oh i kinda hate how leverage: redemption season 2 ends. astrid just believes sophie & says she’s family? i love sophie, and i know what it’s like to hurt someone when acting in self-preservation or fear… but that’s exactly why i think that astrid deserves to feel however she wants to feel about what sophie did. she was sad and angry when we first saw her. she said she’d devoted her life to catching grifters because sophie ruined her and her father’s lives. like… you don’t just get over that in the course of a day! and you shouldn’t have to!
if she wants to forgive sophie, that’s really great too, i’m not against forgiveness lol - but we saw that astrid very much hadn’t forgiven her just hours earlier, and we didn’t get to see astrid express any of that anger & sadness or come to terms with this whole situation at hand. plus the show had been setting up a very emotional arc for sophie & astrid for quite a few episodes, and then we never actually get much of a payoff. and no proper explanation for why she trusts sophie’s plan and doesn’t want to arrest her.
but instead it makes no sense!! and was super crammed for time, which is probably why we didn’t get much of an explanation. we got more of sophie feeling guilty than astrid getting to process & discuss the thing that was done to HER. i loved all the build up to the finale episodes, but not the episodes themselves :( feel free to disagree though, id kinda like to hear more discussion & perspectives on this!
#leverage: redemption#sophie devereaux#astrid pickford#leverageposting#wren speaks#i have a lot of feelings about sophie and astrid and i wish we’d seen more of them actually interacting#and the problem is how much i LIKED this arc for sophie. it felt really true to her character tbh. and we got to see how the bad things tha#happened to her had also filtered down to ppl she cared about and that’s a sadly very realistic thing that happens#and we meet astrid and i’m like oh wow how is this gonna pay off?? and then it really doesn’t!!#not even in a bittersweet ‘sometimes loose ends dont get tied up irl’ way but just in a… ‘ignore that issue’ way#leverage critical#<- only sorta cause i love rhis show but tagging jic

Adult science fiction standalone novel
In near-future America, struggling documentary filmmaker Hayes Figuerido learns that an alternate version of himself from a parallel universe created the Envisioner, a device that can predict the future, and sent it to his reality
When he joins a team of scientists studying the Envisioner, Hayes meets physicist Yusuf and learns the two of them are married in another universe and finds himself falling for Yusuf in this one
As Hayes learns more about the multiverse, however, it becomes clear that while their lives are inextricably linked, their story often ends in tragedy and saving Yusuf could risk the univerise
Explores multiverse theory and questions of how far you will go to save the one you love
Gay main character with depression; Egyptian, Muslim love interest; M/M romance; aromantic asexual Japanese side character
#ooh i read this one a while ago let me try to remember what i thought#i think the first third or so when they're just studying the envisioner and yusuf and hayes are falling in love is a bit slow#enjoyed the multiverse-hopping stuff#some of the filmmaker stuff like envisioning the world as a script got a little tedious#well fleshed-out protagonist who feels very realistic and flawed#also i liked yusuf#i have seen at least one review by an autistic reader saying they read him as autistic#the aroace representation felt a little questionable to me because the character in question is very cold/calculating?#didn't expect that there would be so much world-building around the near-future america setting which was interesting#like androids being common and also an indigenous sovereign state#also there's one world with a movie crew stuck on the moon that i thought was super interesting#the alternate realities are all cool#okay BIG SPOILERS NOW#i was kind of unconvinced by the ending#basically the main character is given the choice between saving yusuf's life and letting an asteroid destroy earth in another reality#he picks yusuf and it like 'now to compartmentalize my horrific guilt and live happily with him'#and i was like. bro. you are going to be eaten alive by guilt in a few years#i don't know i wasn't convinced by it!!#would love to hear thoughts from someone else who has also read this book tbh#a fractured infinity#nathan tavares#2023 reads#books#lulu reads a fractured infinity#lulu speaks#lulu reads

If Jason had been written to have atleast somewhat of a jealousy streak of Percy, then it would have made him more human tbh. Ironically I feel like the fandom would've been much more empathetic to his character, if he acknowledged that he envied Percy a little and then came to terms with it. We know that Jason's fear of being 2nd best is a very integral part of his character, I mean, Gaia taunting him with that in his nightmares was enough to reduce him into tears. and that's the ONLY time we've even remotely seen him cry. Percy had so many things Jason didn't have, a loving mom, a loving girlfriend who took a knife for him and never broke his heart, a loving camp that looked for him endlessly after he went missing, people ACTUALLY wanting him to survive because they care about him not because they need him for glory, etc. and if im being honest Poseidon wasn't even that bad of a father (for a big three god, atleast) tbh he still came to percy's 15th birthday, invited him to fishing, genuinely loved sally, she was probably the only mortal he fell in love with and it stayed that way, he was never rude to percy and stuck up for him etc. not tryna say percy had it easy or anything ofc he didnt, but there is no point in denying that he had a MUCH better support system than jason ever had.
The fact that Jason despite having none of these things was not even remotely envious of Percy made him appear like a bland robot with no emotional baggage
Compare this to Nico, who was rightfully a little jealous/idolizing Percy while simultaneously having a crush on him, also a little jealous of Jason because he was "the golden boy" who everyone respected, it made him have SO much depth and the fandom loves him (rightfully so)
also, leo. He was resentful of Percy up until blood of Olympus because of how everyone loved him, how Calypso fell for him almost immediately, etc. it's very realistic.Jason feeling a little resentful of Percy and then later talking it out would've made his character much less of a shallow stereotypical nice guy that ppl dislike.
maybe Rick could've expanded on Jason's jealousy of how quickly camp Jupiter accepted Percy and how quickly Reyna made him praetor, when jason himself had dedicated his whole life to it and was only made praetor in the last couple months, how camp Jupiter and his supposed friends never held a memorial for him even after they thought he was dead, etc. Also how Percy spent more time with thalia than jason ever did, we know he did feel a little envious since he mentioned how much he wished thalia looked for him the way she was looking for percy
I would've loved to see Jason being a little cold to Reyna too because of this and then they later talk it out, since it's VERY realistic, I was surprised with how quickly jason shrugged the whole Percy- being- a -praetor thing off, I thought he'd have felt a little betrayed by Reyna considering that they were childhood friends, and reyna never really sent a search party or something after him like annabeth did, gods, the amount of angst potential this man had i love him ugh

Ngl, Seven's special was very disappointing :( I just want MC to be loved and cherished without their ROs making them so insecure. Even G and Vic made MC feel important and loved, like they belonged together. And in Seven's it felt like MC didn't fit into their live anymore.
I guess my answer is spoilery so ///
I respect your perspective but I don't think I agree tbh I think Seven making the effort not to be the same overwhelming, intense person they were for their relationship's sake is trying to fit them in their life. Seven could easily revert back to their old ways and become even worse since they lost MC once, I can't imagine Seven being a healthy person to be with due to their intensity. Present Seven trying to be like their old self would probably be far too codependent and extreme out of their fear of losing MC.
The other ROs are making sure MC feels loved and important but they're not fundamentally changing themselves for MC. Seven is going against their nature and their personality to make sure they're a healthier version of themself for MC. And I'm not trying to be like kissing Seven's ass but it's hard to compare ROs who have never had a past relationship with MC to an RO who had one, fell out, and hated them for three years. It's just not as easy and it doesn't feel realistic to me to make it easy. I could've written a short full of fluff and I tried but it felt disingenuous and wasn't what I wanted to do lolol
It's also a non-canon short story that is written with an insecure MC. The point you're supposed to focus on is the message of the story as a hint for the route but everything else is written because it made it easier to convey that message. So MC being insecure isn't a canon thing, it's a Amy-felt-like-writing-mc-that-way thing lol
If you're worried, just reread the last line! You'll get what you're hoping for I promise lolol

Simon Riley x Curly Haired Reader
universally applicable to any curly girly (who wears her hair natural) 😋 pure fluff beautiful beautiful image from @ave661
When you and Simon first started going out, he only ever saw you with straight hair - you were worried about spending the night with him in case he would see your natural hair after a shower, and find it ‘ugly’. It was silly, but it felt like your curls didn’t look like other curls, they were just… a mess. The first time Si saw your natural hair, he was immediately all over you, even though he’d only come round to pick up his phone. He got so distracted by you that he completely ‘forgot’ about the phone, and just had to visit you again the next day to get it.
