Let it Snow
Steven Meeks x reader CW: female reader, pining, snow [1.9k words]
The dorm is quiet, and you feel like you’re the only one left in the world as you pace back and forth across the small stretch of carpet between your bed and desk. Your roommate already went home for break, leaving you alone with your restless thoughts. Thoughts that, no matter how hard you try to stifle them, keep coming back to him.
Steven Meeks.
You let out a frustrated sigh, running your fingers through your hair as you glance at the half-wrapped box sitting on your desk. Inside is the winter hat you’ve been working on for weeks. It’s nothing extravagant. Just soft, dark green wool, simple stitching, and a snug fit, but every fiber feels infused with your feelings for him. You’ve pictured giving it to him a dozen times, but every imagined scenario ends with you chickening out, his warm smile twisting into something awkward, or worse, rejection.
You shake your head. He wouldn’t do that. Steven is too sweet for that, too kind. But that thought doesn’t stop the nervous flutter in your stomach whenever you think about handing it to him and saying, “Merry Christmas.” It’s not just a gift, it’s a confession, wrapped in yarn and way too much overthinking.
You sigh again, staring out the frost-covered window of your room. The sky is a thick gray, but something catches your eye. It takes a moment to realize it’s snow. Heavy flakes drifting lazily to the ground, blanketing everything in white.
You lean closer, your breath fogging the glass as you watch. The snow looks so soft and inviting, covering every branch, every rooftop, every pathway in shimmering magic. For a moment, it’s enough to distract you from your nerves. And then an idea sparks in your chest, and it burns so brightly you can’t ignore it.
I have to see him.
It’s a wild, impulsive thought, but it feels right. You pull yourself away from the window, suddenly filled with nervous energy. The snow is perfect, fresh and untouched, and there’s something about the way it falls that makes you think of him with his freckled face lit by the glow of street lamps, his red hair catching the light. You imagine him standing in the middle of the snowfall, laughing softly, and your heart aches.
You grab your coat and boots, dressing quickly for the cold. As you pull on your gloves, you glance back at the desk, where the green hat sits in its little box. For a moment, you hesitate. Should I really bring it?
But something about the snow gives you courage. You grab the box, tucking it under your arm, and head toward the door. Your heart races as you step into the empty night.
His hallway is eerily quiet, and you tread lightly, careful not to let your boots scuff too loudly against the floor. Meeks’ door looms in front of you, a barrier between you and the boy who’s been occupying every corner of your mind. You raise your fist to knock, hesitating for a heartbeat, and then tap softly. The sound barely registers, but the door creaks open almost immediately, as if he’d been waiting.
Steven stands there, his face slightly shadowed by the dim light from the hallway, his warm brown eyes locking onto yours. For a moment, neither of you says anything, both frozen in a strange, awkward bubble of anticipation.
“Did you see it’s snowing?” you finally whisper, your voice softer than you intended.
Steven’s face lights up instantly, and he nods. “Yeah, it’s beautiful, isn’t it?”
You nod back, feeling your heart stutter.
“Do you want to go sneak outside?” you ask, almost daring yourself to speak.
His response is immediate, a quiet but excited, “Of course.” He grabs his coat from the back of his chair, slipping it on quickly, and you suddenly notice something that sends your nerves into overdrive. His head is bare. No hat, no scarf, just his slightly tousled red hair, catching the faint light from the hall.
“Won’t your head get cold?” you ask, trying to sound casual, though your grip on the box in your hand tightens.
Steven shrugs. “I’ll survive,” he says lightly, but the sight of his uncovered head makes your heart thrum louder.
You take a breath, summoning every ounce of courage. “Wait,” you say, holding the box out awkwardly. “I, uh… I made you something. For Christmas. I was going to wait, but…” Your words trail off, your nerves tying them into knots.
His eyes widen in surprise, and he looks down at the box before carefully taking it from your hands. He opens it slowly, as if savoring the moment, and pulls out the green hat. For a second, he just stares at it, his expression unreadable.
“You made this?” he finally asks, his voice tinged with awe.
“Yeah,” you reply, your cheeks burning. “I mean, it’s not perfect or anything, but I thought you could use one, and, uh… green looks good on you.” You bite your lip, feeling like you’re babbling, but he doesn’t seem to notice.
He’s holding the hat delicately, as if it’s something rare and precious. “You spent all this time making something for me?”
“Well, yeah,” you say, a little shyly. “I thought… you deserved something nice.”
For a moment, he doesn’t move, just looks at you with an expression that makes your chest tighten. Then, to your surprise, he lets out a soft laugh. “This is incredible. Really.”
But he doesn’t put it on, just keeps turning it over in his hands. You hesitate, then step closer, your heart hammering in your chest. “Here,” you say, reaching out and taking the hat from him. “Let me.”
Before you can second-guess yourself, you stretch up and plop the hat onto his head, adjusting it slightly until it sits just right. He looks at you with wide eyes, his freckles stark against his pale skin, the green wool making his red hair look even more vibrant.
“How do I look?” he asks, his voice light but tinged with something warmer, something vulnerable.
You force yourself to stay steady, though your cheeks burn hotter. “You look… good. Really good,” you say.
His smile softens, and for a moment, the world narrows to just the two of you. Snow could be falling in the room for all you know, his eyes are that warm and consuming. He’s studying your face, and you feel the same pull, letting your gaze linger on the curve of his lips, the soft dip of his cheek.
The moment stretches until you can’t stand it anymore. You break the tension by grabbing his hand, your gloved fingers wrapping around his. “C’mon,” you say, tugging him toward the door, your voice barely above a whisper.
He follows, his fingers tightening around yours, and for the first time, you don’t feel nervous. Just alive.
The snow blankets everything in a thick, sparkling layer, muffling the world until it feels like you and Meeks are the only two people alive. As soon as you step outside, you let go of his hand, throwing your head back and spinning with your tongue out to catch the flakes. The cold, crisp air fills your lungs, and the snowflakes melt against your skin, but all you can feel is freedom.
Meeks stands a few feet away, watching. You catch him out of the corner of your eye, his red hair poking out from under the green hat you made him, his eyes wide and soft with something unspoken. For a moment, you forget about the snow entirely and just look at him. He looks so warm and out of place in this icy landscape, like he doesn’t belong in the cold but thrives anyway, like the sight of you could keep him warmer than any coat.
“C’mon,” you say, your voice light with laughter, breaking his trance. You grab his hand again and pull him forward into the snow. “You have to enjoy this!”
“I am,” he says, though his voice is quiet. There’s something in it that makes you pause, but when you glance at him, he just gives you that soft, sheepish smile and lets you lead him forward.
The two of you walk through the snow, your boots crunching softly with every step. You find yourself wandering toward the woods, where the snow is untouched and the faint glow from Welton doesn’t reach as much. The trees stand tall and dark against the white, their branches heavy with snow. The silence here feels heavy, like the world is holding its breath just for you.
“It’s so beautiful,” you murmur, looking up at the trees and the snow falling thickly around you.
“Yeah,” Meeks says, but there’s something in his voice that makes you look at him. He’s not looking at the trees or the snow or anything around him. He’s looking at you.
“What?” you ask softly, a small smile playing on your lips.
He opens his mouth, then closes it, like he’s debating something. You tilt your head, teasing, “Are you cold or something? Because you’re staring like…”
“You’re beautiful.”
The words hit you like a snowball, unexpected and stunning. Your breath catches, and you stop walking. He stops too, his face immediately flushing, his freckles standing out starkly against his red cheeks. “I mean…” he stammers, running a hand through his hair. “What I meant was…well, I mean that too, but…”
“Steven,” you interrupt, stepping closer.
“I like you,” he blurts out, the words tumbling over themselves in his haste. “A lot. I have for ages. You probably already know, but I… I just had to say it. And if you don’t feel the same, that’s okay. I just…” He trails off, his breath visible in the cold air, and he looks at you like he’s waiting for you to run away.
But you don’t.
Instead, you take another step closer, and then another, until you’re standing right in front of him. “You’re funny,” you say softly, and his face falls for a moment before you reach up and touch his cheek, brushing a stray snowflake away. “Of course, I feel the same.”
His eyes widen, his lips parting in shock. “You, uh, you do?”
You laugh, the sound bubbling out of you like the joy you’ve been holding back for so long. “Obviously,” you say, your voice teasing but warm. “Why do you think I made you a hat, Steven?”
He looks at you like he doesn’t quite believe it, like he’s afraid to move in case this is a dream. You don’t give him the chance to second-guess it. Standing on your tiptoes, you close the distance between you, your lips brushing his softly at first, then firmer as his arms instinctively come up to hold you. The kiss is warm and sweet, like every unspoken feeling finally put into words.
When you pull back, you’re both smiling, breathless and red-cheeked. “You’re going to get frostbite if we stay out here,” you say, though your voice is light with laughter.
“I’d risk it,” he says, his voice soft and teasing, “but only for you.”
You laugh and grab his hand, tugging him gently back toward the school. “Let’s go inside before we freeze,” you reply, even though you’re feeling warmer than you have in weeks, even with the snow still falling all around you.

I find it FUNNY how the boys in Dead Poets Society presumably (and so have been depicted) have not seen or interacted with the opposite sex properly before that the mere thought of talking to one gets them gaping and closing their mouths like a bunch of goldfishes.
Like hello?? Pull yourselves together

ORLANDO (FIRST KISS)
- charlie, your best friend, attempts to set you up with the crush he is convinced you have. (charlie dalton x gn!reader, includes some neil being a good friend, slight angst into fluff, happy au, no beta we die like real men)
word count: 2,647
a/n - i love charlie so much oh my god 😭 hopefully there’s more to come with him! i’m planning a very long fic for him, hopefully similar in feeling to my neil fic “the last time” :) this is slightly inspired by the song “orlando” by leith ross so pls check them out!!
It’s 1:32 AM on a Friday night (Saturday, technically, but that rarely seems to matter), and Charlie Dalton is refusing to let you sleep.
“You’ve got to tell me. I swear, cross my heart, I won’t tell a soul.” He begs.
Charlie has been your best friend for god knows how long. You met so long ago that you don’t even remember how or why; it just was. That’s exactly what your relationship is. There’s really no rhyme or reason, considering you would detest anyone else with his personality, but you’re friends anyways, and you love him with all your heart. Opposites attract, you suppose. You don’t know for sure. Most days, including today, he is extremely and desperately annoying.
You slump down onto his bed, covering your eyes with your hands. He’s gotten it into his mind that you have a crush, and he won’t rest until he finds out who it is. Lucky you.
“Charlie, it’s no one.” You groan, peeking past your fingers to stare at him with a cross expression. “Even if I did like someone, I wouldn’t tell you.”
The problem is, you do like someone, and he’s sitting right in front of you with messy hair and pajama pants.
Your feelings for him, just like your meeting, are so far buried in the past that you couldn’t dig them up with an excavator. One day, you suppose, you just started to fall in love with him. He’s annoying and rich and a total smart-ass, but you love him. In some soft, quiet ways, he is the kindest boy you’ve ever met.
He notices when you get cut off mid-conversation or when you’re just a little too uncomfortable to talk to the person in front of you. He knows you like the back of his hand and puts his knowledge to use without ever having to ask, like how he always gets you exactly what you want on your birthday. He’s smart and energized and a breath of fresh air, no matter how stale the room is. And, of course, though you would rarely tell him, he is dashingly handsome.
He sits up straighter and begins listing every boy you’ve ever come in contact with. “Meeks? You always did like his type. Ooh, or Pitts? He’s a pitiful lady-killer. Todd is another good choice. Knox has got his thing with Chris, so you probably wouldn’t like him unless you’re into getting your heart broken.” He stops his ranting to take a breath, then continues on. “You cannot like Cameron because if you do, I won’t ever talk to you again. It isn’t Cameron, right?”
