Why Fiber Belongs on Your Plate
Protein intake is becoming a top priority in wellness circles. Nutritionists and other health experts are now frequently calling for higher daily recommendations (often 100 grams or even more per day), while social media accounts offer numerous tips for "meeting your daily protein target"
Experts are recommending these higher amounts because we now recognize how important protein is not just for muscle growth (and maintenance!) but for the production of hormones and neurotransmitters, and overall health in general.
This echoes what many longevity experts have been saying: the old recommended dietary allowances (RDAs) were designed to prevent deficiencies, not to optimize health.
Of course there are a couple of caveats here. While the interest in optimizing our protein intake is admirable, some folks may be over-estimating their needs, especially in the face of so much media coverage saying we don't get enough. The nutritionists we spoke to confirmed that overestimation does indeed happen, but much more worrisome-- and much more common-- is for people to underestimate how much protein they actually need for an active, balanced life.
So in general, a reassessment of our protein needs in view of all that we now know about protein, muscle, health and longevity is quite justified. Which brings us to the second caveat.
With all the benefits protein offers, "a good source of fiber" is not one of them.
The truth is that animal-based protein sources—like meat, fish, poultry, and eggs—contain zero grams of fiber. And while plant-based protein sources like beans, lentils, and whole grains do contain fiber, they're often lower in protein density or require much larger portions to meet high protein goals.
The Fiber Gap and Why It Matters
Fiber is essential not just for digestion, but for supporting a healthy gut, which it does by promoting beneficial gut bacteria, the same kind of microorganisms we get when we eat a fermented food like yogurt. These beneficial gut bacteria – a famous example of which is Lactobacillus acidophilus--are the heroes of the gut microbiome. When we nourish them with fiber, particularly with a rich diversity of plant fibers—we keep the microbiome balanced and flourishing.
What's in it for us? Beneficial gut bacteria—indeed an overall healthy gut--- plays a role in immunity, inflammation, and even mood. Not to mention weight.
In numerous epidemiological studies, high-fiber diets have generally been associated with healthier outcomes. They've also been associated with better weight outcomes. In fact, in the early 1990's, pre-internet, there was a popular diet making the rounds among elite personal trainers called the PFF diet. PFF stood for Protein, Fat and Fiber. Interestingly, decades after that diet has been forgotten, that combination still forms the backbone of many well-known diet programs.
The point is, we can (and should) absolutely re-evaluate our own individual protein needs for optimal health. But we don't have to sacrifice our fiber intake to do so.
Fiber is the way we "water" that garden called the microbiome, and our concern is that as people rightly focus on reassessing their protein needs, fiber can often go overlooked, unintentionally widening the "fiber gap" in their diets.
As we've outlined, for those embracing a high-protein approach, meeting fiber needs becomes even more important. Without fiber, high-protein diets can lead to sluggish digestion and a stunning lack of microbiome diversity, which is exactly what we do not want.
Fortunately, fiber can easily be brought back into balance with a few small dietary shifts.
Meet WellVine™: A Real-Food Solution for Filling the Fiber Gap
For those looking to increase their fiber intake while keeping up with protein goals, WellVine offers an elegant solution. Made entirely from the nutrient-rich marc of coastal Chardonnay grapes, WellVine is rich in oligosaccharides—natural, prebiotic soluble fibers, exactly the kind that help feed the beneficial bacteria in the gut.
This unique prebiotic fiber blend is sourced from the skins, seeds, and stems of Chardonnay grapes grown in the extreme climates of coastal vineyards, where the plant naturally develops robust plant compounds—known generally as polyphenols-- for resilience.
WellVine's oligosaccharides support the gut microbiome, promoting digestion and a balanced ecosystem of bacteria. These benefits make it an ideal fiber source to round out protein-focused diets, providing the diversity and prebiotic support that high-protein diets often lack.
Bringing It All Together: A Balanced Approach to Protein and Fiber
While protein is essential, balance is key to a truly health-supportive diet. As high-protein diets continue to trend, it's worth considering how to complement them with fiber-rich additions like WellVine™, ensuring that your diet supports not only muscle maintenance but also a vibrant and healthy gut.
By pairing protein with fiber, you're giving your body the fuel it needs to thrive from the inside out.

According to Harris Tweed themselves, it’s all handwoven in private houses (and according to other sources this is required by law). If that’s true it can’t be machine woven (machinery would be too bulky for a private residence). Any chance you’re thinking of the foot operated treadle looms as machinery or is there other reason to say the manufacturing method has changed?
(In case anyone is wondering the sources confirm they do use a variety of Scottish wool for the tweed.)
Also trademark protections for crafts in the European Union—including fabrics—will have an application process opening up in December next year.
