One of my favourite things about mdzs is the fact that we have juniors. Idk but I just love when we have a relationship child/parent figure in books is making all the story so much emotional in a way that make my heart melt and hurt in the same time. And in mdzs we have a lot of them.
But what I like the most are the juniors that we have after Wei Wuxian is board back to life (I like the period when the main character are juniors to but the quartet hits diferent)
Like the angst and heart warming moment between the characters and juniors is almost to much. And I swear I don't cry to much at books or movie but Jin Ling and his uncles, your honor it me.
Though a thing that I feel about is not talk enough is the relationship between Lan Wangji and the juniors.
I know all we love Wei Wuxian with them or Wen Ning with them or Lan Xichen with them or Jiang Cheng with them been the somehow uncle to all because Wei Wuxian adopt them all and he will not let the bar low been a good uncle even though he refuse to admit that he forgive his brother ( you can not tell me that after some 10 or so years after the temple he doesn't try to catch back the fact that Lan Wangji hide that he have another nephew, Jiang Cheng have some spoiling to do )
But what not very much cover is Lan Wangji with the juniors other then Lan Sizhui or Lan Jingyi what is fells very rough because every junior knows Hanguang-jun not just the Lans and all look after him in night hunts or respect his commands even if they are from other sects even before Wei Wuxian is in the picture. And I'd you look closely somehow when the junios are not fighting they actually make a very good team and that makes me think that they fight enough times together to be good at that.
And here comes my theory what if in that 13 years where Wei Wuxian was dead Lan Wangji really stars adopting not just tone of bunny's but children's to. And Wei Wuxian explain that the juniors are spoiled and we know that Lan Wangji is not as severe as the other Lans pure example Lan Jingyi ( if that chid was actually disciplined like a Lan he will not be that an-Lan ) and there are the moments where if you go in the second episode of sez 1 from the doughua when Lan Wangji and Jiang Cheng have that tense discussion where Wei Wuxian just fight Jin Ling, Lan Wangji don't talk to Jiang Cheng at all but at the final of discussion he warned Jin Ling personally about the hand and to take care ( and that shown that he cared and not because off Wei Wuxian they don't even know yet that Wei Wuxian is back and Jin Ling really looks like he listen and pay atention so this to where in night hunt without Jiang Cheng before enough for Jin Ling to actually listen to Lan Wangji, just go and watch the beginning of the episod ) and what I want to go with that is, what if Lan Wangji actually in this years start to pay much more attention to the juniors that just ar guardian but more as a adult figure to make them safe? What if he actually have moment when he take Jin Ling in his grup ( because both Sizhui and Jingyi are comfortable with him to not keep just appertains)? What if Lan Wangji really let them much more free outside of Cloud Recesses? And why we don't have more fics with the 13 years gap between Lan Wangji and the juniors. My heart need it.

At your side [End of Season 2]
[First] Prev <–-> Next
#poorly drawn mdzs#mdzs#wei wuxian#lan wangji#wen ning#jin ling#wen qing#jiang yanli#a-yuan#It may have taken a year but we did it! The end of season 2!!!#(Granted: this season was nearly twice the length of season one.)#It's been a really fantastic season to draw for. So many iconic moments! It was a lot of work but I had a blast B*)#I also enjoyed experimenting more and more with my comic style. I'm growing as a comic artist bit by bit!#There is even a little bit of shadowing in this one for next season. As a treat. All the fun (and not heart breaking) scenes to come!#Comic talk time: Recently saw 12 angry men for first time and I love the coincidence of the themes aligning here.#They both touch upon the horror of judicial systems - in which the most persuasive argument wins and the truth is a nuisance.#All it takes is one person to stand against the crowd and say 'I do not know what is true. And that is reasonable doubt enough.'#When the majority is for condemning someone guilty - that in itself is persuasive enough.#One will set their mind to what the 'truth' is and refuse to see it any other way. That their perspective is the only correct one.#No one is born with a monopoly on the truth.#Everyone has biases and agendas. Some care not for the outcome - only that they can be on the convenient side.#Lan Wangji is putting everything on the line to say 'I'm not going to go with the majority vote.'#And that is a huge deal in a story that is so politically focused as MDZS is. Everything is a careful chess move to these sects -#and to not play the game is basically sacrificing everything you are and your families name. For some it is unthinkable.#And there is no doubt in LWJ's mind. He would stand there and lose everything if it means upholding justice.#More importantly - these two have each other's backs. The bond is unbreakable. This is the most ride or die I have seen two people be.

