Fanon likes to portray Jiang Cheng and Lan Wangji as being jealous of each other because they fear wei wuxian will choose one of them over the other. Which is ignoring the fact that at least in novel canon Jiang Cheng did not even fucking know wangxian ever got along let alone that lwj was in love with wwx until at the very end of the story (in cql canon he does go through a wangxian phase early on and gets very confused by their "breakup" during wwx's sunshot era) and that Lan Wangji is mostly filled with loathing towards both himself and Jiang Cheng for 'abandoning' Wei Wuxian and not being able to save him.
It also ignores the much bigger point that both Lan Wangji and Jiang Cheng are actually jealous of Wen Ning. And why wouldn't they be? That is who Wei Wuxian chose in his first life. He left the Jiang, told Lan Wangji to fuck off no he is not coming to gusu with you, and spent his days with his little-brother-shaped corpse bestie on his mountain in yiling. And then when he came back he immediately called him up the second he could string together more than two notes on a flute. Wen Ning is the real competition. (And he's winning)

CQL Rewatch - Episode 4
Okay, it’s been a hot minute since I was able to get to watching this episode, but here we go!
Tumblr media
Great intro. Remember last time how Lan Wangji got to pick Wei Wuxian’s punishment? Well, it seems that Wei Wuxian was up late into the night working on transcribing and, surprise! he’s not done. And unless I’m mistaken, he’s actually spent days doing this, because when they first arrived, the salute ceremony was ten days away, and here we see Wei Wuxian is almost late for it. So by this point, I’d expect Wei Wuxian to have some serious hand cramps from all that calligraphy.
Tumblr media
While I enjoy this comical moment and introduction to Nie Huaisang, I have to wonder why he thought bringing a bird into the salute ceremony was a good idea. Birds make noise—they tweet, flap their wings, try to escape cages! Anyway, it’s a goofy moment, but we got some cute expressions out of Xiao Zhan and some disdainful looks from Wang Yibo, so I can’t complain.
Tumblr media
Xiao Zhan does a really good job of looking very young here at the beginning: his mannerisms, his facial expressions, how he carries himself, all really creates this feeling of being young and carefree. On the other side, Wang Yibo (who is six years younger than Xiao Zhan) does an equally good job of portraying someone more severe, mature, elitist. Lan Wangji has a reputation for being above people—for creating an aura that implies other people aren’t worth his time. In fact, he doesn’t even have any friends, as we found out in the last episode.
Wangxian really suit each other, even before they know each other at all: Wei Wuxian has this light, carefree nature to his character, while Lan Wangji’s is darker, more austere.
Tumblr media
First of all, those fuckers. Gossiping about his lineage in full earshot of not only Jin Guangyao but also Jin Zixuan. This poor guy has practically clawed his way up to where he is, only to be an attendant to a clan that he has no blood relation to. His own father refuses to acknowledge him, his mother is gone, and these jerks gossiping—ugh! Hate it, regardless of who he grows to be later on in the series.
I really love Jin Guangyao and seeing how he changes from beginning to end is honestly a delight to watch. Like most of the characters, he seems so pure, so simple, such a kind person, and his relationship with Lan Xichen is something that you can’t devote enough time to. I think it gets shortchanged a little, but they only had 50 episodes, so I’ll take what I can get. Even in the book, I was left wanting to know more and see more about them (but I wouldn’t trade my wangxian content for that, so I guess I shouldn’t complain).
Last thing I want to say is, DIMPLES! Look at those adorable dimples!!
Tumblr media
This is so insane—he literally set this guy on fire! How can he get away with this?! Anyway, enter Draco Malfoy—I mean, Wen Chao. Ahem. This series wants to throw a lot of villains at you right away: we already have Wen Ruohan, Xue Yang, potentially Wen Qing (we don’t know at this point), and now we have Wen Chao. They’re really pushing the Wen Clan is bad agenda. And as if being generally rude and probably mentally unstable isn’t bad enough, Wen Chao literally sets fire to one of the Gusu Lan Clan disciples, while the other disciple basically does nothing about it (why is that guy so useless? Doesn’t he have some spiritual energy to throw at that magic fire?).
