Maple Crab Pasta
The suaveness of Maple Syrup beautifully compliments the crab meat in this deliciously creamy Maple Crab Pasta, a flavourful Autumnal version of a favourite Summer dish! Happy Thursday!
Ingredients (serves 1):
100 grams/3.5 ounces wholewheat spaghetti
1 1/2 tablespoon unsalted butter
1 ½ tablespoon olive oil
a medium Green Onion
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon Red Chili Flakes
about 100 grams/3.5 ounces fresh crab meat, thoroughly drained
a pinch of fleur de sel or sea salt flakes and freshly cracked black pepper
1/3 cup crème fraîche or sour cream
1/2 lemon
2 tablespoons pure (Grade A) Canadian Maple Syrup + more for drizzling
In a pot of salted boiling water, cook penne according to package’s directions, about 9 minutes until al dente.
Meanwhile, melt butter with olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
Finely chop Green Onion.
Once the butter is just foaming, add chopped white part of the Green Onion, saving green part for later. Fry, a couple of minutes.
Add dried oregano to the skillet, along with Red Chili Flakes. Cook, 1 minute more.
Stir in crab meat, and cook, another 3 minutes. Season with fleur de sel and black pepper.
Stir in crème fraîche, mixing well.
Once the spaghetti are cooked, drain quickly, saving about ¼ cup of the cooking water, and stir both into the creamy crab sauce, until the pasta is beautifully coated.
Thoroughly squeeze in the juice of the lemon halve. Give a good stir.
Finally, stir in Maple Syrup and cook, one minute more.
Enjoy Maple Crab Pasta hot, sprinkled with reserved chopped green part of the Green Onion and drizzled with a little Maple Syrup, and a glass of chilled dry white whine, like a Pinot Grigio.

BEST TV & MOVIES
The Golden Girls: I never watched it growing up but it’s wild what a great show it was.
Malice: Okay, do you know anything about this movie? If not, don’t look it up. Just watch it. I was ON CLOUD NINE watching this one. So many twists, there’s a great Alex Baldwin monologue in it, it’s just a party of a movie. Especially if you love early 90s semi-sexy psychological thrillers, WHICH I DO. Such a great movie.
Trapped: Nathan’s first season premiered and was reviewed in The Globe and Mail!
Top Gun Maverick: I know, who even am I? This is so out of character, but I loved it.
PEN15: Best new show I’ve seen in years. All women born in the mid 80s need to watch it.
The Thomas Crown Affair: Love 90s movies like this.
The Bear: Just a great first season.
The Summer I Turned Pretty: This was just a perfect summer/teen show that I didn’t know that I needed.
Barbarian: Such a perfect movie. Bill Skarsgård can do absolutely no wrong.
The Crown: Depressing to binge watch all at once, but really good overall.
Bob’s Burgers (Christmas episode): I WILL NOT SHUT UP ABOUT IT.
BEST PURCHASES
The lip exfoliator & lip butter from Three Ships.
Every single tee tree product at The Body Shop. (As well as their whole Wild Pine collection.)
The AG Hair Colour Savour Mask that Ulta has apparently stopped selling?!
Gorgeous address labels from Zazzle.
Vicks bath crystals.
Aerie black leggings with pockets.
Holler And Glow foot mask from Target.
Black, tulle slip dress from Free People.
BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENTS
The sandwiches at Alidoro in the West Village.
Sullivan Street Bakery.
Angelina Bakery in Bryant Park.
Literally all Kylie Skin products.
Any product described as “lip oil” - BUY SOME DAMN LIP BALM FOR THE SAME EFFECT, PEOPLE.
So many recipes from Half Baked Harvest (the ginger sesame noodles with mushrooms and the sesame garlic chili oil noodles, for example). It’s a beautifully curated site but with such lackluster flavours in the recipes.
SLT. I love pilates, but this was just wretched.
The continued celebration of The Kardashians.
Part Two of the In America exhibit at The Met.
Halloween Ends. Just a mess of a movie.
A Christmas Carol (the one-man show on Broadway) was hell on earth.
I stand by all of these opinions!
And here are my favourites from 2021, if you’re interested!

New Post has been published on https://travelonlinetips.com/where-to-eat-in-airlie-beach-and-the-whitsundays/
Where to eat in Airlie Beach and The Whitsundays
They don’t call The Whitsundays the heart of the Great Barrier Reef just because it’s home to a reef in the shape of a love heart.
