Sims In Bloom: Generation 2 Pt. 126 (Building a Treehouse in Isle of Volpe Park)

cw: someone freezes to death because they went swimming and I couldn't forgot to stop it, and then it glitched.

Conrad and Ash arrived in Henford-on-Bagley on the first day of spring. Still snowy as usual on the coast, temperate Henford was expecting clear skies for most of the weekend.

They were lucky the forecast didn't call for rain, as they'd planned this building project so far in advance. But the weather was perfect to camp out while building River's community treehouse in Isle of Volpe Park!

They met River and Michael in the national park with their tent, joined by Everett Pancakes and his sons, Greyson and Jett, as well as Greyson and Jett's cousin, Jaden Scott.

Jaden's dad, Jamar, was Henford's best doctor (he delivered Ash while still a resident!), and though he was on call and couldn't join them in building, Jaden was happy to spend the weekend camping with his cousins. "My aunt Ayesha is almost done school and she plays her music too loud," complained Jaden. "I can't wait until she moves to San Myshuno after university."

Everett glanced at River's hard hat. "Should we all have one of those?"

River shook his head. "We shouldn't need them at all. I just thought I should wear one as the project manager."

Conrad laughed. "You look a little ridiculous."

"You're not even wearing shoes, bro."

(I only realized this halfway through building the treehouse. I also made River wear his work uniform because it's great. 😂)

Despite his concerns over headwear, Everett was called into work to deal with a leaky pipe under the old church, leaving his sons with River, Conrad, and their friends while the adults hammered nails and measured planks to build the treehouse.

The boys watched from the ground, a safe distance away from heavy tools, directing River and Conrad on proper placement of the wood for their enjoyment.

"Make sure the benches aren't too high inside the clubhouse, and make sure the ladder won't shake when we climb up," said Ash. The little genius was itching to pick up a drill to do it himself, but Conrad and his uncle wouldn't let him near the power tools.

Their teamwork led to them building the treehouse in no time - long before Everett returned from fixing the issue with the ancient pipes. But they still had a whole weekend of camping together, so they added decorations and upgrades, like lights and a slide - everything but a fireman's pole to slide down.

"Mayor Varner thinks too many kids will try to climb up the pole and it'll be a safety hazard," said River. "He's probably not wrong, to be fair, but he wouldn't approve that feature when I showed him the plans."

Conrad worked hard on the upgrades, mostly on his own, while River grilled food for the boys as the sun set. Conrad still hadn't figured out a way to talk to Ash about Ben and his dog, so focusing on the upgrades was a welcome distraction. He planned to talk to him about it before the end of the weekend, but as ever, he was happier not to think about it.

They enjoyed camp stew as the boys chatted and played chess, before biological half-brothers Ash and Jett climbed up the new community treehouse to play pirates together.

The crew wasn't too worried about showers, but the only bathrooms were a trek across the river, and the dads escorted the boys past Lord Volpe's castle ruins to the public toilets after dark.

River and Conrad both had to go themselves, so after the town priest's usual late-night swim, they left Everett at the campsite near the treehouse while they both took Everett's son Jett to the bathrooms.

They'd almost made it to the small footbridge at the base of the ruins when they heard an ominous sound.

Turning around, Conrad spotted a familiar friend, but Grim wasn't there to chat. A woman, frozen stiff near the riverbank, was his for the taking.

Jett gasped. "What's happening?"

"I think that's Elsa Bjerg-Watson," River said, though it was hard to tell under all the ice that encased their blue skin.

"That's our friend Jada's mom!" said Jett with a sullen frown. "She bakes the best cupcakes for school bake sales."

Conrad wanted to plead on behalf of this woman with a young daughter, but something was wrong. Grim was impenetrable. His hollow faced looked right through them as a small crowd of parkgoers started to gather.

Some kind of force (glitch and/or lag) seemed to stand in his way, and Conrad couldn't save her. ->

NOTE: I blamed Mayor Varner, but really the pole was the only upgrade I couldn't finish in two sim days of Conrad basically exhausting himself to the bone because oops, he was the only sim with high enough handiness skill to do any of the upgrades at all. I didn't know! I've never built a treehouse before because they're so big. I didn't even need the upgrades because they're not necessary for Ash's child aspiration (the reason for this arc because a treehouse wouldn't fit on their home lot), I just wanted them.

NOTE 2: I temporarily turned Isle of Volpe National Park into a residential lot (just to keep all 8 sims under my control and prevent anyone from randomly going home). Set up tents for sleeping, tucked away a shower, but still (regrettably), relied on the public toilets too far away, which distracted me when Elsa needed someone to run up and ask to see her winter clothes before she froze to death.

