Currently, we are between melting and suffocating from the weird heat we have in this country. Somehow , our spring and summer can never be a little normal, but have to start off with extremes when it comes to weather in our type of climate.
Currently, we have summer heat , which would be great, but here we have more moist in the air and it is hell for those with , for example COPD. My mom having this is not having a good time.
Brother and I are taking care of her ofcourse. Instead of being home, I am staying with them and helping out. Silver lining: despite the weird weather and the effect it has on people, we still manage to have good times and enjoy things as much as possible.
Currently binging Cold Case series, oldie but still good to see while hanging on the couch and hoping for something cool lol.
When the weather permits, we take mom out in the wheelchair and enjoy a little walk or go to the stores and just enjoy spring/summer.
The cats from my moms neighbours also seem to enjoy the outdoors and the fence, always great fun with these 2 around!

So in short: I might not be as active right now, but I blame the weather and the fact that I am between melting and wanting to jump into the fridge and read a book there ....
See ya all soon again while more active and keep warm/cold/cool/hot, whatever floats yer boat !
#just a lill messege and a complaint about our weird weather#Oh I also added a cat picture#Don`t you all just love that wackyness of cats sometimes?

What is the best room temperature for COPD?

The ideal air temperature and humidity level for COPD patients are 70 degrees and 40%, respectively. The mixture keeps airways relaxed, which lowers the likelihood of symptoms. Source The lungs and airways are affected by the chronic and progressive respiratory condition known as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). A person's everyday life may be greatly impacted by this ailment, which frequently results in breathing problems, coughing, wheezing, and shortness of breath. It can be difficult for people with COPD to breathe in some environments, especially when the air is excessively hot, cold, dry, or humid. The ideal environmental conditions for COPD patients, according to medical professionals, are those with an air temperature of about 70 degrees Fahrenheit and a humidity level of 40%. The airways are kept open and relaxed by the combination of warmth and humidity, which lowers the likelihood of symptoms. The body tends to work harder to regulate its internal temperature when the air is excessively hot or cold, which can narrow the airways and produce COPD symptoms. On the other side, when the air is overly humid, breathing can be challenging since it requires more effort on the part of the lungs to get oxygen out of the air.Maintaining a comfortable indoor temperature and humidity level can be challenging, especially during extreme weather conditions. However, there are several ways COPD sufferers can create an environment that is conducive to their respiratory health. One way is to use a humidifier or dehumidifier to regulate indoor humidity levels. A humidifier can add moisture to dry air, while a dehumidifier can remove excess moisture from humid air. Another way is to install an air conditioning system that can maintain a consistent indoor temperature throughout the year.COPD patients should manage the temperature and humidity indoors and stay away from environmental irritants including smoking, dust, and pollution. These irritants can exacerbate the breathing difficulties caused by COPD. Additionally, it's critical to periodically clean carpets, draperies, and other surfaces that might collect dust and allergens in order to maintain appropriate indoor air quality. In conclusion, providing COPD patients with the ideal atmosphere can greatly enhance their quality of life. COPD sufferers can lessen the likelihood of symptoms and breathe better by maintaining a reasonable interior temperature and humidity level, avoiding environmental allergens, and keeping indoor air clean. We picked covariates a priori based upon well-known organizations with lung function or temperature level, and for consistency with previous magazines. We specified present asthma as a record of wheeze in the previous twelve month, or a present doctor medical diagnosis of asthma. We specified chronic obstructive lung condition based on a record of everyday coughing for at least three consecutive months of the year or an existing diagnosis of chronic respiratory disease, COPD or emphysema. We used sine and cosine functions of the exam day to control for period. We appointed previous-day PM2.5 utilizing the Harvard Supersite screen as an indicator of local particle contamination, as well as did not adjust for O3 in our key model because the screens in Eastern Massachusetts might not show local direct exposure. What is the impact of chronic lung disease in Australia?
In recent months, we have faced very poor air quality caused by the bushfires that pushed air quality to 11 times the hazardous level. Poor air quality can have a significant impact on the health and wellbeing of those of us living with asthma and respiratory diseases. Nowadays air quality will be front of mind for most of us.
The air pollution has dramatically increased the effects of chronic lung diseases. Chronic lung diseases are an umbrella term which covers all the major prolonged respiratory complications and are commonly referred to as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Emphysema, non-reversible asthma and chronic bronchitis are the most common conditions that make up COPD. The respiratory disease is characterized by increasing breathlessness. One in every nine Australians is suffering from this disease.