You scoff. “I don’t have a crush. Stop trying to guess a person that doesn’t exist.”
“Neil?” He questions. You hesitate just a bit before waving away his suggestion. Neil is a very good friend of both yours and his, and truthfully, he would definitely be the best boyfriend out of all of them. Despite that, you do not love him like you love Charlie. Not even close.
He catches on to your hesitation with scary accuracy. The tilt of your head, the twitch of your hand, the way the corners of your mouth almost curved up into a smile. Charlie feels his heart drop. “Oh my god, it’s Neil. Of course it’s Neil, it’s always Neil! You like Neil.” Neil is, unbeknownst to him, a complete catch. It makes sense that you would like him. After all, he’s kind, outgoing, and a whole lot nicer than Charlie is. That doesn’t make it hurt any less.
Like you, Charlie doesn’t exactly know when you came into his life. Maybe a stuffy dinner party or a prep event- all that matters to him is that you’re here now, and he loves you. He does, however, know when he started loving you.
It was seventh grade at a school dance, and you had decided to go with a boy he barely knew. When the boy asked you out with a pocketed rose and a shy smile, Charlie felt his blood boiling. How dare he, he thought, take you away from him? You’re his best friend. He would have bought you an entire flower shop had you said the word.
Seeing you waltz with him in your pretty outfit, as awkward and stiff as you both were, was too much for him to bear. Charlie left early, prompting you to follow him. The scene that resulted was one you both tried heavily to erase.
“Charlie, what’s wrong?” You panted, hurrying after him as fast as your pinchy shoes would allow. “Charlie. Charlie! Talk to me.”
“It’s nothing. Just go away.” He sniffled. You turned the corner to see him sitting on a curb, tears tracking down his face. If you knew one thing about Charlie Dalton, it was that he hated crying. You sat down next to him, but he turned to face the trees to his left.
“What happened?” You asked gently. How he despised your gentle care.
“I hate you. Go away.” His voice broke in the middle of his sentence. “I never want to see you again.”
Something in you snapped in that moment, something angry and sad all at once. He was hurting, and you loathed it, but Charlie always got what he wanted in the end.
You stood up and left, muttering a “sorry” over your shoulder.
He tried to avoid you for a while after that, but as with all fated things, he couldn’t stay away for long. He went back to you without a hint of apology, and you took him. Begrudgingly, you just couldn’t be without your best friend for very long.
He knew he loved you then, and that fact hasn’t changed in the present.
“I don’t like Neil.” You insist. “Trust me.”
Charlie stands to pace around his room, talking with his hands as per usual. “Y’know, you always seem smiley around him. I should’ve seen it coming, really. The way you talk to him can’t be platonic.” You sigh from the bed, and Charlie flops down beside you. You can feel the heat radiating from his skin. It’s pleasant, like a ray of sun on a cold day. You instinctively move closer to him as he opens his mouth. “I could probably get you a date with him. Not that you couldn’t do it yourself, but,” he pauses, a hint of hurt humor in his eyes, “I could be your wingman.”
He doesn’t want to be. He really doesn’t want to be, but what can he do? He would rather see you happy with Neil than miserable with no one. Despite how much he hates it, he’s gotten over most of his prepubescent jealousy. He knows deep down in the very achingly sad part of him that you don’t love him. At least, not the way he loves you.
You’re facing him, your nose inches away from his chest as your heart pounds in yours. He really wants you to get with Neil. Well, if that’s how he feels, you don’t feel the need to reject the offer. Maybe this is just the thing you need. What’s the point in pining after him when he’s actively trying to set you up with his second best friend?
“Yeah. That… I would like that.” Charlie’s heart crumbles in his chest.
“Then I’ll get right on it.” He grins. Behind the smile, sadness is swimming in his eyes, but you don’t bother to look at them.
It’s winter break, one of Charlie’s favorite times of the year, but he doesn’t think he’s ever felt this sad before.
By the time the next weekend rolled around, you had almost forgotten about Charlie’s proposed setup. But, on this Saturday when you’re cozy in your room, Neil comes knocking at your door.
You open the door, slightly surprised. He’s holding a bouquet of flowers with a small grin on his face. They’re your favorite flowers.
“Hi.” He says. His voice is breathless.
You raise your eyebrows, but for some reason, you can’t help but smile. Neil is standing in your doorway, and you feel like you know what he’s going to ask. “Hey.”
“Do you want to go on a date with me?” He implores, holding the bouquet out for you to take. “It doesn’t have to be right now, but… I’m ready if you are.” He’s dressed in a crisp suit, and if you’re being honest, you’d hate to make him go home without putting it to use.
You laugh lightly, the feeling bubbling out of your stomach. “Yeah, I’d love that. Just let me get ready and I’ll be out in ten minutes.”
Two days prior to Saturday, Charlie proposed a dead poets town trip. They were milling around, bouncing from shop to shop before Charlie clasped Neil on the shoulder.
“What do you think about Y/N?”
Neil turned, confused. “What do you mean?”
There was a smirk on Charlie’s face, but he hesitated like he didn’t actually want to say the words he was about to say. “I mean, I think you two would be a pretty cute couple.”
Neil let out a huff of air, almost in disbelief. “You’ve been in love with them since seventh grade, Nuwanda. Don’t try to act like you aren’t.”
Charlie gasped exaggeratedly and put a hand over his heart. “How dare you suggest that! I just want the best for my dearest friends.” The others laughed. Every single one of them knew that Charlie harbored deep feelings for you- and every single one of them knew he would never admit it. “Look, just one date. Ask them out on Saturday. They really like you, and I know they’re free, so they can’t pull any excuses.”
“I just don’t know.” Neil admitted. “They’re great and all, but I’d feel bad if I stole away your crush of four years.”
“You won’t be stealing anything, my boy. Just think about it.” Charlie knew he was lying, and it left a bitter taste in his mouth, but he also knew that somehow, he was making the right decision.
Like all of your romantic endeavors, your date with Neil is slightly awkward. He’s your friend, sure, but you’ve never really thought about him like this before. You never even considered dating him. It’s always been Charlie. Maybe, just maybe, it’s time to broaden your horizons.
After the initial tension, you would like to believe it went well. Neil walks you out of the restaurant, holding your arm. He’s smiling, and you feel your own expression falter. You like him, you really do, but some part of you knows that he will never be Charlie.
He leans closer to you, almost close enough to touch. Your heart pounds in your chest as he whispers something into your ear. “Don’t look, but Charlie’s watching. Pretend I’m kissing you.”
You’re taken aback as your eyes try to search for his brown hair, but after a second, you comply. You shut your eyes and thread your fingers through Neil’s. To anyone else, especially anyone inside of the restaurant, it looks like you’re smashing tongues with him.
Neil walks you home as the day fades into night, and as much as you ask, your questions are left unanswered with a sly wink.
“I can’t believe you would do that.” Charlie rages. “It was meant to be a date, not a date and a tongue fuck! That was their first kiss, Neil, and you’ve stripped them of it!” He doesn’t know why he’s so outrageously enraged. It was a quick kiss from the boy you’ve been crushing on. He should be overjoyed for you.
“It wasn’t like that, Charlie. Just ask them.” Neil is surprisingly calm, considering his friend is screaming at him. “Ask them. Go on.” He pushes Charlie’s shoulder. “I walked them home.”
Charlie grumbles, his gut twisted into shaking, angry knots. “I will. If they tell me you did anything weird, though, you’re dead.” Neil shakes his head.
“I think you’d kill me even if I didn’t kiss them.”
For the second time, you hear a knock at your door. This one is loud and frenzied, but through the haze, you can tell who it is. Who else would knock so harshly at 11:23 at night? It’s a good four hours after your date, so it definitely can’t be Neil.
You open the door, clad in pajamas and a frown. “Seriously, Charlie? You’re gonna wake the whole neighborhood.”
“Did he kiss you?” Ah, straight to the point. He’s never one to beat around the bush.
“What’s it to you?” You defend. “You didn’t care about that possibility when you wanted me to date him.” You cross your arms. Why the hell is he so upset? You don’t understand anything about this. His motives, his feelings, right now, they’re more confusing than he’s ever been. Well, save for one night. Oddly, this reminds you of that dance a few years back. You don’t want that to happen again, so whatever’s going on has to stop.
He opens his mouth and then closes it like he’s actually considering what he wants to say for the first time in his life. “I just…” A defeated expression tugs his face down. Your heart plummets. You rarely ever see him crestfallen. The last time was four years ago, and you had hoped you would never see him like that again.
He turns to walk away. He can’t do it, he just can’t. He’s walking so fast the pavement under his feet is a blur, and you chase after him.
“Charlie, what are you-“ He turns, seeing the confusion on your face.
When he looks at you, all Charlie can see is love. He loves your voice, the curve of your lips, the way you do anything and everything. In that moment, when he sees you with tired eyes, his inhibitions flee like rabbits from a wolf. Maybe, just maybe, he can.
Before you can ask, yet after you see the fire in his eyes, he grabs your arm and cuts you off.
“Can I kiss you?”
You’re taken aback for a moment, lips parted, not speaking a word. His hair is messy and the tear tracks on his cheeks glisten in the street lights. It’s like everything you’ve ever wanted has sprung to life before your eyes. “Yes, but-“
He presses his lips to yours, effectively cutting off any further communication once again. His grip on you softens as his hands reach up to cup your face. Your eyes flutter shut, and a million different things race through your mind. All you can consciously think is that you never want it to end.
When he pulls away, breathless, something new is shining in his eyes. “I hope that wasn’t bad for a second kiss.” He smiles. He’s still worried, more so than he’s ever been, but that was the most amazing thing he thinks he’s ever done.
“Second? Charlie, that was my first.”
He pauses. “So Neil didn’t kiss you?”
You laugh, and upon seeing his even more excited face, you laugh so hard you double over. He joins, and your giggles are probably too loud for how late it is. “No! God no, he told me to pretend because you were watching.” Your voice comes out humorous and strained, with so much joy behind the tone that Charlie can feel himself starting to laugh again. “Were- Were you in the restaurant for our whole date?”
“Yeah.” He chokes out. “I couldn’t just let the love of my life date some other guy without my knowledge, right?”
“Oh, totally. Maybe you should ask me out next time, then, to completely avoid this whole scenario.” He pulls you in, laughing against your shoulder.
“Sure. Yeah, I think I will. Next time, I’ll make sure of it.”

