Hello! Sorry for the question, I tried to seek the answer myself but I couldn't find any explanation unfortunately. What is 'complex contact', exactly? I understand no contact and all that, but how does complex contact work? What does it mean? Thank you

It's basically just having varying opinions depending on the situation

I find that anti-contact lacks too much nuance. I think if you're going to call a type of relationship unethical, there's got to be an actual reason why the individual can't consent effectively, and anti-contact discussions often just end at 'they're x years old' rather than continuing to say 'and this is why they're not cut out to consent in this situation'

I also think that because the world has different legal ages of consent and different ideas of ethical age gaps, it's arbitrary to just pick an age and call it the universal age of consent and apply it to every situation. Especially when people take the American AoC and apply it to everywhere

I'm coining a new complex contact sublabel: research contact 🔏🔍

Research contact is when you use science backed knowledge to inform your contact stance and build capacitative tests to assess your ability to consent to a given scenario. It's also about contributing to research on paraphilias and running safer experiments with the RACK model. This contact stance promotes doing nuanced research instead of throwing arbitrary terms at people without an explanation. It rejects legalism as a framework due to its inconsistency with acknowledging science and reproducible ethics (as opposed to the relative morality of the state)

I tend to be cautious so I follow anti contact stances in a lot of scenarios in case something goes wrong, but i feel like there is still a lot of nuance left out of the picture when it comes to contact discourse.

Research contact acknowledges that legalistic frameworks of consent only work in the context of a hierarchical society while also acknowledging that there are some scenarios where consent cannot be given even without the framework of a state. We need something better.

This contact stance is about expanding our knowledge on how to create expanded frameworks of ethical consent and about engineering a society where consent is prioritized.

it basically means that my stance of whether contact is appropriate or not when it comes to paraphilias is a bit more complicated than can be summed up with pro, neutral, or anti!

to be a bit more specific what it means for me:

if a para is involving something where gaining consent is not nessicary, (like inanimate objects or something centered around oneself), than contact is something i fully support!

if a para involves an actual person seperate from yourself, than i also support contact for that! but only with explicit consent from the involved parties. (ex: contact for somnophilia would be completely fine as long as the sleeping person has provided explicit aware consent beforehand)

if a para involves something where informed consent is impossible to obtain, than i am very strictly anti-contact. (think animals, children, corpses, and anything similar)
