The Lord of the Rings movies obviously move much faster than the books (condensing things, cutting things and so on). But after listening to Exploring The Lord of the Rings which has taken 93 episodes of an hour plus of discussion to get to the Ford of Bruinen, watching the movies feels like the story is going to break the sound barrier.

This is interesting. It makes me think of the (I think, more satisfying) version of events in The Tale of Years where the Dwarves do not take the Silmaril out of Doriath, but Melian saves it and brings it to Beren and Luthien. And instead of Beren and the Ents attacking the Dwarves, Celegorm and Curufin ambush them, thinking they have the Silmaril:

Curufin and Celegorm, hearing of the sack of Menegroth, ambushed the Dwarves at the Fords of Ascar as they sought to carry off the Dragon-gold to the mountains. The Dwarves were defeated with great loss, but they cast the gold into the river, which was therefore after named Rathloriel. Great was the anger of the sons of Feanor to discover that the Silmaril was not with the Dwarves; but they dared not to assail Luthien. Dior goes to Doriath and endeavours to recover the realm of Thingol.

It shows again that, villainous though they have become, they don't just go from "not trying at all" to "kinslay!". This failed ambush is much more satisfying to me in the "villain arc" of the sons of Feanor. They've tried assaulting Morgoth, they've tried conquering the conquerers... then they are too afraid to assail Luthien (friggin love that btw) and the attack of Doriath is their last resort. In their logic, which is warped, but still.

Like OP, I'm not defending them. I don't think the Oath could physically make them do anything, and I think it's fair to call them cowards and condemn their logic, but I do think we overlook some of the steps that led them down the path towards the second kinslaying.

I’m here to chew on the House of Fëanor like a tiger with a pumpkin full of raw beef, not to defend any of their actions, but, man, sometimes I see Second Kinslaying discourse and I just gotta be like…

i mean they did also kill jesus try to regain the 2 Silmarils from Morgoth first. that was a pretty significant thing that happened. like i understand where you’re coming from here but they very much did try to regain the 2 Silmarils from Morgoth first.

While still being sleepy, I was moving my hand to find Blair. A wave of panic ran through me when I realized she wasn’t there. For a second I even forgot I was in a hotel and not in my house. At that moment I was fully awake, going into every room to find my baby. The image I saw when I opened the kitchen door made my heart melt completely. Blair was sitting at the table with her favourite toy in her arms, while Ricky was feeding her pancakes.

“It’s not cool eating without me.”

They both had their eyes on me, and I couldn’t tell who had the biggest smile.

“Good morning, my love. You needed to rest more than ever. How do you feel?”

“I’m good, I think. I panicked a little when I couldn’t find Blair next to me.”

“Sorry about that, but the little princess was hungry.”

After eating, she went straight to the other room to play with the rest of her toys. I wanted to have her around me as much as possible, but right now I wanted to find out more about Ricky’s plan, and it wasn’t good for her to hear something.

“I feel like I’ve been waiting forever for you to give me more details. Can you tell me now, please?”

“Not yet, love. But very soon. How about you get ready, I’ll get myself and Blair ready, and then we’ll go to a really nice place?”

“Ugh, fine. But this is not helping me at all.”

He took my face in his hands, looked me in the eyes, and kissed me for reassurance. Something to make me feel better and not forget that I don’t have to fight alone anymore.

After a drive of about 30 minutes, in which Ricky said nothing about this “really nice place”, we arrived in a heaven like place. We were surrounded by big trees that had little white flowers in them and we could see a lake in the distance that had the clearest water I had ever seen. It was so peaceful and quiet that I felt how every fear I had was vanishing in the air.

“I discovered this place yesterday and I knew I had to take you both to see it.”

While I had Blair in my arms, taking the beautiful view in, Ricky got a picnic basket out from the car. He really had everything planned apparently. After he put everything in place, we sat down, watching Blair running around, discovering every possible piece of this place.

“Yesterday while I sat here, I was thinking about everything that happened between us. We’ve been through some things, not really nice ones, but I’m so happy we are here now, together.”

“How so? I thought we left those things behind us.”

“Of course we did, it was not in a bad way, believe me. But after you told me what Corey intends to do, it made me realize some things.”

“And what did you realize exactly?”

“That even though I was really dumb in the past, now I consider myself the luckiest man on earth. I had moments when I thought, “what if we stayed together and Corey was never in the picture”? But I still won’t have it any other way, knowing that Blair wouldn’t have been here with us today. I don’t care she is not biologically mine, I still consider her my daughter.”

