Girl in the Fireplace Rant (cont.)

There was at least some engagement on my last post about this so I decided I will in fact post a follow up. GitF was 100% a bad faith episode. Moffat wrote it because he is classist and misogynistic and hates Rose. Unfortunately, part of his purpose for the episode was to show that the Doctor will always prefer a “classy” aristocrat over Rose and he wanted to have her treated as nothing. So, all of us Rose fans have to come up with a headcanon that undermines the writer’s intentions.

I think the most common one is to believe the episode was the Doctor’s attempts to push Rose away because of her mortality and how that scares him.

That never worked for me because a major part of the Doctor’s character is his protectiveness. He would never push her away to the point of danger or abandonment. For me, I feel that fictional or not, the actions of the Doctor in that episode would be entirely unforgivable if they did happen. So my headcanon is that this episode was a nightmare Rose had.

If you are like me are also one of the fans for whom the pushing her away theory doesn’t work, read on for my explanation of why I don’t think GitF could be an actual event within canon. Moffat may be a BBC writer but it doesn’t give him a right to completely undermine the show, it doesn’t actually belong to anyone outside of financial concerns. If you’re content with believing he needed to push Rose away and that the episode did happen, you can ignore this.

Why the events GitF did not happen within canon (but could’ve happened as a nightmare)

1. Doctor Who canon is very loose as it is. With multiple writers across multiple mediums, things do contradict each other and us as fans get to decide for ourselves what fits with canon and what does not.

2. The Doctor has been clearly shown to be in love with Rose. He is protective of her to the point that if a decision will kill everyone else but give her even a slight chance of survival, he can’t actually make that decision. He almost did in Dalek, but after she didn’t get through the barricade the first time he was incapable of significantly reducing her safety for the good of everyone else. He snapped awake from a regeneration coma just because Rose said “help me”. He freaked out when Cassandra had her body and again in Tooth and Claw when she was in trouble. If you count Stone Rose that almost certainly took place before GitF and he once again, lost his mind over Rose being a statue.

I do understand seeing Sarah Jane age freaked him out. And I could’ve understood him distancing himself from Rose a bit in some way. But his instinct to protect her is so strong he’d never sacrifice her safety to push her away. Leaving her alone with clockwork for an extended period of time while he partied and invented drinks is impossible enough. Let alone the way he believed he’d have no way back to the ship when he went through the time window for the last time. Not only had he just promised she could spend the rest of her life with him, but her and Mickey would’ve likely died alone on that abandoned spaceship.

Simply, it’s just too out of character to happen within the rest of the Ninth and Tenth Doctors’ canon.

3. The horse. I have been a big horse person my entire life. Horses have extremely strong flight instincts. Even the most trusting and well trained horse in the world is never going to jump through reinforced glass. I do realize as Sci Fi fans we have to suspend disbelief for a lot of things. But we are never given an explanation as to why this horse would behave so dramatically differently from another horse. Every bizarre thing we accept in the DW universe is explained to some extent. There is a book where the Doctor tames a horse with psychic paper. But that horse is never asked to violate its instincts. That horse behaves as any other tame horse behaves. That is an example of acceptable DW suspension of belief. There is still a sci fi/alien technical explanation and I can absorb it. I cannot absorb a horse jumping through a firm glass window unless they were running from something even scarier. No matter how well trained a horse is, it’s not jumping through glass just because a humanoid asked them to. Nothing was chasing Arthur and his body language did not suggest any kind of fear to indicate he was running from something even scarier. All the droids were already in the other side of the window as well. It’s simply bizarre and impossible, even in a sci fi snow. Within this very show the Doctor states you can’t hypnotize someone beyond their survival instincts. I believe this applies to horses and a horse’s instincts is to avoid jumping through or into a reinforced barrier.

Next, we are given no explanation as to how this horse jumped through glass unscathed. Glass that was said to be so strong only a truck could break through. Horses are also extremely delicate and many have fatally injured themselves just playing in the paddock. Even for injuries not that extreme, every horse person knows that even small things result in giant vet bills.

Finally, it is once again grossly out of character for the Doctor to take a living animal and make them do something he previously calculated would required a truck.

4. Things are back to normal as if the episode never happened by the Rise of the Cybermen. If the Doctor had really developed feelings for another woman so strong that he would leave Rose for dead, then lost her, would he just be back to being the same old Doctor the very next episode? I doubt it. The Doctor is also a character known for holding on to guilt. Even if Reinette was mechanism to push Rose away, the way he abandoned her would’ve caused enough guilt he wouldn’t just be normal the very next episode. The show carries on as if Reinette never happened because Reinette never happened.

The only reference to that GitF is some clockwork droids in John Smith’s journal. Which could be explained by another encounter with the droids or by the Doctor looking at Rose’s mind to see the nightmare. Which would be an intimate enough moment to imprint on John Smith’s subconscious. The words “a girl in every fireplace” can once again refer to the Doctor seeing Rose’s nightmare or another off screen adventure entirely. There is no reference strong enough to confirm the actual events of GitF ever happened. The show functions exactly the same way without it. Because, it never happened.

5. The events of the show make perfect sense as a nightmare in Rose’s head. Take it from someone with a degree in psychology. Rose has abandonment wounds from Jimmy Stone. She also has abandonment wounds from her father dying when she was too young to understand it. School Reunion, the episode right before GitF triggers her abandonment wounds by making her see the Doctor has previously left companions and did not come back for them. It also makes her wonder if she is special to the Doctor. These doubts combined with her past trauma are a perfect recipe for her to have a bizarre nightmare where she gets abandoned in the most horrific way after the events of School Reunion.

I will leave you all with my fic where this was all a nightmare. Or you can write your own if you prefer. My point is that for those who feel the way I do about this episode, we do not have to accept the events as canon. We do not have to believe the Doctor has ever treated Rose this way except in her worst nightmares.

Update to address Deep Breath:

1. Doctor mentioned seeing clockwork droids before, but we know that the Doctor has many off screen adventures. He could’ve encountered the droids at any other point in his entire life besides GitF.

2. As for that episode stating the SS Madame De Pompadour existed, that still doesn’t confirm anything. There was a real life ship called the USS Queen of France. This was named for Marie Antoinette. Jackie dated a sailor once and Rose had a friend named Keisha whose brother was a sailor. This means Rose could’ve heard one of them discussing historical naval ships. This how she would imagine a ship named after Madame de Pompadour in the first place. She and the people who built the SS Madame de Pompadour and SS Marie Antoinette would’ve simply drawn inspiration from the same place. Also, there’s the fact that someone named a fictional ship Titan many years before Titanic ever existed.