Wen Chao is one of those characters that I think most people love to hate. He’s so evil, so horrible, yet charming, in a way. He is a villain and he’s proud of it, y’know? There’s no ambiguity here about his actions, which is kind of refreshing in a series filled with grey characters (and I love grey characters, don’t get me wrong).
Oh! And I just noticed while I was saving that screenshot that Wen Ning can’t even look at what’s going on. Very accurate to his character—non-confrontational, just wants to float along and do as he’s told. Really shows he’s under the thumb of the Wen Clan. I also like how Wen Qing is the one to put out the flames. You get to see that healer side of her early on.
Tumblr media
Jiang Cheng and I had the same expression here—I really wanted to know what their gift to Lan Qiren was. If this is something in the book, well, then I’ve forgotten. Wei Wuxian and I have that trait in common: bad memory.
Tumblr media
LWJ: Bro, can I hit him?
LXH: Nah, bro.
I missed this on my first viewing—or just forgot, most likely. Lan Wangji is so poised and collected, but also so defensive. He’s the brother who will be the first to go on the offensive if he sees something wrong happening, which I love. But I also love Lan Xichen’s chill attitude—yes, this guy is clearly a troublemaker, and he’s dissing our clan, but let’s settle this in an adult manner. According to the wiki, Lan Xichen is only a few years older than Lan Wangji, but you can see that he is a lot more mature in just those few years. Like I said in the last episode, he kind of had to be a parent to his younger brother and set an example of how you should behave. Of course, he’s also the clan leader, so he can’t really act like a spitfire.
Tumblr media
Of course, if anyone is more defensive than Lan Wangji, it’s Wei Wuxian. Even though Lan Wangji has been a bit of a pain in the ass to him, Wei Wuxian still rushes to their defense. Even this early on, he’s started to form an attachment to the Gusu Lan Clan, whether he’s really aware of it or not. I’m wearing my wangxian goggles, but the “you offended the Jiang Clan because my brother was in the middle of his salute” kind of feels like an afterthought.
But of course it’s in Wei Wuxian’s character to be heroic like this—to rush to the defense of others, whether it’s asked for or not, and I don’t get the feeling that Lan Wangji disapproves of this. I think he takes note of this and future events, adding it to what he’s compiled of what makes Wei Wuxian tick. And by this time, I think he’s also decided to give Wei Wuxian another chance—Lan Xichen has planted the seed in his mind that he could be a good friend to Lan Wangji.
Tumblr media
I know he’s not supposed to be gay.
I know.
But…come on. The way he’s looking at Lan Xichen right now—it’s a look certainly of deep admiration and respect. And there’s not a hint of jealously either, even though Jin Guangyao has every reason to be jealous of Lan Xichen: the respect he commands is great—he can even subdue the Wen Clan. But instead of hating Lan Xichen, Jin Guangyao instead becomes close friends with him, very much a parallel to Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian. Fascinating! These characters are so rich—so many layers, so much to talk about!
Tumblr media
The first time I watched this, I was so annoyed with Nie Huaisang—any additional scenes that were added just drove me crazy. But now, having watched it all, I actually really appreciate these moments of comic relief, even the ones that are unique to CQL. As the series progresses, it gets darker and darker, and these lighter moments are honestly precious when you know what’s coming.
Tumblr media
Someone explain to me why Jiang Yanli is making soup when meals are being provided to them? Yes, we know she takes care of her brothers, but why is it always her making soup? This is the first of many soup scenes, and at a certain point, it’s like beating a dead horse. I actually would have appreciated a little scene of them eating Gusu Lan Clan food and getting to see Wei Wuxian complain about it. I wouldn’t mind a disapproving look from Lan Wangji at overhearing it either.
Tumblr media
Yeah, remember when I was saying Lan Wangji was taking note of the good things Wei Wuxian did? Well, he’s also very aware of how naughty he is. At the beginning, Wei Wuxian’s good traits are heavily outweighed by his transgressions, though, by comparison, they are minor ones. It’s ironic that later on Lan Wangji will overlook major transgressions without a second thought. Shows what a deep relationship they are able to cultivate.
