The first image shows a graveyard that we saw in the background when actors Charlie and YN were walking down a path, itās the same one from the LWYMMD music video. When they were on a date at Olive Garden (which was included in NBNC and this song has a rep feel to it) YNās phone has new yearās day playing and one of the rings on her hand is a snake ring. The black and white colour scheme of the heart on the building is the same as the reputation colour scheme. The TS written in the sand was first thought to be a Debut (Taylorās Version) hint but after the overpowering reputation hints perhaps it means reputation (Taylorās Version). There was a bracelet in the background of YN and Charlieās kiss in the mv (which took place in YNās bedroom) where in the background there was a black bracelet among the pink colour scheme that said āREPā. The paper on Charlieās desk littered with kisses from YN had lyrics to So It Goes⦠on it.

Was rewatching the first ep and I thought it was such a cute detail- there was a shot of Ai's old apartment and u could see she has those foam puzzle carpet tiles near the crib! They are also in Aqua and Ruby's colors + white! š„ŗ And now I'm just thinking about Ai buying this and setting it all up for the twins. Sobbbb
ISN'T IT SO FUCKING CUTEEEE š That first apartment of hers is honestly my favourite... it's the one that feels the most like her, if that makes sense? Idk, it just has a lot of warmth and personality to it and I can so easily imagine her puttering around it lol.
TBH, the anime did a lot of really interesting things with the designs of her homes... there's a lot of really cute characterization happening in the little details. Like, not only is all Aqua and Ruby's stuff colour coded for them but when they're small enough to cosleep with Ai, both of them have these adorable little flower (star?) pillows to snooze on...
(forgive the scrunkly cap, i had to adjust the lighting cos you can't see it too well otherwise).
Another little detail I really love is that if you keep an eye on the backgrounds of her various apartments, you can spot the star sand that Ryosuke gave her always somewhere pretty prominently in the front room - she was telling the truth when she said she treasured it. In fact, in that first apartment of hers, it's on a shelf beside two toothrottingly adorable photos of the twins which says a lot about how precious it was to her.

Consistency of objects and furniture through all her homes is another little detail I really like about the anime...! It can be harder to spot in motion, but Ai actually takes a lot of the appliances and furniture from her first apartment to her second one, like anybody would when moving.
A bunch of her kitchen appliances are the same and you can tell it's the same TV and speakers, too. And that kind of scrunkly plant from the first apartment also comes with her! She just moves it to her rehearsal space.
Interestingly, all these things are completely absent from the final apartment we see her in - that uber bougie penthouse. It's a big part of what contributes to making it feel so weirdly cold and impersonal even though the woods are all such dark, warm colours - it's because the space has absolutely nothing of Ai herself in it.
Also a great touch - we only ever see the apartment at night and the skyline is tinted super green, which makes it come off as kind of unnatural and unsettling. It really piles on that feeling of this not being a space that Ai is meant to occupy. It doesn't suit her - and maybe I'm reading a little too much into it, but the stiff-backed way she sits in the chair - at the very edge of it, no less! - contrasting the say Saitou is pretty comfortably flopped all over the sofa really gives the impression to me that she didn't feel comfortable there at all.


also; this was going to be a tag ramble but it got stuck in my brain so it's going in the main post but. Man. There really is a Vibe about the fact that she's sat on the chair at all come to think of it. Again, possibly overthinking it, but perching on a chair like that really feels to me like something a guest would do, not someone pulling up a seat in their own home to watch tv. Especially when there's all that room on the sofa - plenty of space for her to have sat by Saitou even with Ruby still in her lap and Aqua at her side.

Getting so very close to being finally caught up. š«” Iām still in the book clubs dust, but if I squint, I think I can almost see you guys! Apologies to anyone that might see this, that mightāve already previously (and punctually!) shared a sentiment that I spent any amount of time reinforcing in my own posts. I havenāt skimmed the book clubās tag so far, just because I have this brain impediment where ifĀ I see someone else has already mentioned something I think, ā...oh excellent! Now I neednāt bother!ā, only, that everyone is so thorough that if I did go ahead and look at them, and saw everyoneās thoughts, Iām sure Iād find I had nothing left to speak on. A serial liking of all book club posts, coming soon to a notif near you, honestly. Ā
Some weensy Phil bullets: mostly that well, I persist in representingĀ Team Alec (only until a certain long-legged Minister appears, of course), because here is a fellow who would at least find the mix-up of Philās letter postscripts āfunny.ā This puts him eons and miles and worlds ahead of Alonzo imo... a sense of humour is so necessary! Ā
Speaking of Redmond football, an insignificant matter that is once again very much nonsense and not particularly worthy of spending any largeĀ amount of much time reflecting on, yet remains a great area of interest for me personally... guys, what do we reckon the Redmond Football mascot was? Team name? I know thereās future canon abbreviation of Redmond students as āReds,ā but a colour is hardly a sufficient team name, nor do I really think itās meant to be taken as such, and listen, no one even think of mentioning the stinking Cleaveland Browns football team to me, lmao. Ā
āThat Gilbert of yours.ā + āoutraged Anneā AIR KISS to these lines specifically. Ā
āBut Sloane was blissfully ignorant; he thought he was quite a fine fellow to be walking with two such coeds, especially Philippa Gordon, the class beauty and belle. It must surely impress Anne. She would see that some people appreciated him at his real value.ā Oh, Charlie. I constantly waffle between feeling pity for Charlie, the butt of many-a-joke, and then also feeling that wellllllll his ego is a little bit exaggerated perhaps - although I suppose we get a clearer sense of that later on. Since all of Avonlea knows that Gilbertās dead-gone on Anne, to the point of pubic heckling in a Charlottetown newspaper, we must recognise that in Charlieās mind, heās in active competition with Gilbert, who has certainly loved Anne the longer. Not an ounce of discernable bro-code anywhere. Ā Ā
Gilbert quoting some Bret Harte verses to Anne. This boy might not have a propensity for writing original poetry, but his memorisation and ability to drop a line or two so easily? Heās got a romantic soul, for sure. In a lot of ways, between him and Anne, itās actually Gilbert thatās the romantic one (also see: keeping the rose that fell from her hair, back at the White Sands recital), and Anne the steady practical. Ā
āGilbert, who could not connect the idea of sorrow with the vivid, joyous creature beside him, unwitting that those who can soar to the highest heights can also plunge to the deepest depths, and that the natures which enjoy most keenly are those which also suffer most sharply.ā This is heavy. But more than anything, something I very much enjoy about Maudās work is her ability to maintain core characterisation. I see this line, and I also think of how much it (later) casts light onto Gilbertās struggle to really relate to some of Walterās Anneishness. Thereās a wonderful yin and yang balance between the slinky black cats and golden retrievers of the world, and often enough they are deeply attracted to each other, but there are some differences that can never been fully reconciled. Ā
The matter of Spofford Avenue! Again the scholars have already done a ton of the legwork, and lots of preliminary digging into Maudās journals, picking out real-life links between between her time in Halifax and how it corresponds to Anneās⦠and theyāve decided, very logically, that Spofford Avenue was based on Young Avenue.

