Tumblr media
If you’ve ever wondered what a Hobbit, an Elf, or a Dwarf might eat in a day’s meals, this cookbook is for you! Whip up some tasty fare with recipes that cover all six mealtimes from the realm of J.R.R. Tolkien. Divided by the time of day, these recipes use modern ingredients and culinary techniques, and American measurements. A great resource for Lord of the Rings parties, this book is a perfect way to experience real food that tastes like a fantasy!
The recipes in this book are awesome, everything I've tried so far has been super tasty!

//So... I've started working on a fantasy cookbook sort of thing, it contains short stories and recipes, think the Witcher cookbook sort of style. It's loosely related to my main novel, meaning it's set in the same universe and some of the characters from my main novel show up too, such as László the retired sellsword/monster hunter turned innkeeper, and Aenor the crown prince, etc. The question is though, should I write it in English or Hungarian... So here is a poll about it; because I honestly can't decide 😂

Full review under the cut!
Aurum Leuci’s Log:
[Begin recording.] Uh, hi. It’s Chef Aurum Leuci again, late… still. Are you sure you fixed the portal coordinates? Because this is NOT the culinary facility. Everything is cubes. I think I might actually be in a computer, because, uh.. when I say everything is cubes, I mean everything is cubes. I’m fine, and my gear is fine, and everything I make is fine, but I’m on an island full of giant pixelated-looking mushrooms, and pixelated… cow… things? With mushrooms growing on them.
…those could probably make a delicious meal, actually. Don’t worry about me, I’m going to see what I can cook up for some quick dinner. This weird new dimension might be a place worth exploring. As always, no need to worry. If I get into a sticky situation, I’ll jump dimensions again— but hopefully I’ll at least have time to eat.
If it’s good, I’ll be sure to bring some back to the lab for you. Aurum Leuci out. [End log.]
Please see this post for my full review scale!
Main Dish: Mooshroom Burger
RATING:
Difficulty: 5/5
Ingredients: 5/5
Immersion: 4/5
Time: 5/5
End Result: 4/5
TOTAL RATING: 23/25
I love this recipe, and so does my entire family. It’s a delicious swiss-and-mushroom burger that’s easily made completely plant-based using Impossible Beef and Daiya cheese- and it always turns out SO good! The reason this recipe isn’t quite perfect is twofold, so let me start with the somewhat sillier reason first: I WANT THIS BURGER IN MY GAME!!! Please!! We have the technology (bread, mushrooms, cooked beef). Give me the mooshroom burger, Mojang. Or at least a sandwich of some kind. The second point off is a matter of personal preference; the original recipe makes four absolutely MASSIVE burgers. Like, big enough that my family (all four of us) could barely finish them the first time I made this. I highly recommend cutting the recipe (and the resulting two, still massive, burgers) in half. Aside from that, this recipe was perfect (and delicious!) and very satisfying.
Side Dish: Roasted Crops
RATING:
Difficulty: 5/5
Ingredients: 5/5
Immersion: 5/5
Time: 4/5
End Result: 5/5
TOTAL RATING: 24/25
This recipe is another one I wish I could rate absolutely perfect. It’s easy, the ingredients are easy to get but relatively uncommon in most dishes, and the end result tastes incredible! This recipe made me love carrots, and it resulted in me even agreeing to TRY beets, which is a huge feat. The only point it loses is that the cookbook drastically underestimates prep time for cutting and peeling the vegetables. Especially if you’re not used to handling beets, they’re messy and will definitely freak you out at least once when the juice gets on your hands. Honestly, though, this cookbook was worth buying JUST for this recipe. It’s a consistent hit with my family.
Tune in next Wednesday (6/12/24) for another fandom cookbook review!

the witcher official cookbook is good of course, but i am fully aware of myself that i bought this not for its recipes, but entirely just to read maybe like, a little less than four pages of sapkowski talking about how much he likes making soup