Tumblr media
I feel like, in a way, this is Wei Wuxian’s way of apologizing for offending him earlier—like, I’m being cute, Lan Zhan! Obviously it only makes Lan Wangji more annoyed, but it’s the thought that counts, right? Wei Wuxian is really testing boundaries here. He has such a fixation on Lan Wangji, one that definitely annoys Jiang Cheng (and makes him jealous to boot, in my opinion), but it works to his advantage, since Lan Wangji can’t really keep his eyes off of Wei Wuxian either. And the circumstances that follow just keep drawing them together.
Tumblr media
After Wei Ying gets told to leave the lecture and go to the Library Pavilion, he doesn’t look at anyone except Lan Wangji. I wonder if he wants to know Lan Wangji’s reaction—is it disappointment, anger, something else? Whatever it is, he wants Lan Wangji’s attention—that’s what he seeks above anything else. You could argue that he doesn’t look at Jiang Cheng or Jiang Yanli because he knows they’re disappointed or upset with him, and I think that’s fair. And maybe he doesn’t seek their attention because he knows he has it—but he doesn’t feel like he’s gotten Lan Wangji’s attention here and that bothers him.

Episode 26: The One where the Rain is Actually the Fandom’s Endless Tears
We start off the episode with the awful reminder that su she exists; it’s terrible, we all hate it
Lwj is the one who reminds us, which makes it both better and worse
At least lwj is looking nice in his pale blue robes
Non-wangxian nonsense happens
Brief moment to admire jc’s fashion
More non-wangxian stuff happens
Ooooh, now we get to watch jin zixun be an asshole again, but with the bonus of having a little bit of wangxiantics!!
Jz goes to our lan bros and starts talking to them
(how dare he be anywhere near their presence?? YOU ARE UNWORTHY OF BREATHING THE SAME AIR AS HANGUANG-JUN, YOU ASSHOLE)
He tells lxc to take a shot with him even tho everyone and their mother knows lans don’t drink alcohol
Alcohol is Forbidden
But there he goes, peer pressuring the heck out of lxc, like, oh, if you don’t take a shot it’ll be an insult to me and my clan blah blah
And everyone agrees with him?? For some reason??? As if forcing someone everyone knows doesn’t imbibe into taking a shot isn’t rude af??? FUCK YOU JZ
Lxc capitulates way too easily imo and takes the shot
Lwj watches this go down out of the corner of his eye, and when lxc drinks, his eyes flick away (as if ashamed? Disappointed? Idk, but it wasn’t a positive feeling i know i was definitely disappointed)
Then jz goes and does the same to lwj
It’s awful but LET’S TAKE A MOMENT TO ADMIRE LWJ
LWJ looks at the offered drink just long enough to make sure EVERYONE KNOWS HE KNOWS IT’S THERE
AND THEN RETURNS TO GAZING STEADILY FORWARD
like, yes, i’m ignoring you aND I WANT YOU TO KNOW IT
I LOVE YOU HANGUANG-JUN!!!!!!
And just before this becomes a diplomatic incident, we see a hand reach out and take the shot glass from jz!
Wwx: i’ll drink for him. Is that okay?”
And he downs the shot before anyone can say anything (showing off the lovely expanse of his neck and we all appreciate that or at least I do)!!! He even flips the shot glass upside down to show that he emptied it completely!!!
WWX PULLED AN LWJ-MOVE AND SWOOPED IN TO SAVE HIS SOULMATE FROM HAVING TO SACRIFICE HIS PERSONAL IDEALS
THAT’S ~TRUE LOVE~ BABY
And lwj’s expression, omg. I can’t even describe it?? Awed gratitude bc of the rescue?? Stunned attraction bc of seeing wwx expose his neck so indecently?? I’m totally not projecting that last part, maybe, i think
For real tho, it looks like lwj was walloped with the strength of his love for wwx
As if seeing wwx do that for him gave him an abrupt reminder of how overpoweringly in love he is with him
It’s beautiful
Now there’s a jz vs. wwx showdown
It’s super stressful and Important to the Plot
So we’re glossing over most of it!!
But let's MARVEL how wwx totally owns the jin clan
Jz: you really think you’re so invincible you can overturn the heavens?
