Its definitely very complicated!! In this situation I think more about the benefits renaming could have for the people with the condition moreso than not naming it.
Like being able to be more medically accurate, give better understanding and better treatment, all that.
And you're right that the condition renamed may still be tied to the negative connotations, but consider this. If there are two people and one says they have antisocial personality disorder and the other person says they are a psychopath, which person is going to be viewed with less stigma?
People are smart, but people en-mass can be uh,not as smart. I dont want to say dumb, bit moreso the more voices and people involved the longer it takes to change and adapt. Which renaming people may connect the two, but it would take far far longer for the new name to carry the same negative connotations than the current name.
Also yeah! It can feel like bending into the hate. But, at least to me, i think of it more as where did the hate originate from? Does it come from people hating on a marginalized group, or does it come from a misfortune mixup of words?
Queer as an insult is because queers were/are hated. Narcissism as an insult comes from describing negative traits rather than hate against the group (but has evolved into hate towards that group).
Also just in general, I think why narcissism is an insult is because of the victorian era hatred of self indulgence. Puritanism and the idea that ""doing things just for you is selfish and therefore inherently wrong"" whichhhh ties into a whole other issue with the cultures or the countries of north america in total, and likely other english places too.
Ties into the idea that only the rich should have leisure, etc etc. Demonization of hedonism, and that people should live in a level of fear, or what else would stop them from turning into demons?
I dont know if that makes sense, but basically it's a leftover mark from when everything was part of Christian oppression (not to say christianity is wrong, but moreso saying that it has been used as a tool for justifying wrong things). To simplify, Narcissism == self love, and self love == not loving god enough. (ONLY WITHIN THAT EXAMPLE! I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT).
but yeah, it all is very complicated and while I do wish people would stop using the world, I think it's too hard to take away a word that doesnt have another way of being described than it is to change it. And like how people that say narcissistic abuse are often victims themselves just trying to find a community they can feelaafe in, they dont do it (or at least majority dont?) call it that because they want to oppress and villianize people struggling with their own mental health condition.
It's like, idk how to word it but you know when you are a kid and dont fully understand something but latch onto it anyways because it feels okay until you learn better? It's like that but with words, where instead of it being a brief period of you life that you mature from, the internet makes it an ongoing constant thing, so rather than narcissistic abuse being a temporary fad way of describing a type of abuse, it ballooned into a whole community. Like the internet doesnt evolve but people are supposed to adapt and change and grow? Idk if that makes sense but like, without the internet the idea of narcissistic abuse wouldn't be so prevalent nor harmful. But there would also be less people that talk about and destigmatize NPD.
Basically, it is complicated and it is far bigger and issue than just one word!! And like many things parts of it are stigmatized because of the deep deep scars left behind by christianity the overall societal common knowledge. -_-
(Again not saying christianity is wrong itself just that it has been used as a tool of oppression and bad things by people who were never good in the first place.)
Yeah I basically get what you are saying.
But while we here discuss should the name be changed or not, it's not up to us xD It's up for... whoever deals with terminology and stuff.
And if the name will or won't be changed, we can ask not to spread misinformation and hatred more?

I have a question about the "Empath" community, especially in its relation to people they call "Narcissists." (Note: not in reference to people with actual NPD) A family member has gotten really into that world lately. When they mentioned it I got immediate bad vibes, and upon further investigation found it to be unscientific and ableist as fuck. I have found it very difficult to research further due to the quagmire of stupid thinkpieces.
The way that some of these people talk about "Empaths" gives me very shady Indigo Children vibes, but I don't have any specific evidence for this. Is this something you're familiar with? I offer a leaf picked up on a walk which has since become faded and withered.
The brain is a strange thing, far from completely understood by science, and of all the preternatural abilities people have claimed over the years, the ability to sense the emotions of other human beings is, in my opinion, within the realm of possibility.
That said, if there is any scientific backing to the modern conception of "Empaths" (I am going to call them telempaths) I haven't come across it.