I’m not surprised he didn’t know because, while the legislation was proposed in 2020, there was not a lot of media or professional coverage until November 2023, weeks after it passed. Hopefully, it finally puts to bed a contentious European discussion about “how and when to protect crafts”.
(I only know about the GICI rollout because I have been trying to research this topic since 2021 because a bunch of hinky things are going on around European craft conventions and consumerism.)
The answer to "What the h*ck goes on on those islands to the North and West of mainland Scotland?" by Derek Guy @/dieworkwear on twitter [x]
#fashion#correcting information#fiber arts#before 2023 anyone with interest in fiber arts would look up the state of legal protections for craft in the EU and be… taken aback#like everyone was arguing what the legal protections should look like and who they should protect#no sign that the CIGI was on the horizon#(fabrics and crafts are important cultural and industrial heritage in many many European countries)#however currently basically haute couture is a protected term#but only because fashion houses have the money and clout to self-regulate and enforce regulations#like the haute couture system is independent whether it should be or not because the government did not choose to do it#and unfortunately when they were established there weren’t many trades left that had the money desire independence and support#to do the same#(although it had previously been tried with several different types of lace and more)#also let me clarify: no sign to the casual observer that CIGI was on the way#I imagine if people somehow became familiar with the legislation it was easier to follow its process of passing#also I literally spent time researching these tags because I want to try as much as possible to avoid those kinds of ‘#‘could have looked it up’ mistakes#anyway this is why I say I am desperate to have people include sources#asking in good faith because sometimes crafts do change manufacturing processes without… letting anyone know#but given it’s overseen by specific laws and regulations I do think there needs to be a source or something of them not handweaving it#source picture interview etc

Mastering Blood Sugar Control: Strategies for a Healthier Life
Maintaining stable blood sugar levels is crucial for overall health and well-being. Fluctuations in blood glucose can lead to a range of health issues, from fatigue and irritability to more severe conditions like diabetes. Here’s a comprehensive guide to mastering blood sugar control through diet, exercise, and lifestyle changes.Understanding Blood SugarBlood sugar, or blood glucose, is the amount of glucose present in the blood. It’s a primary energy source for the body, but maintaining it within a healthy range is essential. Blood sugar levels are influenced by the food we eat, how we exercise, and various physiological factors.1. Balanced DietA balanced diet is the cornerstone of effective blood sugar management. Focus on these dietary principles:Choose Low Glycemic Index Foods: Foods with a low glycemic index (GI) release glucose slowly into the bloodstream, helping to maintain stable blood sugar levels. Examples include whole grains, legumes, and most vegetables.Incorporate Fiber: Fiber slows the absorption of sugar, which helps in controlling blood glucose levels. Opt for fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes.Control Portion Sizes: Eating large portions can lead to spikes in blood sugar. Use smaller plates and be mindful of serving sizes.Limit Sugary Foods and Drinks: Reduce the intake of foods and beverages high in added sugars, like sodas, candy, and baked goods.2. Regular ExercisePhysical activity is vital for blood sugar control. Here’s how exercise helps:Improves Insulin Sensitivity: Regular exercise makes cells more responsive to insulin, which helps in managing blood sugar levels.Aids in Weight Management: Maintaining a healthy weight through exercise can improve blood glucose control and reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.Enhances Overall Health: Exercise supports cardiovascular health, reduces stress, and boosts mood.Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise per week, such as brisk walking, swimming, or cycling.3. Consistent Meal TimingEating meals at regular intervals helps in stabilizing blood sugar levels.Don't Skip Meals: Skipping meals can lead to blood sugar drops or spikes. Aim to eat every 3-4 hours.Balanced Meals: Each meal should include a mix of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats to provide a steady source of energy.4. Stress ManagementChronic stress can affect blood sugar levels. Incorporate stress-reducing techniques into your routine:Practice Relaxation Techniques: Techniques such as meditation, deep breathing, and yoga can help manage stress.Get Adequate Sleep: Aim for 7-9 hours of quality sleep per night to support overall health and blood sugar regulation.5. Monitor Blood Sugar LevelsRegular monitoring helps you understand how different foods and activities affect your blood sugar levels.Use a Glucometer: Track your blood sugar levels as recommended by your healthcare provider.Keep a Log: Record your blood sugar readings along with information about your diet, exercise, and any symptoms you experience.6. Seek Professional GuidanceConsult with a healthcare provider or a registered dietitian to create a personalized blood sugar management plan. They can provide tailored advice based on your specific health needs.ConclusionEffective blood sugar control is achievable through a combination of a balanced diet, regular exercise, consistent meal timing, stress management, and diligent monitoring. By adopting these practices, you can maintain stable blood sugar levels and support your overall health. Remember, individual needs may vary, so working with a healthcare professional is essential for developing a plan that works best for you. Blood Sugar Control: Strategies for a Healthier Life

Not A Joke, Not Unreality:
A company called Quantum Fiber (under Century Link) recently set up my home town for fiber optic internet. I got them a month ago and aside from a few outages it was decent.
