ever the lead or a major role, he's wanting a sample. Give him a monologue, a solo song- There's a half-decent chance he'd know the male part in a duet. Sing together with him, darling, the two of you can bring the house down!
If she had any aspirations for the big leagues, he'd support her all the way. Some of it may be less-than-legal but it's only because his girl deserves the best. If not, he knows he'll have an adoring fan in the front row with flowers for him. Red roses are his very favorite! Perhaps sweet pea if the florist has them in.
New show comes in that she wants to see? What a surprise, he's got two fantastic box seats just for them. A view to die for. He may or may not have hypnotized them off someone else. They didn't really want to see it anyways, it was just status for them. He and his partner will actually appreciate it.
And of course, he knows he can trust them on costuming opinions. Too garish? Not garish enough? Depending upon context, there's a delicate balance here.

The Lemon Legacy: Generation 1, Chapter 127 - The Aftermath
Xander tries to take his mind off of the other day with some yoga. It doesn't work.
At breakfast, when Gemma asks to go to the park, Xander agrees.
Gemma: Can Jaden come?
Xander doesn't have the heart to tell her what happened.
Xander: I think he's busy today, muffin.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ophelia is beside herself, but she tries to put on a brave face and works through her feelings the way she does best: through music.
Jaden didn't deserve to have parents like that, and now he couldn't even get a break from them with the Lemons. It's not fair.
Tumblr media
Gemma heard the sound of the piano from downstairs and comes to keep her mommy company.
Jaden was Gemma's best friend. How were they supposed to tell her his parents forbade him from being around them? How do you have that talk with a toddler?
Tumblr media
Gemma fell asleep to the sound of the piano, so Ophelia goes to talk to Xander.
Xander: You feeling better, Lemon Cake?
Ophelia: Hanging in there. I keep trying to think of ways to fix this.
Xander: I've been trying to rub my two remaining brain cells together too.
Tumblr media
Xander: The past few days have been hard. Gemma wanted to go to the park, it might help us clear our minds. Maybe I can call my sister, see if her and Omari and her girls want to come too.
Hilary and Omari got engaged recently and they hadn't seen them in person since then.
Tumblr media
Ophelia: That sounds like a great idea. I need to talk to some adults that aren't crazy.
Omari's twins were older than Gemma, but they liked playing with her. At least it might make Gemma feel less lonely. Lulu would be there but she's not very good at making sand castles.
Tumblr media
Though Gemma loves babbling at Asha and Zuri, she wishes Jaden was here. They always have so much fun at the park!
Lulu's just glad to be involved.
Tumblr media
It's been a while since we've seen Hilary and Omari. Hugs are in order.
Ophelia: I'm so excited for you two! It's about time. You guys have been together since before Xander and I got married.
Hilary: Hey, after my last marriage, excuse me for not wanting to rush.
Ophelia: Ha!
Tumblr media
Xander: You said on the phone there was something else you wanted to tell us. What's up?
Hilary: Well, you know I'm getting on in years, and Omari's not much further behind me. I don't want to miss out on the kids' lives or future milestones…
Xander: Yeah?
Tumblr media
Hilary hesitates, but an encouraging nod from her fiancee helps her proceed.
Hilary: Omari and I have saved our aspiration points and we're going to get Potions of Youth to reset our ages before we become elders.
Xander: That's great news! Why'd you seem worried to tell me?
Tumblr media
Hilary: I know Mom and Dad didn't believe in using potions to play Watcher. I don't want you to think less of us.
Xander: Are you kidding? I want both of you to stick around as long as you can. I can't annoy you if you're not here.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Xander: I age up into an adult in a few weeks. Does this mean I'll be the older one now?
Hilary: No, I'm going to take it before your birthday so you can't lord that over me.
Xander: You know me too well, Hil.
Tumblr media
Ophelia: I know you said you don't want wedding presents but I couldn't resist…
Omari opens the present, revealing a lovely tea set.
Omari: This is beautiful. Thank you!
Becoming sisters-in-law with your former client is odd, but Omari couldn't ask for a better one.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Xander pulls his sister in for a hug. Not having his parents there for his wedding or to meet his children stung, but he's glad his big sister will be around for a long time.
Hilary: Thank you for being supportive, little brother.
Xander: Thank YOU for sticking around.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Xander: Now that you'll be younger, maybe you two can have a science baby.
Omari: Oh Watcher, no. The twins keep us busy enough.
Hilary: We would make beautiful babies though…
Omari: Xander, stop giving her ideas!
Tumblr media
Xander: I feel like I should have the "don't hurt my sister" talk with you, but I don't think threatening to kick a woman's ass is a good look.
Omari lets out a laugh.
Omari: Xander, if I ever hurt a hair on that woman's head, you have my full permission to kick my ass.
Tumblr media
Gemma smiles as she sees the grown-ups having fun. Asha and Zuri are okay at making sandcastles, but it's just not the same as it would be with Jaden. She hopes he comes over to play soon!

Hi Femme! I always refer to your blog as the award winning blog because of how good your advice is. You’re changing lives! I hope you’re doing great this week!!
I have a question about how to feel young and youthful? Unfortunately due to trauma of my past and adultifcation (I began taking care of my mom at 17 due to medical reasons she has)- I feel old.
I’m nearly 26 and I can’t connect to people my age because I had to grow up fast and I’m mentally so much older and mature than most people my age. Because of this I get so sad and frustrated.
I try everything to try and connect with people my age but they either don’t want to hang out with me because of my responsibilities (I still take care of her and sometimes I am not available to hang out). And those old friends would mock me for taking care of my mom or throw it in my face that I have too much I’m dealing with. They have little to no responsibilities so I’m left by myself. I noticed a pattern.
So now I just FEEL old.
I don’t know what I can do to get genuine friendships for my situation (maybe having older friends— mid late twenties etc). Or maybe it’s the spaces I’m in? I want to travel and be around more like minded ambitious people for my field of work (journalism/events).
I also want to feel young, like my age. Idk what I would have to do activity wise or etc. I’m at a lost and so depressed.
I go to work and I’m the oldest cause it’s summer jobs and I’m surrounded by 15- 20 year olds and I chat and I’m nice but I can’t connect like that and they don’t with me.
I always knew something was different about me because of my trauma and what it’s done.
Thank you a bunch! :)
Hi love! Oh my gosh, this comment made my day. Thank you so much for these kind and supportive words! So glad to hear you find my content/advice to be highly valuable <3 Hope that you're having a great week as well!
As a fellow parentified child/teen in the same age bracket, I empathize with you regarding how to feel young, youthful, and feeling our age. For context, most of my friends tell me they think of me as their mid-30s-something friend (lol), so I know the feeling of being jaded and overly deliberate with your time, energy, and actions. If these people are in their mid-20s, it honestly says more about them than you that they're judging or resorting to mocking the fact you take your responsibilities seriously. So many people our age have full-time jobs, households to run (single, in a relationship, even married with kids), and all of the logistics that come with being an adult – albeit being in the "young person" category. These people sound immature for their age, honestly.
I would say the best ways I've found to feel a bit younger and more youthful include:
Taking time to let loose and enjoy the moment
Dancing around in your room without a care in the world
Engaging in some child-like activities you enjoy such as drawing, painting, or pottery
Having a fun and dynamic dating life
Going out for fun dinners, drinks, lunch, or coffee dates
Taking a workout or dance class
Strolling around the streets with fun music and an iced coffee
Going to a dog park or playing with friends/families' animals, etc.
Consider how much of an advantage we have when choosing to indulge in these activities: We have the wisdom to deliberately and more strategically enjoy these pleasures rather than partake in these activities from an ignorant headspace, which can lead to more negative or potentially dangerous situations. Understanding that engaging in this carefree headspace at certain times is essential for your mental health reframed my perspective and was a game-changer in my happiness levels, honestly. I hope this insight invites a similar positive change for you as well.
Reconnect with your childhood dreams and aspirations. Consider how you can explore them now that you have the emotional maturity and legal freedoms of adulthood. It's never too late to make even the smallest steps to actualizing these dreams. For example, getting a stuffed animal that reminds you of the pet you always wanted growing up. It can be a healing, self-nourishing experience even if it sounds a bit silly on the surface.
For finding friends you connect with, I would say the late 20s/early 30s tends to be the sweet spot, too. Some ways I think are beneficial to connect with like-minded people in this mid-20s-early 30s age group with similar goals are to:
Go to meetups, events, panels, exhibits, etc. pertaining to your current/desired field and interests
Join clubs and take classes/workshops in your areas of interest. Go to the same workout studios/art workshops/coffee shops/bars, nail salons, etc. you love regularly. Seeing familiar faces often will invite you both to eventually strike up a conversation – you already know you have something in common
Network both in IRL through events/people you meet and even on LinkedIn to see if you can invite people for informational interviews/informal coffee chats (either in person or over a video call). It's a win-win situation because you both get to expand your networks and sometimes, you just click!
If you haven't read Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents by Lindsay C. Gibson and Childhood Disrupted by Donna Jackson Nakazawa yet, I HIGHLY recommend them!
Hope this helps xx

