I was returning from a trip to the magicless realm with my sister and my love. I started flying too close to the trees, despite their warnings, and my wing was caught on a branch and torn. I fell many feet to the earth below.

My torn wing meant I could no longer fly and it hurt deeply, which is why I cut them off. Now I have no wings, no magic, and no idea how far I am from home.

Lose yourself in Mourningwood Creek

This phrase is emblazed on postcards and brochures found at pit stops along the long road that leads into the dense wooded dirt road into town. Nestled between the forests and a seemingly endless lake, between a blanching sunlight and thick fog that rolls in and out, Mourningwood Creek exists mostly by itself. You wouldn't know its present year at first glance. The town seems trapped between multiple decades with a mix matched architecture and technology used around town.

Families have lived in town for generations, some since the very founding of Mourningwood Creek. Local sayings decree that people may leave town for a bit, for an hour or for years, but something always brings them back here - like a gravity well that sucks them back in eventually. Perhaps that's why one of the largest tourism locations is the historic graveyard, believed to be one of the largest regularly expanding in the country. Everyone born here gets buried here eventually....

Zach Welhouse's Cerebos: The Crystal City is a GM-optional collaborative storytelling game about a group of travellers riding a train to their titular destination. Along the way, you'll stop at various surreal locales – drawn from a pair of 78-card decks with contributions by numerous guest writers – and discover more about the travellers' pasts, eventually uncovering the purpose of their journey and the true nature of the Crystal City. I served as editor and crowdfunding organiser.

Costume Fairy Adventures, meanwhile, is an older title whose system you may recognise as a very early prototype of the one found in my own forthcoming Eat God. Its premise is similar, in that you're a bunch of goofy little critters with cartoon super powers going around causing problems on purpose, though a typical session's rating skews a little more G-rated. I served as lead developer and head rules-monkey on this one, alongside several other writers you might have bumped into here on Tumblr, including @astrakiseki and @dizzyhslightlyvoided.

Both are 50% off until January 3rd. The sale on Costume Fairy Adventures also includes several supplementary playsets, if you already have it from one of the various charity bundles it's appeared in and want to round out your collection.

Making masks & shifting forms

In your Wolf form, you have access to the benefits of your beastly Attributes, can sing magical Spellsongs, and can resist harm with your Resolve. In your Mortal form, you'll switch your Attributes, Spellsongs, and Resolve out for strong, flexible Mortal Powers that can turn the tide of any situation they're used in. Through character advancement, you can strengthen yourself as you see fit. Perhaps you favor one form over the other, or you may switch between them frequently. The choice is yours.

The Enchanted Forest

As you explore this dense forest you'll meet the powerful and mysterious Queens and aid them, and their courts, through all manner of quests and favors. As a werewolf, you're uniquely gifted in traversing the forest, capable of making it to every edge of the woods, meaning that only you can learn its deepest secrets.

A flavor guide for some of the cookies, which can actually provide some insight into their ancestry!

Gingerbrave was made by a witch, so we're ignoring that.

Dark Choco Cookie tastes like an oreo, which makes sense. The cookies of the Dark Cacao Kingdom tend to bake their offspring with a mix of chocolate and cream.

Herb Cookie tastes like Matcha, which isn't surprising since matcha is common for cookies descended from Healthy Hamlet or other nature-based locations.

Dark Enchantress Cookie tastes like enchanted berries, which are probably pomegranate (one of her ingredients is pomegranate syrup). Pomegranate's in Earthbread tend to have a magic to them, so it makes sense she'd taste like pomegranate.

Eclaie Cookie tastes like... Eclair, obviously, but this guide mentions Birthday cake. I just think that's neat, though, it doesn't lead us to mutch with ancestry. But, he is most likely descended from Vanillians.

Sea Fairy Cookie tastes like fruit pebbles. The Coral in Earthbread tends to be made from that, and her dough contains Coral, so it makes sense.

Dark Cacao Cookie has a saltiness to his chocolate. Despite being the founder of the kingdom, he originally went to those mountains in order to beat the Black and White Dragon. The predesecors of the Dark Cacao most likely lived by the sea, which would result in having sea salt in their dough (you need to remember these ancients are old as FUCK. Mosr Dark Cacao cookies no longer have salt in their dough, but he still does, because he's an OG Dark Cacao).

Cotton Cookie's dough contains the diarrhea combo; milk and honey. Honey is surprising, since colder villages like Snowfall Village tend to not have honey due to the lack of jellybees, and it's harder to import items to them because of their harsh living conditions. Perhaps her parents got lucky and somehow got ahold of honey, which they used in her dough?

The milk could also be an indicator that she's descended from the Milk Tribe. She already has milk traits (pale dough, lightly colored eyes, white hair), so it's not too far off.

I was young then, not more than five. It was the night after the fireflies left to go make mischief in your world, as they do every year.

Perhaps it was the absence of the lantern bearers' absence that stole away my notice of the abyss forming around me.

Right now the fireflies are still in your realm, although I doubt that changes the darkness much where I am because I am not home.

Some nights I find bioluminescent plants.