Update 2: Rose was going to get an A level in French if she hadn’t run off with Jimmy. So she could’ve reasonably been familiar with some aspects of French history and able to imagine all of these things in a dream, even if it wasn’t a historically accurate dream, everyone knows weird things happen in dreams.

Getting comforted when they find you having a breakdown in the shower

A/N: I'm once again writing something self-indulgent based off something inspired by real events (I'm fine now, dw) ^^

The water has long gone cold by now, wanting to pay no attention to it, but the foresight of your water bill forcing you to turn it off. You're sobbing, sitting in the bathtub of the bath-shower combo, clutching your knees to your chest. As you're taking another shaky breath, a loud banging on the door fails to startle you.

“Y/N, you in there?! Answer me or I'm breaking down this door!” a deep voice booms from the other side. You don't doubt his threats and the thought that instead of bill for water, you'd be spending money on a new door is not much help for your situation right now and so you answer in a low voice: “I'm here.”

Just wanting to make him leave so you can collect yourself at your own pace without having to snap back into your usual personality, you take deep breaths so you can calm down a little bit and sound normal if he ask something more.

Instead, Satan commands you: “Unlock this fucking door.” His tone is stern, but not as angry, like initially. You don't want to move any more than extremely necessary, so you just respond: “If you turn the bolt under the handle up, it'll unlock.” There are few seconds filled with sounds of scratching at the door handle and Satan's low mumbling, followed by a freezing breeze, indicating that the door is wide open.

Looking to your left, in the dim light of fairy lights, there's a faint silhouette of a short demon, whose horns are sticking up, over the shower curtain. The tiny room and your position closely to the ground make him seem bigger than he really is.

The shower curtain is roughly pulled aside, revealing him fully. His expression is tense, just like when he's grinding his teeth, but he's not doing that currently.

Upon seeing your form, Satan huffs and quickly unzips his overall and sheds it, kicking it aside. Once his shoes have followed suit, Satan situates himself in the bathtub behind you, spreading his legs on each side of you. Two muscly arms wrap around your whole form and pull him more close to him.

The angry demon then proceeds to gently rock the both of you from side to side while whispering reassurances into your ear, making you feel safe for the time being.

“Y/N~? Where are you?” a melodic voice chimes from somewhere in your house and you internally groan. You love Paimon to bits, but please, not right now. Now is the worst moment for that cheery attitude of theirs.

“Are you in hereee?” the cheery demon lightly taps on the wooden door to the bathroom, you're hiding in. 'Maybe if I'm quiet, he'll think I'm not home and just leave' comes to your mind. Well it's worth the shot. Or at least would be, if Paimon didn't know how to unlock every door in your house. The now amplified clacks of their heels on the tile make you more and more exhausted, as if your body only now realised how late in the night it is.

Soon enough, the colorful demon is peering down at you, after having slid the shower curtain aside. Their usual happy expression quickly turns into that adorable pout they so rarely wear. “Y/N~? Are you okaaay?”

It's impossible to lie them straight in the eye. “I'm not.” are the only words you manage to muster out before tears flood your eyes again. “Nooo~, Y/N don't cryyy!” Paimon quickly kicks off his shoes and steps into the bathtub with you, sitting down opposite of you with their legs crossed, completely disregarding the fact that the tub is still wet.

You shake your head, trying to chase the tears away. Paimon's hands gently grab your face and you're forced to look into those beautiful eyes of his as their thumbs wipe away the tears that escaped your eyes.

They slowly pull you closer so they can plant a kiss on your forehead, the bridge of your nose, and finally, the tip of your nose. You can't help but smile a bit. Their cheery energy seems to be gently helping to lift up all the gloom.

“ Y/N~, tell meee... why are you cryyyinggg?” they pout again with their face close to yours, still not fully withdrawn from kissing down your nose.

“I-It's nothing, really...” you don't want to burden them with your temporary moments of feeling like you have no control over your own life. You'd feel selfish for dumping all your worries on someone who seems so carefree.

“Well then maybeee, we could do something more fun~? Like paint our naaails, ooor facemasksss~?” they start trying to find something to help you get your mind off those gloomy thoughts and bring some more happiness in.

You've been crying for a good while now, but all of a sudden the tears seem to be hard to get out. Like someone's watching you. But that's nonsense. Your playlist stopped playing about 15 minutes ago and the place where you live is so quiet at night, you'd hear if anyone broke in or even walked around. With a slight shake of your head you dismissed the thought that it's just the innate urge to perform even while completely alone. Maybe you should just get up now and distract yourself with something before going to sleep.

That was until you lifted your head and noticed a certain little lump looking over at you from the cabinet above your head – Ppyong. He looked worried, but also like he's on some important mission.

“The hell, Ppyong? How long have you been there?” you call out at him, slightly annoyed. So that's why you couldn't cry anymore.

“Just a while. The angel attacks aren't as bad, so Majesty Satan allowed me to visit you tonight, aye!” he seemed to get happier, but then his face fell once again,”And then when I couldn't find you anywhere I saw that your bathroom door was locked, so I figured you'd be there, aye! But you were being too quiet so I slid in to see if you're okay.”

“Aw, Ppyong...” you exclaim, absorbing what the little lump just told you, “but why didn't you say something?”

“His Majesty Satan sometimes gets like this too and if anyone disturbs him, he gets very irritated, aye! So I just stood guard, making sure nothing happens to you while you're in such delicate state, aye!” the little red demon flies down to your level, all worries seemingly gone and instead replaced with courage of a knight.

“Aw, that's so very considerate of you, Ppyong!” you can't help but smile. He's too adorable and he meant well. Ppyong's face also seems to light up as well.

“Ugh, okay, let me get out of here and I might find something for you in the fridge.” you start getting out of the bathtub, knowing fully well that you have a whole unopened box of chocolate truffles, that you're happy you've held off on opening.

You're shivering out of nowhere, despite just before your breakdown having taken a steaming shower and the steam filling up the small room shouldn't have escaped this soon. The only time you feel this type of shiver is when you're showering with one of your favorite demons. Wait, maybe..? But if one of them was here, you'd see some sort of silhouette behind the shower curtain. Unless..? Your eyes widen at the sudden realisation, that there's only one demon you know that has the ability to be unseen.

“It's kinda rude to observe people in the shower without them knowing, you know?” you say with irritation lacing your words.

“I-I'm terribly sorry, miss Y/N. I was tasked to check up on you and found you like this. I wasn't sure what to do. I should've announced myself. Please excuse my mistake and overstep of your boundaries.” a silhouette forms on the other side of shower curtain. You can barely make out that Foras' head is bowed down in honest revernce.

“Oh, okay then.” you accept his apology, not in the mood for empty pleasantries.

