Hi I've just finished reading all of the Lucifer fanfics you had and I love every last one of them he's my absolute favorite and I was hoping if I can make a request something involving Lucifer and a fem reader they're good friends and they share a cute and romantic moment baking!😋🧁 They make all kinds of sweets, baked goods and pastries and then suddenly have a playful food fight that leads to an accidental kiss, and they get super shy awkward and nervous and then start confessing feelings to each other and finally share a long waited passionate kiss. The rest is up to you.
A/N— YES YES YES, NO HESITATION 💖 I hope you have an amazing day. Sorry it took so long <3
Something Sweet | Lucifer
Warnings: Fem!Reader, fluff
Word Count: 769
The counter was covered in a mix of flour, sugar, and quite literally every other ingredient that went into making a cake, two dozen cupcakes with whipped icing, an ungodly amount of apple turnovers, and more cookies than you could count.
The whole building smelled like sugar and vanilla because of what was in the oven.
With the counter covered, it served to reason that your outfit had flour handprints from where you had wiped your hands at a moment's notice to handle something that Lucifer couldn't.
Baking was your hobby turned passion, and being friends with Lucifer, he supported you. . . Partially because he wanted you to succeed. . . Mostly because he was the designated taste tester.
It was rare he baked alongside you, but when he did, it was always interesting.
This time was no different.
You were debating whether or not you had enough sweets for the small party being held for Angel's birthday, when something hit your chest, exploding into a mess of powdery white down your entire front.
Your eyes immediately snapped over to Lucifer, who was obviously the culprit, as no one else was in the room.
He chuckled nervously, wiping his hands off.
You smirked and flung a glob of pink whipped icing at his face. He attempted to dodge it, but he miscalculated the velocity and it hit him on the cheek, staying for all of a few seconds before falling down his front.
The snort that came from you wasn't ladylike, but watching the King of Hell stand there with flour and pink icing on his clothes was quite the sight to see.
Lucifer grabbed what was left of it on his clothes, chucking it at you.
He started a war.
Flour, icing, chocolate chips, eggs, and powdered sugar were thrown at each other, turning the floor slippery.
A fact that came to light when you lunged forward and slipped in the odd mixture. In a moment of fear, you grabbed a hold of the closest thing, which just happened to be Lucifer; dragging him down with you.
Your back hit the floor and Lucifer landed on top of you with a grunt. Laying on the floor with your head to the side, you noticed that the underneath side of the fridge needed to be cleaned. . . Perhaps you'd see if Niffty had the time later.
You closed your eyes and sighed, dreading cleaning the mess.
Turning your head back, your lips brushed against warm skin and your eyes flew open once more. You hadn't realized Lucifer was on top of you still until that very moment.
And then you realized that your lips had touched his. You had technically kissed him.
He stared at you awkwardly and you began apologizing profusely — how many times had he mentioned missing Lilith?
How many times in the long-time friendship had he come to you asking for guidance when it came to getting Lilith to forgive him when his pride and ego took over and prevented him from being the husband he needed to be in the moment?
More often than either of you would ever admit. . . Especially because you had always liked him. . . But he was all about the woman who rarely gave him the benefit of the doubt.
Lucifer said nothing as you continued to rattle off apology after apology, attempting to sit up in the process, and somehow succeeding.
Lilith's name came up over a dozen times in the short span.
You only stopped talking when he reached his hand up and his thumb wiped some of the icing and flour off of your cheek.
He smiled at you sweetly, having listened to your hasty apologies as the blush consistently creeped up your face.
“Stop apologizing,” he whispered. “She's not here. She left. That was her choice. . . Now it's my choice to tell you how. . . How I feel about you.”
“Luci—”
“Shut up.” He mumbled before placing his lips firmly on yours. It was sweet, yet left no room for argument. You took a moment to return the kiss, but once you did, you didn't regret it.
His kiss tasted like something sweet — you couldn't quite place it. Icing? Just sugar? Whatever it was, it was addicting and you couldn't get enough.
You almost whined when he finally pulled away, but didn't.
He rested his forehead on yours. “That's how I feel.”
You smiled slightly, despite the slight fear of the unknown weighing in the back of your mind, and went in for a quick peck. “And that's how I feel.”
“Looks like we're on the same page, then.”

