Sims In Bloom: Generation 2 Pt. 149 (A New Pet - And a New Landgraab Problem?)

Captain Whitaker made himself right at home at the Gordon house on Sable Square. When Lavender returned from daycare on his first day as a reanimated dog, the Captain was thrilled to meet the energetic toddler who loved pets.

He also celebrated discovery of the chicken coop in the backyard, and he loved to chase the cats. It had been a while since Heather and Conrad needed to train bad habits out of a new pet, but they were happy to do it, because Captain Whitaker fit their family like a glove.

Heather's sister, Hazel, dropped by for breakfast one morning, on her way to help Alexander Goth put together his application to run for mayor.

"It's a long process and the town hasn't had an election in close to forty years, but Alex has a lot of really great ideas to make the Bay even better," Hazel said. "I really believe in him, and he needs more help with his campaign now that he's doing midnight feedings with baby Carina."

At the mention of Alex and Lydia Goth's second child, newborn Carina, Heather rubbed her belly as she felt her own baby kick. "I'd love to see this town running smoothly with a real mayor at the helm. The water shut-offs we've had to deal with lately make it so much harder to get the kids bathed, and the dogs, let alone us!"

"I hate to sound like Dad, but get a dew catcher. It rains enough on the coast you could collect enough water to last for weeks!"

"What's a dew catcher?" wondered Lavender.

"It stores water for when there's drought or the pipes freeze in winter. It's kind of like recycling the rain," Hazel explained, and Lavender nodded along thoughtfully.

"What's recyclig?"

"It's when you take something and use it again for something else, rather than getting something new, because it's better for the environment. Like new toys. If you bought a used toy, it would be recycled, as opposed to a new toy from a store."

"Used toys are better for the envi-erment?"

Hazel nodded. "Yeah, because new production uses a carbon footprint, and you want that carbon footprint to be as small as possible to help the planet."

Heather glanced pleadingly at Hazel, launching into one of her public policy talks with a four-year-old. "Why don't you get your Aunt Hazel to read you a story before she goes to work?"

Lavender smiled, dragging Hazel to the living room and picking out a book. "Can you do the voices again, too?"

"Of course, Lava. I can't read you a story without doing the voices!"

"No you can't!"

Lavender wasn't the only one in the household interested in books. Ash had picked up as many books on time travel from the library as he could, and he'd barely put them down since. If he was supposed to invent time travel, he had to understand it first.

Heather and Conrad were wary of what he was learning, but they'd encouraged Felix and Lilith to pursue it before they knew what Marco had said. Ash promised to leave the actual time travel to the adults, so they allowed him to study books like Theoretical Electronics and A History of Time Travel to offer assistance to Felix and Lilith - but only if they needed it.

Conrad accompanied him to the local library to return a few books he'd finished and check out a few more, bringing the dogs to run around. They sat in bright inflatable chairs that seemed out of place in the old wooden building. But the local historian and librarian, Gunther Lynx-Munch, said they'd been dropped off by an anonymous donor and he didn't want them to go to waste.

As he thumbed through the books on the shelves, Conrad turned to his stepson. "Are you really interested in all this time travel stuff?"

Ash shrugged. "Felix and Lilith say Emit's nice. What if changing the future changes him, too? I don't want to change the future too much, but I don't want to be feared. If I do help Felix and Lilith, I don't mind people not knowing I did it."

That night, Heather prepped fruit for Ash's school lunch while Conrad was bent over the sink to repair the plumbing. "Malcolm called again," she groused. "He's so interested in Ash's counseling sessions all of a sudden."

"I think this time travel and seeing ghosts stuff freaks Malcolm out a bit."

"He doesn't even think it's real!" She closed the fridge door with a heavy thud to put away the sliced fruit. "I think he's plotting something. With his mother."

Conrad finished with the plumbing and dried his hands, wrapping his arms around her and cradling her stomach. "Like what?"