At the time, Halifax was one of the richest cities in Canada and building on Young Avenue, definitely reserved for prominent families and the wealthiest, apparently came with enough beautification restrictions to satisfy even the choosiest A.V.I.S. member, only of a few of which I can easily remember⦠that power poles were banned on the basis of being āunsightly,ā for starters. I know thereās a whole essay dedicated to the ārealā Kingsport somewhere, and if I can find it instead of just my jumbled notes & misc. folder on it, Iāll be sure to share it in case anyoneās interested. š§ I also recall that a very real tobacco ļæ¼king called Alexander Hobrecker (āHobrecker Houseā) did indeed make residence on Young Avenue, though whether or not he really had an affinity for well-made country quilts, is anyoneās guess.

Dress Codes Explained
I feel like Iāve created enough templates for your mind development, routines, habits, etc. Iām getting bored with putting out the same content in a different manner so now Iām going to start switching up my content. Iām going to focus more on how one can carry themselves, socialise, etc etc.
My first article under this segment āCultural Educationā here will be about dress codes. You will find this segment on my pinned post.
Culturally, dress codes differ from one another. The western world is generally more tolerant towards showing of skin, for instance; but if you were to attend formal events in Asia and the Middle East, Iād highly, highly recommend you opt for a more modest look.
This is a very brief breakdown on what a woman can wear and when.
Images are for examples only.
1. Casual
Meaning: low-key, but not like you just woke up.
* Sundress
* Long/ midi skirt
* Tailored pants or nice jeans (not ripped, distressed, acid wash- plain and simple)
* Tailored shorts
* Plain T-shirt (no graphics), polo t-shirt, turtleneck
* Button-down shirt

2. Dressy
Meaning: no jeans, generally use of lighter colours
* Skirt (not bum short)
* Tailored trousers
* Dress
* Co ord sets
* Jumpsuits
* Sundresses

3. Semi formal
Meaning: dressier than your corporate office job, but more casual than a formal gown.
* LBD (but not too little)
* Maxi skirt
* Cocktail dress

4. Business
Meaning: what a typical office senior person would wear.
* Suit
* Dress (modest; at least knee length; not too short)
* Dress with a jacket
* Blazer and a skirt
* Stockings (optional in summer)
* 3-4 inch heels / loafers / flats

5. Business casual
Meaning: what one would typically wear everyday to a corporate job that does NOT abide by Gen Z clothing (meaning slightly more conservative)
* Skirt, khakis, or pants
* Open-collar shirt, knit shirt or sweater (no spaghetti straps or dƩcolletƩ)
* Dress (again, modest)

6. Black tie
Meaning: formal evening events, generally after 6 pm.
* Formal (floor length) evening gown (avoid slits, too tight dresses)
* Dressy cocktail dress

Costume meta 8x01, 8x02 & 803
Life is incredibly busy for me at the moment, so Iām not able to spend as much time on things like writing Costume meta as Iād like, so, while I am planning on writing a meta for each episode, these are likely to be shorter and I will only be guaranteeing to do Buck and Eddies costumes. Any other character will be entirely dependent on my time and if there is anything interesting to point out! That being said, because Iāve combined the first three episodes into one meta (because they spent most of it in uniform!), it is on the longer side!
So, letās get this season 8 costume meta show on the road!
Last season I pointed out the show was going heavy on the pink colour coding and suggested it was being employed to signal an overarching theme for the season - innocence and naiveté and the loss thereof. This proved to be correct and we saw the show weave stories across the season about innocence and naiveté and we then watched characters experience the loss of those things.
So I was intrigued to see what colour they would be using this season and had been contemplating over hiatus what I thought theyād go with. I regret not making a post about it back then, because my thoughts had been focused on orange, and early indicators suggest orange is indeed the colour theyāre using - along with a second colour - brown.Ā
I have spotted a lot of both colours in both episodes of the season so far, and very often they are using a sort of burnt/rusty orange/brown, that combines both colours Iāll be keeping my eye out for both colours in the upcoming episodes as well.