may i request how the dps boys would react to realising they have a severe crush on a, preferably shy, reader! tysm <\3
Oh, I've been waiting for dps requests! Sorry for my late replies everybody, I got demotivated again because tumblr deleted a few of my x reader posts (and a few others). But I'll try to not let that happen again if I can even help it
I think Knox would have such a silly time trying to approach you. Because we all know he’s awkward, but determined at best and, well… pushy at worst. I'm trying to go with the version I saw in a play, because thankfully they cut out the party scene which means he’s still delightfully insufferable but not awful. Anyways, he would jump on every occasion to talk to you. And then just. Stand there. He’d try to give you flowers and poems, everything really. But he loses brain cells every time he’s around you. At least you’re both equally stressed about social interactions. He gets a little braver when you give him a smile or any other sign you like him. Not less awkward, but a bit more motivated to go for it. His main problem is that he can't read you well and despite being big on feelings and all, he still has a hard time actually talking to you. Clumsily, he showers you with over the top things, that most would find cringey but you think of as endearing. And if he thinks there's a chance he’ll lose you, he’ll confess right away. I think he is brave and pretty open about feelings. Just stressed out
With Neil, it's not an issue at all that you're shy. He’s more so taken aback by his own strong feelings. Because he wasn't expecting to fall this hard. But give him like five work days to process and he’ll be all in. I feel like he would take his time to confess but he’d make it known that he cares about you. He’d be checking up on you every time he can, bringing you coffee, asking to practice lines together, go to the movies in town. Even before you two start dating you just wake up and half of his sweatshirts are in your drawer (he likes to borrow you his clothes if you’re cold) and your desk is littered with poems he shared with you. He’s a gentle lover, but he knows what he wants and when the time is right Neil has no problem confessing
It's much funnier with Cameron because this boy is in panic mode 24/7. At first he legit thought he was sick because he always felt dizzy and distracted around you. And he’s a traditionalist. Everything has to be perfect when you’re around. Like he beats himself up about every little mistake he made around you. But also makes a point to treat you RIGHT. If you’re shy he might not know how to approach you at first, because he’s not sure if you’re even interested. And how to make you like him. After much teasing (mainly from Charlie, of course) he gets fed up with his friends and decides to make a move. It might not be the most romantic when he does, but it's sweet and genuine
Another one that would take time to confess is Meeks. He’s pretty quick to accept that he’s crushing on you. He’s like, yeah obviously they are amazing, now what do I do with that? He tries to give you things. Small things. Like maybe he could borrow you a book that you’ve wanted to read for a long time of buy you a coffee/tea if you’re out in the town. He doesn't explicitly say that he liked you but it's easy to tell and he’s not one to be shy about it either. So when you guys do get together, you already know his more… romantic side
On the contrary, Charlie takes time to process his feelings. He had crushes before, but real feelings (strong ones at that) aren't the norm for him. Sometimes he catches himself losing his cool around you and it messes with him so bad. He would probably ask Knox for advice. Which is a bad move. But he figures that at least his friend is more familiar with having those sorts of feelings. Nothing much comes of it because I can't imagine Knox giving him any good advice on the subject, but after he was able to talk about liking you, he decides to just go for it. Well, in small steps. Primarily because he’s just not an intense guy, but also because he’s surprisingly mature when it comes to respecting your levels of comfort. Doesn't mean it gets boring though, it's Charlie we’re talking about. Once you get together there's not a one dull moment with him by your side
With Todd, it might be difficult at first. He’s overwhelmed by fis feelings and has a tendency to talk himself out of making any sorts of moves. Why would you like somebody like him? He tells himself he doesn't have a chance, surely. It only confirms his suspicions when you don't take initiative. It's only after he’s been moping around for a few days that Neil approaches him about it and proceeds to give him shit for not doing anything to let you know his feelings. He’s like, bro, so you care about them so much that you’d rather not have them in your life because you want them in your life so much??? Make it make sense. So with Neil's encouragement, he tries to at least talk to you and see where it goes from there. Still shocked when you end up returning his feelings. You’re in his poems now, even if it's not very obvious (he's not as straightforward as Knox, so it's not ‘i love (yn) and I want them to be mine’ kind of deal). This is the only one where I'm sure you might have to make some sort of a move. Todd’s like a spider - he’s more scared than you are and if he could, he would just silently hang out in the corner of the room you’re in. But he gets a little braver after he starts feeling more secure
Lastly, Pitts is not as bad as Todd, but still takes his time. He’s comfortable with liking you and he knows what he likes, but he’s not in any rush to make things official. So any time he has any chance to talk to you, he does and just wants to see how things go from there. He jokes around with you, asks to come study together, tries to be close. He does care, just in a more chill way than some of the other poets would. If you two have been talking for some time, he would have no problem asking you to go out with him, doesn't make you feel pressured or anything. If the others are cool with it he will do his best to have you come to their meetings at night as well. So you do not only get an awesome boyfriend out of it, but also a great friend group

♡ ︎ꜱʜɪᴘ: Neil Perry x Reader
You were hunched over a pile of scripts, watching Neil Perry give another, well, unique interpretation of a soliloquy. His voice cracked with emotion, but… in all the wrong places.
"To be or not to be…" Neil began, attempting Shakespeare with the passion of a man on a mission. Unfortunately, that mission seemed to involve single-handedly destroying the Bard’s finest work.
You let out a long sigh, head in your hands. "Neil, what was that?"
He stopped mid-line, flashing you a sheepish grin. "Was it really that bad?"
You nodded gravely. "Like… epically bad."
Neil chuckled, scratching the back of his head. "Great. Then I’ll take it from the top?"
"For the fifteenth time today?" you groaned, shaking your head. "I don’t know how you’re going to pull this off."
"I have you," he said, flashing a confident smile.
That line always got to you. Even if he was hopeless at this, his heart was in the right place. So, despite every fiber of your being telling you to give up and leave him to his stage fate, you stayed. You spent hours together in the Dead Poets' Cave, rehearsing line after line, hoping, praying for a miracle.
A few days later, you were leaving the house when you spotted your dad, Mr. Keating, all dressed up and heading for the door.
"Where are you going, Dad?" you asked, curious.
He glanced back at you with that trademark mysterious grin. "Oh, didn’t you know? Neil has a play today."
Your brain went into overdrive. Neil? The Neil Perry who couldn’t deliver a line to save his life? The same Neil who, just yesterday, had confused Hamlet’s death scene with some kind of impromptu interpretative dance?
"Uh… what are you talking about?" you asked, baffled. "Neil’s terrible at acting. I’ve spent hours tutoring him, Dad. Hours. He's a lost cause!"
Mr. Keating just raised his eyebrows and gave you the look. The one that said he knew something you didn’t. The one that made your stomach drop with realization.
Oh.
Oh.
"Wait…" you stared at him, wide-eyed. "Are you telling me—Neil’s been… pretending to be terrible this whole time?"
Keating chuckled softly, his eyes twinkling with amusement. "He wanted more time with his tutor."
Your face flushed instantly. "I—I’m gonna kill him!" you sputtered, grabbing your coat in a rush. "He’s been wasting my time on purpose?"
Keating just smiled knowingly. "I think you’ll want to see the play first."
You stormed into the auditorium just in time to catch Neil on stage, and what you saw nearly knocked you off your feet. There he was, front and center, commanding the stage with ease, delivering lines with power and grace. His timing was impeccable, his emotions raw and palpable. The audience was absolutely enchanted. He was… perfect.
Your mouth hung open in shock. You had spent hours trying to get him to say one line right, and here he was, playing his role like he was born for it. You could barely process what you were seeing.
As the curtain fell and applause erupted around you, you pushed your way backstage, still fuming but also feeling a tiny bit impressed. Neil had some explaining to do.
When you found him, he was in his dressing room, still in costume, grinning like a little kid who had just gotten away with something massive.
"You…" you pointed an accusing finger at him, words failing you. "You’ve been acting like you couldn’t act?"
Neil smirked, casually leaning against the wall. "It worked, didn’t it? We got to spend more time together."
You sputtered, torn between being completely exasperated and, well, flattered. "Neil!"
He stepped closer, his grin softening into something more genuine. "I couldn’t help it. I needed an excuse. You’re a great tutor, by the way."
Your face flushed hot, and you crossed your arms, trying to hold onto your anger. "You’re insufferable."
"And yet, you’re still here," he teased, his voice warm and playful.
You rolled your eyes but couldn't help the smile creeping onto your face. "So, let me get this straight—you’re actually good at this? You just made me sit through hours of you being awful on purpose?"
He nodded sheepishly, scratching the back of his neck. "I might’ve… exaggerated my incompetence. A little."
"A little?" you exclaimed, laughing despite yourself.
Neil stepped closer again, his eyes soft with affection. "It worked, though, didn’t it? I got to spend time with you. And… I think it’s safe to say I learned more than just acting."
You shook your head, half annoyed, half charmed. "You’re ridiculous, Neil Perry."
He beamed at you, stepping even closer, the warmth of his presence making your heart flutter. "But you like me that way, right?"
You opened your mouth to protest, but Neil leaned in, catching you off guard as he whispered, "Admit it."
You narrowed your eyes playfully, trying to maintain the upper hand. "Fine. But next time, maybe just ask me to hang out. You know, like a normal person?"
Neil laughed, the sound rich and contagious. "Deal. But you have to admit, my method was more fun."
You couldn’t help but laugh too, the tension evaporating as you finally allowed yourself to enjoy the moment. “I hate how much I like you.”
He grinned, clearly thrilled by your confession. "Likewise."
The two of you stood there for a moment, grinning like fools, and you couldn't help but think that, even if he'd tricked you, it was worth it.
After all, he really did put on one heck of a show.

thinking about charlie, who will call you every single pet name known to the english language, and use them so much that sometimes you wonder whether he remembers your real name. thinking about charlie, who always insists on having his arm around you when the two of you are in public, no matter if it’s around your shoulders or your waist. thinking about charlie, who will absolutely cover your face with kisses when you’re upset until you laugh from how much it tickles, and have the most smug smile on his face when he’s accomplished it. thinking about charlie, who will attempt to write a saxophone melody just for you, and even if it doesn’t turn out quite like he wanted will feel like the sun has started shining in his chest when you smile at him after he plays it for you. thinking about charlie, who as much as he craves validation, eventually comes to find that yours is the only laugh he really cares about hearing after he’s told a joke.
thinking about charlie, who is always so jovial and takes so little in this life seriously, but who is deadly serious about his love for you; as much as he tries to bring light and levity into other people’s lives, you are the light in his life, and he will be damned if he doesn’t love you with the same determination he gives to telling jokes and causing mischief - strong, steadfast, with all the warmth and power of the sun he cannot help but remind people of, and that he insists he sees every time he sees you smile.

Whispers of forever
Summary: shy reader and Neil Perry meet when they’re partnered up for a poetry assignment. They’re love blossoms throughout it.

Masterlist
Warnings: none
-
The school bell echoed through the hallway, signaling the end of another tedious English class. Neil Perry gathered his books, ready to bolt out of the classroom, when the teacher's voice halted him. "Everyone a moment please”. You froze in your seat as Mr. Keating gestured for people in pairs to go to the front of his desk. When it was your turn he called Neil Perry up along with you, you’d always admired Neil from afar, his confidence, his smile that lit up any room, and the way he seemed to carry a lightness that made him stand out among your classmates. The idea of being paired with him for anything made your heart race.
"You two will be working together on the upcoming poetry project” Mr. Keating said with a knowing smile. "I think you’ll make a fine team”. Neil grinned, clearly unfazed. "Sounds great, Mr. Keating”. You nodded, unable to muster up anything more than that. Your voice had a tendency to get caught in your throat when you were nervous, and right now, it felt like you were trying to swallow a whole apple. "Alright, I'll let you both get to it”. Mr. Keating said, turning back to his desk as the last few students filed out. "Remember, make it extraordinary!".
Once outside the classroom, Neil turned to you, his bright smile warming the chilly hallway. "So, Y/N, do you have any ideas?.Your mind blanked for a moment before you managed to stammer out, "M-Maybe we could, um, meet in the library after school? We can start brainstorming." Neil's smile widened. "Perfect. I’ll see you there at 4?". You nodded again, the butterflies in your stomach doing cartwheels. You watched him walk away, wondering how you were going to survive working on a project with someone like Neil Perry without making a complete fool of yourself.
At just before 4pm you arrived at the library, your nerves bubbling up again. You’d chosen a table tucked away in a quiet corner, hoping the isolation might help calm you down. You pulled out your notebook, pretending to review your notes, though your thoughts were completely scattered.