Alright I've finished book 1 of the English release! A few thoughts;
The Spooky™ vibes are off the charts!
He finally summoned Wen Ning again and can I just say, who dare!?! Who has done this to the baby!??!? Kill them!!!
Unrelated but I'm currently picturing Wen Ning as a six foot+ tall tower of dark robes and terrifying energy with the softest little pouty face ever. I'm sure he's not actually super tall, but my brain for some reason refuses to picture him otherwise.
Nie Huaisang: explaining his clan's backstory and their deal with the sabers.
Me: damn, that's rough buddy.
Drunk Lan Wangji has made his first appearance, and all I could think was;
Lan Wangji; making intense bedroom eyes at Wei Wuxian.
Wei Wuxian; "wow, that makes me feel funny and kinda weak kneed, and I bet a woman would be super effected by a look like that!"
...
"so anyway about this dead guy..."

Fanon likes to portray Jiang Cheng and Lan Wangji as being jealous of each other because they fear wei wuxian will choose one of them over the other. Which is ignoring the fact that at least in novel canon Jiang Cheng did not even fucking know wangxian ever got along let alone that lwj was in love with wwx until at the very end of the story (in cql canon he does go through a wangxian phase early on and gets very confused by their "breakup" during wwx's sunshot era) and that Lan Wangji is mostly filled with loathing towards both himself and Jiang Cheng for 'abandoning' Wei Wuxian and not being able to save him.
It also ignores the much bigger point that both Lan Wangji and Jiang Cheng are actually jealous of Wen Ning. And why wouldn't they be? That is who Wei Wuxian chose in his first life. He left the Jiang, told Lan Wangji to fuck off no he is not coming to gusu with you, and spent his days with his little-brother-shaped corpse bestie on his mountain in yiling. And then when he came back he immediately called him up the second he could string together more than two notes on a flute. Wen Ning is the real competition. (And he's winning)

if jiang yanli was thrown back in time to cloud recesses after she was killed, what do you think she would have changed first?
well! the thing is that jiang yanli is uniquely powerless to do much of anything
she is not physically strong. despite her rank, she's not that politically powerful, because her power is superseded by her mother and her father's and then her brother's and husband's. she doesn't know anything
the last one is the real kicker - jiang yanli wasn't there for the wen indoctrination camp. she wasn't there when wei wuxian gave up his golden core. she wasn't on the battlefield - until she was and it killed her
jiang yanli would have a terribly difficult time preventing the war and saving her brothers mostly because she doesn't know what happened. sure, warning about the wen, but how likely is anyone to take that seriously? they all already know the wen are dangerous, that they're courting war, what good will that do? she knows wei wuxian managed to win the war but not how, not really. she knows they told her that her brother killed her husband and she doesn't believe it, but she doesn't know what did happen either. she doesn't know about jin guangyao or the second flute or the golden cores
i think she's liable to do one of two things
1. tell jiang cheng and wei wuxian everything and get them to help her, which they will even if they think she's crazy, and hope they can stumble across a solution
or
2. decide the common thread, from her limited perspective, that really damned her and her family is wen qing and wen ning. so she kills them. against the death of her husband and brother, what are they anyway? they die either way. this is just speeding things along
of course, what actually happens is the wen take this as a reason to declare war early, so there's no slow build up and instead we launch right into it
which, it turns out, saves lotus pier and her parents and wei wuxian
it's worth it, even if she feels like her brothers never look at her quite the same way again

Wei Wuxian at His Best: Arrogant
The cultivation world liked to slander Wei Wuxian about his "arrogance," but is it really arrogance if one knows perfectly well of their own capabilities? Wei Wuxian, for one, can follow through on all his promises. Here are some of my favorite moments where Wei Wuxian is deservedly arrogant:
Wei Wuxian stepped inside the hall, and, one on the left and one on the right, lifted Lady Mo and Mo Ziyuan’s dead bodies. In a low voice, he urgently said, “Why aren’t you awake yet?” As soon as the words left his mouth, their souls returned. An instant later, Lady Mo and Mo Ziyuan’s eyes rolled into the back of their heads, their irises replaced with a blank white gaze. The characteristic piercing shrieks of newly revived vicious ghosts tore from their mouths. In the middle of the screeching, one high and one low, another corpse, trembling with fear, also crawled its way up, and in a voice which was as quiet as it could be, joined the chorus with a soft, soft cry. This was Lady Mo’s husband. The cries were loud enough. The resentment great enough. Wei Wuxian was extremely satisfied, and smiling lightly, said, “Do you recognize the hand outside?” Then he commanded, “Tear it apart.” The three Mo’s were like three black winds; they flew out in the blink of an eye.
