Creating a Safe Haven: The Importance of Natural Cleaners in Our Homes
Hello dear homemakers and health enthusiasts! Today, let's dive into a topic that's close to my heart as both a homemaker and a naturopathic geek: the importance of using safe and natural cleaners in our homes. In our quest to create a clean and welcoming environment for our families, it's essential that we prioritize not just cleanliness, but also the health and well-being of our loved ones. Let's explore the impact of conventional cleaning products on our health, particularly on cognition and toxicity, and discover the transformative power of natural alternatives.
First and foremost, the hidden dangers lurking in many conventional cleaning products. From harsh chemicals and synthetic fragrances to toxic fumes and irritants, these products can wreak havoc on our health, compromising indoor air quality and posing risks to our respiratory system, skin, and overall well-being. But perhaps most concerning of all is the impact of these chemicals on our children, who are particularly vulnerable to their effects.
You see, kids have a knack for getting into everything—including cleaning products. Whether it's curious toddlers exploring under the sink or adventurous preschoolers mistaking colorful bottles for toys, the risk of accidental ingestion or exposure to harmful chemicals is all too real. And the consequences can be dire, ranging from mild irritations and allergic reactions to more serious health issues such as respiratory problems, neurological effects, and even poisoning.
But fear not, dear friends, for there is a solution: the transformative power of natural cleaners. By harnessing the cleansing power of nature's bounty—think vinegar, baking soda, essential oils, and plant-based detergents—we can effectively clean our homes without compromising our health or the environment. These gentle yet effective alternatives not only leave your home sparkling clean but also provide peace of mind, knowing that you're creating a safe and healthy haven for your family to thrive in.
Moreover, natural cleaners offer a myriad of benefits beyond their safety profile. They're environmentally friendly, biodegradable, and free from harmful chemicals and toxins, making them a sustainable choice for eco-conscious homemakers. Plus, they often boast antimicrobial, antifungal, and antibacterial properties, helping to combat germs and pathogens without the need for harsh chemicals or synthetic additives.
Let's make a pledge to prioritize the health and safety of our families by embracing the transformative power of natural cleaners. Let's banish harmful chemicals from our homes and replace them with gentle yet effective alternatives that nourish both body and soul. Together, we can create a clean, welcoming, and truly safe haven for our loved ones to thrive in. Here's what I'm using and loving here in the cozy little cabin.
Here's an amazing recipe I created to make your own homemade cleaner at home:
Lavender Lemonade Sparkle Spray:
Ingredients:
1 cup distilled water
1/4 cup white vinegar
10 drops lavender essential oil
5 drops lemon essential oil
1 tablespoon witch hazel
1 teaspoon liquid castile soap
Instructions:
In a clean spray bottle, combine the distilled water and white vinegar.
Add the lavender and lemon essential oils, along with the witch hazel and liquid castile soap.
If desired, add a splash of rubbing alcohol for extra cleaning power and sparkle.
Secure the spray bottle cap and shake well to mix all ingredients thoroughly.
Your Lavender Lemonade Sparkle Spray is now ready to use! Simply spritz onto surfaces and wipe clean with a cloth for a fresh, sparkling finish that leaves behind a delightful aroma of lavender and lemon.
Enjoy the unique blend of calming lavender and refreshing lemon as you clean your home, turning chores into a fragrant and uplifting experience.
Enjoy!
Love, Kimmi

I know it's normal and a natural response to independence but the fact that I tend to make what my mom would call bad decisions and get myself little treats (like an ice cream cone or coffee from a coffee shop) whenever my parents aren't around still makes me feel like I'm a horrible person who's a glutton and unwise and going to cause so much inflammation in my body that I keel over and die from a heart attack by the age of 30
#and that's on my mom's attitude towards wanting to eat only the purest most perfect foods that don't have anything wrong with them#bc apparently living in a house with that makes me partially 180 the other direction when I'm not home#and also makes me Scared#parts of her naturalistic approach to everything can be good!! she made a spray that's essentially vicks#but with only essential oils and it's been working wonders for me with this cold!#but like... yeah#Lu rambles

Apparently there's a Dutch essential oil company who is putting recipes on pinterest for "morphine" and "paracetamol" which are PURE oils that you put in a capsule and then take every few hours.
They also recommend to give their anti stress blend to your child IN AN INHALOR to take to school.
So here's you annual reminder that essential oils are dangerous and should not be taken internally or topically without consulting a professional herbalist and/or you doctor
(And yes, I did report them for medical misinformation)
#the rate at which I keep finding these weird things is worrying#witchcraft#witch#witchblr#essential oils#home medicine#medical misinformation#beginner witch

