Fascist and pro-Putin propagandists Tucker Carlson and Elon Musk are trying to exploit the fact there're no good English sources on Gonzalo Lira to pass off their narrative that he's some brave dissident persecuted by a cruel tyrannical Zelensky.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gonzalo Lira isn't a journalist. He's a YouTuber. He wasn't arrested for criticizing the Zelensky government (he's been doing it for years), he was arrested on suspicion of collusion with the Russian government.
The fact he's been spreading pro-Russia propaganda and disinformation since the before the war, appeared on Russian state-owned networks, and has a Russian official pleading on his behalf, makes me suspect the same thing.
As for the torture, that is just a straight up fabrication. No source for it whatsoever.
I know the Ukraine war has been bumped off the radar of a lot of people by newer flashier conflicts, but it's still extremely important to support Ukraine and the Ukrainian people against Putin's invasion and his many cronies like Tucker and Elon.

Man goes on epic rant against Paul Krugman over Helene victims, billions to Israel & Ukraine, & America's wars: 'I'm sure Israel with their free healthcare is having a great time with American taxpayer money.[...]And f**k off with the New York Times, the liberal apologists for war & genocide.'

RUSSIA’S SHAM ELECTIONS, where people are “helped” by armed soldiers who check to ensure they vote correctly—or else.
Does this look like they are helping to conduct a fair, peaceful and democratic election process? Or does it look like repressed voters under duress, who are being forced to vote for Putin under threat of armed Russian soldiers? (source) (source) (source)

The fact that russians are openly being genocidal imperialists and constantly playing the victim at the same time is not surprising me at all - they've been like this for literal centuries.
It's the way a lot of the rest of the world keeps kissing their asses no matter what that is frustrating.
The only difference between Putin and Kara-Murza or Yashin is that Putin is at power and they are not. Their actual ideological views are literally the same, and they are not even hiding it.
It is not "Putin's Russia", it's "Russia's Putin". Putin is not the cause of russia's fascism - he is one of its symptoms.
And without actual defeat, without the loss for these imperial ambitions, without russians actually taking the responsibility for their actions and inactions, there will never be any positive change for them.
I already see a lot of foreign journalists and researchers expressing bewilderment and disappointment at that now infamous press-conference from those released russian political prisoners. I have no idea why they were expecting anything else. But maybe more people are opening their eyes to just how deep the problem goes.
I just wish this awakening was way quicker and didn't cost as many human lives...

Did you notice that the segment of tankies who pretend to give a damn about "ukrainian working class" instruct us to "stop fighting the capitalistic war instigated by the usa" and "overthrow the real opressors - the ukrainian government"; but at the same time they never demand russians overthrow their fascist government???

A Story About A Ukrainian Book
Once upon a time, there was a Ukrainian writer of children's stories and poems Volodymyr Vakulenko.
When Russians occupied Izyum - the town he lived in - he hid his manuscripts under a cherry tree in his garden.
One day, Russians came in, took him, and killed him.
Once upon a time, there was a Ukrainian writer Victoria Amelina. She came to Izyum after Ukrainian army liberated it and found Vakulenko's manuscripts and sent them to be published.
One day, when Victoria was showing foreign journalists around in a beautiful city of Kramatorsk, Russian missile flew in the café they were dining in and killed her.
Once upon a time, there was a Ukrainian book publishing agency Vivat. It was one of the biggest in the whole country. Vivat took Volodymyr's manuscripts from Victoria, worked diligently to compile them and published them.
One day, Russian missiles flew in the building, where Vivat publishing agency was, and destroyed it completely.
The End.

May 2 marks the 10th anniversary of one of the biggest crimes of 21st century fascism – the massacre of nearly 50 activists at the House of Trade Unions in Odessa, Ukraine. Despite extensive video and photographic evidence, the Ukrainian government has never prosecuted any of those responsible. This attack on the anti-fascist resistance paved the way for today’s U.S. proxy war against Russia and the Donbass republics.
Read an interview with massacre survivor Alexey Albu of Borotba.

16 reasons we should be very alarmed!
by Dietmar Pichler, disinformation analyst
1. Russia is successfully uniting the anti-Western propaganda bloc. 2. Many naive & non-resilient Westerners are embracing the russian narrative of a "multipolar" world. 3. Disinformation & influence campaigns are not limited to social media. 4. We are ignoring "traditional" propaganda channels (books, events, and agents of influence). 5. Russia and its allies have deeply infiltrated and contaminated our societies with agents of influence, useful idiots, spies—or people who serve both roles... 6. Anti-Western narratives are widespread in the West, in the far left, the far right & even the center. 7. We take democracy for granted and remain unaware of the authoritarian threat. 8. The issue isn't just dictators but also their enablers, partners, and apologists in the West. 9. We refuse to confront collaborators because it is painful to address the issue head-on. 10. If we don't protect our democracy and build resilience, it may soon be too late. Subversive actions by autocratic states like Russia and China are already in full swing. 11. Besides our grave mistake of largely ignoring traditional subversive activities—such as those carried out by paid authors, professors, and former or current politicians—cyberspace is now the main battlefield in the information war. 12. We continue to practice appeasement in various ways, embracing dictators who despise us in the hope they will change, while neglecting our allies who admire our system. 13, One-sided calls for peace and disarmament, which began during the Cold War, may ultimately complete their intended work. 14. The influence and brainwashing of many people through so-called "peace activities" still linger in the minds of many who participated. 15. We lack the politicians, leaders, communicators, and societal resolve bold enough to tackle this challenge and defend the democratic world. 16. Subtle and covert influence is something we almost completely fail to detect!

Now that Canadian parliament has ignited an international conversation about the dark side of Ukrainian nationalism by giving a standing ovation to Waffen-SS veteran Yaroslav Hunka, it might be worth revisiting the role Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland’s grandfather played in recruiting young men like Hunka to the Nazi cause.
During Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky’s September 22 House of Commons visit, Freeland was one of hundreds of parliamentarians who stood to applaud after now-former speaker of the house Anthony Rota announced the presence of a “Ninety-eight-year-old Ukrainian Canadian who fought for Ukrainian independence against the Russians during the Second World War.”
The ensuing controversy must have created a sense of déjà vu for Freeland, who is long overdue for setting the record straight about the nationalist hagiography she’s constructed around her Ukrainian nationalist forebear — if only the media would ask her about it.
Michael Chomiak, Freeland’s maternal grandfather whom she’s repeatedly cited as a political inspiration, edited a Nazi newspaper for Ukrainian exiles in occupied Krakow called Krakivski Visti, which was printed on a press seized from a Jewish owner. [...]

“This brutal war is not only mass murder of people and destruction of the infrastructure, economy, and cultural sites of Ukraine, but also a severe blow to the future of Russia, a country that is now pushed back into totalitarianism, but this time into a fascist totalitarianism.
We are being punished for daring to criticize authority.” —Oleg Orlov
