Supermarket Spell Masterpost!
Modern Folk Magic Challenge: Premade Supermarket Spells!
Let's do something fun, why not!
Grocery store correspondences are common. Salt, sugar, lemons, black pepper, beef heart? No problem! With a little creativity, most any spell ingredient you need can be found at the grocery store.
But what about all the other stuff that isn't produce, spices, or from the butcher counter?
Coconut flavored sparkling water. Double-stuffed mint Oreos. Marie Calender's Meatloaf and Gravy frozen dinners. Fat-free vanilla and honey Greek yogurt snackers.
Think of the potential!
What if we all grabbed a readily available and affordable pre-made* grocery store item in our area, and wrote a spell who's only** ingredient is that item?
I think it could be tons of fun (and inspiring) to see how people take mass-produced supermarket items and use them as the basis for spells.
Pre-Made*
The challenge is to take any grocery store item which combines two or more things into a pre-packaged or pre-mixed item.
What are the 'things'? It's up to you!
Coconut flavor + sparkling water. It's the flavoring plus the bubbles!
Chocolate cookies + mint creme filling
Meatloaf + gravy
Vanilla flavoring + honey + Greek yogurt
Caramel flavor + powdered pudding mix
Pretend that every aspect of the object is a correspondence, and find any item which to you is a combination of two or more correspondences.
The Only Ingredient**
In many spellcrafting games, spell components are considered to be separate from ingredients. Maybe to you, a tea light or a threaded needle aren't spell ingredients so much as they are tools that help you cast a type of spell.
For this challenge, strive to make the supermarket object the only ingredient of the spell, whatever that means to you.
Imagine if you could say to someone, "I have a spell for that! And the only thing you need is Fruit Gushers."
A Spell
Write a spell that uses your supermarket object as the only ingredient.
Not just correspondences for that item! The challenge is to write a whole spell that someone could cast.
The spell can be for any purpose you want.
Share with us your thought process! Why did you choose that object, and why did you combine it with those magical actions?
Tag your contribution as #Supermarket Spell so we can all find each other!
It doesn't have to be food!
Nor does it really have to be obtained from a grocery store. Here are the ideas that inspired me for this project:
Mass-produced items that combine two or more "correspondences"
Commonplace, affordable
A normal part of household groceries (not having to sneak something exotic or unusual inside)
Finding ways to do magic with pantry goods that aren't classical herbal correspondences
Here are other questions I anticipate people might ask:
Do I have to use the whole package? No!
Are things technically from the produce/spice/meat aisles okay? Yes!
Does it technically have to be a 'spell'? I think things like devotional or offering rituals, or other acts of magic which you don't feel are 'spells', are fine to contribute! I would be fascinated to see people's reasoning for why they chose certain items for non-spell acts of magic.

Hi Chicken 💕💖🌟 Thank you for all your witchy posts!!!! I'm sorry if this toxic but I'm rly anxious about AI.. People say it's bad and stuff. But like I can't draw but it doesn't mean I can't learn but it's just sooooooo exhausting when I'm very very visual-oriented they say and can picture all kinds of things in my mind but I can't draw them so I want to ask AI to make them for me just as something I can look at.. And in witches communities everybody says it's bad. But why is it bad if it's just for me and helps me when I make a ritual and just look at it? Who cares about how you get an image of Lucifer if they say it's all personal but they also say you can't use AI. I don't like my drawings I want something nice to look at but also personal. And also they say they rob artists but if I get it right it already has gobbled all artists it could find so why can't I use it????
This is not an AI problem. This is a letting other people police your practice problem.
People who post against AI share their arguments for why AI is bad. You either agree with them, or you don't.
If you agree with them, then you either choose to make sacrifices to uphold what you believe is right, or you choose not to.
If you don't agree with them, then none of this should matter at all.
With all due respect, stop giving other people so much say in your practice. Make decisions for yourself.
Your brain has been exposed to an opposing point of view that challenges what you want to do. Listen to the arguments, make a decision, and own it.
If you want my personal opinion: make choices that you would make if you were already the person you want to be.