My eyes were full of tears while he had his little speech. By the time it was done, they were running down my cheeks. I never told him how many moments I had thought that maybe one day he would be gone, thinking that he didn’t fit in this picture. He never did anything to lead me in this direction, but my fear was present nevertheless.

“Ricky, you have no idea how happy you make me and Blair too. It was always you, and I was sure of that from the beginning. We both are lucky to have you in our lives.”

He took me in his arms, kissing my forehead. His hand was running down my back, trying to stop my tears from falling.

“Now it’s the time to tell you about my plan. And you’ll understand why I had to wait.”

“Alright, what is it?”

“So Corey said his reason for taking Blair is that I live with you both, right?”

“Yes. He made it seem like you are a stranger, not my boyfriend.”

“Well, if that it’s his problem, we will have to change some things to show the court it’s not what he thinks.”

To say I was confused was a misunderstanding. A little wave of panic ran through me as I thought he wanted to move out of the house. I was so used already having him around that I couldn’t take this idea even as an option.

“You are staying with us. Moving is not a solution to this problem.”

“Moving? I was not talking about that.”

“Then what? I don’t understand.”

“I have just one more thing to add. If you don’t agree with this plan, I will completely understand.”

“Just tell me, please. I’m so confused, I don’t have any idea what you are trying to do.”

“I’m trying to show you how much I love you, Lexus. That you and Blair are my world, and I’ll do anything to keep you both safe.”

He moved a little, so now he was standing right in front of me. His hand reached his pocket and got a little box out of it. When he opened it, I saw the most perfect and beautiful ring.

“Lexus, my love. Will you marry me?”

In the Disneyverse, is there somehow a fine line of difference between the Moroni Olson/Tony Jay/Birth By Sleep!Corey Burton Magic Mirror and the Hans Conried/Happy Haunting!Corey Burton Magic Mirror? Also, is Willoughby the assistant mirror spirit from the 1951 Walt Disney Christmas Show a part of the Disneyverse?

The only spirit in the Magic Mirror in the DisneyVerse is Voland, who is ultimately malevolent. Any depictions of the personality of the Magic Mirror in Disney promotional materials are non canon to the DisneyVerse. As such no Willoughby, sorry.

Phoenix.- Los enfrentamientos de la postemporada de las Grandes Ligas están definidos, con los duelos por el comodín de la Liga Americana y la Liga Nacional arrancando hoy

Ronald Acuña Jr., Matt Olson y la potente ofensiva de los Bravos de Atlanta se han hecho acreedores de unos días adicionales de descanso y relajación tras el trajín de los 162 juegos de temporada regular en las Grandes Ligas.

Mismo caso para José Altuve, Justin Verlander y los vigentes campeones Astros de Houston –quienes ganaron el banderín de la División Oeste de la Liga Americana en el último día de la temporada– al igual que los Dodgers de Los Angeles y la admirable historia de los Orioles de Baltimore.

En cuanto a los ocho equipos restantes la acción de la postemporada llega de manera apresurada.

Los enfrentamientos de la postemporada de las Grandes Ligas están definidos, con los duelos por el comodín de la Liga Americana y la Liga Nacional arrancando hoy. Es el segundo año con el nuevo formato de octubre, que incluye una primera ronda con series al mejor de tres, con todos los juegos disputándose en casa del mejor clasificado.

En la Americana, los sextos clasificados Azulejos de Toronto visitarán a los terceros Mellizos de Minnesota, y los quintos Rangers de Texas viajarán a casa de los cuartos Rays de Tampa Bay. En la Nacional, figuran los sextos Diamondbacks de Arizona ante los terceros Cerveceros de Milwaukee, y los quintos Marlins de Miami ante los Filis de Filadelfia.

A Few Small Thoughts On Amazon's "Rings of Power"

I have seen a LOT of people on tumblr and the internet as a whole genuinely furious, irate, upset, aggravated, and even downright hostile at the new amazon show that is soon to be. And I get it, Amazon is only in it for the money, that part is hard to argue. They saw the success of other fantasy shows like GoT and The Witcher and wanted in on that action.

