DIY: Summer Citrus Sugar Scrub
Tumblr media
Rejuvenate and revive your skin with this easy citrus sugar scrub recipe. With only 3 ingredients you probably already have on hand, you’ll be ready to whip up this gentle exfoliating body scrub in no time!
Sugar Scrub, or body polish is a luxurious way to refresh your skin. It is so gentle that it can even be used on sensitive skin.
Exfoliating body scrub makes a great shower favor, quick gift, treat for yourself or a hostess gift when you are welcomed to a friend’s beach house.  This jar will keep my skin happy all summer long!
Keep a jar of this sugar scrub by your kitchen to soothe your hands after washing dishes. It will rehydrate your skin from the harshness of the hot water and dish soap. Keep a jar of sugar scrub in the shower for a mini spa treatment up to 3 times a week!
Citrus Sugar Scrub Recipe Ingredients
It’s made with just a few ingredients, from your kitchen!
Sugar – 1/2 cup of regular white table sugar is perfect for this diy sugar scrub! It exfoliates your skin, gentling rubbing away dead skin cells leaving your skin feeling smooth and radiant.
Oil – I use 1/4 cup Vitamin E Oil in this recipe which is so good for your skin. Its anti inflammatory properties soothes and calms, while hydrating dry skin and working to heal any blemishes.
Citrus – Is so good for your body inside and out! Naturally full of vitamin C it leaves your skin with a beautiful glow! It also can help to lighten sun spots or other blemishes on your skin. I love the texture and beautiful color the citrus adds along with its amazingly refreshing scent!  You can use the zest from one Orange, Grapefruit, or Lemon, or 2 Limes, in this recipe.
*** Zest is made from the top layer of a fruit peel. Always try to avoid the white pith. If you don’t have a zester, you can use a vegetable peeler to gently peel the top layer of your fruit. Then cut the strips into finer strips lengthwise, and then again into tiny cubes widthwise.
Tumblr media
Supplies
Large Glass Mixing Bowl
Handheld Citrus Zester (variations under Tips and Tricks)
Spatula
Measuring Cups
Sealable Glass Jars (I like to use mason jars or repurpose clean jars I already own)
Ice Cream Scoop
Tumblr media
How to Make Exfoliating Body Scrub
This scrub is so easy to make. It only contains natural ingredients and no artificial food colorings.
Combine sugar and oil.
2. Add zest.
Tumblr media
3. Scoop into sealable glass jars.
4. Label and date.
5. Store for up to 3 months in an airtight container.
Variations
This sugar scrub recipe is so easy to customize to fit your needs!
Citrus Variations – In this recipe I use orange, but any other citrus would work well! In the past, I have used grapefruit, orange, lime, and lemon. They all have worked wonderfully! If using lime I chose to use the zest from 2 limes since they are smaller sized fruit.
Oil Variations – Vitamin E Oil, Coconut Oil, Olive Oil, Almond Oil, Carrot Oil, Argan Oil, Jojoba Oil, and Grapeseed Oil.
Sugar Variations – Any white sugar should work well in this recipe. Sugar is used for a gentle exfoliation so keep that in mind when choosing the coarseness of the sugar.
For a winter sugar scrub try adding a dash of ground cloves or ground cinnamon.
Add a few drops of essential oils. My favorite combinations include other citrus oils to complement and enhance, floral scents such as moroccan rose or lavender, and woody scents such cedar or rosemary.
Pro Tip: If using coconut oil, it will help to slightly warm the oil on the stovetop or even the microwave before adding it to the mixture. I love coconut oil and lime combination!
How to Store Sugar Scrub
This Sugar Scrub recipe can be stored for up to 3 months in a properly sealed jar / airtight container.
PRO TIP: Upcycle jars you already own!

How to Use a Body Scrub

Apply in Circular Motions: Gently massage the scrub onto your skin, focusing on rough areas like elbows, knees, and heels.
Rinse Off: Wash away the scrub with lukewarm water and pat your skin dry.
Seal the Deal: Follow up with a good moisturizer or body oil for extra softness.