“If I may inquire, would you kindly share with me what has gotten you into such state?” you can hear the genuine worry and interest in his voice. He wants to help if he's able to.

“Foras, it's nothing and a lot at the same time. Are you sure you want to know? It's kinda a heavy subject.” you ponder if you really want to share all your worries and anxieties with someone. Talking about them feels like letting them win, afterall. As long as they're contained purely in your mind, they can be pushed to the back and ignored, but by voicing them feels like giving them more power.

“Please share. I'm all ears. A problem shared is problem halved.” you can hear the tall demon shift from standing to kneeling on the floor right next to you, the shower curtain being the only divide between the two of you.

The room is quiet save for the soft sound of water dripping from the faucet in front of you. Until it becomes accompanied by the unmistakeably annoying high-pitched buzzing sound of a fly. For a normal person it would mean that their bathroom isn't as well sealed, but you instantly knew that it's not just any normal fly.

The annoying buzzing finally stops when the insect lands right in the bathtub in front of you after having flown multiple circles above your head, as if announcing itself to you. It doesn't stay there for very long though. You're quick to scare it away with your hand since you're not in the mood for Beelzebub's shenanigans right now. Thinking you're alone again, you sigh and close your eyes, resting your head on your knees.

The comfort of being alone doesn't last for long, though. As soon as you're unable to hear the flight of your insect intruder, a strong presence makes itself known behind your back. You don't need to look around to know that it's The Lord of Flies himself.

A slender, tan finger pokes your cheek, but you ignore it. Normally it would maybe make you smile, but not now. Beelzebub lets out a little curious hum and proceeds to poke your cheek few more times. Still finding you unresponsive to his annoying behavior.

“Aw, you're no fun, Y/N! I take the time out of my day to come see you and this is how you are?” a low voice playfully scolds you over your shoulder. Somehow, even with closed eyes you know he's sporting his significant smirk.

“I'm not fun today, Beel. You might as well go do your work instead being here.” you say while turning your head to the other side - away from him, still resting it on your knees with eyes closed. The way he's still so cheerful makes you start feeling slightly angry.

“Hmm... Nah. Id' much rather spend time with you even if you're not fun. At least it's a good excuse for me.” he chuckles and leans over your other shoulder. You're clearly showing multiple cues that you'd prefer to be alone right now, but he chooses to overlook them.

“Cool. Thanks for your support in these hard time, I guess.” you say with an overly sarcastic tone. Seriously, can this guy take a hint?

“Oh, c'mon, don't be like that! Here -” Beelzebub's two strong arms pick you up like nothing and make you lay on his chest, holding you there so you can't escape, “that's better. Now, tell me all that's making you so cranky today, hm?”

You phone has stopped ringing for the third time now. Each of those times you had no energy to even get up and decline the call. It's really late at night, so you can use the excuse that you're just sleeping.

Suddenly there are some pointed knocks at the bathroom door. They sound so forceful and you know exactly who is on the other side of the door.

“Hey, you've been in there for a long time now. You okay in there?” the tired voice of none other than Gusion sounds off.

“Y-yeah, everything's fine...” you try to sound as okay as possible, but the 'fine' comes out more as a loud whisper. Still, the last thing you want is to add another thing to Gusion to worry about.

There's a short quiet pause, making you think he did leave you alone, but instead a swift draft of chilling air finds your trembling figure followed by a quiet thud of a door being closed. The presence of the smartest demon fills the room.

Soon enough the shower curtain is partially pushed away in front of you. Gusion sits on the exposed part of bathtub's edge and peers down at you with compassion in his very tired eyes.

“So, what is going on?” a simple question prompts you to bite your lip and shake your head to stop the tears filling your eyes.

“Hey, hey... Focus on me, okay? Whatever it is, you're strong enough to fight it. It won't win. Even if it's a bit of struggle, you'll crush it, okay?” a gentle hand pushes a wet strand from your face and travels under your chin to lift it up to meet his soft gaze.

“Gus-... I... Am I unlovable?” more eyes spill from your eyes as you search for an answer in his expression.

Gusion's expression turns to one of surprise and worry: “What? Absolutely not. Don't you see all the people and demons around you who adore you?”

“I mean, yeah, but in the grand scheme of things, it's like I can't have anything nice for too long and most people just eventually leave.” you can't contain your tears anymore and your vision gets so blurry, you can't even identify his features in the dimly lit room as his dark hair and clothes become part of the darkness.

“Oh stop saying dumb shit like that and come here.” Gusion's expression is back to his usual as far as you can tell as he simply reaches out for you in the bath and manoeuvres you into his lap, pulling you into a very tight hug.

You've been sitting in the tub for quite some time and the cold is starting to envelope you when the sound of heavy footsteps in your hallway startles you. Yet, in the state that you're in and slowly getting paralysed by the cold, you wouldn't mind at all if someone actually invaded your house. But it's probably one of your demons, who will see that you're not home and go back to Hell. Hopefully.

The footsteps stop in front of the door to your bathroom and then the door flies open as if it wasn't locked in the first place. That's gonna be fun to replace tommorrow.

Just as you're about to turn to your side and give your intruder a piece of your mind, the shower curtain is yanked away to reveal Beleth with a tense expression on his face. It's quiet and still as he takes a drag of his cigarette, analysing the situation. As the cloud of smoke dissipates in the air, the fallen angle drops his blazer on the ground. In a second a towel is placed around your shoulders and you're being carried to your bedroom.

“Wh-what are you doing?” you squeak as you're being set, now dried off, on your bed. The way he handles you feels like you weigh next to nothing.

“But-” you're interrupted from your protest by a light slap on your bare ass, “No complainin'.” Blinking away the surprise makes the next few seconds seem like a series of photos telling a story of Beleth picking you back up and laying in your bed, setting you cuddled up next to him.

“So... How 'bout ya tell me 'bout what's worryin' ya pretty lil head?” he lowly purrs when the blanket is pulled over the two of you as he's pulling out another cigarette and lighting it.

“Y/N, is everything okay in there?” a gentle voice calls onto you from behind the locked doors.

You don't answer. You can't answer and even if you tried to assure Morax that you're okay, your voice would betray you. It would surely sound tired and strained from all those silent screams you've let out.

The door opens despite being locked. At least Morax is considerate enough to use magic and not tear through like others would. The sound of soft steps and rustling fabric indicate that the bandaged demon walked in and knelt next to the bathtub. The shower curtain complains a bit as he tries to move the plastic away, but not tugging enough to make the rings fully slide away.