"Hey, Y/N!" Neil’s voice cut through your nervous thoughts. He slid into the seat across from you, his smile just as bright as it had been earlier. "I hope you didn’t have to wait too long”. “N- Not at all” you replied, trying to meet his gaze. His eyes were warm, and there was something about the way he looked at you, like he actually wanted to be there with you, that made your nerves settle, just a little. “So” Neil began, pulling out his own notebook. "I was thinking we could start by choosing a theme. Something that resonates with both of us. Any ideas?". You bit your lip, your mind racing. "Um... what about... the idea of freedom? Like... breaking away from expectations?". Neil’s eyes lit up. "I love that. It's something that feels really personal to me, too”. He paused, a hint of seriousness in his tone. "Sometimes, it feels like everyone’s watching, waiting for you to be something… you’re not”. You nodded, surprised by the vulnerability in his words. "I know what you mean”. He looked at you for a moment, his expression softening. "I’m glad we’re doing this together, Y/N. I think we can make something really meaningful”. You felt your cheeks heat up under his gaze. "Me too”.
As you started to bounce ideas off each other, the initial awkwardness began to fade. Neil was patient, encouraging you to share your thoughts and making you feel like every idea you had was valuable. His passion for the project was contagious, and soon you found yourself getting more comfortable, more excited. Days passed, and every meeting brought you closer. You started to see sides of Neil that surprised you. His thoughtfulness, his insecurities, the depth of his emotions. And he, in turn, seemed to notice the little things about you, like how your eyes sparkled when you talked about a topic you were passionate about, or how you would absentmindedly twirl a strand of hair when you were talking and even how you bit your lip when concentrating.
It was after one particularly late study session that something shifted. The library was nearly empty, the sun setting outside, casting a warm glow through the windows. You were both laughing over a joke Neil had made when the laughter died down, leaving a comfortable silence in its wake. “Y/N” Neil said softly, his gaze locking with yours. "I… I really enjoy spending time with you”. Your heart skipped a beat. "I enjoy it too, Neil”.
He reached out, gently covering your hand with his. "I’ve never met anyone like you before. You’re… you’re different in a good way and I can’t get enough of it”. You stared at his hand on yours, warmth spreading from where his skin touched yours. “I’m just… me”. And that’s enough," Neil whispered. "More than enough”.
The moment hung in the air, thick with unspoken words. You looked up at him, and for the first time, you saw a hint of nervousness in his eyes, mirroring your own. Slowly, as if testing the waters, Neil leaned forward, giving you plenty of time to pull away. But you didn’t. Instead, you met him halfway, your eyes fluttering closed as his lips brushed against yours in the gentlest of kisses. It was brief, sweet, but it held a promise of more, of something real and tangible that had grown between you over the weeks. When you pulled back, Neil’s smile was softer, more tender. “Let’s make this project something unforgettable” he said, his voice barely above a whisper. You nodded, a smile tugging at your lips. "Together”.
And as you sat there, hand in hand, you couldn’t help but feel that this was just the beginning of something extraordinary.
~~~~~ ~~~~~ ~~~~~ ~~~~~ ~~~~~ ~~~~~ ~~~~~ ~~~~~
The autumn leaves had turned shades of amber and gold, crunching beneath your feet as you and Neil walked side by side through the woods behind Welton Academy. The crisp air was filled with the earthy scent of fallen leaves, and you couldn’t help but feel a sense of peace whenever you were out here with him. The poetry project had long since been completed, earning you both top marks, but more importantly, it had been the start of something far more meaningful.
Now, a few months into your relationship, things felt as natural as the changing seasons. Neil’s hand was warm in yours, his thumb tracing lazy circles on the back of your hand as you wandered deeper into the woods, the sounds of the school fading into the background. He had suggested the walk earlier that day, claiming he needed a break from studying, and you had been more than happy to oblige. Any excuse to spend time with him was a good one.
Neil slowed his pace, eventually stopping altogether in a small clearing. The ground was blanketed with leaves, and the trees overhead created a canopy that filtered the afternoon sunlight into soft, golden beams. He turned to face you, his expression soft, his eyes full of something that made your breath catch. “You know” he said, his voice low and warm, "when we first started working together, I never imagined we’d end up here. But now… I can’t imagine my life without you in it”. His words made your heart race, and you felt a familiar shyness creep up, though it was tinged with the warmth of knowing he felt the same way. "I feel the same, Neil. You’ve made everything so much… brighter”. Neil’s smile was tender as he gently tugged you closer, wrapping his arms around you in a loose embrace. You leaned into him, resting your head against his chest, listening to the steady rhythm of his heartbeat. Being in his arms felt like the safest place in the world, a sanctuary from all the pressures and expectations that weighed on both of you.
“You’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me, Y/N” he murmured into your hair. "I just wanted you to know that." You closed your eyes, letting the moment sink in. "You’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me too, Neil”.
For a while, you simply stood there together, wrapped up in each other and the quiet of the woods. The world outside seemed to fade away, leaving just the two of you in this perfect little bubble. Eventually, Neil pulled back slightly, just enough to tilt your chin up so he could look into your eyes. “You’re beautiful, you know that?" he said, his voice full of sincerity. You felt your cheeks heat up, but you didn’t look away this time. Instead, you smiled, reaching up to brush a stray lock of hair away from his forehead. "You’re not so bad yourself, Perry”. He chuckled softly before leaning down to press a kiss to your forehead, then your nose, and finally, your lips. The kiss was soft, unhurried, full of the unspoken emotions that had been building between you. When he pulled back, he rested his forehead against yours, his breath mingling with yours in the cool air. “Let’s stay like this forever” he whispered. You nodded, your heart full to bursting. "Forever”.
And in that moment, with the golden leaves falling gently around you, it felt like maybe, just maybe, forever was within reach.
take a chance on me | charlie dalton x fem!reader
summary: charlie dalton is obsessed with you and he mans up to ask you out on a date. you are secretly in love with him, but you can tell his intentions almost immediately.
pairings: charlie dalton x fem!reader
word count: 0.5k
warnings: none, but welton is a boys and girls school.
n/a: i was really looking forward to write something with charlie, and i am so excited for this one. i really hope you enjoy it. feel free to request anything! as always, english is not my first language, so there might be some mistakes, sorry in advance x
masterlist :)
"i'm gonna ask her out", charlie repeated for the thousandth time, staring at you from the other side of the common room.
"yeah, right.", knox teased him. "you always say the same thing but you never really do it."
"and also, what if y/n doesn't like you back?", wondered neil.
but charlie's ego was too big to break like that. and also, he had noticed how your eyes fixated on him when he wasn't looking, so, at least, you were interested in him.
"you can mock me all that you want, but i am going to do it.", charlie said, as he stood up. the rest of his friends stared at him in disbelief, with their mouths open.
you saw him approaching your group of friends and returned your sight to your latin homework, playing dumb. you knew your friends couldn't tell, but your heart rate was alarmingly fast as charlie was closer.
"hey, girls", he greeted you and your friends. "do you mind if i steal y/n from you one sec?"
you knew charlie wasn't asking for permission, he hardly ever did, so you stood up, closing your notebook. "what is it, charlie?"
"just a thing i wanted to ask you. come with me?"
you followed him to the corridor, which was empty, and waited for him to start talking. you and charlie weren't exactly friends, but you liked him. he was funny, and smart, and didn't have any problems to cause some trouble in school. he was also devastatingly charming, and every single girl in school would agree on that.
"so...", he started. "how was your day?"
"did you actually dragged me out of the common room to ask me about my day?", you laughed.
charlie fidgeted with the collar of his school shirt. "actually i wanted to ask you something."
"ask away, i'm not gonna bite you.", you said, jokingly.
"i was wondering if you had any plans this friday evening.", charlie said, and you flustered to your ears. your cheeks were so warm you even wondered if it was possible to be that red.
don't be an idiot, y/n. come on, woman up, you thought.
"um, no. i don't think so. why?"
"would you like to go out? like, with me?", he asked, and you could tell that he was blushing too. it was a rare sight to see charlie dalton blushing, but it was a very cute one.
"sure, yeah.", you replied, your hands trembling. you couldn't believe that. "anything planned?"
"i thought we could go to the cinema? if you're up to it."
"yeah. i love the movies.", a weird silence formed between the two of you, both too happy to say anything. then, you cleared your throat. "so, friday, 6pm?"
"perfect. i'll pick you up on your dorm."
you nodded, going back into the common room. a few moments later, charlie entered too, sitting with his friends. you could see his face between todd's and meeks' shoulders. he noticed you staring and winked at you. you lowered your head back to your homework.
and friday couldn't come fast enough.
"secret admirer" - dead poets society
summary: y/n receives yet another profession of love under their door—too bad the hallway is always empty when they open the door
pairing: anonymous!dead poet x gender neutral reader
word count: 591
i am back two years and one english degree later to write a fic that no one asked for! now that's what i call self care!
part two
Winter proved the student body of Welton wrong when they thought the school couldn't get any more dull. The cold can be cruel like that.
Just like the winter stripped the North of all life, Welton stripped it's students of all identity. In a place where boot licking is the norm and conformity is the goal—Y/N's only retreat was the 200 square foot box they called home for ten months of the year. The only place anyone in Welton was allowed to be themself.
That was exactly where Y/N and their roommate—Quinn—found themselves on a particularly cold Sunday morning.
Y/N sighed and looked from their homework over to Quinn, who had yet to get out of bed, "Do you know that guy that's like...scary good at latin? What's his name? Minks?"
"Hmm," Quinn hummed, wrapping the blanket closer to their body, "the ginger kid? Always hanging out with that tall dude?"
"Yeah, him," a pause and yet another sigh from Y/N, "I think I need a tutor if I want to keep an A this semester. I—"
Suddenly an envelope skidded under the door and across the floor. Rapid footsteps followed soon after and Y/N could hear a door slamming further down the wing.
Quinn rolled their eyes, "God. Not another one."
Y/N just shot them a look and picked up the envelope—one of many addressed to them and left unsigned.
"You wouldn't be rolling your eyes if you were the one with a secret admirer."
"You wouldn't be rolling your eyes if you were the one with a secret admirer mehmheh blah," Quinn mocked in a high tone, "Yeah. If they were for me, they'd be romantic. For you? Prepare to be murdered."
"Shut up."
Y/N opened the letter and dove in. Their heart was beating much faster than they would like to admit.
Lovely Y/N,
She walks in beauty, like the night Of cloudless climes and starry skies; And all that’s best of dark and bright Meet in her aspect and her eyes; Thus mellowed to that tender light Which heaven to gaudy day denies.
I couldn't help but think of you when Keating had us reciting Lord Byron's work last week. The sun was so bright for a dreary winter day, and the rays illuminating from the window painted an image of heaven around your silhouette. You looked so lovely, I could barely register Byron's words.
I would happily go toward the light if I knew you were waiting for me within it.
Sincerely,
Yours.
Y/N could feel Quinn's eyes on them as their cheeks burst into a rosy flame.
"He's in my English class."
Quinn gasped, "Finally! We have a lead!"
"Quinn, I really don't want to play detective on this...what if I think it's the wrong person and make a fool of myself? I think I would have to drop out. Die, even."
But Quinn kept rambling on, completely ignoring their roommate's apprehension, "it's too bad I'm not smart enough for AP English—I would for sure be able to catch that creep staring you down. You're so oblivious. He could be telling you all these things to your face and you would doubt that he's into you."
"I'm not that oblivious, Quinn."
"Oh, please," Quinn exclaimed, "you're so romantically challenged! This guy has been right under your nose and you don't have a single clue!"
Y/N scoffed and returned to their homework.
"Whatever you say, Quinn. We're just going to have to wait and see."
Pretend?
Charlie Dalton x reader CW: female reader, use of Y/N, making out, Knox and Chris, slight underage drinking [2.7k words]
“You guys gotta help me! It’s an emergency!” Knox burst into Charlie’s dorm room, breathless and frantic. He barely noticed the way Charlie and Y/N were laughing over some inside joke, their textbooks abandoned on the desk. He knew Y/N would be there; she always was.