Sir Walter, I must ask... What is your skincare routine?
You are very wise to ask such a thing—more would do well to follow my advice for the skin, and I have no scruples in sharing my methods so that more people will benefit from luminous skin and I will not have the misfortune of looking upon so many frightful scarecrows!
My skincare routine is thus.
In the morning, I first wash my face, neck, and hands with elder-flower water. I apply a paste of white wax, almond oil, and spermaceti to my lips. My face is pinched between the fingertips for 10 minutes to bring a rosy glow to the skin. Finally, I anoint my face, neck, and hands with Gowland, and apply a fine white lead-based powder over it.
(I say "I" do these tasks, but of course it is actually my servants who attend to me and perform all the duties I am describing.)
In the afternoon, I fumigate my face, which is very efficacious in preventing or even removing wrinkles. (Not that I personally have any wrinkles to remove, but I mention this only for others who do have such a misfortune.) My servant puts some powder of the best myrrh upon an iron plate, and heats it sufficiently to melt the gum. I then hold my face over it, with my head covered with a napkin, for 20 minutes. My face is then washed with milk. Another layer of Gowland is applied.
Before I go to bed, I wash my face with rose-water, then apply a paste of boiled egg whites, alum, and almond oil. This remains on for 30 minutes, then is removed with Venice soap and fresh rose-water. Five drops of oil of rhodium are applied to the skin and gently massaged in. Then a final layer of Gowland is applied, of course, and my eye mask secured on top.
So, you see, it's really quite simple for anyone to follow.

Thanks for that practice post, you made a really good point. i find that practising is a little harder when working with spirits though, do you have any thoughts/tips on this specifically related to spirit work?
We are in reference to this post, which advises to practice things you don't necessarily need just for the sake of getting experience.
Of course you share few details, Anon, so I'll shoot from the hip:
Work with the spirits of correspondences. Try just talking to them. If the correspondence is feeling a bit inert, this is a good opportunity to practice spirit invocation.
You can "interview" correspondences to learn more about them, how they can assist in spellwork, and so on.
You don't need to have a spell in mind. Try finding five or so household staples (including things like bar soap, vinegar, herbs and spices, cooking ingredients like milk, rice, and eggs, etc.) and evoking a spiritual presence within them to talk to.
Evoking a spirit back into its earthly corpse is a skill in and of itself and can be readily practiced with common household ingredients.
Spirit work can also be practiced out in public, which IMO is a riskier operation; ensure to bring some amount of protection with you.
Try "tuning in" to the spirits of places, or into the spiritual plane where spirits may be roaming. Try to identify if there are any spirits in the places you go. But, keep in mind, that it often seems to happen that when you go poking about, spirits will respond. They may ask for favors, or be flustered at your attentions.
Respond as you desire to gain experience in spirit work.
General offerings, given outside if possible, are an excellent avenue to practice spirit work. An offering given to broad categories of spirits (such as the spirits of the home, the land, the ancestors, the helpers, to those who don't stand in your way, and to those owed reparation), has the tendency to draw in lots of spirits.
This can help provide experience in watching spirits coming and going; in knowing when one is trying to get your attention; and in carving out time to pay attention to the local spirits, to help resolve issues.
If you have a few enchantments already worked up, like an ongoing container spell or protective amulet, engage the spirits of those objects. You can also work directly with the spirits of just about any tool of witchcraft: prepared waters, oils, powders; wands and ritual knives; any object kept on the altar, and so on.
Divinatory tools tend to be especially talkative.
This isn't to say that all of your tools, or everything on an altar, has a spirit. Many do not, or only have a vague notion of energies, or energy without sapience.
This is all the better for spirit work practice, to gain experience determining something merely energized from something that can answer back.
If you have the experience and confidence, providing spirit readings for others can rapidly provide a lot of spirit-working experience, specifically in the realm of contact and communication. Get the terms of the reading in writing, approach each reading with spiritual protection and with your own guides, and always behave with dignity.
Astral travel is another fine way to gain spirit working experience, and especially useful if you also need to brush up on your traveling skills. A personal astral temple which you invite the spirits of your court into is danged handy for establishing a point of communication.