Simon Riley who loves to sit and watch you doing your hair. If you two have to stay at a hotel for a special event, and he’s ready way before you (his military efficiency), he is very happy to sit on the bed and watch as you try to fix that one curl that won’t curl like the rest of your head. He has NO idea what you’re doing, like, completely clueless, but you look pretty doing it.
Simon Riley who genuinely thinks you’re the prettiest girl he’s ever seen. You’re hot with curly hair, with straight hair, you’d be hot with no hair - he really doesn’t care, he just loves you. That said, he does secretly have a soft spot for your curly hair. Something about the volume and the aura it gives you is so perfect. That’s his girl.
Simon Riley who lets you buy hair products with his money. He doesn’t care, he likes to spoil you, and he doesn’t understand what’s wrong with his 3-in-1 shampoo but he’s happy to indulge his pretty girl if it makes her happy.
Simon Riley who is GREAT at messing up your hair. It feels so nice and he always has to touch it, playing with a strand when you’re sitting on the sofa together or full on gripping it while you’re making out. He’s finally learnt that he can’t just rake his hands through it (once they actually got stuck) but that doesn’t stop him from constantly tucking your hair behind your ear or patting it when he has an arm around you .
Simon Riley who, failing that, loves to smell your hair. You tell him it’s weird but your products just smell so good!!! And they smell like you!! If you’re in the kitchen, he’ll hug you from behind, and (not so) secretly smell your hair as he mumbles something to you about something totally random or about how much he loves you. One or the other.
Simon Riley who hopes that your kids have curly hair just like their mummy. The idea of his girl carrying around a toddler with identical curly hair, in little pigtails or tiny braids, melts his heart. He’s a tough guy almost all of the time, he’d probably intimidate any other guy on the street by his size and general rough attitude but if you gave him a baby girl that looked just like you, he would be totally devoted. He’d even let her try to put pink hair clips in his short hair, or draw on his tattooed arms. The idea of watching you do your baby’s hair for them melts his heart.
Simon Riley with whom you once tried to do that cute couple thing where you draw each other, and though you did your best to make a realistic drawing of him, he drew you as a stick figure with loopy squiggles for hair and little hearts around you. He was really proud of it, too. Says he hopes your kids don’t inherit his artistic talent.
i don’t know how many cod girlies have curly hair but i do!!! i wish i had a man to buy me nice products tbh

Do you think best friend!felix would kiss the reader “for fun” but really…
hm. good question bc i really had to think about this bc if anyone can get away with platonically kissing someone it's 110% felix, and it does feel in character
i was on the fence until i remembered that the first (and only) guy i dated started off as a really good friend and before dating we'd kiss at parties and laugh it off the next day bc of the alcohol/atmosphere so it's very much realistic bc i did not notice for an entire semester😭
so let's discuss!!
felix would definitely hide behind the "for fun" defense by being as casual as possible with it. while out partying/drinking, he'd kiss reader so briefly the reader can barely register what's happening until it's happened. also this is mainly done after a particularly good/happy moment,, maybe after you two take a shot together, with that touch of adrenaline and the sting of alcohol still lingering there. would definitely do this if he felt jealous/saw someone checking out reader.
now, if we're talking actual, more intentional kisses that are harder to explain away....i think these are a definitely a lot rarer, but for sure have happened.
still uses the "for fun" argument if it's a party thing, like if everyone's kissing someone (like a NYE kiss) or it's bc of some party game, then he's lingering/being touchier than usual bc he can get away with it.
also not to take this a step further and make it even more difficult to justify, but i think there's a level of intimacy to it bc felix is so touchy/open with everyone, that eventually the only way to be particularly close to someone is to do more.
so,, and this is definitely the rarest type of kiss ( like it's happened at most 2-3 times) after drinking/smoking together, felix will kiss reader when they're completely alone, with no one to blame or goad you on or interrupt. these are slow and heavy. concentrated.
there's always an emotional component,, maybe reader had been poorly trying to hide their mood because felix had been a little too into being admired recently. or maybe felix feels left out about something and needs to find a way to feel even closer to reader.
after felix is definitely being more open than he usual is, telling you things like "i trust you more than i've ever trusted anyone, you know that right?" and "it's just you and me."
the first time this happened is the first time reader has a oh my god?? do i actually have a thing for felix? moment,, and after felix finally falls asleep, reader freaks out bc what if what happened ruined your friendship?
but then the next morning comes and it's like nothing happened, he doesn't even do that guy thing where they ignore you the next day, it's literally like nothing out of the ordinary happened and out of instinct, reader follows felix's lead
then reader convinces themselves that it's not that weird by telling themselves that felix has probably at least kissed most of the people that are around him for long enough which is kind of true and you know several people that he still hangs out with that he hooks up with on and off,,
so, with the amount of time you spend together,, it isn't strange. not when you know felix the way reader does.
when taylor wrote “and you kiss me in a way that’s going to screw me up forever” it was for felix
----
this might be a little much,, but i can see it for felix tbh 😭
anyways, if anyone's interested in a drabble based on any part of this, lmk!!

what if…here me out on this when the demon bros are having private time MC can feel it because of the pacts, like he can just feel basically everything the demon bros do and they take advantage of the fact that MC can feel what they do (bottom male mc if you write for male mc :3)
This is a very intriguing ask tbh!! And thank you for your ungodly patience.
(I realise it took me a whole week to get this done and I apologise. Please forgive me my beautifully amazing fans.)
{{NSFW - Sexual themes (nothing too bad though!!)}}
When pent up stress needs to be relieved
Lucifer
- Realistically, Lucifer would already know exactly the effect it would have on you. And he had to admit, it thrilled him.
- He would take advantage of it even if he wasn’t aroused - just to see you squirm. Just to see your trousers grow a tent or the desperate messages that would ping on his phone begging for him to stop.
- He’d even dare do it whilst you were hanging out with his brothers to remind you that you were his.
- Oh how the sadistic bastard loved this game.
Mammon
- He would definitely be embarrassed after he wanked off for you to come into his room looking all needy and worked up.
- How was he supposed to explain himself here??
- But then, seeing the look of desire, that flush on your cheeks - well, it overpowered his embarrassment.
- He was always a bit cautious afterwards not to jerk off afterwards - he didn’t want you getting into too much trouble or worse, Lucifer spotting and understanding what happened.
- But, he wouldn’t deny you if you came onto him when he was hard. Oh no. You were in your first man’s arms now.
Leviathan
- Now, after he found out, he was extremely embarrassed and shy. Hell, he ignored you for hours out of shame. Why did he think of you like that?! What right did a dirty otaku like him have?
- But, at the same time, it was nice to see his desire reciprocated. To see you look back at him with the same needy look.
- He probably wouldn’t take advantage of it, but he wouldn’t be against getting you worked up with your consent.
Satan
- The blond would definitely use this as an advantage too. Although much more subtly than Lucifer.
- For example, he’d work himself up a bit but by the time you’d question him, he’d act all coy and have no idea what you’re on about, that polite smile never quite reaching his eyes.
- Overstimulation would definitely be something you should expect. He was a master of pushing boundaries but never breaking them.
Asmodeus
- He would definitely be excited. What else did you expect of the literal Avatar of Lust?
- He’d be down to try anything - hell, he’d probably have you jerk him off just to get yourself hard too. Any idea you proposed just made Asmodeus libido skyrocket.
- Asmo would probably become a lot clingier and whinier too, trying to convince you not to go to student council meetings and spend time with him.
- You met harsh reprimands from Lucifer each time but damn was it worth it.
Beelzebub
- Now, when Beel learned about how he was affecting you he genuinely felt horrible.
- He would get worried and ask about if you were uncomfortable with the thought or not and apologise bashfully for his urges.
- Even despite your reassurances and that you liked it, he always made sure to ask your consent beforehand. He never wanted to take advantage of you and probably never will.
