Creating a Safe Haven: The Importance of Natural Cleaners in Our Homes
Tumblr media
Hello dear homemakers and health enthusiasts! Today, let's dive into a topic that's close to my heart as both a homemaker and a naturopathic geek: the importance of using safe and natural cleaners in our homes. In our quest to create a clean and welcoming environment for our families, it's essential that we prioritize not just cleanliness, but also the health and well-being of our loved ones. Let's explore the impact of conventional cleaning products on our health, particularly on cognition and toxicity, and discover the transformative power of natural alternatives.
First and foremost, the hidden dangers lurking in many conventional cleaning products. From harsh chemicals and synthetic fragrances to toxic fumes and irritants, these products can wreak havoc on our health, compromising indoor air quality and posing risks to our respiratory system, skin, and overall well-being. But perhaps most concerning of all is the impact of these chemicals on our children, who are particularly vulnerable to their effects.
You see, kids have a knack for getting into everything—including cleaning products. Whether it's curious toddlers exploring under the sink or adventurous preschoolers mistaking colorful bottles for toys, the risk of accidental ingestion or exposure to harmful chemicals is all too real. And the consequences can be dire, ranging from mild irritations and allergic reactions to more serious health issues such as respiratory problems, neurological effects, and even poisoning.
But fear not, dear friends, for there is a solution: the transformative power of natural cleaners. By harnessing the cleansing power of nature's bounty—think vinegar, baking soda, essential oils, and plant-based detergents—we can effectively clean our homes without compromising our health or the environment. These gentle yet effective alternatives not only leave your home sparkling clean but also provide peace of mind, knowing that you're creating a safe and healthy haven for your family to thrive in.
Moreover, natural cleaners offer a myriad of benefits beyond their safety profile. They're environmentally friendly, biodegradable, and free from harmful chemicals and toxins, making them a sustainable choice for eco-conscious homemakers. Plus, they often boast antimicrobial, antifungal, and antibacterial properties, helping to combat germs and pathogens without the need for harsh chemicals or synthetic additives.
Let's make a pledge to prioritize the health and safety of our families by embracing the transformative power of natural cleaners. Let's banish harmful chemicals from our homes and replace them with gentle yet effective alternatives that nourish both body and soul. Together, we can create a clean, welcoming, and truly safe haven for our loved ones to thrive in. Here's what I'm using and loving here in the cozy little cabin.
Here's an amazing recipe I created to make your own homemade cleaner at home:
Lavender Lemonade Sparkle Spray:
Ingredients:
1 cup distilled water
1/4 cup white vinegar
10 drops lavender essential oil
5 drops lemon essential oil
1 tablespoon witch hazel
1 teaspoon liquid castile soap
Instructions:
In a clean spray bottle, combine the distilled water and white vinegar.
Add the lavender and lemon essential oils, along with the witch hazel and liquid castile soap.
If desired, add a splash of rubbing alcohol for extra cleaning power and sparkle.
Secure the spray bottle cap and shake well to mix all ingredients thoroughly.
Your Lavender Lemonade Sparkle Spray is now ready to use! Simply spritz onto surfaces and wipe clean with a cloth for a fresh, sparkling finish that leaves behind a delightful aroma of lavender and lemon.
Enjoy the unique blend of calming lavender and refreshing lemon as you clean your home, turning chores into a fragrant and uplifting experience.
Enjoy!
Love, Kimmi

I know it's normal and a natural response to independence but the fact that I tend to make what my mom would call bad decisions and get myself little treats (like an ice cream cone or coffee from a coffee shop) whenever my parents aren't around still makes me feel like I'm a horrible person who's a glutton and unwise and going to cause so much inflammation in my body that I keel over and die from a heart attack by the age of 30

my first job was working at an independent boutique where my family had been shopping for years and the owner always told me when I turned 16 I would work there so I turned 16 and went to work there and she wasn't kidding. and the first thing I did on my first day was read a book about the healing properties of essential oils. this was the most important thing to her. she never taught me how to check people out and I worked there for two years but I did read a book called "the coconut oil miracle". please note the store did not sell essential oils or coconut oil so idk

Apparently there's a Dutch essential oil company who is putting recipes on pinterest for "morphine" and "paracetamol" which are PURE oils that you put in a capsule and then take every few hours.
They also recommend to give their anti stress blend to your child IN AN INHALOR to take to school.
So here's you annual reminder that essential oils are dangerous and should not be taken internally or topically without consulting a professional herbalist and/or you doctor
(And yes, I did report them for medical misinformation)