—Chapt. 5: Feral IV, fanyiyi
Wei Wuxian stood in front of them, lowered his head slightly, and greeted them politely. The paper effigies returned his politeness and then some by bowing. Wei Wuxian pointed outside. “Bring the living person inside. Eliminate everything else.” ... In only a short period, the twin girls chopped the fifteen or sixteen walking corpses into so many pieces they were impossible to reassemble. The dead body parts tumbled all over the ground! Having secured an overwhelming victory, the paper maids followed their orders and carried inside the weakened man who had been running from the walking corpses.
—Chapt. 36: Flora IV, fanyiyi
Only vicious corpses could fight such a ferocious battle. If two living people fought the same way, they would have long lost an arm and a leg, or cracked their skulls open and splattered their brains everywhere! “Guess who’ll win?” Xue Yang asked. “Is there a need to? Wen Ning, of course,” Wei Wuxian said.
—Chapt. 37: Flora V, fanyiyi
Before he could finish speaking, Wei WuXian had quickly tied the ribbon over his eyes to cover his sight. He positioned his arrow, drew his bow, and released—it hit! The series of actions was both smooth and fast. The others didn’t even realize what he wanted to do. They couldn’t even see his movements clearly before the center of the target had been pierced through. After a moment of silence, overwhelming cheers rang throughout the watching towers, with even greater intensity than those for Jin ZiXuan. The corners of Wei WuXian’s lips curved slightly. Spinning the bow within his hands, he tossed it back.
—Chapt. 69: Departure, exr

i’ve been thinking a lot about wei wuxians gui dao and the belief that it was corrupting him. mxtx said in an interview that wen ning killed jin zixuan bc wwx lost control and he lost control because of his cultivation style, and i think that makes a lot of sense!
cultivation of any type relies heavily on balance, having a clear mind and heart ect. a cultivation path invented during the worst period of wwxs life, used heavily during a war and then as a outcast, of course it would be unstable. and that doesn’t even take into account that resentful energy is dangerous, so without the utmost control of ur mind and body, it makes sense that it would start to corrupt ur judgment and ur ability to be rational.
any cultivator of any path is at risk of qi deviating, especially at times of high stress and constant hyper vigilance. i wouldn’t be surprised if wwx experienced some kind of qi deviation at qiongqi path, which eventually lead to the nightless city massacre.
it’s also why wwx using it without risk of losing control after he comes back makes sense too. bc without the pressure and threat of staying on the burial mounds, and the years he spent dead as a spirit/ghost just chilling, he was more sound of mind. plus with time he could refine the methods, to make sure that the effects of it are negligible.
anyway all this to say wei wuxian one in a lifetime genius who’s so OP he invented a cultivation path and managed to win a war and live for years with minor issue before landing into trouble with it. that’s kinda crazy of him.

hello!! for the ask game -- any more details about that post where wei wuxian finds out that wen ning and jiang cheng are hooking up post-canon 👀
the background for this is that WWX hears about WN/JC a while after WN/JC has been a thing - they've had time to phase out of the hate-sex phase, the phase where they're surprised that they have a cordial acquaintance interspersed with moment of kinship outside of sex, and are in the phase where they're willing to see where this takes them. it's been a few years since the end of canon, so WWX and JC have crossed paths since then.
WWX goes through some truly embarrassing denial. Because clearly what WN and JC gave been having isn't sex, it's not like, y'know, sex-sex. They must have been cutely holding hands and cuddling.
or, well, actually WWX isn't even thinking about that part too much either because the idea of JC cuddling makes his heart twinge and his throat go tight and actually what matters here is that what WN and JC are doing is fake sex and can't be real or correct or good!! They're probably too embarrassed to even hold hands, WN's too nice to push and JC is awful!!!
for the record LWJ hates this and is glaring at WN whenever they meet because WN is the one who stumblingly and delicately mentioned that he and SLJ are seeing one another, thank you WN.
2. for a while WWX manages to keep his obnoxiousness under enough wraps that WN can ignore it.
then one day WWX makes the mistake of switching targets for his random bout of fretting, and instead of bothering his husband he talks at WN about his ConcernTM regarding JC having sex WN having sex WWX not being there JC not being good at cuddling while WN needs someone who'll be nice to him.
WN awkwardly conveys the information that oh, hm, actually, that is not an issue, JC is a very good cuddler.
and then some demon must have taken over WN's mouth for a moment, probably invited by WWX's moue of disbelief because WN adds, very neatly cutting through WWX's exclamation that ah, that's just like WN to be so nice, but he's just saying that because he doesn't know better, because in fact--, "i just get him tired enough."