There’s lots to love about the region – and its reef, islands, beaches are only just the beginning. Under the surface there’s a killer food scene, ranging from casual bar bites to fine dining with personal chefs who promise love at first bite.
So if you’re wondering where to eat during your stay in The Whitsundays, get ready to taste the best of the best with this guide:
For the best breakfast … The Deck Restaurant, Airlie Beach
Hotels don’t always have the best reputation when it comes to serving a delicious breakfast, but this one bucks the trend. The Deck Restaurant at the bottom of Heart Hotel is where you’ll find locals for the most important meal of the day.
An a la carte menu is a far cry from the normal hotel buffet spread (soggy omelettes, why?) and each meal is served with complimentary sea breezes straight off the Coral Sea. Its location in the centre of town, makes The Deck the perfect launch pad to these Airlie Beach activities, providing the perfect fuel for your next Great Barrier Reef adventure.
You have to try their… Breakfast Bruschetta – a modern twist on the Italian classic.
Address: 277 Shute Harbour Rd, Airlie Beach Open: 7:30am-10pm Sunday – Thursday, 7:30am-11pm Friday and Saturday
For the best coffee… Fat Frog Beach Cafe, Cannonvale
Grab your pooch and head to the Fat Frog Beach Cafe for (all-day) brekkie or lunch with a view. This quirky cafe opposite Cannonvale Beach is a popular spot with locals and tourists for good reason; serving up healthy homemade dishes, Campos coffee, and yummy treats for little tadpoles (aka kids) and four-legged fur babies.
After scoffing down your meal, walk it off with a stroll along the Bicentennial Boardwalk.
You have to try their… Fish tacos with Asian slaw and grilled corn, and delicious baked goods!
Address: 44 Coral Esplanade, Airlie Beach Open: Monday to Friday from 7am-2pm and Saturday to Sunday from 8am-2pm
For somewhere off the beaten track…. Oar Bar & Restaurant, Cape Gloucester Resort
Whitsundays locals will hate us for sharing their secret, but some places are too good to keep to yourself. Fifty-three kilometres north of Airlie Beach, Cape Gloucester Resort is hiding in the aptly named Hydeaway Bay.
Their onsite restaurant Oar Bar & Restaurant is as popular as the resort itself. Uninterrupted views are a hard guarantee for a venue to make – but one this restaurant can uphold being entirely open air and fronting onto 1.5km of beachfront. Come by car, come by yacht, seaplane or helicopter, either way, just make sure you come to this slice of paradise.
You have to try their… Seafood Platter because seafood always tastes better when you can see the connection from trawler to table.
Address: 128 Gloucester Ave, Hydeaway Bay Open: Daily from 12pm-8pm
For the best water views… Northerlies Beach Bar and Grill, Woodwark
Views don’t come much better than the ones you find at Northerlies Beach Bar and Grill, 15 minutes north-east of Airlie Beach. It’s the kind of restaurant where you’ll want your phone set to panorama to capture the vistas over Airlie Beach, Whitsunday islands and the Coral Sea.
Just like the destination itself, the menu and atmosphere at Northerlies is casual and family-friendly, but with none of the fluoro lighting or loud music that so often go with the casual-dining territory. People come for the views and relaxed atmosphere, but stay for the food, with its seafood-focussed menu.
You have to try their… Kingfish carpaccio with avocado, salmon roe and miso vinaigrette – light and fresh, just like the destination itself.
Address: Lot 116, Pringle Road, Airlie Beach Open: Daily from 10am-8:30pm
For a honeymoon or uber special occasion meal…. Elysian Retreat, Long Island
There’s a long list of reasons why you should visit Long Island and Elysian Retreat is just one of them. If the lure of staying in your own private haven isn’t enough, the food will do all the convincing for you.
On arrival, you’ll be met by the chef to discuss your palette’s preferences and dietary requirements, so each meal is customised to you. We’re not just talking breakfast, lunch and dinner – chef will want to get to the bottom of what you’d like in your alfresco picnic hamper to take for a day’s exploring too. Save room for dinner, because each night guests are treated to a three-course meal served overlooking Conway National Park.
You have to try… Catching your own fish for chef to cook. Seriously, if you catch something while out fishing in the day, chef will prepare your catch for you that night.