Navigating Excellence: Unraveling the Educational Tapestry of Banyan Tree School (BTS) in Chandigarh
Tumblr media
In the clamoring instructive scene of Chandigarh, where each school guarantees qualification, finding the ideal organization for your kid's future can be a difficult journey. Among the horde decisions, Banyan Tree School (BTS) arises as a guide of commitment, professing to be something other than a school yet an extensive safe house for sprouting minds. However, does BTS really epitomize the brightness it guarantees? We should leave on a significant investigation, revealing the features that make BTS sparkle and inspecting assuming that it truly mirrors the splendor it purports.
Academic Excellence – A Pillar of Strength
The groundwork of any school's standing lies in its scholastic ability. BTS highly esteems reliably positioning among the top CBSE schools in Chandigarh. Its understudies succeed in scholastics as well as grandstand splendor in extracurricular exercises and cutthroat tests. Imagine homerooms resounding with exuberant conversations, where inventive showing techniques guide understudies toward reasonable seeing instead of simple repetition remembrance. Picture research centers as centers of investigation, where understudies are urged to try and find, worked with by cutting edge offices and an educational plan that advances logical request. This is the scholarly scene BTS paints - a material where greatness isn't simply an objective yet a unique excursion of scholarly development.
Holistic Development – Nurturing Minds, Hearts, and Bodies
Instruction stretches out past course readings and grades, a way of thinking BTS sincerely embraces. The school embraces an all encompassing methodology, expecting to support the brain as well as the heart and body. The educational program encourages the capacity to understand anyone on a deeper level, ingraining values like sympathy, regard, and social obligation. Imagine the school grounds changing into energetic fields for innovativeness and articulation, where understudies investigate their creative abilities through music, dance, and theater. Imagine sports fields resounding with cheers and sound rivalry as understudies push their actual limits, learning the ethics of cooperation and sportsmanship. This is the embroidery of comprehensive improvement that BTS winds around, guaranteeing understudies bloom into balanced people ready for the world with scholastic ability as well as areas of strength for a compass and a solid regard for them and others.
Global Citizenship – Embracing Diversity
In an interconnected world, training should prepare understudies to explore different human encounters. BTS figures out this, encouraging a feeling of worldwide citizenship inside its walls. Envision an understudy body mirroring the rich embroidery of societies and foundations, where contrasts are commended, and grasping twists. Picture worldwide trade programs opening ways to new viewpoints and producing fellowships across borders. This is the worldwide town BTS develops, equipping its understudies with the information and compassion to see the value in variety, team up across societies, and become dependable residents of the world.
Infrastructure – A Canvas for Aspiration
A school's current circumstance assumes a critical part in molding its air. BTS perceives this, flaunting an exceptional grounds filling in as a material for learning and motivation. Picture roomy homerooms washed in regular light, where innovation flawlessly mixes with customary techniques to establish an intuitive and invigorating climate. Imagine cutting edge research centers humming with logical investigation, offering open doors for involved learning and trial and error. This is the stage BTS sets for its understudies, guaranteeing they have the instruments and assets expected to light their interest and fuel their desires.
Beyond the Facade – Unveiling True Value
A school's worth rises above scholastic legitimacy, offices, and honors. It lies in the elusive strings winding around a feeling of local area, backing, and worth. BTS endeavors to make such an embroidery. Envision a devoted, receptive personnel, consistently present to direct and persuade understudies, scholastically as well as on the way of self-improvement. Picture a grounds overflowing with extracurricular exercises, clubs, and occasions, giving open doors to understudies to find their interests and fabricate enduring kinships. This is the unexpected, yet invaluable treasure BTS offers, guaranteeing its understudies feel scholastically tested as well as sincerely upheld and esteemed individuals from a flourishing local area.
Is BTS the Shining Gem? – A Reflection for Consideration
Anyway, does BTS remain as the sparkling pearl of Chandigarh instruction? The response, much the same as any diamond, shines multi-layered. It relies upon the needs, values, and desires of every person and family. BTS without a doubt offers various benefits - scholastic greatness, comprehensive turn of events, a worldwide standpoint, and a strong climate. However, knowing guardians should look past the sparkle and cautiously consider assuming its way of thinking and approach line up with their vision for their youngster's schooling.
All in all, the genuine pearl lies not in a solitary school but rather in the ideal arrangement between a kid's novel characteristics and the school that resounds with their true capacity.