3. denial comes crashing down violently around WWX's ears and so does his peace of mind.
(there's a lot WWX hasn't made his peace with. JC never let him cuddle when they swapped handjobs as teens.)
suddenly WWX starts treating WN like a rival. it's unexpectedly thrilling for WN, and the fact that WWX's moods make it clear that in WWX's mind, WN is winning, makes it even sweeter. WN isn't used to winning. (WN wouldn't have thought of JC as a prize, it's complicated, the thing with JC. and yet. WWX thinks of JC as a prize. Even if he's not admitting it to himself.)
(LWJ is hating this even more but if he'd made a habit of trying to enforce his boundaries with WWX he wouldn't be WWX's regular, would he. he does try to distract WWX! with his dick! it has admirable success for the duration of coitus and then WWX starts getting the same look again. Distracting WWX with a mystery and a night-hunt just ends with WWX musing about looking up specific legends in YunmengJiang, at which point LWJ recognizes that they're going to have to go to Lotus Pier and hope for the best.)
4. They go to Lotus Pier, where: JC has so far been blissfully ignorant of this entire farce.
There's some new tension between he and WN because JC misinterpreted some mentions of WWX WN made, and WWX is an extremely fraught topic between them, one that they've avoided since they rolled out of their hate-sex phase. Originally JC doesn't link WWX's visit to WN's presence, he's too busy being taken aback (and distrustful) (and happy) at WWX being there, WWX trying to recall their history, WWX acting almost as close as they did once.
WN - who was already here! funny how these things work out! - is wincing throughout out these proceedings. WN himself isn't invited to stay in Lotus Pier proper, it's one of these things. YMJ doesn't have dogs for SLJ to unleash on WN, but he wouldn't want to take the risk, it seemed like a boundary worth respecting. There's something particularly awful about seeing WWX ingratiate himself - the word that comes to WN's mind is woo, really - with JC with JC unaware of the reason why it's happening.
Telling JC the truth keeps being the role WN stumbles into, time and again. At least this time he isn't trying to hurt JC on purpose. Even though talking about WWX is another of those boundaries of JC, another of those things that WN knows hurts JC, but--
at least this time he didn't wait years before telling JC either.
5. JC reacts by immediately being furious at everyone involved, but mostly at WWX, and there's a HUGE DRAMATIC SHOUTING MATCH.
JC acts like WWX returning like that, because of this, is some horrible betrayal.
WWX is outraged that WN told JC. (WWX's actual problem is that he's atrociously jealous of someone, anyone, getting somewhere with JC that he never got, by which I mean not just sex but also cuddling and a stable relationship that you can tell the people close to you about, and desperately needs to be higher in JC's priorities. he knows better, he really does, but WN's revelations turned his world upside down and.)
JC is also outraged that WN told WWX about-- *angrily cuts himself off* "--about you two fucking," WWX finishes, so incensed he's that close to calling JC by his courtesy name. And how is that any of WWX's concern exactly, to which WWX retorts something along the lines of "making sure they're not hurting one another," or something equally untrue. There's accusations of WWX playing games (JC - about WWX's return; then WN - about WWX trying to seduce JC, which gets JC snapping at WN and LWJ grimly nodding), there's an attempt from LWJ (who is throwing poisonous looks at both JC and WN) to convince boo that they're not worth it, let's just go, and WWX spits out in a fit of atrocious jealousy that it's his business because they're his, WN is his, and WWX had JC first, so why does JC let WN cuddle him--
at which point JC throws everyone out for the night. WWX and LWJ have to find a room at an inn, and WWX feels the disgrace acutely from having a guest room. (LWJ is indispensable in dragging WWX away, for the record. LWJ doesn't drag WWX all the way back to Cloud Recesses, because WWX "needs" to have JC, as he stresses to LWJ. But he thought about it before WWX started tugging on his heartstrings.)
5.5 - that same night
WWX slinks back out of the inn and beelines straight for LP. he needs to talk to JC, to fix things - JC always thinks the worst of things, it all went topsy turvy. There were too many people! This conversation he should have had without WN. (there's another conversation he needs to have with WN, but WWX's been putting that off forever and isn't going to stop now.) Even LWJ, bless him, of course JC would take everything the wrong way, given how he is with LWJ around.
WN intercepts him just as he's about to enter LP. And isn't budging on not letting him in. ("He said no, Wei-gongzi.") there's something very ironic about WN acting like JC's watchdog without being asked but WWX isn't unpacking all that - it feels like if he did he would entirely unravel.
