Ares (proudly): Phobos, Deimos, meet your Auntie Athena!
Athena (staring at the twins): They're very...squishy.
Ares: They have their mother's eyes.
Athena: I guess.
Ares: Want to hold Phobos while I hold Deimos?
(Athena awkwardly accepts the baby)
Ares (worried): Try to cradle the head.
(Athena struggles)
Ares: No, cradle it. Don't do...whatever that is.
(Phobos cries)
Athena (concerned): Why won't he stop?
Ares: He probably needs to be burped. Just pat his back.
(Athena attempts and Phobos cries harder)
Ares: GENTLY, Athena. Geez.
(Frustrated, Athena tries turning him upside down)
Ares (horrified): What are you doing?!
Athena (panicking): I don't know!

Now I'm high on caffeine so random thoughts hits me again. love in paradise Athena dives into Odysseus memories if I remember it correctly? Eh seems like so, and see all the sht he went through. If Athena flew and dive around so gracefully like an owl , I like to think that in Are's case the part of "let's see where you been" It would be him jump down and punching through Penelope's memory with it shattered like in glass shades and each ones he went through he just keep on punching until he landed right on the last remains of the boat trying to look for Penelope. I try not to say that opinions or criticism is ever invalid because I don’t rlly think it’s my place to decide that, but I genuinely don’t understand the “how could Odysseus defeat Poseidon as a mortal?” argument. the gods aren’t some invincible divine being that no man could ever hold a candle to??
diomedes, odysseus’ bestie in the iliad, quite literally stabs BOTH aphrodite and ares with his spear which causes them to run away back to olympus (and refuse to rejoin the fight!!!), and apollo had to bat patroclus away from scaling the walls of troy like four times before he backed off (which shows how strong a mortal man’s determination can be). neither of these men were divine!!! they were just fierce warriors!!!!
the gods are absolutely powerful but it is NOT that insane to say that odysseus could have severely weakened poseidon with his sword 😭
#also yes ik that athena helped diomedes stab ares but still#I was gonna wait to put this in my long ass ‘in the defense of the jetpack’ post whenever that ends up being finished#but every time I think about this argument it just confuses me#why are ppl so convinced that this doesn’t make sense#even ignoring the fact that Jorge’s worldbuilding can be different to the actual myths#I feel like y’all just see all gods in the same vein as the christian god that just isn’t the case#my post#epic#epic the musical#epic the vengeance saga#epic odysseus#epic poseidon#epic the musical vengeance saga

The Gods During the Ithaca Saga
Aphrodite: Ares, come here! I think it's about to get violent! Ares: Yesss! *kisses Aphrodite and settles down on the couch* Aphrodite: How is Athena? Ares: Still really injured. Aphrodite: It's a good thing she didn't know what Poseidon was plotting she would have started to seize again Ares: Thank gods, Hades tipped me off. And not her. Ares: *watching "Odysseus" with pure joy and esc*
Aphrodite: *watching "I Can't Help But Wonder"*
Odysseus: Show yourself, I know you're watching me show yourself
Ares: No . . . She better not be!
Athena: *hugs ody*
Ares: WTF! She's not healed yet! I'm gonn-
Aphrodite: Wait give her a minute!
Odysseus: *Hugs her back and breaks down in her arms while she strokes his hair and comforts him and all that*
Aphrodite: Awwww!
Athena: *passes out after Ody goes to see Penelope*
Aphrodite: Okay, now go get Apollo!
Ares: *returns to find Aphrodite "ugly" crying to "Would You Fall in Love with Me Again"*
Ares: *goes and kisses Aphrodite on the cheek and holds her as she cries*

Now I just picture Ody and warrior!Penelope both trying to awkwardly flirt with Owl's on their shoulders.
Odysseus: You, uh, you have an owl too, huh?
Penelope: Yes! Owls are-are so great! I-I love owls.
Odysseus: I love owls too!
Athena's thoughts: Sweet Protogenoi, I'm a virgin, and even i can tell they're blowing this.
I like the implication that Penny and Ody, two certifiable smartypants both by ancient greek and modern standards, look at the owls on their shoulders and think "thats totally normal :D"
Meanwhile Ares and Athena are over here trying so hard not to cringe at the teenage sweetness/awkwardness

I’ve grown really attached to the idea of Athena being a mentor figure to Ares.
She taught him how to hold a spear, how to use an enemy’s weakness against them, how to win a war the most effective way, and he hung onto her every word.
His first battle comes, and he becomes so drunk on the bloodlust and violence that he forgets all of Athena’s teachings, and decides this is the path he wants to go on.
That’s when their relationship becomes strained; they’re always fighting on opposite sides, but they still remember those times before Ares became the God of War.
And they’ll always cherish those memories.
#greek mythology#greek myths#greek gods#athena#ares#probably go into more detail about this at some point#but seriously you have no idea how important their relationship is to me#they have quite a few interactions in my story so far I just can’t stop myself#I actually need help at this point these two war gods have taken over my brain