DIY Moisturizing Scrub Recipe
Want to try making one at home? Here’s a quick and easy recipe:
1 cup sugar (or salt for a coarser scrub)
½ cup coconut oil (melted)

Each ebook in this series is thoughtfully curated with a wealth of information on using organic ingredients for beauty. Whether you’re a beginner or someone experienced in organic beauty practices, you’ll find the guidance useful, informative, and easy to follow.
What’s particularly impressive about this ebook series is its commitment to an all-natural approach. In a world where synthetic products and chemicals are rampant, this product offers a refreshing alternative, focusing entirely on pure, organic ingredients. By investing in these ebooks, you’re making a conscious choice towards a cleaner, healthier beauty regimen.
Comprehensive and Easy-to-Follow Guides
The “Organic Beauty Ebooks” series excels in providing detailed, step-by-step instructions for a range of beauty routines. Each guide is meticulously organised, making it easy to navigate through the chapters and find specific information. The structure is particularly helpful for those who may be new to DIY beauty. The ebooks cover all the essentials, including ingredient lists, preparation methods, and application instructions, ensuring you can recreate the processes with confidence.
One of the standout features of this ebook collection is its use of accessible language. The authors have clearly made an effort to avoid overly technical terms and jargon, which is often a hurdle in beauty literature. This makes the ebooks suitable for readers of all levels, even those who may not have prior knowledge of organic ingredients or natural beauty techniques. You’ll find each recipe well-explained, with detailed instructions that ensure there’s no ambiguity.
Rich in Natural Beauty Recipes
One of the major appeals of the “Organic Beauty Ebooks” collection is the variety of recipes included for different beauty needs. From rejuvenating face masks to nourishing hair oils and exfoliating body scrubs, this product has an impressive range of recipes that cater to various beauty concerns. The recipes are versatile, allowing users to mix and match ingredients based on their preferences or availability, which adds a lovely personalised touch to the experience.
The ebook also introduces readers to lesser-known ingredients and explains their benefits, such as the hydrating properties of aloe vera or the antioxidant power of green tea. This depth of information not only educates but also allows users to experiment with confidence, knowing that each recipe is backed by a wealth of research on the effectiveness of these ingredients.
Benefits of Using Organic Ingredients
The primary benefit of organic beauty lies in its purity and minimal environmental impact. With “Organic Beauty Ebooks,” you’re not just using natural ingredients, but also supporting a sustainable lifestyle. Organic beauty is increasingly valued for its gentleness on the skin and hair, free from harsh chemicals or artificial preservatives that can cause long-term damage.
The ebooks cover the benefits of using natural oils, butters, herbs, and flowers for beauty treatments, highlighting how these ingredients are rich in nutrients that nourish the skin without the need for synthetics. For example, coconut oil, rosewater, and avocado are presented as star ingredients, with comprehensive explanations on how they support skin health and radiance. This focus on natural ingredients also aligns with the growing demand for eco-friendly and cruelty-free beauty products, making these ebooks a perfect fit for conscious consumers.
Economical and Environmentally Friendly
Investing in “Organic Beauty Ebooks” can be surprisingly economical over time. With these guides, you can create your own beauty products rather than purchasing expensive organic products from the market. This not only helps you save money but also reduces packaging waste, contributing to an eco-friendlier lifestyle. The recipes in the ebook make it easy to reuse ingredients you may already have at home, making organic beauty accessible without requiring a substantial initial investment in products.
The ebooks even suggest methods for sustainable sourcing, such as using locally available ingredients and choosing suppliers that prioritise environmental ethics. By choosing organic ingredients and making products yourself, you’re also cutting down on plastic waste, which is a major concern in the beauty industry.
Suitable for Sensitive Skin and Personalisation
The ebook series caters to a broad audience by providing recipes that are gentle on all skin types, including sensitive skin. The absence of synthetic additives means that the recipes are less likely to irritate sensitive skin, making them suitable for everyone, from young adults to older generations. Each recipe allows for customisation, so users can adjust quantities or replace ingredients based on individual skin types and needs.
For example, if a recipe calls for essential oils, which can sometimes be too strong for sensitive skin, the ebook provides alternative suggestions or adjustments to create a gentler product. This flexibility makes it easy for everyone to enjoy the benefits of organic beauty without the worry of adverse reactions.