Hey Chicken!
So, I’ve previously had luck with money spells, but it’s very much been a case of “borrowing against yourself.” The last one just raised my credit card limit, which was great at the time, but that’s definitely become a new problem. I’ll be looking for a new job soon, but in the meantime, I’m wondering if you have any ideas on drawing more customers to a business? Our customers also receive little hand towels that I add some orange oil* to for scent, so I’m wondering if there’s a way to enchant the hands to make them more generous and spend/tip more.
Anything you or followers can think of would be great!
*Something the business does, not something I just decided to subject people to.
We're back on this I think!
Imagine your financial life is a domain in a kingdom. You're the monarch. You order the domain to bring you more money. The workers of the domain will go about doing so in the way that gets you what you want, which requires the least amount of work for them.
Your needs as the monarch aren't super important to them. They've got their own lives to live. Your decree is fulfilled to the letter, and that's that.
The amount of available money was not the problem.
The main business in the financial domain is a beauty spa that can only accommodate 8 guests at a time. You order a decree that the workers must try to attract more guests. The line out the door is very long. The business makes no extra money. Cancelled appointments, tips reduced due to longer wait times, you name it - the amount of guests at the door was not the problem.
Probably what you actually wanted is something like infrastructure development so the financial domain expands and makes it possible to intake more money in a sustainable way.
Financial sphere expansion spells can be worked with planetary magic:
Venus can strengthen the channels through which you receive things
Saturn can expand the boundaries of domains, pushing out the borders of your kingdom
It can be worked with elemental magic:
Earth to build 'vaults' to increase your carrying capacity of actual cash ("credit" is just words on a page, there are no gold coins - much less storage space required)
UPG - basil and clove greatly assist with building 'vaults' to expand your capacity to hold onto wealth
Water to increase flow
It can be worked with fiber magic:
Tye knots in a cord, each knot being a 'vault', or an expansion in your financial domain - imagine a witch's ladder which is a series of boons gifted to the denizens of your financial domain.
Symapthetic magic to mend holes in clothing and linens, as you do so "sewing up" holes in your vaults that allow coins to spill out.
Spirits can also assist you:
Assign a governor to your financial domain, to ensure expansion and growth is towards an increase of actual wealth, and to lock down attempts at accounting trickery that make it seem like your money has increased, when it has not.
Assign an agent to your financial domain to oversee special projects and bring reports back to you.
I have no ideas for an increased customer spell off the top of my head, that I am able to share with others.

Hi, I have a chronic issue. When I make a spell that affect others, the 99% of the cases, works wonderfully, like blasting good wao miracle! When I make a spell that affects me, the 90% of the cases DIDN'T WORK. Even if I do it to a close person with the idea that the spell will help me on the process, IT DON'T DO SHIT. Can you have any idea why? I use the same methods, same materials, same all. It can be some kind of fucked up subconscious thing where I don't believe I deserve it even if I want it badly or some kind of weird shit? It happen since YEARS and I'm starting to get really frustrated with my craft because that... Like, what's the point to be a epic witch if I can't do shit to myself? Anyway, thanks!
Avenues of exploration for sorcerous troubleshooting
Doing spellwork for yourself is a lot like reading tarot for yourself, in the sense that infinite context can be blinding.
We can hear a friend's story and give wise advice, yet not realize we're up to our own ears in foolish life choices. We can adeptly discern what spells and actions will help a friend, yet for ourselves be fumbling about in a dimly lit cage of desires.
Especially consider:
Performing divination to discover why this is the case for you
Calling on gods or spirits known to assist witches with attaining their desires
Building a spellcasting altar with the express purpose of resolving this issue
Examining any protection spells, spiritual relationships, or broken oaths that might be impeding on your work
Also:
I don't believe that "believing you deserve it" has anything to do with practical sorcery. Belief can be a tool in witchcraft but it's not an on/off switch that allows your magic to work, or not.

Good evening, dear Friend! I hope you are well, and I've dropped by with the warmest emotions! :) Many people online are saying it's popular to put any Tarot arcana on their phone screen, claiming it attracts luck. For example, the Two of Cups for love and relationships, and the Ace of Pentacles for money. Tell me, have you tried this, does it work?
I have not tried this.
I find a great deal of power in tarot cards. I generally find a difference between a symbol which is the signature of power, versus a charged symbol.
A tarot card might be like a resin mold, right. It resonates with a shape of power. A pentagram is a resin mold of protection and balance.
You can imprint that empty mold somewhere and to a degree greater than zero it will impact its surroundings by virtue of it having a magically significant shape.
Yet the mold may be empty; the dam of power may be closed; the luck or love is like a negative imprint, its shape held secure yet nothing filling the wireframe.
So drawing the pentagram with intent, meaning to put some power into the symbol as you draw it, begins to fill up the mold with some liquid power.
Doing a ritual to tap into the power of the pentagram, or the power of the tarot cards, or to fill these empty molds with your own power, is probably necessary for astounding results.
I choose to develop my practice in such a way that any little thing is unlikely to matter... I don't want to be walking around worrying about the resonance of having my phone background being my most irritable hen. I do not want all these energies into my life just because I like the artwork of a tarot card.
I've found tarot magic is very powerful when steps are taken to draw power to the surface of the card. I would not bet anything that just having the image of the card around with me is going to have any significant impact on my life. But I also have walls against this in my practice: I do not want everything to matter.