Examples of it in these opening two episodes that Iāve spotted are;
The light aircraft had orange and brown detailing on the tail.Ā
The truck has a brown logo, the driver who ran up to the car on the highway was wearing an orange check shirt, and his co-driver is wearing brown
Tori and her assistant Sheila are wearing orange and brown and Sheila is wearing brown trousers with and orange check when the bees attack.Ā
Henās jacket has a lot of orange and some brown in the plaid, and Dennyās shirt has a dark orange text on it.
Eddie and Buck are wearing brown shirts and Eddie is wearing an orange hat - the orange balloons and streamers are also fairly dominant in the party decorations.
Denis is wearing a light brown zip front hoodie (he also has his orange prison jumpsuit but Iām not including it as its standard prison uniform and wouldāve been included regardless!)
Tia is wearing an orange/brown shirt under her white and coloured design jacket
Amy the manager of air traffic control is wearing both brown and orange
the toothbrush Dennis makes a shiv from is orange
several crew members on set are wearing brown
the workman who removes the blade fro the firetruck is wearing brown.
Orange means enthusiasm optimism and emotional strength. Itās also a colour of positivity and progressive thinking as well as creativity and success in endeavours! Orange can also be impatient and can also symbolise insincere personalities or intentions.
Brown meanwhile is stable and reliable, honest and supportive. It is also seen as protective and it is the foundation from which new things can grow. It also means honesty, wisdom and strength and it is a dependable colour. It can also have meanings such as loneness isolation and sadness, as well as being seen as boring or dull.
They are two colours that have intertwined meanings and to me this is suggesting an overarching theme for the season of positive stable progression. The idea of letting go of the past and moving forward. Everyones arcās so far this season seem to be setting up the exploration of all our mains having to deal with aspects of their past (or connected to their past) be that something that happened to them or their behaviour, something they havenāt let go of that continues to impact them and that is preventing them from being able to progress further than they have. It feels very much like the show is setting itself up for making some changes to things for season 9 onwards (not saying people are leaving I want to make that clear - just that I think we might see some changes to what roles people fill within the show)
Check Theory
Check theory was out in force in these two episodes as well - and it has yet to fail me! The small aircraft pilot,
the truck driver,
the first passenger we see on the plane (whose shirt also happens to be that rusty orange/brown colour), one of the attorneys in LA, Sheila the PA, Amy the air traffic controller, all wearing check patterns along with Hen and Tommy. If you havenāt read my theory before - you can find it here, but basically check generally means the character will be the one in danger in some way (not always physical, it could be emotional) and in the case of the passenger on the plane - he is a signifier for the entire plane being in peril by virtue of being the first passenger we see.
Henās check came in a scene where we start to see the jealousy she feels towards Chim and Maraās relationship (while Karen isnāt reacting to it at all - beyond seeming happy that Mara is happy) and is foreshadowing the upcoming issues with Hen and Chimās relationship and their fight to get Mara back.Ā the use of two different types of check is perhaps hinting at the fact Hen will be facing issues on two fronts - the Ortiz front and the Chimney/Maddie front. The raw edged denim also helps to play into the idea that Hen is reaching the end of her capacity to deal with things - she is feeling raw and frayed.
Tommyās check is serving a similar purpose - we get a continuation of Tommys dismissive comments when Buck is telling him something about his life and it is clearly foreshadowing the issues and hurdles Buck and him are going to face. Interestingly the colour of the check is hard to figure out - I'm pretty sure its black, but it looks dark green in some moments and navy blue in others. The black and white colouring in a check pattern is giving us hints - telling us that in the case of Tommy things are very black and white - that there is little nuance to his character.
It's telling us what we see is what we get and that all of his behaviour up to this point can be read for what it is and t hat what it is isn't good because of the check. the other thing about black and white is that it suggests a lack of change - things being black and white in costume terms generally means that the character in that moment a a minimum can be read very plainly - they are how they are and how they have always been.
The fact Tommy is wearing it in a scene discussing Gerrard really is implying that things on that front are going to be black and white and that plays into the theory that it is his problematic past at the 118 (that the show deliberately chose not to address last season) is at least one of the issues thatās going to come up this season and that it is a black and white issue - as in not one with grey areas.
Tommy's blue party hat is also pretty interesting, and telling, blue is very much a Buck colour, its one he wears a lot of - far more than any other colour, this, along with the fact the black check on the shirt appears blue or green depending on the lighting and camera angle, fits with my theory that Tommy is meant to not only be similar to Eddie, but also and alt version of Buck. The fact he is wearing an open shirt over a henley also plays into this theory as they are items of clothing associated with Buck (open shirt) and Eddie (henley).Ā
Navy blue as a hat colour is an interesting choice to have Tommy wearing in this scene because it is a colour associated with several things, its supposed to be a symbol of peace, commitment and honesty, as well as authority. It also means fragility, depression, impersonality and coldness.Ā
We saw various shades of navy blue on Buck a lot during his relationship with Taylor - especially during the more fractious periods - moments such as the ily scene - seemingly a moment affirming commitment and honesty, but also revealing the fragility and coldness of their relationship.
So on Tommy it seems to be conveying a similar concept - the juxtaposition of the commitment of Buck and Tommys relationship and the idea that Buck is at peace with himself in relationship terms right now, but it is also revealing the fragility and coldness of the relationship - its supporting the textual clues we get in the scene and setting up Bucks arc for the season and the instability of his relationship with Tommy.
On to Eddie and Buck now we've dealt with the more general costume things!
Iāve already written above about the meaning of brown and how its meaning is stable and reliable, honest and supportive. It is also protective and it is the foundation from which new things can grow. It also means honesty, wisdom and strength. It is a dependable colour. It can also mean loneness isolation and sadness, as well as being seen as boring or dull.
The thing with brown is that it is made up of all of the colours and can therefore have different coloured undertones. In this scene, Bucks shirt is red toned and Eddies is yellow/orange toned and this means we should look to those colours for additional information about the potential meanings.
Eddie
The yellow and orange undertones for Eddie means his brown is connected to communication and enthusiasm as well as the meanings of brown Iāve described above. the meaning that particularly stands out to me in this scene is the idea of support - of being supportive. Itās a theme that plays out in different ways in this scene especially for Eddie and Buck. For Eddie specifically it is the idea of being supportive of what he thinks his son wants - what he i being told his son wants.Ā
Eddie is trying to communicate with Christopher but Chris is not communicating back - Helena is the one that communicates the information we get about Chris - that he is happy in El Paso and has lots of new friends and is visiting the pool a lot etc. Eddie tries to be supportive of what he is being told, despite it making sure his broken heart stays broken - because he thinks itās what Chris wants because it is what heās being told.Ā
We also have eddies orange party hat - picking up the orange undertones to the t-shirt, it emphasises the emotional strength Eddie has to employ to keep persevering with Chris - even when he is getting barriers thrown up at him. Heās being creative - throwing the party in LA even though heās not with Chris - trying to make himself a part of things and show Chris that heās trying to mend the bridge he broke. The orange is also playing the long game with Eddie as well - the lack of orange in the El Paso visuals is telling us that Eddie will be successful in his endeavours - he just needs to be patient and keep trying.
It's also worth noting a couple of things about Eddies clothing - firstly that Eddie is back to wearing slightly oversized tees again - calling back to season 5 and his breakdown and mental health struggles. and secondly the choice of putting him in olive drab cargo pants and his mom in jeans of the same-ish colour (its hard to tell exactly what shade of olive drab they are as the colouring through the computer screen is wildly different!) is an interesting choice - its hinting at where Eddies battles lie - an indication of both going into combat with one another!
Buck
For Buck his brown has reddish undertones (these are much less obvious than the yellows and oranges of Eddies undertones), and there his also the red party hat bringing the red aspect into focus. Red is a symbol of anger, danger, impulsiveness, aggression, passion, sacrifice, and courage.Ā
Again the concept of support comes into play with the brown - Buck supporting Eddie, being a source of strength and stability at his back, as is visually shown with him never leaving his spot behind Eddie (unlike Tommy who moves away and out of camera in both the video call and the way the scene is shot - its costume and directing working in tandem to relay information about Tommy to the audience).Ā
The reddish undertones play into the other aspect of the scene - the conversation (if yo can call it that) between Buck and Tommy - its foreshadowing Bucks anger towards Gerrard later in the episode, and also his impulsive and courageous actions to save Gerrard. I think the honesty and wisdom of brown is also important here as well. Buck may be questioning his motives and actions - if he intended to hurt Gerrard or save him, but the brown is giving him stability and suggests that ultimately he will figure things out in a positive direction.
I do want to quickly talk about the fit of Bucks shirt as well, because it is important in relation to what we've seen with Bucks costuming across the seasons and from the bts pictures we've had from Oliver showing a couple of Bucks costumes for upcoming episodes. The fit of this shirt is really really good on Buck and that is important.
I spoke quite a lot in my season 6 and season 7 meta's about the fit of Bucks clothing - in particular his trousers, but in his tops as well, how we've seen his clothing seemingly shrink and become to tight, right through to ill fitting and slightly oversized clothing.
The wardrobe department have been clearly showing Bucks character growth through the fit of his clothes - to tight and too short in the leg when he's uncomfortable and has outgrown his current situation - playing into the idea that Buck is trying to make himself smaller - make himself fit inside a skin that doesn't really represent or fit him any longer.
Then we've had the other extreme where his clothing is baggy and ill fitting - suggesting he doesn't fit in to the new him he's trying on - it is a perfect way to visually show that Buck is growing but not yet comfortable or at ease with this new version of himself.
His clothing settled into fairly well fitting through the latter half of season 7, and it was really interesting to see which scenes he was dressed slightly oversized or slightly too small in. Interestingly we tend to see clothes being slightly oversized now with Eddie and pushing towards too tight with in Tommy scenes, the ones where there is cross over (such as the greyish brown and light blue vertical stripes which we saw in scenes with both the fire fam and Tommy) we tend to get a good fit.
Right now we're in a period where Buck is the most content within himself that he as been and this brown shirt echoes that. It fits him well and it is a scene which features both Eddie and Tommy. WE know that we're going to see Buck wearing a range of fits of clothing, the up coming golf scene with Gerrard for example has a return of the fit being too tight and too short in the leg- emphasising Bucks discomfort. It will be really interesting to see which way things play out when it comes to costumes soley associated with Tommy, compared with costumes that are connected to Eddie or connected to the wider fire fam. I'm not quite prepared to pin my colours to the mast on this front just yet, but I do think we'll either see a slow shrinkage connected to Tommy and things being sightly oversized when it comes to Eddie - as a way of exploring his diminishing feelings for Tommy and expanding knowledge of his feelings for Eddie, or we'll see the reverse - oversized with Tommy as the relationship starts to run into problems (in much the same way we saw Eddies oversized clothing during his break down in s5 and now again in s8 connecting to Christopher's absence and his struggles with that) and to small with Eddie as a sign Buck no longer fits into the status of their relationship - that his feelings for Eddie don't fit the concept of friend any longer - that they are more than simply friendly.
So yeah - its going to be very interesting to see which way it plays out!
I'm finishing here as I'm already so much later posting this than I intended (thanks tumblr for being a pain and not letting me upload pictures into this post no matter how many times I recreated it - but I won the fight in the end!) hopefully 804's meta won't take so long or be such a technological pain!