If astral travel isn't your thing, building physical vessels for your spirits is a very helpful way to ground them into your life, and also provides experience in and of itself. (*You can do this along with an astral temple, it isn't one or the other)
An accessible form of the spirit vessel is a container, such as a box, which you decorate in such a way that it resonates with the spirit's nature (including only decorating the inside, if subtlety benefits you), and is then filled with objects that similarly resonate with the spirit's nature, or the spirit would personally enjoy. Such a vessel may be very small; advice for building altars and shrines applies here.
Obtaining such a vessel for each important spirit in your life (including gods) can open up doorways that advance the available avenues of spirit work. But it can also just be very useful, in general, as a point of connection. Learning to "read" these vessels, the way one reads an aura, is also very useful practice.
Concurrent with all of these activities is learning how to "tune out" and set up boundaries and barriers to limit spirits from bothering you all the time; so things like establishing house rules, creation of wards specifically to manage spirits, and spirit banishing techniques, also run parallel to spirit work, and will improve your capacity therein.
Last, keep in mind that acknowledging and honoring a spirit is not the same thing as establishing a working relationship with them. So don't feel like meeting any random spirit once or twice means you owe them a shrine and offerings forever.

It's been like 2 days, and we're already at the "bring back national service" part of the election. Somebody's definitely going to promise reinstating hanging by the end of next week, and after that it's anyone's guess. A Hitler cloning scheme so we can go back to WW2 maybe, or making people on benefits eat nothing but powdered egg.

introducing: anti-hangry cookies
so i have 3 problems going for me right now when it comes to food. 1) i am on meds that kill my appetite, so i forget to eat until other physical symptoms manifest, and even then it is difficult to make myself actually consume something. 2) my sense of taste never recovered after i had covid, so my desire to snack has gone way down and i no longer find most things enjoyable or fulfilling to eat. 3) even though i am overweight, the part of my brain that sees items 1+2 as a good thing that could make me lose weight is currently gagged and straightjacketed because she is crazypants and keeps trying to kill me. i am a recovering anorexic in the same way some people are recovering alcoholics; it's something that i have to actively monitor in myself even years after "finishing" treatment." i MUST eat, or i will spiral.
by about 4pm i am literally weak with a hunger i cannot feel, my mind foggy and my whole body basically vibrating with hanger, and fighting tooth and nail to make myself eat something, anything, please. enter the anti-hangry cookie.
i originally made these when i was nursing to get my milk supply up (they are technically called "lactation cookies"); i don't know if they actually helped with that, but damn were they great to have around because they're the super rare combination of taste good and good for you and easy to eat that is absolutely essential in those bleary early days of parenthood. turns out that kind of snack is necessary outside of that time period, as well.
the good: rolled oats, full of whole grain, fiber, vitamins, and even some protein. brewers yeast, with more good vitamins and protein, plus good for the tummy. flax seed, B vitamins, omega 3s, fiber.
the fantastic: basically the best chocolate chip oatmeal cookie ever. there's a hint of cinnamon, and somehow the brewers yeast and flax seed only enhance that flavor rather than making it taste too, well, healthy lol. also you cannot taste the coconut oil, so if that's not your favorite flavor, fear not: you get the benefits without that sunscreen taste.
INGREDIENCE
3c old-fashioned rolled oats 1 1/2c all-purpose flour 5 tbs brewers yeast 3 tbs ground flax seeds 1/2 tsp baking powder 1/2 tsp baking soda 1/2 tsp cinnamon 1/4 tsp salt 3/4c (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter, room temp 1/4c unrefined coconut oil 1 1/2c sugar 1 large egg + 1 egg yolk, room temp 2 tsp vanilla extract 1 bag dark chocolate chips
optional: 1/2c peanut butter, SO GOOD
whisk together oats, flour, yeast, flax, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt.
beat butter, coconut oil, and sugar (and pb, if using) together until fluffy, then add the egg and yolk and beat to combine. add the vanilla and beat again. gradually add in the dry ingredients on low speed until just mixed. it will be a bit crumbly. then mix in the chocolate chips.
scoop the dough into 1-inch rounds (i use a cookie scoop and then roll them in my hands). rolling into a ball is actually fairly important here, since otherwise they'll crumble apart a fair bit in the oven; rolling smushes them into a delightfully dense cookie. (obvs go ahead and skip the rolling if crumbly cookies are your jam.) place on a baking sheet about 2" apart and bake at 350 for 10-14 minutes.
