In the end, they died — but before being martyrs, they had been warriors; and before being warriors, they had been students. Then again, in 1976, it was hard to tell one from the other. But, before being anything else, they were simply James and Lily: two awfully temperamental and stubborn teenagers that, somehow, ended up fighting in the same side of a terrible war. In the end, they died, but this is a story about their lives.

Now, they just had a drunken near-kiss that neither one remembers, they've been named Head Boy and Girl, and they're both wondering how they'll survive their final year at Hogwarts in each others' presence.

"How about a dance," James's voice poured into her ear like honey. James's hand slid from her shoulder to her hand, holding it firmly so she couldn't escape— or go curse Slughorn, which had crossed her mortified mind as they walked to the dance floor. People parted for them, their curious glances slipping from her to James, handsome and confident as he stopped in front of her and formally offered his hand in invitation. Lily was flushed with emotion: embarrassment from the obvious attention; longing for being close to James; pain from being close enough to see the tightness in his gestures, the distance in his gold flecked eyes. Her lip threatened to tremble, her heart thundered, and for a few fragile moments, her body refused to move. But she took his hand, felt him place his other around her waist, and let herself be carried off.

Or - at the end of the war five years ago, Lily Evans was a hollow shell of herself... So she left, without saying goodbye. Now she's back, amidst magical England's finest- and of course James Potter is up to something...

Lily and James Potters’ love was fiery, filled with passion, tragedy, and love. It was not a fast ignition of a flame that proceeded to burn bright. No, it was a flame that was lit on the Hogwarts Express before anyone had joined the compartment. It burned brighter as their years progressed, and it was lit ablaze in their seventh year. It burned vividly until the day they died. Their love was described by many as a light that shined during the darkest parts of the war. This is their story.

Christmastime is hard. ~Lily~ Lily's life has recently exploded. She has moved twice in the last two months, broken up with a man she had thought she was going to marry, and is currently headed home to go to her sister's Christmas time wedding alone. Even though she and her sister argued over giving Lily a plus one quite explosively. And now she's got an asshole neighbor who basically shoved her down the stairs. ~James~ James has been in love with Marlene McKinnon since he was eleven. She has absolutely no interest in him, and his friends have tried just about everything they can think of to dissuade him from pinning for her. And his parents won't stop setting him up with their friends grandchildren. Because they're old and they think James needs help. What if someone were to assume that the two of them were dating when they're spotted in the airport together? What if they didn't correct them? What if they used their easy chemistry and proximity to make Christmastime that much easier for the both of them?

It’s a sharp sound, almost surprised, but it makes her stomach loosen. “You’re special,” he says dryly, finally turning to look at her properly. He watches her for a beat longer than she expects, like he’s searching for something in her face—some answer she doesn’t know how to give. Whatever it is, he seems to find it.

When Lily is awarded her prefect badge in fifth year, they warn her that James Potter has a talent for disappearing... but if that's true, why does he keep coming to her night after night, hoping to be caught?

She loves him like this: sleepy, slap happy, sometimes a bit handsy but willing to meet her where she’s at in the moment. It’s the quiet moments like this that keep her going sometimes, knowing that whatever is happening out there will disappear by the end of the day when they can hold each other again.

“Maybe I’m waiting for the right one,” he says, shrugging lightly, his gaze steady and intent on her. The words catch her off guard, landing heavily in her chest. James works in the Potter Pointe Shop together with his father. Every pointe shoe is an ode to his late mother and ballet dancer Euphemia. When the talented ballet dancer Lily walks in to pick up her shoes, James quickly realises he is completely and utterly lost for her. His father's encouragement only stresses him out more. Someone messes with her pointe shoes during the day of her dress rehearsal and James takes it upon himself do to an emergency delivery. Prequel to the Hinny fic 'Pas de Deux'.

Remus?” Mrs. Potter has now turned to her and Remus and is scrutinizing them like a particularly fascinating puzzle she wants to solve. “Hullo, Mrs. Potter, Mr. Potter,” Remus is slightly pink, and goes even pinker when Mrs. Potter embraces him and plants a kiss on his head with an admonishing “It’s Euphemia, Remus, as you very well know.” Lily wants to melt into the floor.

We aren’t aware of blogs like ours for other pairings, but perhaps our followers can point you in the direction in the comments on this post!

We accept any length Jily fic (so the main pairing/characters are James Potter and Lily Evans), they can be complete or a work in progress. However, it must have been posted or updated from November 1st 2024 onwards to be included in the 2025 list!