The replacement for Apollo's candle had been delayed for a while, but had been slated to be shipped out last Monday, so I'd promised Apollo and Hermes that I would light it in thanks for a recently completed divination session after it arrived. Turns out that it didn't ship until this past Friday and was slated to be delivered on Wednesday, which I mentioned while doing the prayers to close out yesterday's divination session to acknowledge that I remembered my promise.
It arrived two days early! I burned it as soon as I could after I got home, and now I can light Apollo's candle during divination sessions instead of Hermes' (which burnt his down quite a bit) or a tealight. Hail Hermes for the swift delivery!
#i gave an offering in thanks after i got home from the doctor today#it also included a candle for Athena that smells like peach whiskey & tobacco and it's! so good!#*it being the package#(the person i bought them from offered to include a free item b/c my order was delayed for ~a month#which to be clear i wasnt worried or upset about - they're local and i know they've been going to a lot of markets recently & there have#also been Things Going On in their life - but it is nice to finally have a candle for athena)#(as long as they still have them in stock i'll be buying a refill when its out anyway. hermes' candle and all of apollo's candles so far#have been from the same person their stuff is 🤌 & they dont use essential oils so i dont have to worry about the cats)#helpol#hermes#apollo#theoi#coriander says

it sucks so much ass that i can’t use any of my paintings for my portfolio because they’re all fanart :( you might say ‘oh jey, why don’t you just paint other things?’ very easy answer to that. i don’t want to :) i paint for myself and i don’t want to have to do things i won’t enjoy for the sake of a portfolio
#i’m essentially auditing a painting class this year (situation is a bit more complicated) but basically i’m learning oils#and i’ll hopefully end up with portfolio pieces from that#but at home i paint my little guys i don’t give a shit if the paintings are ‘useless’#it’s sad that fanart is so not valued as like real art that matters. we’re talking about in art history who gets to define art and its value#and like yeah. why is a shitty oil painting i did with no experience or instruction more ‘real art’#than the very technical acrylic paintings i spend dozens of hours on just because of the content? and also medium and size#16x20 oil vs 4x5 acrylic the oil one will Always be valued higher#moral is art world is confusing and arbitrary and annoying and i want to put my own damn paintings in my portfolio#and that i Hate the notion of ‘useless art’ i think that’s so much bullshit. all art is so so important#<]:)

something that drives me a bit insane about the whole switch into "natural" ingredients (besides the fact that "natural" means absolutely nothing) in cosmetics, is that people like my mom suddenly can't use a lot of cosmetics/care products anymore bc of her allergies
#like i cannot buy hand soap for our home bc she needs specific ones#and my sister is super into all that natural flower child hippie bs so she often gifts her soaps and creams and makeup that are NaTuRaL#and our mom will try it once out of politeness then have an allergic reaction and give it to me/someone else/throw it out#'natural' doesn't mean shit and doesn't have any industry standards#not to mention the 'natural' alternatives often aren't tested to anywhere near the same extent as their artificial counterparts#or how a lot of 'natural' alternatives are known irritants like essential oils#even my fav brand of toothpaste is no longer white bc it changed to have no color additives

since im thinking abt social media stuff i remembered a while ago on insta i saw this tradwife account doing a “go shopping with me at aldis!☺️💖” video and i was like okay whatever and then had to do a fucking double take bc it was literally the aldis where i live. terrifying.
#hi wannabe tradwife influencer in my area i do not want to buy your essential oils#its kinda extra unnerving when i see women of color getting super into tradwife stuff under the label of tradwife#and related terms#just because of how deeply racist the roots of it are#and i hate that it lures people in under the guise of being just supportive community for stay at home moms and such#bearzposts