A couple of WWX's arguments erode WN's resolve - "he threw you out too; you know you need to convince him to take you back or he'll keep a grudge and he won't take you back before forever" and "WN, we both care about JC," and "we need to dissipate this misunderstanding" - and if he'd had just a little more time he's sure he could have gotten through to him but JC finds them before that can happen. (people who trust in WWX's ability to take no for an answer: 0) Eyes slit, looking unhappy, all "what are you doing here."
"We came to see you."
Grudgingly, JC takes them in.
(He, too, thinks it's something unfinished. And his weak point was always fear of abandonment. What if he pushes away too much. They returned tonight. It would be foolish to push them away again; what if they change their minds?)
they're more tired than earlier, and quieter, so despite JC taking them to his office and not his bedroom after the confessions of caring and hurt they'll manoeuver themselves into a successful threesome before the night is out. (despite WWX tempting fate or at least JC's temper by asking whether it's truly so bad that WWX didn't say why he was back now? and no, for JC of course it's not, it's about WWX never telling the truth.)
After all, they came back.

RANKING MDZS CHARACTERS AS HOW MUCH I THINK THEY WOULD SURVIVE IN FNAF:
11. MO XUANYU: he dies during the first five minutes. Don't know how. He just does.
10. JIN ZIXUAN: he doesn't listen AT ALL to Phone Guy and just...doesn't do a thing? He probably thinks he's too rich to die.
9. JIANG CHENG: he dies the first night. Just, sorry. He wouldn't follow Phone Guy's instructions at all, or try at the beginning but then gets mad and fights the animatronics. Sorry jc you're not winning this one.
8. NIE MINGJUE: he's not fucking surviving more than 2 nights, I'm sorry. He doesn't know how anything works, he survives the first night by sheer stuborness, but gets out of luck on his second night. He dies fighting thought.
7. XIAO XINGCHENG: he actually gets to the second night, but his problem is that he tries to help the children to move on and, unlike lxc, he gets killed.
6. SON LANG: survives 4 nights, but gets bitten by an animatronic and dies from the injury. He's the only other character who makes it to night 4 this is so funny mdzs character's would be amazing at surviving or terrible.
5. WEI WUXIAN: he ALMOST survives, but he gets scooped in night 5. Idk how, because this is based in fnaf 1, but he gets scooped, 100% sure.
4. LAN WANGJI: is lwj. He doesn't involve himself in the drama like his brother, but is able to survive the 5 nights. Never comes back.
3. LAN XICHEN: weird position, because lxc doesn't look like he would be the best with computers, but he's a Lan. He's not only going to survive the 5 nights, he also saves the souls of the murder children, because he would try to talk to the animatronics and give them therapy sesions.
2. NIE HUAISANG: he actually suffers the first night, because he doesn't know what's going on. The second night tought? He already knows the cheats. He survives and as a plus makes a theory about the lore that it turns out to be true.
1. JIN GUANGYAO: listen, LISTEN. He not only survives the five nights, the extra night and the 20/20 mood. He's jgy. Being a night guard at Freddy's is actually a vacation for him. Animatronics aren't worse than rich people. He even gets bored at night 5.
HONORARY MENTIONS FOR CHARACTERS WHO DOESN'T GET TO BE IN THE RANKING BECAUSE THEY'RE A SPECIAL CASE:
-XUE YANG: this fucker messes with the animatronics ans disassembles them for fun. The animatronics are the ones hiding from him.
-THE FOUR JUNIORS + A-QING: they are the kids possesing the animatronics. Sorry juniors :(
-YANLI: befriends the animatronics somehow. She makes them soup :D
-MIAN MIAN: stays one night, survives, never comes back. They don't pay her enough for this bullshit.
-WANGXIAN: they fuck in the security office and the animatronics are traumatized.
-WEN QING: finds the bodies of the kids and reports it do the police
-WEN NING: look, I think he would get springlocked but wouldn't become a vengative animatronic (unless he's possesed). He's just there behind a wall.
-LAN QIRENG: survives because Lan power, but instead of doing his job as a security guard starts to reprimend the animatronics and tries to teach them THE RULES.

Pre-Exams Days me : realizes that nothing and nobody is stopping me from word-vomiting my love for Lan Sizhui.
Like, look at him. He’s gentle, thoughtful and resourceful. He’s handsomely pretty.  He’s Baby but reliable. He’s adorable but cool.