Hello! I’m Tess and my daemon is Theron! Here’s a bit about us! This is supposed to be one question a day but that’s boring and takes too little long
30 ‘get to know us’ questions and answers below the cut
Day 1: What is your current form and why?
Theron: I’ve been settled as a ferret for a while now. It’s our aspirational form. Tess aspires to be more happy, extroverted, and energetic!
Day 2: What have you learned about yourself since discovering your daemon/form/etc?
Theron: We didn’t know why my form was a ferret until we did research on it so really, the whole reason why I’m a ferret was learned! Also, I have opinions that Tess does not have initially, but we realize some of these thoughts of mine are subconscious thoughts of Tess’s that we didn’t know about until we sat and talked.
Day 3: Why did you pursue daemonism in the first place? How have you benefited from getting in contact with your daemon?
Tess: My oldest sibling told me about daemons when I was…13? I admire my sibling and want(ed) to be like them. I perused at first simply because it was nice to have someone else here with me all the time, and that’s still true, but he’s just great company! Theron really helps me through tough times, helps me realize why I’m feeling what I am, and coaches me through life.
Day 4: How has your personality evolved since you met your daemon and began form-finding?
Tess: I’m more open with my communication, more in tune with my feelings, and generally happier <3
Day 5: Write about the day when you first met your daemon, as best you can remember it.
Tess: Alright! So my sibling (Em) and I shared a room as kids. We had bunk beds, and I remember us sitting on the floor facing our beds right before either dinner or bedtime. Em asked me if I ever imagine an animal running alongside the car while riding somewhere and I said of course! Em explains to me about Daemons as best as they could, and told me to look around the room and see if I can see my dæmon. I couldn’t see shit 😂 but I didn’t want to disappoint them, so I said I saw a toucan perched on the corner of the top bunk. (I’m not sure why he was a toucan, we should look into that more.) Em was exited for me and I figured, hey, why not have an imaginary animal companion? So he stuck around. I ended up telling my friends about daemons and as kids do, we played pretend our dae’s interacting. It wasn’t until I was older, around 16 maybe, that I realized he was there to stay and wasn’t really an imaginary friend. And it wasn’t until the last few years that we’ve made a real connection and are getting to know eachother more deeply.
Day 6: Is there a form that you used to think fit your personality but you've changed to the point where it no longer fits?
Theron: I’ve never settled on a form before I settled as a ferret so, no
Day 7: Daemons: What's your favorite form and why?
Theron: Being a Night Fury is cool! When Tess is driving I love to skydive
Day 8: Do you have forms you can only take on certain occasions?
Theron: There aren’t any reoccurring occasions in our life that require a specific form so, no again
Day 9: Daemons: What did you do before your human discovered you and made proper contact?
Theron: Floated around in his subconscious and nudged him towards the right direction/his homework answers occasionally
Day 10: Do you ever wish to switch daemons with someone on the forum?
Tess: No way! That just sounds awkward. We wouldn’t know eachother like Theron and I do.
Day 11: Would you tell future partners/future children about daemonism?
Tess: I’ve been contemplating telling my partner for a while now. While I think he’d be supportive, I don’t think he would understand and may think it’s kind of odd.
Theron: He’s a man of science. He wouldn’t get it.
Day 12: Daemons: What do you associate with your human?
Theron: personal growth, forest creature, a cool breeze, great music
Day 13: What is your daemon's color?
Tess: Not sure if this means physical color but the color I associate with him is Yellow!
Day 14: What do you always associate with your daemon?
Tess: Sun rays, a good tree to climb, joy, spontaneity
Day 15: Daemons: What do you wish your human would listen to you about?
Theron: I wish Tess would listen better when I tell them they need to have as much patience with themself as they have for others
Day 16: Describe your daemon in 5 words.
Bouncy, patient, (Theron: always right), warm, sassy
Day 17: Daemons: Have you ever given bad advice?
Theron: Never. 😤 Tess: Tbh our memory isn’t good enough to think of an instance but I’m sure there is one
Day 18: Do you and your daemon have a "theme song"? What about it makes you think of them?
We don’t but we should!
Day 19: Daemons: Pick a song for your human. Explain your choice.
Theron: Run Boy Run by Woodkid. Running away to disappear in the trees is very Tess, and it seems like a good trans anthem
Day 20: What do you love about your daemon?
Tess: I love his endless patience ❤️ No matter what, he is calm and patient and kind
Day 21: Daemons: What's one thing you like and dislike about your human?
Theron: Only one like? Ok, I like Tess’ connection with the Earth, it’s admirable and their love and respect for the world shows
Dislike: I’m not too fond of how quick he is to trust new people. It’s not a bad thing, but I fear it’ll end him up in trouble one of these days if he’s not careful about it
Day 22: What's your fondest memory together? Explain.
Tess: There’s no one specific memory but Theron pulls me through some shit and he does it so gracefully
Day 23: Daemons: Describe your human in 5 words.
Theron: Great vibes (idc that’s 2), cozy, smart, funny, talented
Day 24: What's one thing you like and dislike about your daemon?
Tess: I love his joyful mood! His default is ‘happy’ and it’s great!
I dislike that he’s slower to trust new people 😅
Day 25: Daemons: If you were a human, what would your fitting form be? Explain.
Theron: I’d be 5’10”, dark brown slightly curly hair, I’d be so fashionable but like, in a chill ‘I’m not even trying’ way, I’d probably skateboard because it looks really fun, and I’d paint my nails all sorts of fun patterns!
Day 26: What season do you associate your daemon with?
Summer 🔆
Day 27: Daemons: What tv/book/imaginary/fictional character could you compare your human to?
Theron: Aziraphale from Good Omens. Always seeing the good in others and wanting to do what’s right, caring for all the living creatures
Day 28: If you could only talk to your daemon one last time, what would you say to each other?
Tess: Oh that’s depressing… no, i don’t like thinking about that.
Theron: I’d give Tess my best advice and remind him to keep going. Think of me often
Day 29: Daemons: You get to decide what to do this day.
Theron: We’re gonna go out early in the morning and try and get some pictures of the local crows!
Tess: But not too early…
Day 30: Last day! Have fun: pick something random and daemon-y to do.
Theron: Set out around town with Tess’ camera and I’ll take the form of whatever they take a picture of!

Character Designs For My In Progress Book, Destiny’s Burden
Tumblr media
This is Sherilyn Rosuto. She’s a seventeen year old Chosen One in the world of Fate. (A world where Chosen One’s take up about forty percent of the population, and Destiny is their driving force of life with stories of their lives predetermined for them)
Her destiny is to be the sidekick/right hand to the destined new great savior, Charlie Sue. As such, she is childhood friends with him, and they support each other. (Their relationship is platonic beginning to end)
Her destiny is a hereditary one, as the Rosuto family is full of Chosen One’s who are heavily bound to the Sue’s. The only exception is her little sister Fran, who was born an Average. (Destined background characters with no fantastical powers or story at all)
Unfortunately with the last generation, the family became associated with twin werewolves. The guy remained loyal to Destiny but was deemed a bad influence for a bad boy persona. The girl rejected Destiny and chose the life of a feral wolf, abandoning her family. The Mentor Circle didn’t want this to happen again, so they put extra work into shaping Sheri into a perfect strong woman with nothing problematic to be of concern of.
She inherits her family’s ice powers, and is a brash brawler in combat. She’s been trained how to fight at a very young age by her many superiors like her father, her uncle, and the Mentor Circle. She has werewolf DNA, so they’re concealing her full abilities. ‘Weakness and savagery is bad.’ The Mentor Circle often shames her for not reaching their standards on what a strong woman looks like. Especially one destined to serve their best friend.
Despite all of this, Sheri is heavily curious of her werewolf inheritage, and the secrets of her family regarding this. She’s well aware of her flaws. She’s not book smart whatsoever, she’s overbearing to the people she cares about, and she’s often impulsive and brash. Her entire life surrounds helping other people, and she wants to do that. When she feels like she can’t help and she’s failing these standards, she resorts in certain ways to get her flaws out of her system so they don’t get in the way of Destiny; Putting on a mask, pretending to be this cocky punk who picks fights on the street, and is trying to search for their missing wolf aunt. Charlie is the only one who knows about this and is eager to get her to stop that.
Other than that, Sheri wants to be seen by the public and her friends as a good kid and a reliable sidekick. She takes every combat training she can find to improve her skill. She willingly takes on responsibilities in supporting others. She’s known for being the upbeat one of the group, is incredibly loyal, and a social butterfly with charisma. She has a passion for certain sport’s tournaments like bike racing and boxing, rock music, and artwork, typically spray painting and sketching. She has an aspiration to be a rock artist, but her drawing, sports teams, and listening to music are only hobbies and she can’t let them go anywhere because of Destiny telling her that her place is to be a sidekick to someone else. She cares deeply about Charlie, and willingly takes her role and makes as much fun with their Saturday Mornings (Weekly holiday, lock your doors, Chosen One’s are fighting some one off bad guys at night) as possible.
Her association with Charlie and the Mentor Circle means her sister Fran is shunned from society, so Sheri has very little dynamic with her. That is until Fran comes along one Saturday Morning, and some bad guys get away with Diamonds (their version of electricity). On Charlie and Sheri’s mission and collaboration with the princess Akari, Fran joins in to train as a Chosen One, leaving Sheri with one more weight on her shoulder.
This story is in progress.

