Since his personality heavily revolves around the fact that he’s the fastest racer on his planet I feel like you can give a really interesting perspective on him

DUUUUUDDDDDEEEEEEEE Blurr is so hard to pinpoint exactly what car he could be... theres just so, so many historical cars that completely dominated the racing scene, and there's many more that's to come. Before i go onto full-fledged experimental vehicles, lemme first introduce you to the Bugatti Bolide

THIS piece of art and engineering is a track-only hypercar, and it recently debuted at the 2023 Le Mans. It has all the bells and whistles you'd expect a race car to have, W16 engine, carbon all over, carbon brakes, 7 speed dual clutch transmission, what have you. The paint color is dubbed Agile Blue and what more perfect car to assign to our beloved Blurr. Bugatti claims it makes about 1825 horsepower with 1850 n/m torque, with a top speed of 501 km/h (311 mph).

Speaking of Le Mans, let's dive into those vehicles now. For those unfamiliar with Le Mans, it's a 24 hour endurance race held in France. It's one of the oldest racing series to exist, predating Formula 1 by 30 years, and it's still continuing now!

In Rescue Bots, Blurr IS in fact an LMP (Le Mans Prototype) styled car.

judging by the headlights it looks more to be a newer LMP Ferrari, but ehhh while its not a bad choice i wouldnt really associate Blurr with Ferrari, that brand's nature would be more suited for Mirage. but damn do they have good lookin cars. I would, though, associate Blurr with older Porsche. Statistically, Porsche is the current record holder for the most successful manufacturer in Le Mans to date with 19 wins, with one of their most iconic cars being the Porsche 917 & Porsche 956.

I think it would be criminal to not honour Blurr's racing history, that's why i'm putting a race car in here.

Lando Norris is the mystery. Carlos has never met him in person, but he knows Lando will be perfect for the job. But Lando is not exactly what Carlos envisioned a computer nerd to be. In fact, he is very, very hot.

Good Omens Fan Fiction Friday (12/13/24) - Smooth Criminals

People around the world are celebrating a plethora of winter/summer holidays. And I'm thinking about fan fics featuring criminals. What can I say? I'm a contrarian (come back next week for some Christmas recs). Here are a few favorites featuring criminal undertakings. Let's start with the one I couldn't put down--that made me feature this theme: Protect and Serve (E) by snae_b tells the story of Chicago cop Aziraphale Fell on the hunt for master thief, the Serpent. But is all as it seems? This fic offers surprises from the very first chapter (go ahead, read it; I dare you to not keep going). And keeps the tension going through the entire work with several twists and turns. Mind the tags. The story is violent at times and references trafficking and abuse of children. But, if that is not a deal breaker for you, absolutely worth it. After the tension of my last rec, you'll need something a bit more fluffy. So may I recommend The (Wedding) Arrangement (T) by Sonnet 23? Private detective Aziraphale McFell and the thief Anthony Crowley are close friends--and maybe more? They team up to catch the criminals targeting grand weddings all over London. For readers who like their capers with a heaping helping of fluff. In Thieves of Mercy (T) by Fyre, art thief Anthony Crowley is casing the museum for a job when he's hauled in by security with a tracking tag on him. The only person who could have framed him was that chatty art conservator with the halo of platinum hair. Thus starts a hilarious game of wits. Father Crowley is asked to take over directing the choir in Father Gabriel's church, replacing Aziraphale in Take Me to Heaven (M) by TawnyOwl95. Yes, it's a Good Omens take on a popular movie with singing nuns. And it features some fun art by NettleThistle. Set in Australia, A Season of Whale Song (E) by @drconstellation features botanist Aziraphale bunking with leader of whale tours Crowley when his accommodations get messed up. Both are keeping secrets. But manage to become quite close. This is a WIP but it's one chapter from finishing this first part of what's going to be a trilogy. Don't want to give too much away about why it's on a list of criminal fics. But I can tell you it's one of those stories that entertains while teaching about all kinds of cool things--whales, indigenous culture, astronomy, plant life, and more.

In the 14th Century, Crowley is a thief. And Aziraphale is the kind nobleman who befriends him in The Weight of Memory (E) by @missunderstoodlyrics and @searching4sarahtonin. Unfortunately for our pair, Aziraphale's suitor, Gabriel curses Crowley to separate the pair. But the curse doesn't work as expected. This magical story is loads of fun. And very romantic. It's a lovely fantasy.

In Eros, Philia, and Other Misunderstandings (M) by @thinkinginscripts, Aziraphale is a celibate administrator in his family's mega-church trying to stay true to himself without rocking the boat. Crowley is an East London barman trying to make a better life for himself. They meet at the library. I adored the slowly unfolding relationship for these two. And that's what you'll get for most of the work. Don't want to give too much away about why it's in this theme. But let me just say you'll get a satisfying glimpse of BAMF!Aziraphale and BAMF!Crowley. One of my all-time favorites. And finally, Stalwart Sun, Wily Moon (M) by @dustandhalos is back on my list again. I recommended it before in my list of works with stunning art work. But this story of Crowley as an art thief at the top of his game and Aziraphale, the art conservator drawn into his dangerous world is worth another mention. It's a top notch heist story, well plotted and beautifully written. Reblog and add your favorite fics featuring criminal activity.