From an occult history perspective, much of the culture around Empaths reeks of 1950s Psychometry rebranded with new-age woo. Regardless of any actual scientific validity, people are treating this as a magical concept.
I am unfamiliar with the concept of "Narcissists" in this context, but if I had to hazard a guess:
Christian influence on occult history tends to make magic form binaries. In most people's heads, the existence of a magical force tends to imply an anti-force. For every angel a demon, for every heaven a hell, for every telempath, a psychic vampire.
If people are repurposing actual psychological terms for magical use, that's actively ableist, and dangerous to people with those psychological disorders.
So yes anon, bad vibes.

Unfollow Us Now Challenge
Not actually trying to make you unfollow or anything but just like, putting out our controversial takes that are generally consistent through the system and/or I specifically as a part have no patience for and because I have no patience for it, no one in this system can cause I'm Like That as a part.
Anyways I'm gonna sit here and think of the shit that is 'controversial' about us.
White people are inherently problematic until proven otherwise (Not a hard rule, but general perspective of mine)
"Western Tulpamancy" is cultural appropriation (Not Up For Debate)
We will always reblog the "reblog to explode a TERF" button
We don't believe in heavily policing labels as long as they are in good faith
We do not give two shits about endos / endodiscourse
We half jokingly say we "kin" things
We do not believe in narcissistic abuse and adjacent shit
We are a raging commie (technically "we" aren't, technically only I am, but I'm converting Riku and Im a mega raging commie)
We hate p*dophiles and zoophiles (can't believe this is a 'controversial' topic)
We will judge you if you buy a bred parrot for any reason other than saving it
We are Luciferian / Satanist in philosophy and we really dislike Christianity / Catholicism / Mormonism / Adjacent Religions
We will look at you in extreme judgement if you are shipping incest / pedophilia / etc - especially unapologetically
We support omegaverse and actually think personally it is very gender friendly
We have Cluster B traits - very likely ASPD and NPD
We think syscourse and online discourse in general is dumb
We think the psychiatric system is broken
We think the prison system is broken
We think the medical system is less broken but broken
I hate America with a passion. Other parts not as much but I do.
We are pro legally authorized conservation managed / conscious hunting
We probably would save a bird over a child any day (not a serious one, but we are low empathy to people and love our birds)
We unfortunately live in America, its cool if you wanna unfollow us cause of that, I would too
We are queer and trans ooooh spicey
We are ALSO Asian oooooh bigots begone
We don't know or enough on SW discourse / policy and therefore have no opinion and leave that discussion to people more engaged and dedicated and involved in the pragmatics of that
We think Attack on Titan is HELLA problematic, but Riku very much loves the sound track and art style
Harry Potter just sucks AND is problematic like why do people still engage with it (not actually a huge deal mainly putting this as a joke)
We don't think wild animals should be kept as a pet
We are mild to moderate jocks and love our martial arts
We 100% believe that cats should be kept indoors and heavily judge those that let their cats be let outdoors unsupervised and unleashed
We don't really like most fruits
We are likely aiming for final fusion
If you celebrate Lunar New Year but aren't of a person of the culture and aren't invited by a person of the culture, then we will judge you
We "believe" in Climate Change
We eat meat
Annnnd I can't think of any more. Will update next time I sit down of things people might be upset about.

Queer culture is seeing narcissistic religious people insist that disrespecting your identity (and the identities of your friends) as a part of their religious freedom. Why can't they just be queerphobic to themselves?! Why do they have to try to hurt and control complete strangers?
Okay, anon, as an ex-religious* queer, I feel you, and I don't want you to feel I'm attacking you here - I genuinely get it.
(*Specifically Christian - I'm not totally comfortable calling this a blanket religious thing bc I genuinely don't know how this plays out in other religions, but for that reason I also don't want to assume you are or aren't speaking about a different religion.)
