My younger brother passed us a block of sliced Ondeh Ondeh Cake from J&C Bakery located in the nearby industrial estate. Nothing to rave about as this is just an average cake with sweetened desiccated coconut and butter cream in-between sponge cakes topped with coconut flakes.

Also from my brother is this Durian Swiss Roll wrapped in plastic wrapper in a pink and white striped box. Now, I am familiar with durian desserts; this has no durian in it and is more likely flavoured with durian essence. Anyway, still a better eat than the former as I don’t fancy butter cream.

2 cloves garlic
1 tbsp oil
2/3 cup creamy peanut butter
1/3 cup low sodium soy sauce or tamari
¼ cup water
1 tbsp rice vinegar
1 tbsp toasted sesame oil
2 tbsp sriracha
1 tbsp maple syrup or honey
½ tsp red pepper flakes
Optional: 2 tsp chili garlic sauce

A homemade and hearty tomato-based Cioppino, which is basically a rustic Italian fisherman's stew. French chefs would call this Bouillabaisse.
With tomato, halibut, cod, snapper, clams, shallots, garlic, parsley, seafood stock, clam juice, wine, crushed red pepper flakes, oregano, thyme, and a touch of butter at the end, to provide a velvety finish and round out the acidity of the tomato's and wine.

Steve and Robin play hangman when they’re bored at work and Robin never wins because Steve spells words incorrectly during his turns, always ends up confusing his e’s and a’s. But they’re undefeated at Pictionary, can guess what the other one is drawing in a single line. Dustin always thinks they’re cheating.
When his parents are gone on weekend trips, Robin will come over and the two of them will watch movies all day and bake banana bread. Steve loves banana bread. Robin can’t stand when people chew with their mouths open but not Steve, who braids and unbraids her hair and talk-chews through the whole first half of St. Elmo’s Fire (her pick).
Steve once tried to color coordinate Robin’s closet as a surprise and it did NOT go well. Robin didn’t talk to him for two days, she was so upset. But Steve understands, he really does, when she explains what’s wrong over the phone. When he knocks on her door after dinner with a new mixtape, they end up driving around aimlessly until the tape is over and all is forgiven.
Robin holds Steve’s hand when he gets bad migraines, strokes up and down his arms when he has to put his head in his hands. Understands when certain days are bad days, quieter and gentler with him. She always keeps an extra pair of sunglasses in her school bag, just in case.
They haven’t talked deeply about the monsters, but they know each other’s favorite songs and foods and colors and their celebrity crushes and jean sizes and allergies (Robin can’t eat shellfish). They have done karaoke for longer than three hours and peed their pants laughing and have seen each other naked and have sat in complete silence, comfortable on Steve’s leather couch and happy just to be in each other’s company, their favorite person the other person in the room.

Maple Crab Pasta

The suaveness of Maple Syrup beautifully compliments the crab meat in this deliciously creamy Maple Crab Pasta, a flavourful Autumnal version of a favourite Summer dish! Happy Thursday!
Ingredients (serves 1):
100 grams/3.5 ounces wholewheat spaghetti
1 1/2 tablespoon unsalted butter
1 ½ tablespoon olive oil
a medium Green Onion
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon Red Chili Flakes 
about 100 grams/3.5 ounces fresh crab meat, thoroughly drained
a pinch of fleur de sel or sea salt flakes and freshly cracked black pepper
1/3 cup crème fraîche or sour cream
1/2 lemon
2 tablespoons pure (Grade A) Canadian Maple Syrup + more for drizzling
In a pot of salted boiling water, cook penne according to package’s directions, about 9 minutes until al dente.
Meanwhile, melt butter with olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
Finely chop Green Onion.
Once the butter is just foaming, add chopped white part of the Green Onion, saving green part for later. Fry, a couple of minutes.
Add dried oregano to the skillet, along with Red Chili Flakes. Cook, 1 minute more.
Stir in crab meat, and cook, another 3 minutes. Season with fleur de sel and black pepper.
Stir in crème fraîche, mixing well.
Once the spaghetti are cooked, drain quickly, saving about ¼ cup of the cooking water, and stir both into the creamy crab sauce, until the pasta is beautifully coated.
Thoroughly squeeze in the juice of the lemon halve. Give a good stir.
Finally, stir in Maple Syrup and cook, one minute more.
Enjoy Maple Crab Pasta hot, sprinkled with reserved chopped green part of the Green Onion and drizzled with a little Maple Syrup, and a glass of chilled dry white whine, like a Pinot Grigio.