the original recipe says it makes 20-22 cookies but that is BONKERS because i can easily get 36 good-sized cookies out of this. i typically bake a dozen and freeze the rest (in ball form, don't throw a big lump of dough into your freezer), and then bake them for 12-16 minutes straight from the freezer.
here's the remaining ~2 dozen dough balls in my freezer. confession: i actually prefer the ones baked from frozen to those made from the fresh dough! they stay taller in the oven and spread less, creating a delightful cookie experience that is somehow dense and fluffy at the same time.
try one in the shower. just do it. shower cookie is best cookie

2 1/4 cup all purpose flour
2/3 cup coco powder
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup butter, softened
3/4 cup granulated/white sugar
2/3 cup packed brown sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 instant coffee packet
2 cups of mix-ins (I used hazelnuts and chocolate chips)
__
Preheat oven to 350(f) or 175(c). Line a baking sheet with baking/parchment paper.
In a small bowl sift flour, coco powder, baking soda, and salt together; mix to combine
In a large bowl, beat butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, and vanilla until creamed scraping down the sides of the bowl as needed
Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each additional and scraping down the sides of the bowl
Beat in flour mixture gradually. Only mix until the flour mixture is fully wet.
Add mix-ins. Mix with a spatula until just combined.
Bake for 9-11 minutes, cool on baking sheet for two minutes. Then transfer either to parchment lined counter/table or cooling rack.
__
I personally think it'd benefit from a teaspoon of cinnamon or something similar, but it's solid. It does work with gluten free flours.
Enjoy.
Clling forth anyone who can bake or wants to learn. Try this out.
#Eggs Added!#this sounds good but i still havent figured out what all purpose flour is so i cant do recipes that are in english#i have to do stricktly non-english recipes whenever i decide to bake bc#english recipes will be like One Stick of butter and i'm like How Many grambs...

Hi, I've only recently started following you so apologies if you've talked about this before or I'm misinterpreting, but did you say in your recent health post that you have me/cfs and have actually improved past being bedbound? I ask because my partner has had me/cfs for over a decade and despite having very good doctor luck and trying out all sorts of community tips, the best we can seem to hope for is stabilization through extreme rest/inactivity; improvement sounds fairly extraordinary. If you have even a direction to point us to for options that'd be awesome, thank you!
Wow, okay. This feels like a big responsibility, in a way! But I really want to help any way I can.
First, my official diagnosis is fibromyalgia, but in a way, this is because that's the diagnosis I asked my doctor about, and nothing more scientific than that! I do also fit all the diagnostics for Chronic Fatigue, as do many with fibromyalgia. Increasingly, people are beginning to suspect that these and other syndromes are related, if not quite the same thing. In all cases, it's sort of a diagnosis of exclusion--that is, they can't find anything wrong with you mechanically. There's very little a doctor can "fix". My hip doesn't hurt right now because of injury. It's not injured.
Yes, I've had weeks and months when I could only be out of bed/recliner for a few minutes at a time, when standing up made me dizzy or created heart arrhythmias that were hugely uncomfortable and made me have coughing spells, tingling and numbness, etc. I had massive muscle weakness, crippling fatigue, constant headaches, constant pain that moved between "continuous physical and mental drain" and "totally debilitating; can't even think". This fluctuated for me, so for example my health is almost always terrible for some portion of the winter months of January, February, and March, and then eases up a bit for late spring.
Gonna create a break because there is no way to talk about this in quick soundbites without distorting things horribly.
I've done a lot of things over the years that would help a lot at first and then only a little over the longer span--removing gluten from my diet was the first big "breakthrough", and after my diagnosis I tried a couple of drugs. Duloxetene was miraculous in its effect, but I barely slept a couple of hours a night and finally had to give up when I started being just completely unhinged from fatigue. Gabapentin was great for the first few weeks, and now helps...some. It's hard to say exactly how much, because the only times I've gone off it have been because of gaps in medication coverage, which never lasted past the "wow going cold turkey is fucking terrible" period.
This past February, my best friend, who had been urging me to try the keto diet, bought me a (rather expensive!) bottle of BHB powder, which is a synthetic form of one of the ketone bodies your body produces for energy when you starve it of glucose (this is what ketosis is. You starve your body of glucose until it starts breaking down fat for energy creation). So I said, fine, I'll try keto for a month. I can do most anything for a month! I removed all carbs from my diet and started taking the BHB powder once or twice a day.
