This reminds me of Cosette's arc from a lost child to a true lady beloved by many
Cosette spent her earlier years in the slums, then she was kidnapped and was so horrifically enslaved that she virtually nearly forgot how to read, write or even what compassion is like, and oh, she nearly DIED of frostbite when Valjean came to save her entire existence
It was the love from Valjean and those nuns and gardeners in Petit Picpus that saved her, it was the sisterly love from her convent school friends that helped save her. Throughout such love and care, Cosette is reminded of what true compassion is like, how to properly function like a human being ( relearning how to read, write and also recovering from severe malnutrition ). She went from a rather quiet and withdrawn kid who wears gloves and hooded cloaks even in indoors, to a healthier kid who likes to hang out with her friends and let her visual arts talent blossom
And because she was so sick when she first came to the Convent, Coserte needs special medical attention to her physical health all throughout her convent school years, not to mention the thrice a week therapy sessions in her 8 years there just to help her function like a regular human being once again
Cosette never forgot those horrible experiences thar nearly broke her. In fact, it made her more merciful
Which is another reason why her becoming a beacon of light and hope to many in her post convent Eras to be so important
She never internalized her suffering and instead, channeled her healing and grief to offer love and compassion around
She was saved by an army of people who loved her. In turn, she helped save many others from despair with her compassion
I think Cosette is one of the greatest characters ever written - she literally becomes a human embodiment of compassion and a reminder to us of the importance of hope
Also because of her severe sickness and malnutrition, Cosette becomes stunted in her growth and she was one of the shortest girls of her convent school classes
By the time she turned 16, she has grown into a lovely and healthy young lady with a curvy figure and rosy cheeks, albeit of petite stature ( cuz of the stunted growth thing )
When she first came to the Convent, Cosette was often virtually attached to hip to Valjean, and later on her convent school friends and certain nuns
Later on she came out of her shell more
Post June Rebellion Cosette eventually becomes a socialite who is passionate about her art patronage snd charitable efforts, and actually enjoys running the household she has with Marius. She came to live a life that she has been dreaming of since she was a child, and she eventually has a real home with the one she loves, after all ( just as she has wished )

i think a lot of people have never been in a truly desperate situation but think they have, and this causes them to pass really harsh judgment on people who made bad choices when either irrational or having no good choices to pick instead, and i really wish people could get some fucking self-perception and work on their compassion skills and not fucking do that as much anymore
#jack facts#people be banging on about empathy this empathy that#and like sure maybe people have a measurable capacity for it but i can tell you what#that sure as fuck don't mean any fucking one of them ever bothers to make use of it when it matters lol#and i mean on the other hand it's hard to conceptualize how you would feel going through something you've never experienced before#i just wish people would be AWARE of the fact they don't know!#or like that there's a difference between ''i can't afford anything but instant ramen'' and ''i can't get any food or water''#or a difference between being freaked out by spiders and having clinical arachnophobia#or a difference between ''my loved one is sick and i'm really worried about them'' and ''my loved one is dying in front of me''#etc etc etc etc etc#anyway the longer i live the more i'm convinced that empathy is a garbage concept#and actually a more reliable way to act with true compassion is through at least some capacity for relative objectivity#the ability to say ''i don't know how that feels and i cannot understand it through comparison'' and to be able AND WILLING#to take people's self reports on their feelings thought processes or lackthereof in good faith and with sympathy#and also the ability to acknowledge that doing a bad thing for good reasons does not negate the bad thing being bad#but also should and does change what consequences are appropriate and/or most effective#and also like............... things people do in desperation or other irrational states do not represent Who They Are As A Person#or what it's like to hang out with them in a day to day situation#another thing i keep getting more and more aware of is like. if y'all can't even handle an irrational or impulsive choice that does harm#done by an otherwise ''good'' person under short term desperate situations#that they then do their best to reduce the harm of after the situation is over#i can not even imagine how absolutely unforgiving you must be of anyone who has delusions#and i mean real delusions and real psychosis not the hyperbolic babytalk version lol#like i don't think most of you even know what the fuck a delusion even is the way you act about things as simple & straightforward as like#fear. hunger. pain.#absolutely fucking exhausting

What happened to Butch that he is uncomfortable with humans so much?
Is it more like he's desensitizing himself to do his job?
he wasn't raised around them that much
i was thinking this is a world where all the monsters have been on the surface for a while, or were never exiled, so there are communities that are exclusively monster without humans present.
he was raised on a commune/farm where families of monsters lived together, and he eventually moved out when he was around 17-19 and moved into another area away from home, one that had a mixed population.
he was wholly unfamiliar with humans at the time he moved. at most he'd only seen them arrive at the farm to buy/sell product.
i'm still trying to figure out why exactly he's so uncomfortable around them, but if u were to live on a sheltered commune and thrusted yourself into crime filled city life, you'd probably obtain Issues
like i said he has his prejudices, so he's more apt to distrust humans than monster kind, simply because of how he grew up.
over the years, he learned how humans worked and thought for the most part, not out of kindness and understanding, but more of just of a way to communicate and deal with them.