Belphegor
- The sleepy demon would probably be too tired most of the time to take advantage of his effect.
- But, if the occasional mood did strike up, he would make sure you were in public or doing something every time. He just had to torture you with his own arousal and send you pounding up the attic stairs to him.
- Your needy expression and pouts never failed to make him grin. Oh how he did love having a pact with such a powerless human.

could you expand on your thoughts why you think dan and phil havent always been monogamous? super curious! i kind of get the same vibe.
i'm happy to expand on it tbh! it's something i think and talk a lot about with my friends.
i'm hesitant about going in depth because i've found that's when people find it okay to say deeply shitty things to me, a polyamorous person, under the guise of academic debate/it just being a difference of opinion. but i'm also not going to let the possibility of that stop me?
ANYWAYS.
quite honestly the biggest thing for me is just. taking dan and phil at their word? even when parsing something true through them saying things in silly ways that's the easiest way to be right about them.
we noticed and believed in the underlying truth in their gay jokes before they were out. people are willing to entertain the bondage and mpreg and various other horny jokes as containing some kernel of truth. more people than literally any point in time are willing to believe there's some substance to dan's career-long mentions of gender.
but for whatever reason (mononormativity) the comments about them being attracted to/flirting with/being interested in other people get written off as 100% joking and funny because they're the most monogamous people ever & because they get jealous easily. and that just? sucks.
i think they've always been committed. like, phil brought dan home to meet his parents at their very first christmas together type committed. planning to spend the rest of their lives together from 3 months into the relationship committed.
but also like? that coexists with the fact that dan wasn't able to come out to himself as gay until the lead up to basically i'm gay. 2018 or maybe 2017, i think. @freckliephil or @phulge has brought up the idea to me before that part of why they didn't label their relationship to us in 2019 may have been because they were still in flux with labeling it for themselves.
dan has also always had commitment issues due to how he saw his parents' relationship function/due to his home life growing up and i'm NOT going to elaborate on this one but it is so obvious.
(consider this whole post informed by conversations with aries and roper btw).
i think the idea that dan and phil were secure in their connection but not in a place where they had to (or could, on dan's part) ascribe labels to it in the early years is realistic?
and i think their commitment and security can coexist with the idea of like. "i think it's hot seeing you kiss other people for attention at parties and come home with me". + i genuinely think the fantastic foursome explored each other's bodies on the italy trip. etc.
i definitely think there would've been huge stretches of monogamy, and i do think that there was jealousy before they found their footing and felt comfortable in their commitment. (different rant, but i think most of what gets read as jealousy these days is them dong a bit/possessiveness).
but i think there's also always been points in time where they were either theoretically or in practice fine with having sexual experiences with other people. that wouldn't've really been possible during their deep closet era, and i don't think it was COMMON beforehand.
but i also think that it's definitely something possible after they came out.
i think people hear me say this and assume i'm degrading the incredible and beautiful love and commitment dan and phil share. that i'm reducing queer men's relationships down to sex only.
but like. i'm not fucking doing that! the people making those assumptions are doing that! and saying a lot about how they view non monogamy too!
i'm saying i think they're so secure in their love and relationship that they're literally completely unbothered and not threatened by potentially having an open relationship. devotion is not only present in monogamous relationships.
WAD makes sense as a point of post coming out timing for another open period in their relationship to me. quite honestly i could see phil being the one to suggest it to dan? 2019 thru the close of WAD was dan's self actualization era.
growing up in the context of a single committed relationship does things to you psychologically. your identity formation happens side by side with another person and even if the relationship isn't controlling and toxic you can really lose sight of your individuality, if you're not careful. this is even easier to have happen if you share all of your friends, live together, AND work together. ESPECIALLY if you're significantly closeted in some way.
i know this because i've also lived it. believe me when i say dan NEEDED to figure out who he was as an individual. we saw him do that in several iterations artistically/careerwise. but we also saw his interest in experiencing queer culture in ways he missed out on when he was young and closeted.
so i think dan actually WAS on the apps, when he was touring WAD. i wouldn't be surprised if that was phil's idea, even. a "don't worry, go see the world, we've been open before, i'm not worried you won't want to come home to me, nobody's gonna match your freak like i do". i think phil would've had the option too but probably would've taken it less.
and i think it's like. like they're best friends! it's something they would've been talking about with each other. i think it could've been foreplay to them sometimes. i think it could've been what catapaulted dan into his top era. (this is a seperate essay from drs. frecklie, frecklie and phulge as well).
most importantly we think dan came back from the first leg of WAD having completely exorcised his fear of commitment and. wait i have to find a specific message. nevermind you're getting 3 screenshots without any further context
anyways. i can't find the specific point where we said this so it was maybe an in person conversation but the rest of the idea is that experiencing other options resulted in dan coming back from WAD and proposing. and phil proposing the gaming channel return right back. we 1000% said this before phil mentioned that he's the one who suggested the gaming channel return i just can NOT fucking find receipts on that because we largely voice message.
this has been an entire ramble that touched on a lot of different subjects but. yeah. dan and phil aren't polyamorous in the "both dating another person as a couple/other people as individuals" sense nor will they ever be. but there's sooo much room between that and strict monogamy.
and a lot of that in between is in perfect alignment with the ways they've talked about their lives over the years and is yet another extension of them having a level of trust love and intimacy in their relationship that most people will never experience. so
thank you for coming to my ted talk.
#jam replies#jam posts#anon#polyamory#analysis#meta#this is ok to rb but i'm not putting it in the tags bc people love to be shitheads#jam thoughts#freckliephulge

TBH what I really hate about the way Thomas Astruc speaks about MLB is the fact he sounds like a fanfic writer who is dedicated to canon compliance AND NOT as the person who WRITES THE ACTUAL SHOW!
It makes sense for a very canon compliant fanfic author to be very on top of it about keeping character consistency, they want to be loyal to the original, they don't want to rock the boat too much, when you're the person WRITING THE STORY you can do anything you want! Does a character realistic WOULDN'T CHANGE? Well, sir, good news: You are in charge of reality! You can alter literally ALL the circumstances around them! With the magic of writing, you change the world--
Literally-- Like, literally the whole world
Just admit you don't want to...
Why not say: "This character won't change because I PREFER the way it is, its better for the story *I* want to tell, and this is MY story to tell!" because, you know what? It IS YOUR story, IT IS yours to tell! That is fine!
Several writers got flack for the choices they made with their characters (specially the endings tbh)! Louisa May Alcott, K.A. Applegate, (sometimes by accident, like in Douglas Adam's case, whose last Hitchhiker's book was a real downer, even he admitted he was depressed when he wrote it, but he sadly passed away before he could write another one) even Joane KR, all of them did things to their stories the fans did NOT LIKE, from redeeming people the fans felt did not deserve it, to giving sad endings to certain characters, to not giving them their seemingly obvious ship, but they OWNED IT!
Just say it... Just say you don't want to do it, its okay
#Thomas Astruc Critical#ml writers salt#mlb salt#Miraculous Ladybug#Miraculous Ladybug Critical#Chloe Bourgeois#Yeah its about her#Like I didn't write with the intention of being salt tbh#this is an honest opinion no tea no shade... Maybe I got sarcastic at points but its just who I am...#Salt#I guess...

~5 Writing tips that actually help~
(These tips are meant for fiction books, especially fantasy. so if you’re writing nonfiction a decent amount of these won’t apply to you. Sorry!)
Find your writing voice.
one of the biggest issues I find in things written by beginners is a lack of emotional connection with the narration. Sure the story can be great, but without personality, without looks into the characters minds, without little quips here and there, it really isn’t all that interesting. Something that really helped me to realize this was a book called the tragical tale of birdie bloom. It’s a kids book but it honestly has such a good narrator (and storyline tbh) that you can look past the little kiddy-ness. I recommend you check the book out if you’re looking for some inspiration. I will be making a post about how to develop your writing and character voices soon so if you want some extra help with that, stay tuned!