Address: Long Island, Whitsundays Open: Daily from 7am-9pm
For the best pub food… KC’s Bar and Grill, Airlie Beach
You’ve come to the Whitsundays and blown the food budget on one of these jaw-dropping experiences – KC’s Bar & Grill to the rescue! It’s somewhat of a Whitsundays institution, serving steak and seafood to the sounds of live music.
Just as Cheers was the bar where everyone knew your name, KC’s Bar & Grill has built its reputation on making everyone feel as though KC’s is their local.
You have to try their… Taste of Australia on a plate – a roo and croc medley cooked on chargrill.
Address: 382 Shute Harbour Rd, Airlie Beach Open: Daily from 12pm-12am
For date night… La Marina, Airlie Beach
It’s not just a date night, it’s amore when you visit La Marina. This family-owned Italian Restaurant at the Port of Airlie brings a taste of Rome to the Whitsunday Coast.
Everything is made fresh onsite, right down to the tiramisu and doughnuts, with recipes passed down (and perfected) over generations. What you see is what you get at this restaurant, with the owners working the kitchen and floor – guaranteeing quality no matter when you go.
You have to try their… Salsiccia pasta. It’s about to become your death row dish – homemade Italian pork sausage, wild portobello mushrooms, parmesan and fresh ricotta.
Address: 1/33 Port Drive, Airlie Beach Open: 11:30am-10pm, Monday to Friday, 8am-10pm Saturday and Sunday
For the best seafood… Fish D’vine and Rum Bar, Airlie Beach
Not only will you be over-the-freaking-moon with this award-winning restaurant’s drool-inducing seafood offerings (ocean basket and seafood chowder anyone?), but Fish D’vine also boasts an impressive collection of over 560 rums!
Even if you’re not into rum, you’ll walk away with a new-found appreciation for the spirit (and hopefully a new fave beverage of choice). Bookings are essential!
You have to try their… Tempura battered local tiger prawns with Asian slaw, the chilli mud crab, and retro banana fritters with spiced rum maple syrup, vanilla bean ice-cream and dark chocolate swirl to top it off.
Address: 303 Shute Harbour Road, Airlie Beach Open: 7 days a week from 5pm till late
For fine dining (and a divine degustation)… Clipper Restaurant & Bar, Airlie Beach
Picture this: A five-course meal featuring culinary delights such as kingfish ceviche, braised beef cheek, pan-seared snapper, pork loin served with truffle sweet potato, and sticky date pudding with homemade honeycomb for dessert – all with uninterrupted views of the Coral Sea and Whitsunday Islands, poolside.
Yes, that my friends is a degustation with Clipper Restaurant Bar and Lounge at Coral Sea Resort.
You have to try their… Tasting menu, of course. (But if that’s a bit too much to handle, their a la carte lunch and dinner menus are damn good too.) And if you want to surprise a loved one, book the private gazebo.
Address: 25 Oceanview Avenue, Airlie Beach Open: Monday to Sunday from 6:30am-9:30pm

7 Day Healthy Meal Plan (June 15-21)
posted June 13, 2020 by Gina
A free 7-day, flexible weight loss meal plan including breakfast, lunch and dinner and a shopping list. All recipes include calories and updated WW Smart Points.
7-Day Healthy Meal Plan
I want to wish all the dads out there a happy father’s day! Whether you are a biological dad, step-dad, adopted dad or any other type of dad, I hope you know how important you are and I hope you take time to celebrate your day! Need some great “dad approved” meals? Check out my Father’s Day recipes or some other favorites like Stuffed Bagel Balls (one of Tommy’s favorites for breakfast), Grilled Lobster Tails with Herb Garlic Butter (yum!) or Steak Kebabs with Chimichurri. Does your “dad” have a favorite Skinnytaste meal? Share and let me know which ones!
Why Should Everyone Meal Plan?
Meal planning is a great way to organize your meals for the week ahead. You also save time and money in the supermarket! And of course, planning ahead helps you stick to your goals!
About The Meal Plan
If you’re new to my meal plans, I’ve been sharing these free, 7-day flexible healthy meal plans (you can see my previous meal plans here) that are meant as a guide, with plenty of wiggle room for you to add more food, coffee, beverages, fruits, snacks, dessert, wine, etc or swap recipes out for meals you prefer, you can search for recipes by course in the index. You should aim for around 1500 calories* per day.
There’s also a precise, organized grocery list that will make grocery shopping so much easier and much less stressful. Save you money and time. You’ll dine out less often, waste less food and you’ll have everything you need on hand to help keep you on track.
