I think about the creator of Naruto. I don't know for sure, but I heard that he had an arc for her and threw it away. He listened to his fans (I don't remember what they wanted exactly) and gave less time on Sakura—or something decremented Sakura's character in some way—and it resulted in Sakura being hated.
I seen a video talking about Naruto with this exact premise as well. No wonder people shipped Naruto and Sasuke over Sasuke and Sakura.
It just kills me when writers create franchises where like 95% of the speaking roles are male, then get morally offended that all of the popular ships are gay. It’s like, what did they expect?

when people try to argue that feminism is unnecessary, western import for bourgeoise women, that the wage gap doesn't exist, that civilisations are built solely by men in construction doing hard labour while the women are at home, show them the impoverished female bricklayers of India, who are 49% of the second largest industry (after agriculture) of 40 million constructors, and get paid less for equal work ($7/day for men, $4/day for women) because of gender discrimination and exploited due to being poor, illiterate, debt trapped, facing gender based setbacks (not being promoted to masonry or carpentry like men) and being unaware of their union rights
this work in general is exploitative, getting paid pennies on the dollar while corporations that build their mega complexes rake in millions, hazardous to health, no safety equipment, regulations, breathing in fine dust and construction pollution for both men and women. but women in particular face gender based discrimination such as getting paid a lower raw wage and lack of opportunities to get promoted from this heavy duty scaffolding work, in fact they often do more work than the men but aren't respected by their male peers. and the idea that only men historically have done hard labour, built civilisations is a false myth that erases the plight of the millions of women in the Global South.
#workers rights are women's rights#the feminism and discourse on tumblr exhaustively only focuses on women in the west#the 'men built civilisations' is a white supremacist and oft gender bioessntialist rhetoric#if you see these women carrying 20kg bricks on their head in sweltering hot sun and still believe in biological superiority thats your prob#this isn't a slay girlboss post but a reminder that women have and do exist in every workplace and how important the feminist struggle is#feminism#bricklayers and construction

Makeup-free women, please help!!
So I haven't worn makeup in years, and I don't know if I should break that streak for my job interview tomorrow. Unfortunately, I know that people are subconsciously primed to view makeup-free women as less professional. I am desperate to end my unemployment before my severance payments run out, and I'm debating playing the game and just wearing makeup to increase my chances. But also, the thought of putting makeup on after so long hurts in a way that I don't have adequate words for and feels a little like comprising my ideals. What would you do?

Something I've noticed throughout various retail jobs I've worked is the difference in how staff are treated by management based on gender. Even when management are female, I still notice that more is expected out of women than men. The men get away with not pulling their weight, meanwhile a woman will simply stop and ask her coworker how her weekend was and get scolded for talking and told to get back to work. Men can get away with barely even looking at customers they're serving, whereas women will be perfectly polite and friendly, but get told off for not smiling enough. I've seen male coworkers get promoted despite literally doing nothing but fuck around with other men we work with all day, meanwhile, their female coworkers end up picking up their slack. If they don't, then they're usually getting blamed for stuff not getting done because management expect so much more out of women than they do men.
An example I can think of is the time I had two coworkers who liked to go out partying all the time. Management thought the man coming in hungover and late to every shift was endearing. He never got reprimanded for it. Even when he'd show up two hours late it was okay because "that's just what he's like!" Meanwhile, the female coworker who went out partying would show up on time, be a little hungover but would still do anything that was asked of her, and she was always presentable. Yeah, she got fired for coming in hungover.
Or another one I remember is when a male coworker was on extended sick leave. Management were so worried for him and constantly checking in to make sure he was doing well. A female coworker got diagnosed with a neurological condition and needed some time off work while she adjusted to her medication. She was called dramatic, attention seeking, and no one bothered to check in with how she was doing.
Even on our breaks we aren't free from these weird double standards. I always got snide comments about eating processed food on my break. I'd constantly have people in my ear saying it's bad for me and told I would ruin my body if I kept eating like that (ironically I had a restrictive eating disorder at the time, so I was damaging my body, just not really in the way they were thinking I was). Most of my male coworkers would have eaten similar things, but no one made any comments on their dietary choices.
It's just so insane to me that people pretend that workplace misogyny is a thing of the past, when it very clearly isn't. Male mediocrity gets celebrated, while hard working women never get any recognition.

