Room Refresh: A Simple Way to Improve Mental Health
🌿✨ Refreshing your rooms not only brightens your space but also boosts your mental well-being. Discover simple changes that can create a more calming and inspiring environment. #MentalHealthMatters #HomeRefresh #calmspaces #MindfulLiving #positivevibes
Today, I spent hours rearranging my closet, bedroom and living room. It wasn’t because they weren’t functional-each space served their purposes just fine. But I wanted them to be more organized, visually appealing and have a better flow to them. The process was exhausting and took longer than I expected because my youngest has been battling a cold meaning she’s moody and more fussy than normal.…

here to remind you...
...that taking it slow from time to time is not the same as making excuses or taking the easy way out.
it shows that you care about yourself and your mental health. it's actually tougher to let the control go and slow down.
appreciate yourself for being aware enough to slow down. you deserve to take it easy and rest a little every now and then ✨

“do the hardest task first”
no. just… no.
hot take: this doesn’t work for people with adhd (in my experience/from what i’ve heard from other people with adhd in my life). i recommend doing the easy/moderately difficult stuff first, that way you can convince yourself that it’s all going to be this easy and undemanding. then hyper-focus will kick in because your brain is like, “yeah, we can do this, we’ve got this.” then, before you know it, you’ve completed both the easy tasks and the hard tasks while hyperfocusing.
like, on a serious note, it’s always been easier for me to convince myself to get the most difficult tasks done when i’m already working/in the working frame of mind, not when i’m laying in bed or sitting on the couch, mindlessly scrolling through stuff on my phone, and struggling to start at all.
if the choice comes down to you not starting at all or starting with the easiest task first (which, for me, it often does), always, always pick starting with the easiest task first. sometimes you need a small victory, a little bit of an accomplishment, to give you the courage to take on bigger challenges.

if you are 1) currently in a university where your student healthcare covers hormone therapy, and 2) in a good financial, emotional, and social position to start hormone therapy, i would recommend pursuing it. because in my experience, it's a huge pain in the ass to get an endocrinologist once you're on your own
#unless you live near a planned parenthood or another equivalent to that#but in general you might as well take advantage of the mandatory student health insurance while you have it#it's also cheaper than you might expect. my vials cost $40 CAD for 4 months and then the injection materials are like a couple dollars each#for me i got a therapist with the university and asked them to recommend me to one of the uni's doctors#so i got to skip some of the waitlisting process yay#and then even after getting access to hormones i went to the clinic maybe 5 or 6 times because i needed a nurse to help me with injections#all of which was 'free' because it was with the university#now that i'm graduated though i need to find a new endocrinologist and it turns out the process is WAY more complicated on your own 🤡#of course your mileage may vary depending on how based your school is but it's definitely worth checking imo 🤷#beepbeep.txt#wanted to say this because i basically didn't use the uni health services until my last year and i was like 'wow#'i'm actually getting so much shit for free right now'#like i was seeing a therapist and a dietician and the endocrinologist and a nurse simultaneously at one point#and i might've missed out on all that if i didn't have someone tell me how easy it was to get help if you ask the right questions#so there's my word of wisdom for anyone who might benefit from it.......#also going to post tips about injections later because i think that would also help people out 👍

the in-between moments
When you're improving yourself, and working on creating a better life overall, you'll experience a lot of what I like to call 'in-between' moments. It happens when you're faced with the comfortable urge to watch TV but have the mental thinking to go on a walk and listen to a podcast. It happens when you're on that walk and wish you were watching tv instead.
You're transforming into a new you, and it's going to take leaving behind the old you; here's some ways to make that a little easier.
🏋️Grab your laptop or phone and put on a YouTube exercise video in front of your TV. Then set your phone up where you can see the movements, but also watch whatever TV show you want to do.
🏋️Make a split window on your laptop. Sign into a streaming service or watch a movie some other way online in one window. On the other window, put on a exercise video.
🏋️ Get on the treadmill for 20 minutes, walking 3mph. (I do this and I feel fantastic afterwards.) Alter this workout until it works for you. Up the speed, slow it down, change the time, whatever you need. But watch Tiktoks while you're doing this. Get your daily scroll in and your daily movement.
🚿Listen to podcasts or the news in your shower.
🚿 Listen to a podcast when you're doing your morning (or night) skincare routine! Mindset-focused podcasts are miracle workers early in the morning.
🥪Get healthier versions of your favorite snacks and sneak them into your diet one by one. (Compare sodium levels and calories if you're in a calorie deficit for your workout routine. Consult your doctor. Don't listen to me or anyone else that isn't you or a licensed professional about your body.)
💻Limit your screen time by listening to audiobooks and giving your eyes a break. Learn the skill of listening and not ruining your eyesight. (Looking at you, Wattpaders.)
📚 Sit down and read 10 pages everyday - of a fiction book. Then 5 pages of fiction and nonfiction. Ease into it. Read a nonfiction book about your favorite interests. Love writing? Pick up an author's autobiography. Love drama? Pick up a political scandal book. Love food? Pick up a book about the history of food and it's significance in the development of cultures.

Its important to remember that self-destructive behavior doesn't always stem from self-hatred or sabotage. For example, the time I didn't drink water for a day and a half because I liked how it made my voice sound