The results were huge and instant. Keto was a huge pain in the ass, because while there are still a lot of great things you can eat--nuts, eggs, meat, berries, pretty much any veggie that isn't a root crop--most of the things most of us eat daily rely partly or entirely on starch and grain. But I kept it up because I suddenly had far, far more energy and my pain and inflammation went way down.
I don't think keto is THE solution, though. I do think that trying it for a month is something a lot of people might benefit from, but I hate is as a lifelong diet. I am currently eating low carb, but considerably more fruit and root veggies than you can eat and still be in ketosis. But I was keto for eight months. What I think happened was that the keto diet lowered my inflammation levels a ton, which was why I tried it--the research that suggested it had this effect. Combine that with the BHB, which gave my body an energy source that bypassed whatever was wrong with my glucose metabolism processes, and I got a big leg up.
As with the other things I'd tried, the huge gains eventually leveled out. But they gave me two things--breathing room, and hope. You know, I think, how hard it is to have hope. You get so you're not sure you should even try! You think, maybe hope is causing me more pain. Maybe I should be focused on grieving and acceptance. But these moments in time, however brief, when my body functioned as it should and things were OK really drove home to me that somewhere in me, there was a body that was actually perfectly capable of normal function! If I can take a stupid little pill and suddenly be fine, even for a little bit, then there's a way!!
So I used that breathing room to dig deeper into the research. And eventually I encountered people who said that had recovered from these conditions. That they'd gotten better, and now functioned as normal, healthy people--even athletes. And of course I resisted that information, for reasons I probably don't have to explain to you. The doctors all say there's no cure. Hoping for a cure is exhausting. And if there's a cure--well, that comes loaded with a lot of anger! All this time wasted, all these doctors who couldn't do shit, all the suffering...what if it was avoidable?! It's a lot to work through.
But there were a lot of these stories, once I started finding them. Raelan Agle on Youtube is a pretty good place to start, and once you're there, you'll start seeing other people in the sidebar. And these people all used different paths to wellness, many of which sound absolutely ridiculous and woo woo at first! And yet here were a lot of people from all over, many of whom weren't selling anything, saying they got better.
But there were threads that were common to many of them. Diet was common, although which specific diet didn't seem to matter so much as cutting out junk and eating nutrient rich food. Exercise mattered but was rarely the first step. Medicines and supplements were almost never big players, even though everyone tries them. But mental changes were a huge thing for many if not most people. How they conceptualize and describe these changes varies a lot, but the themes of calming our sympathetic nervous system, addressing our fears, visualizing a life for ourselves where we're healthy, and most importantly believing that we can be that person, came up a lot.
I don't know what will work for other people. For me, diet was an early key, but I think learning to relax, convincing my nervous system that I'm really okay, and doing work on that has been the most lasting gain. And once I believed I could be better, it was easier to make a lot of the structural changes that we're already told will help--get a little movement in each day. Get some sunlight. Try to have a regular sleep schedule. Eat well. Stay hydrated. Once I knew that all these things might lead not just to "slightly less awful" but maybe something actually good, I was vastly more motivated to work on them.
I don't know if your partner can recover. But I know that people do. So as much as hope is painful, I suggest you keep looking, and I hope for the very best for you.

A Ritual of Purification
The purification ritual will utilize my prayer the Four Goddesses but can easily be personalized to address one's primary Hyrulean deity if that is preferable or easier. In my case, I may shorten the prayer on occasion by focusing on the Lady Hylia section of the prayer until I can remember it better. In that particular situation, Lady Hylia is the protector of the Triforce and has direct contact with the Three Golden Goddesses.
Recite the Prayer of Purification either in front of your altar or with a suitable portable icon in your hands if you are traveling. For example, a miniature goddess statue you can keep in your pocket. In the case of my friend who worships the Great Deku Tree, they have found a small tree man statue that is originally part of a fairy garden set. One may choose to use sea salt, blessed sand, flour, or egg shell powder to rub onto the three Triforce Energy Centers I reference in my blog post about my Embodying the Triforce cultivation technique. You may also choose to rub the purifying agent of your choice onto you shoulders and arms. From there there are two different methods to complete the purification.