But, I would appreciate it if we could collectively agree not to throw people with NPD (and cluster b PD folk in general) under the bus. These people are cruel, and hiding behind their religion as an excuse to be cruel and often abusive. That doesn't make them narcissists or narcissistic, and being as narcissism is most often a trauma response to long term abuse in childhood, it's esp uncomfortable to call abusers narcissists imo.
Again - I'm not trying to attack anyone here. I don't think most people know that about NPD, or are really thinking about the impact they have on it as a mental illness when they talk like that. I didn't know myself until a year or two ago. But I think spreading this is important, esp if we want to vent about the harm we've suffered, so that we don't unintentionally hurt other survivors in the process.
(Note: I don't have NPD, or any PD for that matter, to my knowledge, so if anyone who does have them wants to chime in with any comments, or criticism of how I've talked about it here, please feel free. Always looking to be better informed, esp regarding how to be a better ally or just generally kinder)

It's really interesting hearing someone speak so candidly about NPD. It isn't a condition that gets discussed much online outside of fiction. On the topic of fictional depictions, have you heard of Tsukihime? I think you'd be really interested in the character of Jesus of Nazareth.
Even in fiction I get the impression that most people's model of NPD is generally negative due to pre-existing cultural biases and the whole stigma around low empathy disorders.
I have previously noted that a lot of the opposition to NPD is also often intertwined with Christian authoritarianism and conspiracy theories.
It's also worth noting about how when people praise humility as a virtue and condemn pride as a sin they're often not talking about things like rational caution or anything like that but rather calling for submission (usually to a deity or to religious teachings).
I don't think humility defined like this is good or virtuous at all.
For this and my many other crimes (such as my leadership of the secret organization known as The Serpent's Truth), I end up having nightly battles with the agents of the church and the pope routinely sends assassins to hunt me down.
But one day I will storm heaven, incinerate god on his throne, and remake the universe into something far more beautiful and humane.

[PT: NPD Modifiers: Seven Sins. end PT]
NPD MODIFIERS: SEVEN SINS
These are npd modifiers based off of the seven deadly sins. Please only use if you have NPD, or have traits of NPD! To learn more about NPD modifiers, please go here -> https://npdmodifiers.carrd.co/ The original idea behind NPD modifiers came from @draconicnarcissist !
---
Iraic Narc (🐻/👑): The deadly sin of wrath. Associated with red. Symbol is the bear. Characterized by anger and revenge, this narc is prone to feelings of rage, and may even have a pattern of lashing out (or a desire to). The idea is to reclaim narc rage and the idea that all narcissists are full of hatred. While this narc may experience large amounts of anger, they can express it in many different ways, in many different ranges.
Avaritic Narc (🐸/👑): The deadly sin of greed. Associated with yellow. Symbol is the frog. This narc is characterized by a desire for material things, and a longing for all that can be had. Wealth, objects, power. They want it all. Optionally, they may be probe to lying and cheating to get what they want, but this is not a requirement. The idea is to reclaim this aspect of the narcissistic stereotype.
Acediac Narc (🐐/👑): The deadly sin of sloth. Associated with light blue. Symbol is the goat. This narc is characterized by lacking energy, or lacking the innate desire to do things. Contrasting in the stereotype of narcissists as ambitious people, they will often refuse to work for the things they want, and their desire to live at ease may overshadow any other desires. Alternatively, they may greatly want things, but believe they shouldn't have to work to get what they want. Interpretation may vary. Severe sleepiness is also optional.
Superbic Narc (🦚/👑): The deadly sin of pride. Associated with purple. Symbol is the peacock. The pique idea of narcissism, this narc is characterized by heavy dosages of pride. Whether this pride is genuinely well-founded or not, they feel strongly that they are the cream of the crop. They like to brag, and talk about themselves, and may even be disinterested in hearing about others interests or life. Me time is a must. The idea is to reclaim the concept that narcissists are boastful and full of themselves because, hey, we're pretty great, aren't we?
