Is it time to buy an online gaming PC?
There was a time when buying an online gaming PC was not only for people with more money than time, but times have changed. The prices have come down to the point where building your own doesn't save you as much as it once did. However, even if you pay a premium price, you get perks like support, warranties, and discounts by buying a prebuilt. But before you swipe your credit card, there are a few crucial things to remember to ensure prebuilt is right for you before purchasing an online gaming PC.
Tumblr media
Is now a good time to buy?
When is the ideal time to buy a gaming PC? They can cost as high as a used car, without the getting-to-places utility, and prove as selective as a large houseplant (without the air-cleansing benefits). Hear us out, though. Gaming PCs can last a decade if you invest time and money.
Gaming PCs are a social play environment where you can sit and enjoy with friends. They offer access to an ecosystem of several games in which you and your friends occupy the same digital space — in MMORPGs like the World of Warcraft, competitive shooters like the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, and MOBAs like League of Legends, and in the infrastructure of PC online gaming apps like Discord and Steam.
What can you do with a gaming PC?
Gaming PCs have a great range. Let's talk about online gaming first. If you want to spend time looming over a rainbow-lit mechanical keyboard playing League of Legends and enjoying it with friends, we are completely behind that. That is a respectable existence. It's the face of PC gaming—hardcore hardware running a hardcore game. Most top-level competitive gamers and sports pros generally buy online gaming PC because it generally means more accuracy, more fidelity, and fewer lags.
Should you choose to buy a gaming PC or build one?
Whenever someone talks about buying a gaming PC, their first response is, "Why don't you build one instead? It's not only cheaper, and you can get better specs." Here's the thing: That's probably true. Research which video card can max out the settings on the games you love, which case would look perfect on your desk, and which colour LEDs would match your gaming chair. If all that sounds right to you, and you are okay putting in the time and energy, you should do that.

like i wouldnt mind like. Not having new linear games post 5 its judt that sims 4 wasnt even supposed to Be The Sims 4 it was a last minute pivot and the base code is so outdated and was broken On launch so like. i just wish we could have the final actual sims game be like. one that was always intented to be a major sims release AND be intended to be so long term . yk
#i dont even want like. Ooh major graphical updates whatever if sims 5 was announced and they looked photorealizstic id hurl i wouldnt play#it#my ideal would ig be sims 4 with a touch more realism style wise. if this makes sense#like its a bittt too cartoony for me but i like the like. Clay hair or whatever SJFNFJ. and i think having it be simple in basegame means#you can customize it easier + itd run better on more pcs#so im fine eith that. i would nottt want it more cartoony#i also like. I understand the sims is like. an all ages game i do sometimes wish that the animations in 4 were a bit toned down#like i dont mind silly goofy wacky stuff i think its fun and like. The sims has always been a bit sillay yk. but the overexaggerated#animations r sometimes like -_-.... to me. but thats personal preference#IDK. the tags that show up when i type idk r so funny. do i ever know anything. sources say no#BUT ya i just rly wish like. if this is what they wanna do i wish theyd give us One more full game give it lots of time and love and rly rly#focus on having it excel at like. being this partnof the sims#since they wanna have like. Other sims games that have online features and multiplayer and everything. they could use that to make sure that#ts5 was Rly solid as a foundation and as like. ykwim..... they could plan updates for the future And dlc or whatever and i just think itd be#a better move than trying to make sims 4 happen#bc i judt dont think With all the updates in the world. sims 4 wont ever be like. what it couldve been. yk. i just dont think you can make#it work without Fullllyyyy just starting over.#and at this point with like..so many modders and stuff and everything and how much dlc there is thatd be impossible Esp if they keep#releasing new stuff which. They will ^_^#idk. im excited for some other lifesim games im keeping my eye out#but i rly do love the sims and i just wish that it could be as good as it could be. It has such a huge budget and team and like. if ea would#stop just trying to make as much money as possible off it i feel like they could make Such an amazing game. not to put down indie gamedevs#at all the games jve been looking at look Incredible like.. yk. but the fact those games are so good eith FAR smaller teams and budgets is#like. imagine what we could have if the sims had that amt of care and time put into it.#but whatever whatever whatever. sorry im just rambling#again ik what i would want from my platonic ideal of a sims game isnt what everyone would eant#but idk. i feel like another good step might be like. making the other sims games more available and updating them so they run better on#modern pcs. but i dont think thatll ever happen DNDNFJFNFN.