Yet, I think it would be a huge disservice to the creators of the show (not the Amazon overlords) to dismiss this as horrible from the start. Lest we forget that originally, Peter Jackson's the Lord of the Rings was set to be a Harvey Weinstein production (his name is still in the credits, because he wouldn't sell the rights unless they kept his slimy name in the credits) who wanted all three films to be a SINGLE film, have at least one hobbit die, and have over 4/5ths of the story cut or changed. Thankfully New Line Cinemas stepped in and saved the day, but it was the creators (Jackson and Co.) that fought to keep the story true. My point is, we cannot judge a creator by their benefactor, especially before the actual piece is released. The Tolkien scholars and creator fans (who grew up and loved watching the Lord of the Rings too) attached to this project are dedicated to seeing this done right. Amazon is paying for the show, the people working on the show are not the people paying for it to be made. Again, I point to the scholars that they have on staff to make sure its done as faithfully as possible. Amazon is literally contractually obliged not to change the story. Add to it? Yes. Change it? No.

Will it be perfect? Hell no, how could it be? This is the most magical history in all of history, it can't be perfect. But we shouldn't make this out to be anything more than what it truly is. This will simply be an adaptation, an interpretation. This doesn't change anything at all about the book(s) itself.

Now, I can hear the people already saying "Well but what about the fannon and headcannons? We've had these stories for years and now people will view these stories all through the lens of the new show?" I can sympathize, truly. But liking something different, and demanding it never changes are two different things. We cannot expect new fans to adhere to headcannons because we've been fans longer than they have. If there are new fans, I'm glad of it, The Silmarillion deserves so much more love than it's gotten. And for those still holding out against the show because it's different than the fan communities headcannons, I would say to do what Neil Gaiman did. He found that the movies were replacing what was the Lord of the Rings in his head, and so he stopped watching them (not because he didn't like it, but he wanted to keep his headcannon alive in his head). No one is forcing anyone to watch this.

And as far as forcing anyone to do anything, this is not a message trying to engage with those racist ideologues that bemoan any changes perceived of racial divergences in the narratives. I will not waste more time explaining why that thought process helps no one. In essence, the anger at someone portraying an elf in middle-earth as black is small-minded and unimaginative, and I'll say no more about it.

And as far as unimaginative, I think the anger towards Elrond's hair is somewhat interesting. As we have seen in trailers, only two elves have short hair. Elrond is quite literally the youngest elf we have ever seen on screen. Young children have short hair. These elves are young. Notice who didn't have short hair? The Calequendi, Galadriel. My hope is that this is an intentional kind of specialized attention and small detail work that will be seen throughout the whole show, but we will have to wait and see.

Speaking of, lastly, I do not intend to convince anyone that this show will be good. In fact, I see many ways it could go horribly wrong. Yet, assuming it will be bad is to engage with some good ole self-fulfilling prophecy. Going into a show, movie, book, art in general, and expecting it to be bad will make focusing on the things we don't like about that art far more likely. I'm not saying you shouldn't be wary, but I am suggesting that if you go into it looking for new things you like, rather than things you don't, will automatically improve your experience. I cannot take credit for this idea, Tolkien Professor Corey Olson helped me to start doing this and I'm so glad he did. This isn't to say you can't dislike something, rather, it is to say that by changing your perspective from negatively engaged to positively curious is to find more enjoyment in general, and especially in new things. Do whatever you like though, again, no one is forcing anything on anyone.

My main point in this is not that you should like it (I have my own reservations) or that it's going to meet our expectations and be better than the Lord of the Rings movies. I highly doubt that's even possible anyway. But rather, I hope that as a community we give it a chance to be something new worth considering. Once it's out, it you hate it, then so be it. Fair enough. But let's not hang the accused before the trial. Let's see what it can show us. I think the show's creators and Tolkien are owed that much, regardless of Amazon's involvement. No, in SPITE of Amazon's involvement.

We helped each other to get dressed faster, in case someone would knock on the door. Thanks God it did not happen. Now we were sitting across from each other and I saw how Ricky’s expression changed drastically.

“I actually wanted to talk to you about something that I’ve been kind of afraid to say.”

“You know you can tell me anything. What is it about, Ricky?”

“I hate the fact that no one knows about us and we have to hide our love behind close doors. Maybe we can tell the boys, for the start. If you want to, of course.”

For a second I thought how funny this situation is. In the past, he was the one that wanted to keep us a secret, and now he wants the whole entire world to know. I thought about it for a second before I would give him an answer.

“I think it’s a great idea. At least our close friends deserve to know.”

Ricky took me in his arms and kissed me passionately. This was his way of thanking me for giving him exactly what he wanted. At that moment, I forgot about every bad thing in my life, focusing only on the man who was holding me tight in his arms.

