You cannot and you will never succeed as a creator if you think following the exact path of another creator will get you the same results.

This is two fold. A lot of people will give advice on what they think will work to grow as a creator. Often times it's through ignorance, but they often assume they found some secret they can share. Other times it's outright malicious. There is no one method. Every creator is different. Every situation is different. The internet will completely change how it elevates people in a matter of months. The internet someone else got famous on simply doesn't exist anymore. The only applicable advice is stuff that ends up being super vague. Like find a niche, practice, interact with people. But the how of it changes almost day by day.

But I was witness to this on a whole new level. Something I'd witnessed in pieces in the past, but never so direct and obvious. You cannot use another creator's life as a roadmap for your own journey. I've seen people try to follow the exact career path of someone else, but someone recently was pulling in pieces of their beloved creator's personal life as well. No. Do not do that. What the actual fuck.

Grossness aside, if you follow their exact path, yes it's possible you could end up at the same destination in some capacity. You will create only shallow copies of what they did. You will never create anything original or authentic. You will only ever be a shadow.

There are well-worn trails in every industry that creators can share. But eventually, every creator must forge their own path. If you try to follow someone else or mirror the path they carve, you'll lack everything you need to thrive.

In the early twenty-first century, there are laws for the maximum speed a vehicle can travel on public roads, depending on the road. The speed limit exists for safety reasons and, historically, it has been lowered in times of gasoline rationing (as going faster produces more drag which consumes more fuel for the equivalent distance).

Despite being a law, speed limits are constantly broken. Sometimes by a small amount that everyone on the road is going, and sometimes egregiously. Law enforcement officers who find people "speeding" will issue a fine, or potentially suspend one's legal ability to drive. Should an accident occur because of speeding, the driver might be charged with reckless homicide or manslaughter. If the driver weren't speeding, they would be in less legal jeopardy.

Because law enforcement gets a portion of its funding from fines, and because it is such a commonly broken law, they will set up 'speed traps' where a police vehicle will hide out of sight on a highway or major road with frequent violations, and emerge when they catch someone speeding. This is known as a speed trap.

Psychologically, the speed one goes on a road has very little to do with the legal speed limit and more to do with the speed of other vehicles, the width of the road, and how open the space is. Well designed roads discourage speeding.

That said, speeding is an aggressively callous act, making the world less space and wasting energy for very, very little gain.

I think it’s so funny how navigation apps let you know about speed traps. There should be more mainstream apps that encourage you to break the law. I want Google Maps to be like “alert: this casino’s camera system has a blind spot on its back entrance, and this Walgreens has a manager who is super not on the ball”
