mutual aid request: hazem & family

hazem, an economics student whose home and university were destroyed by israeli, also suffered a critical spinal injury when a neighboring house was bombed and he was hit with shrapnel. his mobility is now limited and he needs medical care that is not available in gaza. he is also trying to support his family in evacuating.

keep avoiding this bc i am just so TIRED of it. i don’t want to ask, i just want to be stable. but we only have one full time job supporting the household; my wife is still subsisting on freelance work, and in the meantime any slightly elevated need dips into rent savings.

we had to pay a deductible to replace my wife’s phone which she needs for work and safety, and our (borrowed) car needs some basic repairs before it becomes unrepairable. doing so means we won’t have enough money for rent, or we won’t have anything left for groceries or other necessities like bills and cat food. it’s short notice but i’m hoping we can get some help.

looking to raise $400 minimum by 4/5. ANYTHING helps. could you start by sharing this?

HA HA SO i really fucking hoped i wouldn’t have to do this but the day that i got my job, my partner was unjustly fired from her job. so now instead having two incomes, we’re left with not enough, and get slightly more behind every month trying to play catch up. im so sorry, but we’re asking for your help again.

my partner doesn’t drive and it is taking literally every available spoon to work full time again so we just don’t have the capacity to do second jobs (i’ve barely had time to use tumblr 😭). if you can help us from going into the red, we should be able to keep up with everything going forward, even with only one income.

rambling again abt sensationalization of cults because this comes up whenever i discuss the fact that I was raised in one, but... like many other forms of abuse, i think there ends up being a popularly conveyed idea of an "outside world" where there's going to be unambiguous freedom. and don't get me wrong, being outside a cult or any other abusive environment is way better than being inside one, but you get outside and if you have eyes you notice the ways that society is abusive and coercive. you notice the ways your personhood gets curtailed by things by school & work & government. the idea of the cult being a sensational, unique outlier is at best a comforting lie told by people who don't want to notice parallels, and at worst, I can't help but see it as an intentional scapegoating of cults and of abusers to distance broader society from being implicated in having caused similar harm. don't fall for it. a cult is an intensifier of patterns that already exist. abuse is an intensifier of patterns that already exist. it is absolutely not unique lol!

visibility of an oppressed group is not inherently a “privilege.” visibility can mean hypersexualization, objectification, commodification, stereotyping, abuse, violence. a group being more “visible” does not mean that it has an advantage or any kind of oppressive power whatsoever over a less visible or “invisible” group. using statistics of representation in media as evidence of relative privilege and disprivilege within marginalized groups is pointless and reductive.

majed (@majedgerbawi) and majed's family of five fled gaza after october 7th and have made it to egypt, but the economic situation there is dire, so they need to crowdfund for basic necessities. rents have increased fivefold, making it almost impossible for them to find stable housing.

mohammed (@mohammedwael-gaza00) is 21 years old, and graduated from the university college of applied sciences in gaza with a degree in web design and development in july 2023. only a few months later, his new job, and his university were all shattered by israeli violence. his family - including his parents and his siblings - have been divided, with some in northern gaza and some in the south. they need funds to reunite and rebuilding their lives.

mahmoud (@supportgaza), a phd student, was evacuated from gaza by his university in ireland after enduring five months of horrors. but his family of 8 has remained in gaza, suffering under bombing, starvation, and disease. he is trying to reunite his family and bring them to safety in ireland, where the irish refugee council has assured him that they can come as long as they raise the funds to evacuate.