2. Get to know your characters.
I know that you all probably already know this, but characters are one of, if not the most important part of a book. Readers don’t want to read about a flat, boring character who just feels like a vessel for the horrifying amount of trauma you add to your story. They want to read about people that feel real, people with flaws and feelings and hobbies and backstories. When I wanted to develop my characters I started going through the drafts, the plot outlines, everything and seeing what the characters did, said, felt. Then I took their basic backstory and started lining things up. Like if a character decided to get into a fight with another character, I would see what had happened to them that might have caused this. Maybe they had been abused as a child and thought that any disagreement meant they had to fight for their life. Maybe this person reminded them of a former enemy. After you start to figure out what connects the characters to the big plot points, you can then start to develop subtle things. You could start writing something, realize this situation would have triggered a character, and then drop subtle hints towards them feeling uncomfortable. Go nuts with it, after all you can never over-analyze a character.
3. Describe things uniquely.
Descriptions are what help us to understand what’s going on in a scene. They can tell us about the tasty drink a character is enjoying, the slick dress that someone is wearing or the way a characters muscles tense when a certain someone enters the room. But sometimes descriptions a fall a bit flat and that can ruin the experience for the reader. Something I always try to remember is to try and come up with new words describe something, for example; “her eyes were a beautiful shade of brown.” Is a very basic and over used description, instead you could try; “her eyes sparkled as she sat across from me, gleaming a rich chocolate shade as the light from the candles reflected off of them”. This is a much stronger sentence as it gives both environment hits and a description of the eyes, all while staying away from overused terms. I often see this theme in stories written by beginners, things being described in a very straight forward manner. And of course this is ok once in a while, especially if this isn’t a very important topic, but it still sounds better when you branch away from that basic sentence structure. I always like to use descriptive sentences to push things forward. Here is another example; “she was wearing a fluffy green dress with lots of lace. She walked over to the door and opened it.” Vs “the lacy trim of her green dress dragged on the floor as she walked towards the door. She smiled wide as she held it open, inviting her guests into the building.” Making strong sentences is very important, so please toy around with different words, structures, etc, until the sentence fits the type of book you’re trying to write.
4. Make trauma realistic.
Yes, even if you’re writing a fantasy book, characters experiences have to be realistic. Something that always gets on my nerves is when writers come up with a good idea for some trauma, so they just give to a character, even when it doesn’t suit them at all. if you are going to give a character trauma you need to explain it, set it up so it actually fits into their character arc, then have the character actually be affected by it. They can’t just randomly be like “I got shot by a dude.” And that’s it if there is no way that character could have gotten shot given their life experiences. Also if you want a character to be relatively unaffected after an extremely traumatic event you have to plan it out so that they have a specific and consistent trauma response that makes them not react shortly after an event like that. Characters are supposed to be like people, and no two people react to trauma the same way, so you do have some leeway if necessary, but people also don’t just stay the same after something horrible happens, they are affected by it and that has to be accurately portrayed. This does get easier the more you get to know the characters though, as soon you will know how they react to things and how to plan trauma that suits them.
5. Make a plot outline.
I cannot stress this enough, make a plot outline. Making a plot outline literally saved my book, and they are really easy to make! I recommend you download a spreadsheet app like XL spreadsheets or Apple numbers but you could even use google docs if you want. You want to put in all the chapters and then give each chapter at least six spots to write scenes. Add a spot for adding the main event of the chapter/a summery of what you have to write. This will help you to understand what you have to write for that chapter and how it fits into the next chapter. After that you start to fill all the scene boxes in with your plot information. Having a plot outline is great as it can be super vague and messy, but still hold all your ideas. It also helps to prevent unnecessary rewrites later, as you can just edit the plot outline before you start writing the first draft. You can even make a plot outline after you’ve started writing your book. That’s what I did and I promise, it still is very helpful. (Example of a plot outline below.)

gold rush... isagi yoichi x reader
| pt. 5... | prev | next | masterlist |
synopsis: isagi yoichi can't help but see the girl at his bus stop as a good omen tags/tws: meet-cute , swearing, realistic isagi (this guy doesn't pull any girls tbh), mc eye colour is mentioned but it's part of the plot guys word count: 3.5k
When it came to her, every thought was categorized in never-ending rows of information. Her eye colour, her speed, her laughter, the way she calculated space on the field—it all slotted into place, neatly organized in Isagi Yoichi’s mind. But there was one thing that didn’t fit. One thing that gnawed at him the longer they played.
How the hell was Miyakazi (Y/n) not ranked first in this camp?
He glanced at her again, his breath coming out in quick, controlled bursts as he sprinted back into position. She was already moving, her eyes scanning the field with that same sharpness that made his own field vision feel almost clumsy in comparison. He was used to seeing everything on the field, used to predicting moves, breaking down plays like clockwork. But with (Y/n), it was like she was always three steps ahead of him, seeing the game unfold with a clarity that left his abilities feeling dull in contrast. She saw passing lanes he couldn’t even imagine, split-second openings that made defenders look like they were moving in slow motion.
And yet… she was ranked under him.
It didn’t make sense. Not when she played like this.
Yoichi repositioned himself, feeling the shift in the game as they entered the second half. The girls were up 4-2, and even though his team was still very much in it, they were constantly scrambling to keep pace with (Y/n)’s leadership. His field vision normally allowed him to control the flow of a match, but she was manipulating the space around her in a way he had never encountered. Every time she touched the ball, it was like the entire field bent to her will. He’d seen top-tier strikers, players who controlled the game, but this was different. She wasn’t just dominating with her skill—she was choreographing the entire match, warping the structure of the game itself.
His eyes narrowed, locking onto her as she shifted in and out of passing lanes, calculating her next move with frightening precision. His mind raced to figure out how she was doing it, but each time, his vision felt like it was falling short. Normally, he could dissect his opponents' movements, but with her, it felt like he was always a beat behind.
The teams both had some substitutions. Reo was off, and now it was his turn to mark her. Great, he thought, glancing over at Chirigi. The two of them would have to switch off on her, keep her from running the show. But even as he steeled himself for the challenge, Isagi could feel the weight of the task sinking in.
They weren’t just up against another player—they were up against a strategist. A version of seeing the game that wasn’t just reactive like his, but preemptive. His play style allowed him to predict the next play; hers allowed her to see the entire match unfold before it even began. She saw the game before it happened.
(Y/n) got the ball again, and the instant she did, Yoichi darted toward her, trying to close the space between them. She shifted, just enough to dodge him, her eyes flicking up to scan the field.
Their eyes met, and through them, he was able to understand that she knew she would win this exchange. Yoichi knew what she was going to do next—he could feel it in his bones, could see the path she was setting up. But before he could cut her off, she was gone, the ball snapping off her foot and threading through the smallest of openings.
Damn , he cursed, barely able to keep up. She’s way faster than me.
Before he could catch his breath, (Y/n) had already moved. It was like she could phase through defenders, her speed so seamless that it didn’t even feel like she was sprinting—it felt like she was cutting through space, already anticipating the next moment. Her body shifted effortlessly, her footwork light, and with a flick of her heel, she passed the ball to a teammate, almost mocking his attempt to stop her.
Yoichi was forced to pivot, chasing after her as she advanced up the field. He finally caught up to her, and in the brief pause between plays, he couldn’t help but shoot her a look.
"You’re fast," he muttered, breath still laboured.
(Y/n) didn’t even glance his way, eyes still on the game. "You’re slow."
The words weren’t meant to be cruel—they were just a fact. A truth she’d already accepted, and now he had to as well.
With the little breath he had left, Yoichi huffed out a laugh. However, he soon regretted the act as she took off in the direction of the current play.
She was really… something. A forced to be fucking reconed with of course. He couldn’t tell if it was envy or admiration, but his already growing feelings sent a burst into his chest.
19 minutes left in the second half. He needed to win this.
He sprinted, eyes darting between Otsuka Yua and (Y/n). Sure enough, as if their minds were in sync, Yua’s feet moved, passing the ball back with a sharp flick toward her captain, who was already in motion.
Yoichi glanced to his left, catching Chigiri’s eye. They didn’t need words to understand what needed to happen. Stealing the ball from (Y/n) outright was a fool’s errand, especially when she was in control like this. Their only hope was to contain her. Box her in, limit her options, and pray she didn’t slip through.