Last week, it went out. They sent me a super specific time it would be back-
They failed to make it and sent another, minutes later.
And another when that failed.
And over the week, more and more.
I called and they just read me the same email out loud. They offered no escalation or resources. Every time, they fail. I have not had internet for my house in a week, and this morning I got this one-
I looked into other people having the same problem and found this-
Edit forgot link
That's not something called a "766" line, that's them fucking up my city 766 times. This company is fucking shit, and I'm sick of this. I've filed an FCC complaint but those take a month to even get a reply.
So I'm hoping my 173,365 followers can help make this show of their ineptitude and callousness go viral. Please.
They are in a time of massive expansion into many new states and cities. I am asking anyone so inclined with a few minutes to spare to find your town or state's government information technology office or liaison, or just a local government representative of any kind, and write them a quick note stating that this company destroys town utilities and offers absolute frustrating failures of service in return.
If you have Quantum Fiber and have been similarly failed by them, please file an FCC complaint. You might at least get a free month out of it.
If you work with a news source or popular blog, please boost this however you can.
If you are on any app on which they are present, please feel free to write or tag them and let them know they have failed their customers and cities they work with.
Please do not engage in threats or harassment of any form. Keep this legal, civil, and proper so that it can create a legal basis and record of good citizen interaction on the part of this company's victims. I am asking for help in a grassroots campaign, not a violent or prank-filled heap that just gets people in trouble. AND DO NOT FOR ANY REASON EVER PESTER THE WORKERS, PHONE REPS AND TECHNICIANS THEY HAVE OUT THERE. This is the corporation's fault, not the poor folks they employ who they likely try to make take the backlash.
If you have any other ideas on how to hold a mega-corp responsible for the shit they put their customers through, please comment and recommend. I am sick of this shit. I know there are worse things happening and even worse companies doing horrid things right now. But maybe this one is new/small enough that a viral campaign can kick them where it hurts and get them to act more responsibly to their customers and safely to the places they work.
Please help if you have time. Please spread this in the hopes they see it and get off their butts and fix their horrible shit. Any random reblog or post on any platform might be the one their investors hear of.
Thank you anyone for anything you can do.
-Ari

While researching for upcoming fish facts I ended up going down a rabbit hole on parrotfish teeth, and I need to share this information in another form than just a fish fact. This stuff is unbelievable. You know the beak of the parrotfish, right? It's formed from the fused teeth of the parrotfish, as an adaptation to have ample biting surface to scrape off and chew on coral, their main food source.
A close-up of the beak of a parrotfish. It has this honeycomb pattern which I find very cool.
Well. To constantly chew on coral, they must have some pretty hard teeth, right? And they indeed do: the teeth of the parrotfish are made up of a mineral called fluorapatite, which forms intricate, chainmail-like woven structures on a microscopic level. Fluorapatite just so happens to be the second hardest biomineral found. This stuff, the parrotfish's teeth? A square inch of the parrotfish's teeth can withstand a whopping 530 TONS OF PRESSURE!!! That's the weight of 88 ELEPHANTS on top of a single square inch!!!! That's crazy, right!!?? The only biomineral that is tougher is the teeth of chitons, that is the single tougher biological thing in the whole world!!! Not only that, but the stiffness and hardness of the teeth increases the more we get closer to the tip (as the mineral fibers get closer and closer to one another), the very tips of the teeth even surpass the chiton teeth in stiffness!!!
Here are pictures produced through a process called PIC mapping, which shows the size and orientation of crystal fibers at the tip of the teeth.
That feels like it shouldn't be right, no? You'd think that the toughest biominerals in the world would belong to, like, the skull of an animal that rams into rocks or maybe the shell of some animal, not the teeth! The teeth of chitons and parrotfish out of all animals no less! Who would've guessed that the diet of "rock animal" would make the parrotfish require some of the toughest dentition the world has ever seen, huh? That right there is one super good reason why you should never stick your finger in the mouth of one.
Every day I am blown away by how amazing fishes are....

taking control of ur wellness (tips and tricks to be ur healthiest most vibrant you)⋆.ೃ࿔*:・✍🏽🌸
you must treat ur body like the temple that it is. love every inch of urself and out of love for urself, take good care of it. in this post we'll explore how to take control of ur wellness and overall take better care of urself from the inside out…💬🎀
THE MAINTENANCE ;
maintaining ur health by taking supplements is something that i do and its made a big difference in my health. because im taking my vitamins and supplements i feel a lot better and i dont get sick often at all.