‪[TRANSLATION] Arena Homme+ Magazine April 2021 Issue featuring JAY B
Translated by defdaily.
JAY B is free and starting again from scratch. That is what JAY B has in mind. GOT7’s leader announced that he would be leaving JYPE as the group stays together. JAY B is preparing to debut as a solo musician while planning to also release mixtapes and hold exhibitions as Def. We had a chat with JAY B, who has gained more freedom and strength, at the swimming pool about courage, depression, literature and aspirations.
Tumblr media
Did you come here alone?
Yes. I took a taxi here. I was the type to go around freely even when I was in JYPE but catching the taxi to work this time around felt new.
All GOT7 members decided to leave JYP but stay together as a group. As a leader, you needed to make a decision, right?
Although we ended up leaving JYPE, we wanted to continue as GOT7. We all agreed to leave [JYPE] and try it between ourselves. The product made from me taking responsibility/taking charge was the single 'Encore’ that was released not too long ago. I was involved in the whole process with a new record label. I was happy to see a good response [to the single]. It was lacking in some areas but I was just very proud that we were able to show a different step. Since we showed through this single that “we did not disband”, what’s next is more important. When we left JYPE, Director Jung Wook mentioned "Your role as a leader starts now." I'm realizing it now.
”I wanted to learn everything about the process of releasing an album and how difficult it is. I wanted to start again from scratch.”
Your role as a leader actually starts now.
I used to find the role of a leader burdensome at times but now I feel a greater sense of responsibility. While supporting each person’s journey, I thought I needed to be the one to step up once we got back together. We also talk regularly in our group chat. Not long ago, Jackson went to China. When Mark went to the USA, I could see him off but when Jackson was leaving, we couldn’t be together because of a schedule. So I told him to have a safe flight, apologised for not being able to see him off and thanked him too. He replied saying he’ll take care and be back.
What motivated you to leave the large agency you've been working with for a long time?
The thought came to mind suddenly as we were promoting as GOT7. Am I taking all these benefits I get for granted? When a schedule is released I just do it, and when they ask me to confirm things I do, but what kind of long process has it gone through before it came to me? Who sends a request and how is it processed? Why am I only waiting until it reaches me and simply watching it unfold? I wanted to be directly involved in that process. I wanted to learn everything about the process of releasing an album and how difficult it is. I want to be humble and start from the bottom again.
Didn't you need the courage?
Of course I did. I was also afraid. My position has risen to all the way up here, but when it comes to my actual knowledge, I think I'm only down there. I was afraid that the difference would feel too big once I left the company. But I think I would have been more afraid if I stayed at JYPE. Since that difference would have grown bigger and bigger. My real self is here, so I should face it head-on a little faster. That's what I thought.
As JAY B or as Def. who releases mixtapes and holds exhibitions, you must have had the desire to do something new.
I want to do research and build it up step by step without haste. JAY B will show hip hop and RnB music that appeals to the general public and Def. will do activities that Def. wants to do. It could be mixtapes or exhibitions, or other different kinds of fictions. Def. is the nickname I used as a bboy before I became a trainee. It’s like air floating about freely. It could be house or soul or acoustic or even modern rock. In a way, you can say that Def. is close to my “main self” but since I debuted as JAY B, I’ll also show a devoted side of myself through JAY B. I want to be a person who can do both what he has to do and what he wants to do freely.
Listening to your mixtapes, and hearing that you like the styles of D’Angelo and Ray Charles, you seem to be attached to the Southern US rhythm and blues and soul music.
I do like them a lot. I like the entire hip-hop culture that originated from there. That culture also includes DJing, graffiti and even bboying. Since I started as a bboy, I would look up older videos to watch, study the culture and also look into what each dance move symbolizes, with my bboying crew and that's how I became fascinated. What captivated me the most was their obstinacy. I felt respect towards the conviction and obstinacy they carried with their culture.
Is that mood still incorporated in your music and dance?
Yes. For example, I don’t think choreography is dance. I think dancing is when music plays and you like the rhythm and start humming and bobbing your head and moving your body. I think dancing is a free act you do out of enjoyment.
What was the reason you joined an idol group after starting out as a bboy?
I gained an interest in music too, not just dancing. When I was young, I listened to D’Angelo’s music and wanted to become a singer like him. But I was rebellious when I first joined JYPE. Haha. I was even suspended for a month once as a trainee. I definitely said hello but they said I didn’t so they said "If you're going to be stubborn, then go home" and me with my young heart replied “Then I shall head home.” and left. Then I met up with my bboying crew after a long time, and in just a few months it turned into a different world. The crew members were above me and I was worried because I could feel myself far away by myself. Should I go back to bboying? Should I continue as a trainee? In the end, I wanted to do my very best in whatever I chose so I decided to focus on becoming a singer. Since I wanted to do music, it was a choice I made with no regrets.
You started as a dancer and ended up as a main vocalist. What was music to you back then?
It was a challenge. Trainees are divided into singing and dancing. I joined as a dancer but what I wanted to do was become a singer and not just do dance. But since I was put into the dancing division, I worked even harder with singing to break that prejudice. I often felt defeated. I still feel defeated with singing. Haha. But music is about endless research. Now it’s more about research than studying.
You grew up as an only child to your parents who did farming?
I was an ordinary kid. I enjoyed Haruki’s Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage and thought the “colourless” kid was just like me. I was a calm kid who helped his parents with their farm work. I don’t know if it’s because I don’t have any older siblings but they said I used to talk to myself a lot. My mother said there was a way she would know if I was home or not. If I was home, she would hear me talk to myself and be like “Oh really?” “Yes really” haha.
Tumblr media
It’s extraordinary to read Haruki at that age.
There was an older friend that I knew and he was really cool. He looked really cool reading on the bus with his legs crossed. He said “Hey, Read a book and build up some knowledge.” As I was trying to be cool like him, I gained a favourite author and started reading more since I enjoyed it.
What kind of books do you like?
When I was a teenager I often read Kafka On The Shore. It felt like Kafka was just like me, and so while reading it, I even cried. The style of Murakami Radio was also interesting. The ending phrase “But I like that more…” was very witty. I’m collecting books from secondhand bookstores from authors who won the Young Author awards. I like Lee Jang-wook's short story Byeon Hee-bong. The main character knows the actor Byun Hee-bong, but the world doesn't know him. He would ask "Don't you know Byun Hee-bong from the movie The Host?" But no one knows. I like stories that don’t intend to be funny but they end up making me giggle.
What do you read these days?
I try to read poetry. I purchased and read the first volume that appeared on Moonji’s Poetry Collection, but it has too many Hanja characters. Haha. I started with Munhwak’s Poetry Collection. I have volumes 1 to 85. I also read poet Park Joon's collection of poems and poet Lee Eun-gyu's Affectionate Name. I even underlined and wrote things down.
Among the idols and musicians I’ve met, I think you are the most extensive reader.
We went on tours often and we would have a lot of time in my hotel room. When I went out I took pictures and when I stayed in my hotel room I read books. When I go on an overseas tour, I pack around 30 books in my suitcase. Then I bring back the books that left an impression on me, and those that didn’t sometimes I dispose of them there. These days, I look for independent publications too. I often look for independent publishing bookstores in Nakseongdae or Haebangchon. There are many books that contain honest stories that are not refined, and the power of those sentences is great.
How does reading influence your work?
The poetic expressions with poetic license help when writing lyrics. You read a new sentence and think “What is this expressing?” You receive inspiration from that image being expressed in a new way. I think of lyrics as poetry too. There are times I write how I feel honestly, but when I want to include a certain meaning I’d want to write the lyrics like poetry.
In your photo exhibition <ALONE> last year, you took pictures of objects and signs in the middle of the road.
Wouldn't it feel very lonely if you think about it from an object’s point of view? The camera captures just an instance but the object will stay there. I think each person has an insatiable loneliness. I like the artist Seonglib’s works, and I feel loneliness in his drawings. I don't know why I keep talking about loneliness, I guess I’m familiar with loneliness.
Seems like you take more pictures of objects and landscapes than people.
I don’t really like taking pictures of people. You can clearly see a person’s emotions in their eyes. I prefer hiding things rather than revealing them too much. I prefer objects, backgrounds, and natural objects rather than subjects that openly express 'It's me!'. Tranquil things, I like when you go past something and go “that’s how it was.” I try my best since my job requires being presented to people but that’s also how I am.
Who do you like as a movie director?
I like Woody Allen’s directing. My favourite is Match Point. It's a love story that goes beyond taboos, and it's electrifying. The face of the actor who secretly asks the reunited lover to give him her number remains in my memory for a long time. How could he direct such a real-looking, raw look in their eyes? When I was a theater and film major, I used to take directing classes rather than acting. If I were to direct a film, I would like to shoot an eccentric witty romantic comedy like Love Fiction directed by Jeon Gye-soo.
Are you self-conscious as an artist?
I’m interested in a variety of genres, and interact with crews often, but I think goofing off just because they are an artist is an arrogant attitude. Everyone is their own artist, no matter what they do, right? I'm not trying to be pretentious, I just think there's a difference in expression, and people who work in the office are also doing their own art. That’s why I’m a little shy about the title “artist.” Is there a need to be puffed up with pride because I’m an artist? I’m just a person.
Tumblr media
While filming for “What's in my bag” and revealed your medications for depression and panic disorder. When did you face your depression?
I didn’t know I had depression. I thought I was being weak for a short while and let it pass. But on an occasion I got examined and found out I had depression. They asked how I lived by without going to the psychiatrist. I said I just thought I was the type to feel blue. Haha. I’m the type that doesn’t show [what is wrong] but they said I was in a state where I needed treatment. After going to counselling and taking medications, I’m much better now.
“I just wanted to talk about it. It may not show, but depression is both a common and dangerous illness.”
I think you’re cool for having the courage to talk about this.
I got diagnosed and looked at the people around me. There are friends who are ashamed of it and try to hide it, and there are friends who talk about it as if it’s insignificant. I just wanted to talk about it. It may not show, but it’s both a common and dangerous illness. A mental illness is an illness too. Among my fans, or those who read this interview, if there is someone who feels depressed, don’t be ashamed of it and I hope you receive treatment and overcome it. It’s not an embarrassing thing and it doesn’t need to be hidden. And I was filming content where I show what’s inside my bag; I can’t lie. I wish everyone would be healthy.
Are you bad at lying?
Yes. If I have to tell a lie, I think it’s just better to not say anything. Since I’m the type that’s honest and straightforward, I also don’t like beating around the bush.
Can you share a way one can take a step forward towards recovering from depression?
Look at the world in a broad view. Know that there are many places you haven’t been to yet and there are many things you haven’t felt yet. It's also good to take a walk and go off your usual route and take a path you've never been on. Small adventures can also be of great help. Just by leaving the house you’re already halfway there. I think there are more ways you can refresh yourself outside rather than inside. Also, I thought I was an honest person but after being diagnosed with depression, I thought I should be more honest with myself and more faithful to myself. At times like this, think of yourself before others.
What do you believe in?
I just believe in god. I don’t have a religion. I don’t know what kind of existence god is but I do believe that there is a god. When I’m thankful or am having a hard time, I pray. “Thank you.” “Please let me get through this wisely.”
What is the greatest motivation that moves you?
As long as I’m alive, I want to continue doing work that will leave a message. I believe that there is no next life. I think I should live this time diligently to the fullest. To have no regrets.