Beautifully Presented and Informative
The design of the “Organic Beauty Ebooks” deserves special mention. The layout is clean and visually appealing, with beautiful imagery that enhances the reading experience. The visuals not only make the ebooks aesthetically pleasing but also help in understanding the step-by-step processes better. Each chapter begins with an introduction to the specific theme, followed by practical advice, recipes, and tips.
Additionally, the ebooks include helpful resources at the end, such as ingredient sources, tips on storing homemade products, and frequently asked questions. This adds tremendous value, ensuring that readers have all the information they need to get the most out of their organic beauty journey.
Conclusion: A Must-Have for Organic Beauty Enthusiasts
The “Organic Beauty Ebooks” is an exceptional resource for anyone looking to make the transition to natural beauty. With a wealth of recipes, easy-to-follow instructions, and a focus on sustainability, this ebook series is a fantastic investment. I’m looking forward to a barre class and then catching up with a friend for lunch. For today’s post, I wanted to share the top 10 posts and pages from 2023. It’s always helpful to go back and see what type of content performed well, so that I can expand on these topics or write additional posts in the new year. Here are the top 10 posts and pages of 2023! 10. Why I Tried Nutrisense and What I Learned I’ve been using Nutrisense for a couple of years now, and it’s been such a helpful tool in my health journey. It’s been so insightful to see how my body responds to different habits, stressors, foods, and workouts, and I’ve been able to make positive changes in my routine. 9. How To Make Turmeric Face Scrub You can totally buy turmeric face scrub, but it tends to be on the pricey side and can contain ingredients you may not want to put on your skin. How To Keep Your Guinea Pig Cage Clean The guinea pigs are SO cute but I REALLY didn’t want our house to smell like a barn when we got them. Here’s how I keep their cage clean! Ostara bath time (deep cleanse)
((long post. Sorry))
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You will need (it's gonna be a big list and you don't really need ALL of it) :
Bath salts (mine was lavender)
Bubble bath
Fresh flowers of your choice (and herbs would be great too!)
Crystals (I chose clear quartz, amethyst, and rose quartz with a big piece of labradorite. Think Ostara colors)
Any oil (I chose organic coconut)
Exfoliator or a diy scrub (sugar and honey in a thick paste!)
Face wash
Body wash (I used a floral kind!)
A face mask of your choice (I used a clay mask cause I have acne)
Face moisturizer
A shaving razor (if you shave.)
Shampoo
Conditioner
Body lotion (I used lavender and strawberry)
And lastly, perfume. (Mine has rose water mixed into it)
Optional stuff that I didn't use; candles (pastel or white colors), essential oils, incense, music (happy and uplifting), pore strips, wax strips, oatmeal in a sock or filter for your bath (it makes it silky and your skin soft) AND anything else you can think of to make it a relaxing and cleansing experience.
Now. What to do with all of this stuff.
I'm sure you probably can tell what to do with it all, but I'm gonna list it all anyways!! 😁
First
gather everything up and put it all close to the tub so you don't need to get out. (I forgot a few things and had to get out all drippy. Not fun)
Start your water
and add all your bath ingredients: bath salts, bubble bath, essential oils, other oil (almond, coconut, olive, etc), oatmeal sock, bath bomb if you have one, and of course your fresh flowers and/or herbs sprinkled on top!
Decorate the edge of your tub
with candles, more flowers, crystals, maybe colored egg shells? Just think "spring". Oh and start your playlist and put your phone up somewhere safe (don't text and do magic! Plus you might drop your phone in the water.)
You've prepped, time to start.
Exfoliate everywhereeee.
Your face, legs, arms, tummy, hips, back, booty cheeks, feet, knees, elbows, hands. just dig in and really get yourself rid of all the dead skin on your body! Imagine that you're getting that fresh new beautiful spring body out of its husk lol.
Wash up!
Wash your face with face cleanser and wash your body all over with body wash. Imagine you're cleansing yourself of negative energy.
Face mask!
Get your favorite face mask that suits your skin type and keep it on for as long as it says to. If you don't have one, they're super easy to make so google up a DIY face mask for different skin types😁 (some say use baking soda. I don't really suggest that tbh it seems harsh on the skin. Even if you have acne) imagine that you're putting good, positive energy back in place of the negative energy
Shaving! (Totally optional, some people don't shave. You're still beautiful!)
while your face mask is on, start shaving wherever you want to.