sometimes I like to think that maybe there is an older version of me who has different problems and understands why I was the way I was and is able to have pity for this version and maybe would come back and sit next to me if she could. I'd like for there to be a sexy 40 year old version with silver streaks in her hair and glasses. I'll probably be obsessed with myself if I get that old. I've always wanted to look like the one random lady general from the first 30 minutes of any star wa rs movie

I don't ever plan on joining any kind of organized religion, because i already know that the stuff i believe won't mesh with any specific one. Um. So thanks but no thanks !
#horse.txt#i believe everything has a soul#reincarnation is real#theres no afterlife (good or bad)#so existence isn't about earning your way into a vip club in the sky#it's about collecting as many experiences as possible#good and bad big and small#kindness is natural and so is cruelty--all creatures will be inclined towards one or the other and theres no way to change that fact#so its best to just focus on whatever you can manage. no one is required to try to change the world for the better#that is an opt in activity. the natural way to live is to seek your own happiness--so if thats all you can manage#then just do that#organized religion has never worked for me; i grew up going to christian churches and i hate it#and even doing group pagan events feels off and disingenuous to me--and its strictly a Me thing its not to do with the religions themselves#though i do genuinely hate christianity with a fiery burning passion that grows with every passing day#i do not care that not all Christians are 'bad' because its becoming increasingly obvious to me that even still#being Christian Keeps those people from being as good as they COULD have been#'hate the sin love the sinner' or you could just learn to have compassion for your fellow man and quit being a debby downer#sins don't fucking exist theyre just activities that you don't like. just say thats what it is. applying morality to everything under#the sun is just semantics. you are wasting our time when we could LITERALLY be outside eating fruit and watching the clouds#grow up#sorry didnt mean to get aggressive my train of thought just does whatever sometimes