Most of chronic lung diseases are incurable but can only be managed by proper preventive measures.
In Australia, we have about 6.1 million people who are living with a chronic lung condition.
The following chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases are most prevalent lung diseases in Australia:
1. Asthma: We, in Australia, have the highest record of asthma patients than any other country. One in 7 children and one in 10 adults suffer from this disease.
2. Chronic Sinusitis: This disease is also a prevalent condition among us. On an average, 7% of Australians suffer from chronic sinusitis.
3. Other chronic diseases, like bronchiectasis and pneumoconiosis, also have intense effects on a one’s health but these are less prevalent.
What are the symptoms of COPD?
Significant symptoms of COPD are breathlessness after exertion or in intense cases in rest; prolonged cough; fatigue; chest infections. In some cases, the body starts turning blue due to lack of proper oxygen supply in the body. The problem with COPD is that these diseases develop very slowly so that they are not even noticeable in primary stage and can only be detected when they become severe.
What are the effects of COPD on the proper functioning of your lungs?
1. Emphysema causes shortness of breath, as the disease damages the air sacs in the lungs. Over time, the inner walls rupture reducing the amount of oxygen that goes into the bloodstream. In severe conditions the patient feels breathlessness even while resting.
2. Bronchitis is moreover an ongoing painful lung disorder. Due to this disease the bronchi get inflamed or swollen. It causes increased cough problem due to excess fluid production in the lungs.
3. Chest infection: COPD frequently triggers chest infection. A patient easily contracts a chest infection even from a common cold.
Diseases like asthma causes deflation of the lungs, because patients with COPD develop air pockets in their lungs and these air pockets are susceptible of bursting from coughing.
5. Damaged lungs initiate heart problems and other problems like pneumonia, oedema, osteoporosis, hypoxemia, anxiety and depression
In summary, these COPD symptoms trigger a sedentary lifestyle in patients.
How can you diagnose COPD?
COPD is diagnosed by a breathing test called a spirometer. Before undergoing this test, you should see the GP or lung specialist to diagnose COPD. This is done after a physical diagnosis, blood test reports and a complete medical history in hand. Once the breathing test is completed, other tests such as lung volume test, sputum analysis and chest x-ray are used to get the complete diagnosis of the problem.
What can you do to slow down the progress of COPD?
Make sure to take various precaution to slow down the progress and halt the triggering of COPD in a healthy body.
· Stop Smoking
· Avoid heavy lifting
· Avoid chores such as mowing, ranking and shoveling
· Avoid outdoor exercises when the weather is cold, hot or humid
· Eat healthy
How can you treat COPD?
COPD is incurable but can be managed with proper preventive measures to ease the effects of the condition such as:
- bronchodilator medication;
- corticosteroids;
- oxygen therapy;
- treatment for chest infections;
- pulmonary rehabilitation
These treatments have demonstrated to significantly improve the lung function.
The best way to get the medication straight to your lungs is via an inhaler or spacer. Both lung devices are essential for the treatment of chronic lung conditions. They help loosen the tight muscles of your airways, ensuring the patient can breathe easier. A spacer is used together with a puffer, which is a large volume holding chamber. They hold the medicine fired from the puffer so you can breathe it in slowly and deeply, while allowing more medicine to get deeper into your lungs.
In some cases, nebulised medicine may be prescribed. For that you need a nebuliser that pumps pressured air through liquid in the nebuliser bowl to form a fine mist that the patient can inhale through a mask or mouthpiece.
Air purifiers can be effective as it ensures a healthy indoor environment by filtering dust mite animal hair, odours, pollen, mould, bacteria and viruses, gases and allergens from the air. If you are looking to purchase an air purifier, make sure it includes a HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Air) filter as they filter 99.9% of particles in the air.
Physical activity: you can benefit from exercise and physical activity.
You could think of an aerobic exercise program like walking or cycling. A bike exerciser is a great low-impact device that will help you get fit again. Aim to exercise a few times a week for 20 to 30 minutes per session. The great advantage is that you can exercise from the comfort of your own home. Another good training program is a strength session to build up your muscles. Strength exercises include arm, leg and torso. Start your program slow and boost up the intensity if you feel more confident.
Conclusion:
In summary, in Australia chronic lung diseases are predominant across all age groups. Today more than 6 million Australians are suffering from one or more form of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Diseases (COPD).
The Australian government has initiated many awareness programs to reduce the progress of COPD’s. The only reliable method to live longer with these chronic diseases is to take all the necessary precautions measures, exercise better and eat mindfully. At Bettercaremarket, we have a range of lung devices that can help you manage your lung disease. You will find the right accessory for your need on our website.

