When you’ve been the family caretaker soooo long, you don’t know how to “be your own person”. So long your identity was in others. Not everyone understands how lost you are. How easily you hide yourself in one-sided relationships with toxic people because you don’t have to find yourself. You just focus on the other person.
I found myself marrying a really nice guy which is GREAT accept idk who I am and for the first time, I don’t wanna be “him.” I don’t wanna be like him… I wanna be my own. I know what hobbies I have…. That’s not a “true identity” though.

Prompt 293
Jason takes a deep breath. He takes a deep breath, in for ten seconds, out for eight, and just takes a minute before looking again. Nope, there’s still the strange quartet of orbs in the box of what should be stolen weapons (What, the government had enough, honestly) that gave his workers the heebie-jeebies.
Which is not the vibe he gets from them. In fact, he’s actually kind of concerned with how much he has to beat the Pit back with how quickly it lurches to latch onto the… Well they’re not gems, and he’s a little wary about touching them at first, but the Pit does seem to settle when he does.
Alright, he can deal with this. It’s not like he has several heads in a duffel bag that needs to be delivered or a tiny assassin child back in his safehouse (Seriously Talia, why was he the preferred babysitter?) or an entire gang in Crime Alley to deal with. It’ll be fine.
He would like to curse out his past self, because there’s now four babies in his safehouse that appeared to have fucking hatched from the orbs. Goddamnit.

claps my hands
chilchuck is an ADULT
he should not be compared to those series that make a 1000 year old character look like they're 8
because chilchuck does have signs of aging, is shown to, in the perspective of others of his race, be maturing
it is OK to ship him with another character!
for christs sake his kids are also considered grown adults
it sucks cause like, real life people with developmental disabilities get told they're never going to be able to express themselves sexually or their partners are considered evil, but they deserve to have just as much of a chance at love as others!
chilchuck acts and looks more mature than my 15 year old tall grown up looking cousin, and thats the difference! appearance shouldnt matter, chronologic age should be the only factor. not only is chilchuck older the adult age of his race, but hes also considered way over adult age in human years too!
please please just be normal about chilchuck i beg

Classic "promised-at-birth-to-the-Ghost-King" story, except the contract never states how, exactly, the King is to use the offered soul. Usually, one would be offered as a bride or sacrifice. But with Pariah Dark sealed away, his retainers got a little lazy in the last few millennia. They just made some generic contracts and practically handed them out like candy.
When Danny took over as king via conquest, that included all the weird and messed up soul contracts the previous retainers had signed. And since ghost magic was a thing and seemed to have it out for Danny personally, many of these contracts updated their terms and conditions as soon as that crown hit Danny's head, reflecting the new King's subconscious desires and personality.
This caused many issues with those still around to profit from these contracts. Some people lost their power, some gained more, and some were unbound and kicked to the curb. A few special people found themselves dropping dead after their less-than-ethical abilities disappeared.
Danny was unaware of the chaos he had unintentionally caused for quite a while. It was only brought to his attention when a letter arrived on his desk one day with a copy of someone's valid contract enclosed. The new changes have been highlighted, and a separate note is attached.
It seems that in exchange for blessings of near-immortality for her infant son, a mother had offered Pariah Dark both their souls in order to ensure her child's survival during harsh times. (The souls were to be collected upon death and were to be used as soldiers in the King's Army.) The mother's soul had returned to the Keep decades ago and was recently assigned to tend to the gardens, while her son seemed to have grown into a fine gentleman and was still alive. He used his mother's gifts to serve his country and loved ones well, it seemed.
At first, Danny didn't see what any of this had to do with him. If the mother was already a part of his kingdom, and the son would be eventually, why was a letter about the whole thing showing up before him?
Then he read the revised contract, which bore his magical signature. A signature that overruled the power of Pariah and binding it to him.
'...and as such, in return for the abilities stated above, [Mary Pennyworth] and [Alfred Pennyworth] will fulfill the conditions detailed below, upon pain of Ending.
[Mary Pennyworth], when returned to the Kingdom of Dark Kingdom of Stars, will work as a lieutenant in the Skeleton Army caretaker in the Gardens of Pluto.
STATUS: COMPLETED
[Alfred Pennyworth], when returned to the Kingdom of Dark Kingdom of Stars, will work as a general in the Skeleton Army caretaker of the King and his Court.
STATUS: PENDING'
Danny had to re-read the contract several times to understand what it was saying. He now had a caretaker? What did a caretaker do? Was it like a ghost parent? Could this guy ghost-ground him??
He sighed and pressed the speed dial on his phone for Tucker. Time to find out who the hell this Alfred Pennyworth guy was, and how to break a magic contract when it wasn't even fulfilled yet.
Meanwhile, Alfred had just found the original copy of the contract amongst his mother's belongings after it glowed and drew him in. The paperwork cleared up a lot of mysteries he'd always wondered about himself, even if he disapproved of his mother's methods. Nonetheless, he smoothed out the aged paper with dark green ink, noted the fresh (sloppy, a teenager?) signature, and began preparing to meet this supposed new King and his Court.
It wouldn't hurt to make introductions before he died, after all.