Chigiri moved first, his explosive speed cutting across the field as he zeroed in on her. Yoichi mirrored him, angling his run to trap her between them.
She barely spared them a glance, her gaze fixed on the field ahead, calculating and cold as she shifted the ball between her feet. Yoichi could feel his heart pounding in his chest, sweat dripping down his back, but he kept his focus locked on her movements.
She wasn’t going to make this easy.
As he closed in, Yoichi saw her muscles tense, saw the way she shifted her weight to her left foot—a split-second signal that she was about to pivot. His eyes flickered to Chigiri, and he knew the redhead had caught the same sign.
They converged, closing the space around her like a trap.
But (Y/n) didn’t flinch. Instead, with a grace that made Yoichi’s stomach twist with frustration, she shifted the ball backward, dragging it with the sole of her foot just out of their reach. In one fluid motion, she feinted left, sending Chigiri lunging, before darting right.
Yoichi cursed under his breath, scrambling to keep up, but she was already moving, slipping past their attempted containment like water through their fingers.
"Shit," Chigiri growled as he pivoted back, trying to catch up.
Yoichi knew they couldn’t keep letting her make them look like amateurs. He dug deep, pushing his legs harder to catch up to her before she could orchestrate another play.
“Don’t let her breathe!” Yoichi shouted at Chigiri, both of them racing to cut her off again before she could break through the defensive line.
But in the back of his mind, a voice nagged at him—a voice that was equal parts awe and frustration. How the hell was she not ranked first? Whatever, maybe he’d ask her later, now he just needed to stop her from plowing the field away.
Chigiri managed to cut her off before Isagi could, positioning himself directly in front of her, his speed barely enough to keep pace with her relentless forward push. (Y/n) stood there, the ball still at her feet, and for a moment, she looked like she was going to do what she always did—pass. Her eyes flicked to the right, toward Yua, the perfect opening.
Isagi tensed, waiting for her to make the familiar move.
But then... she hesitated.
It was so brief, so subtle, that anyone else might have missed it. But not Isagi. That split-second of hesitation as (Y/n)'s gaze lingered on the goal as if she were thinking about something different. Something she'd never done.
She wanted to shoot, Yoichi realized, his heart pounding. She’s going for it herself.
And before either he or Chigiri could react, she shifted. Her body twisted in the slightest motion, and then—boom.
She shot.
The ball cut through the air like lightning, heading straight for the bottom corner of the net. But Isagi was already moving, instincts and reflexes taking over. He lunged, his body stretching out as he reached for the shot with everything he had.
His foot made contact.
The ball ricocheted off, deflected.
Isagi stumbled slightly from the effort, but he’d done it—he’d blocked it. And in that moment, the game turned. His eyes flicked to Chigiri, and without wasting a second, they sprang into action, the counterattack already forming in his mind (though she probably already thought of it before the ball hit the ground).
She knew it was coming.
After the game, Coach Watanabe would pull her aside. She could already feel her stare—those dark, piercing eyes that seemed to strip away every layer of pretence, cutting into her like a blade. (Y/n) could almost hear her voice, low and steady, asking the one question she had been dreading.
Why did you hesitate?
The cold air bit at her flushed skin, and the weight of her mistake pressed down like a physical burden.
And the worst part was, she didn’t have an answer.
Her mind replayed the moment with a relentless clarity, the scene etched into her brain as if it were burned there. The ball had felt solid beneath her foot, a perfect connection as she controlled it. Chigiri had been in front of her, close enough for her to see the slight tightening in his muscles, the tension in his legs as he prepared to cut off her path. She could hear his laboured breaths, feel the heat radiating off him as they both hovered on the edge of action.
From behind, she had felt Isagi closing in, his shadow practically breathing down her neck. Her heartbeat had pounded in her ears, faster, faster, until it drowned out everything else.
Yua is open. Pass.
The thought had been right there, as clear as day. Yua was in position, waiting. Passing was the obvious choice. It was what she always did—find the space, set up her teammates, let them take the shot.
They’re efficient. They score.
But something had flickered inside her—a hesitation, brief but potent enough to throw her off balance. She had wanted to take the shot herself. For once, she wanted to be the one to finish it. To prove herself. But her body didn’t move fast enough, the decision snagging in her mind like a tangle of threads.
In that split second of uncertainty, everything had slipped through her fingers. She hadn’t passed, and she hadn’t shot.
The window had slammed shut.
Isagi had blocked her shot, and within seconds, he and Chigiri had torn down the field in a flash of red and blue, launching a counterattack that felt like a gut punch. The sight of Isagi’s cleats striking the ball, the net rippling with his goal—it had felt like someone had poured ice down her spine. Her missed opportunity had given him the opening. Her mistake had led to his success.
Her stomach churned, nausea mixing with anger as the weight of the moment settled in her bones. The sting of failure clung to her skin like sweat, cold and inescapable. The air around her felt heavy, almost suffocating, thick with the tension of the game’s end. She could feel the unspoken disappointment hanging in the air, as real as the turf beneath her feet.
Why couldn’t she make a choice? Her jaw clenched, frustration bubbling up with every breath. Passing had been the safe option, the smart option. But shooting— shooting was what she needed to do if she wanted to rise. If she wanted to surpass Isagi if she wanted to be more than just another player.
But now?
Now she had nothing. No goal. No assist. Just the hollow ache in her chest as she watched Isagi Yoichi walk off the field with a victory she had practically handed him.
She swallowed hard, the frustration burning a path down her throat. It sat heavy in her chest, simmering and unresolved, but it wouldn’t consume her. Next time, she told herself. Next time, she wouldn’t hesitate.
(Y/n) stood BY the sideline, heart pounding, her chest tight with a mix of frustration and disappointment. She could hear the cheers echoing around her, a cacophony of voices celebrating Isagi's goal—their goal. She felt like an outsider now, a spectator watching from a distance as his teammates revelled in the moment. The whistle blew, and she braced herself for what she knew was coming.
"Tetsuya Minato in. Miyakazi (Y/n) out."
The words felt like a punch to the gut. She turned from the field, her pulse quickening as she saw Coach Watanabe striding toward her, determination in her step. It was as if she could feel the weight of the impending conversation hanging in the air, thick and heavy.
As Mina jogged onto the field, (Y/n) caught sidelong glances from her teammates. Some were congratulatory, others laden with concern. They all knew the situation—the hesitation that had cost them momentum. She forced herself to meet their gazes, trying to project confidence, even as her insides twisted with uncertainty.
Anger simmered beneath her skin, not at the swap, but at herself. How could she have hesitated? In this moment, no one hated (Y/n) more than she loathed herself. Yet, you probably wouldn’t be able to guess that, as her team looked to their captain walking off the field; they only saw a blank expression and a tight smile.
She willed her features into a mask of calm, tucking away the turmoil roiling inside her. The cheers surrounding her felt distant, like echoes from another world. All she could focus on was the sting of disappointment, threatening to unravel the facade she had built around her reputation. She forced herself to appear unbothered as she approached the bench. Deep down, though, every cheer for Isagi cut deeper, reminding her of her missed opportunity.
“Good job, Cap” Mina called as he took her place, the excitement in her voice a sharp contrast to the knot in her stomach.
She managed a smile, but it felt hollow. She turned her attention to the game, determined to keep her head in it, even as frustration clawed at her. She wouldn’t show her teammates the turmoil brewing inside; they needed to see their captain steady, not shaken.
"(Y/n)," Coach Watanabe said, her voice steady yet firm as she beckoned her to the side. She followed Watanabe, the ground feeling unsteady beneath her feet. “Let’s replay.”
“Sure,” she replied, voice strained.
Once they were a few paces away, the coach crossed her arms, her brow furrowed. “What happened out there?” Her tone was calm, but (Y/n) could sense the undercurrent of concern running through it.
She swallowed hard, searching for the right words. “I—”
“You hesitated,” Watanabe interrupted, her gaze sharp as a knife, cutting through the tension. “You went against your function. You’re a midfielder, not a striker. Your job is to control the tempo, to set up plays, not take unnecessary risks.”
