I guess there's people that follow me for my minis? Or something? Weirdos.
TRAZYN IS FINISHED!! And I'm quite pleased with how he turned out.

The goal was to make him look worn and dirty, like he's been on a long campaign. Partially because, yes, I am coming to this (Necrons) after Death Guard and partially because the rest of my Necron army is in various stages of enyuckification.
Also, his base isn't done because one of my regrets with my Death Guard is that they *don't* have a unifying theme to their bases, so I'm going to tackle the Necron bases all at the same time.
Anyway. I'm having a vicious allergic reaction to god knows what, so I'm going to take like 20 Benadryl and go to bed.
(Hey @skinslip my love! Look!)

Ork Painboss & Cyber-Grot orderly done!
The retinue of boyz is still in progress. Once again really diggin' the new plastics for detail and mass. The old metals would have required drilling and pinning to hold all those extra bits on. I remember when Citadel "Finecast" was first released for all of the special figures and it was terrible; brittle, soft detail, over-priced. The new plastics are expensive, but they're also soooo much better than what used to be.

This set includes ten distinct right arms, and ten distinct left arms, and no two form a pair that fits.
Also this seems as good a place as any to say that the mold seam lines on these things are offset by like 1mm, which is about as bad as I’ve ever seen it on any figure from any brand in my life.

This model... this model is killing me. I have limited experience with Citadel Finecast and after this one, I’ll try my very best to keep it that way. I can handle warped resin parts, bubbles and gaps. I can’t handle mold lines that destroy decoration and flashes so thick you have to carve a new surface out of them. And I only bought the model because I though it looked fun to paint!

Still playing with Coat d'arms, layer coverage is fairly standard. Varying opacity depending on the colour. Metallica are nice, but these certainly paint on stronger than I remember from the old 1990s Citadel Colours #Finecast #PaintingWarhammer #MiniaturePainting #Chaos #FabiusBile #Fabius #Abaddon #abaddonthedespoiler #KharnTheBetrayer #Ahriman #Warhammer #Warhammer40k #40k #BlackLegion #Tzeentch #Khorne #MiniPainting #ChaosSpaceMarines #SpaceMarines https://www.instagram.com/p/CAbCgeHniRK/?igshid=81ica9ug8un9

Citadel/Games Workshop - Lord of the Rings SBG
Rivendell Guard - Pt.7 - Mounted Heroes, a Dwarf and some trinkets.
I've said if before and I'll probably say it again, but I've finally finished my Rivendell Guard! It has been a while since I've painted the Elves and I feel these aren't quite up to the same standard as the last heroes, but they're perfectly suitable for the tables top. (Mounted) Gil-Galad, High King of the Elves by Unreleased Miniatures. This was one of their first models and you can tell. I hated building and painting him. (Mounted) Elrond, Master of Rivendell. He's too good not to at least consider taking in the new edition, especially with how he buffs Knights. However the official model is OOP and I refuse to use Finecast anyway. This was a pretty simple conversion using the mounted Elladan and classic Elrond sculpt. One razorsaw and some Milliput later and I'm fairly happy with how he's come out considering I've never done any sculpting before! Gimli, Son of Glóin, Friend of Rivendell. I painted him as I realised I had 2/3 Hunters and it seemed wrong not too. Lovely sculpt.
Now I’ve had these for a while but forgot to post them.I had the dice box made by the aptly named Custom Dice Box on eBay. Really nice guy to deal with and I am incredibly happy with the service and product. I’m planning on using him again for my other games as I love the extra details. Speaking of; I also have a complete set of colour themed dice/tokens and objectives for my Rivendell Guard. I’ve got something similar for my Isengard but they’re not quite as tidy and not really worht posting. They’re all neatly kept in a little wooden chest though, which you’d have seen if you were at WAR of the Ring! Now, my life in 1:1 scale has kinda fallen apart in an unprecedented manner over the last month and I'm still not entirely sure what's happening, but that's a bit heavy for a hobby blog! I've tried to keep myself grounded with the stability of a fantasy world in 28mm, but that's probably why these haven't come out as well as my previous works. There will be some disruption to my posting over the coming months, but I'm so inconsistent anyway you probably won't notice!
On the plus side I’ve finished the display plinths this week so will try and get some army shots for you all. The army is now basically done but I do have two 25mm bases left that are prepared a’la the Rivendell Guard which are saved for Gildor inglorian and the classic metal Thranduil but I’m waiting to find them for a reasonable price.

Before I fuck off to watch Pacific Rim 2, here's what I worked on today:
Trazyn!

I love him, but boy oh boy do I hate GW's resin minis.
Tomorrow is touch ups, shading, and highlighting.