‘High-rise hell’: Tenants at KCK apartment complex go month without A/C
KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Tenants at a KCK apartment complex were hot, sweaty and fed up when they contacted FOX4 for help. They went without air conditioning all month.
This has been the second hottest May on record, according to the National Weather Service. The average high this month was 84 degrees.
The residents at Crossline Towers said they’ve been through hell trying to find relief from the heat. After FOX4’s visit, the air was back on.
“When you’ve got breathing problems, you need cool air,” Teresa Evans said.
Her life was miserable all month because of the lack of air condition in the high-rise apartment on North 7th Street and State Avenue.
“They do this every year,” she said.
The 61-year-old, who suffers from emphysema and COPD, relied on fans to keep her cool.
“It’s hard to breathe,” she said. “You can’t sleep. Even when you get a little sleep, you wake up and feel tired and wore out. You just feel horrible.”
When FOX4 visited Evans on Tuesday afternoon, temperatures inside her unit were in the mid-90s.
“It doesn’t get cool until about 3 in the morning,” she said.
Jessie Ware lives two stories up from Evans.
“I’m standing outside because it’s actually cooler outside than it is in the building,” Ware said.
He has congestive heart failure and said the more tenants complained, the nastier management became.
“We`ve been trying and begging them to get it fixed,” he said. “Everybody is paying their rent, but they`re just throwing us around in circles.”
So FOX4 Problem Solvers went to visit management. KCK-based Hughes Development operates the building.
When FOX4’s Zac Summers went to the manager’s office, which is inside the same building, they had air conditioning. The property manager said the company’s owner told them to shut it down until the tenants had air. They wouldn’t say why that never happened.
But Property Management Director Jan Kennedy did say there was an issue with the power to the air conditioning chiller and blamed part of the delay on the Kansas City Board of Public Utilities.
She added that the building, which is more than 50 years old, has a two-party heating and cooling and that they have to wait until the heat is completely off until they can turn on the air conditioning.
“It’s always, ‘We got to order a part,’ or lately it’s BPU or an electrical issue,” Evans said.
A BPU spokesperson told FOX4 the outage had nothing to do with the utility company and suggested the maintenance team at the property didn’t prepare properly ahead of the steamy temperatures.
“It’s an unrespectable living situation,” Ware said.
Kennedy said management advised tenants of the issues and provided fans, but Evans and Ware said that wasn’t enough, considering how long the problem went unresolved.
“It’s sad. They’re quick to rush you to pay your rent, but won’t fix nothing in that building,” Ware said.
“If I had money to move back to my old high-rise, I’d be so happy,” Evans said.
The air conditioning at Crossline Towers came back on Wednesday around 1 p.m.

“Maintaining respiratory health.”
And others left general comments:
“I lost my last elderly (30+) horse a couple of years ago. Current horse is 12 but will be old someday!”
“Quality of life is key.”
“There is no 'biggest' concern. Most older horses have several of these concerns at once.”
“I have a 31-year-old Missouri Fox Trotter mare in great general health but missing some teeth.”
“I am very thankful that I have no problems with my 28-year-old gelding.”
“They have better chance of coping with arthritis if they're kept fit and active.”
“Weight, lameness, and diseases are my top three worries with seniors”
“Being active is what keeps them feeling young and happy.”
“Finn is 30. I hand walk him every morning for an hour or more, plenty of turnout; he is stabled with a run.”

Wheezing, a hissing sound at exhalation (breathe out)
Chest tightness and pain
Distended abdomen
Suffered with severe anxiety
Itchiness to throat and chin
Frequent cough at night