This is probably also my fault because I let Everett go for a late-night swim and he almost froze (but I caught it). I love swimming in natural bodies of water in The Sims, but maybe it autonomously drew her into the River Bagley for a swim, too. Then Grim was lagging to the point I gave up waiting for the 'plead' option to come up because people were peeing themselves. Literally.

It's not even the last death my game decided to serve up this same weekend, but more on that in the next installment on Friday...

Audrey stood patiently by Seraphina's locker after weaving through the ever-busy hallway crowd. Timing was crucial, and she hoped not to miss her chance. Thankfully, her patience paid off as Seraphina appeared moments later, her face lighting up with a hint of surprise at the sight of Audrey waiting.

"Hey," Audrey greeted with her usual cheerfulness. "I just wanted to ask if you’d be interested in joining the cheer squad."Seraphina blinked, caught off guard. Cheer squad? It wasn’t something she had ever seriously considered. Audrey quickly pulled a flyer from her bag, the soft crinkle of paper breaking through the noise of the hallway. As Seraphina scanned the flyer, her eyes caught on the design—clean lines, bold colors, and a flair for precision she recognized immediately. Her brother had spent late nights working on a project recently, but she hadn’t realized it was this. The realization brought a strange mix of pride and apprehension.

"Oh, I don’t know," she said, her voice hesitant. Joining the cheer squad meant stepping into the spotlight, a position Seraphina had always felt uncertain about. The attention, the pressure, and all those eyes—she wasn’t sure if she could handle it. A flicker of envy crept in as she thought of her brother’s natural confidence, the way he could navigate attention so effortlessly.

Sensing Seraphina’s hesitation, Audrey gently clasped her hands, her expression softening into one of encouragement. "Take some time to think about it, okay? But if it makes you feel any better," Audrey said with a warm smile, "I think you’d do great!"

Seraphina nodded slowly, managing a small, "Okay, I will." As Audrey walked away, a spring was in her step, and as she prepared to post the freshly designed flyers, Seraphina lingered by her locker. She stared at the flyer in her hands, her thoughts swirling. A part of her was drawn to the idea—Audrey’s kindness and confidence were infectious. But the other part of her felt the weight of uncertainty, unsure if she could really take that leap. For now, Seraphina stayed torn, the decision sitting heavy in her mind.

Color Theory Legacy Challenge

Do you like color? Do you like legacy challenges that switch things up each generation? Do you like family cozy gameplay AND spicy dramatic gameplay?

Well, then this is the legacy challenge for you! Inspired by classic legacy challenges like the Not So Berry Challenge by @lilsimsie and @alwaysimming and Such Colorful Lives by @thepanplumbob, this legacy challenge is a ten generation legacy challenge where each generation's goals and personality are based on the color theory of their assigned color!

General Rules: 1. Normal Lifespan recommended 2. Each Heir must represent the color of their generation BUT Berry sims are not required (Though feel free to use them if you want!) 3. Keep money cheats to a minimum! 4. Each heir must complete their required Careers and Aspirations unless specifically stated otherwise 5. The problem is you just can't seem to decide which sim owns your heart! You have a couple lovers as a teen before finally settling down with your soulmate and raising a family together.

But none of those lovers are good enough for you, so you hop from one to the next, leaving a trail of broken hearts (and maybe one or two affair babies). For all your romantic exploits, your true love is the stage. You want to see your name up in lights!

Traits: Hot-Headed, Mean, Romantic

Aspiration: Villainous Valentine

Career: Actor

Generation Four: Brown - The Steadfast Farmer Brown is the color of strength and reliability. You’ve never gotten on too well with your parents. Neither of them were ever really around, so as the oldest, you sort of ended up as your younger siblings’ default parent. Of course, your grandparents did what they could to help, but they had their own lives. So, when you could, you found solace in animals. Animals aren’t like people, they don’t hurt you on purpose.  When you’re finally old enough, you take your younger siblings and ditch your parents, moving to the countryside to finally have some peace. There, you build up a farm, with livestock and horses, and, of course, a family that actually loves each other.

