If Edward and James fought (Or a fuse blown and a reconciliation for a splendid fool. First Part) :

Edward: James...I have something to tell you...It's important...I don't think you will...return to the railways for awhile.

James: ...What?...But-but why?

Edward: Sir Topham Hatt decided that you should get more time to recover and review safety measures...You...you were almost mortally wounded...But I think we can convince him to take you back, someday-

James : I can't be away from the rails. It is my duty!

Edward : But James, listen. An order has been issued by Sir Topham Hatt, you are suspended, for now.

James : Suspended!? No...No! No, it's impossible! I-I, can't-this can't be happening! (He gets more and more agitated, hurting himself in the bed)

Edward : Jamie, I know! I will try to help you, we will review the safety measures, together!

James : NO! I WILL NOT STAND FOR IT! (Panicked ramblings)

Edward : James, don't! Your wounds! Please, Jamie, just you SIT back on your bed and listen! James- I would NOT stand it if you returned to the rails!

James : But, don't you care that I lost my job?!

Edward : (eyes shaking) I do...Thus, I want you to SIT this through. (he pants, arched, sad eyebrows)

James: You must believe me, Eddie that this time I will not crash an engine, again.

Edward (tearful, sneering): And why should I believe you?

James (trying to pacify): I know I am reckless, sometimes-

Edward: You're reckless all the time! You almost died, this time! (a pant) And who always saves your boiler?...It's me! But you have no idea how you kill me inside every time you're in danger...(pants, shuddering breaths). And all you care about is the shiny new coat on your engine!

James: Edward, please, let me explain, I just-

Edward (angrily): I never met a pettier driver than you!

James: (Gasps in horror) Ed...You can't mean that...Can't you?

Edward: (Is tetanized, tears dripping from his eyes, from what he belted out...He stays frozen, lifts shaky hands...shudder and just covers his eyes, running from Tidmouth Sheds as fast as his legs can...

James: Ed? Edward! Stop! Wait! Please, come back! Edward! Don't go! EDWARD! (He hyperventilates, starting to sob. Just as Victor comes in, after hearing the commotion)

BTW, anyone saying Izzy is "getting what he asked for" in regards to him losing multiple toes: You are incorrect!

When Izzy goaded Ed, when he said "I serve Blackbeard. Not Edward. Edward better watch his fucking step," Izzy wanted exactly what he said: Blackbeard. The captain Izzy knew, the one whose reputation kept them safe.

Basically, Izzy wanted the status quo.

Although we were told Edward had cut off other people's toes, we didn't have any indication before episode 10 that Edward had ever maimed Izzy personally.

But The Kraken ≠ Blackbeard.

When Izzy said, "Blackbeard is himself again," he was basically saying, "Yeah, cutting off a toe in retaliation for insubordination tracks for Blackbeard." He really might have known something along those lines could happen to him! I mean, he certainly seemed to see the loss of one toe as an acceptable trade to get Blackbeard back, to return to "the uzhe."

But when it happens more than once, and affects Izzy enough to actually cry in front of the crew ... that's clearly not "the uzhe."

The Kraken is not who Izzy was trying to get back.

And the Kraken's actions are NOT what Izzy asked for.

The most beautiful thing from this season so far in my opinion is Ed and Izzy's relationship

It's fucked up, they love each other in all the wrong ways, they're abusive, they're toxic, they ruin each other, they drive the other to death, suicide, to break everything they touch when they're with one another

At some point it may have been the opposite, but even then they weren't meant to be and they've fallen into hell and cannot save the other no matter how hard they try they cannot please the other

Their love is horrible, but it is still love, and while everyone else talks about how love saves (Ed and Stede), is joy (Pete and Lucius), changes (Fang and Jim), is forever shifting and "undeserved" (Jim and Izzy), and takes on so many forms (Jim, Archie, Olu, and Susan)

Everyone should know love is hell, it kills, it harms, it's ruthless and painful and diseased, and it just is one of the most powerful weapons of destruction in the world, Ed and Izzy show that side of love so perfectly it makes me go insane

Love is so many things and it's shown in every corner of this show

You know there’s a line in ep 1 of the sickening during shilo’s intro that’s something like ‘i don’t know how those two get along, he’s a monster’ that’s from one of the guards to another guard abt shilo and Lazarus that I always took as meaning that Lazarus is seen as a monster but. The other interpretation is very interesting to think abt! Another guard later pretty much begs shilo not to talk to him bc otherwise he’d be ‘marked for death’ and how no one who talks to shilo lasts longer than a day and I’m just like.

