Ever since the oscar nominations came out I have been looking EVERYWHERE for a chance to watch this movie. After failing left and right I finally discovered that it hasn't released theatrically in the states yet and likely won't until after the Oscars which is such BS. I know the academy voters don't have to watch every single movie nominated for the animation category to vote (hence why disney has won so many oscars) but the fact that this movie hasn't even had a wide release and is being placed against blockbuster hits just boils my blood a little.

The nomination period will end Thursday, October 31st 10:00 am PST

This nomination period will help determine the starting brackets for the poll tournament. There are 64 slots available. Placement and seed number will be determined by the number of nominations a card gets, as well as the level interaction it receives (likes, reblogs, comments, etc...). Please note that not every card nominated will be able to place.

If you would like to nominate a card, the best way to do so is to send an Ask with the name of the card you wish to nominate.

(I will try to include cards nominated by other means, but there is no guarantee I will see them)

Please specify if there is a particular art or printing you would like to see represented in your nomination. Otherwise I'll use whatever non-special treatment I find.

If multiple arts for the same card are nominated, there will be an additional short poll conducted for 24 hours after nominations close to determine which art will be used.

You are allowed to nominate multiple cards. However, in the interest of being selective, I ask that you keep it to no more than 3.

Any Magic: the Gathering card you can find on Gatherer, wotc's official database for Magic: The Gathering cards, is eligible to be nominated.

Introducing PAGERS: a single page TTRPG book club!

There's an art to the single page TTRPG that can often go unseen. How do you fit an engaging experience into just 1 mere page? How do you explain potentially complex mechanics with a constraint like this? What of layout, art, and graphic design?

With so many amazing single-page TTRPGs out there, your potential favorites may be waiting around hidden corners. From classic dungeon crawlers, one-size-fits-all mini-systems, and experimental single-mechanic games, to thoughtful journaling games, story games, and experimental art games— there's so much to love!

The goal of PAGERS is to explore and enjoy these wonderful games together, to find new games you may have missed, to be inspired, and to discuss just what makes for an engaging tabletop game.

For now, we're aiming to play a new game once a month, with open nominations and voting to pick each of them! We'll be starting nominations for our first game shortly!

My Philon Awards Spirk Fic Recs

It's Philon Awards Season! I'm going through my bookmarks trying to decide how to narrow down the many, MANY amazing fics and art I've voraciously consumed.

If you're not deep in the fandom you might not have heard of the awards. They're given at KisCon, the annual Kirk/Spock convention in Seattle. However, they're open to nomination and voting by anyone who enjoys Spirk!

Is this open to people who aren’t fanfic writers or artists?

Can I nominate myself? 

Yes. PLEASE DO. The form is anonymous so we won’t know anyway. 

Do I need to have x amount of kudos, followers, fics, art etc, in order to be nominated? 

Nope! The goal is to celebrate the community regardless of popularity, visibility, or type of creation. Fics can be in progress - they don't have to be finished!

Is there a limitation on ships? 

Not at all. If you make things about Eris, ship or no ship, that counts. Ships with canon characters, OCs and x Reader count too. 

I want to nominate myself, but I’m shy!! Or I am not sure I count. Or I think I am not good enough yet. Or Nominating myself feels like being selfish, or if I nominate myself, it only proves that no one cares, so I feel like I’m failing if I nominate myself.

Creator Highlight #17 - @cauldronblssd

Today we’d like to highlight @cauldronblssd! CB is one of the most welcoming and generous creators in the Elucien community who has given so much to others. She is a talented writer with a wide variety of stories and has also commissioned some of the most gorgeous pieces for Elain and Lucien.

If you check out CB's work, you can find just about any flavor you crave! Whether that is an AU in space, canon divergence, or modern-day spice, she's got both the angst and spice you seek. Not only is she an amazing storyteller, she is also known for leaving some of the most thoughtful comments on AO3 to other authors. She really embodies what the Elucien community is about!

Elain and Lucien have spent the past several years politely avoiding each other. When Elain has a vision about Lucien becoming the High Lord of Autumn, she agrees to accept the mating bond to a male that she hardly knows. Bound by the bond and a couple unexpected bargains, the newly mated couple form an alliance.