Shower:
After completing the initial preparation, step into the shower. You may choose your water temperature. Warm is more comfortable, but cold is rather invigorating and has many benefits. Take up a comfortable but meaningful posture. I recommend hands clasped over the heart akin to the posture of the Goddess Statues. It may also help to have a chant or mantra. For example, “Din, Farore, Nayru—Power, Courage, Wisdom— Purify and restore. Lady Hylia, Keeper of the Triforce, purify and restore.” I recommend repeating this at least three times while under the shower stream.
River/Waterfall/Ocean
Outdoors in natural running water is generally going to be an even more powerful practice so this is recommended to be done as often as possible though the shower practice is more accessible. Complete the same preparations and then step into the water. The same chant will work but one may also wish to recite the full Prayer of Purification while in the water.
Other thoughts and recommendations
I have my Goddess Statue that I keep on my altar but I also intend to buy a stone angel statue I can hold in my palm while I do the prayer away from home and maybe even to hold in my hands while I’m the water chanting. Often these relatively lower detail angel statues are also similar enough to a Goddess Statue and I think would serve as a great tool.
If you choose to use cold water in the shower or you’re in water outdoors that is cold, it may be helpful to practice some breathing techniques ahead of time. I plan to look a bit more into the Wim Hof method to help me better handle cold water. I also recommend taking a full breath at the beginning of each repetition of the chant.
Please feel free to share thoughts and suggestions! I look forward to hearing about your own personal practices if you’d like to share!

This is not a recipe blog. But have some cake and also what I thought about while I made it.
Spiced Apple Bundt Cake(s)
Cake Ingredients:
3 medium apples, chopped
1 c. maple syrup
3 eggs
3/4 c. brown sugar (I used dark)
1/2 c. butter, softened
1 Tbsp vanilla
3 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1 1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp fine sea salt
1 Tbsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
1/2 tsp ground ginger
1/4 tsp ground allspice
(Optional) 1 c. chopped walnuts
Icing Ingredients: (will make more icing than you need so maybe half this unless you want extra)
1 c. powdered sugar
1/4 c. milk
8 oz cream cheese
2 Tbsp vanilla
pinch of cinnamon and nutmeg as desired
Instructions:
For the cake, begin by mixing the apples, maple syrup, eggs, sugar, butter, and vanilla. (Bold Ingredients) In a mixer the apple bits may jump out of the mixer so cover it with a towel or duck!
Mix all the other cake ingredients together and add into the apple mixture.
Grease your Bundt pan really well. Bake a full cake for 1 hour at 350F or mini Bundt cakes for 45 minutes. Overfill the mini Bundt cake pan a bit so that the icing can sit inside the cake.
For the icing mix all the ingredients together. Ideally, it is a little bit goopy so you can fill the mini Bundt cakes but also get a good drip to make it pretty.
This cake is also awesome with caramel sauce.
Hey everyone, now that we have cake, want to know a fun fact? Much like the way that this bundt cake is just okay without the apples and the apples are just apples without the cake, Today we get to have this wonderful combination of apples and cake AND either caramel or cream cheese icing (or both if you’re feeling saucy), and we get to think about lichens.
What’s a lichen, you may ask? Or you may not ask, because you already know, or because you are not interested, and in that case you can skip this bit and just think about cake. But for those of you still here, a lichen is, in its simplest form, a symbiotic relationship between an algae and a fungus, with the fungus providing structure and protection and the algae providing extra food with the ability to photosynthesize. Lichens grow on rocks and trees and pretty much anywhere else, and are among the very first organisms that colonize a place after a disaster such as a forest fire or a volcanic eruption. Because of this they are often called pioneer organisms, and they are able to persist in environments far harsher than post-volcanic wastelands. In fact, the poster child of natural resilience, the tardigrade, looks like an absolute wimp when compared to some species of lichen, which can withstand several orders of magnitude more radiation than our dear little water bears. Lichen are resistant to many kinds of damage, and there are several species of lichen whose presence can be used as a surrogate to determine the overall air quality in a region.