"He's acting like I can't take care of our son, as if he wasn't flirting with Miko instead of watching Ash when he was taken. He actually said 'It can't be easy to move around that small house with all those animals.' They have a dog!"

"Don't get upset," he pleaded gently. "Has Malcolm ever been worth it?"

She forced herself to breathe, letting herself fall into his embrace. "I love you. I just worry about Ash all the time lately."

"I love you, too. Let's get some sleep; the baby needs it. We can worry about everything again in the morning."

Despite her fear and worry, the days were busy and long. Pregnant Heather was easily fatigued, and she soon fell asleep in Conrad's arms. ->

Sims In Bloom: Generation 2 Pt. 150 (Inventing - or Reinventing? - Time Travel)

To research the possibilities of time travel, Felix Psyded, Esquire, and his girlfriend, Lilith Pleasant, had spent months at Laurel Library in Britechester. Emit's knowledge had proven helpful, but his device was too advanced for modern times and required materials yet to be discovered. They had a lot to learn, and often studied late into the evening.

These two - an attorney and a podcaster - knew next to nothing about programming or biometric sciences. But Lilith, especially, was determined to make a device to chase Emit's time thief, and Felix would stay by her side in any decade.

"I checked out a copy of A History of Time Travel like Ash suggested," she said eagerly. Felix quickly flipped her laptop to The Sims Archives, Volume 2, disguising the webpage he'd really been reading. "Are you enjoying the game? I didn't realize how much I missed playing it!"

He nodded absentmindedly, and Lilith noticed. She was about to raise the question when her twin sister, Angela, emerged from behind the bookshelves with a programming guide. "Geez, this stuff is difficult," she complained. "How are you planning to learn all this to make a time travel device?"

"Ash was taken with a faulty remote," explained Lilith. "He said we need to program it correctly or we might end up lost in time, but he's been a huge help on some things we just can't wrap our heads around."

"It's pretty crazy to let a nine-year-old help you build a device to jump through time. And how did he invent it already, because Emit's here, but not invent it yet at the same time?"

Lilith scowled at her twin. They'd been polar opposites since high school, and Lilith always felt a sense of moral superiority oozing from her earthy pastel pores. "Why are you even here, Angela? We didn't ask you for help."

"Excuse me for being interested!"

A librarian shushed them from somewhere beyond the tall rows of mahogany bookshelves, and Lilith leaned in to whisper. "You're not interested in the device, you're interested in Emit."

Angela caught herself before she let out a yowl, aghast at the suggestion. "A blue-haired time traveler? Please! Do I look desperate?"

Felix poked his head in gently, having built up a good relationship with Lilith's family. "No, but you look infatuated every time he's on TV. I don't blame you, really. He's polite, and he could well be handsome behind those sunglasses. He's mysterious; it's alluring!"

"Lil, if you're not careful, you're going to lose your boyfriend to Emit Relevart."

Lilith rolled her eyes and changed the subject as Angela huffed. "Ash thinks we need to look for something called a shard of time, which he first read about in Theoretical Electronics. He reads so fast, it's amazing! He says the shards are hard to spot, but if you look at something long enough, relax your mind, you'll see slight discoloration in an object. Once you see it, you can pick it up with your fingers. Ash said he found one on the toilet in his bathroom at home."

(This is Ash pondering time travel on the toilet for the quest points. I know it doesn't look like it but some of the event reward animations are sus or my game is broken. The actual books - Theoretical Electronics and A History of Time Travel - never appeared in Lilith's hands. That's why she's reading a violin skill book, which she picked herself when she was done reading the invisible books.)

"So you're going to go stare at toilets for a while?"

"Refrigerators, too," said Felix.

"This is so weird, you guys. Are you really serious about this?"

"After Felix is done work tomorrow, we're going back to Willow Creek to talk to Emit some more." Angela tried to stuff her hopeful expression and Lilith let out an exaggerated sigh. "Did you want to come with us?"