Charlie looked up, his eyes narrowing with a mix of curiosity and concern. “Whoa, slow down, Overstreet. What’s the crisis?”
Y/N’s smile faded into a slight frown as she turned to Knox. “What happened, Knox? Are you okay?”
Knox took a deep breath, knowing this was a long shot but feeling like he had no other choice. “I need you two to fake date each other,” he said in one breath.
Y/N blinked, her frown deepening as she tried to process what Knox had just said. “Wait, what?”
Knox pressed on before he could lose his nerve. “Chris thinks we have something going on. You know how we flirted at one of her parties so I could make her jealous? Well now she thinks you and I are a thing, Y/N, and I need her to know that we’re not. Because you’re with someone else.” Knox took a breath. “I don’t care if it's Charlie you fake date. Hell, I can ask Cameron if you want.”
Y/N gasped at the thought of even fake dating Cameron, “Do you really think so low of me?”
Charlie raised his eyebrows, curious to see how Knox could get out of the grave he's digging for himself.
“No, I don’t. I promise,” Knox whined. “I’m just a guy in love making stupid decisions. So please, help me out, would you?”
Y/N opened her mouth to tell him he’s out of his mind, but before she could get a word out, Charlie’s lips curled into a mischievous grin. “You know what? We’ll do it,” he said, cutting her off, his tone filled with a teasing edge. He shot Y/N a wink, his eyes sparkling with amusement.
Y/N’s initial shock faded as she caught on to Charlie’s playful mood. A slow grin (and a lot of blush) spread across her face as she realized this could be a lot more fun than she’d initially thought. “Alright, yeah,” she agreed, turning to Knox with a smile. “We’ll help you out.”
Knox’s shoulders slumped in relief. “You two are the best,” he said, though he couldn’t shake the feeling that there was something he was missing in this whole arrangement.
“Not so fast,” Charlie said. “Our fake relationship comes with a price.”
And there it was, Knox thought, the missing piece. “Alright, what?”
“We each get a request. Only fair because this is Y/N’s second time helping your sorry ass out,” Charlie said.
Knox looked at his shoes, as if contemplating, however everyone knew he would do anything for a chance that Chris even looks at him. “Fine, but you have to decide now what you want.”
Y/N and Charlie looked at eachother and high fived. “Score!” Y/N cheered.
“Alright, I want folded laundry for a month,” Charlie requested.
“A week,” Knox retorted.
“Two weeks and I’ll give you a pick-up line pep talk.” Charlie shot a wink towards Y/N. “Angels should be in heaven. How'd you escape?”
Y/N giggled and put her head in her hands to stop them from seeing her face blush. It wasn’t even that good of a line, but it was Charlie delivering it.
This got Knox to reply quickly. “Deal. And for you?”
“Hmm. Twenty dollars so Charlie can take me out,” she responds.
“Done and done.”
Charlie pauses to argue, “Hey wait, how come you didn’t negotiate with her? Twenty bucks for one date? That’s so much!”
“Can it Charlie, he already agreed,” Y/N hushed. “And aren’t I worth an expensive date?”
“You know that's not what I meant,” Charlie pleaded.
“She’s worth more than you and has helped me out multiple times,” Knox explained.
“Fair enough,” Charlie shrugs. “Okay, so. How is this gonna work?”
“Well…” Knox starts.
The plan was simple: Knox and Y/N were both invited to one of Chris’s parties as usual, and this time, they invited Charlie to tag along. The idea was that Chris would see Y/N with Charlie and realize Knox was available, and maybe, just maybe, Chris would stop thinking there was something going on between Knox and Y/N and then make a move on Knox.
The night of the party, Knox was a nervous wreck. Charlie tried to help calm his nerves when he gave his Flirting 101 Pep Talk, but Knox still felt a knot in his stomach as they arrived at Chris’s place, a large, bustling house filled with students and the sound of music booming from the speakers. Y/N and Charlie walked in together, Charlie's arm slung casually over Y/N's shoulder, their smiles easy and relaxed. Knox followed close behind, trying to keep his cool.
Chris greeted them at the door with a smile, but her eyes quickly darted to Y/N and Charlie’s closeness, then finally to Knox.
“Hey guys. Come on in,” Chris welcomed the group. For a moment, her face hardened with suspicion, looking mildly uncomfortable.
“Chris, hi!” Y/N called. She moved to give Chris a hug, but Chris deflected, moving to let them all inside.
“Well you all know where the drinks are. See you around.” Chris ran off into the party, leaving the three friends in the foyer of Chris’s massive house.
“What did you do, Overstreet?” Charlie asked, turning to Knox.
“What do you mean, me?” Knox said with his hands up. “It was obviously Y/N she’s mad at.”
“Yeah, I didn’t like that at all. We were really starting to be close friends too.” Y/N hugged herself, feeling shame for something she didn’t understand.
“Hey, we’ll figure it out.” Charlie reached out to rub Y/N’s arms. “It’ll be okay, angel.”
“Let’s just get to the party to carry out Knox’s plan.”
“Right, let's loosen up.”
As they made their way through the crowd, Y/N and Charlie naturally gravitated toward each other, their banter flowing easily as they exchanged inside jokes. Knox couldn’t help but notice how well they got along. Better than most fake couples he’d ever seen (which was zero). They sat down on a couch in the corner of the room, and Knox awkwardly squeezed in between them.
Chris hovered nearby, her eyes darting between Knox and Y/N before she excused herself to grab drinks. Y/N and Charlie, noticing this, looked at each other and then at Knox’s sad face.
“You know what, Y/N and I will get us something to drink,” Charlie said, standing up. He offered Y/N his hand, which she accepted.
“Yeah, you just.. save us this spot, okay?” Y/N offered.
They received a groan in response, so they made their way to the make-shift bar.
Charlie got to the bar first and started grabbing multiple different bottles and cups at once.
“Careful with that, Dalton,” Y/N teased as Charlie attempted to pour them both a drink. “You might spill it all over yourself.”
Charlie smirked, deliberately overfilling his cup. “Maybe I just need someone to clean me up,” he quipped, leaning a little closer.
Y/N laughed, shaking her head as she reached for her drink. “You’re impossible.”
“And yet, you’re still here,” Charlie shot back, his tone light but his gaze intense. He brushed a stray strand of her hair behind her ear, his fingers lingering a moment longer than necessary.
Y/N’s heart skipped a beat, and she playfully nudged him. “Don’t get too full of yourself, Dalton.”
Just as Charlie was about to retort, Chris appeared beside them, her expression unreadable. “Hey, Y/N, can I talk to you for a second?”
Y/N glanced at Charlie, who gave her a small, encouraging nod, before turning back to Chris. “Sure, what’s up?”
Chris crossed her arms, her voice edged with frustration. “It’s not fair, you know. How you’re treating Knox. Last party, you two were all over each other, and now you’re with Charlie? What’s going on?”
Y/N sighed, realizing how things might have looked from the outside. “Chris, it was just for fun. There’s nothing between Knox and me. We were just trying to have a good time. I’m with Charlie now.”
Chris looked between Y/N and Charlie, processing this new information. “So, Knox is single?”
Y/N nodded, trying to keep her voice gentle. “Yeah, he is. I didn’t mean to lead him on or anything. He’s just a friend.”
Chris’s shoulders relaxed slightly as if a weight had been lifted. “Okay. I just.. I wanted to look out for him, you know?”
Y/N offered her a reassuring smile. “I get it. But seriously, there’s nothing going on with Knox and me.” Chris looked down, bashfully. “If you like him, you should talk to him.”
Chris nodded thoughtfully. “We’ll see. Thanks, Y/N.”
Chris left quickly, leaving the two of them to watch her go.
“Do you think that solved it?” Charlie asked.
Y/N kept her eyes on Chris. “Well, she’s heading upstairs instead of to Knox or at least the party.”
“I don’t know if that's a good sign or not.” Charlie rubbed the back of his neck. “I’m starting to think that Knox’s plan isn’t going to work.”
“Well, I don’t want to upset Knox, so I think we should stick to our plan and be by his side in case things go sideways for him.” Y/N picked up her drink and took a sip. “Here, get him a drink and we’ll go back.”
“Yes ma’am,” Charlie saluted and grabbed a beer for himself and a mixed drink for Knox. They both made their way back to where Knox was seated.
“Here you go,” Charlie said, putting a drink in Knox’s hand. “Made your favorite.”
Charlie sat down next to Knox, and instead of Y/N sitting on Knox’s other side, she sat on Charlie’s lap.
“Oh, hello.” A smile spread across Charlie’s face as he situated himself for Y/N. She sent a smirk back.
Knox leaned in toward the two of them, lowering his voice so no one else could hear. “It’s not working,” he hissed. “She’s still ignoring me.”
Charlie rolled his eyes, an exasperated sigh escaping his lips. “Knox, you can’t think it's that easy. Even if she knows Y/N and I are together, she might want to take her time with you. Relationships aren’t that simple.”
Knox frowned, his frustration bubbling to the surface. “Then what do you suggest? Because it looks like you’re just sitting there talking, and she’s still convinced Y/N and I are a thing!”
Y/N, who had just about enough of Knox’s bullshit and bad flirting ideas, finally spoke up, her voice tinged with irritation. “Maybe the problem isn’t us, Knox. Maybe you just don’t know how to talk to her.”
Knox opened his mouth to protest, but Y/N wasn’t finished. She turned to Charlie with a determined glint in her eye. “You want to see what a real relationship looks like?”
Before Knox could respond, Y/N leaned in close to Charlie, her hand gently cupping his cheek as she whispered, “Let’s give him something to believe in.”
Charlie’s eyes widened slightly in surprise, but a slow, confident grin spread across his face as he caught on to what Y/N was planning. “As you wish,” he murmured, his voice low and playful.
Without another word, Y/N closed the distance between them, her lips meeting Charlie’s in a kiss that was anything but fake. It was slow and deliberate, filled with an intensity that took both of them by surprise. Charlie responded immediately, his arms wrapping around her waist as he pulled her closer, deepening the kiss. They could feel the electricity between them, a chemistry that neither had fully acknowledged until now.
Knox stared at them in shock, his jaw dropping as he watched his friends completely lose themselves in the moment. He could barely comprehend what he was seeing. Their kiss was so convincing, so real, that he almost believed they were a couple.
As the kiss stretched on, Chris reappeared with slightly more makeup on and a new shirt, her eyes widening as she took in the sight of Y/N and Charlie locked in a passionate embrace. She turned to Knox, her expression a mix of confusion and curiosity. “Knox, can we talk for a minute?” she asked, her voice soft.
Knox snapped out of his stupor, nodding quickly as he stood up. “Uh, yeah, sure,” he said, casting one last glance at the kissing couple before taking out a twenty dollar bill and leaving it on the table nearby.
“Let’s leave those two lovebirds alone,” Chris said with a small smile, taking Knox by the hand and leading him away.
Once Chris and Knox were out of sight, Y/N and Charlie finally pulled apart, their breathing heavy, their faces flushed. They looked at each other for a moment, a mixture of surprise and amusement dancing in their eyes. And then, simultaneously, they both burst into laughter, the sound echoing through the room.
“That was..” Y/N started, but she couldn’t stop giggling long enough to finish her sentence.
“Amazing?” Charlie offered, his grin wide and unrestrained.
Y/N nodded. “Yeah, amazing.”
Little did Knox know, Y/N and Charlie had been secretly dating the entire time. Their relationship had started out quietly, both of them preferring to keep things low-key, but tonight had changed everything. There was no fooling anyone about their status anymore, not after that kiss.
“So, what now?” Y/N asked, her voice softening as the laughter died down.