Washing your hair!
After washing off the face mask (or letting it seep into your skin, depending on the mask) wash your hair. Get it clean and rid of more negative energy!
Conditioning!
Let your favorite conditioner sit through out all of your hair for like ten mins (unless you have oily, fine hair) visualize putting that positive energy back into your hair.
Meditate if you want for a bit!
Hold your crystals (make sure they're safe to get wet) and relax. Maybe even give a little prayer to who you worship and also thank the Earth.
Collect your flowers out of the tub before you drain it and rinse them.
You can press them in a book, dry them in the oven or with a heater, throw them back into the yard to give back to nature, or decorate your altar with them while they're still fresh.
Moisturize!
Moisturize your face with face moisturizer and then use body lotion ALL over your body! Or oil if you don't have body lotion😊 now you're putting in good energy all over your body.
Perfume if you'd like!
Again, I used a floral one with rose water in it. You could add moon water to it as well or just use some essential oils on your wrists and neck.
And then if you want to,
you could do your makeup, hair, nails, etc. Just get all groomed and fixed up the way you want to.
Finally, you are done.
I have some suggestions on my blog (that I have reblogged, giving credit to other users) for crafts, recipes, rituals, and more for Ostara. You are clean and full of positive energy to continue on with your celebration!
If any of you do this, you should totally tag me and let me know how it went for you. Maybe give other suggestions on what you did differently😁

Christmas Gift Ideas 2020
All of the gifts below that I thought of can be altered/customized to your budget, personal style and resources.
Face Mask’s
If you are handy with a sewing machine then this is a great one for you, using fabric scraps you already own or thrift bedsheets/t-shirts etc you could make your loved ones some custom face masks. Bonus points if you find a silk shirt and flip that into some face masks as silk, is hypo-allergenic, breathable and causes less friction on the skin so is perfect for anyone suffering from maskne (mask-acne). However, if sewing isn’t for you then places like Etsy have a wide range of masks for everyone and purchasing from sellers on their also supports small business.
Candle and match sticks
Candles are all the rage with thousands of reels and tik tok’s on how to twist candles. If you are brave enough then go for it! You can gift your hand-twisted candles to your friend along with a box of nice matches. Writing empowering messages or mantra’s on the matches (maybe get extra-long ones if you have large handwriting!) will mean that every time your loved one goes to light a candle there is a message from you to brighten their day. There is no need to twist candles, you could support a small business and buy theirs or just get a standard candle. You don’t have to support every trend! Bonus points for matching your loved one’s colour palette to the candles or vice versa. For example, my favourite colour right now is green so a set of candles ranging from emerald to sage would be much appreciated.
Seasonal Drink
It may be the British in me but Christmas is a time where having something to drink on these long winter nights is the norm. I am speaking of something alcoholic but non-alcoholic also works. I love vintage/second-hand glasses and they can be pretty cheap €1 a glass. You could get a second-hand glass of your choosing and send it to your friend along with a bottle of their favourite drink. If you want to amp it up, you could also include a cocktail/mocktail recipe book and some drink rocks. Drink rocks are reusable and do not dilute your drink. If they aren’t a spirit/liquor drinker then a stainless steel ice cube tray is also an eco-friendly and plastic-free option. I could go on with more items to include in this bundle but metal straws, coasters, fabric napkins and more are all ways you could expand this gift idea.
Seasonings
If you know a good amateur chef or home cook then getting them some fancy salt, oil and or vinegar may be an interesting idea. You could buy; one, two or all three and either make sure they coordinate e.g. Rosemary salt, garlic oil and lemon vinegar or they could be contrasting e.g. Truffle salt, chilli oil and amaretto vinegar. The endless combinations make this a fun gift and allow for some fun experimentation when cooking. If you’re a big diy’er you could infuse the oil and make custom labels for everything. You could also add in crackers, olives and risotto to turn it into a Mediterranean hamper or harissa, dried apricots and Ras-el-hanout to make it more North-African.
In the Bag.