Hulk Sucks He's An Edgy Allegory For How You're A Monster Because You're Abused Because You're Crazy That Edgelords That Aren't Really Crazy Love But Either To Pretend How Cool They Are Or Because Wow Look At Him Punch Stuff I Don't Actually Care About The Character But I Will Pretend I Do If The Opposition Is Wokeness Grr I Want To See This Power Up And That Power Up For Hulk I Don't Care A Single Bit About The Story I Just Want Cool Fight Scenes!!!!
By That Logic Tbh She Hulk Is The Finest If Not Bestest So Is Captain Marvel Is Punching Things Is All That Matters They Have You Covered That Is No Wonder The Studios Keep On Doing This Because When They Did Otherwise They Were Hated That Isn't That Hulk People Want To See They Want The Cool Hulk With All His Power Ups Being Super Cool And Don't Accept She Hulk Because She's A Woman And They Only Accept A Man Simple As That. Nothing Intelligent Or Smart About That. Meanwhile Spins Into Picture The Poison Superhero Movies Are Aswell As The Propaganda They Showcase When Indeed Looking At Them Intelligently. Hulk Is Called Bipolar He's Called Explosive Disorder How Can The Did Character Be Replaced With So Many Words The Unaccurate Did Character The One Dimensional That Pretends To Be Dimensional The Thing That Makes Hulk The Girlfriend And The Father So Simple So Unintelligent Giving All The Depth For Just Banner. Almost Good. Falls Flat The Second He's Broken For Being Crazy For Having Trauma When All The Violence Torwards His Kind In Real Life Is Justified By The Narrative When The Things He's Supposed To Be Are Actually Done So Terribly. When His Girlfriend Is Pretty Much Just A Tool Not Someone He's Really Interested In. What His Father Represents...
The Overfocus On Being Cool In Such Intelligent Narratives Is Indeed Terrible. There Was Never Anything Smart Or Good About The Mcu And The Modern Formula Is The Same One The Main One The What The Audiences Love Seeing. All The Hate Only Because Of Woman Because Of Black Man Because The Man Took The Back Seat.
That's Clear To See.
They Didn't Care Before.
They Only Care Now Because Woman Because Black Because Gay Because Asian...
Simple As That Nothing Else. Obvious To See.
What A Pussy.
I Want To See That If Anything.
Abuser.
Bigot Waste.
I Didn't Do Shit.
Antiwoke Waste.
Simple As That.
These Stories Were Always Terrible At The Themes They're About Capitalism What Always Should've Been Included For Certain And These People Only Fighting Against Capitalism Being The Only Answer The Only Representation.
But Everything's A Power Fantasy Where Nobody Dies Or When They Do You Move On Until The Next Shocking Death And Repeat.
Numerous Dead Characters Woman Children That Were Never Used.
Even Dead Villains Unimportant People That Once Livened Up The World.
A Sick World Always Moving Always Not Mattering.
Girlfriend Nothing But A Tool To Replace Not A Human That If Dead Would Matter Without Being Generic. Something Actually Intelligent. Where The Woman Watching Can Say I'm Glad She Died That Was Really Powerfull.
Empowerment Is Good Aswell Important Part Being That Must Be Emotional Instead Of How Cool And Powerfull This One Is Because They Have Superpowers While Everyone Else Is On The Background Instead Of A Core Piece Of The Story.
This Also Means Early Spiderman Did Feel Different Afterall... There... That Really Does Feel Like At First The Daily Life Is What Was Really Important.
But The Audience They Never Wanted To See That... They Wanted To Watch Powerfull People Punch Bigoted Stereotypes... They Don't Want To Think... And Because They Don't They Become Antiwoke So Easily Only Wanting Back That Feeling Of Being A Bigoted Standard Now Unrelatable That's A Woman. Unrelatable Because The Man Is Nice Instead Of Punching Things.
There's A Real Reason The Characters Never Move On. The Audience Doesn't Want To See Them Be Happy. The Audiences Only Want To Watch Them Brood And Lose Another Girlfriend. They Don't Want Batman To Kiss Catwoman Have A Daughter And End His Story. If They Don't Want To Be Smart About Things... Then There's Nothing Smart About Them... Therefore Those Genuienly Smart... We Should Not Bother With Those Below Us Simple As That.
Meanwhile How To Make This Shit Better? Make All Those Unimportant Characters Deep Too. Usually A Superpower Represents Something Deeper That Being The Reason To Give Them. That Being The Reason A Character Like Gwen Being Spiderman Doesn't Work Because That Isn't Her Character But His. She Is Spiderman She Isn't Really Gwen. The Gwen That Died. Not The Same One. That Is That Gwen That Girlfriend Character That Should Be Handed This Depth To Make The Narrative More Powerfull By Default Preventing The Utter Laziness That Is Just Fridging Them Something A Deeper Character Often Doesn't Experience But Sure Can If A Misogynist Writer Gets Their Hands On Them!!

I want an opportunity to live a safe life without wars.
Hello,
My name is Reham Tayseir, I am 23 years old.I write to you from the heart of suffering, destruction, hunger, and displacement in Gaza. My life was beautiful and normal, full of hope, dreams, and hard work until the war came and destroyed everything.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Before the war, I was studying Public Relations and Media at Al-Aqsa University in Gaza, and I was also working in design and editing for a company in Gaza. I had many wishes and dreams. I lived a simple but beautiful life and dreamed of a bright and beautiful future. But the war changed everything for the worse. My university was destroyed,

I lost my job, my house was destroyed, I lost family members, and I lost everything and became homeless.

I was displaced from northern Gaza to the south, thinking it was a safe place, but there is no safe place in Gaza; everything around us was destroyed and became rubble. Every day we live in a nightmare, with no opportunities for education or work, and I suffer from poverty, loss, hunger, and homelessness.

I am now looking for an opportunity to live in a safe place outside the Gaza Strip, but this is very costly, and I am in dire need of your support and assistance. I want to provide a better future and a dignified life for myself my family.I believe that humanity and compassion still exist and that someone will respond to my painful voice. Every donation, no matter how small, will have a significant impact on my life. Your donations will help cover all the travel costs for me, my mother, and my father to live in a safe and stable place where there is no hunger, fear, or destruction, to give myself and my family a new life full of hope.Thank you from the bottom of my heart for supporting me and my family and standing with us in these difficult times. I believe that goodness still exists and that someone shares our hope for a better life.Thank you for considering supporting me and my family. I am grateful for any help you can provide.