Citadel Finecast is exactly as horrifying as everyone said it was.
There are so many gussets and so much flash and so so so so so many bubbles. I am... I should have bought liquid greenstuff. Huron how could they do this tO YOU. THIS DISRESPECT. I have been cleaning his backpack and only his backpack this whole time and I’m only just finishing’. Have not even started on mold lines. CAN’T start on bubbles yet. His axe-arm pauldron is miscast and so so thin that I can see inbetween the chaosy arrow details where there should be solid pauldron.

Thank you! Its a new mini from citadel, so it should be non TM finecast.
A couple quick questions: Does the type of soap matter? For example, is dish detergent okay?
Would a moldline remover work okay for taking mold lines off?
And would it be okay to start painting without priming. I get away with it (as far as I can tell) with plastic, but Im not sure if resin would be so forgiving.
Thank you again for the help!
I have accidentally purchased a finecast model. I thought it was going to be plastic, but it turns out I was wrong? Unless plastic resin is plastic, but honestly, I’m lost.
Anyone have any advice on how to assemble/clean up/paint a finecast model? Any newbie errors that someone who isn’t entirely sure what finecast is might make?
(atting @kaijuslayer and @wtf-skittens, because you peeps might know?)

Awesome detailed 35mm muniatures from @wildwestexodus universe by Warcradle studios. 😻 I love the casts, so far no bubbling or bad casts such as those I've had experience with, assembling Citadel finecast kits. 😑 . . I bought these miniatures mainly to represent the male/female versions of #shadowsofbrimstone #boardgame heroes, but I'm also interested in playing their system. Can't wait to paint them! 😍😍😍🎨 . . . #wwx #waylandgames #warcradlestudios #wildwestexodus #western #steampunk #anachrony #wildwest #miniatures #wargame #skirmish #analoghobbies #analoggames

Throwback Post - Khârn the Betrayer
Just a quick post for today, all these new years resolutions (keeping fit and stuff) are making me so tired. I'm literally dredging up old picture of models to talk about.
Here is my old Khârn the Betrayer from almost 20 years ago, I'm pretty sure I bought this guy the week if not the day of release. I'm sure I've painted him twice after spending hours stripping him with Nail Polish Remove.
Those of you who have seen my other Throwback posts will recognise my signature painting style of ol "dry-brushing a single colour over black to give the impression of shading". but at least in this case I also used multiple reds and greens to try and highlight certain areas like the armour and axe handle.
With the release of the new Khârn, I decided to pick up another copy of this guy (I've done the same with Ahriman) so I can paint him up and compare. I've still not got round to him, he's now a finecast mini, not metal like this one was and I haven't worked much with Finecast so I'm nervous to start working on him without causing damage.
I have however had a practise go of colours with this old metal Khorne Berzerker I had laying around. I'm happy with the colours on this model, and I tried shading/glazing highlights instead of edge highlighting for once, I'm happy with how well it came out as a gradual shade, but because I went from Khorne Red to Mephiston Red there wasn't much of a change in colour. I've added some Wild Rider Red to the topmost highlights and these can be seen much clearer.
I also think I've gone too heavy with the Nilakh Oxide, but that was a first go too. I'm not sure I like this stuff so may leave it out entirely when I do the final Kharn.
The tassel on Gorechild has not come out how I would have wanted, but on the new Kharn it is a lot more shapely. I was quite happy with the eyes, but I think I could do with adding a slightly lighter line in the centre of the eyes to help the impression of glow.
Still need to do some highliting on the leather pistol holsters.
One of the other things you can see here is that the metal model mould was quite pitted on the lower legs, not sure if this was from the sculpting or a slight miscast. i just used these to add some darker shades to the armour and accented these as armour imperfections, scratches and wear. One Final thing, Does anyone remember The Citadel Journal? I've no idea what the magazine was about, but i bought it because every month (I think) they had a conversion guide. One of my favourites which I actually built was Scyrak the Slaughterer.
Below (sorry about the lazy photography) is my version of this mini. I just want to say that conversions/kit-bashes with metal minis is/was a pain in the ass. as you can see I never pinned Gorechild. Also this Gorechild is double-headed, so for those of you that know the Khârn model well, yes I literally bought 2 models, just so that I could have a double headed chain axe! I need to strip this guy as it need's a full repaint, at some point, when I do this new Khârn, I should do this guy too as an added extra.

Citadel Finecrap
My Watcher in the Water kit has finally shown up, and lo and behold Citadel FInecrap strikes again. As I opened up the box to glance through it's contents prior to my match that night, I literally stopped mid-sentence to say "crap, it's resin". The body segments don't line up, and with how large of a block of resin those pieces are, using heat to reshape them will be problematic. Fortunately, GW was kind enough to send me some replacement, though whether it is just body bits or the whole kit remains to be seen. Any time I have had issue with resin they have re-issued the whole kit in the past, where as with larger plastic kits they have only sent the requisite frame.