THAT'S IT!
IT IS TIME to revisit this since Ignis's birthday is right around the corner.
This was a massive and SUPER FUN project years back (omg time flies) where many FFXV fans from all over joined forces to create this cookbook masterpiece! Contains all of the mainline FFXV recipes.
You can download the PDF version (free!) or order a book version (money goes toward the print house, NOT anyone else). @cooking--with--ignis was our master of coordination and I am still SO grateful they did this!
(Plus I contributed 4 tasty recipes that you should try.)
Happy Cooking!

really tragic there was a whole complex fan project to make a xena themed cookbook that while totally insane is completely lacking in two vital xena cookbook concepts which is one a hippie friendly sprouted seeds and nut bread edible for those so insane and health minded they would never let a brownie touch their lips and also as tribute to gabrielle eating the drugged nut bread that makes u gayer in altared states and then a drink that can be served with or without alcohol thats like a mix of every single juice you have in your cupboard called xenas juices subheading can we cook with your juices ok bows and scurries away

i'm quite fond of licensed cookbooks.
it's just a charmingly niche product to put out, and food and cooking is just an innately loving thing, that the act of compiling recipes for fans in an official capacity is cool.
also, it's funny to see how intensely corporations try to milk every conceivable cent they can get.
Tumblr media
there's your 'we have a crafting class dedicated to cooking, so this makes sense' cookbooks. (skybuilder stew is very, very good)
Tumblr media
the 'yeah, there's sufficient food talk to justify recipes' cookbooks
Tumblr media
the 'is food really what people take away from this franchise?' cookbooks
Tumblr media
and the 'this makes total sense, but why publish it in 2023!?' cookbooks.
anyways, i'm always happy to hear about what (officially licensed!) cookbooks are out there. i'm holding out hope for story of seasons and/or rune factory cookbooks someday.

Behold! My Final Fantasy VIII-themed Dinner
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In case anyone is curious...
Cocktail - Quezacotl's Thunderstorm
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pretty simple - Vodka, orange juice, (meyer) lemon juice, and plain seltzer served in a light-up novelty glass. (not pictured: the logo on one side for the Christmas event it came from LOL
Appetizers - Mini Hot Dogs and a Balamb Garden Salad
Tumblr media
Each ingredient of this salad is representative of a different enemy that you fight in Balamb Garden at some point. There's iceberg lettuce (glacial eye), Radicchio (Grat), grape tomatoes (Bombs - the red ones are literally called sugar bombs), honey goat cheese (Granaldo), candied walnuts (raldo), green goddess dressing (green like caterchipillar), and tajin (something with a bite for bite bugs). I think this would have come together better if I had made the dressing, but I will be happy to have this for the lunch for the rest of the week.
The mini hot dogs were frozen from a box lol.
Side Dishes - Malboro Tentacles and Mashed Norg
Tumblr media
The Malboro Tentacles are extremely tender, slowly cooked asparagus with A LOT of garlic (need that bad breath), and some chili flakes for spice. I also threw in some soy sauce for color. This is exactly how I imagined they would be when I set out to make them, so I am pretty happy about it.
Tumblr media
Norg - pointless boss, great side dish. These are pretty basic buttermilk mashed potatoes but I wanted to maximize the yellowness. I used yukon gold potatoes (even peeled them, which I never usually do), a dash of tumeric, and lots of butter. That wasn't quite yellow enough so I dug to the back of my spice cabinet and found the saffron I was given as a gift and can never seem to find a meal special enough to use it for. HONESTLY, these were so good. Definitely going to do this again.
Entree - T-Rexuar Steak
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was REALLY worried making these. I've made steak before but I usually use pretty simple seasoning. But for a T-Rexaur, I wanted the outside of the steak to be reminiscent of a T-Rexuar hide. So I actually marinaded the steak in a Tikka-like sauce (paprika, cayenne, tumeric, ginger, garlic, lemon, yogurt) because I was looking for redness. I have NEVER put yogurt on steak before - YIKES what a risk. When I took them out to come to room temperature before cooking them, I patted excess marinade off and added a generous amount of salt, paprika, chili powder and garlic in hopes of creating a redish crust. Then I seared them.
Guys. I don't know if it was the marinade or what but this is some of the best steak I've ever made... or even had. The crust was excellent and the steak was so tender. Def getting a permanent +1 to strength for this one.
Stay tuned for dessert!