Charlie leaned in closer, his forehead resting gently against hers. “Now, we stop pretending,” he said, his voice tender but firm. “No more hiding. No more fake relationships. Just us.”
Y/N smiled, her heart swelling with happiness as she nodded. “Just us.”
“So how about I take my best girl out on a date she deserves,” Charlie says, picking up the twenty dollars as Y/N’s reward.
Y/N laughed, “I don’t know, Charlie. Someone told me that was too much for a date.”
“Yeah, well, that was before the hottest make out of his life.” Charlie winked and stood up. “I think my baby could use some pampering.”
“Well if you insist.”
Charlie bent over and picked up Y/N as she squealed in excitement. He gave her a quick kiss before starting to make his way through the party to leave.
“Well, I’m glad to be out of a fake relationship and into a real one. With the same person, if I might add. Gets a little confusing, don’t you think?” They were approaching the front door and finally getting outside.
“I think I’m more happy to be done flirting with Knox,” Y/N shuttered. “Do you think your pickup lines helped him at all?”
Charlie stopped walking and stared straight ahead. “Well, either that or you talked some sense into Chris to finally talk to Knox. Look.” Charlie tilted his head forward, pointedly.
There stood Knox and Chris sharing a kiss (really getting at it for a first kiss too).
“Awe. Charlie, I think we did that.” Y/N hugged Charlie tighter, pushing their heads together. Charlie slowly set her down, keeping her wrapped up in his arms.
“No, baby, I know we did that. We’re gonna have to make speeches at their wedding about tonight. They’re gonna have to repay us by naming their kids after us.”
Y/N laughed, turning to Charlie. “I hope Charlie’s a girl then.”
Charlie rolled his eyes. “Well, as long as she’s beautiful. Gotta live up to the name, if you know what I mean.”
“Oh I do know. You are quite beautiful Charlie,” Y/N said, looking at Charlie as if he was the only thing in the universe.
Charlie blushed. “You know I could never compare to you.”
“I love you, Charlie.”
“I love you too, angel.”
They both leaned in for a kiss, this one slow and tender, a stark contrast to the heated exchange they’d shared earlier. It was gentle, filled with warmth and affection, a moment that spoke of love more than anything else.
I have a request!! Feel free to ignore if I missed a rule.
How about a female reader at Welton and a game of spin the bottle? 👀
Love this!! Sorry it took me a bit to respond, but here it is! Enjoy 😙
Spin the Bottle (DPS x fem!Reader)
Charlie Dalton’s plea for girls at Welton had somehow come true. Through unusual circumstances, you had found yourself in a chilly small tow in New England at an all-boys preparatory school, much to the delight of the so called Dead Poets.
The group of boys, seemingly making up a majority of the school’s outcast population, quickly welcomed you upon your arrival. Some of course were more welcoming than others...Charlie Dalton...while others couldn’t maintain eye contact with you if their life depended on it...Gerard Pitts, Steven Meeks, Richard Cameron, and most of all Todd Anerson.
On this particular night, you found this dichotomy playing out more than ever, in the form of a game of spin the bottle. What started as a joke between you and Knox had led to Charlie scouring the corners of his dorm room in search of any of the empty beer bottles he had tucked behind his furniture in secret. Once he found one, he gestured wildly for you and the poets to sit in a circle.
With a sigh, Neil reluctantly spun the bottle, smiling as it landed next to him,
“Alright Todd, truth or dare,” Neil said with a smirk.
“...tru-” Todd began through a quiet stutter.
“No, no, no. You’re playing the game all wrong,” Charlie interjected, hands gesturing to the bottle, “you’re supposed to kiss each other!”
Neil and Todd’s cheeks both turned crimson, a detail which the rest of the group seemingly missed while they collectively sighed, “ohhhh,” as Charlie shook his head.
“No offense guys,” Cameron began with a chuckle, “but I’m not too keen on kissing any of you.”
“Ditto,” Pitts groaned, with quiet hums of approval coming from the other members.
“No,” Charlie began, “but I know there’s someone here who we’re all pretty keen on kissing...” he raised his eyebrows at you.
“Oh, Charlie, come on” Neil squirmed as he whined at his best friend.
“You know what,” you weighed your options, “It’s all in good fun. Besides, whatever happens in this room, stays in this room”
The dead poets laughed, a slight blush gracing your cheeks as you looked to all of them. “To live deep and suck the marrow out of life?” Meeks toasted, to which you all agreed.
Grabbing the bottle to start the game, Charlie hoped in his mind that it would land on you, and once again his hopes came true.
“Well, well,” he smirked, closing his eyes and pursing his lips in your direction.
You giggled, leaning in to him and planting a quick kiss to his cheek.
“Hey-” he began, opening his eyes.
“Sorry Charlie,” you giggled, eyes traveling to the bottle which you were about to spin.
Butterflies filling your stomach, you spun the bottle and closed your eyes, opening them only when the boys all started oooh-ing again.
“Oh god,” Knox groaned, “this is torture,” he said as he crawled towards you.
“Just close your eyes and pretend its Chris,” Pitts joked.
“Knock it off,” Neil, the voice of reason, chimed in.
You and Knox shared an incredibly uncomfortable peck before he rushed back to his seat and your expression turned sour.
Knox spun the bottle, leading to an incredibly entertaining hover-kiss-squirming situation between him and Meeks. During his turn it landed on Cameron, resulting in someone making a ginger-on-ginger comment, making the group erupt in laughter.
Several rounds later you had found yourself in the clear, so far only sharing one real kiss with one of your colleagues, that is, until Pitts ‘s eyes locked with yours.
One of the more quiet and studious members of the group, Pitts and you hadn’t really spoken much, let alone touched. At least with Knox and Charlie that wasn’t your first time being close to either of them, but Pitts was another story.
His eyes told you he was nervous, but also excited, the kind of gaze you’d find in the eyes of a boy who had never kissed a girl.
Oh shit.
You blushed, face falling as you began to speak, “Pitts...you don’t have to do this if you don’t want to.”
He nodded, taking in your words, “no, no I can do it” “Atta boy, Pittsie!” Charlie clapped him on the back.
With a nod, you leaned over to him, capturing his lips in a brief, but thoughtful kiss. The other boys cheered as you kissed him, pulling away to see his eyes glossy with joy and surprise.
“Thank you,” he whispered, although unclear if that was directed to you or to God.
Several rounds later, a rather passionate kiss between Neil and Todd had shrouded the game in a sense of confusion too heavy for it to continue. So, on the last round, you found the bottle in your hands, and you found it pointing to none other than Charlie Dalton.
“How about a little redemption for the first round, huh?” He joked, raising his eyebrows at you.
You sighed, choosing your next actions for three very specific reasons.
1. The importance of a good finale
2. Charlie had a point...and he was cute
3.To distract from rom whatever the hell just happened between Neil and Todd
And with those reasons in mind, you launched yourself forward and grabbed Charlie’s face, kissing him like you meant it as his hands wrapped around your back and the poets cheered. It was the finale the game needed, but it would definitely make for a very interesting school day tomorrow.
Neil Perry SFW Alphabet . ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁˖ . ݁
Aw finally a post for our favorite Puck. Let's get into it.
A = Affection (How affectionate are they? How do they show affection?)
He is so sweet. He's the sweetest boy you've ever met, and it shows each time you spend time with each other.
He shows his love through gift giving; buying you notebooks before you even asked just because he knew you've ran out of paper (he found this out by taking a peek at your desk when he visited you), finding floral hairclips at the store just to buy them for you because he thought they'd look "just heavenly" on your hair (lol).
He's lowkey obsessed with making you look like a Shakesperean dream. To him, you are already — but looking the part? Ohhhh boy, you'll get him breathless. And I'm talking about greek stolas, medieval wear, all that good stuff.
Accompanies you on errands (yes, he's big on quality time.) You probably cycled your bicycle around town to find some newspapers to read, and he'd be there with you. Either walking along, or riding the bike while you sit tight and hold on at the backseat. It's just so romantic.
B = Best friend (What would they be like as a best friend? How would the friendship start?)
So annoying lol.
It's only fair since he visits you so often, but he'd find any — and I mean any — excuse to be with you. Maybe he'll say to his father how he's got homework (which he's probably smart enough to not need to be tutored by the girl across the street from his school), or he'll use the recreation time provided by Welton to plan anything with you.
Honestly, he's too much of a romantic to not be so obvious about it.
He might not tell his parents yet until he's ready because as far as he can allow it, to them you're just his "extremely good friend (for now)". But to his friends, he makes it clear as day — no matter how much he attempts to deny it.
They just know someone like him won't be going out for three hours without clear purpose, okay.
C = Cuddles (Do they like to cuddle? How would they cuddle?)
HE LOVESSSS IT OMG.
Girl give this man a hug. Many hugs. Deep, devoted hugs with the sweetest kisses.
Any of you who volunteer to love on this man with faith, the entire fandom will THANK YOU because at least now he knows someone has true faith in him.
Kiss his hair, kiss the side of his mouth, kiss his forehead. He loves it all. There's no such thing as too much affection with him
If you're in public, he'll settle for holding your hand. It shows others that you're his.
If you kiss him in public, though, he probably won't be as good at kissing you back. He gets far too red, far too quickly. It emits that stifled, giddy laugh he always does.
Hold on to his bicep. It's his favorite thing in the world. Makes him feel in charge, like he's your husband or something. He eats that UP.
D = Domestic (Do they want to settle down? How are they at cooking and cleaning?)
YESSSSSSSS. (lol)
Almost to a fault since he's the rushing type. His dream, even if he hadn't realized it as strongly before he got inspired by Keating, is to love and be loved.
Slipping a ring on your finger is just the cherry on top then ^_^
Neil loves you. He loves imagining a future with you, the present with you, and how different his past would be had you been there for him and near him.
He kisses you so gently each time that he wishes no more for you two to have your own space, to have your own privacy, to love without the meddling of others (including his parents.)
That being said he is... not too good at cooking with a recipe.
He's amazing at doing individual tasks, though, we have to give credit to that. Neil helped his mother out in the kitchen often already, so he knows how to cut, slice, mix, blend. All that. He probably knows how to make a good stew, but you have to watch over him and guide him over the recipe or he'll accidentally knock over the food processor.
He's a clean guy, okay. Both to himself and his surroundings.
Neil irons his clothes himself, he steams them even, he washes them, he sweeps and wipes his dorm. You'll be satisfied.
E = Ending (If they had to break up with their partner, how would they do it?)
I SEE YOU ANGST LOVERS BEING SNEAKY WITH THIS LETTER
Thank you, next.
F = Fiance(e) (How do they feel about commitment? How quick would they want to get married?)
He's gonna roar at this lol.
Like,,, really quick. Right after school. A maximum of a year.
He's just ready to treat and commit to YOU, okay... like please let him build a home and life with you.
His parents would expect that he settles down with a nice girl too, so having you is a blessing to them.
Speaking of their conventionality and conservativeness, Neil would probably find it so relieving if you do want to marry him just as quick.
Give this man kids y'all.
G = Gentle (How gentle are they, both physically and emotionally?)
♡o♡ He loves you. No question about that.
You know how he has big hands? He says their purpose is to hold yours when you almost trip after trying to manouver around a big oak tree.
That's your hangout spot btw lolz.
He always gives you those puppy eyes when he's admiring you, resting his chin on his arm when you're doing something.
Neil smiles wider when you poke his nose and nuzzle it against his.
Yeah, pretty self explanatory.
H = Hugs (Do they like hugs? How often do they do it? What are their hugs like?)
They're warm, loving. It feels like home, like safety. He's so broad and tall that hugging him feels like a weighted blanket.
You love it most when he's rested against you when you both fell asleep after reciting Romeo and Juliet with each other.