(Y/n) felt her cheeks flush, warmth creeping up her neck like a rising tide, a mixture of embarrassment and frustration boiling beneath the surface. The taste of iron filled her mouth, a bitter reminder of the moment she had let slip through her fingers. “I know what I am. I just… I wanted to try something different. I thought maybe—”
“Maybe what?” Coach Watanabe pressed, her voice wasn't mocking, only steady and firm. “That you could single-handedly change the game? You’re part of a team. We play together, not as individuals. Your strength lies in your vision, your ability to read the game, not in taking on that kind of pressure.”
(Y/n) opened her mouth, ready to defend herself, but the words died on her lips. Watanabe was right. She had let the moment get to her, allowed her ambition to cloud her judgment like a fog rolling in over a quiet sea. “I just thought… maybe I could surprise them.”
Coach Watanabe let out a heavy sigh, her shoulders slumping as if carrying the weight of the team on them. “I appreciate your drive, but this isn’t about individual glory. It’s about the team. You’re still contributing from the bench, even if you’re not on the field. And right now, we need to regroup. They’re playing without you.”
The words felt like a cold splash of water, jolting (Y/n) back to reality. A wave of disappointment washed over her, and she nodded, the weight of her coach's words settling like a thick fog in her mind. “I understand.”
“Good,” she said, a hint of encouragement creeping into her tone, softening the edges of her earlier reprimand. “Just remember: you can shoot, you can pass, do whatever. I expect 100% commitment for anything, especially from you.”
With that, she turned away, leaving (Y/n) standing on the sideline, feeling both deflated and strangely empowered. She watched as her teammates moved around the field, their focus shifting back to the match, the cheers rising again as they pressed forward, trying to turn the tide.
She inhaled deeply, the scent of sweat and grass filling her lungs. She could hear the rhythmic thud of the ball against cleats, the cheers of her teammates blending into a cacophony of support. Even though she was off the field, she felt the energy buzzing around her, igniting a spark within.
The score was still 4-3, and there was around 8 minutes left. Even if she was on the bench now, she was still part of this team, and she would make sure that her presence was felt.
It seemed as if right away they had taken advantage of her absence.
From the bench, (Y/n)'s gaze locked onto the field, her pulse still elevated from the earlier play. It wasn’t like they couldn’t function without her—the team was adaptable—but without her controlling the tempo, they shifted to a more defensive style, closing ranks, holding their ground. A flicker of frustration sparked in her chest, but she swallowed it down. She could still help.
“Mina, Kunimi! Keep shape” she shouted, her voice cutting through the noise of the match. Her teammates responded, tightening their formation, pushing the opposing team-wide, forcing them to rethink their strategy. The air crackled with tension, each movement calculated, each pass weighted with precision.
Her eyes darted to the other side, tracking Isagi’s movements. It was obvious now. He was more open , exploiting the gaps in their defence, capitalizing on the fact that without her, the midfield didn’t quite have the same bite. He was pushing forward, more aggressively than before.
She narrowed her gaze, her eyes studying him. Isagi wasn’t just playing the game—he was dissecting it, reading the defence like an open book, setting up the next move before her team even realized they needed to react. He was different here , more confident, commanding, as if the field gave him a whole new identity.
Her instincts kicked in. She could see what Isagi saw—the weaknesses in their defence, the open spaces he could slip through if they weren’t careful. He was trying to disappear, moving through the blind spots, ghosting between players, waiting for the moment to strike.
“Watch your blind spots!” she yelled, her voice sharp, eyes locked on Isagi’s subtle movements. Her team shifted, closing the gaps, trying to keep up with his elusive footwork. He was patient, waiting for the perfect moment.
Then the ball moved to Nagi.
(Y/n)’s heartbeat quickened. She could sense the pressure building, the way her teammates tensed, ready for the challenge. “Box him!” she called out, directing the defence to press in. If they could trap Nagi, they could break the play.
The defence pressed hard, and one of her teammates intercepted the pass from Nagi, breaking the flow of the opposing team. The momentum shifted, and they surged toward the goal, moving with speed and purpose.
Her attention flickered back to Isagi. He was a different person on the field. Normally, she knew him as awkward, even a bit dorky, with that shy smile and those soft, unassuming glances. But here… here he was something else. Commanding. His presence was like gravity, pulling the game toward him, orchestrating every move with ruthless precision. It was unsettling, but at the same time, she understood it.
Her pulse thudded in her ears as she watched the game unfold. They were all here to represent Japan for a reason, and Isagi was proving exactly why. Even from the bench, she could sense his growing influence on the field, his presence becoming more dangerous with every passing second.
The strength of her gaze tracked him as he drifted closer to Otoya, positioning himself perfectly, waiting for the right moment. He was patient, calculating, like a hunter lying in wait. Otoya weaved through their defence, agile and slippery, until he spotted the opening. In a flash, he sent the ball spiralling back to Isagi.
There it was. The pass she had been dreading.
(Y/n)’s breath hitched. She could see Isagi's path and the space he’d carve through their defence. If only she was out there to stop him. Her chest tightened, frustration bubbling beneath her skin, but she shoved it down. Now wasn’t the time for regrets—she needed to analyze.
Isagi was in full control. He pivoted sharply, his touch light but deliberate as he gathered the ball. With one quick glance, he scanned the field, taking in every angle, every gap, every player out of position. (Y/n) could see the wheels turning in his mind, and the way he read the game was terrifying. He wasn’t the fastest or the strongest, but his vision was unmatched. He could predict the flow of play, manipulate the defense into creating the spaces he wanted.
Her heart raced as she followed his movements. He was moving through layers of their defence, slipping between players, using their hesitation against them. Every step he took was calculated, each fake-out drawing defenders out of position. It was like watching someone orchestrate a symphony, each movement flowing seamlessly into the next.
"Close him down!" she found herself shouting, even though it was already too late. Isagi was free.
He angled his body, shifting his weight just enough to keep the defenders guessing. Then, with a swift cut to the left, he exploded forward. Two of her teammates lunged to block him, but he didn’t hesitate, didn’t flinch. A quick give-and-go with Otoya and Isagi was clear, his path to goal wide open.
(Y/n) could practically feel the tension crackling through the air as he lined up his shot. He didn’t need to power it in—instead, his foot met the ball with a precision that seemed almost effortless. The ball arced beautifully, sailing just beyond the keeper’s fingertips, hitting the back of the net with a sharp, definitive snap.
4-4.
Her stomach twisted as she watched Isagi celebrate, his teammates swarming him, the mixture of cheers and groans blending into a dissonant hum. He was a completely different person out here. That awkwardness she associated with him was gone, replaced by a sharp-edged confidence, an almost predatory focus that had taken command of the game.
If only she had been out there.
But for now, all she could do was watch—and she found every second of it repulsing.
a/n: sorry for the late updates besties... here ya go <3

So I played Life is Strange 2 for the first time ever
I didn’t wanna play it for a long time not cause it didn’t have Chloe or max (tbh I got sick of their asses around BtS they’re not even my faves)
By that point I was in college and had lost interest in the whole franchise but also I was very apprehensive of white creatives writing racism with no input from the group they’re portraying, they don’t usually do a good job
Sometimes they make it cartoony, sometimes they trivialize it, sometimes they romanticize it
So years later adulthood kicked my ass and I came back crawling to this franchise for some comfort, I finished True colors annnnd I finally started 2 after hesitating annnnd
^sketched this while playing
SPOILERS
I actually liked it
I liked Sean, the drawing segment he does- he was such a likable main guy, deserved better honestly.
I also liked Daniel, he was very adorable and I never got it when people called him annoying like no shit the 9 year old is gonna act like a 9 year old- just don’t be a jerk to him, I know he can be frustrating but that’s what taking care of a kid is like
And lis had always been about realistic complex characters, y’all can’t handle a traumatized nine year?