Traits: Animal Enthusiast, Rancher, Loyal

Aspiration: Country Caretaker

Career: None, make money off your crops, livestock, and nectar

Other Requirements:

MUST be the eldest child of the Red generation

Generation Five: Orange - The Childish Adventurer Orange symbolizes adventure and youthful passion. Okay, so you’re a bit of an oddball. Who cares? You delight in being unabashedly yourself! Your family was close knit, not just your parents and siblings, but your pets, cousins, and aunts and uncles as well, and they never tried to dull your sparkle. But the countryside, for all of its bucolic beauty, just doesn’t satisfy your love of adventure, so shortly after your adult birthday, you kiss your family goodbye and set off to see the world.

Aspiration: Extreme Sports Enthusiast

So, you find your outlets in tech and video games instead. The people in those circles don’t seem to care as much about your awkwardness.  And there, among zeros and ones and other geeks, you finally blossom, transforming into a sunny, bright person. You’ll never be especially social, but your small circle is enough for you.

Traits: Paranoid, Socially Awkward, Cheerful

While your parents and sibling all had a similar passion for technology, yours is a bit more nature focused. In fact, you're a bit of a hippie. There's no shame in that!  As soon as you're old enough, you leave the smog and traffic of the city behind and move to Evergreen Harbor, hoping to live a greener life, only to come face to face with a community in sore need of a clean up.  You've never been one to back down from a challenge so you roll up your sleeves and get to work. Unfortunately, you spend so much time on your projects that you don't have time for love… until one day you notice everyone else seems to have gotten married and had kids, leaving you behind! Will you ever find the love you desire before it's too late?

Generation Eight: Blue - The Ocean-Loving Artist Blue symbolizes inspiration and creativity. You’ve always been a bit of a gloomy sim. Maybe that’s because Evergreen Harbor doesn’t have much scope for the imagination. It’s nice that the town is all cleaned up thanks to your parent, but you often find yourself at the docks, staring at the sea. Here, it’s gray and green and not much else. While you find the colors you love in the gems you collect and shape, you find yourself wishing you could see those colors in your beloved ocean. So, as soon as you’re able, you make your way to Sulani. But once there, you discover that the islands are in a sorry state. You’ve learned a thing or two about helping the environment from your parents, so you roll up your sleeves and get to work.

Traits: Creative, Gloomy, Child of the Ocean

Aspiration: Painter Extraordinaire

Career: Conservationist

You wouldn’t call yourself a mad scientist, in fact, you’re very sane. It’s not your fault people don’t appreciate your genius!

Traits: Genius, Self Absorbed, Ambitious

Career: Scientist

Aspiration: Mansion Baron

And they would be right. About you, at least. Maybe that comes from having Evil Scientists as parents. Who knows. Whatever it is, you’ve always had a fascination with whatever comes after life. And you’ve always felt Death hovering at your side but maybe he’s not the enemy you thought he was…

Career: Reaper

Sims In Bloom: Generation 2 Pt. 127 (In Brindleton Bay Without the Boys)

cw: pet death (I warned of a second death after Elsa this weekend and there are so many pets...)

The dawn of spring didn't mean much in Brindleton Bay. With snow slow to melt and coats still a necessity, the girls of 3 Sable Square were happy to spend the day inside while Ash and Conrad built a treehouse in the cool spring sunshine an hour away.

Heather was teaching Lavender to say please and thank you in the living room, and Hazel finished doing some online research.

"Suri's coming to Brindleton Bay for a date tonight," she said to Heather. "I want you to like her."

"Why wouldn't I like her?"

"You haven't even taken down the picture of me and Nic's wedding day from your living room wall, sis. And you got weird when I told you I was spending Love Day with Suri."

"I didn't get weird," she protested. "I'm just...I was contacted by the producer of Dating Deanna and they want to bring the contestants here for an event at Shelly's Animal Haven. Shelly's asked me to volunteer onsite to make sure the pets are looked after during filming, and the producer wants me, Conrad, and Gord to judge the contestants."

"Won't that be weird with Nicola there?"

"They said she wouldn't be there that day but I haven't said yes yet. I wanted to talk to you first, but I didn't know how to bring it up. I would normally be too nervous to say yes to something like this even with the exposure, but I love helping Shelly's whenever I can..."

Hazel chuckled. "And this is hosted by Devin Villareal?"

"You know I love her movies! But I'll say no if you want me to."

Hazel offered her sister a friendship bracelet fist bump. "I don't want you to say no to that kind of exposure for Buttercups and your clinic."

"You can say no, you know. I'd rather support you."

"You do support me. You haven't even asked me to pay rent yet. I want you to do the show, but things with Suri and I are getting more serious, and it really matters to me that you like her."

"Hazel, if you like her, I'll like her. I'm positive."