Her gaze narrows into a hand-sharpened AM round, drives it through the temptatious pose in her mind, and steps across the line. Your eyes canāt grow wide in time, as she leers closer than she ever let herself when she was āsafeā behind it. Not that she ever wasnāt, as hand-over-shoulder well demonstrates the sheer muscle she has on you.
You figure those AM-rifles must weigh a fuck-ton ā the ones that wouldāve shredded you into a fizzing pile of crimson goo, if she bothered to aim better than precisely the knee-joint.
āYāknow ā doesnāt have to be much,ā you blubber out, trying to shuffle back in measured graduations, so you donāt bob-up into her.
But she follows, leans long over the slim bench.
āW-we could start with a chocolate bar, maybe? Itās been a while. O-or likeāā
Your chinās in her hand. Not hard enough to hurt, but enough to press the back of your head to the wall ā and tell you not to move. She rotates you up, slowly, to meet her.
Does it firmer when you shirk from her without thought.
āHmm,ā she smirks.Ā āSomething sweet?ā
She slips to your cheeks, both of them ā squeezes. You can feel sheās waiting on an answer and thereās only one direction you can move.
You nod, throat choked on your own bluff.
Mwah.
Itās just a peck ā but the rebels areĀ soft,Ā and itās all she needs to bloom you hotter than the skull-white sun you fell under. You try to shake it off; mutter breathlessly,Ā ādelta28Kinrossā¦

Why are we making this project ?
Buckle up because this post is Long-
Background-
Bendy: Dreams Come to Life (abbreviated as DCTL) was the first official Bendy novel released on September 3rd, 2019 by Schoolastic. In 2024, a graphic novel adaptation of this book was released on August 6th (though was leaked on July 24th, 2024) and disappointed a fair amount of fans.
Reception and Criticism- The book itself was poorly paced, having omitted many character actions and focusing mainly on dialogue rather than the artwork which had varying quality throughout. The book also misunderstands multiple character descriptions from the original text and games or ignores them entirely, such as what we see with Bertrum Piedmont and the Ink Demon. Some characters were also whitewashed in the book, such as Jacob, being shown as black in the book but losing his skin colour in the latter half of it, and characters such as Norman Polk and Thomas Connor being made caucasian despite their racial-coding in canon and the books.
Mike D Drama and Scholastic- Around the time the graphic novel released, the co-creator of Bendy, Mike D, had past dramas resurface as well as new ones form. In the past, he answered a question in a Reddit AMA asking whether the game series included any minority or queer characters. His response was that he's "a supporter of anyone pursuing happiness in whatever they identify as" but "characters are defined by what they do, not who they identify as" which seemingly dodged the question. He has also gotten into drama more recently by stating both Norman Polk and Thomas Connor, both characters that many in the fandom read as black due to their voices, treatment by other characters, writing and more, have always been white. His words can be seen below-