Allergy due to natural tendency/ airborne allergens (house dust, cockroaches) and irritants (tobacco smoke) trigger it.
Hereditary
Childhood respiratory infection
Environmental and biologic triggers like infections, dietary patterns, hormonal changes in women etc.
Hypersensitivity from allergens like molds, animal dander, grass, pollens, hair, lint and grains.
Some drugs and medications are also responsible for it. Ex. aspirin and non steroidal drugs.
Fluctuation/Change in weather.
Digestive disorders
Affliction in gastrointestinal tract
Diet for Asthma
Chew your food properly and eat slowly with relax mind. To avoid over-fullness on chest, always eat less than your capacity and avoid imbalanced diet. If diet changes as per complementary and alternative medicine, there is a greater chance to bring relief in asthma. One should take diet as per COPD guidelines. Children are also at greater risk of the condition because some foods are the biggest trigger of asthma attack among children. Children with obesity are prone to it, so diet, weight loss regime and fitness is must here to reduce cholesterol.
Green leafy vegetable, fresh fruits and herbs are quite effective for the condition due to its antioxidant features.
Onion contains ‘quercetin’, an anti-inflammatory compound and considered as most effective remedy.
Hot pungent may make breathing easier by opening air passage.
Citrus fruits due to its greater content of Vitamin C have inherent power to fight it.
Predominately vegetarian diet is the good option for the patients.
Foods rich in Vitamin A play a vital role in curing it.
Oxygen carrying capacity of blood increases owing to antioxidant property of Vitamin E.
Essential fatty acids, particularly omega-3 oils reduce inflammation and alleviate attacks.
The therapeutic aspects of Tulsi can’t be ignored.
Flavonoids of apples reduce inflammation.
Nasal acuteness can be minimized by taking turmeric along with honey.
Eating of ginger and black pepper is advisable.
Take more and more lukewarm water.
Asthmatic diet should contain of limited quantity of carbohydrate, protein and fats. He should also take more and more quantity of alkaline foods like fresh fruits, green vegetables and Bengal gram.
Foods not for asthma
Avoid sugar, rice, pickles, ice cream, cold drinks, curds etc. as all those help in phlegm formation.
Spicy and pungent foods should also be avoided.
Foods like cider, wine, beer and cheese may provoke asthma attack.
Allergen foods that ar
Try some of the following tips” How to reduce asthma naturally”.1. Keep an Asthma Diary
Every day, track your asthma symptoms to get a better grasp on your condition. This can help you discover your triggers and see patterns in your attacks. Your diary might include information like any asthma symptoms you experienced that day, what you were doing and where you were at the time of an attack, your medication, your diet, exercise etc.
Keeping all of this valuable data in one place will help you and your doctor lessen or prevent future attacks.
2. Get Some Sun
Despite its name, Vitamin D is actually a steroid hormone that our bodies produce when we get enough sunshine. And a whole body of research highlights Vitamin D’s important role in treating asthma.
After all, Vitamin D is vital for healthy bones, muscles, heart, brain and lungs. And what is asthma but a lung disease?
Research has found that a lack of Vitamin D is linked with a 50% increase in the risk of severe asthma attacks in children. Further studies show that Vitamin D from sun exposure during pregnancy significantly reduces the incidence of asthma in children.
3. Avoid Smoke
Even if you don’t smoke (and nobody should!) steer clear of those who do. Tobacco smoke is a powerful trigger of asthma symptoms. Not only does the smoke irritate the airways, but it damages tiny hair-like structures in the airways which remove dust and mucus, and prompts the lungs to make more mucus. All this leads to an accumulation of mucus in the airways, which could trigger an attack.
Shockingly, environmental tobacco smoke maybe even more harmful than actually smoking as the smoke that burns off the end of a cigar or cigarette contains more harmful substances than that inhaled by the smoker!
Likewise, the smoke from a fireplace or wood burning stove can set you up for an asthma attack. When the temperatures drop, dial up the thermostat or try one of these natural ways to stay warm instead.
4. Know Your Triggers
Knowing your triggers is a hugely important part of avoiding asthma attacks. It’s also one of the reasons why keeping an asthma diary is imperative. Anything from strongly scented foods to cold air or air fresheners can cause a flare-up so take note and take steps to avoid them in future.
5. Remove Home Allergens
Many people with asthma have allergies: dust mites, animal dander, mold, pollen and pests can all bring on an attack.
While no home can be 100% allergen free, eliminating as many of these potential triggers as possible can go a long way to ensuring you are in better control of your asthma symptoms.
6. Reduce Stress
While chronic stress isn’t healthy for anyone, it can be especially worrying for those with asthma. 69% of people with the condition consider stress to be an asthma trigger. That’s unsurprising, given that stress releases hormones in the body that send us into ‘fight or flight’ mode. They do this by increasing our heart rate and altering out breathing.
Learning how to cope with stress is an important strategy for asthmatics. Try exercise, massage, meditation, hydrotherapy or relaxing salt baths. Breathing techniques can be especially helpful in reducing stress and aiding asthma sufferers, as controlling breathing is key to managing an attack.
7. Maintain a Healthy Weight
Much research has found that obese people are more likely to experience more severe asthma symptoms than those with a normal body weight.
Not only is obesity associated with worse asthma flare-ups and an increase in hospitalizations, but adults who lose weight experience significant improvements in their asthma symptoms.
8. Exercise
Since maintaining a healthy body weight is so important for asthma management, exercise plays an important role in any asthmatic’s treatment plan.
However, exercise can be a trigger for many so it’s important to discuss an exercise regimen with your doctor before trying anything new. As a general guideline, anything that involves short, intermittent periods of exertion – like gymnastics, interval running and golf – are well tolerated by people with asthma.
Activities that involve long periods of exertion – such as long distance running, basketball or soccer can be problematic. Cold-weather sports can also trigger symptoms, whereas swimming can be very beneficial as it involves breathing in warm, moist air.
When participating in exercise, it can be helpful to warm up very slowly, and practice controlling your breathing – yoga can offer useful techniques in this respect.
As challenging as it can be to workout with asthma, it can be done! More than 20% of the US Olympic team competing in the 1996 Atlanta Summer Games reportedly had asthma, while 70% of top UK swimmers and 33% of professional British cyclists suffer from some form of condition.

