imagine the following scenario: one day, the MXTX protagonists + love interests find out, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that they are fictional characters; that they were created to star in a romance-genre web serialization centered around their relationship.

in this kind of situation, i feel like all of the MXTX protagonists would experience some level of existential crisis.....except for luo binghe.

fo luo binghe, the reveal would be twofold. first, there would be the PIDW reveal: that luo binghe was originally to be the protagonist of the webnovel PIDW, and that his fate changed when one of the novel's anti-fans, peerless cucumber, transmigrated into the body of shen qingqiu and derailed the entire plot.

second, there would be the SVSSS reveal: that, in reality, all of the above was actually the plot of another novel - the scum villain's self-saving system - and that said novel is not concerned with any of luo binghe's feats or conquests or the like, but rather is about the romance between shen qingqiu (shen yuan) and luo binghe. and that, rather than being the protagonist, luo binghe is instead the male lead to shen qingqiu's protagonist.

except literally both of these reveals are massive Ws for luo binghe?? first, for the PIDW reveal, luo binghe finds out why shen qingqiu pushed him into the abyss - not because shen qingqiu hated him, but rather because the system literally forced shen qingqiu to do so upon threat of death. furthermore, luo binghe learns shen qingqiu's real identity: someone who read about luo binghe from an alternate universe and came to love him, someone who loved luo binghe across dimensions so much that, upon seeing that luo binghe's story was to end with zero true emotional fulfillment, rejected this ending so vociferously that he ended up changing luo binghe's entire fate.

and then, the SVSSS reveal: this entire universe only exists because MXTX wanted to tell the story of the romance between shen qingqiu and luo binghe. from the beginning, shen qingqiu and luo binghe were fated to end up together. and, if shen qingqiu is the protagonist, that means luo binghe was literally created to love him.

absolute ego boost. massive W. every other MXTX character would be experiencing the existential crisis to end all existential crises, but not our luo binghe. nothing but victories for him.

mxtx main characters as drivers

wwx: would be a good driver if he didn't get distracted every 5 minutes and constantly forget where he's supposed to be going (jc swears he does the latter on purpose but doesn't have any proof yet). when he's not distracted hes usually going 5 above the speed limit. has a random playlist for all driving occasions ("why do you have a 'just burnt down a walmart and now I'm on the run' playlist?" "why shouldn't i?")

lwj: the example of the perfect driver. will drive the exact speed limit and will refuse to go a single mile over ("lan zhan please we dont have to drive so slow" "its a school zone.the speed limit is 15" "lan zhan the school has been closed for 10 years pls go faster im begging" "no."). mostly plays classical music, podcasts or the rare romance song while driving

xl: decent driver when he gets the opportunity to drive. goes hard on the brakes bc he scared of hitting someone. will let people cut in front of him bc "they might have somewhere important to be". mostly listens to random radio stations for variety

hc: speed demon unless he's with xl. even then he's still a pretty safe driver. carries sticky notes to rate other drivers skills and put them on their car with notes (no one has gotten over a 7). extremely picky about music while driving, if he hates the song you play your banned from ever playing music in his car again. will always listen to music selections from xl

sy/sqq: hates driving with every fiber of being but still got his license. has extreme road rage and has pulled up next to someone to rage abt their driving to their face (spolier he made them cry). will only drive if he actually needs too, this man is a passenger princess. not too picky abt music surprisingly but doesn't like the volume to be too loud

lbh: very good driver. if you piss him off while driving he will either ride way too close to your bumper and follow you for a short time to freak you out or start driving purposefully slow and refuse to let you pass. Music depends on his mood or the events he has going in that day. date nights will be romance and happy songs, dropping sqq off to hangout out with lqg will be heartbreak/when will my love return songs, returning from a business meeting is loud ass rage music

Trying to summarize MDZS without having read the books

There's been a murder in the sleepy town of UncleVill. The victim is one of young Jin Ling's 490 uncles. Coincidentally, twinkatron 9000 Wei Wuxian, young Jin Ling's 474th uncle, is also dead.

Before his death he tried normal spiritual cultivation and was like "You know what this is kind of ass. Maybe I should look at it from a new perspective!" That new perspective ended up being violent demonic necromancy. During his little evil shenanigans he runs into sexually repressed tall monk Lan Wangji, for whom he causes several awakenings unbecoming of a man of God.