"Well...if you think I'd be helpful I'd be happy to-"

"Ange..." Lilith pursed her lips. She loved her sister, but she was always like this. "I said you could come and meet Emit. Don't act like it's a favour to me."

They made it to Willow Creek Park the next evening, where they found Emit still wandering the paths. He smiled and waved when he spotted the girls waiting for Felix near the public restroom. "Lilith Pleasant! I hoped you'd be back. Most of the gawkers have been unserious, and they don't come around as much now that the news cycle's moved on a little."

"We wouldn't know where to begin, but we've been getting help from someone...Does the name Ash Landgraab mean anything to you?"

After everything they'd learned about Ash's visit from the ghost of Marco, Lilith posed her question carefully. When Emit frowned, shaking his head, her shoulders dropped in relief. "Everyone's heard of the Landgraabs, but Ash Landgraab doesn't really ring a bell. Why?"

The sisters looked at each other. "When you're from, who invented time travel?"

Emit laughed as Felix joined them. "That's one of life's great mysteries! It's thought whoever invented it wanted - or needed - to be protected, so their identity was kept secret. When I was at the academy, there were rumours the inventor was a kid and that's why their name was never recorded, but some say people did know, and the inventor was well known once upon a time, but the truth was lost to history."

Felix chuckled. "Perhaps the truth was hidden by another time thief."

Lilith and Angela laughed with him, but Emit's face held a stern expression. "Time thieves aren't that funny. They could erase history as we know it if they try hard enough. Some days, my wristboard pings so often, each time they move to a new time, I can't possibly chase them alone. We're lucky the one we're dealing with is just dropping household furnishings all over the place. So far." He dropped his voice in an ominous tone. "But even that could break the strings holding time in place."

"Wow, you know so much!" Angela gushed at the blue-haired man, and he looked back to Lilith with a curious expression.

"Is this your clone?"

Lilith laughed, but Angela laughed louder. "This is my twin sister, Angela."

"It's nice to meet you, Angela."

They shared a sweet smile, and Lilith glanced knowingly at Felix. "We also wanted to ask you about shards of time," she said. "Where are the best places to look for them?"

Emit looked back to Lilith as though he'd forgotten she was there. "Shards? Oh shards! Sorry, our tech hasn't had to use shards for a long time. Shiny surfaces are best, but I suppose they could be anywhere, really, if you look long enough."

"That's what Ash said."

"This Ash sounds fascinating. I'd like to meet him, or his guardians, since you mentioned last time he's a child, didn't you? You're...you're not saying he's the one who invented time travel..."

"He hasn't yet," said Angela. "He's almost ten, but these two would probably be hopeless without him. He's the one who discovered the shards."

"A child Landgraab invents time travel? That is a headline!"

"His parents - at least his mother and his stepfather - don't want people hounding him the rest of his life."

"I don't blame them. It's important to protect children - even brilliant ones."

"Should you meet him some day, I think you'd be quite impressed by him," said Felix. "He's nothing like the rest of the Landgraabs."

Emit laughed. "What do you mean? The Landgraabs are incredible. They spent six billion simoleons to end global hunger and built the ship that stopped the asteroid. A Landgraab is president of Simlandia right now. Well, right where I came from."

Felix shared looks of surprise with Lilith and Angela. "Maybe Marco's stunt changed more than we thought," he mused.

Felix and Lilith paid attention to each other while Angela made small talk with Emit. But Emit seemed uninterested in her flirty advances, which he returned with friendly nods and turned glances.

Before they left him in the early hours of the morning, Felix gave him a burner phone so they could reach out if they had more questions. Emit took the untraceable phone willingly, glancing quickly at Angela before sending them home with polite goodbyes.

When they got back to the old three-story home they shared with Angela and her parents in Gibbs Hill, Lilith quickly went to bed. But Felix was mulling something over in his mind.