Ok long yap but I wanna write a camp halfblood au for bsd so bad askljalsdj bc hear me out yosano daughter of hades grows up in an orphanage (run by fukazawa, who acts as chiron in this au just like chiron works at percy's school trying to keep an eye on yosano) and ranpo grows up in the same orphanage, but ranpo is a mortal who can see through the mist. and like yk how sally was at risk for monster attacks bc of how much time she spent with percy despite being human? the same thing applies to ranpo. So when fukuzawa needs to take yosano to camp halfblood for her own safety he takes ranpo too, who just says he was "claimed" before they reached camp-halfblood to keep the "he doesn't have an ability but he acts like he does" vibes
Back at camp halfblood we've got Poe, son of athena who arrived at camp halfblood after his uncle decided he couldn't deal with the demigod stuff (his dad was already dead atp), and lucy who arrived a year before yosano and ranpo with louisa and is a daughter of Hephaestus who makes giant bronze battle statues like the ones across manhattan in the pjo series that look like Anne from Anne's room
Louisa is also a younger daughter of athena ofc
We've also got Dazai as a son of Dionysus with his laid-back but manipulative vibes and Chuuya son of ares (I don't wanna make them children of the big three bc I'd want Atsushi to have that) with Kouyou and Verlaine also children of Ares w him, and then Atsushi is a son of zeus and akutagawa and gin are children of hermes (so akutagawa feels inferior like a lot of the kids of hermes do in canon bc their abilities aren't really combat focused)
Kenji son of demeter, obviously, Kyouka hunter of artemis and tanizaki is a mentee of hecate (which was established by hazel as a thing in the 2nd series) with Naomi being a prophet like rachel?? Kunikida is an apollo kid who utilizes poetry and appreciates rising with the sun (hes a pretty unusual child of apollo which makes dazai try and get him to loosen up) and he's head of the cabin and takes very good care of the younger campers
But like??? It works??? ive been thinking about this au so much im obsessedddd if I wrote it it probably wouldn't be like pjo canon compliant just using the camp as an au but i think it would be so much fun aslkjalksdjka
#ranpo claims to be a son of iacchus or despoina who are minor gods related to the eleusinian mysteries#but that is subject to change#i just love the idea of lucy making giant ragdoll-looking bronze statues that fight for her#she is banned from using them during capture the flag#id have to switch up their ages a bit but id probably keep age groups the same so ranpo and poe similar age#and lucy atsushi louisa etc same age#something like that#i love the idea of son of dionysus dazai but i could also see son of hermes so akutagawa has even more of a reason to look up to him#also yosano would be getting her spotlight which i love#shes a daughter of hades but forces her way into the infirmary because dammit shes gonna be a doctor one way or another#plus kunikida being a son of apollo means he probably helps yosano become a healer#sigma and ango are also children of athena btw#and i love kouyou daughter of ares i think it would be so cool#plus maybe verlaine and rimbaud get their tragic backstory on the way to camp halfblood#like how thalia sacrifices herself for annabeth grover and luke to get to the camp#maybe thats how they got chuuya there or something#ok ill probably yap more about this eventually but i need to stop clogging the tags lmao#bungou stray dogs#bsd yosano#bsd ranpoe#bsd poe#bsd lucy#armed detective agency#port mafia#ranpoe#camp halfblood au

Athena: Ares, have you had a candy called Warheads?
Ares (suspiciously): Are you messing with me right now?
Athena: I'm being completely serious.
Ares (equally shocked and overjoyed): Really?!!
Athena (makes a bag appear): Try one.
Ares (eats it): So sour. You have to be courageous to eat these... I love them! (Devious) I bet I can eat more than you can.
Athena: I didn't necessarily tell you about them to start an eating competition.
Ares (downs another handful): Tastes like victory!
Athena:...(makes a bag appear for herself) That's what you think!