The replacement for Apollo's candle had been delayed for a while, but had been slated to be shipped out last Monday, so I'd promised Apollo and Hermes that I would light it in thanks for a recently completed divination session after it arrived. Turns out that it didn't ship until this past Friday and was slated to be delivered on Wednesday, which I mentioned while doing the prayers to close out yesterday's divination session to acknowledge that I remembered my promise.
It arrived two days early! I burned it as soon as I could after I got home, and now I can light Apollo's candle during divination sessions instead of Hermes' (which burnt his down quite a bit) or a tealight. Hail Hermes for the swift delivery!

it sucks so much ass that i can’t use any of my paintings for my portfolio because they’re all fanart :( you might say ‘oh jey, why don’t you just paint other things?’ very easy answer to that. i don’t want to :) i paint for myself and i don’t want to have to do things i won’t enjoy for the sake of a portfolio

something that drives me a bit insane about the whole switch into "natural" ingredients (besides the fact that "natural" means absolutely nothing) in cosmetics, is that people like my mom suddenly can't use a lot of cosmetics/care products anymore bc of her allergies

#i just got back to my place after holidays and I'm feeling so homesick#i want my family closer to me#i want to see them more often and for longer time#and I hate that whenever I come home i have to split my time between mom and dad#and now my dad os going through something and it's breaking my heart#because he's always the funny and silly one...always happy and now he reminds me of himself when he was divorcing my mom#i am so grateful that I spent new year's with him and that he wasn't alone#i even miss his cigarette smoke infused apartment#and my mom's weird cooking and her her candles and essential oils#and I wish my brother would appreciate all this more and not see us as a burden#i love him but I want him to grow up finally#and today before I left everyone hugged me a little tighter and a little longer#and now it's making me cry because I won't feel a human touch like that until next time I get home and that will be easter#those holidays went too fast and I want at least one more week like that#and it's all about those mundane things that make my heart beat faster#like when I went grocery shopping with my dad on new year's#or when I was just sitting and watching my mom cook#and I miss my cat so fucking bad#I'm so happy he spent another year with us#i don't even want to think about it but each year I get worried that it's his last Christmas with us because he's getting so old#and now I'm here alone and I love it that I can do my own thing and I don't share my apartment with anyone#but I just want them a little closer#i don't like how limited is my time with my own family#I'm super emotional tonight#I know it will pass in few days but today the feelings are super raw#because for more than a week I was never alone and always surrounded by love and my favourite people on Earth#and I went to being totally alone right now#i should go to sleep because I'm exhausted and I'm waking up at five tomorrow#guys...i hope you all had wonderful holidays and i wish each of you all the absolute best in 2024!

i've been turning a blind eye to it even though i've been aware of it happening for years but it has almost become way worse yet i don't feel like i've done enough to stop it
#long story short my mom almost joined an em el em#because she lost one of her jobs and we need money and she's tired of trying to apply for another and work#she wants to 'work from home' and because she has friends who SEEM to be making a lot of money from it#she's convinced that it's a good move and she could achieve the same#and its just so frustrating because i'm eating food cooked from overpriced pots those friends sold to us years ago#and i still have empty bottles of essential oils that i'm pretty sure were also sold to us by those same friends#and i've known for years that my parents' friends were shilling these things but i didn't know much about the subject#so i didn't want to 'enlighten' my parents on it (especially my mom who's the one actually buying these things)#i couldn't be bothered and its not like they were actually joining any of them#her telling me about this new business they want to start was what did it for me#i'm glad i kept prying before it was too late because there was too many red flags#however she still seems so unconvinced about why its a bad idea... i'm saving our family's finances but she doesn't seem to believe me#even though i do think she won't go through with it#and i'm just worried#those friends are the reason we were able to migrate here#one of them is my brother's godmother#the other one knew both my parents for years before i was even born#i don't want to say bad things about them but i hate that they're influencing my mom this way#idk if they're directly telling her these things or if she's just looking from the outside#i hope she's not too stubborn to just. believe that i have her best intentions. me. her first born child.#ugh idk maybe i should just talk to my dad since apparently he was still skeptical too#im so saaaaaaaad#idk how to help my family aside from taking extra shifts to cover bills ;___;