He tried reading, but his mind moved too fast to take in the paragraphs. When dawn finally broke and he left for work the next morning, he called his favourite grumpy police captain on the way.

"Hey. I know it's early, but I was wondering if you had a few minutes. I've got a problem I need to talk about..." ->

Last shot is of Felix is his work attire and not on the phone with Conrad because I liked it. He is not without swagger!

NOTE: If you've played through the event, you know the story is diverging a bit from the strict tasks since Emit isn't the sole source of information for Lilix here. Also, Angela had that instant attraction to Emit and I want to see if I can see that through. Even though Emit is being very professional-adjacent about it, he accepted some of her flirts, but not all, so I gave it a rest before he got mad. But once again, I'm making something much bigger than it is for the sake of plot.

Blast from the Past – Part 2

We return! To another week of Blast from the Past? Will Cameron begin to find the truth to mysterious time travel? Lets find out…

Oooo, glad I got a Genius sim on the case then! Right, next goals are to read the History of Time Travel at the library. (We have that book!?) And then study a historical display at a museum. We’re back from work and have plenty of energy. To the library!

...so evidently, by someone aiming to travel through time, time became this material object. And that it’s speculated that while books, movies, (heh, tv shows made from Sims 3) and video games being windows into the past, others believe they are a form of time travel. Hmm. You do know that the Sims 4 is considered an alternative timeline from the original Sims and the Sims 2 and 3. Wonder if that’s going to be touched in on…

Anyway we need some fun and so let’s see what fun thing Cameron comes up with an- -gasp- he’s going for the computer to play a game. Lo and behold, the Sims Archives volume 2 is available! Let’s see…

Mysterious figure spotted! And he has a strange crystal of some sort. All purple-y and broken and a very familiar diamond shape… weird! Anyway, fun gained. To a museum!

I typically count the Van Haunt estate as museum-lite but I don’t think that’ll work for Cameron. So we’re off on a trip to Brindleton Bay!

...oh dear. It’s not clearing off with this uh, display case with a minaturized version of this island in the center. Uhhh, let’s try some art. And if not! PANIC! ...though I think I remember studying historical displays being a Research and Debate skill? Looking through the skills and its...ah! Level 2 Research & Debate! Sh-shouldn’t we have that? Well that’s not good!

Browsing the forums game me some additional ideas and since Cameron needs to eat and sleep at this point, might as well head home.

Ah! Izzy’s home and wants to play chess. The chess table is in Cameron’s room. The room he’s sleeping in. The dad she’s currently feeling hurt by. Leeeets go to the cool chess topiary area in the middle of town! That’s a fun place to do chess with. And get to know chess teammate Molly while at it. Oh hey, she’s a fellow genius! Let’s strike up a friendship!

Right, let’s see. Past 8PM, past library time and she’s sleepy so let’s head home and do homework before turning in.

Now! Let’s see if heading over to Willow Creek or Oasis Spring’s museum fixes the issue for Cameron not being able to progress in the quest! Ahh, the jazz art of Willow Creek. Annnd it does. Huh. Weird. Would make sense that these were designed by base game lots first and foremost but weird.

Next is to ask an elderly sim about the shard! They know things! They’ve been around awhile! Let’s see… we have our late night barkeep but we also have someone Cameron’s been friends with on his list for awhile now. Miguel Baron. Let’s bring him over to Willow Creek’s lounge.

OH YEAH! That’s why Cameron knows this guy. He’s a nanny! Probably personally looked after Isabelle. Annnd oh man! Evidently there are tales of weird crystals that allow for time travel. Well well now. And we have a name now. Shards of Time. To the computer to research!

...evidently the research is corroborated. Maybe.

When your first sentence is “It’s right there on the internet!” I would have doubts but heeeey, this is fringe science and also this is the Sims. This family literally has a space ship ontop of their roof.

Shards found! Now it’s time to report to Emit. He may be tired but I think I can eek out this one last goal and invite him over.