You know one of the few things I like about getting older?
I can actually convince myself that I 'don't need' something, and believe it.
PS5? Don't need it. Too expensive, only got one PS5 game in my collection, and it's basically a remaster of a remake of the original Hyperdimension Neptunia. Sure, I can play my PS4 collection on it, but I still have my PS4, and between it and the PS3, I'm more likely to play the PS3.
Looking to upgrade my computer, because it's at least a 5 year old gaming laptop running a Radeon 560x (had to boot up Sonic Adventure 2 to check that)? Well guess what, chucklenuts (me)? You don't play many of the modern games that need beefier hardware! And even then, this old warhorse can handle those games on the lowest graphical settings! The only problem it's facing right now is slow startup times in the morning, and you already fixed that with a good defrag! You don't NEED an upgrade; you're playing Metal Wolf Chaos XD!
As you can see, the ability to say 'no' to my spending habits has done wonders for my own ego. I AM BETTER THAN MYSELF! If I'm going to waste money, I'm going to waste it on old Fire Emblem games! And Nendoroids of Neptunia and Date A Live characters! And books to help me learn Japanese, because I've been bitten by the manga-translating bug!
... But only if I have the budget for them! Still gotta be responsible.

do you think the amount of hatred games like 06 and shadow 05 gather is because the people criticizing them grew up with video game consoles with a lot of beloved and classic video games. because those games really do not deserve the infamy they get, i think they're treated as dogshit because a big video game franchise dropped the ball pretty hard and that makes them an easy and entertaining target for bashing. i did not grow up with game consoles, i grew up with flash games and a couple PC games i played with my sisters. the former has quality ranging anywhere from revolutionary to horrible, and the PC games we had were low-budget horse games. most had terrible progression and grindy gameplay filled with fetch quests, and the only redeemable aspect of them was that you had a funny horse and a semi-open world to explore with it. those were not good games, a lot of them also came with glitches that freaked us out because we were like 8 at the time. the first actual console we had was a DS and the first game we had for it was a shovelware LPS game that my sister "borrowed" from one of her friends (i still have it somewhere). these are not good games, but i think everyone knows that. a lot of people wouldn't have even played them because they had better games on home consoles. perhaps games like shth and 06 were their first looks into games that weren't as polished as their peers. perhaps they never had a funny low-budget horse game where every other save file you make is buggy and unplayable. perhaps they don't know of how unloved something can get

did anyone else here grow up with the nancy drew pc game series when they were a kid? those were my lifeblood in elementary school, and while i still do very much stan, the games are really old at this point and it's hard to get them to run, especially if you using macOS.
imo the market these games occupied has never been correctly filled in the time since the nd games' production schedule ground to a halt, even though i know they were a very niche product to begin with. i think people forget about this now, but in the late 90s and early aughts, it was still pretty unusual for children to have video game consoles and it was kind of assumed that the entire market for games were boys and men. so there was an additional prong of the gaming industry that was more geared towards young girls, but they were generally pc games that didn't ask a lot of your computer for them to work. there are some indie games that kinda scratch the same itch if you look for them, but i loved how these hit a very specific cross-section of "unapologetically sort of janky", "popular enough that you could buy them at walmart or target", and "possible to beat even if you thoroughly suck at video games".
imo "life is strange" is the closest thing we've gotten in recent years in terms of it being plot driven, the spiritual successor of point and click adventure games wrt the mechanics of it, and in the grey area of "hidden gem" and "decidedly mainstream", but lis doesn't exactly have puzzles in it.
and to add insult to injury, the development co still exists and still cranks out a game every few years, but they've moved away from the point and click format and did a really bad job modernizing the engine in general. the most recent game took an insane amount of processing power to run, which sort of defeated the purpose of "here's a game you can enjoy, even if you don't have a gaming pc/aren't running a bitcoin mine in your basement". and even if you did, it still ran poorly and looked bad. the point?! what was it?!