A thrifted bag from a second hand/vintage shop (if open where you are) or one bought of Depop/eBay may make a great gift for a fashion-conscious person you know. Then you could add in a lip balm and/or a lip-gloss, a packet of their favourite sweets, a cute bottle of hand-sanitiser and a travel-size bottle of hand cream. These are all optional, the bag would be more than enough but they are just extras for you to think about. You could also make any of these extras vegan, cruelty-free, plastic fee etc
Cosy Toe’s
I don’t know about you but I get really cold feet in the winter. So thick socks are a must! A great idea could be to give someone a pair of fluffy socks. They could be practical or whimsical. I have been gifted thick, grey woollen pairs and a fun foxed themed pair (I love foxes). You could embroider a message or design on them if that’s your thing or pack them with some foot cream and a pedicure kit. As salons haven’t really been open this year pamper time is even more important.
 Dried flowers
I do not mean the trendy ones, all over insta interior posts, I mean the Victorian past time. Pressed dried flowers, you could use flowers or leaves you have, buy some and then press them or that sounds too long then you could even buy pre-pressed and dried online. I saw a cute DIY on YouTube where they had been glued on to a small bowl or plate in a pretty pattern. This could be used to display jewellery, makeup etc. Furthermore, you could also arrange pressed flowers and plants into a pattern and place them on a canvas or in a frame to make a minimalistic art piece for someone.
Body care kit
I often joke, I am secretly an old lady as I have dry skin and so am always re-applying lotion. Now, its wintertime that is an absolute necessity but it’s also an act of self-care and 2020 has been a long year so extra self-care is needed. So gifting someone a kit of body scrub, body wash and lotion is a little bit of luxury we all need right now. You could expand on this and include a dry brush to get that circulation and lymphatic drainage going as well somebody oil or a bath bomb to increase the level of pampering. Making body scrub is quite easy but I recommend sugar and not coffee grounds if you do go the DIY route and you can turn regular liquid soap into fun shapes with jelly moulds and gelatine.
Homemade bookmark
Before you laugh, I am not suggesting the ones you made when you were seven unless you were an expert crafter. I am suggesting more sophisticated ones but the end product is up to you so I take no responsibility, I am just the provider of ideas! Those pressed flowers we had earlier? Extra ones could be attached in a pattern and glued onto card. You could go full out an paint one using all your creativity. Or make one out of photos of you and the booklover you’re giving this too. Lastly, it could just be an inspirational quote like: you deserve another glass of wine
Or you could do one of each and give them a medley of bookmarks for all their mood and needs.
Last but not least a Playlist
I know this may seem a little 2012 Tumblr but bear with me. You curate a playlist for them on their preferred app; if you don’t have access or its different to your one then give them detailed instructions for how they should assemble it). The playlist could be based upon a memory you have together or something you’re planning to do with them in the future, or anything you want! Then write out an explanation behind why you chose each song, what it reminds you of and why you thought that person would get it. You could burn the playlist onto a CD if you have the tech for that. For all the artsy types you could illustrate the written out reasoning with drawings, attach photos, collage – whatever you like to get the emotion across.
To everyone reading, I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and for those who don’t celebrate then this list may come in handy for another gift-giving occasion. I don’t know about you but I cannot wait to be stuffed full of food on Christmas day, opening presents and sharing laughs.
Happy Christmas!

Vanilla Coffee Body Scrub
Hello beauties! Today I will be sharing with you a recipe that I found ages ago and unfortunately lost the source for, as I just saved it as a note in my phone. I pair this with an exfoliating washcloth and emerge from the shower with buttery soft skin like the exfoliated goddess that I am! I haven’t included links for purchase of any of the mentioned ingredients because they are all able to be found easily at your local grocery store. Hope you enjoy this, its super easy and fun to make and would make a sweet home made gift!
- 1 Cup Coffee Grounds (can use grounds already used for brewing, but i recommend letting them dry out a bit first)
- 2/3 Cup Brown Sugar
- 1/2 Cup Honey
- 2 Tablespoons Vanilla Extract
- 1 Cup (Unmelted) Coconut Oil
Mix together and store in an airtight jar!
I’m not sure exactly how long this can be stored for, so just keep an eye on it and toss the second you notice any funky odor or change in appearance.