Genshin character’s favorite musicals:
Tumblr media
I've been obsessed with musical soundtracks lately, so here's a little blurb of what I think some Genshin character's favorite musicals would be and why.
Childe: Hamilton. Something about the way Hamilton never stops trying to be better, to achieve more would definitely resonate with him. And of course he’d probably definitely vibe with the music of it.
More under the cut!
Tumblr media
Xinyan: A Star is Born. Of course, the story of being a rock star would resonate so well with her. But to some extent, I also think the main character, Ally’s i securities would resonate with her as well. Different situations, but the notion of being judged by appearances would definitely be something she’d feel strongly about, since it happens to her. Seeing someone overcome that and being celebrated for their music would be a great feeling for her to watch.
Zhongli: Rent. While Zhongli may be less familiar with the nuances of paying rent and some of the aspects of the film surrounding AIDS, I feel as though the messages of living for the moment and cherishing your loved ones would make him really emotional in the way the musical does it. The Life Support scene will make him cry every. Damn. Time.
Hu Tao: Corpse Bride. Not only does Corpse Bride Involve the undead, but the musical shows the world of the undead being so interwoven with the living that I feel it would be an interesting watch for Hu Tao. Not only that, but the music is so fun and cooky at times that Hu Tao would absolutely love it.
Thoma: Aristocats. Thoma would just have such a fun time watching this one. Not only does it speak to his love of animals, but the jazzy music and the wholesome story of the animals finding their way back home would just be something he loved so dearly.
Albedo: Willy Wonka in the chocolate factory. This musical would start off as such an enigma to him; how do the accidents related to the kids eating the candy actually happen? Can candy be made to do any of these things in the real world? Why would someone envision a world where candy is so potent and important, yet be dangerous during experimentation? He’d rewatch it so many times trying to understand the thought process of it until he found himself humming the songs and really enjoying watching it and debating with you.
Klee: Klee would 100000% be that kid that loves frozen. The amount of times Albedo has had to watch Frozen with Klee would be astronomical. And Albedo can’t stand frozen ofc
Kokomi: the Little Mermaid. Mermaid vibes! Jk. Of course she’d love the notion of a musical about mermaids, but that aside, the idea of wanting something different for your life than others expect of you fits so well with her thoughts on being a Divine Priestess
Bennett: Hercules. Bennett would be amazed by Hercules. Someone who has all the looks, strength, smarts? Everything seems to go right for Hercules, even when times are tough he pulls through. Bennett would have be so impressed with someone like that, aspiring to be as strong as Hercules.
Kazuha: Pocahontas. Pocahontas is so well connected to nature that of course it's something Kazuha would resonate with, especially with a large portion of the conflict centering around wanting to sabotage that nature to colonize. And of course, Kazuha clearly has respect for girlbosses. So a girlboss connected to nature fighting to maintain peace and avoid that? You bet. Although, Kazuha will often discuss at length how much he wishes there was more focus on that than the love story.
Raiden Shogun: Mamma Mia. Ei loves her light novels and what musical feels more like a light-hearted, light novel than that musical? The love story that goes along with the upbeat pop music is much easier for her to grasp and enjoy than some of the other more confusing light novels she's read previously. That's not to say Ei doesn't like more complex musicals and concept, but the feel-good ending would be one of her favorite pick-me-ups after a long day.
Xingqiu: The King & I. Being someone who loves to read, there is a high likelihood Xingqiu would have sought out to read Anna and the King of Siam, which was based on Anna Leonowens' memoirs. Since The King & I was based on these memoirs and real-life experiences, this musical would of course be fascinating to him. Of course, any musical inspired by real-life events would be interesting to Xingqiu, but this one in particular would be a favorite of his.
Jean: Lion King. This would be one she watched often with Barbara. She'll claim she watched it so many times throughout her life because her younger sister was a fan but in honesty, Jean was really taken with Simba's storyline of suddenly having a huge responsibility and many people looking up to him. And despite not being perfect, things working out in the end and everyone still respecting the young king. The symbol of the lion becoming king reminds her of the Dandelion Knight and Lionfang Knight titles she aspires to.
Diluc: He doesn't like musicals. It's actually Les Miserables because the music and storyline of it made him incredibly emotional, but he'd probably kill anyone who saw him crying to it.

That's So Cliché Challenge✨
Hello, hello! As a bored simmer I made up a challenge to have a little bit of fun so, this here Challenge is called "That's So Cliché" as in ya know, clichés! Well not just any clichés, clichés that are fun and somewhat different than how I usually play so let's get on with it!
Just to be noted, I may change the name of this challenge later if I think of something better, suggestions are much welcomed.
Anyhoo!
These are based on movie, TV shows and book clichés, ones you know or don't know but of course it wouldn't be a good challenge if I didn't add twists! And boy are there twists!

You know the player, the one sim that all the girls/guys love and you don't know why, they are good lookin' but their personality is way off, they dates around, they drink like their life depends on it, they cheat with no interest in the consequences but they look good while doing it! So that's really all that matters, right?