A red-haired bandaged head peeks in to fill in the opening. A kind, pink eye scans over your whole form, looking for any sign of harm that would've caused your silence. You seem to be in good shape. At least physically, that is. Your glassy, puffy eyes tell a different story about your mental state, however. At this moment Morax wishes that Buer - his mental wellness colleague was with him.

“Y/N.” he decides to softly say your name to try and get your attention. It's rare for him to be worried for others, unlike others worrying for him.

Just now you realise, that you're shivering, but thanks to the shower curtain not being fully pulled away, there's still some heat trapped in the shower. You finally look at Morax with your eyes still watery and ready to cry more.

“Morax, I-” your sentence is interrupted by the very same demon reaching above you and wrapping a towel around you like a blanket. As skinny as the healing demon looks, he's able to get up and lift you out of the bathtub while pushing the curtain fully way to sit you on the edge of the tub, kneeling down in front of you again. His hand comes up to your face to move away any wet strands of your hair from your face that have fallen there and stroke your cheek with his thumb.

Meeting your gaze, he slowly gets up and sits next to you as one of his hands comes around your side to pull you into his chest in an embrace.

“The world needs more people like you,” you say softly, cupping the Doctor’s jaw. Once again he’s stopped an Earthly event from going haywire and corrupting the timeline of the future. And once again, he’s not asked for anything in return. 

“Mm,” he hums back in return, clearly not really agreeing with you. “You know me. Do it or die trying!” He gives you a quick wink. You know he’s doing it to make you laugh, to keep you from prying at his feelings and making him actually process his emotions. He hadn’t been quite the same since Donna. 

And really, who could blame him? You’d barely been able to think about it either without getting teary eyed. And he’d known her longer than you had. Had bonded with her. The Doctor always made the most meaningful and deep connections with everyone he met. It was sweet really, when it wasn’t heartbreaking.

“And, I mean- really- life wouldn’t be worth it without it’s fair share of adventure, ey?” The Doctor continued, noting the way you were looking at him. Probably with a mix of concern and sadness. “Us and the TARDIS? Travelling time and space… wouldn’t have it any other way.”

You hum. You wouldn’t either. There was absolutely no way you could go back to life without him. Without your wacky adventures and the danger that inevitably followed. But it wasn’t all danger. It was beauty too. Between foiling evil alien plans there were supernovas, worlds of the deepest blues, grasses made from silk on other planets, intergalatic markets and everything in between. Too many things to count or list.

The Doctor had shown you things you’d never even be able to conceive of, never mind dream of. And you loved him for it. He was… something else. You’d say other-worldly, but that was kind of stating the obvious, wasn’t it? 

You lean your head onto his shoulder, taking a deep breath. The Doctor tutted comfortingly, and raised his hand to pat comfortingly at your hair. 

“One of these days, Doctor,” you sigh happily. “One of these days you might actually realise how special you are.” 

You doubted it. He was too preoccupied with everyone else to worry about himself. 

“Ohh, I don’t know about that,” he replies, giving you a kiss to the head. “Till that way-off day comes, maybe you’ll just have to remind me.”

concept: I was scrolling through some of your previous posts for a second time today (still all very cool and awesome btw) and the one about the reader saying swear words without knowing what they are kinda stuck with me.

So lets reverse it! You, the creator, fall into teyvat and CAN speak the common language there, while also still remembering your own native language. and so your native tongue becomes super holy to them (eg. 'omg, the creator is speaking in their holy tongue, lets all listen and nod')

Unfortunately, this has its drawbacks, especially because the majority of the times you speak in your native tongue you are cussing out everyone.

3 potential scenarios have stemmed from my brain because of this.

You getting annoyed at your worshippers and yelling at them, then afterwards they all thank you for blessing them

Swearing so often that the people around you start to pick up on the words and now all of your worshippers are parroting swear words at really important events, while you try and keep a straight face

Accidently teaching one of the kids swear words and then klee starts saying 'fuck' all the time and the adults are all like 'thank you for teaching klee one of your divine words, it truly is a blessing. what does it mean though?' and you're just sitting there like 😅

After all, you didn't use it often, no one here in Teyvat even vaguely recognized it (not even a vague similarity from one of the other countries even)

It wasn't like,, shocking to the majority of Mondstadt's residents that you had a different native lang. (nor any of the other countries once they realized you were here, and had a diff native lang.)

I mean, you were the Creator,

why wouldn't there be some ancient powerful holy lang. that only you (or along with some lucky priest/vessel/follower) could understand?

However, it did become a problem when you, as the human experience dictates, got irritated 

You see, Teyvat isn’t an easy world to get used to, from the elemental reactions, the huge amount of hostile/active flora and fauna, there was a lot of room (even as favored as you were as the Creator) for accidents

You had already had a few mishaps, asking the waiter to bring you some salt bc ur table didnt have any on accident, bumping into the allogenes who wanted to walk around with you that day when they stopped abruptly

But now you can confidently say you can pinpoint the inciting incident in hindsight.

You had been traversing Liyue, and of course, it’s very rocky, even the well beaten paths outside Liyue Harbor were littered with pebbles and stones

So bc theyre respectful sweethearts, Shenhe, Xiao, Zhongli, Ganyu and the rest of the Adepti wnated to have a calm brunch at Cloud Retainer’s Abode w/ u <3

On the way up, bc u insisted normal walking was fine- no Xiao you want to see the sights teleportation isn’t necessary right now- nO Shenhe, really, the walk will be good for you, you don’t need to be carried-

Zhongli. 

You are supposed to be a mortal these days, not a 60 meter/feet long dragon- 

WHAM (u were so busy telling them to quit it that u werent watching ur path, aint none of their thousands of years old reflexes good enough to save u from being a clumsy fuck)

and your on ur ass.

“Fuck, ow,” immediately Shenhe has swept you up, Ganyu is rambling nervously, Xiao jumped but hasn’t said anything, but you can feel his worry from how tense he is, Zhongli’s hands are hovering, unsure if he should touch, and Shenhe- Shenhe- you can’t breathe-

Fuckers wanted to make sure they showed you utmost respect, so they both remembered every. single. word. of your language you have ever said around them.

Between Zhongli’s memory and elegant appearance, and Ningguang’s influence, your cuss words spread overnight

Families are now sitting around their dinner and thanking you for Teyvat’s bounty of food, “Thank you Creator for our meal, fuck guys stop I’m fine.” the kids and everything 💀

list of expectations for the upcoming dev conference / livestream bc i can't sleep:

- anniversary news is almost guaranteed. batter will likely be getting one of the s-tiers, but it's not confirmed if it'll be in the shop or the essence. this may also be when undead gets his new skin, but i'm much less confident on that. four skins will be revealed: the s- and a-tiers from the essence, and the s-tier that'll be in the shop. the corresponding event will also be teased / discussed.