i’m not a transandrophobia truther in the slightest don’t get me wrong, but i think some people on here really need to realize and comprehend the fact that cis women, way WAY more often than not, hold extremely significant social and political power over trans men the vast majority of the time in our day to day lives
#sorry not to get on this bullshit i just saw a related post when i opened this app lmao#and by some people i don’t mean anyone in particular im not vagueing anyone or any specific post#and i especially don’t mean any transfem calling out transmisogynistic transmascs either#but yeah i see a lot of implication that trans men are like. somehow significantly privileged over cis women#and ofc i don’t mean that transmascs are incapable of being misogynistic to cis women bc that’s far from the case#but i need someone to name a transmasc with significant political or social or financial power that’s working to set back women’s rights#versus the amount of cis women with any of the aforementioned privileges working to take away the rights of trans people#bc i can think of 4 of the latter just off the top of my head without trying really hard#and the only day to day instance i can think of where trans men would hold significant power over a cis woman is like..#a workplace environment where he completely passes as cis and absolutely no one knows he’s trans at all or even suspects it#but then again most if not all of that privilege would be stripped away the second anyone there found out he was trans#but yeah i really do think some people need to grapple with how they conceptualize gendered privilege and their own power in these dynamics#and how that’s reflected in the way they think about/interact with transmascs#are you disgusted with this random transmasc on tumblr because he’s a man (or vaguely adjacent) or because he’s trans. ykwim#and again i hate the whole transandrophobia thing i think it’s stupid as shit and redundant to put it lightly and briefly but#idk why transmascs that believe in it have become the new face of anti-feminism and MRA movements#and not like. the cis men who started both of those things and contribute to the vast majority of that type of rhetoric in every way#and also hold enough power to leverage those beliefs over both women and also transmascs tbh#i think some people are just repulsed by the idea of anyone willingly wanting to be a man bc they see it as the same as becoming a cis man#in terms of privilege. when in reality by being trans you’re knocked down in terms of power and privilege from all cis people anyways#but also. some people also need to realize that transmascs can also have trauma and complicated feelings about being a man and patriarchy#and more often than not we ARE traumatized by the way cis men (and women!!) have treated us#and grapple with our place in the world as a result. it’s not just as simple as becoming a cis man over night tbh!!#and again i’m not talking about transfems with any of this because the vast Vast majority of transfems understand this more than anyone#i’m mostly talking about cis women both irl and also just in the terminally online leftist sphere#and i also think i should be allowed to vent my grievances with the power cis women often do wield over me without being accused of being a#raging misogynist or MRA or whatever

This is a tough question. How can a woman of color react elegantly without compromising her dignity (by playing along with, allowing such behavior) when a white person behaves in an othering/alienating/ignorant manner unintentionally? Especially when everyone else present, within the conversation, knows the behavior is problematic but stays silent and watches.
Hi love! I don't know if I'm the best person to answer this question as a white woman myself (who would never entertain this awful behavior, unless, for some reason, I did not sense the microaggression myself). From the perspective of ways someone could handle this that I would find admirable, I would say the best way to handle this situation is to relay the sentiment said to you back to the microaggressor in a calm, collected manner (e.g. "Thank you. I love the way you have your hair straightened, too. "I think your comment sounded very articulate, too." Acknowledging the comment and its absurdity without saying anything aggressive or unkind).
Please – any black women, BIPOC, or anyone else who has some insight on how to best handle these situations/how you would want them handled, share in the comments/reblogs with your suggestions & best tips. We all should do better xx

Tall Poppy Syndrome
What is that you ask? It’s when a woman succeeds and becomes stand out in her work. Sadly through research it’s been shown that other women also pull their fellow successful women down. You rise quickest by supporting and being proud of others. Many men feel threatened by women being in a higher position than them. This is patriarchy at its worst. Learned and societal behaviour.

Why There’s So Little (Good) Personal Finance for Disabled People
Jess and I are both itching to write more about personal finance for disabled people. We’re also both itching because we have autoimmune disorders. Guys, we’re here! We’re queer! We have two X chromosomes with faulty molecular coatings! Okay, but seriously… we’ve both been sitting on some big ol’ honkin’ article ideas about how disabilities can impact money, jobs, and life in general. Frankly,…

Delusions of Gender, Cordelia Fine, 2010, on hiring bias and discrimination against women and particularly women with children.
"The participants may have felt that they had chosen the right man for the job, when in fact they had chosen the right job criteria for the man."
