The Larsen’s would let their family inherit a little extra money, in which Scott and Marla would use to get a plane ticket to visit their grandparents after the siblings’ father convices their grandparents to let them stay because they have nowhere else to go (like in the book).

Stan has probably lived there his whole life because Patton would’ve lived there to better guard the font of immortality instead of staying at fablehaven with the other artifact. I would like to think that he found out the location of the Font Of Immortality and realized he was a risk factor if Zzyzx were to be opened, which is why he relocated to protect it. If Stan’s immortal, he probably hasn’t been immortal that long, but I’d think he’s staying alive until he can find a decent heir to the Living Mirage

Patton originally came from fablehaven, which is why Lena is at the Living Mirage, because she came with him

Since The Sphinx wouldn’t be immortal, his ancestors likely guarded the Font for a long time until they got reassigned (and memory wiped?) by Patton. This is why he’s at fablehaven, and not trying to open Zzyzx, because his backstory would be different. Perhaps there’s a rich history left by his ancestors at the Living Mirage (probably magical to invoke more emotion) which is about their plans to open Zzyzx. Stan would find it, and be convinced to open the prison, along with the usual logic of “All prisons can be broken out of therefore you need to open this one before someone else does”

(Patton wouldn’t have been memory wiped to forget where the font was because he knows he would figure it out again)

Idk if this answers anything or causes more questions. I haven’t actually fully fleshed out this AU so there are probably better ideas for some of this, so nothing is final.

Fablehaven AU where they live at the Living Mirage instead

ideas for it: - Instead of hugo they use stingbulbs to help them get their chores done - Most of the chores include tending to the trees and other exotic plants, but Grandpa Sorenson won’t let them near the super dangerous ones - Seth likes to venture out to see the Rocs, despite his grandfather’s warning - He also (secretly) visits the dungeon. First time he went he he found the rec room, and beat the highscore on all the pinball machines - when he went back he had found that someone had beaten all his scores - The Sphinx guards fablehaven instead, and a lot of the creatures there might work for him - I don’t know if they would swap the artifacts, or if Grandpa Sorenson is some immortal guy who may or may not be trying to open a demon prison - If Grandpa Sorenson is evil, then instead of journeying to the other artifacts to protect them, Kendra and Seth would unknowingly be trying to open the demon prison - or maybe they do know, and think that their Grandpa’s cause is plausible until The Sphinx or Vanessa or Bracken or someone convinces them - Vanessa would still work for the Sphinx. Bracken is in Stan’s basemen- I mean dungeon

[Camera cuts to the gardens outside with Vanessa and Seth. Vanessa wears a look of confusion.]

Vanessa: I'm supposed to say something about someone? Who?

[Camera cuts to just Vanessa]

Vanessa: I'm passing the phone to someone who reads his horoscope every month.

[Camera cuts to Warren in the living room of the main house.]

Warren: I'm passing the phone to someone with a bedazzled shotgun.

Dale [voice shouted from far distance]: That was a gift!

[Seth takes camera from Warren, the view up his nose.]

Seth: You weren't supposed to hear that!

[Camera cuts to just Dale.]

Dale: I’m passing the phone to someone who has snuck away more times than I can count.

[Camera cuts to just Seth]

Seth: I'm passing the phone to someone who spent time as a chicken.

[Kendra appears in view, wrestling the phone away.]

Kendra: Seth! Absolutely not.

Seth: What?

Fablehaven is a work of art. It’s the worst thing I have ever read. The character development is some of the best ever written. The character development is absolute garbage. The magic system is so cool. The magic system is a trainwreck. The plot is so good. Theres so many plotholes. Why does he write romance Like That. Oh he's mormon ok. The villains are amazing. The villains are so badly written. It has good representation. Its super fucking weird about its minority characters. It has actually well written female characters. What the fuck is Kendra's inner monologue. I love it. I hate it. I can fix it. Its unfixable. It fights against the trope of light being good and dark being bad. Wait nevermind actually yeah no it does not. I love the characterization. They would not fucking say that. Oh my god why are they naked.

Rereading fablehaven has reminded me that Seth canonically enjoys painting and hates jigsaw puzzles and I am very happy that I get to relearn that about him

something i really enjoy and that i don't really see anyone commenting about is how Kendra's inner monologue is so often accidentally funny. like sometimes you'll read something from a Seth chapter and you can tell it was purposely written to get a little snort out of you, but Kendra will casually hit you with the most insane train of thought. it gets me everytime when the Teenage Girl Realness seeps through the narration

I’ll admit tho it was sus with the spiders escaping but i gave my girl the benefit of the doubt BUT this scene gave ominous for no reason?!?? Like what do you mean by that😟??

Also i fully subscribe to the idea that Vanessa lost whatever feelings (if any😹) she had for Errol after seeing Warren. I KNOW SHE WAS BLUSHING WHEN SHE SAW HIM I JUST KNOW IT. Girl left him for dead the moment he started becoming baggage NOT EVEN A TEAR WAS SHED OR A GLANCE SPARED!