Luxuric Narc (🐍/👑): The deadly sin of lust. Associated with blue. Symbol is the snake. This narc is characterized by indulgence in worldly desires. Sexual in nature, they may experience these feelings to the point of hypersexuality (though allosexuals and asexuals alike can identify with this modifier). Their mind is, so to speak, often in "the gutter". This may be distressing to some narcs who identify with this term and they may wish to reclaim it, or to others it may be a trait they take joy in. Interpretation is up to whomever identifies with this sin.
Invidic Narc (🐕/👑): The deadly sin of envy. Associated with green. Symbol is the dog. Characterized by jealousy, this narc wants what others have. Similar to greed in that they long for what they don't have, it is different in that the things they desire they only desire due to others having it first. Whether it be the newest gadget, a promotion, or a partner, etc., if somebody else has it, they want it. They may be prone to narc rage or narc crashes when they are incapable of getting what they want.
Gulaic Narc (🐖/👑): The deadly sin of gluttony. Associated with orange. Symbol is the pig. Characterized by overindulgence in needs. Whether it be the basic concept of food, or even things like always showing up early to meal times to get the best choice, these narcs love to eat and taste. They may have an interest in the culinary arts, or they may simply enjoy snacking a great deal. This sin can also involve overindulgence in other needs, so it is not limited to just food- interpretation is up to how one defines the sin itself.
---
Please like + reblog to spread these modifiers around, so anybody who identifies with them may use them!

Okay, so one of my posts that circulates a lot has to do w personalities disorders and abuse. So I want to lead with I do not think having a personality disorder (especially cluster B) inherently makes you abusive. If you have NPD, BPD, any other cluster B, or any other personality disorder, I’m sorry for the stigma you face and I do not think you’re abusive. (With that in mind, this post might be triggering for you, because it’s about abusers who have a personality disorder.) I also don’t think it’s okay to armchair diagnose abusers.
Okay, I think that’s all the red tape. (Good red tape. I don’t want to be misconstrued.)
So. I get frustrated sometimes with — now, this is a very Online Only Issue, because it’s not real world applicable, but the fact of the matter is online is a big chunk of a lot of people’s lives, and there are a lot of really good trauma support communities online. So I get that I’m pointing fingers at an online problem, but much like “let men be masculine” isn’t usually relevant IRL, it (a) sometimes is, and (b) is still meaningful commentary on the online communities where we spend a lot of time.
So I get frustrated because…let’s take Christianity. A lot of people were abused by Christians (in such a way that religion was relevant), and they make communities to interact. To support each other. To share stories. We all agree that’s good, I think? And in turn, we expect those survivors to not go into Christian spaces and badmouth Christians, and to preferably try to stay neutral in public.
And this is a charged comparison, I get that. I understand the complex social stigma factors at play here. I get that Christianity is a cultural juggernaut.
But I think like…the fact that people who were abused by people w NPD, in such a way that NPD was relevant, want to connect and share stories is okay.
That would be true for just about anything, right? It’s like — vent groups for spouses of people w various things are allowed to exist. You’re allowed to feel the way you do and allowed to find a community of support for it. That Idea is really important to me.
(Do I have to clarify that I don’t like or support the term narcissist abuse? If I do, I don’t. Actually, I might have to because of that analogy earlier since religious abuse is a Thing. The comparison wasn’t meant to be one to one, but y’know. Internet.)
And there is a really touchy issue of how to name these things. By touchy I mean “there are established communities w shitty names but I think the communities have a right to exist.” (You prob know the subreddits I’m talking about. I don’t know what I Would name them, and I would like to rephrase and make sure the context of “abusive parents with…” was clearer, but I think like. It’s okay that people want to connect w shared experiences.)
So that’s the pretty tangled knot of emotions I feel, and then I see someone whose content I generally like post something from the POV of someone raised by an abusive parent who had a PD. And like. Sometimes there are abusive parents who happened to have a PD. I had an abusive parent who happened to be Christian. But that’s not always true.