It was the time for Motionless in White to leave for tour, and I had mixed feelings about it. Of course, I was happy for them, but I hated the fact that Ricky would not be here with me for the next few months.

We also prepared for the big reveal of our relationship. This was the best moment to announce what we hope it was a secret.

Every time one of my bands would leave for tour, I would meet with them to wish them good luck. I always felt we were all a big family, as cliché as it sounds, and I tried my best to show each one of them how much I cared.

It was time for them to leave, so I put my phone in a place where no one could see it. Of course, I wanted to have this moment forever with me.

I went first to hug Justin and then Ryan. Vinny came running to me as a happy little child to get his hug. When it came to Chris, he looked down at me for a second, before he would get me up and spin me around.

“Okay, just put me down now!”

“It’s not my fault you’re so little.”

Then it was Ricky’s turn, and it was our plan to leave him last. We wanted to be sure we had their attention.

I hugged him, as I did the others, and then backed off a little just so I could see his face.

“Good luck, Ricky.”

“Thanks.”

Then he kissed me, right in front of them. They were all shocked and speechless, besides Vinny.

“I knew it! I told you there was something going on with them!”

“How did you know?”

“Are you kidding me? I lost count of how many times I saw you talking in a corner or looking at each other like you were about to fuck right in that spot.”

That was unexpected, and we were all laughing, except Chris. His eyes had no emotion in them while he was looking at me. That’s when he left us to go on the bus, without saying a word.

I left Ricky’s embrace, telling him I had to do this alone.

“Chris? Can we talk?”

“For how long has this been going on?”

“A couple of months… but officially together for almost 2 months.”

“I thought I was your best friend, Lexus. What happened with that?”

“And you still are! But I was afraid you’ll be judging me for choosing Ricky once again.”

“If he would’ve been the same, I would clearly do that. But he is a good friend of mine now, and I know he will never hurt you again. Are you happy with him?”

“Yes. I’ve never been happier. Blair loves him too.”

“Wow, you moved pretty fast with that. I guess Corey isn’t happy with this whole situation.”

“No, he’s not. But I really don’t care. Both Blair and I deserve someone that would make us feel loved. It’s not our fault he couldn’t do it.”

“That’s true. You know, I hated you for a second back there when you two kissed. I truly had no idea, and it was clear it was happening for some time.”

“Believe me that I really wanted to tell you, but I couldn’t. I was afraid he might leave me again.”

“And now you’re sure it’s not going to happen?”

“Yes. Even though we haven’t told each other the magical three words yet, I know the feeling is there.”

“Then I’m happy for you both.”

He hugged me and put his head on mine, and that’s how Ricky found us. The big smile on his face reflected mine, knowing that we both needed to share our secret with the ones we love.

The next 3 months passed very slowly, and I tried everything to keep myself busy. I was more present at the studio than ever, and no one thought this could even be possible. The only times I was home was when Blair was there, keeping me company. I never thought she would miss Ricky as much as I do, but we tried to communicate when he got some free time.

I was so happy for them, the tour was going amazing. Almost every show was sold out, and some venues called me to ask if I could add some more dates to the list. Even though I didn’t want to have to wait even more, I asked them every time what they thought about this idea. I was glad to hear them all say they have enough shows to perform for the moment.

Today I felt like I needed a day for myself, staying at home, watching a film, maybe reading a book. I need to live for myself for at least a day, not thinking about how much time I have to wait for Ricky. And I couldn’t choose a better day, as Blair was going to sleep at one of her friends tonight.

I decided to go for a book first and to leave the film for later. While I was searching for something to catch my eye, I heard my phone ring. A big smile appeared on my face, thinking that Ricky made some time for me. But when I checked, I saw it was actually Corey.

“Hi, Lexus. I hope your day is going well.”

“Um, hi? It was until you called. What do you want?”

“I just wanted to ask if you received any specific letter?”

“Why? What is going on?”

“Just go and check. I’m sure it’s there already. I told you that you’re going to regret it.”

And with that, he ended the call. My heart was racing as crazy as I went to the kitchen. I got a lot of letters to look at on the table, but not one second I thought something important was on there. While I was moving them like crazy, my attention was caught quickly by a sender: the courthouse. I opened the letter as fast as I could, and I tried to find the important part of why was this sent to me.

“No! You can’t do this to me!”

I started to cry uncontrollably, and my hands were shaking, making the letter fall on the ground.

Corey wants full custody of our daughter.