He hugs you like you could dissipate from him any second; with desperation, a little bit of insistence, and a lot of devotion.
Sigh.
I = I love you (How fast do they say the L-word?)
This is adorable.
Neil saw you, his "best friend" (whom his parents already approve of, so thank goodness for that peace), sitting on his second play; a proud beam on your face and clapping the loudest applause.
It's only possible that he got to participate in it to begin with because you convinced his parents during dinner that theatre could "provide as a stress relief" for him before he entered Ivy League.
At the end of Hamlet, he pulls you onstage and kisses you in front of everybody. Yes, even his buddies.
He gave you his biggest bouquet full of carnations, delphiniums, lilacs, and pomanders and latently (not so much) declares you as his.
You can't help but agree since he's been the love of your life even before you've both verbally admitted it.
He kisses your temples right after, a show of gratitude, and whispers those words you've only heard in your dreams. Everyone's never been so proud of him. You're his success.
J = Jealousy (How jealous do they get? What do they do when they’re jealous?)
Ohhh yikes. This one is interesting.
He does. LOLLLLL
Let's say you've married (YAYY omg), and you've settled down for quite some time. Maybe a year or two. He's your loving husband, and you're his delightful darling wife.
One day, he got an invitation for a reunion (yes, at Welton.) You both attend and all went well, but there was a reason why he didn't tell anyone outside of the Dead Poets about you while you two were in high school.
You're pretty. So, so pretty. All he's ever hoped and dreamed of — and apparently others too.
There's a reason why he grasps your shoulder closer during the event when his other classmates came to say hello.
It's less jealousy and more protectiveness.
He's your knight in shining armor and he needs to know you keep viewing him that way :( even while others might not believe so.
But he's awesome, so a little rub on his chest and a nice "I'll get us some hors d'eouvres, darling? I know how much you love the raspberry tarts ^_^" gets him all settled
And a bit smug, let's not lie.
K = Kisses (What are their kisses like? Where do they like to kiss you? Where do they like to be kissed?)
Oh, this is soooo ଘ(੭◌ˊᵕˋ)੭* ੈ♡‧₊˚
He cups your jaw and caresses his thumb there, and he kisses you like a promise. Like he's going to war.
Don't be surprised. You literally married a theatre kid.
Neil makes sure you're both somewhat secluded, be it under a sycamore tree or by the corner of the library shelves, and backs you up before kissing you like he'll be the only one you'll love for eternity.
He loves to be kissed by his knuckles. It makes him feel so mighty and brave. Don't ask me why, it's a man thing. Lol.
Sometimes he'll bury his face on your neck and hug you from behind. You two will share stories and he'll be content just guarding you there.
Sigh. Love.
L = Little ones (How are they around children?)
Neil loves them. Finds them especially adorable if you were the one to interact with them.
He's especially good at handling his baby niece. She's just two years old, but she calls him 'Ni-ni' each time she visits his parents' home.
They almost always make him babysit her when the parents are downstairs eating or just talking, and he always has such good fun.
He's an imaginative man, so he'll go out of his way to read a story to her and make funny noises until she cackles in her little voice and tumble backwards.
It all changed when you came into the picture.
He doesn't wait until he gets told to take care of her now — no, he offers himself to the position.
His parents love inviting you over for dinner or for thanksgiving and other holidays if you're not back at your parents' place, so he'll bring his niece to you and you'll both take care of her together.
It's the most fun he's ever had.
Let's say he'll probably talk about having kids that exact same night. Just entertain him. He's having a moment.
M = Morning (How are mornings spent with them?)
Once you're married, he probably works quite early. So you'll help fix his breakfast and he'll kiss you on the forehead, and while you're cooking, he'd tell you how gorgeous you are, how he's so happy to have you there, and how he's going to write you in his next playwright.
He groggily insists you should stay home beforehand, but both of you know you two are far too carpe diem-ish to sit still and do nothing.
You spend the day doing activities with the other in mind and heart.
Such a lovely routine.
N = Night (How are nights spent with them?)
Assuming he works long hours, by the time he's home you're both already tuckered out.
He mumbles something incoherent and slips behind to hug you like a grizzly bear preparing for hibernation
You just giggle and remind him to change and wash up first, since you've gotten a bit more sleep while waiting for him to return.
Neil pouts when you prompt him to get upright, but he eventually caves when you kiss him with the promise of more affection when he manages to change his clothes and get a nice wash.
Then he goes down to lock up everything before you two go off to peaceful slumber.
O = Open (When would they start revealing things about themselves? Do they say everything all at once or wait a while to reveal things slowly?)
He's the type to prefer the attention to be just around the both of you in the beginning.
He generally avoided talking about things surrounding his home life, or other things that revolve around that.
Once you've become familiar to one another and you assure him, with great vigor, that whatever he's been through or will go through in terms of family ties won't deter you from the relationship, then he'll open up.
P = Patience (How easily angered are they?)
He's only ever angered by principle. If injustice is committed, if the people he cares about ever gets into trouble or unjustified danger, or something unfair ever happens.
He used to bottle it up and just say 'forget about it,' but you rolled your eyes and crossed your arms and berated him there and then.
Ever since, he's seen his anger as not a form of rebellion, but as an expression of care and genuine passion.
"If my love that envelops you is one of good passion, then I don't doubt that my rightful anger should be any less than."
Read that in his voice because yes, he said that.
Q = Quizzes (How much would they remember about you? Do they remember every little detail you mention in passing, or do they kind of forget everything?)
He's a poet, baby.
Yes he does.
Even the way your fingers move in tandem when you wash your hair does not get missed out by him.
He's not perfect, though, and he knows you prefer him this way; he forgets your friends' names. Lol. I have to say it. Unless you mention them a lot of times or they're seen like 24/7 with you, he won't be able to tell who they are.
Everything else, he associates with you though. Like to him, your favorite color is his definition of you, your favorite flower is you. You become everything he's remembered about you.
R = Remember (What is their favorite moment in your relationship?)
Ah, love.
He remembers the moment you first declared your feelings for him, backstage when everyone has started to go home.
He stayed a while to talk to you with the excuse of taking off his costume and makeup, but you stayed there.
You sat on top of the vanity, swinging your legs as you looked up to him with sparkles of admiration in your eyes.
He leaned closer, savoring you. He didn't want to kiss you yet. Neil just wanted to make sure you're there, you're his, and that moment was shared just between the two of you.
His greatest dreams of love had just been declared into fruition, and he couldn't have been happier.
S = Security (How protective are they? How would they protect you? How would they like to be protected?)
The first bit of this has already been answered so the second part it is.
He does it way more to you, but anytime you do it back, he finds it soooo ଘ(੭◌ˊᵕˋ)੭* ੈ♡‧₊˚ when you step up for him.
Like the time you had to convince his parents? Or that one time you snapped back a snarky retort at Charlie for teasing him? Ooh boy. Gets him going.
He just likes the feist in you, okay.
T = Try (How much effort would they put into dates, anniversaries, gifts, everyday tasks?)
This is the sweetest thing because tell me he wouldn't absolutely write a journal's worth of poems for each of your birthdays.
He has the money to buy you trinkets and he would, like heart-shaped pendants, flower promise rings.
But he also loves to put in effort for the DIY gifts. I'm talking about scrapbooks with the photo of you two together, complete with the lipstick kiss mark you've left on his old notebook, torn neatly and stuck to the journal with some patterned tape.
His concept of love is to go all out for his beloved. In this case, you ♡☆♡ ^_^
U = Ugly (What would be some bad habits of theirs?)
I'm gonna be so real...
He is such a crybaby when he's sick.
He'll go all out with the sniffles, the red nose and the coughing.
"Honey, come on. Please :(( I can't grab it myself," as he feigns reaching for the flu medicine. He hides himself under the pillow and whines for you.
You dated and married a theatre kid. Don't blame me for his dramatics.
V = Vanity (How concerned are they with their looks?)
Oh, man lol. Boy has his self perception changed since he's met you.
"Honey, don't you think I look just as divine as you are? My arms grew quite stronger," as he flexes in front of the mirror. And he is locked IN to his reflection as he mutters this.
He used to be quite modest about himself, but now he's thrown it all to the side. Thanks to your endless compliments and praise that he let into his head!
"Darling, won't you hold the mirror for me, please? Need to look my best as your man."
You smack his arm with a hearty laugh before you two go out. He loves it.
W = Whole (Would they feel incomplete without you?)
He's a lovely, mature, and sane man.
Secure attachment is all I'll say.
X = Xtra (A random headcanon for them.)
Let me just mention a couple of out-of-context phrases he'd say to you.
"But I wanted those bags of candies!"
"You promised to stay" (yes, he is guilt-tripping you. he does that often with his puppy, brown eyes)
"I love the way you smell. Honey, you're just as good as pie."
Like dude alright you're smitten leave all of us be.
Y = Yuck (What are some things they wouldn’t like, either in general or in a partner?)
He has an unspoken (yet often expressed) disgust about porridge.
Yes, he eats it when he's sick because he couldn't possibly have said no to his mother. But yes, he does gag a number of times when she isn't in the room because of how awful the texture is.
If he's sick, just make him soup. He wouldn't ever tell you if he doesn't like your cooking, but for the sake of his stomach.
Z = Zzz (What is a sleep habits of theirs?)
Y'all r gonna laugh so hard but he's a drooler.
Like he drools and he curls up like a humbug.
It's okay, just put a napkin on top of his pillow and the problem will be solved.
You won't be able to deny his bear hugs anyway and you love him too much so.
You'll live.
Todd can’t help the way he feels about you.
You’re kind to him, always nice, so patient. Never getting annoyed when he stumbles over his words or goes quiet as he gets lost in his head trying to think of the best response, forgetting to answer.
It’s why when he overhears your friend teasing you about a crush, his heart instantly sinks to his stomach, feeling sick, because there’s no doubt in his mind that it’s not him.
It could never be someone like Todd who would hold such attention from you.
Things like that didn’t happen to Todd.
He should leave it alone. He should forget he ever heard anything. He should really leave you alone, his senior of one year, and find friends his own age.
But he doesn’t seem to click with anyone else.
He felt desperately like a puppy scorned of any attention when you first smiled at him, all kind angles, nothing malicious in the way you talked to him so nicely.
You’re overcompensating, with your kindness. For all the bad things that have happened to you. You’ve let him into your life, sharing things that not a lot of your friend group knew (not that Todd knew this, to him it was common knowledge). And he’s surprised that your life isn’t perfect.
For all the shitty, horrible, terrible things that have occurred, you’re just as determined to be the opposite. To be a light instead of the darkness that is so easy to succumb to.
“I didn’t have a lot of friends growing up,” you whisper to him one night, sneaking away from the party with your lukewarm drink and his soda that’s beginning to taste flat.
Your head leans against his shoulder and he tries to breathe evenly, to be the perfect shoulder for you.
“I was really lonely. It felt like no matter what I did, I never fit in. People liked me, but no one wanted to be my best friend. So, I guess I never want anyone else to feel like that.”
Todd thinks about that night a lot. The weight of you against him, how the air was crisp, and the scent of your shampoo drifting into his senses.
He wonders if you’ve brought him into your circle out of pity. If you don’t see him as a friend, but as a past version of yourself laden with no friends. If you’re trying to reach into the past and rewrite the story. He doesn’t like to think about it too much because it hurts.
Really, he should try to spend less time thinking about you. But the more he tries to forget, the more he thinks.
He can’t stop thinking about the word crush. His dictionary has been opened to the C section so many times that it has a natural crease there now, flipping to the page as soon as he opens the book.
Crush: a strong but temporary feeling of liking someone.
It could be just a harmless tease from your friend. As far as he knows, there is no one who you could have a crush on. He watches you a lot, and there’s not a lot of people you spend frequent time with outside of your friends and him.