Morning Edition

Elain listens to her local public radio station every morning as a way to support her sister, Feyre, a local arts and culture reporter. What starts as casual listening develops into something more when she finally meets the man behind the voice she listens to on the new every morning, Lucien Vanserra.

"Lucien was an NPR reporter, an enthusiast of local politics and an active participant in the fall and spring fund drives. Surely, he couldn’t be a party animal either, with a call time of five AM or something else equally absurd. Still, it had been him who suggested they meet at the last minute. Was this a booty call? Would he still buy her drinks, then?

It seemed a strange move to select your coworker’s sister for such an arrangement, but perhaps she was naive. She’d have to keep her head on her shoulders, even when he spoke to her with that low seductive voice or wore another well-fitted shirt that showed off his expansive chest. Elain squared her shoulders, resolving herself to be firm in her resolution not to go home with him that night."

​​・・・​​⟢Best Fanseries Concept: Arcades, Racing Games, & Sweets - Sugar Rush! Pretty Cure ⟢​​・・・

S. U. G. A. R. Jump into your racing car! Sugar Rush, Sugar Rush!

It was one late night when I was bored that the idea to combine one of my favorite disney movies and precure occured in my brain, and I’m glad it did! I knew going in that arcades, and of course, racing had to be the main themes in this fanseries since it’s based on Wreck it Ralph’s Sugar Rush racers. AND Because it is SUGAR Rush, and the game and character’s in this afromentioned game are sweets related, I knew the outfits and names for the cures had to follow suit.

It’s a really fun idea and a great homage to one of my favorite films, and I’m glad you all enjoy it too!

​​・・・​​⟢ Favorite Fancure: Vanelope Von Schmitt/Cure Sweets ⟢​​・・・

Speaking of Sugar Rush! Precure, the main lead is of course, our wisecracking candy princess, Vanelope! Coming up with Vanelope’s design was pretty easy, as, you know, her character already exists. But for Cure Sweets, it was a different story. I struggled with her colors a fair bit, and her outfit too! However, in th end, I think I nailed down a design I’m pretty happy with!

Despite Sugar Rush! Precure just being created, and there only being two cures, I was still nominated for best team design for what I already had! I’m really exicited that people seem to like the designs I’ve already come up with! Despite the plan of there being 5 cures in total, Cure Sweets and Cure Taffy are the only two cures for a while, and so I wanted to make sure that they worked as a duo as well as apart of a bigger team.

Ah, Bittersweet X Daydream! Precure. The series in which the first chapter is still being written for about 4 years now. (I’m not even joking, it’s been that long.) And don’t get me started on Cure Sugar’s design timeline.

But for Cure Spice, her design has been the one that’s stayed mostly the same over the years, and I’m proud that this design was nominated for Coolest Cure!

Well, it’s official—I’ve finally unpacked everything, and my office is starting to feel like home! I’m particularly proud of the gallery wall I’ve created, featuring all my favorite Playbills. It’s truly a statement piece, and if you ask nicely, I might even give you a little tour. I believe in surrounding myself with inspiration for my peers and my students alike, and what better way than to showcase the productions that shaped me into the star I am today?

For those of you who don’t know me yet—though I can’t imagine there are many—I’m Rachel Barbara Berry✩, a proud alumna of PSU and now one of your amazing new Performing Arts professors. I’ve spent years on the Broadway stage, honing my craft and living my dream, and now I’m here to help all of you do the same. My journey has been filled with triumphs, challenges, and a few Tony nominations, and I’m excited to bring all of that experience to the classroom.

On another note, does anyone know of a good vegan-friendly coffee place around here? I’m devastated to report that my favorite spot from my student days is no longer around. It’s a tragedy, really. I’m on a quest to find a new place that understands the art of a perfect soy latte, so any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

I’m eager to get to know all of you and hear about your own passions and ambitions. Feel free to stop by my office anytime—for advice, a chat about musical theater, or just to admire my Playbill collection. Let’s make this semester one for the books!!
