Well I like it but it’s not very well written. Also it’s a visual mess. The plot doesnt make any sense and the creators suck and its politics oscillate from mildly problematic to frankly baffling. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. However. the character

Although it is not looking like the ONK live action version would have a different ending, it's definitely approaching it differently (and imo, tidied a lot of loose ends so far). The most exciting thing to me rn is that it's looking like the movie will be depicting Kana's graduation as how a graduation should be - her in the centre with a sea of white penlights, as it should have been.

I've not seen the movie myself yet since I'm not in a place where it's airing but I'm happy to report that (based on what people who've been to see it have said) this is the case! Not only is Kana's concert entirely about her but Aqua actually attends it this time! The Kamiki drama does interrupt the concert, but it doesn't make the same baffling choice as the manga where not only is Kana a literal who background dancer at her own graduation concert in favor of glazing Ruby some more but the event is also forced to split pagetime with the final Kamiki confrontation for no apparent reason lol

I haven't sat and watched the LA series yet cos I'm bad at watching things but I've heard a shitton of good things about it and the adaptational choices it makes for its version of the manga's story so I really wanna sit down with it in the new year and give it a go!

Makes me really curious and excited to know what the anime is going to do with its version of events when it reaches that part of the series, given that the team have already demonstrated a willingness to make major structural changes to the story even as early as season 2. DAISUKE HIRAMAKI SAVE THE OSHI NO KO AND MY LIFE IS YOURS!!!!

Thoughts on 166.5 and the brackets reveal?

For those who haven't read the extra chapter (it's officially released, just no official TL yet), anon is referring to this page, I'm pretty sure!

The tab in the final panel reads 【推しの子】死ぬほど好きか or Do you love (Oshi no Ko/your favourite idol) to death?

Personally I didn't really read it as a reveal as much as a cheeky bit of wordplay, with the brackets just emphasizing that this is supposed to be read as referring to the title of the manga as well.

At the end of the day I never really thought the brackets meant anything all that major if only because Aka decided on their inclusion back before it was even decided that Ai was going to die (which was a storytelling choice made when the manga had already put a few chapters out). So he obviously didn't add them to the title with the 'current' Oshi no Ko in mind. Personally, I just think they're a stylistic choice made to emphasize the wordplay of the title and mmmaayyyybe as a nod to what Gorou says in chapter one about 'this world is fiction' - that the entertainment industry and all the stories that take place within it, even in our own reality, are so heightened and melodramatized that they in effect become unreality and fictional.

As for the chapter as a whole... sure was a chapter! No strong feelings on it one way or the other, really. I actually did really like the kind of loose, dreamy feeling the sketchy pencil lined presentation gave everything and it was fun seeing Akasaka draw Memcho and some of the others! And it was nice to see everyone's doing well after everything that's happened... I was hooting and hollering seeing that Melt was thriving as an actor lol

But it still has pretty much all the same problems as the original ending, right down to Ruby having no interiority and continuing to just be Ai 2.0 down to Mengo just drawing her as Blonde Ai at this point lol. So it didn't really make that ending worse, but it also didn't necessarily make it better either. Oh well!