This endless thought that could be nothing that is leading him into a slow descent into obsession. It bothers him.
Someone who could yield your affections must be someone special, worthy of such attention.
But what if it’s not? What if it’s someone who wouldn’t be careful with your heart, wouldn’t take the time to learn the workings of your mind? What if your feelings are not temporary?
Todd loses sleep over it, worry gnawing at the edges of his thoughts until he’s become edgy.
You notice, of course, that Todd will withdraw into himself. With gentle coaxing, he’ll return but sometimes he stays stuck.
Lately he’s been stuck and nothing you’ve done has been able to break through.
He shocks you by finding you in the library, clearly still caught in the webs of his overthinking mind. Appearing normal as he pulls out a textbook and notebook, pen tapping against the palm of his hand.
The words blurt out of his mouth, rushed through in a painful exhale that sounds more breathy than he intended. He hadn't even meant to say that.
“You have a crush?” He asks.
And then stops, breath hitching, heart beginning to race.
He doesn’t want to know. Can’t bear to watch the way your lips form the name of someone who isn’t him.
Instead, you smile at him. Shrugging your arms and sighing.
“Not you too! Everyone is pestering me over it.” You avoid the question, Todd is quick to notice.
“I overheard Meeks.” Todd says.
“He’s such an instigator.” You roll your eyes.
Todd knows you well enough to know that you’ve purposefully not answered him. It brings a small flutter to his chest.
“Do you?”
It’s painful, to dig in and search for an answer that he know will hurt. Rubbing salt into the wound that is his aching heart. But he has to know. It’s like an itch he can’t reach.
“Yes, Todd, I do. Although calling it a crush is silly. It’s much stronger than that.” You say, very quietly.
Or maybe Todd can’t hear you well over the sudden rushing in his ears.
“Oh.” It’s all he can manage.
Crush, is simple and small. Temporary.
Stronger than a crush? Well. That’s not so simple or small.
“Todd, can you look at me?”
He can't. Eyes glued to the floor of the library, feeling his cheeks flush with warmth and his stomach twist into knots. Slippery and hot as he tries to calm the sudden urge to be sick.
You reach out to grab his clammy hands, giving them a firm squeeze. He manages to squeeze back.
“It’s okay, breathe.” You count out the breaths for him until they’re no longer shaky.
His cheeks are still flushed, but not with anxiety. Feeling the sweat on his neck begin to cool. Stomach settling.
“Todd, I really like you. A lot.” You grin. “I have a crush on you.”
“Why me?”
“Because you’re you.”
Todd has another fitful night of sleep, but this time it's because he can't stop thinking about the moment in the library. Flushed with embarrassment, but also with a giddiness. Thinking of what you had said, to him alone and him only:
"I'm infatuated with you, Todd Anderson."
helloo, I would like to make a request for Todd. where the reader is cheeky and flirts with him during breaks, but also leaves him small poems where she confesses her love. He feels the same way but she doesn't know it, and he confesses it to her one day when he hears her crying under a tree because she felt that he would never like her, and that she felt stupid trying to make him like her.
by the way, i love how you write and I fell in love the first time I saw Ethan Hawke in the movie😭😭💖
warning: none, too fluffy maybe!!
summary: how bad can it be having a crush on your classmate? Leaving poems in his desk, just as secretly as he is in love with you.
a/n: a long one, that's it, please clap for me A WHOLE THREE HOURS WRITING THIS 😭😭😭 hope you liked it!!! AND TY FOR YOU WORDS AND SAME I FELL FOR ETHAN IN THIS MOVIE TOO 😭😭🤍
✿ I LIKE YOU, YOU LIKE ME? : TODD ANDERSON
Every day you wait for Todd and his group of friends during breaks, since you didn’t share any classes with him. At first, you were friends with Pitts, and then you became close with all of them, except Todd. One day after classes, you saw him sitting alone. He always seemed like a bundle of nerves, but you liked that about him. You snuck up on him until you were right by his side.
“Writing for English?” Your voice made him jump in his seat, and he looked at you, startled.
“Y-yeah. I mean, no,” he stammered at first, closing his notebook and glancing around as if searching for help.
“I heard the classes are very... strange?”
Todd looked at you, almost offended, and shook his head. “It’s more than that. It’s like a lifestyle.”
“Wow. I’d like to be there, then,” you said with a smile, sitting beside him and glancing at how his hands were clinging to his pants, holding onto his comfort zone.
“You should. Why aren’t you? Aren’t we in the same year?” he asked with an honest curiosity that made you smile. It seemed like he was interested in you, in a way.
You nodded. “We are, but I got assigned a different teacher. Old-fashioned and boring, but he reads us beautiful poems,” you admitted, and for the first time, Todd smiled—just at you.
“You read poetry?”
“Of course! Although we read a bit of everything, it’s always Shakespeare.”
“Mr. Keating prefers Whitman, I guess.”
Since that conversation, you would find yourself approaching Todd during every break, taking the opportunity to give him small hints about your feelings toward him, which only grew stronger. The others could notice what you were doing, but Todd? Todd always seemed to be too caught up in his thoughts, never really in the moment, but still, you liked him more.
"Todd!" You shouted from across the campus and ran in his direction. Todd blushed at feeling so many eyes on him, but still, he stopped and waited for you. "Thanks for coming over," you said, laughing, and stopped by his side, letting your lungs take in a bit of air.
"‘I-I’m sorry!’ He would say, embarrassed to feel so clumsy just watching you run.
"It’s okay" you said with a smile, stepping closer. "On Monday, I’ll have a presentation" you started shyly, and Todd looked at you, confused. ‘I’ll have to recite a poem.’
"Do you want help?’" he asked, with a voice as delicate as always.
"No! I mean, I would loved that, but I already have one, I just... I don’t know, I thought maybe you could come watch me.’
Todd paused for a few seconds, then snapped back to reality and nodded. "Of course. I don’t think I have anything to do. J-just tell me the time, and I’ll be there." He never looked you in the eyes for long. For a few seconds, his eyes would meet yours, then he would find something less invasive to focus on. But you liked it.
"At four. Library. If you go, you should bring me some roses."
"I-i should?" Todd nervously looked around. "I'll have to grab some from here, then."
You laughed. "Bring some pretty ones."
"Aren't all flowers pretty?"
You nodded. "You're right. I should be more specific. Bring ones that won't make me sneeze all day."
"You're allergic? Then why would you ask me to bring flowers?"
You shrugged. "Because they're pretty. The gesture will be sweet, too," you said, winking at him, making Todd blush slightly.
After that conversation, you began leaving little notes with poems written for Todd under his desk every day without fail. You would hide behind the door, watching his reaction from the hallway. His pink cheeks, sparkling eyes, a shy smile he failed to hide, and his hands hurriedly stuffing the notes into his pockets made you completely happy. You wondered if he kept them for himself and hid them somewhere special.
Weeks went by, and your moment to recite in the library finally came.
When it was your turn to step up, you held the paper in your trembling hands, and your eyes instinctively searched for that blonde hair, but failed. Todd hadn’t shown up. You sighed in disappointment and recited your poem. The room filled with applause and cheers, and people praised you all the way back to your seat. As you walked back to your dorm, you saw him. Todd Anderson was sitting on the grass with the other poets laughing, and suddenly, it all made sense. He didn’t like you.
Todd looked at you, his eyes wide open, but you simply turned away and headed toward the solace of your dorm.
The next days, the notes on his desk stopped appearing, taking with them Todd’s excitement to arrive early to class just to read them. From then on, you also avoided Todd at all costs, not wanting to see his face, wishing to forget him. But he remained etched in your mind and heart, as important as a commandment and as necessary as the air in your lungs.
But you never cried, instead, you were angry at yourself for your foolish efforts to win his affection, which ultimately amounted to nothing. That changed one afternoon when you were sitting under a tree, far from Welton. The wind played with your hair, and the orange sunlight on your face heightened your emotions, and you ended up crying.
Footsteps startled you, and as you looked up, there he was. Todd. His face, worried and exhausted as always, but this time, his eyes held an unusual brightness.
He knelt in front of you, his face full of concern. "Are you okay?" he asked, his hesitant hands hovering in the air, unsure whether to touch you.
You nodded. "Yeah, go away, Todd."
"No, you're not," he murmured, watching as you swallowed your tears and avoided his gaze.
"I am. It's nothing, okay?"
"Come on, you can tell me," he whispered, something inside him knowing it was his fault, yet still gathering the courage when he saw you crying under that old tree.
"Todd, just—"
"I'm sorry," he blurted out, interrupting you. "I didn’t mean to miss your presentation. It’s just that—"
"You don’t have to make excuses, Todd. Really. You could’ve just said no," you murmured, letting out a tired sigh.
"No! I wanted to go. It's just... I wanted to find flowers for you, but I couldn’t. I asked the guys for help. At three! But time passed, and we failed. I’m sorry," he stammered, his hands fidgeting in a silent war with each other.
"Todd. It was sweet of you to try. But it's okay, I forgive you. That’s not why I’m like this, so don’t feel bad," you said, your voice as strained as Todd’s, which wasn’t usual for you.
"Then what is it? Y-you can trust me, I promise," he said, sitting in front of you, moving a few inches closer.
"It's silly," you said, playing with the long grass beneath your feet. "I'm... scared?" you confessed.
"Scared?"
"Yes, you know. That feeling you get when you think about the future or the past or the dark or—"
"I know! I mean, scared of what? I’m scared of many things... too many," he murmured, looking at you expectantly
"Of love," you admitted, embarrassed. "Not love itself, but the absence of love, you know?" Todd nodded eagerly. "I mean, I don’t know if I’ll ever be loved or if I’ll have something with someone! And it's scary."
You felt so small next to Todd, filled with fear, shame, and shyness. Todd, on the other hand, felt with so much power, more power than what he liked. He knew he needed to encourage you, but the words wouldn’t leave his mouth, making the moment worse.
"Don’t say that. You will be loved, you already are."
"By my mom, maybe," you said with a chuckle.
"No, I mean, yes! But I mean romantically."
"Do you believe in that idea that the love of my life is destined and wandering out there?" you whispered as if sharing a secret.
Todd nodded. "Y-yes. They could be very close to you. Closer than you think. Right in front of you... trying so hard to be noticed. Failing. Always," he finished with a whisper, his hands ceasing their internal fight and gripping each other for comfort.
"Todd, what are you talking about?" you asked breathlessly.
"I like you! I like you..." For the first time in your life, you heard him speak so loudly and clearly that it startled you, leaving you unable to form any words. "You don’t have to say anything... Your eyes. They say more. Always," he murmured, looking into your eyes for so long that you feared feeling exposed.
But then you understood. You already were. Todd already knew you were the girl behind the poetry and that you felt as deeply for him as he did for you. His hands released their grip and gently touched your face, wiping away the silent tears streaming down your cheeks and caressing the flushed areas. Your crying stopped, and your heart raced. You felt his heavy breathing over you, and he felt yours. After a few seconds, Todd kissed you. It was short, rushed, and anxious. But it was the best kiss you’d ever had in your life.
"I like you too. A lot, Todd," you whispered without opening your eyes, afraid your eyes would say more than your lips.
"I knew it the second week the notes stopped," he said, and you opened your eyes. "That’s when I realized I wasn’t the only one in love."
"Todd..." He silenced you with another kiss, this one slow, delicate, and patient, filled with unwritten poetry between the lines. Much better than the first, leaving you wanting more.
After that, the two of you began dating. You showed your love through physical acts, like kissing, hugging, or holding hands all the time. Meanwhile, Todd preferred to be more reserved. He now left you notes and preferred to kiss you in secret, feeling the intimacy of his love. And then, everything made sense.