And I think seeing someone raving about Christians — someone who had clearly been abused — and saying “not all Christians” would be terrible, right? We agree they have the right to voice their pain?
So…I dunno. This isn’t a statement or anything, it’s just a ramble about the tangled knot of emotions and experiences I have about this.
#mine#if you clown on this post I will block you#clowning includes but is not limited to:#implying all people (or most or w/e) w PDs (or certain/a specific PD) are abusive#saying survivors of abuse (by people w PDs) shouldn’t have focused support communities#deliberately missing nuance or assuming bad faith#and just generally being a dick#also#ask to tag

My Theory of Everything.
[It’s ridiculous to have a theory of everything, but here is my theory of a whole lot of things. A few bits and pieces anyhow.]
The key to bad human behavior is pain. The most important pain in human experience is early emotional pain, what in recent times has come to be called trauma. This pain has been part of human experience from time immemorial. The history of human culture is the story of gradual recovery from trauma.
Trauma recovery has taken a great leap forward in the past 150 years. In 1870 there was a breakthrough in the long, slow accumulation of scientific discoveries. So, there have been improvements. But humanity still has a long way to go.
One thing trauma does is interfere with thinking. Fully rational mind needs access to unconscious awarenesses, but that is where pain lives. So, traumatized people are bad at science.
For example, white Evangelical Christians are very bad at science. They do not comprehend hormones. So they think God disapproves of homosexuality. This is of course absolutely ridiculous, because God is the one who creates Everything, and that includes hormones.
The group of political thinkers we call Conservatives have less recovery from trauma than Liberals. So they absolutely hate “The Left”, because The Left does not have as much pain as they do. This difference makes them completely crazy.
Two traumatized documents that show up in the Bible are The Book of Revelations and The Letter to the Hebrews. Revelations is an absolutely spastic rant of traumatic pain over the destruction of Jerusalem by the Legions of Titus. Hebrews is the final full-on anti-Semitic rant of 4th century Christianity. Both were forced into the Biblical Canon by the completely traumatized Athanasius of Alexandria. (In his Creed, he says that when Jesus died, “He descended into hell.” Really? Hell? Are you kidding me? What addled imagination would come up with that one? Ans: a traumatized one.)
So, whenever you hear Christians going back to Revelations, you are listening to PTSD talking, surely not Jesus or God.
Recent history has been plagued by violent episodes of fascism. Hitler and Donald Trump are cut from the same piece of neuronal cloth. They are both deeply traumatized. Science has studied this phenomenon. The name for it is Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD). Other NPD episodes were Rwanda and The Killing Fields of Cambodia.
Hitler caused immense destruction in Europe before a relatively healthy-minded military caught up with him. Trump is embarked on the same path of destruction in America, and that healthy-minded military has not caught up with him yet.

This is a TW for before you enter my blog, if you see anything listed that might trigger you please stay safe and be careful! (I most likely won’t be tagging anything besides blood/gore)
Cartoon/fake blood, light gore/meat esc stuff (this is NOT a gore blog, but I do reblog some more horror oriented stuff sometimes, be wary)
Religious imagery/subject matter (specifically catholic/Christian imagery, as well as mentions and depictions of heaven, religious trauma, and purity culture)
Unreality/derealization (reference to reality somehow being fake, dissociation, simulation, dreaming, etc.)
Vague posting/cryptic posting (sometimes even very light vague hints at abuse/trauma)
Paranoia inducing imagery/subject matter (such as mentions/hints at being stalked, everyone being out to get you, etc)
#intro post#sorry this is long klasdhaksj#I just wanted to be thorough#and no I do not want Catholics/christians interacting with this blog#it might seem weird but this is a coping mech for me#and I very much have religious trauma#so I'd rather keep this a safe space#nothing too personal just jkfhaskj go away pls