Your life was going fine, your life was just dandy....until you turned into a teenager and realized how cold and unforgiving the world was, you wish you retained the ignorance of your childhood but of course, that wouldn't happen because the world is just too cruel! and since nobody understands you or your way of thinking you shut them out to protect them from the cruelty of the world around them.

Have four past relationships (all before you become an adult) get married to someone who is your opposite.
When you become an adult, you realize that the way you lived was embarrassing so you changed your style, your hair and your career in hopes people would forget about your past.
Raise your children to not be like you.
Have cats.

The Things We Can’t Tell Pete About
Pete invites you to meet his friends from The Dirt and makes you promise not to flirt with any of them, which is a lot easier said than done, especially when Colson Baker acts like that.
Request: “Hey so I love all your writing and I just thought you should know that! But also I’d your requests are on still would you mind writing a youre Pete’s little sister but kells got a crush xx”
Colson x reader
Warnings: Drug use, Cursing

New York was lonely without your brother. He had been filming in New Orleans for the past three months, leaving you alone. You had some friends, but Pete was your best friend. You were only eight months younger than him and practically attached at the hip. You supposed going through trauma together would do that to people.
He facetimed you all the time from set, updating you on things in his life, showing you cool stuff from the set, and introducing you to his castmates. You had kept him updated on your music, playing him demos of songs you were writing and getting his opinion on them.
Him being away wasn’t the worst thing in the world, but it definitely sucked for you. So, when Pete texted you that he was having a few friends from the movie over the night he got back, you were ecstatic.
Before you left your apartment to walk to his, he texted you.
You’re not allowed to flirt with any of my friends
You rolled your eyes as you locked your door, preparing a response.
I’ll try my best
Your phone buzzed seconds later.
I’m serious. I don’t trust any of them with you.
And I don’t need that kind of awkwardness in my life
Like if you date one of my friends and it goes badly
I don’t wanna deal with that shit
You chuckled at his chain of texts.
Don’t flirt with your friends because they’re dicks, got it
Don’t worry bro, I know the sibling code
You came to find out that that was a lot easier said than done. When you walked into his place, everyone in the room turned to look at you. You recognized most of them from your facetimes with Pete, but you doubted they remembered who you were. One who did remember you was Colson, Pete’s new best friend. He made eye contact with you from across the room, a sly grin on his lips. You sent him a small smile, Pete’s text running through your head briefly.
You found your brother lounging on the couch, a huge grin on his face. He was definitely tripping on mushrooms. “Y/N!” He yelled. “This is my baby sister, everyone.”
You rolled your eyes, walking further into the room, grabbing a drink from the cooler, and taking an empty seat on the opposite couch. “I’m less than a year younger than you, Pete.”
You heard a snicker from the one of the guys, looking over to see Colson covering up the smile on his face. “But you’re still younger than me so it counts.”
Everyone went back to their own conversations, which you were thankful for. “Y/N, you remember Colson, right?” Pete motioned to the blond guy.
“Yeah.” You nodded, looking him up and down. His muscle tank exposed the sleeves of tattoos, which seemed to cover every inch of his skin. “Your hair was different, but yeah I remember you.” You opened the beer on the coffee table, taking a swig.
“You’re the musician, right?” He asked you, leaning back onto the couch.
You nodded, “Aspiring musician but, yeah.”
“Oh, she’s great. You should hear her sometime.” Pete butted in, grinning like an idiot at you.
You rolled your eyes but had a smile on your face. “I work primarily as a songwriter and editor right now, but I’m trying to work on putting out some of my own stuff.”
You felt a little intimidated talking to Machine Gun Kelly about music, seeing as he was one of the best in the industry, but he seemed to be genuinely interested in your work. “Well, if you ever want some help or someone to listen to it, I’d be willing.” He flashed a smile, his bright blue eyes sparkling.
“Thanks, that’s really cool of you.” You bit your lip slightly, trying to hide the fact that you were totally breaking Pete’s rule.
Pete sent a glare your way to which you raised your eyebrow. You weren’t really flirting; you were just… making connections. “Anyways,” he cleared his throat, “I’ve been working on this sketch idea, Y/N, and I need your opinion.”
You nodded, letting him talk. “So, I was thinking like, there’s this guy with posters all over his wall. Like life size posters of a bunch of different people. And he falls asleep while doing homework and he dreams about them coming to life. And it plays out like one of those really bad commercials that encourage kids to stay in school and shit. Like the posters are telling him to study for his test, but then there’s this one poster that’s like, very sexy. And she’s just like, talking about hot dogs and everyone else gets really sick of it and one of the other posters tries to like, tear down her poster or something.”
Throughout his description, you got more and more confused. “Pete, that’s not funny that’s just fuckin weird.” His mouth hung open in shock. “Dude, seriously? The big punchline is the playboy poster girl talking about hot dogs until the other poster people get tired of it?”
“Yes.” Pete said, as if it were obvious. “That’s hilarious.” You glanced at Colson with a questioning look on your face. He seemed as unsure of the joke as you were.
“Pete, man, that’s not your best work.” Colson clapped him on the shoulder and you giggled at Pete’s disappointed expression.
“You guys are mean.” He pouted and you two laughed. “Ok, well, how would you make it funny?”
“I don’t know if you can, bro.” Colson’s laugh was contagious. When he laughed his whole body shook, his feet stomping and everything.
“What are the other posters?” You asked, trying to be supportive but knowing this wouldn’t turn out very good.
“Well, I was thinking maybe one is like a video game character. Like that lady from Wreck-It-Ralph. The mean one. And then like a snowboarder who is definitely high, and someone else, I dunno.” He shrugged, taking a hit from the joint in his hand and passing it to you.
“Okay…” You trailed off, looking at Colson for support. You brought the blunt to your lips, inhaling the smoke and bringing it down, letting the smoke leave your mouth slowly. You passed the joint to Colson, who gladly took it, a smirk on his face.
Pete looked between you two at the small interaction, a frown. “So, the posters,” he brought your attention away from the man again, “they’re all really serious about teaching this dude math. But the hotdog girl just keeps talking about hot dogs in like this really high-pitched voice.”
You watched the smoke fall from Colson’s lips, not fully paying attention to your brother.
“Yeah man, I think that sounds funny.” Colson told Pete, his eyes lingering on you for a little longer than they should have. “It could use some work but if anyone can make it funny, it’s you.” Colson punched your brother on the shoulder, but the look he sent you said the exact opposite.
You held in your giggle, taking another sip of your beer.
The rest of the night followed a similar pattern, you and Colson flirting and Pete trying to get in between you two. At one point, after a few more hits of weed and a couple more drinks, Colson brought out a guitar, insisting you play something for him. Where he got the guitar from, you had no idea, but you didn’t ask questions. Instead, you rolled your eyes, insisting that “if I have to play something, so do you.”
Everyone was too caught up in their own conversations to care about the noise, or too drunk. You started strumming, trying to remember the chords to a song you had started writing a few days ago. “There’s no lyrics yet, just a melody I came up with.” You blushed, feeling very self-conscious suddenly.
“Guess I’ll just free style to it then.” He chuckled as you started to strum, your fingers working the strings like they had your whole life.
The blond man closed his eyes, head nodding as you played and thinking of what to rap.
“Watch me, take a good thing and fuck it all up in one night. Catch me, I’m the one on the run away from the headlights.
No sleep, up all week wastin time with people I don’t like. I think, somethin’s fuckin wrong with me.
You smiled as he sang, watching his expressions change as he tried to think up the next line.
Drown myself in alcohol, that shit never helps at all
I might say some stupid things tonight when you pick up this call
I be hearin silence on the other side for way to long, I can taste it on my tongue, I can tell that somethin’s wrong.”
He opened his eyes, looking rather proud of himself. “I had some of those lyrics already, but I just changed ‘em a little. I really liked that.”
You nodded, “That was impressive.” You smiled, looking back down to the guitar when something hit you.
You began to play the same melody but pitched higher to fit your voice.
“Roll me up, and smoke me love
And we could fly into the night
You take drugs, to let go, and figure it all out on your own
Take drugs, on gravestones, to figure it all out on your own.”
You looked up to Colson, watching his expression change, his eyes wide. Pete had a proud look on his face.
“Pete, you are a sucky hype man. You did her no justice.” Colson hit Pete on the arm.
“Whaddya mean, I told you she was great.”
Colson looked over to you, a stupid smile on his face. “Seriously, that was fucking amazing. Like, we gotta write that shit out some day.”
You bit your lip, trying to stop the blush from reaching your cheeks. “Yeah, that’d be cool.” You were trying your best to keep your cool as Colson kept his gaze on you, but you were completely freaking out on the inside.
A little while later, almost everyone was gone except you, Pete, Colson, and Douglas Booth, who joined your conversation not long after your jam session. Pete let out a yawn, directing your attention to the time.
“Jesus, it’s already 4am?” You asked, a frown on your face.
“Why, you got somewhere to be, darling?” Douglas asked you, your face scrunching up from the nickname.
“I have a writing session at 11 am tomorrow. Or, today, I guess.”
Pete reached out to hit you in the head, playfully, which you dodged. “Go to bed, dummy.”
You shrugged, “I’m gonna be dead at it anyways, might as well keep the party going a little longer.”
Douglas rolled his eyes, patting your shoulder. “Be that as it may, I am ending this party and going home. Goodnight, guys. It was nice meeting you again, Y/N. Good to see you guys.” Douglas and the guys did that little hand slap and hug thing before he left.
“I love you both, but I will also be going to sleep. And you should too.” Pete stood up, stretching his arms out before giving Colson a fist bump and leaving to his bedroom.
Once your older brother left, Colson moved to the couch you were on, his arm falling over your shoulders. You looked up at him, raising an eyebrow. “And how can I help you Mr. Kelly?”
He chuckled, shaking his head. “I’m assuming Pete gave us both very similar talking to’s, given the glares you’ve been receiving all night.”
“You mean the “don’t flirt with my friends” talking to or the other one?” You tilted your head, a sly look on your face.
“That’s the one.” Colson laughed through his nose, an adorable smile on his face. You were both considerably high, but you still knew exactly what you were doing.
You moved closer to Colson’s body, “Well then I guess we’d better not do this.” You said quietly, leaning into him. “Or this,” You grabbed his jaw, inches from his face.
“Or this?” He whispered, connecting your lips. You smiled into the kiss, tasting the weed on his tongue. You adjusted your body so you were facing him, his arm that was once around your shoulder now wrapped around your waist.
His other hand grabbed your leg, pulling you up so you were straddling his lap, and your arms wrapped around his neck. His lips seemed to fit perfectly around yours, and you did all you could to keep yourself from moaning into the kiss as his hand began to travel up your leg.
Realization hit you like a brick wall, and you pulled away, your breathing heavy. “Sorry,” you muttered after a few seconds. You climbed off his lap, smoothing out your shirt. “We shouldn’t do that. I shouldn’t have done that.” You smiled awkwardly down at him.
He nodded, the same realization hitting him. “Yeah, that’s not the best idea. Sorry I wasn’t really thinking.”
You shook your head, cheeks still very red. “No, no, no don’t apologize. It was fine, it’s all fine.”
He nodded, looking down awkwardly. “I should get going.” He stood up, landing a little too close to you.
“Why don’t you just sleep here? Pete won’t mind and it’s a lot easier than going home.” You bit your lip awkwardly, taking a few steps back.
Colson scratched the back of his neck. This was a very different demeanor than he had before, and you found it very cute. “Are you sure?”
You nod. “I’ll get you some blankets and pillows.” You moved towards the guest bedroom, a guilty smile on your face. You moved your hand to your lips, feeling where Colson’s lips had graced you minutes before.
You came back to find Colson laying on the couch, one hand behind his head. “We don’t have to tell Pete about that, right?”
You shook your head, a small smile still playing on your lips. You put the pillow behind his head, watching his eyes as he watched your lips. “Stop looking at me like that or I’ll do something else we can’t tell Pete about.” You said quietly, watching him grin. You pulled the blanket over him, leaning down to be level with his face.
“I kind of like the things we can’t tell Pete about.” Colson chuckled, leaning forward to connect your lips again.