♡ invest in a cute vitamin box to inspire u to take ur vitamins
i take a daily multivitamin in the morning and at night i take magnesium + D3 because its helped me fix my sleep schedule and just have better quality of sleep. plus its a better alternative to melatonin ᡣ𐭩 •。ꪆৎ ˚⋅✍🏽
DISCLAIMER : its crucial for u to do ur own research when it comes to ur health so make sure that u do that before applying anything that u learn on the internet for ur own safety!…💬🎀
♡ chia seed water every morning
make sure that ur not consuming more than 1-2 tbsp of chia seeds a day but i put 2 tablespoons of chia seeds in my water every morning cuz its an amazing source of fiber, and they're rich in omega-3 fatty acids and other vitamins and minerals.
♡ if im experiencing inflammation i'll take some warm water, turmeric and some lemon
♡ chlorophyll water (bonus points if u add a lemon wedge)
chlorophyll is an internal deodorizer! it helps to detoxify the body by binding to and eliminating toxins, heavy metals, and harmful substances. it also helps with skin concerns like acne 💕
♡ dry brushing
dry brushing is something else that i do that has an impact on my health. dry brushing unclogs pores in the exfoliation process. it also helps detoxify your skin by increasing blood circulation and promoting lymph flow/drainage. so not only am i exfoliating for softer more princessy skin, im also promoting my lymph flow and increasing my blood circulation.
THE IMPORTANCE OF HYDRATION ;
i know everyone always talks about how important it is to drink water and its lowkey overdone but its TRUE. water is so SO important. if u have difficulty drinking enough water invest in a cute water bottle with a straw. i say with a straw cuz i feel like personally, im more inclined to drink water if its out of a straw.
YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT ;
when ur eating, try focusing on how the food ur eating is making you feel. everyones body responds differently to different foods so by noticing how u feel after eating something, you can have a better idea of what u should continue eating and what u should steer clear of. with that being said, lets get into this section. 🗒️
something else that i wanted to yap about in this section is that there is a difference between restricting urself and self control. eating shouldn't be bringing u anxiety and ur allowed to let urself live. so eat to feel satiated and happy, dont eat to the point where you feel sick and like u can barely move.
something that has helped me be more conscious of what im choosing to fuel my body with is the 80-20 rule. choose the healthier option 80% of the time and the 20% of the time eat yummy pastries and cakes 💕
if ur someone who has difficulty eating vegetables, try cooking them in a different way and seasoning them adequately to make them yummy, masking them in different dishes. OR if that doesnt work for u get ur veggies in smoothies. cuz u gotta get in some fruits and vegetables.
im someone who loves to have a fun drink in the mornings and during the day so i've been super obsessed with making my own smoothies. my smoothie formula is super simple and it has never failed me.
(1-2 fruits + collagen powder/protein powder + almond milk + a bit of honey/maple syrup + ice)…💬🎀
some more wellness drinks and juicing recipes →
♡ apple + lemon + kale + honey + water
♡ grapefruit + lemon + kale + water
ALL ABOUT PROBIOTICS ;
probiotics are the good bacteria that live in your gut, working hard to keep your digestive system balanced and healthy. SO if you’re dealing with bloating, fatigue, or even skin issues, it might be time to show your gut some love.
♡ kimchi
♡ greek yogurt
♡ kefir
♡ pickles
♡ kombucha
MOVING YOUR BODY ;
moving ur body is also super duper important, not only for ur physical well being but also for ur mental wellbeing so make sure that ur getting physical activity every single day.
whether thats going to the gym, stretching, playing a sport, going on walks, dancing etc. there are literally SO many ways that u can move ur body and enjoy urself ᡣ𐭩 •。ꪆৎ ˚⋅ some things that i like to do to stay active are →
♡ dancing ♡ stretching ♡ jump-roping (my favorite) ♡ walking
the trick to this is using the stair master machine OR if u dont have one in ur gym, u can just go on the treadmill at an incline for like 30 minutes or however long u can, and putting ur hands up to ur head and keeping ur posture straight. aim for at least a 5-10% incline, but you can go higher depending on your fitness level…💬🎀
or ofc u can go on walks with ur pet or ✨hot girl walks✨ and walk while listening to a podcast, literally whatever u prefer.
♡ pilates/workouts that i can follow along with on youtube
a fun way to keep track of the workouts that u consistently do is to make a workout book like i did. that way i can have everything at my fingertips right when i need it 💕🗒️