But wait, you say, back up. Species of lichen? Didn’t you just say that a lichen is two separate organisms? How can a lichen be a species? Would you list a great white shark and her loyal remora as a single species? Of course not. While they both benefit from their symbiotic partnership, they are also perfectly capable of existing separately. Such is not the case for many species of lichen, which have spent so long living in tandem that the individual fungi and algae can no longer live apart. Thus, a single lichen is classified as a species, and not two individuals.
This is what is beautiful about the humble lichen. It can look like nothing but a dusting of greenish powder, or it can hang off of trees in curtains. It can be sent to space, frozen, boiled, and irradiated, and will rebound faster than anything else even where disaster has devastated an area. However, take those two individuals apart and they may well falter and fail under the same stressors just like everything else. And just so, everything in the world will struggle on its own without the support of another. Lichen builds the communities we thrive in, and in itself is a tiny community, proving every day, in every corner of the world and beyond, that we are stronger together.
Thanks for the idea, @vroom-shroom, and thanks for helping me make everything a two person job.

Keto Waffles with Almond Flour and No-Sugar Vermont Syrup: A Delicious and Healthy Choice
If you’re following a keto diet, you know that finding tasty, low-carb alternatives to your favorite foods can be a challenge. But what if you could enjoy a classic breakfast staple—waffles—without sacrificing your health goals? With almond flour and no-sugar Vermont syrup, you can make delicious keto waffles that not only taste great but offer several health benefits. Here’s how, plus why they’re a great choice for your diet.
Recipe for Keto Waffles with Almond Flour
Ingredients:
• 1 cup almond flour
• 2 large eggs
• 1/4 cup unsweetened almond milk (or any low-carb milk alternative)
• 1 teaspoon baking powder
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
• 2 tablespoons melted butter (or coconut oil for dairy-free)
• A pinch of salt
• No-sugar Vermont syrup (for topping)
Instructions:
1. Preheat your waffle maker.
2. In a bowl, mix the almond flour, baking powder, and salt.
3. In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs, melted butter, vanilla extract, and almond milk until smooth.
4. Combine the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients, mixing until well blended.
5. Pour the batter into the preheated waffle maker and cook according to the manufacturer’s instructions (usually 3-4 minutes).
6. Serve your waffles hot, drizzled with no-sugar Vermont syrup, and enjoy!
Health Benefits of Keto Waffles
1. Low in Carbs, High in Healthy Fats
Almond flour is naturally low in carbohydrates and high in healthy fats, making it an ideal ingredient for keto recipes. It helps you stay in ketosis while providing essential fatty acids that support heart health and brain function.
2. Rich in Protein
Eggs and almond flour both provide a good amount of protein, helping you feel fuller for longer. This can help curb cravings and reduce snacking throughout the day, supporting your weight loss goals.
3. Packed with Nutrients
Almond flour is a nutrient-dense alternative to traditional flour. It’s rich in vitamins and minerals like vitamin E, magnesium, and manganese, all of which contribute to overall health, including better skin, bone, and immune system function.
4. No Added Sugars
Using no-sugar Vermont syrup ensures you’re avoiding the spike in blood sugar that comes with traditional syrups. Many sugar-free syrups are sweetened with alternatives like monk fruit or stevia, which don’t affect blood glucose levels, making them perfect for keto.
5. Gluten-Free
Almond flour is naturally gluten-free, which can improve digestion and reduce inflammation in people sensitive to gluten or those with celiac disease. It’s also a more gut-friendly option for many who experience bloating with regular wheat flour.
6. Supports Weight Loss
By keeping your carb intake low and promoting a feeling of fullness, these keto waffles can help support weight loss. Almond flour is a low-glycemic ingredient, meaning it has a minimal impact on blood sugar, which helps prevent insulin spikes that can lead to fat storage.
7. Improved Energy Levels
The healthy fats and protein in these waffles provide a steady energy supply, unlike traditional carb-heavy waffles that often lead to energy crashes after eating. You’ll feel more alert and energized throughout your day.
Final Thoughts
Keto waffles made with almond flour and topped with no-sugar Vermont syrup are not just a tasty breakfast—they’re a powerhouse of nutrition that supports your keto lifestyle. With fewer carbs, plenty of healthy fats, and a host of vitamins and minerals, they’re a perfect way to start your day without derailing your progress. So go ahead, indulge in these waffles guilt-free, and enjoy the health benefits they bring!