Ah, if only love could ever be something easy. “Sometimes I wish I’d met you in a park.” Crowley’s hands move lower, down, down until he reaches Aziraphale’s palms and intertwines their fingers. There isn’t a single chance this gesture can fall under the umbrella of ‘plausible deniability’. Though nothing about this sort of impromptu confession could. “A park, uh? Nice.” A squeeze. “I always imagine something like a library. Or a bookshop or, not sure, whatever place is full of books.”

The service keep tabs on suspects, root out enemy agents and try to turn them into doubles. Anthony J Crowley is fucking great at this job. He can be sneaky, underhanded and damn ruthless but also charming and kind. It’s what makes him good at turning. Aziraphale is just a regular Soho bookseller who loves his shop and books and good food and wine when he’s approached by a woman claiming to be MI5, wanting to recruit him for espionage. The poor man is too trusting and gets the shock of his life when he’s approached by a charming but dangerous-looking man also claiming to be MI5. Crowley recruits Aziraphale to double cross a double crosser and Aziraphale takes to espionage like a duck to water. Danger, hijinks, and sex ensue.

When he drew level, he chanced a glance over at the other man, who turned when he sensed that he’d become a subject of scrutiny.

Dean’s breath stopped in his throat. The man’s jaw was sharp as a word spoken in anger, his skin pale and clean-shaven. Long, graceful fingers played idly with one of the free Funtime Liquors matchbooks as he waited. His eyes promised mischief and mysteries. Dean wouldn’t have been surprised to learn the man had just stepped out of a movie screen.

Too late, he realized he was staring, and then only because the man’s plump lips had twitched slightly on one side.

Dean cleared his throat. “Merry Christmas,” he said.

“Merry Christmas to you too, officer,” the man returned.

Dean flinched, feeling caught out. Whoever the man was, he was clearly smart if plainclothes didn’t fool him. “That obvious?” he asked.

When Dean chanced another glance at the man, he was still looking back, humor glinting in his eyes. “It’s practically stamped on your forehead.”

Maybe Dean ought to have taken that for the dismissal it likely was, but the bit of humor in the man’s gaze felt almost akin to a smile. Most men wouldn’t smile at someone they wanted gone.

“Haven’t I seen you in a movie?” Dean tried.

The man dropped his head with a low, rough chuckle. Dean fought down a surge of embarrassment. A handsome man in a well-cut suit, five blocks from Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, where all the most glamorous Hollywood premieres took place? It wasn’t too outrageous a guess.

Dean was about to tell the man “never mind” when he caught Dean’s eyes again and said, “It’s unlikely. Unless you happened to pay very close attention to Youth Number 3 in the opening scene of It Came From Saturn's Rings.”

“You were in that?” Dean asked eagerly. This time, there was no fighting the heat on his face. He had a great weakness for science fiction movies, and he remembered seeing a screening of It Came From Saturn's Rings on opening night some three years back. Even working in Hollywood for as long as he had, he’d never stopped being a little starry-eyed about anybody who’d graced the silver screen.

His question got him an interesting reaction: the man’s head tipped to the side, his eyes narrowing, the better to study Dean. For the first time, he seemed to put some actual stock in their conversation. “You’ve seen it?”

“Yeah,” Dean confirmed, embarrassingly pleased to have found this patch of common ground between them. “It was good.”

It hadn’t been anything special, in truth, but the man was smiling in earnest now, one side of those plush lips curving up, and Dean thought he’d do just about anything to keep that smile going.

Storytel — monthly subscription for unlimited access to audiobooks.

YouTube

Learn Italian With Lucrezia — truly the savior of anyone learning Italian. My favorite videos are her Q&As, vlogs, and “n basic phrases you need to know.” I don’t get much out of her grammar explainer videos but that’s because of who I am as a person.

NovaLectio — commentary style mini documentaries. I export them to LingQ to read before watching and it helps me parse what’s going on. Also, they upload some videos dubbed in English so you can watch both.

Vogue Italia — celebrity interviews and fashion content. About 50/50 Italian and English but obviously high production value.

ArtandtheCities — criminally underrated channel imo. 10-15 minute art history/industry videos by an art historian. Super interesting, she’s easy to understand, and has captions.

Chef Max Mariola — utter chaos but fun. A Roman chef cooking various dishes, sometimes with a guest. Gives very “your uncle is hosting Thanksgiving and forgot until yesterday” vibes but in the best way.

TV/Movies/Documentaries

RaiPlay (free!) — Italian version of PBS. Lots of documentaries and some kind of goofy soap operas/narrative shows. You can also watch live TV.

Podcasts and Radio

RaiPlay Sound — basically NPR. Also free! You can find podcasts, live radio stations, audiobooks, and even audio descriptions of movies and TV shows.

Articles

Formula 1 Italia — Formula 1 news. I’m a big Ferrari fan but they cover a lot of news/current events (as long as they can connect it to a driver). The writing is short and to the point so it’s easy to parse for beginners. And honestly the drama is better than a lot of TV shows.

Stile Arte — long, more complex articles about art and archaeology. Cannot recommend it enough if you have an interest in any of those things. There are some straightforward history articles at the B1/B2 level, and also some more creative essays that push C1.

Corriere della Sera — daily news site. I started reading the news only in Italian to keep me from doom scrolling because America is terrifying. This is just the site I have ended up using a lot. Mostly because it’s easy to navigate and they have a ton of content.