- once / backdrift and ivory tower skin news. definitely one once skin and at least one ivory tower skin (possibly two). this could be when we get the hunter ivory tower skin that was announced forever ago.

- no new character news. sorry, but they already have two characters waiting to be released (as i believe faro lady will already be available in-game by the date the livestream is planned for), and adding a third while giving nothing on the two already revealed would just overhype fans. if they do, for some reason, reveal a new character, it will likely be the acrobat identity switch they've been teasing lately.

- speaking of new characters, i highly doubt goatman's essence will be revealed; it's too early in the season to reveal the third essence. again, any essence news will likely be tied to the anniversary. i'd be happy to be proven wrong, though.

- we'll probably be getting news on collabs. my safest bet is news on the collaboration with the arthur conan doyle estate, which will reveal the skins (and other in-game content) we'll be getting; novelist is almost definitely getting a skin. it feels a bit early to reveal news on the return of the persona 5 collab, but it's possible. other new collabs could be revealed too.

- no logic path, coa, deduction star, nymph awards, or rank accessory news. it's too early in the season for lp and accessory news, and FAR too early in the year for ds, nymph, and coa news. if you want an estimation on those last three: october at the earliest for ds news, november for nymph, and december for coa. i can't give an estimate on lp or accessories as those vary depending on when the current season ends.

- new maps, gamemodes, story updates, etc. will at least be touched on. my best guess is a possible release date for mercenary's diaries and an update on the murder mystery gamemode that was revealed during coa7.

- a new truth & inference offline package is possible but i wouldn't hold my breath considering that we got wu chang's relatively recently.

- possible news on the idv-es skins, either an in-game showcase or a reveal of their hunter. i'm hoping they clear up the confusion around the designs because a lot of us are still a little unsure about them, especially naib's.

- news on the "mysterious event" announced on the june calendar, if it isn't covered by any of the above points.

and that's about it!! this is mostly based on my own experience waking up far too early to catch these streams (haven't missed a single one since i learned about 'em lmao) and what i've come to expect from them. i may be completely off the mark here but it's what i know of these streams. i may end up liveblogging these announcements; i'll make a sideblog for it and if you want to hear about the news right after it's revealed, feel free to follow me there!! former otw board candidate's attempted take-down of a volunteer of color is cruel. and racist!

so if you’ve been following along with the discussions about racism in the organization for transformative works (otw) and everything that’s gone on just this week, you may have seen that @yishaqeni (he/they) - a former otw board candidate who withdrew from the election in late june (not audrey r, the republican) - wrote a post two days ago saying that the actions of dhobikikutti (not sure of pronouns), a volunteer of color who has been calling out racism in the otw, are a large part of what led yishaqeni to withdraw from the election and the organization. you can read yishaqeni’s full post here.

i'm going to go ahead and try to address yishaqeni’s accusations towards kutti here as i understand them. (i'm choosing not to respond to yishaqeni’s follow-up post on this topic because kutti has said that yishaqeni has confused kutti with another volunteer of color in at least one of his accusations in that second post, and i do not know which accusation that is, so i am not engaging with that post for now.)

firstly, some context on my perspective: i am not an otw volunteer, nor do i have any other inside perspective on otw as an organization. i do not personally know dhobikikutti, yishaqeni, alex tischer, azarias, nor any of the other board members or committee chairs who have been in leadership between 2020 and now. all of my understanding of these situations comes from what has been shared publicly by people who do have inside knowledge. 

as an outsider, i have read and reread all of the public posts that kutti has made multiple times. i’ve also read all of the discussions documented by synonymous, including stuff that happened on fail_fandomanon (ffa). i obviously may be missing stuff that happened internally, but going off of what i’ve seen all of these folks say, including yishaqeni, here are my reactions to yishaqeni’s accusations.

yishaqeni's accusation #1: “dhobi ki kutti herself had began posting internal information to her personal dreamwidth and sending this information to other DW users without considering if the people she was posting about were identifiable” and “dhobi ki kutti has made it clear that she does not care about the privacy of other volunteers so long as she can use statements to discuss structural racism in the org”

firstly, let’s be clear: until kutti received their first warning for constructive corrective action procedure (ccap) from the otw tag wrangling chairs and board, what kutti posted publicly were the emails and comments that kutti themselves sent to otw leadership. kutti also notes that the only quotes kutti includes are from official statements made by the board and chairs to all volunteers, nothing from private conversations:

I reject a cultist confidentiality policy that denies volunteers any opportunity to provide citations to back up claims of abusive organisational practises. The only quotes I have publicly posted are from official statements made by the Board and Chairs to all volunteers, and I shared them in response to a post where the official organisation statement was denying an accusation of insufficiently protecting its volunteer base. As a member of said volunteer base, I have the right to provide proof of my own experience. [x]

i'll go even further and say that except for one circumstance that i'll talk about below, kutti’s comments do not include information specific enough to people or events that could identify them or violate people’s privacy. perhaps if you are an otw volunteer who saw these conversations go on internally, they seem like they give identifiable information, but as someone from the outside, they do not.

the one exception is the question that kutti asked in the july 3 board meeting about documented racism by board member alex tischer (pronouns listed as "IDGAF"). i attended that board meeting, and at the time i had already seen discussion of alex on fail_fandomanon, where alex’s racist actions have been documented. this matters because alex has held multiple leadership positions at otw: alex was a board member from 2016-2018 and again from 2020-2023 until their resignation three days ago on july 27, 2023; and as far as we know, alex is still the chair of the webs committee [here's an archived link on july 30, 2023 in case that changes soon].

i'll emphasize kutti’s point here about volunteers needing to be able to provide citations of abusive organizational practices. when people like alex with this level of power have been allowed to get away with blatant racism and anti-blackness over years within the organization, there is often no other recourse than the name them publicly to decry their actions – especially when other information about those people has already been leaked on ffa! targeting kutti for this is ridiculous and racist, especially when yishaqeni themselves admits that volunteers of color who were asking for answers were being stonewalled by the board and leadership.

after kutti received the ccap email, kutti did also post that publicly, because the ccap email itself is such a blatantly racist threat on otw leadership’s part that it, in my opinion, absolutely needed to be shared, for the same reasons as above.

yishaqeni's accusation #2: “dhobi ki kutti began posting her questions a few weeks before i left. these were questions we were already asking - progress on the 2020 pledge, the treatment of azarias, PAC, POCvols and cvols, etc. however, this also included posts that were deliberately inflammatory, where she would refer to actions she disagreed with with provocative descriptors such as  'disgusting'…” 

i, personally, think it’s perfectly legitimate to talk about any of otw’s horrible actions listed here as “disgusting”, including to talk about racism, but kutti has revealed that that’s not actually where kutti even used this term. kutti used it to talk about the way former otw volunteer azarias was treated in the CSEM work azarias had to do:

On a personal level - finding out what you took the responsibility to ask azarias to do, that the board and the Legal advisors of the board told her it was her job to not delete the content that a CSEM distributing user had created, but that she was supposed to comb through it all to only remove the bits that were illegal - that disgusts me. The fact that you all think this is an acceptable thing to ask of anyone disgusts me. What is it going to take to shake you out of your inaction here? [x]

still think it’s provocative to use the word “disgusts” in that context? yishaqeni, you should be ashamed of how you’ve characterized this.

yishaqeni's accusation #3: “[kutti] was deliberately antagonizing and intimidating to others in the internal chat, particularly when she felt other vols weren't engaging with what she was posting”

having been in many, many situations where calling out racism is met by silence, i can’t tell you how frustrating and demoralizing it is to see people continue to engage with “easier” topics in other channels but deliberately choose not to respond about racism, especially when you know that having more allies in the room could potentially help demand answers from leadership. it’s horrible to feel like you’re shouting in to the void about a topic as important as racism and harassment.

so if you’re going to give the volunteers who didn’t respond grace and understanding for not knowing what to say, you should also give that grace and understanding to kutti for being frustrated at having to tackle these topics alone. racism and mistreatment of volunteers are the things that should cause discomfort, not the person calling them out.

yishaqeni's accusation #4: “dhobi ki kutti mocked those who were stressed and uncomfortable by how she was posting in her ccap responsa”

let's take a look at what kutti actually said in that ccap response:

Because, as the CCAP makes a point to reiterate, this is cumulative action being taken for everything I have said over the past month. That my comments have made the atmosphere ‘tense’ and ‘unpleasant’. That I have made multiple volunteers feel ‘stressed,’‘disconcerted and unsafe’, to the extent that I have affected their mental well-being. I am not ‘considerate and respectful’ enough to be welcome as a volunteer. I do not plan to invest the energy in theorising this for you, because abusers who file complaints to silence criticism know fully well what patterns of hierarchy and power they are wielding. And here, I will make it clear that I hold the chairs and Board responsible for this CCAP, not any individual volunteers who chose to complain against me. A healthy organisation would have resources to support volunteers feeling threatened by my challenges of the structural whiteness in this organisation without using their discomfort to browbeat me. [x, emphasis mine]

i've bolded the last part of kutti’s statement because kutti makes it clear that this is an organizational failure. kutti explicitly says that kutti does not blame the individuals who felt threatened or uncomfortable, even those who reported kutti for this, which is far more generous than i would be in that circumstance. so how exactly is that “mocking” people who were stressed and uncomfortable? ridiculous.

now i'm going to make some accusations of my own, based on what i've seen here:

deepa’s accusation #1: yishaqeni choosing to focus on kutti in this post is both targeted and racist.

yishaqeni names that there are many reasons he decided to leave the otw and withdraw as a board candidate, including “the constant leaking of internal discussions and comments to FFA and DW, the lack of response from board on the ongoing trashfire, the inability of the board to address structural racism”, as well as kutti’s alleged behavior. yishaqeni then adds that they choose to focus on kutti’s behavior because they think racism in the org has been “analysed to death” already.

that's kind of a wild statement to make, because even if these issues have been analyzed and discussed, those critiques of otw’s dysfunction have clearly not gained enough traction or power for change to have been made within the organization yet. if that is truly a concern of yishaqeni’s, and one so powerful that it led them to leave the org, surely they can still do work to talk about that? since ultimately that is much more impactful than the actions of a single volunteer?

then there’s the ffa leaks. from what i've seen, those are more likely to have been “privacy violations” than anything that kutti has posted, because they often quote directly from otw chats, and they cover topic even more wide-ranging than the racism that kutti has posted about. but kutti is still the person targeted in this post.

i get that with everything going on right now, it can feel unsafe to be an otw volunteer, and to feel like you can’t speak freely in otw channels. but to ascribe that lack of safety to kutti is ridiculous. and given that the main thing kutti’s been talking about publicly is racism, it is racist to target kutti this way.

yishaqeni could have written a post about how organizational culture at otw – including a lack of transparency and action from otw leadership – have contributed to an atmosphere so toxic that it has both led people to feel like they need to leak stuff (and again, not just stuff related to racism), and that volunteers have been made to feel unsafe because of some of those leaks. that’s a valid critique that covers both sides of why this is all really fucked up. 

but yishaqeni chose instead to focus disproportionately on the actions of a single volunteer of color calling out racism, whose “leaks” did not include identifiable information about individuals except for what had been shared with all board and volunteers. wild.

deepa’s accusation #2: yishaqeni is engaging in tone policing, which is also – surprise! – racist.

firstly, let’s look at the language yishaqeni uses to describe how kutti talks about racism: “intentionally inflammatory”, “provocative”, “antagonizing”, “intimidating”, “aggressive[e]”, “incendiary”, and “outside the bounds of normal discourse”. 

i think i just got bingo on a tone policing bingo card. “aggressive” and “intimidating”, in particular, are words that are frequently used to demonize people of color for their justifiable anger about racism, and to make them out to be threats. (i'll be clear too here that this kind of language is not only racist but anti-black, and that black people face disproportionate levels of tone policing, but non-black people of color can still be targeted with this rhetoric.) 

this is all especially ridiculous because yishaqeni acknowledges that no one who was making these critiques was gaining any traction from otw leadership! and yet, yishaqeni also claims that “this could've been campaigned on without the leaking of internal discussions and making vols feel unsafe and stressed”. how, exactly? kutti has been talking about racism within the otw, including going through the “proper channels”, since 2020. people outside of the organization have been talking about this publicly for even longer. how long do those efforts have to fail for people to understand that those “proper channels” are not getting us there?

people of color are allowed to be angry about racism. in fact, everyone should be angry about racism! and the fact is that there is simply no way to talk about racism that will be “acceptable”, because white supremacist culture puts forward that racism itself is what’s acceptable. so saying “kutti should have talked about this differently” is super fucked up. and racist.

deepa’s accusation #3: in their second post, yishaqeni accuses kutti of actions that were done by another volunteer of color. which is racist.

pretty self-explanatory tbh.

deepa's accusation #4: yishaqeni implies that kutti does not understand the risks for volunteers of being subjected to violence for their work in the otw, while not acknowledging that kutti is at high risk for that kind of violence.

for context, kutti is a volunteer from india, which kutti has said publicly.

to quote yishaqeni in full about this topic: 