In one non-existent mdzs fanfic I would have him go on an investigation with his friends (bcz Friendship is Wholesome). Also I could ship him with anyone but that’s another story. If I were a bit mean he would have to face some life-threatening menace and get out of it injured but victorious, because that’s usually the fate of my fav characters (sorry). He’ll be cared for though, by his friends of course and Wangxian who are basically his parents.
I would have him explore his relationship with Jin Ling (best friend slash cousin). They could support each other as they face their new responsibilities as Sect Leader and Sect Heir. They would sometimes meet up at Lotus Pier, and yeah Yunmeng-bros reconciliation is happening. Jiang Cheng deserves better, much love to him, and I’m sure he’ll get along well with Sizhui.
Jiang Cheng : * proud * ah yes, my nephew who is sensible. I’m sure he’ll take care of my nephew who is not sensible.
(Cue Lan Sizhui acting self-sacrificing because yeah, he’s Wei Wuxian’s son alright. Jiang Cheng decides that both his nephews need their legs broken.
Jin Ling : Why am I included-)
I could give Sizhui an adventure involving only him and Jingyi, his childhood best friend, because they’re just adorable together and so loyal, literally ride-or-die for each other.
I could have some junior disciples(/villager) have a crush on Head Disciple(/Peerless Cultivator) Lan Sizhui because, again, look at him.
Me reading MDZS for the first time : Who’s he and why is he so perfect ? (Let me tell you if I were there, a fanclub would definitely exist.)
What about a competition between Sects ? He would end up first when it comes to musical techniques and archery at least. (Sorry I make the rule. Also I believe Wen Ning is a good teacher.)
In another non-existent mdzs fanfic, an original character would want to court him (listen, outsider pov is sexy). Watch him win hearts even as his Wen heritage is discovered. Watch him grow and become even more settled, confident in his own abilities. This other talented new Yao Head Disciple threatening his position as the most eligible bachelor discovered his secret ? One dangerous joint Lan-Yao nighthunt later, that dude would promise him protection if he ever were persecuted for the blood coursing through his veins.

reasoning:
wei wuxian: this seems like the exact sort of thing he'd be stupidly and unfairly talented at. because why not. he's the protagonist after all
xue yang: a canon-established love for sweets. plus a canon-established desire to make gentry lords eat shit.
lan jingyi: the one thing he has that no one else here has is the fact that he's a teenager. do you know how much teenage boys eat dude
wen ning: could potentially leverage the fact that he's a fierce corpse to win the competition. like maybe he just stores all the pies in an abdominal cavity and then removes them once the competition is over....
nie mingjue: idk he seems like his body needs a lot of calories. uncertain if he'd want to participate though
jiang cheng: on one hand he has absolutely no talent for this kind of thing. on the other hand this is the exact sort of stupid shit that he'd get ridiculously competitive and butthurt over

Personality and Traits ❖ A Charismatic Rebel
Wei Wuxian is untrammeled by conventions of the society or sect traditions and indeed by rigid morality, playful, humorous, or mischievous, one who often uses humor to dissolve or provoke any kind of reaction whatsoever. Despite all that is light-hearted, he happens to be sharp-witted and deep emotionally.
Smooth-tongued and affable, he easily wins people over with his charisma and likability, though his defiance of authority often puts him at odds with traditionalists. Resourceful and imaginative, as a cultivator, he is incredibly intelligent and inventive, creating new techniques such as demonic cultivation in order to challenge convention. Bravery and Self-Sacrifice
Wei Wuxian has lots of principle, sometimes self-destructive. He stands against the cultivation world or against his own sect for the protection of the oppressed.
Protector of the Weak: Wei Wuxian is strongly just, and he constantly puts protection on the front burner, as was taking care of Wen remnants despite their outcast status.
Martyr Complex: Wei Wuxian often takes on blame to save others, which contributes to his tragic downfall.
Background and Motivations
The upbringing of Wei Wuxian plays an important role in the development of his character:
❖ Orphaned Childhood
Orphaned when young, he was then adopted by the Yunmeng Jiang Sect. With such a tragic life, Wei Wuxian grew up optimistic and carefree, and soon became very attached to Jiang Cheng and Jiang Yanli. These early experiences of loss make him extremely empathetic toward other sufferers, such as the Wen remnants.
❖ Philosophical Beliefs
Wei Wuxian believes that morality is determined by intent and not by tradition or superficial rules. It is for this reason that he invented and practiced demonic cultivation even when he knew it would make him an outcast.
Strengths and Abilities
Wei Wuxian is a genius in cultivation. He had mastered traditional techniques and later pioneered demonic cultivation. Natural Talent: He has expertise in swordplay and is very knowledgeable in talismans and spiritual arts.