I have two younger siblings and two nieces plus I’ve been a bratty younger sibling to two older sisters
Maybe I’m just used to it?? But honestly Daniel wasn’t that bad
The racism portrayal in the first few episodes was not all that cartoony and it actually felt real at times, like I can check for American news rn and find stories similar to what you see in episodes 1-3 (minus the telekinesis)
Although the gas station racist hick spouting trump slogans was a bit on the nose, it’s more of dialogue thing
Some people thought the gas station detainment was egregious but it can happen unfortunately, especially to vulnerable people in rural areas and by someone of a higher systematic advantage
One other thing I did not like was the love interests, I thought Finn and Cassidy were alright characters on their own but why do we need romance in this game where the protagonists are always on the run?
I don’t like to compare lis 1 to 2 but when it comes to the romance the former did a better job as it spent more time establishing it, plus max stayed in the same place for the majority of the game- but you know what? Sean doesn’t have to be in a relationship right? It can be a one off thing, that’s fine
Which brings me to my next point
How old are Cassidy and Finn?
Cause Sean is still 16 and no, being on the road didn’t mentally age him- he’s not “mature” for his age
He is still a kid
So for some reason Dontnod never really specified their ages but some articles described them as teens (they look 30 to me) and they can be around 18 right? Their lives are hard stress ages you- it happens, we can with live that, it’s just a two years difference
But teens or not
why did they animate a whole knocking the boots scene???
Of all the games in the series, the only one that gets a sex scene is the one with the much younger protagonist and his ambiguously aged older looking love interest and I think it’s only with Cassidy you get to do it in the tent
Alex Chen was robbed of a on screen booty call from a beanie wearing lesbian with a sexy radio voice or a buff ass Adonis of a man who was Smokey the bear’s regional manager or something
Anyways I’m gonna move on I’m uncomfortable lmao
*im not hating on people who ship Sean with either Finn or Cassidy, I’m not even tagging your ship names- im just stating my personal preferences on my blog
One last thing I did not like about LiS 2 and it was the one thing that kept me from playing it for years
That one scene from episode 4
So at this point Sean Diaz went through the following:
-lost his father, had to abandoned his loved ones, education and home
-was accused of killing a cop
-had to take care of his little brother on his own while on the run, the same brother with telekinesis and none of them know how to control it
-was harassed, beaten then detained by a racist white man
-had to take refuge in an abandoned cabin with little resources
-the dog that they adopted at the gas station eventually gets mauled
-the one time they found solace at their grandparents house they had to leave abruptly cause the police was hot on their trail
-on their way out they can potentially witness the neighbors kid that they befriended get hit by the police car that’s chasing them
-they find shelter at a nomad campground but oh no they get involved with drug trafficking cause they barely have any other options to make money (unfortunately this happens a lot IRL this isnt egregious)
-Sean now has to deal with the trafficking, making sure that Daniel doesn’t get into any trouble with his powers while fake ass giancarlo esposito is breathing down his neck
-and guess what happens next… Daniel gets robbed into pulling a heist on temu gus fring and it goes badly, Sean can potentially lose a love interest/friend in Finn
-Sean gets hurt, Daniel goes so mad that he blows the whole place up; a shard glass flies into Sean’s eye and he ends up losing it
- Sean wakes up from a coma and learns that his brother is missing and he’s about to be taken to jail
- the one thing that consistently brought him joy during this trip was his art and because of the missing eye he can’t even do it the same anymore cause it hurts now
- Sean has to escape the hospital with a hot wired car, little money and has to drive across two states just to get to his brother
-on the way he dreams of his father, he wants him back he wants his old life back but that’s not gonna happen so he has to move forward
Im not listing all this as examples of bad story telling, a lot of these are real life experiences of homeless people. im just painting a picture of the shit that Sean had went through so far
Cause right after the dream sequence, Dontnod didn’t think all that was enough no you had to see Sean get hate crimed by two lifetime movie, sitcom special of the week racists- be made to either sing or suffer a brutal beating
It added nothing to the plot, it didn’t need a choice system either- it’s a hate crime, you’re not asking Joyce for fucking pancakes or eggs n bacon at the whales diner or hosing down Lisa the fckin plant.
This to me went straight to trauma p*rn category, it’s wheelchair Chloe all over again
I hated it then in LiS 1 and I hated now in LiS 2, this is why I don’t dick ride Dontnod that often
They always had this tendency right before the end they single out a particular character and mentally whip them, they become the writing teams punching bag- they think we didn’t get it the first time that this character is going through it, they just hammer it in with the subtlety of a heart attack and I hate it
“Yeah but it’s there to show Sean’s resolve to find Daniel-“
HE ESCAPED FROM THE HOSPITAL AND THE FEDS, HE HOT WIRED A CAR TO DRIVE ACROSS TWO STATES
He’s starving, dehydrated, suffering from chronic pain
That’s enough
Let the character breathe
You ask why not a lot of people wanna play this game and I’m gonna tell you, as much I enjoyed it myself it’s not an easy game to play- it gets brutal, especially right around the end
I’m not against bleakness or extreme conflict, I’m into that but sometimes that doesn’t translate well to any gaming format- especially a choices matter game that’s meant to be replayed
Some people have asinine reasons not to play LiS 2 like it dealing with racism and those people suck, lis had always dealt with progressive themes like calling out objectification, cyberbullying and sl*tshaming
Racism shouldn’t be the exemption
but misuse of racial trauma and not knowing when it’s appropriate to invoke it is a huge turn off and hella triggering to a lot of non white players and I remember when LiS 2 dropped I’ve seen (mostly white) lis fans at the time proclaiming that not wanting to play it meant that you were racist
Like I said there were probably racists who didn’t wanna touch the games cause of the main characters skin but there were people like me who were apprehensive of the “Let’s go to the mosh pit Shaka brah” people handling racism
This is the same studio that had Ms Grant (one of the few black characters from LiS 1) claim that the white settlers peacefully shared the stolen land with the native Americans
I find that shit harder to believe than the time traveling powers
And they were doing alright in the first episodes they covered stuff like unconscious biases slipping through, dog whistles, polite racism from the grandparents segment, police brutality, racial profiling and being targeted/othered- some of these things I went through when I visited western countries
Then they did the bullshit I feared theyd do…
I really don’t blame myself for being hyper vigilant at the time and honestly I was going through a lot then, even if I wanted to I wouldn’t have touched LiS 2 cause it’s a very heavy tasking game to play
I know I kinda made it seem like I didn’t like this game but I did, its the best one in terms of the choice system
It had more weight to it, seeing Daniel internalizing what you say to him or how you act around him was so cool
Also what the second game has over the first one aside from the choices system is the ending selection- I never liked picking the endings for max, I wanted her to pick the ending or her coding/script to do that
Its definitely more fleshed out technically even though LiS 1 has a special place in my heart it’s always gonna be no. 1- but im also glad that I got to experience the 2nd game for the first time, I liked it
Personal lis ranking
1: Lis 1
2: Lis 2
3: True colors
Discount bin: BtS
My personal fave moments from LiS 2:
- beating up the racist bully and giving him a concussion
-mushroom (rip icon)
- victorias letter
-winning that that bear from that claw machine
-gorillaz song that was not feel good inc
-Brody pointing at a fucked up looking arcadia bay yelling “that’s the past!”- that was hilarious
-Sean paying tribute to Arcadia bay in his sketchbook (this fucking kid man, he’s so sweet he deserves the world- what did he do to make DONTNOD mad at him)
- the wolf animation and the story that plays before every chapter
-this was the worst hate crime in the whole game

Ok, but like I feel like I've never dove in how Jason was probably the youngest in the legion. Probably for a very, very long time. And imagine how it felt to watch as kids played in new Rome, and eventually joined you. And you could never join them as they played in new rome. Imagine all of the kids you know are older than you, and you can't make friends. Imagine having to lead quests of people way older than you that resent you for it because of your parentage. Imagine how happy he was when people his age finally started joining, and I wishing he could he them? Imagine basically being raised by a bunch of teenagers, many of whom dislike you? Would love to hear ur thoughts
honestly, i imagine all of the older members of the legion whispering behind Jason's back about how easy he has it in camp jupiter bc of his dad, about how he isnt "qualified" enough to lead missions, and how he has everything "handed" to him. i feel like he had a LOT to prove and only when his missions started getting successful, people actually accept that he is capable, but even then envious members of the cohort would say that he got lucky or only succeeded bc of jupiter's blessings or smth. could you imagine a baby jason going to the older members of the legion for advice and they just coolly shrug him off? i feel like in a realistic standpoint, they arent outright mean to him bc they are terrified of jupiter's anger but they arent friendly either.