She hugged her little sister in support, and Lavender interrupted their sweet moment.

"Auntie Hay-Hay read with Lava?" she wondered, dragging her aunt to the books on the coffee table to read while they waited for Suri.

Heather still felt a little sad about the way Hazel handled her divorce, but she wanted to like Suri for her sister's sake and she busied herself baking brownies to prep for her arrival.

Why she was baking treats for a girl who wanted to be a baker, she wasn't sure. But she did like brownies. Maybe Heather just wanted sweets.

The baking was done by the time Suri arrived, and the young chef noticed as soon as she walked in the door. "Something smells amazing! Brownies?"

"My sister bakes when she's stuck inside," Hazel said, and Heather put her plate down on the coffee table in protest.

"I wanted chocolate!" she argued, greeting Hazel's girlfriend with a friendly smile. "Hi Suri, it's great to finally meet you."

"Same. Hazel talks so much about her family, it feels like I know you already!"

She sat next to Heather on the sofa while Hazel and Lavender danced to the music coming from the Grimophone they still hadn't returned to Bella Goth. But Bella didn't need it now that she and Grim were officially a couple, and with Lavender into sounds, they'd turn it on for her as often as quiet-loving Heather could stand it.

"I'm looking forward to getting to know more about you. With a teacher like your grandmother, Clara, I'm sure you can bake far better brownies than mine!"

"Maybe, but as long as brownies are gooey in the middle and strong on the outside, they're always perfect. Anything less than that, they're just cake or chocolate cookies."

"Are you planning to take over your grandmother's pastry shop in Henford?"

Hazel cleared her throat from the makeshift dance floor across the coffee table. "Well, Alex Goth was saying now that George Brindleton's..." She mouthed the word 'dead' to keep Lavender unaware. "The owners of the Salty Paw are looking to sell."

Heather turned to Suri with surprise. "You want to run a dive bar?"

"Not at all! I mean, I want to keep the liquor license, but I'd love to turn it into a cafe during the day, sell my pastries there. And maybe a slightly classier bar at night..."

"So you see yourself in Brindleton Bay long term with Hazel?"

She blushed, nodding. "We're both still young and this is still new. I know we didn't start under great circumstances but we're taking this slow, and I think we're both happy."

(Kinda sorta. He's an active sim so he doesn't spawn at the in-game police station lot when Conrad goes to work.)

Suri laughed. "They're not on the same shifts. Camden's still young, working night patrol down at the docks, mostly. But he says everyone at the station loves Lieutenant Gordon."

Lavender stopped dancing and climbed the sofa, greeting the new stranger with a curious smile. "Who you? I Lavader."

"Hi Lavender, I'm Suri. I'm your Auntie Hay-Hay's girlfriend."

Lavender gasped excitedly. "You like books, too? Auntie Hay-Hay read me lots!"

Suri smiled. "I love books. My favourite are cookbooks!"

Heather was relieved to meet Suri and find her so friendly. She wanted the best for her sister, and Suri at least was kind - if a little pretentious about baked goods and dive bars. They enjoyed chatting through the chilly afternoon until the girls left for their date.

But before she could settle in for a quiet evening with her daughter, Heather's phone rang. "Cass, hi! How's it going?"

Heather's sister-in-law was quiet, sniffling, and she took a deep breath. "It's Bernadette. Can you meet me at your clinic in an hour?" ->

NOTE: Heather did get a negative first impression of Suri but they also became friends, so Heather seems determined not to let her first impression dictate the relationship and potentially cause a rift with her sister. But she(/I) should probably take that old wedding pic down!

NOTE 2: Rest In Peace to Elsa and Bernadette! This episode took place technically before Elsa's death (but started after the camping trip began, hence its placement), so Suri also has no idea yet that she's lost her aunt. But they were close, and Suri won't be unaffected. We know Hazel wasn't great at handling Nic's grief before they split, so hopefully she's matured!

Despite how the episode ends, I won't be showing any more of good old Bernie, a Shar Pei/Field Spaniel mix the Nesbitts adopted when Heather was 17, since all I did was get the pop-up that she passed. Some scenes are better left as rabbit holes/off camera, but may their spirits live on through those who loved them. 🙏

I did later spot Bernadette as a ghost near the pet cemetery on Deadgrass Isle (no matter what world pets die in, they will spawn here as ghosts!). And I forced Elsa's ghost to show up because I downloaded @ravasheencc's It's All Grave-y mod to make sure she had a tombstone (since she died near the ruins and then glitched, there was no urn).