His adaptability and innovativeness are unmatched; he even invented the Stygian Tiger Seal.
Demonic Cultivation: After the loss of his golden core, Wei Wuxian developed Demonic Cultivation with the help of resentful energy. Although very controversial, this very ability underlines his genius to be able to go where no one else ever had. He controls the fierce corpses and controls resentful spirits with Chenqing, his flute.
Relationships
Wei Wuxian's relationships highlight his loyalty, empathy, and emotional complexity. ❖ Lan Wangji (Soulmate):
Lan Wangji serves as Wei Wuxian's anchor, offering unconditional love and acceptance. Their relationship evolves from rivalry to profound partnership, with Lan Wangji becoming Wei Wuxian's moral and emotional support. Wei Wuxian deeply admires Lan Wangji’s integrity and steadfastness, even if he often teases him.
❖ Jiang Cheng (Brotherly Bond):
The relationship between Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng is quite complicated; their brotherly love is founded on misunderstandings and differing values. Even though they had a falling out, the sacrifice that Wei Wuxian did for the Jiang family proves that his loyalty still stays.   ❖ Jiang Yanli (Sisterly Love):
Jiang Yanli is Wei Wuxian's surrogate sister and one of his biggest emotional anchors; her death was a blow from which he will never recover and has contributed much to his eventual emotional collapse.
❖ Wen Remnants:
In Wei Wuxian's unstoppable protection of the Wen remnants, especially Wen Ning and Wen Qing, lies great justice and compassion.
Weaknesses and Vulnerabilities
Despite his strengths, Wei Wuxian is nowhere near invincible, and his weaknesses make him all the more human:  ❖ Self-Sacrificial Tendencies:
Wei Wuxian often puts others before himself, which leads to his demise. His decision to protect the Wen clan leads to his betrayal and abandonment.
❖ Reckless Idealism:
While his ideals are noble, the fact that he went against the conventions of society and authority makes him an easy target for criticism and persecution.
❖ Guilt and Trauma:
Wei Wuxian carries a lot of guilt for all the deaths and suffering brought about by his actions, especially during the Sunshot Campaign and the fall of the Wen clan.
Symbolism and Themes
Wei Wuxian embodies the spirit of breaking with tradition in order to seek justice and compassion. His character is closely related to the following themes:
Freedom: His whole life is a quest to be free, both in the choices he makes and in the philosophy he holds.
Redemption: His resurrection enables him to confront his past and find peace.
Love and Acceptance: His relationship with Lan Wangji shows the power of unconditional love to change a person.
Character Arc
The story of Wei Wuxian is that of tragedy, resilience, and redemption:
Tragedy: His fall from grace after being labeled the Yiling Patriarch marks his lowest point.
Resilience: Despite losing everything, he remains true to his principles.
His resurrection gives him a second chance in life, to make up misunderstandings with loved ones, and to be with his happiness-Lan Wangji.
To be honest, I have a lot more to write on him, I will continue on another post with the personality and traits as well as some more universal themes such justice, love and self acceptance. Like honestly Wei Wuxian is the reason I'm so obsessed with complex characters and will always defend them. This man is precious and is everything.

Taming of the Shrew (aka 10 things I hate about you) WangXian edition
LQ, being the reasonable, strict pseudo parent he is, would be absolutely against either the the Lan brothers dating until they were like. Forty. But of course Lan Xichen doesn't want to wait that long because have you seen his friend group? (NMJ? JGY? Both? Neither? No one outside of those three really know, and quite frankly are scared to ask)
Tired of listening to Lan Xichen negoiate and beg (albeit in a very Lan like fashion citing various research studies about socialization in young people, finding out what he likes in safe spaces before going to college, etc. etc. etc., all while using the verbal equivalent of Chicago AP Citation), Lan Qiren looks around and is like. Wait. Lan Wangji doesn't like people in general, I have found my solution. So Lan Qiren sits them both down at Family Dinner Night (TM) and tells them both the rules have changed. As long as Lan Wangji dates, so can Lan Xichen.
Problem solved, right? Except...
Well. Lan Qiren forgot about the neighbor who's always causing him grief by being overly helpful in the backyard garden and has no sense of self-preservation or volume control. And, let's be real, it's Lan Wangji.
Tumblr media
Who promptly takes one look at his brother, nods, and rushes off (in a Lan like fashion involving excusing himself, washing his plate off, and putting it in the dish washer) to make Plans(TM).