Train hauling 10 million pounds of human feces stranded in Alabama town
PARRISH, Ala. – Right now, dozens of train cars carrying 10 million pounds of poop are stranded in a rural Alabama rail yard. Technically it’s biowaste, but to the 982 residents in the small town of Parrish, that’s just semantics.
They want it gone. The load has been there for almost two months, and it’s making the whole place smell like a rotting animal carcass.
To add insult to injury, it isn’t even their poop. For the last year, waste management facilities in New York and one in New Jersey have been shipping tons of biowaste — literally, tons — to Big Sky Environmental, a private landfill in Adamsville, Alabama. But in January, the neighboring town of West Jefferson filed an injunction against Big Sky to keep the sludge from being stored in a nearby rail yard.
It was successful — but as a result, the poo already in transit got moved to Parrish, where there are no zoning laws to prevent the waste from being stored.
‘God help us if it gets hot’
Parrish Mayor Heather Hall said she is doing everything in her power to get the feculent freight out of her town.
“It’s so frustrating,” Hall said. Last week, Hall met with Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey, and she and other Montgomery lawmakers told Hall they would help get it sorted out. “They’re trying to work behind the scenes to get us a little bit of help, but we’ve been told that for weeks, and there’s still no solution.”

Hall said the stench permeates everything. The rail yard is across from a baseball field and next to a softball field. Parrish only measures about 2 square miles, and pretty much everything is within smelling distance.
“It greatly reduces the quality of life,” Hall said. “You can’t sit out on your porch. Kids can’t go outside and play, and God help us if it gets hot and this material is still out here.” On Tuesday, when Hall spoke to CNN, the temperature in Parrish reached 81 degrees.
“You can’t open your door because that stuff gets in your house. It’s really rough,” Parrish resident Robert Hall told CNN affiliate WVTM. Other residents said the waste smelled like dead bodies.
‘Is that not a public health issue?’
The Environmental Protection Agency and the Alabama Department of Environmental Management have both told Hall the material isn’t dangerous, because it’s supposed to be Grade A biowaste, not raw sewage (which is also the reason for the unique smell).
She’s willing to take them at their word, but that doesn’t mean she and other Parrish residents aren’t concerned.
“Other than it smelling absolutely terrible, I have to trust them that it’s not going to hurt you,” she said. “But if you have asthma or COPD or breathing problems, what is that going to do to you? [The rail yard] is probably less than 50 yards away from homes. What happens if flies get into someone’s house? Is that not a public health issue?”
Hall said her colleagues in the capital city of Montgomery have asked her not to file an injunction against the landfill, not that it would be a smart idea anyway; if they went to court over the matter, the other matter would just sit there, stinking up Parrish, until the trial was over.
‘They keep telling us the situation is almost over’
So, in short, nobody knows when the poop will be moved.
“I’m just getting little bits and pieces of information, and I cannot tell you how frustrating it is,” Hall said. “My understanding is, they are really trying to work on the problem, and they keep telling us the situation is almost over.”
Hall hasn’t been in contact with Big Sky for a few weeks. When she first spoke to the company, when the cars of waste were just beginning to be stockpiled in Parrish’s rail yard, they told her it would take seven to 10 days to move them out. That was two months ago.
CNN contacted Big Sky and is waiting to receive comment.
Parrish isn’t the only town on the waste route that has been dealing with the fetid fallout. According to AL.com, residents in Birmingham were livid when at least 80 train cars full of the sludge came to a stop in their city in January.
Hall said, at one point, there were 252 tractor-trailer loads of the stuff stockpiled in her town.
“People need to understand that this waste does not need to be in a populated area,” she said. “There are places to put it, industrial places. We’re a very small town caught in the middle of this, and I feel like that’s part of the issue here. This shouldn’t be happening.”
