mxtx main characters as drivers
wwx: would be a good driver if he didn't get distracted every 5 minutes and constantly forget where he's supposed to be going (jc swears he does the latter on purpose but doesn't have any proof yet). when he's not distracted hes usually going 5 above the speed limit. has a random playlist for all driving occasions ("why do you have a 'just brunt down walmart and now I'm on the run' playlist?" "why shouldn't i?")
lwj: the example of the perfect driver. will drive the exact speed limit and will refuse to go a single mile over ("lan zhan please we dont have to drive so slow" "its a school zone.the speed limit is 15" "lan zhan the school has been closed for 10 years pls go faster im begging" "no."). mostly plays classical music, podcasts or the rare romance song while driving
xl: decent driver when he gets the opportunity to drive. goes hard on the brakes bc he scared of hitting someone. will let people cut in front of him bc "they might have somewhere important to be". mostly listens to random radio stations for variety
hc: speed demon unless he's with xl. even then he's still a pretty safe driver. carries sticky notes to rate other drivers skills and put them on their car with notes (no one has gotten over a 7). extremely picky about music while driving, if he hates the song you play your banned from ever playing music in his car again. will always listen to music selections from xl
sy/sqq: hates driving with every fiber of being but still got his license. has extreme road rage and has pulled up next to someone to rage abt their driving to their face (spolier he made them cry). will only drive if he actually needs too, this man is a passenger princess. not too picky abt music surprisingly but doesn't like the volume to be too loud
lbh: very good driver. if you piss him off while driving he will either ride way too close to your bumper and follow you for a short time to freak you out or start driving purposefully slow and refuse to let you pass. Music depends on his mood or the events he has going in that day. date nights will be romance and happy songs, dropping sqq off to hangout out with lqg will be heartbreak/when will my love return songs, returning from a business meeting is loud ass rage music

Trying to summarize MDZS without having read the books
There's been a murder in the sleepy town of UncleVill. The victim is one of young Jin Ling's 490 uncles. Coincidentally, twinkatron 9000 Wei Wuxian, young Jin Ling's 474th uncle, is also dead.
Before his death he tried normal spiritual cultivation and was like "You know what this is kind of ass. Maybe I should look at it from a new perspective!" That new perspective ended up being violent demonic necromancy. During his little evil shenanigans he runs into sexually repressed tall monk Lan Wangji, for whom he causes several awakenings unbecoming of a man of God.
Later Lan Wangji goes "Wuxian. How am I supposed to top you when you're up to this demon business? Never mind all the gay shit my monastery would would flay me alive publicly if they found out." And oopsie daisy, they kind of do. Wei Wuxian dies of a broken heart and also by being stoned to death.
But he's reanimated! The process is a succes, except he woke up significantly less slutty and way more whimsical than his original self. He's scrubbed of his memories but Lan Wangji remembers everything. Now they must unravel an intricate web of lies incriminating relative upon relative to solve the mystery of Jin Ling's (other) uncle's death.

The scale of MXTX characters hand writing from Worst to Best
Hua Cheng: literally intelligible, those basically aren't even words any.
Wei wuxian: the equivalent of a sleep deprived adhd stem student notes right before an exam. Technically legible but only to him, people who know him really well.
Luo Binghe: it's good. Not outstanding but Nicely legible, pretty when it needs to be.
Shen Qingqiu: technically there's nothing wrong with his hand writing, but His writing is too modern for the Xianxia settings he's living in and although it's not too much of a problem it's definitely enough to make peoples eyebrow raise.
Xie Lian: stunningly beautiful calligraphy. Truly just art in written form.
Lan wangji: the most beautiful and technically perfect hand writing you have everything seen. Calligraphy teachers weap with joy when they see his writing.

Art by @mmungnothing
Summary A young Lan Sizhui can't sleep. He is just 4 years old and has nightmares about the evil Yiling Patriarch after the stories told by the older disciples. Lan Zhan decides to tell him a bedtime story about a long-gone prince he knew: The Prince Lotus.
Chapter: 1 | 1
Words: 1,875
I wrote this fic a long time ago. When I saw this fanart on Pinterest, the story painted itself in my head. Took me a while to find the artist account on Twitter, it was devastating to find out it was deactivated.

bby a-Yuan as cute things my niblings have done
a-Yuan, fresh out of the bath, sitting naked in LWJ’s lap and using his big sleeves like blankets
LWJ: Can you dressed now, please? It is cold.
a-Yuan: No! I want to be cold!
LWJ: You want to be cold? Why?
a-Yuan: So you have to hold me UwU
----------------------------
a-Yuan: Qing-jie, you wanna know how tired I am?
WQ, dryly: I’m sure you’ll tell me.
a-Yuan flops face down on the floor and then just lays there
----------------------------
a-Yuan: Where’s Qing-jie, Xian-ge?
WWX: She’s at work, radish.
a-Yuan: Why?
WWX: Because she needs to make money.
a-Yuan: Why?
WWX: ... Capitalism.
a-Yuan, suddenly furious: CAPITALISM?!
---------------------
a-Yuan: Rich-gege, the sun is not up. I’m sleeping.
LWJ: I know, baobei. That’s because it’s raining. You need to wake up now.
a-Yuan, very tired: But the suuuuuuuuun.
-------------------
WWX walks into the kitchen to find a-Yuan and Wen Ning hard at work
WWX: Oh? Whatcha making?
WN: Popo gave me her recipe for--
a-Yuan, delighted: A MESS!
----------------
a-Yuan: I’m telling on you!
WWX: Oh yeah? To who?
a-Yuan pauses to think for a moment, then puts his head down and begins to pray.