Lastly, if you’re on Facebook join my Skinnytaste Facebook Community where everyone’s sharing photos of recipes they are making, you can join here. I’m loving all the ideas everyone’s sharing! If you wish to get on the email list, you can subscribe here so you never miss a meal plan!
Also, if you don’t have the Skinnytaste Meal Planner, now would be a great time to get one to get organized for 2020! There was a print error last year, but it’s perfect now! You can order it here!

THE DETAILS:
Breakfast and lunch Monday-Friday, are designed to serve 1 while dinners and all meals on Saturday and Sunday are designed to serve a family of 4. Some recipes make enough leftovers for two nights or lunch the next day. While we truly believe there is no one size fits all meal plan, we did our best to come up with something that appeals to a wide range of individuals. Everything is Weight Watchers friendly, I included the updated WW Blue SP for your convenience, feel free to swap out any recipes you wish or just use this for inspiration!
The grocery list is comprehensive and includes everything you need to make all meals on the plan. I’ve even included brand recommendations of products I love and use often. Cross check your cabinets because many condiments you’ll notice I use often, so you may already have a lot of them.
And last, but certainly not least, this meal plan is flexible and realistic. There’s plenty of wiggle room for cocktails, healthy snacks, dessert and dinner out. And if necessary, you can move some things around to make it work with your schedule. Please let me know if you’re using these plans, this will help me decide if I should continue sharing them!

Sweet Potato Oatmeal Breakfast Casserole #vegan #vegetarian
It’s been six weeks since #whengallbladdersattack and I’ve lost about 25 pounds. More important to me is that I am really working hard at embracing the whole food, plant-based protein lifestyle. I’m not counting calories, carbs, grams of fat, points or servings of anything. I eat as much of the food that is in my home as I like, when I am hungry. Mostly vegetables, fruits, and proteins that come from plants like beans, seeds and sprouts. I’ve even found a substitute for my beloved pasta.
What I am not eating is dairy (butter, milk, ice cream, cheese), fried anything, fast food, candy and sweets, and the majority of meat. I’ll admit that even after watching documentary’s on Netflix like What The Health and Forks Over Knives, I still haven’t completely given up eggs or the occasional bacon bit and piece of chicken in my salad. I’ve also fallen in love with a sandwich at a nearby Cafe Zupas that includes crab meat, and I’m not ready to give that up yet either.
But I’m working on it.
I have also come to the realization that I am not a fan of cooking. Really. I don’t have fun with it. I loathe looking for new recipes. I mean, I have a great time pinning things on various Pinterest boards that I have that look amazing. But actually selecting something that I think I can make? NOPE. DON’T WANNA.
My other half loves to cook and is trying to take over some of the meal prep in an effort to help out. He found this recipe for Sweet Potato Oatmeal Breakfast Casserole from Angela at OhSheGlows.com and wanted to make it for breakfast. After taking a look and realizing it didn’t look that complicated, I decided that I would be game to help and we headed to our local market.
GROCERY STORE HACK ALERT: Do not buy an entire bag / box / container of a random ingredient to make one recipe. Buy just what you need in the BULK SECTION. This will include your spices. With a little math, we managed to grab just what we needed of finely chopped pecans, spelt flour, nutmeg, and oatmeal and it cost is $2.00 for these four ingredients. Pro Tip: Bring your own measuring spoons with you for reference.
We had brown sugar, a sweet potato, a banana, almond milk, salt, cinnamon, vanilla extract, chia seeds and butter at home already. (We decided to skip the maple syrup in the recipe as neither of us are big fans). All of this total (including what we could have grabbed from the bulk section if we didn’t already have it at home) made this recipe affordable for a family of four at about $10.00 total. When you look at the ingredients and the casserole dish, there’s no way you think there is enough for two adults and two tweens.
One – there is. Plenty. And two – in part it’s because we are taught that our serving sizes are supposed to be monstrous. They shouldn’t be.
Here it is – ready to go in the oven for the last 20 minutes:
With following the directions exactly in Angela’s recipe, we were able to create this fantastic breakfast for our family in about an hour start to finish. Not only was this perfect for breakfast, it filled the house with a warm smell similar to the cinnamon rolls I used to make the kids, was a completely vegan / vegetarian meal AND will be great cold in their lunchbox for school. Plus, I can make this ahead of time and freeze it for a quick meal during the week.
Thanks to Angela at OhSheGlows.com for this fantastic recipe that we will absolutely make again!