On Scholastic's side, they've been revealed to intentionally make characters in graphic novels look different than what their intended designs are. They've been caught stealing artwork, tracing 3D renders and models from fans of primarily the FNAF series as well. The DCTL Graphic Novel itself had other issues, mainly the quality of the artwork varying throughout, the book's artist Alex Arizmendi having a portfolio which shows significantly higher quality artwork as well as the novel's adapter Christopher Hastings having his own higher quality work evident in the FNAF graphic novel series which he worked on. (In order below - artists being told to draw characters inaccurately, Alex Arizmendi's portfolio work and finally, Arizmendi's artwork of characters from the DCTL Graphic Novel)


For Mike D, I believe as the project's host that he simply doesn't understand why people are upset at his decisions and words. He doesn't seem to be malicious regarding minority groups but we want him to listen and understand and hopefully change how he approaches these subjects as a man who's part of the majority.
Given the information we have, it's safe to assume that Scholastic is likely underpaying their artists, and it's clear they don't respect the common artist who doesn't work for them either. They need to be told by their audience that what they are doing is wrong and other people should know of what the company does before buying from them. They have no regard for quality or being humane and that needs to change.

Tell me: Is He Gay or In a Sherwani?
Imposition of western norms in fandom analysis of Asian characters
With the rising popularity of Indian cinema sparked by the recent success of RRR on international platforms as well as the easy availability of multiple streaming services, in addition to the appearance of South Asian characters in prominent roles in western, particularly US media, I've begun to see some concerning 'analysis' posts online. So I thought I'd address something I found common in most of these takes.
Guys, characterizing your blorbos as queer is great and all, love it, but you're making a fundamental mistake by making their clothing choices the foundation for your queer headcanons, especially when it comes to male characters. Do not apply existing western cultural ideas regarding male clothing onto South Asian characters and their dressing please.
The vast majority of the clothes being used by people in various online spaces as 'evidence' of a character being queer(gay or bi mostly) are just normal Indian clothing for men, like daily wear. A top being pink or a character's wardrobe being mostly pastel means absolutely nothing...cos Indian clothing tends to be colourful in general and the tendency to ascribe colours masculine and feminine qualities is considerably less in the subcontinent. I'm not saying it doesn't exist, but generally not a concern.
There's also this pervasive idea that colourful clothing = flamboyance = queer and that itself is something many people have already pointed as a deeply flawed way of thinking and a stereotype. Furthermore, even if you do lean into the archetype of queer men being flamboyant, subscribing to the 'stereotypes exist for a reason don't they?' school of thought perhaps, there's also the fact that ideas of what is considered flamboyant change dramatically across different cultures. What is 'flamboyant' for someone might just be normal for others. Like maybe pink or purple or yellow might be considered too much, unmanly, emasculating etc in the US or something but they're just perfectly normal colours for men to wear in many, many cultures.
It's the 'Is he Gay or European?' principle. Did you characterize this Indian character (or any South Asian character really) as queer because of their canonical behaviour and portrayal, or did you just see their clothing and decide they're queer because being well groomed and having a colourful wardrobe is a character trait you exclusively ascribe to being queer?
Like guys, I like Chaipunk like the rest of you, but if you consider Pavitr queer just because his costume is a lot fancier than the others' (An actual take I've seen multiple times) without taking into account his cultural background....ĀÆ\_(ć)_/ĀÆ
Let me make this clear, I don't think people need a ten page analysis to imagine their fave as queer. Headcanoning a character as queer can have any reason ranging from 'I said so and so it is' to 'this is my light character analysis that makes a masters thesis look shabby' and they're all valid and an integral part of the fandom experience. What I am annoyed at are these so-called 'well-researched' theories that did not make the slightest effort to look into South Asian culture and simply transposed their western bias onto Indian media and confidently make flat out wrong judgements and mislead other people. Clothing based sexual identity determinism is the least of it. That I can at least understand through the lens of a habitual process built through years of analyzing crumbs of queer representation available only through queer coded characters and symbolism such as clothing choices being the only way to see an aspect of yourself portrayed in an aggressively heteronormative media ecosystem. I do that too, because media is tragically heteronormative everywhere. But the rest? Its just straight up misinformation and misrepresentation touted as truth.
Its the same with relationships between men. There are plenty of cultures where skinship between men is not unusual and dynamics and nuances tend to be vastly different from western representations of male friendships. In xianxia and wuxia fandoms you can see this same problem in a different font when outsiders, most often the western side of the fandom, try to apply their own standards and morals onto the original work and try to interpret it through a lens it was never supposed to be interpreted through in the first place, except maybe for comparative analysis. This practice itself isn't a major problem, its natural for people to apply what is familiar to them to try and understand something new. But when this is also accompanied by them foisting their personal interpretation and analysis as the 'correct' one and trying to impose it on the fandom as a whole, it escalates into a powder keg situation as you can imagine.
Again, not saying that western parts of fandoms are the root of all evil or anything like that, gods know how toxic netizens can be. But in this specific situation, where people try to impose western ideals on to non-western content and assumes the universalism of their own principles and value systems? Indeed an issue to be addressed.