What fucks with me is an evil, despicable character, lost and alone while violently ill – abandoned without anyone to care for them... And then someone Finds them.
Someone who has no connection to them or isn't even remotely aware of their actions. To them, it's just a stranger that looks to be on the brink of death. As the villain, who's got more blood on their hands than they can brag about spilling, collapses onto the ground, this person rushes to them, completely unaware they're about to save the life of someone who's not worth their time.
However, I'm tired of this trope ending up with the villain back to their old ways in an instant. If that's your thing, sure – but I always find it annoying. Sometimes, I think, it takes a monster facing its own death to realize they should treat people better – were it not for mere coincidence, death would have swallowed them whole.
Instead, it only got to graze them – because someone cared. For once, someone cared, and the villain didn't plan to use it against them.
Villain isn't a whumper. I don't like that dynamic.

~ I GOT YOU ~ PROTECTIVE PROMPTS
Tumblr media
requested by: @rainywolfden & anonymous request: protective prompts. especially some family based ones, but just scenarios where one character thinks they need to protect another character would be nice
Feel free to use and reblog!
defending the other when someone says something only slightly criticising about them
"You take that back!"
jumping in front of the other, no matter whether they're being physically or verbally attacked
putting a hand on the other's shoulder to show their support
not accepting hate/critique of the other because no one knows their real struggle
"I actually think A is doing a great job. You shouldn't judge when you know nothing."
getting furious when someone takes advantage of the other's weaknesses
noticing the other struggle without them having to say a word
always feeling responsible to protect their younger sibling(s)
never letting their children out of sight because something could happen in these two seconds
"Leave my baby alone!"
accompanying the other home at night
looking out for potential dangers all the time
comforting the other as soon as they're alone
"Hey! What did you just say to my sibling/child/friend/etc.?!"
seeking the one who hurt the other to take revenge
"You messed with the wrong one!"
not leaving the other's side 'just in case'
only stepping in when the other can't handle it anymore
"You've got some real nerve."

healing emotional abuse has been sad but it’s an every day walk ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹
10/19/24 healing journal
I remember when I was about 13, maybe 14, I was with my mom at the grocery store and I was having pains in my legs and I complained to my mom and she basically said that it’s “growing pains” that it’s part of life and there was nothing she could do for it and basically I just had to go through it and that it would be OK, but that I just had to kind of “suffer it out”………
So I often wonder of all the pain that I had to endure in school, and in being the family caretaker and of course, my exes’ being toxic and abusive… Was I just to “suffer it all out?” I have tried…… I have truly suffered and kept it together!! I know I haven’t done it on my own I believe that God has helped me through so much or I wouldn’t have made it this far. It sucks though!! 😣😢
Emotional abuse is real and is damaging physically/mentally. It is something that you can heal from and get through but healing those emotional wounds is so frustratingly hard and sad. The sadness in my heart has been unreal. It’s not depression. I’ve been depressed before this is different. this doesn’t keep you from your life, but it is seemingly always there under the surface And you feel it so you try not to judge yourself and you’re trying to tell yourself that it’s “gonna be OK” because what else are you supposed to tell yourself?
what else are you supposed to say or do? You just have to love yourself and keep moving forward. sure, I wanted my exes to love me so so so so much!!! I wanted their love to be real. I wanted them to be real. I wanted to love them back. I tried to find love with them… But they are sooooooo difficult! Forgiveness is a process and every day is another day to say I still forgive them and I still set them free to live their lives however they choose against whatever they’ve done to me. It’s in the past and I have to keep going forward. It’s not just a walk in the park. It’s a whole entire transformation taking place inside of my heart, soul and mind!
It’s one day at a time and some days you can only put a toe down. You can’t hardly put a whole step down some days but you need to know that it’s OK. It really truly is OK. It wasn’t your fault. Just because they couldn’t love you, doesn’t mean someone else can’t love you and you need to remind yourself daily that you are loved and cared for and that there is nothing wrong with you!!!! I’ve been trying so very hard to give myself as much grace as I’ve had for my exes. I’m trying so hard to extend that same grace to myself and it’s not been easy 😔🥺 Reprogramming your mind is relearning how to love and appreciate yourself . ❤️‍🩹🫶🏻