Hey, everyone!
Here’s part two of our heir(ess) vote! I love all of our choices for the heir(ess) of our next generation, and I hope you like the approach I’m taking with the next generation! I like to do something different each time, so I thought it would be fun to have an heir(ess) with a storyline entwined with that of a sibling!
Thanks again for another early heir(ess) vote, but this allows me to get the rest of the story sorted for our heir(ess) and spares!
Here’s the link to our heir(ess) vote, which I’m posting a few times per post as I know tumblr likes to eat long posts when viewing on mobile: https://poll-maker.com/QP268QS1W

Reed Quick ~
Music has always coursed through Reed’s veins! Growing up, Reed has always found music soothing. As a toddler, she was constantly picked on by her older sister, Jazz, who was jealous of the attention she was getting when she was first welcomed into the family. Music became her safe space. Even if Reed couldn’t understand the words, she could feel the emotions behind the lyrics to any song. Her level of understanding through her empathic alien abilities meant that Reed quickly levelled up all her skills when she was a toddler and through her childhood years. She continues to be an overachiever to this day!
Although Reed uses music as an escape, she also has a small support network in the form of her little brother, Glitch. The two have been best friends since they were toddlers and she wouldn’t know where she would be without her brother! He’s confident and sociable, bringing her out of her shell. Reed knows she needs to branch out and meet other people, but she’s kinda clumsy and fumbles over her words a lot, making her a bit socially awkward. Glitch helps her find a few friends, but she’d rather hang out with sims she trusts - her siblings.
Wanting some independence and to push herself, Reed has a job as a barista. Learning to deal with tough customers improves her self confidence and makes her stand up for herself, lessons she had needed to learn since she was young. Music was once her escape, but now becomes a hobby she associates with positive things too!
Upon ageing up into a young adult, Reed moves in with her brother, Glitch, wondering how to best approach a career in music. She thinks she should study, but her little brother encourages her to make an impulsive decision with him - joining a talent contest! Will the brother and sister duo launch into stardom with their risky decision?
Glitch Quick ~
Glitch may be the youngest of five siblings, but sims find it hard to see the age difference between him and his relatives! The five Quick siblings, Cara, Jazz, Bell, Reed and Glitch have had their ups and downs, due to varying interests and personalities, but they always have each other’s backs. Glitch is always the first to jump in and support a friend or family member. His bro trait makes him a brother-figure to any sim, sociable, confident and protective.
As the youngest in the family, Glitch hasn’t fallen into the trap like his other siblings of feeling like he needs to achieve as much as they do. He’s a top student and has lots of friends, but doesn’t stress himself out about his work. His mothers, Zeta and Esme, love their children so much, with no expectations for their life choices. As long as Glitch and his siblings are happy, then Glitch’s parents will support them no matter where they go in life!
Always inspired by his big sister and best friend, Reed, Glitch follows her passion for music and desire for independence. Self confidence comes more naturally to him than his sister, so getting a job will be a great way to meet new sims! Glitch gets a job in retail, working in a record shop. Due to his charismatic personality, Glitch draws lots of new customers to the shop! Many of them are his classmates, some wanting to be his friend and others with crushes on him! Glitch becomes known as the heartthrob of the school, an attractive sim both inside and outside!
Upon ageing up into a young adult, Glitch wants to continue his career in music. He’s starting from the bottom - a retail employee at a record store - but wants to be top of the charts one day! The sensible way to get a career in music would be to study and work hard, but Glitch is confident he can take a shortcut to stardom! Now living with his big sister, Reed, he asks her something daring - join a talent contest with him to win the chance of a record contract! Will the Quick sibling duo cut corners and become and international sensation?