Later Lan Wangji goes "Wuxian. How am I supposed to top you when you're up to this demon business? Never mind all the gay shit my monastery would would flay me alive publicly if they found out." And oopsie daisy, they kind of do. Wei Wuxian dies of a broken heart and also by being stoned to death.

But he's reanimated! The process is a succes, except he woke up significantly less slutty and way more whimsical than his original self. He's scrubbed of his memories but Lan Wangji remembers everything. Now they must unravel an intricate web of lies incriminating relative upon relative to solve the mystery of Jin Ling's (other) uncle's death.

The scale of MXTX characters hand writing from Worst to Best

Hua Cheng: literally intelligible, those basically aren't even words any.

Wei wuxian: the equivalent of a sleep deprived adhd stem student notes right before an exam. Technically legible but only to him, people who know him really well.

Luo Binghe: it's good. Not outstanding but Nicely legible, pretty when it needs to be.

Shen Qingqiu: technically there's nothing wrong with his hand writing, but His writing is too modern for the Xianxia settings he's living in and although it's not too much of a problem it's definitely enough to make peoples eyebrow raise.

Xie Lian: stunningly beautiful calligraphy. Truly just art in written form.

Lan wangji: the most beautiful and technically perfect hand writing you have everything seen. Calligraphy teachers weap with joy when they see his writing.

JITD is headed towards subtextual romance line between Luo Wenzhou and Pei su

The adaptation up to ep 8 has stayed true to modu as much as they are able to - at this rate a romance subplot is inevitable.

In modu, lwz and fei du start off as "rivals" that both like tao ran. In JITD, that has shifted - pei su puts more attention on lwz from the very beginning.

In ep 3 cafeteria scene, the core of pei su's speech about change is him hinting to lwz that he yearns for a sense of security/stability. Pei su knows the only constant in this world is "change", but he's talked to his therapist about it. The end of this scene is very telling:

The only constant left in Pei su's world is lwz.

From a story structure pov, a 30-ep show can be split into 5 sections where every 6 episodes marks a turning point (throwback to Word of Honor where every 6 episodes had a romantic scene) . We see the first turning point in ep 6. The first case is complete, and at the same time the leads resolve their misunderstandings.

Modu is split into 5 parts. Zhoudu's relationship progresses at the end of each section. JITD should on some level parallel this progression:

Julien - misunderstandings absolved

Humbert Humbert - flirting

Macbeth - lwz confesses

Verkhovensky - feidu confesses

Edmond Dantes - your honor they love each other

Shen Yuan: I feel like he could drive normally. I don’t think he does or has a car but theoretically he could get a license and drive around. I feel safe in here. We can yell at idiots who cut us off together. Hes gonna yap about some bullshit. It’s a good time.

Luo Binghe: For one I’m being relegated to the backseat because passenger is for his passenger princess only. Which is weird but whatever. For two he drives in total silence except maybe a podcast. Which is also weird but whatever. He drives fairly normally so I feel mostly safe but sometimes he says weird shit and I feel like he might be kidnapping me.

Lan Wangji: If I thought Binghe’s car was silent I have not experienced this yet. His driving is fine, I feel secure and safe in this car. But I feel like I’m pissing him off every time I make a noise. I tell him the directions and he just nods and it feels weird. When I leave, he whips out a little handheld vacuum to clean up the dirt I tracked in

Wei Wuxian: The total opposite of Lan Wangji. I have to move a mountain of junk off the seat before I get in. And this could be a fun ride cuz we’re chatting but I am actually too busy fearing for my life. Wei Wuxian sees the rules of the road as restrictions on how fast you can get to a place and does not obey them because he doesn’t respect them. Im shocked he doesn’t get arrested.

Hua Cheng: He only mildly respects the rules of the road but only when Xie Lian is also in the car and Xie Lian asking him to drop me off somewhere is likely the only reason this man is driving me anywhere. So he’s trying to keep me alive which I appreciate. He’s definitely speeding and whipping corners which frightens me and I suspect he’s doing it on purpose. Can’t even talk to him cuz he’s got his emo music on too loud so he can’t hear me from the backseat (same deal as Binghe)

Xie Lian: His car is the most rickety, most almost-falling-apart thing you’ve ever seen. Have you seen a car on the road that’s all fucked up and has duct tape over parts in it? That’s this. It’s a decent social environment there, but either he’s going around 2 miles an hour or he’s disregarding every rule of road and common sense known to man. We definitely are getting lost and pulled over either way.