hello i would like to ask you about your spreadsheet
i got so excited when i saw this u do not understand. i love talking about my spreadsheet
so basically early last year i got into dc for real and i was like i'm going to read red robin (2009). but then i was like, or i could not do that, and instead of just reading whatever like i do with marvel, i could take advantage of the relatively short block of canon that is post-crisis dc and just... read all of it. and i wanted to log all of the dc issues that i read and record when i read them. why? i don't know. i like lists. so i put both of those things together and set about making this giant, obsessively-chronological reading list.
i started with batman: year one and death in the family, and then i spread out into more stuff -- mainly robin, batman and co, but also titans and jla and such and so on, and then decided i wanted to go back to the 80s catalogue and also read green arrow and green lantern. i read everything up to infinite crisis (2006) and then used that as a starting point to make a second, more functional spreadsheet. so this spreadsheet is actually my second, and eventually the first spreadsheet will get sorted into this one.
i feel like the vertical axis is pretty self-explanatory š sorted by series and issue number and then colour-coded by arc; sometimes multiple issues go together or an arc is only 2 issues and those get collated in grey but not named. there's also a hidden column on the far left for character lists, which is basically if an issue is important for a particular character, it gets highlighted in a corresponding colour (bart allen is green, rose wilson is orange, etc). i don't really use that column much so it's usually hidden. i like to leave myself notes on issues 1) because i am forgetful and 2) so i know which issues i liked most (for later rereading and also so that if i'm looking through back issues at the comic book store, i can go "hey i loved that one a lot"). continuity notes are part of the obsessively-chronological thing i mentioned. mostly it doesn't look this nicely colour-coded and mostly the dates are more sporadic.
i also have a spreadsheet for post-flashpoint canon š i do not have a spreadsheet for marvel because i will never be able to remember all of the marvel comics i've read over the last decade and i'm not even going to try

Clothes Maketh the (Wo)Man (or the colour coding of the Iron Trio)

I saw a post recently wondering about the significance, if any, of the colours our Iron Trio wearsšš¤š§”. It prompted me to go looking. Like everything Complete Fiction seems to do in regard to this show, the choices are careful and deliberate.
Lockwood is black and whiteš¤š¤ He has a business to run and his suited appearance declares that he is prepared to do just that. Heās business like because he has to be. The success of this company rides on his back and the choices he makes. He is ambitious certainly, seen in his constant striving to take Lockwood and Co to the top and in his drive to put them into the public eye, often at the expense of otherās wishes. But itās understandable. He has bills to pay and people (George and Lucy) that rely on him. Even after they successfully square away their debts, Lockwood remains conscious that there are still other bills to pay.
Lockwood presents an adult faƧade to the world. Even Lucy (in the book) is surprised to realise he is scarcely older than her upon first meeting him. But, whilst he may appear an adult, heās still very much a teenager navigating his way through a world where children are dispensable and adults, despite their general uselessness, still call the shots. Itās Lockwoodās sneakers and pink socks that give him away and reveal the teenage boy behind the faƧade. This was such a clever choice on the part of Complete Fiction š They remind us that whilst Lockwood has been forced to grow up too quickly, at heart he is still a teen.
So, black and white. Very simple and clear cut. Except life isnāt like that, is it?Only Lucy has insight into how tenuous his grip on control can be, and we see this in the delightful stairwell scene ššš

šTake a moment everyone- right, where were we?
Ah yes, Lucy and her blue persona (colour not mood). Lucyās blue is a nice foil to the green of the ghostly world they inhabit. Both blue and green are heavily associated with nature. I donāt know what that means here, but itās interesting to ponder.
Blue is traditionally seen as a colour of constancy, loyalty and reliability. She certainly provides this for Lockwood. But itās also a strong colour, hence its traditional association with boys. A practical colour, heavily associated with working, it feeds into Lucyās active strength.
(Some of these ideas came after reading the interesting articleĀ https://www.allure.com/story/beauty-and-the-beast-blue-dresses-in-female-centric-films . Not sure I agree with all of it but certainly food for thought).

Finally, George š§” Orange radiates warmth. George is the only from a stable family background, only leaving because of a burning desire to solve the Problem.Ā
Orange can represent physical comfort, which, when you add it to his cooking prowess completes the picture. Despite taking a while to warm to LucyĀ (understandable when itās just been him and Lockwood for a year) once heās in, heās all in šÆ

It is interesting too that orange is also a complementary colour to blue, meaning that you can argue that George balances Lucy, providing stability for Lockwood.
So, there you have it, my thoughts, nonsensical or not, on the colour coding of our three heroes š§”šš¤
Maybe, just maybe, they were completely random colour choices based on what CF could source. But knowing Complete Fiction, I somehow think not š

Everything was spinning and going to fast. They merely escaped the attacks by Fukuchi. Y/N couldn't help out much except for the fact she didn't contribute much of defense and combat skills.
She was didn't own any ability, just like her brother Ranpo, who was too denial to say he didn't own one too.
They were running through the forest with Poe's book in hand which had her brother trapped.
This was going to much for her, she wanted to live normally for god sake.
It happened so fast.
One moment she was beside Atsushi running away, and the next moment her body lied on the ground beside where Atsushi stood.
She was injured by Fukuchi's sword.
It came ripping through the thin air, and before either of those two could react, the sword pierced through her body and Y/N could react nothing but cough blood as she fell down in the pool of blood that was hers.
Ranpo didn't know what to say
He came out of the book solving the mystery to see his sister, lying on the ground as Atsushi stood still. He caught the light of the sword that reflected in his eyes, knowing damn well what had happened. He dropped on his knees as his body weakened to see his sister's body on the ground.
"Atsushi What happened...?"
"I AM SORRY RANPO-SAN THE SWORD JUS-JUST CAME THROUG-GH AND-D"
"ATSUSHI PICK HER UP WE NEED TO REACH YOSANO......DONT WORRY Y/N"
Ranpo was beyond angry.
Y/N seemed to gain conciseness when they reached near the base, and Ranpo was relieved a little, but his happiness didn't seemed to last long as she took her last breathe almost saying 'take care' right at the entrance, smiling.
Silence.
That was what could they all hear. Eyes diluting, tears streaming down as a silence scream escaped Ranpo, as he stared at his sister, who's soul completely slipped her body, which now was dropped on the ground, where Atsushi regained his human form.
" Tell me this a sick joke you pull Y/N, You know Dazai Loves you back right? Y/N-" Ranpo said, his voice cracking as he spoke.
"Y/N please, wake up you wanted to start a family right? With Dazai, and you even thought so far on picking the colours of the walls for your kid, Please Y/N, you cant throw away all of this you cant-" Ranpo's voice cracked, as he held his sister's body in denial.
Atsushi could only place a hand on ranpo's shoulder as a sign of comfort, unsure of the next motive of either parties.
Ango, Who watched the scene unfold, didn't say much but still shed a tear, knowing well he had to be professional in the battlefield.
Now the problem for Ango was, to convey this message to Dazai.
As the usual time passed, Ango sat once again to decode and code the messages between him and Dazai
Sending the coded Message to Dazai, Ango could only hope that this doesn't change the direction of the war.
Dazai didn't know how to react.
Y/N L/N was dead. The Y/N who he spent time with, who actually cared for him other than his late friend Odasaku , and The Y/N who he never confessed his love to.
"Say Dazai, didn't you hear it yet?" Fyodor smiled, who sat across him in another cube smiling wickedly seeing his enemy in denial.
"If this didn't exist, I would have made sure you didn't see another day" Dazai announced as his head slowly raised up and you could see the maniac beast he held close rise up, little by little just like it had when he made his first kill.
"I will make sure you pay the prize of this act Fyodor Dostoevsky, she will be the last soul sacrificed for this battle."

