I like the new twist on the bury you gays trope

They are still dead, but we unburied them. Their ghosts are now haunting the narrative forever. Yeah they are still being gay and dramatic but they have eternity to figure it out. Literally can not get rid of these gays now. They don't even have bodies to bury. Can't send em to superhell they'll climb right back out.

I'm going to copy paste what I said on Discord, because I don't have the energy to rephrase this and I intend after this to move on with my life and enjoy my family, so.

The thing is. This death won't affect whether this will be a good fantasy show or not. After all, they wanted the new GoT, and that show did a lot worse. I'm sure many viewers (even among book readers!) won't be bothered by this, and the writers & co will probably cut a bunch of stuff from the books and still make a TV show that somehow works. A lot of people who are now watching because the show is getting mainstream will probably still enjoy it.

The part that I'm mad about is that WoT deliberately positioned itself as a queer-friendly & queer-positive show. Rafe had *multiple* interviews with queer content creators. They had a *major* feature article in THR just to talk about queerness. They basically told queer people that they were safe. On top of that, the WoT books are overall a very hopeful fantasy story: yes people go through very tough times, but almost none of the main characters died, and it's very much a light against darkness story. It resembles a lot to LotR on that aspect, and it's very different to doom and gloomy GoT in which people would die as soon as you get attached to them.

So when they *decided* to make Moiraine & Siuan canon and to promote it and hype it, then yes, wlw folks thought that maybe finally they'll get to be among the heroes of a fantasy story and get an interesting story across multiple seasons that will then get an hopeful ending, which I personally never got to experience before. But turns out we won't. And that's what I don't like, because it feels like we once again got played for drama and at the end we will be seen as "unreasonable fans dictating what a story should be".

something you learn writing SOCIAL HORROR of any kind is there is just a huge portion of buckaroos who will always think the political things being reflected in art are not real or overblown, and theyre almost always wrong. i believe love wins out, but there ARE scoundrels to battle on our way there

in my first horror novella STRAIGHT the buds are going out to a cabin three years after first annual zombie day because theres a vaccine. theyre acting normal. amount of early reviews docking stars for 'being unrealistic that folks would return to acting normal in just three years' is HILARIOUS now

in BURY YOUR GAYS there are were some folks all the way up until a few weeks ago who would review and say something like 'loved the book but this issue is over. queer media is mainstream'. YET SUDDENLY we now have pride days getting removed from official calendars, gay media deleted, flags banned

so point is IM RIGHT ABOUT EVERYTHING. just kidding. although i am. BUT ACTUALLY my point is that HORROR taps into something SO important. it taps into fear yes, but it also taps into a subliminal deep knowledge that culture KNOWS but most people are not ready to hear yet. it is a MESSENGER genre

maybe that is why i talk to much about connection between PUNK and HORROR. both strong messenger genres, and how fitting that we have whole idioms about 'killing the messenger'. these artistic expressions are often maligned as 'too much' because sometimes the truth is hard to hear and feel and read

all of this is to say I AM SO PROUD to trot here in the world of uncomfortable truths with you. im also deeply honored, and it is fight i will not back down from. fortunately WITH LOVE AS OUR FUEL this is battle we will win. that is a truth i am certain of, so lets HOIST THE FLAG OF LOVE AND TROT ON

'kay, so I just finished Chuck Tingle's Bury Your Gays, and I don't know if it was in the promos or what, but I went in blind, and the Goncharov parallels were not only undeniable, but striking in their poetic implications. Also, the Gonch himself is just fuckin' there, at some point. Good book. Good book.

You know Agatha saying ‘if Billy dies he’ll reincarnate again’ and Agatha becoming a ghost means the two queer main characters of this show functionally cannot be killed off from the MCU and I know we just had a lot of bury your gays but this actually feels like the opposite of that. Plot armor for your gays. Immortal gays.

Bury Your Gays by Chuck Tingle is fantastic. I loved the way it was written and all the references to different pop culture, but the ending was my favourite part by far. I won't spoil anything, but it felt empowering and inspiring. My favourite thing about Chuck Tingle is that you can tell he puts so much love and care into what he writes, and I really felt that with this book. As an aroace, I am so happy that I have Tara as representation because she's amazing

As soon as I read the description of the Black Lamb in Chuck Tingle's "Bury Your Gays", I knew I had to have one. I'm still waiting on some red velcro to come in the mail so I can make a couple tabs to keep the head closed, but I'm pretty happy with it. It's so soft and cuddly and it came out just like I was hoping it would.

Just finished Bury Your Gays and i continue to be so glad Chuck Tingle is writing horror. I had to stare at the wall for like five minutes when i realised what the screenplays were. I am going to return to staring at the wall after this while reliving the last ~50 pages because what an ending

honored by the kind words of asexual buds just now learning about my NOT POUNDED BY series. you should know that while BURY YOUR GAYS is a love letter to fandom and creation, it is also for my ace buds and a rallying cry for ace validity in queer spaces

that is not an AFTERTHOUGHT with the book. when i set out to write BURY YOUR GAYS i was specifically thinking about the ace buckaroos who trotted with chuck and helped guide me through the first few NOT POUNDED BY BOOKS. i wanted to write something to honor their fight