The next day, he tells Wei Wuxian they're going to the movies on Saturday, and WW thinks nothing of it because 90% of his personality is just
Tumblr media
Jiang Cheng meanwhile is like. Dude. Are you dating now? And Wei Wuxian is like. No? Lan Zhan didn't tell me we are, so this is totally a platonic thing, I mean, what?
Lan Wangji, meanwhile, walks off to tell his brother he's going to the movies on Saturday with Wei Ying. Lan Xichen is just like...
Tumblr media
Just a regular Saturday then.
Insert regular teen movie shenanigans and miscommunications here, involving Wei Wuxian being a general lovable pest to Lan Qiren, a side ship of Jin Zixuan being absolutely, hilariously uncool around Jiang Yanli (going so far as to start going to Home Ec class, only for JY to find out near finals that he doesn't even go here), and Jiang Cheng and Nie Huaisang both being over their family members' infatuations. Wen Ning being dubbed the Bro General (see what I did there?), Jiang Cheng getting at least one win in a Sport, Wen Qing quietly overthrowing her uncle as principle, and Nie Huaisang running the school's largest betting pool.
Until prom, where both Lan Xichen and Wei Wuxian realize that no. Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian are dating (Lan Xichen at least has a plausible excuse; Wei Wuxian... y'all've made out several times, you should have at least clarified about where you two stood).
Epic confessional at the end, where Jin Zixun gets punched, and still no one knows what's going on with Lan Xichen's dating life (NMJ? JGY? An entirely unknown character? No one in school knows, but they all agree:

Happy birthday
Modern the untamed? The one where Wei wuxian is friends first with Lan Xichen
a continuation of 1
Sophomore year the administration had tried to exert some type of control over them by putting the three of them all in different lunch periods.
That had resulted in two of them cutting a class every single day so they could all have lunch together. Xichen either missed study hall or band, neither of which required his attendance and so his uncle was only moderately apocalyptic about him missing, and the only person Mingjue had to answer to was his cousin, who frankly didn’t give a shit, so skipping class was easy for him too. Wei Wuxian had the worst of it, because while he could ace statistics and chemistry in his sleep, Aunt Yu took every excuse possible to punish him and Uncle Jiang could only redirect her so many times.
Both Xichen and Mingjue had just offered to come to his lunch permanently, but that wasn’t fair and it wasn’t like Lan Qiren wasn’t punishing Xichen, he just wasn’t being as vindictive about it. So they took turns.
Not having lunch together wasn’t an option because that meant letting the administration win and that was unacceptable. The next semester they’d put them all in the same lunch, accepting that they actually caused less trouble that way, and had done so ever since, so it was a battle well won.
“Do you think this is a bribe?” Wei Wuxian asks as they sit at their customary table under the oak tree. They’d gotten into two physical fights and one prank war to claim it freshman year from the seniors, which may or may not be when the rumors about them first started. “Putting us in the same lunch as our brothers.”
“It’s probably just saving them a headache,” Xichen answers, taking out his healthy lunch that he brought from home. Wei Wuxian snags it to start distributing the rice and pickled vegetables between him and Mingjue’s plate and Mingjue leans over to dumb the cheese sticks and questionable meat loaf from their plates onto Xichen’s.
Lan Qiren is convinced that school lunches are filled with plastic and poison and pesticides. Which is probably accurate, but it still tastes better than pickled vegetables. Most days.
“Someone warned me against sitting here,” Nie Huaisang complains as he slams is tray down. “Which means now I’m required to have lunch with you in order to gain some extremely dubious street cred.”
“I’m only here because Nie Huaisang is,” Jiang Cheng says, even though he sits across from Wei Wuxian at the opposite end of the table. “Don’t get used to it.”
Wen Qing has this lunch period too, but she always spends it in the lab. Maybe he can entice her to eat lunch sometimes, because Jiang Cheng will definitely sit with them then.
“Hello,” Xichen’s extremely hot brother says as he sits down. He has an identical lunch box to Xichen’s, except he apparently eats all of his himself. That’s deranged. He’s lucky he’s so beautiful because it makes up for the pressed khakis and awful food choices.
It’s a tragedy that A-jie has the lunch after them, especially because it’s the same one that the Jin degenerates have. Wen Ning has that one too, but he’s not much protection.
“Can we beat up Jin Zixuan?” he asks.
“Yes,” Jiang Cheng, Mingjue, and Nie Huaisang all say at once.
Xichen sighs. “Can we at least have a good reason first?”
Very hot brother – his name is Lan Wangji, and Wei Wuxian should probably start using it – looks at them all with faint disapproval.
That’s hot too, actually.