...annnd Emit is surprised we can see them and then that means...we can make our own time machine! WOW. This family just holds allll the cool tech!

...what a side-job to pick up Emit.

Forgotten Hollow: The Conroy household recently moved in.

Krista and Vaea have become friends.

Alonzo and Cassie have become friends.

...yeah I gotta highlight this centrepiece of this collectable series. Because this is a Sims 2 reference to Bella somehow disappearing in a weird way from her family.

Anyway, it’s time to gain some logic and time for something to break so we can repair it. ...that’ll take a bit. WAIT. He has the sabatoge ability! Eh, let’s just snooze first.

Right! So! Lara Fletcher needs a new aspiration since I just passively got past the money making one. I’m thinking...she’s suddenly feeling the pressure of her daughter. And wanting her to enjoy the outside with her. So I feel like the best aspiration to combo for that is Successful Lineage. ...aww man. Can’t force a gal to skill build gardening or work out. Man! I guess Izzy is just going to cry in her room to manage her hurt moodlet. And then write in a journal.

Ooo, since Cameron’s asleep, I suppose we can work from home today with Lara. Dabble with Circuit Boards and Design New Computer Hardware. Might as well! Just as the work from home stuff is finished, Cameron is up and at em! And we have a wind generator in need of repair!

Right! Next goals involve finding metals. I am likely going to have to have a wander around Windenburg’s various bits and bobs first to see about collectables. ...and we got one from the rock pile outside our house! Nice! And suspiciously convenient ...went over to a dirt pile and got an electronic component. Veeeeery convenient… Ohp. Cameron has work so off he shall go.

Right! Izzy is up and at ‘em. Mm. Let’s do some yoga before we just head out to the park to hang out. Like all the late-night teens. But first!

...I had a feeling a lot of the names would just roll off my mind. Problem with so many random townies in this file.

...6AM and we’re seeing a kid pop in. DANG IT! No more late-night teens. Ohp! Wait, Noah Kane is here! That’ll do for a hello! She keeps running into the Goofballs! And he’s a party animal as well. ...should really set her up with liking Funny Sims. And you know what? I reference that one post on the Sims forums enough. It’s time to make my own document of Social Compatibility, so I don’t have to keep constantly running online for it.

Right! After that long break of sorting out information, it’s time to go to the library! Izzy’s whim is still related to her aspiration but alas, we have done our homework. It’s time to study! And research! Might as well head to the local library for that! And who’s also there but her father! Reading his own Theoretical Electronics book. (Man I picked such a good Sim for this event) ...having said that, it seems like it’s one of those ones where I have to go to base game, and then such, Willow Creek for this. TO WILLOW CREEK!

Theoretical Electronics read, it’s just the ingredient list for the time travel device. Could have done this first before getting the odds and ends but eh. Also we still need one metal so that’ll be his goal...once he gets more sleep.

...so what the heck to do with Izzy then? I’m thinking...perhaps an arcade visit? But I don’t have any dedicated arcades. Only bowling alleys with arcades in them. But hey, that’ll do. Ah, literally one of the only reasons I pop by Magnolia Promedade is that there is a bowling alley bar there. Anyway, let’s return home and get Izzy to bed. Let Cameron pick up the metal and then...time travel component! Annd created it looks like we’re going to be done this week!

...hey you know what we don’t have as a career track for the Sims? Game dev. We have freelance programming work for games but not actual game development career. Granted, that’s rather unsteady work...anyway, things I think of as I have Lara make a game of her own.

Right, curry made for supper and I nearly had all the family eat at once! (Izzy needed to go to the restroom) Right, back to bed for everyone for it’s time to snooze! ...well expect that the Oracle must go to his dark hackerman deeds.

And with that, another day and a week of this event is finished! Looking forward to whatever time travel will entail. Likely...a secret basement. Mwehehe… anyway! Time for-!