???
Both WWX and LWJ are highly ideal characters, so there wouldn’t be too much dispute on their moral standing. They’re perfect as the protagonists.  - MXTX's end notes (chapter 113.5), EXR translation
I'm not one to say word of the author is word of god – I definitely lean more towards Death of the Author in that regard. But an important part of that is that you look at what happens in the novel – and, from WWX's actions in the novel, it's pretty clear that this is supposed to be the case. Even if you don't agree with that statement, there's no doubt that acting on his morals is something extremely important to him, and those morals lean heavily towards doing the "right thing" in his perception. That is not "neutral".
Examples of this: WWX was not killed for being the only person to do the right thing and defend the Wen remnants for people to say he's chaotic neutral. He didn't risk his life alongside LWJ to protect both innocents and people who participated in the first Siege, during the second. He didn't go to save Su She from the Waterborne Abyss (at no personal gain), defend Mianmian (at no personal gain), join LWJ in going wherever the chaos is post-canon when they night hunt (despite preferring more difficult, exiting ones – though of course, spending time with LWJ plays a very large role in here too!), etc and do so many other things in the novel, for people to say he's chaotic neutral. He doesn't say this for no reason:
"But, let the self judge the right and the wrong, let others decide to praise or to blame, let gains and losses remain uncommented on." - Chapter 75, EXR
He says it because it's an important part of his philosophy (it fits with his actions, and, from a writing standpoint, would you include that with no indication of a lie otherwise?)! Because judging the right thing, and doing the right thing, is important to him! That's not chaotic neutral!
Tumblr media
"He does whatever he wants pretty consistently" well... yes? That is how decisions work? Morality isn't determined by whether you act independently or adhere to other rules – that's where chaotic and lawful come in, but not evil or good. If you do what you want to do, and what you want to do is help people, that's not neutral! It's good!
There's more to the tags, but I won't go into that right now since it's a different point. I would like to say that are multiple posts talking about how WWX doesn't just act disrespectfully/arrogantly for no reason (he knew he'd have to "keep his status in mind" if he wanted to run wild, he was hardly the only person being rowdy and breaking rules in Gusu yet nobody says the same about people like NHS or JC who did that too, post-SSC he was playing up these traits so nobody would look deeper into his reasons for things, ie not having his GC, etc. He enjoys running wild, yes, but it doesn't mean he does it mindlessly!), such as the one I just reblogged, because that's a point that needs adressing here as well. Please don't try to search up these tags and harrass anybody, as it only leads to harm – I just really, really disagree with this take. The WWX of MDZS is neither stupid nor chaotic neutral...

Lan Sizhui the Blessed: MDZS AU #3
Mdzs au where Gui attempt to cuddle Lan Sizhui when he gets too close.
Ghosts and fierce corpses suddenly losing fierceness around one person in particular being a phenomenon that raises questions, Hunguang-Jun forces himself to tell (stops holding himself back from explaining) the full, painful, nuanced truth to Lan Yuan — about where he came from, about the man who protected and helped raise him in the time he didn't remember.
No clue exactly why fierce corpses consistently try to gently pat his son's head and coo softly at him. I mean, they can guess, but for all they know any child raised at the burial mounds would have the same thing happen.
(Lan Zhan cautiously upgrades the likelihood that Wei Ying actually did birth A-Yuan from his own body from 1% to 10%.)
Carefully spread cover story (Lan Xichen's sworn brotherhood does have its benefits) is that all this is the result of an extremely overpowered Lan childhood protection charm, which also neatly explains Lan Zhan’s mysterious three year seclusion as slightly embarrassing, slightly impressive spiritual recovery.
Furthermore, in the interest of avoiding any associations with any infamous demonic cultivators, they more formally define their relationship as father and son. Lan Wanjii suffering through cultivation society events just for the opportunity for Lan Sizhui to call him Fuqin in public, and all but explicitly confirm the rumors that he's his legitimized bastard (definitely not a war orphan from anywhere cursed).
Between Lan Sizhui's natural kindness, his Protagonist Superpower, his polite but undeniably Cool disillusionment with the older generation, and his very endearingly Lan attempts at pranking, Lan Sizhui grows into easily the most popular young master of his generation.
Wei Ying recognizes A-Yuan shortly after his revival, gratified to see his old protection spell still working flawlessly. He was just fucking thrilled to find out that the kid survived! The fact that he grew up in such a respected position — the fact that Hunguang-Jun actually made up nice stories about being friends with the Yiling Patriarch and told them to his son, to the point that A-Yuan was genuinely delighted to be called a mature radish — there's really no way he could ever repay that debt.
He's less thrilled to be leaving Mo Village with a curse scar still on his arm and Mo-Furen still alive, but eh, no one lives forever. What's he going to do, murder her in front of the kid? Right after he saved her life? Might as well enjoy the extra time while it lasts.
Slight genre shift from BL romantic adventure to father(s)-son bonding roadtrip (Wei Ying not noticing himself falling in love with the man Lan Yuan described — apparently Lan Zhan got even better while he was dead, who even knew that was possible!)
Of course he has to keep up the Mo Xuanyu act somehow — fortunately acquiring makeup and a face veil for Wen Ning kills two birds with one stone! Who would possibly suspect that the Yiling Patriarch and the Ghost General would ever masquerade as a pair of cutsleeve rogue cultivators? Ok, they’re a bit suspicious in terms of resentful energy, but that just goes to explain why Hunguang-Jun’s own little ray of light is supervising them!
And, well, as great as it is to eventually meet up with Hunguang-Jun in Yi City and thank him for raising A-Yuan so good (it really is great to see Lan Zhan and not get scolded) it feels a little unfair for him to hate Wen Ning so much, considering how much he apparently warmed up to Wei Ying after his death.