Do you think the guards warn each other. Do they say not to talk to the prince, no matter how sweet and innocent it seems, because doing so will doom you? The guards have to have some kind of community, some kind of camaraderie. Enough to earn each other on how to not get killed, at the very least. But the first guard shilo gets killed is new and hasn’t talked to the other guard very much. The second guard is less willing to talk to shilo but he ends up doing so, of course he does. And the third one at that point fully believes his actions are of his own free will.

I think what part of makes shilo so compelling to me is how he is in no way malicious with his actions. He doesn’t want to kill these guards or get these guards killed, he isn’t doing it out of hatred or enjoyment or even boredom. He just. Does not see them as anything more then things to talk to sometimes and use in his escape attempts. They get replaced quick enough. But from an outside perspective? Of course he’d seem monstrous. Even amongst a whole castle full of monsters, a young, mysterious prince who has never been outside the castle walls, who is rumored to doom anyone he talks to, all while seeming so sweet and innocent, so out of the norm in vampire society? A prince who can easily manipulate your actions and thoughts and will do so without a second thought not because he is intending to use you but because he genuinely doesn’t see anything wrong with it?

Of course that seems like a monster. Of course you’d wonder how others could bear to talk to him when it could so easily doom them. Mark them for death. like-a day? they barely even last a day.

This isn’t actually a real problem it’s just a pet peeve of mine but every time I see someone write or draw Izzy and Ed as bright eyed bushy tailed kids(read late teens early 20s) on Hornigolds ship making dumb fuck promises to each other that they’re going to break/won’t be able to keep back before the world chewed them up and spit them out I die inside a little bit because there is a grizzled villain with a cold heart that plays that roll much better than Izzy ever could and it’s Calico fucking Jack. You are taking that roll away from my bestest boy.

Because like it or not there is canon evidence that Jack played that roll in Ed’s life and there’s no canon evidence that Izzy ever did, and in fact there’s evidence against it. I’ll start with the evidence against Izzy. It’s scant but it’s there. “I was honored to work for the legendary Blackbeard” is not something a man who has known Ed since before he was Blackbeard would say, but it is something someone who was hired on after the legend was already established would. everything about the way that Izzy acts about Ed being vulnerable all of a sudden screams that he didn’t know Ed before the Blackbeard mask.

Calico Jack on the other hand has textually known Ed since they first became outlaws. When they interact with each other they’re playing like they’re boys again, or at least much younger men. They drink like there’s no tomorrow, they put their bodies through hell in the name of fun, they line up empty bottles to shoot whip them of the fence boat railing, and they have a fun little name for everything. And while we the audience never see a softer side to Jack because he’s there with a specific nefarious goal and he is built to cause problems on purpose, we’re told it’s there by Ed. Ed, the one person on the ship who actually knows who the fuck Jack is tells us that “Jack’s always been a bit emotional, the two of you(Jack and Stede) actually have more in common than you think. I know he comes on a bit strong at first but he’s insecure.”

Like to me that establishes very clearly that they were friends when they were young and dumb, maybe not very close friends, but compatriots who bonded through the struggles they went through as young men who the world and their boss was beating down on, and that Jack at least opened up to Ed enough for Ed to know that he’s insecure. We also know that these two were fucking ambitious. They fucking grew up to be two of the most notorious pirates on the seven seas. If anyone was going to make stupid fucking promises to each other and then drift apart it would be them I can imagine Jack telling Ed that they’re always gonna be together and that the whole sea is gonna fear their names, and then at some point they out grow that. A ship only has one captain. The world chewed them up and spit them back out and made Ed bored, lonely, guilt ridden, and suicidal and it turned Jack into an alcoholic and a manipulative monster who believes that pirates don’t have friends and who chases his own pleasure at the expense of everyone else even himself. Like I can clearly see the through line to a relationship like I described with Ed and Jack but I have to really stretch my imagination to see Ed and Izzy that way. It just kind of annoys me when Izzy gets to have that spot in Ed’s life in the fandom’s mind when Jack is right there and that’s a good half of what makes Jack fun and interesting.

Everyone talks about how Roy killed Lust as a symbolic proof that he is devoted to actual love but no one talks about how Envy was outed by Riza almost immediately as a symbol of her always accepting what she has and even being content with it. Maybe love IS a narrative force and theme to be reckoned with (and rightly so!), but content when you have so many reasons not to be and when others sometimes have what you don't? That's super cool, too