Hello, my name is Ahmed Qandeel from North Gaza, I have ambitions, dreams and a love for life like any young person in the world. I support my family of 15 after my father was martyred in the cursed war that destroyed everything, but it seems that I will not be able to achieve my dream due to the brutal war on the Gaza Strip that completely destroyed our home, and despite the cruelty of the war, we did not leave North Gaza under inhumane conditions. We have suffered from illness, cold, hunger and drinking polluted water for more than 11 months, and we have suffered greatly from the loss of friends and relatives who were killed in the war for 330 days.
I appeal to you, the international community, to help. I have started a GoFundMe campaign with the goal of raising $20,000 to enable me and my family to find safety in Egypt. Evacuation fees change from time to time; we currently expect a cost of between $4,000 and $5,000 per person. Any additional funds raised will go to support my immediate needs and those of my family. There are many obstacles that we will face on the other side, and I hope that we can make things a little easier for us. I would like to share with you the situation now that the war has intensified. We are fine and safe, but life has become very difficult around us now, people are suffering more and losing their loved ones every day. As a family, we have literally lost everything we own, our homes. Hello! I am reaching out because my family and I are in a really difficult situation, and any contribution you can make to get us evacuated from Gaza means a lot to us - every donation brings us closer to safety and a new beginning. If you can click the link below to help or share it with others who might want to support us, it will make a huge difference in our lives. Thank you for your compassion during this difficult time! We have lost the most precious thing we have, my father, but we are trying to stay optimistic thinking about the evacuation and today we heard good news that the borders might open soon and we are praying that this is true. Once we are evacuated we will try hard to rebuild a small part of what we lost in Gaza. If we can achieve our ultimate goal,
https://gofund.me/68daab3e
we will have the money to start a business to support our entire family. We want to be able to start over and not suffer anymore in Egypt. If everyone can help us with a small donation to achieve our ultimate goal, we will be able to rebuild our lives after everything was destroyed. All the positive words cannot express how generous you are in sharing my posts to inform other donors about the people of Gaza who are still suffering from the terrible conditions caused by the unjust war on Gaza. Please continue to support the just cause in the world either by donating directly or by sharing the link to other media. Do not hesitate to help people in their difficult and miserable times until the dark days are over.

can I just say. I grew up in Trinidad. I miss the trans women :( it's changed. I wish they'd remember.
For those just looking in, this is a reference to a book I just read called Going to Trinidad, which is nonfiction with the summary:
"For more than four decades, between 1969 and 2010, the remote former mining town of Trinidad, Colorado was the unlikely crossroads for approximately six thousand medical pilgrims who came looking for relief from the pain of gender dysphoria. The surgical skill and nonjudgmental compassion of surgeons Stanley Biber and his transgender protege Marci Bowers not only made the phrase “Going to Trinidad” a euphemism for gender confirmation surgery in the worldwide transgender community, but also turned the small outpost near the New Mexico border into what The New York Times once called “the sex-change capital of the world.”"
The book explores the realities of this, as well as some of the patients who had varying experiences with earlier iterations of gender confirmation surgery and the medical system around that. One of the things it talks about is the erasure of this history, and I can definitely understand how that would feel for someone who actually lived through the transition. One of the reasons queer history is so vital to share is because of things like this, if the town had its way, it might have disappeared from the collective memory.

Questions for Crafting Problematic Characters
Sure, let's simplify and add some guiding questions to help you navigate the complexities of writing problematic characters:
Understanding Your Character's Mind: Dive into your character's thoughts and feelings. What makes them tick? What fears or desires drive their actions? How do their past experiences shape who they are today?
Looking at Past Hurts: Think about any past traumas or tough experiences your character has faced. How do these experiences affect how they behave now? Do they have unresolved issues that come up in their actions?
Considering Society's Impact: How does the world your character lives in affect them? Do they follow the rules or rebel against them? Are there societal norms they struggle with or don't agree with?
Thinking about Power and Privilege: Does your character have power or privilege in certain situations? How does this affect how they treat others? Do they realize their privilege, or are they blind to it?
Exploring Different Identities: What parts of their identity are most important to your character? How do aspects like their race, gender, or sexuality influence their behavior? Do they face discrimination or stereotypes because of who they are?
Dealing with Right and Wrong: Are there times when your character has to make tough decisions? What moral dilemmas do they face? Do they always do what's right, or do they sometimes make mistakes?
Giving Your Character Control: Does your character have control over their own life? How do they make choices and deal with the consequences? Do they have the power to change, or are they stuck in their ways?
Seeing Through Different Eyes: Whose perspective is the story told from? How does this affect how readers see your character? Do readers understand why your character does what they do, or are they left guessing?
Writing with Respect and Responsibility: Are you being respectful to the people or groups your character represents? Have you done enough research to understand their experiences? Are you telling their story in a way that's honest and fair?
Exploring Big Ideas: What themes or messages do you want your story to convey? How do your characters, especially the problematic ones, help explore these ideas? Are you starting conversations about important issues?
In short, understanding your character's past, their place in society, and their moral compass can help you write them more authentically. Remember to approach sensitive topics with care and to give your characters room to grow and change.