Good tidings to/upon you Chicken! I was looking at one of your old posts about prosperity and I very much emphasized with the "service person don't ripe me off" magic, as this is something I seem to ofter suffer. But trouble is, I am having a hard time thinking about how to do magic for this. Any ideas?
Good evening! We're in reference to this I believe.
Try framing it like this:
"Prosperity spell" is not an intent. Prosperity is what the spell impacts. Prosperity is the domain. Within that domain you can intend to bind, protect, banish, conjure, bless, cleanse, and so forth.
What would prevent a serviceperson from ripping you off? Start with broad magical intents.
The two that seem simplest to me are protecting yourself, or binding the serviceperson.
Here is where your witchcraft knowledge comes into play:
Between everything you know of correspondences, spiritual allies, and powers you can call on, which are most suited towards protecting your finances from the unscrupulous?
Perhaps you really like basil and cloves for a financial protection spell. A rule of 3 is very nice so why not a little tiger's eye as well? These allies are perfectly well versed in both money and protection: they are protective in nature yet very well versed traveling in the domain of Prosperity.
But let's do it again with binding. In this case we would be binding from thievery and wrongdoing. Who would be the allies you would call on to neutralize a thief?
This is where simple correspondence lists can be a distraction and your creativity will work wonders. Suppose you know some spirit or another who performs a wicked binding by putting their eye of judgement on a wrongdoer, paralyzing them (Justice card of tarot comes to mind). But maybe you'd only know this if you really got to know that spirit very closely. Maybe Bay Laurel, a solar plant who reminds me very much of a magistrate, shining a brilliant and stern eye on someone is enough to constitute a binding of a thief... even though Bay Laurel isn't on any correspondence list for binding, prosperity, or thievery.
So within our domain we have two potential intents; to protect ourselves, or bind a potential wrongdoer.
Which is the more practical option? Which path should we develop?
Sooner or later, the magical rubber must hit the road. That is to say, how will you place this magic in your life so that it's active and present when you need it? This, more than anything else - emotional drive, convenient correspondences, preferred intents - tends to shape my spellcrafting process.
So how will you get the magic to where the potential ripoff is going down?
You have scheduled maintenance for your car: it's easy to predict when you'll need this magic, and having the name and maybe even photo of a specific mechanic is a powerful targeting mechanism. It might be most effective to bind that person using allies of fairness, justice, or whomever would be on your side.
Your job frequently has you interacting with service vendors to put out fires: this magic needs to be ongoing and affect lots of potential servicepeople. It might be most effective to craft a personal protection amulet using allies of clear sight, cunning, protection, and wealth.
Your poor old car breaks down unexpectedly and you must get quotes for the cheapest shop: a protection amulet hung on the rearview mirror itself might be best.
Draw the protection sigil on your credit card with a Sharpie.
So really always try to never get caught up too much on 'intent'. Intent is the briefest step. What domain are you seeking to impact? Are you sure the clearest road forward is even in that domain?
Within that domain, what kind of intents will belay the enemy and deliver your desires?
What's the best ally to help fulfill that intent?
How do you take that ally and the intent they're asked to fulfill, and get them to where the action is?
Go back and forth between these things a little until a perfectly cromulent idea strikes. No need to over-work it.

honestly, I have always felt like a bad witch for saying this but things like "charge with intention" and other more mental(? advice never do anything for me because I just don't get it, is it really enough to just hold something in my hand and...imagine that I am charging it?? I just feel like I need to perceive it in a more physical way, otherwise it feels like nothing is actually happening, idk, it's always such a big pet peeve for me when a lot of witches treat meditation and visualizing as the most important and crucial thing in witchcraft and that if you don't get it then it means you are a failure and not a "chosen one" (because so many of this witches have a chosen one complex) idk...I feel a bit like a failure
Imagination has never worked for me either. Not everyone has visual thoughts and seeing mental pictures is not a prerequisite for working sorcery. Neither is meditation.
Try this as a 1:1 replacement:
Hold the object and tap, brush, or stroke it. Try these actions either rhythmically (perhaps along with counting) or chaotically and intuitively.
As you hold the object and get your gecko toes all over it, Observe, Believe, Feel, Understand, or Know, aka OBFUK (as in, oh fuck, I didn't have to be visualizing this whole time?) that your desired intent is being Implanted, Written, Stamped, Seeded, or Injected into the object.
(The whole operation can come across as a tiny bit penetrative in nature, which I suppose is fine as anything if you want to engage in the physicality of splitting an object's fate and impregnating it with your will, etc).
Never worry too much about keeping your thoughts perfectly focused. Trust your hands to do a lot of the work.
#cheers to the linked post for introducing the word foundamental to my vocabulary it has never left#answered