“the privacy policy is in place to protect vols and she was being incredibly cavalier with what and how she was posting. it’s to protect vols like me who live in countries with a living memory of sectarian and homophobic violence, it’s to protect cvols who live in a country where they can be prosecuted for accessing certain OTW projects, it’s to protect people who could be at risk of harm for engaging with what is widely perceived as queer explicit content.” [x]

as a queer indian-american, i find this extremely condescending and belittling. india has more than a memory of sectarian and homophobic violence; it is a daily reality for many, many marginalized communities there. india's central government, and many of its states, are run by hindu supremacist political parties that actively promote violence towards minorities, including lgbtqia+ folks, women, muslims, dalits and other caste-oppressed communities, adivasis and indigenous communities, disabled people, black people, kashmiris, bengalis, sikhs, other ethnic and religious minorities, and more. india only de-criminalized homosexuality five years ago. 

then there’s also the fact that simply talking about racism in fandom online as a person of color opens you up to harassment, threats, and potentially more, regardless of where you live! 

since i do not know kutti personally, i do not know what kutti specifically has had to face, and i very much hope kutti has been spared from all of what i've talked about above. but there’s absolutely no guarantee of that. and lecturing kutti – who, again, has not violated anyone’s privacy! – of this while not understanding kutti’s own risk as an otw volunteer is also ridiculous.

deepa’s accusation #5: yishaqeni does not himself seem to do much work publicly to speak up about racism in the otw.

as i mentioned above, yishaqeni's post barely pays lip service to the larger issues of racism in the organization. so i looked to see if yishaqeni has been speaking out more broadly to advance anti-racism on his public platforms.

first, i looked at yishaqeni's otw candidate bio and platform from before they withdrew from the race. it does not include any mention of race or racism. so then i scrolled through yishaqeni’s tumblr posts in the past week, and also went ahead and searched his blog for as many relevant terms relevant to fandom racism as i could think of, including "racism", "race", “antiracism" and "anti racism”, “anti-blackness” and “antiblackness”, “sinophobia”, “otw” and "organization for transformative works", “ao3”, “cvols”, and “weibo”.

apart from the posts about kutti, the only posts related to fandom racism are a few different posts where yishaqeni names the sinophobia that 2022 otw board candidate tiffany g faced. which i absolutely agree with, but is not at all related to the issues of otw’s internal racism and org culture that has been raised in the past few months, which yishaqeni blithely says has already been “analysed to death” - despite yishaqeni not having used the public platform where he's accusing kutti to uplift any of that analysis or critique.

how can you say that you “i stand 100% in solidarity with OTW volunteers, particularly the PAC team, cvols and POC vols who have quite frankly been done dirty by the board” when kutti is one of those people, and when you don’t actually do the hard work (at least publicly) to uplift them and stand by them on the shit that has come out this year? why is one of your few posts on the topic of racism at all your screed against a poc who is combating racism?

to be clear, yishaqeni’s targeting of kutti would be unconscionable even if they had uplifted other people talking about racism, for all the reasons i named in my first four points. but in this context it is even worse.

deepa's accusation #6: by targeting kutti in this post, yishaqeni is harming not only kutti, but also the larger movement to hold otw accountable for racism.

anyone who has actually taken the time to understand issues of racism in fandom should be aware that this kind of unfounded, targeted attack on a fan of color calling out racism won't only impact that fan, but also the larger fight against racism. in fact, targeting individuals like this is a very successful tactic to stymie anti-racism.

i don't know if yishaqeni's attack of kutti is intended to shut kutti up on racism. but even if unintentional, it is clear that yishaqeni either doesn’t understand or doesn’t care about how his words will in fact be used to support the existing culture of whiteness, racism, and organizational abuse at the otw. 

i just can’t get over how irresponsible and cruel it is to target kutti this way, to tone police them, to take the their statements out of context, and to undermine their work fighting racism within the organization. kutti was already under threat before yishaqeni’s post, both from the ccap itself and from their position calling out racism in a hostile organization, but yishaqeni has undoubtedly made it worse.

and this was a choice. a racist choice. yishaqeni did not have to say anything at all. or they could have made the kind of post that i mentioned earlier, once that spent most of its time decrying the culture at otw that led to things being this way rather than singling out a person of color trying to whisteblow. 

even though yishaqeni has quit the otw, others will undoubtedly use his accusations to undercut those who are fighting racism in the organization, whether inside or out. this is just one of myriad ways that racism is allowed to thrive in the otw. and, to use one of the words that yishaqeni finds so disagreeable, i think it’s absolutely disgusting.

if this isn't enough to convince you, need I remind you that the characters of Arthurian Legend very much exist in the whoniverse

the Doctor's involvement in King Arthur's life is incredibly convoluted and contradictory, even within DW canon. But many stories involve the Doctor intervening to ensure that things go according to Arthurian Legend and earth's history remains consistent

for instance, there is a plot in Classic Who where Arthur's body is placed in a spaceship at the bottom of the lake, in an effort to follow the legend that he is "in eternal sleep until England's greatest need", as Ace quotes. The Doctor says that Merlin must have been involved and yet the spaceship is activated by the Doctor's voice, which is "exactly the kind of thing (the Doctor) would do". Leading Ace to ask:

clearly, some of Merlin's actions are fixed points in time and the Doctor must confirm that those things come to pass at some stage in his future

so, when does the Doctor go back to intervene with Arthur's burial and various other events? is it during the Seventh Doctor's run? One story suggests that it was the Eighth Doctor

but I would argue it was the regeneration after that. The version of the Doctor who attempted to make peace during genocide against his race and was betrayed and defeated. The last of his kind, desperate and ruthless

the version of the Doctor that sounds eerily similar to Kilgharrah (and also a bit like John Hurt)

so! as i said in another ask, this is a fic following sirius (and regulus, later) starting hogwarts as walburga’s obedient heir, only to end up in gryffindor and learning that life isnt quite the way he’d been taught. his revelations and his sorting end up causing tension at home in the yule holidays, and a series of events end up with regulus in gryffindor too. im sure we can all imagine how that one goes. i posted a snippet in the other ask here

7. french epi fic

HA okay i love your guess, but— well, actually, youre closer to the truth than you might’ve thought. sort of.

regulus has just escaped his parents’ clutches and moves across from france to the one place he hoped he might be welcome: sirius’ home in england. its set in yorkshire, because thats where i grew up before i had to move away, and i miss it :( regulus’ english is poor as it is, but meeting sirius’ ridiculously attractive housemate, james potter, muddles his brain enough where the few basic greetings he knew were gone

james has epilepsy (thats where the ‘epi’ in the title comes from), remus gets them all free donuts, and sirius refuses to flirt on behalf of either james or regulus with the other. its chaos, its fun, and im enjoying it so far despite only being a few thousand words in. here’s a snippet:

Regulus slowly set his eyes back on the house. “It’s so big.”