Your colours might seem off for a number of reasons, itās hard to tell exactly why by just guessing. It can be related to your software/display or directly to your choice of colours.

Ryu, your dissatisfaction with Twisted Wonderland's age rating is very understandable! The game is allegedly a joseimuke game aimed at adult women, especially in light of the fact that this is a gacha game and that adultsāwho earn a regular incomeāwill be the true target market. Trey is, if my memory serves me correctly, one of the most well-liked characters in the Japanese fandom (i remember there used to be a JP poll asking which character in Twist was the most loved). Most likely due to his personality, which again makes sense given that the majority of Twist users are grownups and Trey's portrayal of a character who, despite being a young adult, is quite mature.
Furthermore, even though I realise I'm going to sound like Idia, I detest how the "Normies" entered Nerd/Geek spaces after gaining popularity and then pretended to be uncomfortable with what they saw. You came to OUR space, dude! What did they expect?!

It really is an obvious joseimuke in how the game is written, how the game operates (the gacha system, like you mentioned) + even the type of merch that exists for this game. If you think about it, this is probably the best way to determine the actual target audience of any piece of media: just like Prince of Tennis is technically a classic Shonen Jump series, but all the merch they have is clearly aimed at adult women (purses, perfume, etc).
So yeah, even if that wasnāt the case, calling people predators over shipping themselves with Azul would be a bad thing to do, but in this situation especially itās absurd to call people out for interacting with TWST pretty much the way it was indentedā¦
What you said about the charactersā age and Trey specifically is so true. To be fair, this could be said about any joseimuke-like title with a big ensemble of boys, Prince of Tennis included. All the characters there are 12-15 years old, but god some of them look over 30.
I think it is important to keep in mind the intended age to a degree (= I dislike how the EN translation tries to dance around mentioning the boysā age), and Twst does a good job at keeping these boys authentic when it matters, but it doesnāt mean that people wonāt ship them with other characters or themselves. And no one questions it and no one finds it weird because it isnāt. Itās not that deep, it has nothing to do with how real teens look or act, this is a fantasy in peopleās heads, itās escapism, it so different and so far removed from the regular boring life itās insane. Itās so difficult not to sound like Idia, SO I FEEL YOU ANON.Ā Someone called it the moe factor that some people just donāt get. So I guess it really is about people being normies sometimes lol I wish they would leave already.

Alias (The Bourne Identity AU with Ateez)
Warnings: just a WIP. 1500 words approximately. Blood, medical procedures and light swearing.
Mediterranean Sea-60 miles north of Marseilles.
Aventura fishing trawler
The fishing trawler creaks heavily, tilting haphazardly starboard, continually battered in all directions by the freak midnight storm. The crew of eight men are scattered around in the cabins; some sleeping, some jostled against each other as they attempt a game of poker. Out in the night, a lone lookout stands on deck and wipes the icy cold rain from his eyes.Ā
Thereās a flash of lightning and then he sees it-Ā
The unmistakable outline of a body floating in the sea, destined for certain death and a lonely watery grave.Ā
They haul the man using the trawlerās fishing lines.Ā
Itās a grown man. Adult certainly- young, tall and lanky but solidly so. He's fully dressed in non descript grey and navy blue. His dark brown hair a stark contrast against his ghostly pale complexion. He is heavy with dead weight and waterlogged from time at sea.Ā
Armand, the trawlerās doctor, by necessity and not qualifications, yells at them to bring the body into the side cabin. They deposit him on a steel bench, usually reserved for gutting fish.
The man breathes. Barely.Ā
Not really a man, Armand thinks to himself. Perhaps a boy, caught up in gang violence or something like that.Ā
Rivers of rosĆ© coloured blood trickles and pools on the steel bench and Armand moves gingerly to check the manās pulse and is surprised to find it there-slowly but surely meeting the pads of his fingertips.Ā
The captain, Giancarlo, yells at the men to return back to their posts, and they all do so begrudgingly, hesitant to leave Armand by himself with the body. The old man waves off their concern and shakes a scalpel in front of him.
āIāll cut his throat if he will be trouble and you can throw him back in the water.ā
Itās only then that they leave.Ā
Once alone, Armand does a quick survey for injuries. A few minor bruises on the arms. No obvious dislocations or open fractures. He follows the blood to three gunshot wounds; two on the manās back and one near his hip. The top two bullets come out easily and Armand cleans and sutures them back together. The third wound is different-neater, longer, firmer.Ā
His forceps retrieves not a bullet but a small metallic implant. Thereās a button on one end and a light on the other. It doesnāt look like a bomb and itās far too small to be a detonator, Armand has heard whispers of those being implanted into people. After three monotonous days of tidal waves and feral crewmates, Armandās curiosity gets the better of him and he presses the metallic tube; though nothing much happens except a bright red light piercing into his eyes. As he jerks away, the light hits the wall of the cabin.Ā