parental caretaker and kid writing prompts
- younger kid standing on their caretaker's shoes and rocking around. almost like they're dancing or waltzing.
- the thing where the caretaker pulls the kid closer to them by like wrapping their hand around their head and covering their ear and tucking them against them.
- kid sitting on caretaker's shoulders. always a good one.
- "shh, shh, I know, I know"
- any sort of "take me instead" situation, said by either character. devastating.
- dealing with sickness. like obviously the kid getting sick and accidentally calling their caretaker mum/dad/parent in their feverish delirium is super cute and top tier.
- BUT ALSO. hear me out. caretaker getting sick but trying to push through to look after their kid and their kid works super hard to make their job easier or look after them in small ways.
- kid hiding for some reason (minor anxiety or major trauma or anything in between) and the caretaker comforting them or trying to coax them out.
- caretaker sweeping kid up in a big ole bear hug and spinning em around.
- kid hiding behind caretaker.
- "you should be in bed" "I can't sleep" "...alright, get over here, you can stay up for five more minutes"
- caretaker and a maybe slightly older kid arguing and making up.
- caretaker picking up slightly older kid from a party that's gone wrong in some way.
- caretaker who's maybe less like a parent and more like an older sibling. they take their kid to abandoned buildings and eat cheap takeaway/takeout with them.
- caretaker teaching their slightly older kid life skills that they maybe didn't have the chance to pick up on when they were younger.
- or yk just caretaker teaching their younger kid life skills. like trying to get them involved with cooking and lifting them up to help grab things and letting them watch things get cut up and prepared.
- caretaker indulging their younger kid in tea parties with their stuffed animals.
- caretaker looking after a kid's comfort items (bonus point if the kid is older, and double bonus points if the kid is too embarrassed to care for their comfort items themselves).
- younger kid curled up by their caretaker while their caretaker plays videogames. bonus points if the caretaker lets them play like baby mode co-op (like luma in mario galaxy). bonus bonus points if the caretaker is like an older sibling and gives the kid an unplugged controller.
- older kid playing co-op with their caretaker and getting way too invested. bonus points if it's mario kart. bonus bonus points if they're showing each other their favourite games from their respective childhoods (because yk different eras).
- caretaker carrying an exhausted kid to bed.
- better yet, the kid pretends to fall asleep in the car so they can be carried inside (caretaker knows their game but is more than happy to carry them).
- caretaker having a hard day working late and coming home to their kid sleeping peacefully on the couch, clearly having waited for them to come home.
- kid having a hard day at school and caretaker is in the middle of making dinner for them.
- caretaker shielding kid from danger with their body.
- kid refusing to leave caretaker's side when they're both in danger.

I like the found family trope as much as the next person but it really irks me to see so many dynamics forced into replicating the nuclear family. That’s not even an original take. Other people have said it. It just bugs me in particular since I really hate it when this dynamics results in uneven emotional labor between characters who should be equals otherwise

I love it when a high-status caretaker adopts a nobody whumpee. I also love a high-status whumpee getting adopted by a nobody caretaker, who has no idea who whumpee is, but whumpee adores it because someone is treating them like a normal person for the first time.

Classic tropes/prompts in parental stories <3
The kid wakes up in the middle of the night because of nightmares and is too scared to sleep by themselves, so they sneak into their parental figure's bedroom, begging them to sleep together
Hide and Seek
Parental figure carrying the kid piggyback
Tickle fights! (no need for explanations, that's just adorable qwq)
Kid falls asleep somewhere and the caretaker finds them, bringing them to their bed
Caretaker and the child fall asleep on the couch together while watching a movie <3
Caretaker takes the kid to a fair, playground, restaurant or shopping, just spending the day and having fun together
Winter! (picture snowball fights, sleighing, buliding a snowman, hot chocolate, baking cookies, Christmas presents)
On a cold winter day Caretaker notices that the child is freezing so they draw a gentle smile and say: "Come here", pulling them under their coat to warm them up
Caretaker gives the kid their clothes, which are waaay too large for them so they are sitting there in a oversized sweater and Caretaker rolls up their sleeves
(and for a bit o' whump :D) Child gets injured/sick and the caretaker has to tend to their wounds or nurse them back to health
Stargazing together or catching some fireflies (I have a soft spot for that one <3)
Or just both of them cuddling under a blanket in front of the fireplace while rain and thunder is rumbling outside :3