How to make a homemade laundry detergent for a sustainable home
DIY: How to Make a Homemade Laundry Detergent for a Sustainable Home
Laundry detergent is an essential item in any home, but there are many questions about the best type of detergent to use and whether it’s possible to make a sustainable choice.
In this article, we’ll explain the basics of laundry detergent and why it’s important for a sustainable home. We’ll also provide step-by-step instructions for making a homemade laundry detergent that is both effective and eco-friendly.
What is Laundry Detergent?
Laundry detergent is a cleaning agent that is used to wash fabrics and other items. It usually contains surfactants, enzymes, and other chemicals that help to break down dirt and stains. Different types of detergent are used for different types of fabrics, so it’s important to choose the right one for your needs.
Why is it Important for a Sustainable Home?
When it comes to sustainability, laundry detergent is an important factor. Many store-bought detergents contain harsh chemicals that can be harmful to the environment. These chemicals can end up in our water supply, which can have a negative impact on wildlife and human health.
Using a natural, eco-friendly detergent is one of the best ways to reduce your carbon footprint and make your home more sustainable. Plus, it’s much better for your skin and clothing!
Step-by-Step Guide to Making a Homemade Laundry Detergent
Making your own detergent is easy and cost-effective. Here’s how to do it:
Ingredients
2 cups of baking soda
2 cups of washing soda
1/2 cup of citric acid
1/2 cup of salt
Essential oils (optional)
Instructions
In a large bowl, mix together the baking soda, washing soda, citric acid, and salt.
If desired, add a few drops of essential oils for a pleasant scent.
Transfer the mixture to an airtight container and store it in a cool, dry place.
To use, add one tablespoon of detergent to a full load of laundry.
Tips for Using Your Homemade Detergent
For best results, use warm or hot water.
To boost cleaning power, add a half-cup of white vinegar to the rinse cycle.
For extra-tough stains, let the garment soak in a solution of equal parts water and laundry detergent for 30 minutes before washing.
For a fabric softener, add one cup of white vinegar to the rinse cycle.
Final Thoughts
Making your own laundry detergent is a great way to reduce your carbon footprint and make your home more sustainable. Plus, it’s cost-effective and easy to do.
By following the steps above, you can make a homemade laundry detergent that is both effective and eco-friendly. So, why not give it a try today?

I have got to stop reading liberal publications because lately the slant they all take is The South (Especially Texas) is a horrible evil cesspit of fascism, and then you've got the Comments Section which I know you should never read chiming in about how yeah there are good people in Texas much the same way there were good people in Germany in 1933, or that you should just move to, and I quote, New York, Los Angeles, or San Francisco. You know, those famously affordable cities.
So I move every few months for work, but I always come back to Texas because it's the closest thing I have to home. I love it here. I've lived in a couple different parts of the state and not only is it affordable (most places), you can find acceptance where you least expect it.
I was thinking today I would trashtalk these so called blue states and cities the way their highfalutin intellectuals and journalists see fit to trashtalk my home. Here goes:
Chicago, the Windy City, where the smell of hotdogs from street vendors outside Wrigley Field is accompanied by the dulcet tones of a guy with an Eastern European accent talking into a portable mic about how marriage is a sacrament between a man and a woman, and homosexuality is a sin. Behind him, posters tacked to telephone poles proclaim, Chicago doesn't have a gun problem, it has a black problem! in bold, racist lettering.
New York City, hub of arts, music, culture, fine food and wine, where a studio apartment in a bad part of town is a mere $2000/month, utilities not included. It's fine; just get a roommate! A man handing out leaflets on the corner bodyblocks a teenager from crossing the street, saying he will not let her cross until she smiles. Beneath the ever-present scaffolding, young people wearing shirts that say Bible Crusade hand out religious literature.
The Bay Area, where a gentle breeze blows off the water and missing the Grand Avenue exit and getting on the Bay Bridge by accident is only a $7 mistake. That's okay; if you don't want to drive, you can take AC transit in the East Bay, where bus drivers snap and yell at you if you try to ask them a question. Honey, this ain't the south. Scan the QR code and shut up. Oh, and your rent is $2000/month with utilities and you have to share a bathroom. People without $2000 to spare live in tents and broken-down RVs in a bad part of town. Let's go brandon! yells a sticker on a light pole.
True stories all. I have seen your exalted liberal cities and they are shit. You trashtalk the south from your cushy, overpriced apartment in a coastal city and yet you've clearly never been there.
This has been a rant.
#liberal journalism has failed the country#you know this is why even lefty southerners kind of don't want anything to do with mainstream liberalism#because it treats southern as a shorthand for racist sexist homophobic conservative#it says leave your home whether you can or not#whether you want to or not#your coastal marshes#your panhandle plains#your river deltas#your deserts#your hometowns#they're worthless. move to a northern city and pay a landlord four figure rent for a home your family can barely fit in#pay double for groceries and essentials. this is somehow better.#what's that about fixing the politics in your state? well you made them that way so you deserve it.#do people not understand gerrymandering? voter suppression?#do they not understand that the oil barons out west have more control over our elections than the voters do?#how else d'you think ted cruz keeps getting elected? we all hate him!