ARES

WHO IS HE?
Ares is the Greek god of war, and battle, courage, war booty, city defence, anger and violence, civil order, virility, and courage and fear. He is one of the Twelve Olympians, and the son of Zeus and Hera. The Greeks were ambivalent towards him. He embodies the physical valor necessary for success in war but can also personify sheer brutality and bloodlust, in contrast to his sister Athena, whose martial functions include military strategy and generalship. An association with Ares endows places, objects, and other deities with a savage, dangerous, or militarized quality.
BASIC INFO:
Appearance: Ares is often depicted as a strong and muscular man, with a stern and intimidating demeanor. He is often portrayed wearing armour, carrying a shield, and carrying a sword, representing his role as the god of war, battle, courage, war booty, anger and violence. His eyes are said to be fiery and piercing, and he often has a stern and fearsome expression on his face. His hair is typically depicted as dark and wild, adding to his fierce appearance.
Personality: he is known for being a hot-tempered, aggressive, and warlike god. He is also known for his impetuous and impatient nature, often acting without thinking things through. However, despite this, he is also seen as a protector of the weak and oppressed and is often depicted as being a champion of the downtrodden. When it comes to his devotees, Ares is often portrayed as being a loyal and protective patron, guiding them in battle and giving them strength and courage. He is also known for rewarding his followers with victory and honour in combat.
Symbols: sword, chariot, torch, shield, spear, helmet, and iron
God of: war and battle, courage, war booty, city defence, anger and violence, civil order, virility, and fear
Culture: Greek
Plants: thorns, basil, peppers, chilli, garlic, buttercup, yarrow, ginger, and paprika
Crystals: onyx, bloodstone, garnet, red beryl, mugglestone, crocidolite, tektite, Picasso jasper, ruby, and crocoite
Animals: venomous serpents, boar, vultures, eagle owl, woodpeckers, horses, barn owls, and dogs
Incense: dragon’s blood, frankincense, sandalwood, and other strong/spicy scents
Practices: healing (especially from being in the army, witnessing wars, etc), protection, war magick, anger management, shadow work, courage and confidence rituals, and strength
Colours: red, purple, grey, black, and gold
Number: 4
Zodiac: Aries
Tarot: The Emperor, The Chariot, The Tower, Suit of Wands, Death, and King of Wands
Planet: Mars
Days: Tuesday and Ares Gynaecothenas
Parents: Zeus and Hera
Siblings: Eris, Hephaestus, Eileithyia, Hebe, and several paternal half-siblings
Partner: Aphrodite (unmarried)
Children: Eros, Anteros, Phobos, Deimos, Phlegyas, Harmonia, Enyalius, Meleagros, Kyknos, Thrax, Oenomaus, Cycnus, and the Amazons
MISC:
Horses: the epithet of the Ares worshiped at Olympia was “Hippios”, “of horses”. Ares was the progenitor of the man-eating mares of Thracian Diomedes. While they are often associated with Poseidon, Ares was often the patron of horse and chariot races, especially onward into Roman times.
The colours red and purple: the colour red is often associated with Ares for two reasons: blood and Sparta. The blood of men is Ares’s food, and his shield was described as always being fresh with gore, so it’s pretty safe to assume Ares was very red and/or brownish red most of the time. His planet, Mars, is the red planet. Now purple may not seem to be very intuitive, but the Thracian warriors and priests wore purple, as did the later Roman emperors, who were always priests of Ares/Mars if not conflated into the same being.
War: in Greek mythology, Ares is associated with war because he is the god of war. He is the son of Zeus and Hera, and is often portrayed as a fierce and violent god, who delights in battle and bloodshed. He is often depicted as leading the gods into battle and fighting alongside them. He is also known for his role in mythological tales such as the Trojan War, where he is depicted as inciting the Greeks to war and arming them for battle. Ares is also associated with the darker and more destructive aspects of war, such as brutality and violence.
Sword: Ares is often associated with swords because in ancient Greece, swords were a common weapon of war and were often used in combat. As the god of war, Ares is often depicted wielding a sword in battle. In Greek mythology, swords were often associated with victory and strength, so it makes sense that Ares, the god of war, would be associated with them. Additionally, swords are symbols of power and authority, which further reinforces Ares’ status as the god of war.
Mars: in Greco-Roman mythology, the Roman god Mars is considered as the equivalent of the Greek god Ares. This equivalence is due to the similarities between the two gods, both being associated with war, military strength, and masculine pursuits. The Romans adopted many aspects of Greek culture, including their gods, and over time the Greek god Ares was equated and syncretized with the Roman god Mars. This led to the Romans viewing Mars as the equivalent of the Greek god of war.
Chariot: the chariot often represents power, authority, and conquest. Since Ares/Mars are the gods of war, they were often depicted driving a chariot, which was a sign of their status as powerful and influential beings. The chariot was also a symbol of speed and mobility, allowing the gods to rapidly move from one battlefield to another and oversee the course of conflicts.
FACTS ABOUT ARES:
Some cities in Greece and several in Asia Minor held annual festivals to bind and detain him as their protector. In parts of Asia Minor, he was an oracular deity.
Ares was caught in an invisible net by the god, Hephaestus, whilst committing adultery with the god’s wife, Aphrodite.
He assisted the Trojan armies in their war against the Greeks, but was wounded in an encounter with the hero Diomedes and the goddess Athena.
Ares bestowed a “manly” spirit upon his daughters, the warrior Amazons.
He is associated with the vulture, eagle owl, barn owl, and woodpecker because he created them with the help of Hermes.
HOW TO INVOKE ARES:
To invoke Ares, try using unique methods such as creating a personalized altars or ritual space dedicated to him, incorporating elements that you feel connected to. Use unconventional symbols such as a sword, the color red, or a picture or statue of a warrior that you feel represents him. During the invocation, instead of traditional methods, try using breathwork or energy work to connect with his presence. You can also use personalized words and/or symbols as part of your invocation. Most importantly, be original and authentic, and focus on connecting with Ares in a way that feels right for you.