**WARNING: This awesome DIY product will beautifully exfoliate your skin, but it will also beautifully STAIN YOUR BATHTUB. I typically only use 1-2 times a week to avoid scrubbing at the tub walls for hours on end**

The 13 Best Ingredients for Natural Skin Care
Pamper your body without spending a fortune thanks to these natural skin care ingredients found right in your kitchen.
Read on to discover how you can indulge in DIY spa sessions using foods and oils filled with nutrients and minerals that help support healthy skin, hair, and nails. By nourishing your body with real foods, you can save money and avoid harsh chemicals found in commercial body care products.
1. Magnesium Oil
Magnesium is one of the most abundant minerals in our bodies, where it is responsible for over 300 enzyme reactions. It helps regulate blood pressure, improve sleep, and boost immunity, to name just a few benefits. (1, 2, 3)
Unfortunately, due to the depletion of our soils from over-farming, many foods don’t contain as much magnesium as they used to. This makes it easy to become deficient in this important nutrient, especially if you aren’t eating a variety of plants and magnesium-rich foods.
This is where magnesium oil comes in. Applying magnesium in the form of a topical oil can help restore magnesium levels faster than consuming it orally, so your body can experience its zen-promoting benefits sooner rather than later. (4)
How to Use Magnesium Oil
Magnesium oil sprays and lotions are the best way to apply magnesium topically. Indulge yourself following a shower or hot bath by rubbing the oil into your skin. It might tingle at first, but the sensation quickly fades.
2. Epsom Salt
Drawing a bath with Epsom salt is another great way to increase your magnesium levels in order to ease stress, reduce anxiety, and give your nervous system a rest. (5) As a bonus, studies also show that soaking in magnesium-rich baths improves skin hydration, skin roughness, and skin redness. (6)
How to Pamper Your Body with Epsom Salt
Draw a hot bath a few times a week (or even every day if you want!). Add 2 cups of Epsom salt and swish them around until they’re dissolved. Soak for at least 15 minutes to enjoy the calming benefits.
3. Avocados
Not only do the healthy fats and nutrients in avocado help nourish your body from the inside, they can also lend your skin some serious moisture. Avocados are rich in vitamin E, a powerful antioxidant that helps reduce signs of aging, protects skin from sun damage, and helps keep skin supple by boosting collagen. (7)
How to Use Avocado
Mash up some avocado into a guacamole-like consistency (yes, you can eat some) and slather on your face for a quick, no-fuss face mask. Leave the mask on for 10 to 15 minutes.
If you want to add a few more natural skin care benefits to your mask, combine with a tablespoon of raw honey and a teaspoon of turmeric powder. Let sit for 15 minutes, then rinse off.
4. Activated Charcoal
Activated charcoal is a pure form of charcoal that has the ability to absorb toxins and impurities, both from inside your body and on your skin. (8) Note: it’s not your barbecue charcoal. Like clay, activated charcoal can help pull out dirt and oil that’s stuck in your pores, causing irritation.
Activated charcoal can also help remove stains from your teeth, effectively acting as a natural teeth whitener.
How to Use Activated Charcoal
As a face mask to clear pores: Mix 1 teaspoon of activated charcoal powder with 1/2 teaspoon raw honey and 1/2 teaspoon water. Apply to you face, avoiding your delicate eye area, and let dry for 10 minutes. Wash off with warm water.
As a teeth whitening paste: Wet your toothbrush, place 1/2 teaspoon of activated charcoal powder on it, and brush your teeth. Let the paste sit for 5 to 10 minutes, then wash out your mouth.
5. Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar has been used for centuries to treat a variety of ailments, from digestive issues to acne. It is naturally antibacterial while also containing beneficial enzymes and acids that nourish skin and reduce acne-causing bacteria. (9)
How to Use Apple Cider Vinegar
Dilute apple cider vinegar in water and use as a natural face toner and acne treatment.
Pour diluted apple cider vinegar on your scalp after shampooing as a natural conditioning and dandruff treatment.
Soak your feet in diluted apple cider vinegar to soften calluses.
Add apple cider vinegar to a bath to soften and nourish skin.
6. Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is a potent antibacterial and antifungal. This powerful oil contains healthy, medium-chain fatty acids that moisturize and protect skin and hair. (10, 11)
How to Use Coconut Oil
Use coconut oil as a full-body moisturizer after you shower. To add a calming aroma, add a drop of sweet orange essential oil or peppermint oil.