Seeming to finally catch up on Regulus’ surprise, Sirius explained, “Effie and Monty helped us get on our feet, but with what Alphard left…”

”Mon dieu,” he breathed. But this time, it wasn’t at the house. It was at the man stepping out of it.

Stood at the front door, one hand shielding his eyes from the sun that had emerged from behind the rain clouds, was the most beautiful man Regulus had ever laid his gaze upon. His dark brown hair was tussled in a mess of curls on his head, but almost like it was purposefully messy rather than just uncontrollable. Round golden glasses sat upon his bronze skin, framing his chocolatey eyes perfectly, and a wide grin pulled at his mouth and revealed a little dimple on his left cheek.

When Regulus was eventually able to tear his eyes from the man’s face, his breath caught again at the sight of the rest of him. He clearly worked out, if the muscles making his t-shit stretch were anything to go by, but he wasn’t tall — perhaps only a couple of inches larger than Regulus himself, and he reached only a measly 5’7. Something shining in the sun caught Regulus’ eye, and he saw a thin metal bracelet on one of the man’s wrists.

”Hey, James!” Sirius called, climbing out of the car and snapping Regulus out of his trance. He’d made it to the boot to pull Regulus’ suitcase out before Regulus had even managed to open the passenger door.

”Padfoot!” James called with just as much enthusiasm — that was, far too much considering they lived together and had presumably seen each other just a few hours ago before Sirius had left to pick Regulus up. “And mini Pads!” he added, spotting Regulus finally getting out of the car.

Regulus shot him a swift glare for that nickname. He may be cute, but looks could only get him so far.

8. the warmth of your arms rivals the sun (its burning out)

this is another ive covered in another ask but i love it so im still gonna talk about it. youre exactly right, by the way — it is a hmt sequel! i guess the naming conventions were similar enough ahaha. its very james-centric with background storylines, and focuses on much heavier themes than those in hmt. i wont go into what they are, but anyone who was around during chapter… four? five? i dont remember, but it was early on. i added some tags, then took them away once i decided id split it into two parts. if anyone remembers those tags, that’s what twoya will cover :))

14. sirius is actually helpful for once wtf

this is planned to be a shorter fic, but still multi chapter. its pretty much just sirius shipping jegulus and doing everything he can to get his two favourite people together :) not written yet, but ive got a fair bit planned so far

its the snooker world championships. regulus black’s first, but james potter’s third. sirius black — former world champion — is the estranged brother of the newbie regulus black, and the mentor and best friend of james potter, who was second place two years ago, but couldnt compete last year due to an unrelated injury, though healed up now. james, of course, is head over heels for regulus. regulus, of course, pretends hes not pining madly for the boy who stole his brother. sirius, of course, pretends hes not offended or hurt that regulus wont even try to fix their relationship. he also just happens to be stealing glances at remus lupin, who came fourth last year and seemed rather close to regulus. theyre all hopeless, and determined to win.

Ok I’ll talk abt the characters in the video bc I have tooooo many and I assume those were the ones u were referring to. Also this is going to be a long fucking post and might not be entirely connected and stuff, but bear with me. I love talking about my ocs and I go a little insane. If you have any clarification questions I’m HAPPY to answer them :)

They all have slightly connected stories, but only to a very little degree. They’re all somehow connected to/affected by the blue haired woman in the beginning. So they r, in order of appearance, Nixie, Rubix, Cinnamon, Revery, Kevin, and Epona.

I’ve talked abt Rubix before, not so much the others, but they’re all a part of a species that suffered a serious collective trauma (extinction event that wiped most of them out)

Rubix was too young to remember it, but got wildly traumatized in different ways dw.

Living on their world before the Fall, were shifters who the travelers had long standing (slightly one sided) beef with, so most travelers grew up hating shifters, including Nixie. Her hatred was far amplified by the deaths of her oldest and youngest brothers, and she was falsely led to believe it was the fault of shifters.

Cinnamon was her best ever friend, Kevin was Cinnamon’s bf, and Revery, stick with me on this one, was Kevin’s best friend’s younger sibling (Epona and Rubix come into play later) when the Fall happened, they all got separated and believed the others died. This far quicker fueled Nixie’s hatred and set in motion her mass revenge plan, which she decided she would not let anyone stop her from her true purpose (kill all shifters ever). Nixie did not stop short of seriously harming and even killing other travelers for their abilities or their silence. Epona was one of the lucky few who survived, but they have serious memory loss due to it.

Rubix, as stated before, was very young when the Fall happened so she doesn’t remember it. She grew up in various different situations, and Nixie was the first person like her that she’d ever met. Rubix was extremely excited to know Nixie until they realized that Nixie was manipulating them into harming people who didn’t deserve it, and also got beat to shit. Not to the extent Epona did, but you know. :)

Revery, finally not in denial about the Fall and (possible) death of not only his entire family, it entire species, settled temporarily in a town that already had various shifters living there. (She had to face and unpack her own biases towards shifters). But then NIXIE SHOWS UP!! And she’s super excited bc Nixie was in her older sister’s friend group (older sister character is not my oc, otherwise she would’ve been in the video) and she’s like ‘omgggggg someone I know!! Cinnamon was Nixie’s best friend growing up, and helped her through both of her brother’s deaths, as well as her parents’ divorce following their loss. Cinnamon had a vague idea of Nixie’s shifter hatred, but didn’t really care bc once again. They were ALL raised to hate shifters, so it wasn’t like. Surprising. What WAS surprising though, was when Cinnamon and Nixie FINALLY found each other after the Fall and Nixie was killing other TRAVELERS if they stood in her way (not just travelers, anyone really, but Cinnamon was most put off by her murdering their own people)

Kevin…..wasn’t really affected by Nixie. Same with Cinnamon, he was put off by her willingness to kill survivors, as well as being Nixie’s best friend’s boyfriend, so yk. But he has a fun thing happening, when he survived, it was with a group of other ppl including his best friend, Revery’s older sister Celeste (@/helpimcoveredinbees character). Celeste kinda went insane and randomly disappeared, so with the Fall, the belief his long term girlfriend is dead, and the sudden leaving of his best friend, Kevin kind of lost it and literally became delusional. He also left and uh. Became a space cowboy. Until Celeste and Cinnamon both reappeared, and he snapped out of his psychosis and was like. ‘Oh god. I’ve made a mistake (became a cowboy)’

So uh. Yeah. That’s Nixie and the ppl she seriously traumatized.