Dear Evan Hansen
Tumblr media
You may have seen some ~online discourse~ about the film Dear Evan Hansen, an adaptation of the 2016 Broadway musical, and you might have wondered what all the hubbub is about. I mean, it’s a feel good story about a senior in high school, Evan Hansen (Ben Platt), who has some pretty severe anxiety and depression. While trying to fulfill an assignment from his therapist to write a letter to himself, his letter gets picked up by another student, Connor (Colton Ryan) - and later that day, Connor kills himself. Connor’s grieving parents and sister Zoe (Amy Adams, Danny Pino, and Kaitlyn Dever) are desperate to learn more from the boy they think was Connor’s best friend - after all, Connor’s suicide note was a letter addressed to “Dear Evan Hansen.” And, as you can imagine, Evan tells them about the unfortunate mistake and sits with them in their grief as they struggle to pick up the pieces of their lives.
Just kidding! He lies to them, repeatedly, elaborately, expansively for months, constructing an entire false friendship with Connor that never happened, and ingratiating himself into the wealthy nuclear family he never had, in large part because he wants to get into Zoe’s pants! THIS IS THE PROTAGONIST OF THE STORY. Oh, and it’s a musical so there is a lot of singing and crying and singing WHILE crying and sometimes crying and not singing at all. But the #inspiration, you guys.
Things I liked:
Pretty much everything but the story and Ben Platt’s performance. The supporting cast is stacked, and all of them do a great job at elevating material scraped directly out of a diaper worn by someone who just chewed their way through a copy of the DSM-5.
A couple of the songs are damn catchy - “Waving Through a Window” and “You Will Be Found” are standouts for a reason - and here’s the thing, Platt sings them well. But as you’ll discover, there’s a lot more to a movie musical than just singing your part.
Stephen Chbosky, the man behind every deep thought I and a lot of people in my generation had in 2006 after he wrote The Perks of Being a Wallflower, is a pretty good director. I particularly enjoyed the fanvid-type cuts in “Waving Through a Window” in conjunction with the lyrics, and his use of interstitial shots to flashbacks (and sometimes flashforwards!) is a neat little bit of shorthand that I thought was used sparingly enough to be effective.
Amy Fucking Adams. She’s holding on so hard, so desperately to the idea of who her son could have been, rather than the reality of who he was, and she is full of such deep pain that is masked by an almost endless supply of patience with Evan and relentless positivity. All this made me want was Enchanted 2 even worse than I already did.
Super into everything Zoe wears - the costuming department did a great job, and now all I want to do is live in mom jeans and baggy sweaters.
Did I Cry? I teared up a couple of times because I’m not a completely heartless bastard and when Amy Adams offered Evan Connor’s college money, my heart broke for the lie Evan had thrust upon her, and Julianne Moore’s song got me good, because she’s just a single mom to Evan who is doing her goddamn best.
Things I hated more than the time I dropped a frozen gallon container of fruit cocktail on my pinkie toe in my parents’ garage and it turned black and I thought it was gonna fall off:
Ben Platt is 28 years old. He originated the role of Evan Hansen on Broadway, so in many respects it makes sense that he plays the role in the movie, except for the one kinda sorta important thing where he looks like a wizened old crone standing amongst a sea of children doing his best twitching, cringing Hunchback of Notre Dame impression. If you want someone to convincingly play 20 years their junior, hire Paul Rudd. Otherwise, please don’t ask me to believe that this supposed 18-year-old has crow’s feet.
And that twitching nervous energy is a huge part of the black hole at the center of this film - he’s playing to the cheap seats and walking through the halls of his high school like a wet chihuahua. It’s an excruciating acting choice to watch - he doesn’t just have anxiety, he is on the verge of a nervous breakdown seemingly every second of every day. Like honestly, where is only-mentioned-never-seen Dr. Sherman, because this young man’s meds are NOT WORKING DR. SHERMAN.
There’s such a lack of self-awareness on behalf of the writing, directing, and performance by Platt. There’s one song, “Sincerely, Me,” that offers the only glimpse of commentary about what Evan is doing, by pointing out the malicious ridiculousness of him writing a series of fake emails as proof of his and Connor’s friendship.
Also what high schoolers email this much?? I know this was written in probably 2014 or so, but has a bitch never heard of a text? Even a DM? This whole plot is constructed around the premise that high schoolers are just constantly, constantly emailing each other.
Everything - and I mean EV-ER-Y-THING - about Evan’s relationship with Zoe is so creepy and disturbing that with a soundtrack change, this could easily be a horror movie. He attempts to get her to like him by describing to her all the things her brother noticed about her - oh wait, I’m sorry, all the things HE noticed about her while he was skulking in the shadows following her around for years, watching every move she made, and it ends with him singing repeatedly “I LOVE YOU” because following a girl around and never having a conversation with her or knowing her at all is love, right? This was clearly written by the same people who chose “Every Breath You Take” as their wedding song because Sting is hot and they never actually listened to the damn words.
And it gets about 10 billion times worse when Zoe goes to Evan’s house alone, takes him up to his room, and sings “I don’t need reasons to want you” and that was the moment I was that person I hate in a movie theater and I pulled out my phone to Google who wrote the music and lyrics to the musical (we were in the back row of the theater no one was behind me THIS WAS AN OUTRAGE EMERGENCY) and of motherfucking course it was written by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, 2 men who heard about meeting an actual human woman from a friend one time but otherwise are unfamiliar with the concept.
Lastly, enormous serial killer vibes from Evan sending unlabeled flash drives anonymously through the mail with no note in an attempt to right his wrongs. That’s not catharsis, that’s how the next installment in the Saw franchise starts, with Evan in a Billy the clown doll mask showing up on the screen and asking if you want to play a fucking game.
Also, I know it’s not possible for the narrative to justify this in a way that could be satisfying based on Evan’s actions, but what is with this thing where single working-class mom Julianne Moore is turning down rich people’s money for Evan to go to college? Like, obviously we can’t have that happen in the movie but in real life, fuck your pride! Take those rich people’s money!
I also know how movies work but nothing annoys me more than a giant group of high schoolers all getting beeps and boops to indicate text notifications all at the same time because I don’t know a single person under the age of 55 who keeps their ringer on. That shit is on vibrate AT MOST, and I feel like that’s a millennial thing.
The emotional climax of the film is obviously Evan’s WAY TOO LATE confession, but the idea that it’s prompted by Connor’s family suddenly getting a lot of internet hate is, frankly, laughable. If Sandy Hook taught me one thing, it is that no tragedy is immune from trolls who live only to cause other people devastating emotional pain on the internet. That shit starts day 1. Apparently no one involved in this production has ever been on Twitter?
Also it feels like there should have been a dog somewhere in this movie and there was no dog, so points off for that too.
Perhaps Dear Evan Hansen isn’t nearly as deep as it aspires to be. Perhaps it’s a morality play, a simplistic message of “Don’t lie, kids, lying is bad!” Major studio movies wrap themselves up with a nice bow at the end so everyone can feel good about themselves and leave with a happy ending, but the moronic cruelty on display here makes that feat feel impossible. We’re left with Evan in an orchard, reading Connor’s favorite books and staring into the big blue sky with all the self-actualization he’s earned now as a lil treat. And if Evan Hansen looked like an actual 18-year-old, it would be a lot easier to extend more empathy to him and his not-fully-developed prefrontal cortex, but it’s a little harder with this fully-grown, weathered man who was old enough to remember seeing Liar Liar in theaters.
Dear Evan Hansen,
Get some actual help and a haircut and maybe you can grow up enough to have an actual healthy interaction with any other living person, ever.
Sincerely,
Me