Zurich
Not exactly co-ordinates but maybe a code; something to do with a bank in Switzerland. Itās a message definitely not meant for a fisherman. Armand eyes the body on the bench with a wary sense of dread. Ā
This man was no ordinary man.Ā
Armand turns to fetch his magnifying glasses, hoping to get a better look at the implant. There are markings he doesnāt recognise.
Before his brain can begin to process the possible implications, thereās a forearm jammed forcibly against his throat, choking the breath out of him.Ā
āWhere am I? Who are you!ā The Man demands in a urgent tone. āWhat are you doing to me!ā
The questions starts in a foreign language, Armand guesses Korean or Japanese, then switches to English but the accent is harder to place, like it comes from everywhere and nowhere at the same time.Ā
Armand taps in panic at the arm tightening across his throat. His visions is cloudy for a moment before the arm relaxes, though only just enough to allow him to speak.Ā
āIām fisherman! This is a boat!" Armand gasps in English. "We are fisherman, we found you in the water. You were hurt."
The tense body against Armandās back remains taut and rigid, it was like leaning against a stone wall and just as cold.Ā
āWhere are we?ā The Man asks, voice less demanding but no less urgent.Ā
āWe are 60 miles off Marseilles. You were shot, you have three wounds on your back, see look look-the bullets I pull out!ā Armand tries to explains, fingers flailing in the general direction of the bench. āI am friend! We are friend.ā
It takes a long pause for the arm to drop from Armandās throat completely and he stumbles back, hurriedly putting distant between himself and the other man, who was already pulling on a discarded sweater and jacket that once belonged to one of the crew. When they finally face each other again, Armand can see that he was right; the Man looked too young in the face to speak in such a manner.Ā
āYou said three bullets. Whereās the third?ā
āThree wounds, two bullets. The third, is this.ā Armand hands over the small metal implant. āNear your hip. Something from Zurich. Are you from Zurich? You don't look like you come from Zurich."
The Man inspects the implant with confusion but handles it with practiced ease, like his body remembers where his mind does not. He doesnāt flash the laser light on the wall but into the palm of his large hands.
āCan you drop me off at the next port?ā
Armand nods his head. āYes, yes. I will speak to the captain but he will not stop for two more weeks. We must still work for two more weeks in tuna season."
The trawler lurches forward abruptly and The Man then turns an unnatural shade of green, his hand coming down heavily to grip the edge of the bench for support.Ā
āYou will be sick? You need to rest.ā Armand says now, rushing forward to catch the other swaying body. āWhat is your name? Who are you?ā
Before the Man blacks out again, he says, āI donāt know.ā
Itās only when Armand walks out the room that he realises the reply was in French.Ā

Langley, Virginia
Kang Yeosang marches hurriedly through the long corridors and knocks on the door of his director, Kim Yonghwan, who buzzes him in and looks up both wearily and expectantly.Ā
āWell?ā
āItās been confirmed sir. The mission failed.ā
āHas he been contactable?ā
āNo sir.ā
āThe tracker?ā
āDisabled.ā
"Well, shit." Yonghwan throws the surveillance photo of a superyatch onto his desk and sits back with a sigh.Ā "Find him."

Mediterranean Sea-30 miles South of Marseilles.
The Man has no name. The news doesnāt report any missing civilians at sea. Armand and the Captain, Giancarlo, allow him to stay, provided he earn his keep. After a few days of recovery and soup, he regains enough strength to assist with separating the fishing lines and eventually, upon realising he can bench press a whole adult man, the winch and gantry. They called him Okeanos as a joke and sometimes variations of āwater ratā in French, Dutch or Spanish. He doesnāt mind it.Ā
But for the next two weeks at sea, he remembers nothing of his life; not of his identity, nor why he was shot, or what he was doing thrown overboard at sea, and especially not why he can read maps with ease, and why he can speak to Giancarlo in Italian, Armand in French and Carlos the cook in Spanish.Ā
After the fishing expedition draws to an end and the trawler is laden with her frozen bounty, the Aventura quietly ambles into the port just off Marseilles.Ā
The Man sits on the deck, watching the approaching town come into view, as the sun rises in the horizon.
āHere.ā Armand says, holding out a wad of bills. āEnough to get you to Zurich but maybe not to Asia."
āThank you Armand, for everything.ā The Man says, standing to embrace his friend for the last time. "Look after the crew."
āAnd you must stay out of trouble.ā Armand says with a wry grin. āNo more trouble.ā
āNo more trouble.ā The Man nods and replies in French.Ā

Zurich
It's winter; where there's sleet during the day, light snowfall at night and icy cold wind every other time. There's an isolated area of the park that few frequent, partly because of the weather but mostly because it was past midnight now.
Two policemen crack jokes about local politicians as they walk their nightly rounds.
"Over there!" Says the taller blonde policeman, pointing his flashlight. "There's another drunkard on the bench. When will these deadbeats learn."
"Perhaps he wants to catch pneumonia and sleep in the hospital instead." Responds the shorter one, chuckling as he takes out his baton.
They approach the park bench with slow steps and when they fail to wake the drunkard, they use their batons to prod at the half frozen body.
"Wake up! Didn't you read the signs. You cannot sleep here at night."
With a groan, the Man on the bench wakes up, squinting his eyes painfully at the flashlights. "Sorry, I fell asleep."
"You speak English? But you are from China? You no read sign?" The blonde policeman says with distaste. "You understand? Move along asshole."
"I understand." The Man replies in Swiss German, causing both policeman to raise their eyebrows. "If you just give me a moment-"
But there's a baton jabbing impatiently at his ribs, which is still bruised from his time at sea.
"Move along. Go now!"
It's after the eighth baton jab that The Man loses his own patience, grabbing one end of the baton and using it to knock the blond policeman down onto his knees with a sickening crack. The shorter policeman is wrestled onto the ground with an attack so sudden, it draws a surprised gasp before he blacks out.
There's a gun being pulled but The Man's hand darts out with lightning reflexes to seize it and whip the handle across the blonde policeman's temple. He goes down easily.
With his hands shaking and heart racing, The Man looks at the two unconscious policemen in horror. They didn't even land a single hit.
The Man pulls the gun apart and discards the four pieces into a snow frozen bush before swiftly disappearing into the shadows.
He needs to get into Gemeinschaft Bank tomorrow or he will not survive another icy night out here. Man will not kill him but Mother Nature might.