They just let him sit in a corner. i feel like at some point, even when people his age start coming in, he still wouldnt feel loved, because they all would think jason is too scary or intimidating and would avoid him out of fear, also bc he doesnt understand their jokes bc he was brought up too serious. so he would be an outcast. he would be an outcast but not necessarily in a bad way, but like "he's too good for us" type of way which actually hurts jason way more. like when he comes in they all would give him a small bow or something and it gets on his NERVES.
overall i feel like there is too much jealousy surrounding him for him to have any comfortable conversation with people, especially because he is their "leader" even if he was a praetor very late, people still subconsciously saw him as one, even the old praetors consulted him before they came to a decision.
i feel like the moment people even remotely saw him as a human with feelings is when he joined the least reputed legion simply to popularize it. i feel like that was HIS moment where ppl were like "yep this guy is actually a living person with empathy!" but it reverted back to ppl seeing him as an unapproachable artifact
which is why im so upset that frank and hazel didnt have a closer relationship with him, i mean we did see jason and frank talking together on the deck of argo 2 after jason transferred his praetorship to frank, probably filling him in his position, but i wish their relationship ascended beyond just a mentor and his apprentice. because that concept with jason's character gets so old. literally everyone saw him as an advisor and leader that they could learn from, but who really saw something beyond that about him? only leo, nico, reyna, piper and percy tbh.
and in the end, reyna had a subtle fallout with him so they didnt talk, piper broke up with him so they were awkward and tense, leo "died" and never saw him again, the last time nico saw jason was probably during the strawberry field scene when nico told him he's staying at camp, and jason got too busy with his temple project to see anyone else. he was working to keep his promise till the very end, just like a true roman. honestly thanks to you i might actually expand on this in a separate post and tag you in it :)

What do you think of the possibility of Will and Chance happening? I feel like it would be really poor writing tbh but I feel like they will give Will a different love interest because they’ll try to make all of the audience „happy“ But that would just truly not align with the writing so far I feel like.
Love your analyses btw<3
THANK YOUU! That's so kind :) And great ask! This is definitely a topic that the ST fandom needs to discuss.
The default question when people have little to no hope in Byler is, well, who the hell is Will going to end up with? Because it’s become increasingly evident that they’re trying to set him up for a romance. The “im not gonna fall in love”, the “it’s not my fault you don’t like girls”, even the gif shown above. It all can be interpreted to mean that Will is going to find his person soon.
So... to be completely honest, I had no idea who Chance was until this ask popped up and I had to look him up💀. It’s been a while since I’ve been on here, so I’m a little rusty on the deep lore lmao. So, in the off chance that others might also be confused, here’s a (rare) gif of him I found.
I think that’s him with the Hawkins cap on the right. Correct me if I’m wrong.
I’m not sure where the rumors that this guy was going to become a bigger part of the show came from, but that seems highly unlikely to me. I feel like they would have either hinted at it in the fourth season (like how they’re giving Patrick here quite a sizeable role so that he’ll be memorable to us later when he gets vecnafied) or they would have announced him as a more prominent character already like how they did for s5 with Holly, that one new kid character, and also how they did Amybeth for s4. Idk, maybe it’s unreasonable to think they would have to do that, but it feels quite too out-of-the-blue. Especially for a character that would take on the role of becoming our central character’s love interest, which is a BIG DEAL. Especially if it’s queer lol.
Secondly, I firmly believe that it would be a disservice to Will’s own desires to meet someone new.
Will said this explicitly in the van scene, and as of now, we’re still under the impression that Mike is his person. Forget about Mike’s issues and feelings for a second, and think about what Will is saying here. He feels like a mistake for being different, but Mike makes him feel like he’s not a mistake at all, that he’s better for being different. Mike gives him courage to fight on. Fuck. Tbh, it makes me wonder how long he’d felt this way. As a byler, you might be inclined to think his feelings have been on for forever, but narratively, he could have easily just realized his own feelings very recently, most likely sometime between season 3 and 4. It doesn’t mean the feelings weren’t there before, but realistically neither Will nor the general audience were aware of it before now.
Moving on.
Has anyone heard of the rule of Chekhov’s gun? It’s an incredibly clever and widely-used tool in screenwriting and storytelling in general that helps to clue the watchers in for what’s to come next.
Think of Lucas’ wrist rocket in season 1. When they introduced it as a flimsy-looking, no-good weapon that he’d put too much pride in at first, it gives us a good laugh and we move on. But really, it very meticulously set us up to subconsciously anticipate to see it again later. That’s what Chekhov’s gun is all about. Set-ups, foreshadowing, hidden treasures.
Another great example would be the painting reveal of s4. Obviously, after finding out that Will was painting something, bylers immediately figured it was for Mike and BEGGED and HOPED and PLEADED that we’d be able to finally see it, but to the general audience it was just another something that they’d have to pick apart and realize was actually of importance as the season progressed. (It’s also a good way of showing that the writers are fully capable of engrossing the entire fan base and general audience in his and Mike’s story. Just knowing Will had painted something and that it was for Mike created this sense of PLEASE TELL ME WHAT IT IS AND WJATS GOING ON and whatnot that watchers are simply so susceptible to it’s insane.)
Okay, back to the van scene. Will’s confession.
Now, I’m not saying that the writers intentionally used this foreshadowing tool for us to find and understand immediately. There are plenty, plenty of instances where writers use Chekhov’s gun principle and it flies over peoples heads purposefully. What I’m trying to say is that, thematically and narratively, they would never have introduced Wills feelings for Mike if not for it to have importance to the story, or for nothing to happen with it at all. It’s a set up. And a maddeningly good one, at that. Because queer stories already do tend to fly over people’s heads, and also because there’s the added drama between Mike and Eleven that makes it seem quite impossible for any of these feelings to be addressed in the midst of such emotional chaos. But whatever. I think I’m rambling.
Basically, whether they end up together or not, whether Mike reciprocates these feelings, Will is forever established to be in love with Mike. The confession was simply too grand and emotional and earnest for him to just switch up abruptly next season when he meets someone new that he might have a better chance with. Even if there were to be a whole new arc for him where he learns to let go of Mike or something crappy like that, it would be terrible writing on their end and poor use of a well-set-up Chekhov’s gun reference. It would be like introducing the gun in the display case in scene one, then two scenes later just tucking it away into a storage closet for the remainder of the story. Like… what?
And plus, it’s HIGHLY unlikely that Will would end up with that sort of storyline next season when he’s literally WITH Mike for presumably a majority of the time (based on the set pics so far).
So that’s my debunking of the Chance rumors :) and I didn’t even get to mention how incompatible they’d be just naturally as characters. Chance, a Jason-following jock that hates Dungeons and Dragons, fantasy and nerdy things, and willingly assisted in beating up the Hellfire Club when they were trying to find Eddie. What about that at all screams Will’s type? And if you’re thinking “unconventional couple enemies to lovers”, just don’t. This isn’t a rom-com, especially for a queer plot line lol. I think it’s safe to say there’s no “chance”😉 that they will ever happen. And either way, it’d be a bummer if they did. Cus it would just be Will defeatedly settling for someone that isn’t Mike.
UGH! It makes me sad that the one thing that is firmly being teased by the writers (Will’s love playing a major role in the plot to come) is constantly being questioned and framed as different questions. “Will Mike reciprocate?” “Does this mean Mike and Eleven break up?” “Who will end up with who?” SHHH Frankly, to me this is already a win. It’s become obvious that Will having feelings for him will come up again soon, and the rest of the evidence that accounts for Mike’s end already speaks for itself, so I prefer to just sit back and watch it all unfold.
Again, thanks so much for the ask!! This was so fun to dissect and feel free to keep sending questions into my inbox. It might take me a second to post my response but I’m determined to get through all of them. Love you guys!! <3