Alternatively, you can use coconut oil as a face moisturizer to help fight wrinkles and acne. The healthy fats in coconut oil lock in moisture in your skin, while the antibacterial properties combat acne.
7. Vitamin E Oil
Vitamin E is a potent antioxidant vitamin that fights free radical damage. (12) Free radicals are unstable molecules that damage our DNA, resulting in signs of aging and disease. On any given day, we are exposed to and generate a great deal of free radicals from unhealthy diets, environmental pollution, and even stress. Consuming vitamin E-rich foods and applying the oil topically can help reduce and prevent damage.
How to Use Vitamin E Oil
To nourish your skin, apply vitamin E oil directly, or add several drops to your face and body moisturizer (or add it to coconut oil as a DIY moisturizer).
8. Shea Butter
Shea butter is the creamy fat extracted from the African Shea tree, which is considered sacred by many communities in West Africa. Studies have shown it is excellent at moisturizing skin, and also contains powerful anti-aging and anti-inflammatory properties. (13)
How to Use Shea Butter
Shea butter has a rich, creamy texture that makes it perfect for use as a full-body lotion, or even as a heavy face moisturizer. To make your Shea butter experience even more indulgent, add a couple drops of your favorite essential oils and combine them thoroughly before applying.
As a bonus, Shea butter is also said to be excellent for improving the look of stretch marks.
9. Coffee
We all know that coffee gives us a kick-start to our day, but it also contains a ton of antioxidants that help fight signs of aging. Coffee’s caffeine content may even help improve cellulite when applied topically. (14)
How to Use Coffee
Using coffee as a full-body scrub can help remove dead skin cells while also increasing circulation and improving the appearance of cellulite. To whip up an easy scrub, combine:
1/2 cup coffee grounds
1/4 cup coconut oil
1-2 drops of your favorite essential oil
10. Raw Honey
Raw honey just got sweeter: You can not only grab a spoonful for its antibacterial benefits, but you can also apply it topically to help reduce acne, inflammation, brighten skin, and lock in moisture. (15) Honey is a humectant, which means it attracts and holds moisture, which is great for keeping skin supple.
How to Use Raw Honey
For a brightening and moisturizing face mask, combine one tablespoon of raw honey with one drop of lemon essential oil. Apply to your face and let sit for 15 minutes, then wash away with warm water.
11. Sea Salt
Sea salt is rich in an array of trace minerals, including potassium, magnesium, calcium, manganese, and zinc. It’s naturally antibacterial, which helps manage acne and other skin conditions caused by bacteria. (16) Its coarseness also makes it great for use as a full-body scrub.
How to Use Sea Salt
Make a soothing salt scrub by combining 1/4 cup sea salt, 1/4 cup aloe vera gel, 1/4 cup coconut oil, and 2-3 drops of your favorite essential oil. This should form a thick paste you can rub over your body in the shower.
Add 1/2 cup of sea salt to your Epsom salt bath for an extra dose of minerals and skin-softening benefits.
12. Lemon
Lemons are rich in vitamin C, another potent antioxidant that fights aging and DNA damage. (17) When applying lemon topically, make sure to avoid the sun as citrus can make your skin sensitive to light.
How to Use Lemon
Add 1 teaspoon of fresh lemon juice to one tablespoon of raw honey. Apply to your face and let sit for 15 minutes before washing away with warm water.
Take a section of lemon and rub it on your nails to help whiten them.
Add one tablespoon of fresh lemon juice or 2 drops of lemon essential oil to one of the body scrub recipes mentioned above.
13. Coconut Cream
Coconut cream makes a luxurious hair and body moisturizer. Note: Coconut cream is different from coconut oil. Where coconut oil is pressed from coconut flesh, coconut cream results from simmering coconut flesh in water. The thick, creamy layer that separates from the thinner layer is coconut cream (the rest is coconut milk). Coconut cream contains beneficial saturated fats and acids that moisturize, as well as kill bad bacteria. (18)
How to Use Coconut Cream
Nourish you hair by combining 1/2 cup coconut cream with 2 tsp raw honey and 1/4 cup coconut milk. Apply liberally to ends of damp hair. Let sit for 10 minutes, then rinse.