Wwx: are you comparing yourself to the heavens? With all due respect, you have a really thick face
Lol, “with all due respect” = 0 respect. Jz you deserve ZERO RESPECT YOU ASSHOLE
Wwx is putting these gold-robed bastards on the spot and it’s AAMAAAAZZING
Wwx: do you think that now that the Evil Wens are gone, the Jin clan should naturally take over? So that everything should be given to you and everyone should follow your orders??
I LOVE MY BOY. LOOK AT MY SUNSHINE BOY BURN THE FUCK OUT THESE DOUCHEBAGS
HE’S ALL “WHY ARE YOU BOOING ME?? I’M RIGHT”
BECAUSE HE IS. HE IS RIGHT.
Lwj says his name worriedly here; he knows wwx is getting himself into some deep trouble here
More Plotty Confrontation happens…
And then wwx loses his patience, and gets ready to draw his demon flute
Everyone in the banquet hall jumps to their feet and readies their swords bc they are scared shitless. Wwx doesn’t even acknowledge them. His focus is all on jz
Wwx: if i kill you today, won’t it be justified by your standards?
(for the viewers keeping track at home, that brings the score to wwx = 3, jin clan = 0)
LOOK AT MY BOY GO
Lwj: Wei Ying!
Lwj calls him practically in a panic
I mean, he only says his name slightly more forcefully than usual, but in lwj-speak that means PANIC
Ahhhh, i LOVE this next line. It's a great line. I mean, it’s an absolute terrible line for wwx’s future wellbeing, BUT STILL
Wwx: if I, wei wuxian, want to kill someone, who can stop me? Who dares to stop me?
HE IS FURIOUS
RESENTMENT IS FLARING EVERYWHERE
Lwj: wei ying, put down the demon flute!!
He’s so worried for his soulmate!!!!
wwx starts a countdown to get the info he wants
🎶IT’S THE FINAL COUNTDOWN~!🎶 Sorry sorry, not appropriate but i’m stressed, LET ME HAVE THIS
Wwx: everyone knows i’m not patient. You have until the count of three…
He makes it to two until jz gives in and finally finally tells wwx the info he’s looking for (aka where the wen labor camp is)
Wwx: why didn’t you say so earlier?
Lol, he says it all calm and easy and leaves the banquet hall with a confident swagger (which brings the final score to wwx = 5, jin clan = 0 AND THE CROWD GOES WILD, AHHHHH!!)
BUT you can see on his face that he knows how badly he handled this situation
He knows he’s just screwed himself over
Depressing Plot Things happen
So lets see lwj defend his soulmate to make us feel better!
Jgy: wwx is too impulsive. How could he say such things in front of the gentries
He says that to lxc, trying to turn him against wwx!! That scummy bastard!!!
Lwj: isn’t what he said right?
I LOVE YOU HANGUANG-JUN
Jgy: well, yeah, i guess, but he can’t just say that to everyone’s faces!!
Lxc: wwx’s temperament has changed a lot recently
LXC I AM ASHAMED TO KNOW YOU. YOU GIVE IN LIKE A WET PAPER TOWEL. GROW A SPINE (i still love you tho)
Lwj bows to lxc right after that and lxc dismisses him from the banquet hall with a sad smile
Lxc: go and do your best
BC HE KNOWS HIS LITTLE BROTHER
HE KNOWS HOW MUCH LWJ LOVES WWX AND HOW MUCH HE WANTS TO PROTECT HIM
MORE DEPRESSING PLOT THINGS HAPPEN
Like, Super Depressing
Like, “violating Geneva Conventions” Depressing
It’s really really awful
Because now we’re at a labor camp
We get to see wq lose her mind as she finds her little brother’s body
AND BECAUSE I VALUE MY SANITY WE’RE NOT GONNA GO INTO THAT ANY MORE
I HATE THIS. I HATE THIS SO MUCH
THEY DIDN’T DESERVE THIS
THEY’RE GOOD PEOPLE. WHY DID THIS HAPPEN TO THEM
*SOBBING*
WEN NING STILL HAD THE PROTECTIVE CHARM WWX GAVE HIM IN HIS HAAAANDDD
WHY IS EVERYTHING TERRIBLE ALL THE TIME
We do get a badass scene where wwx STEADILY WALKS BACK THROUGH THE CAMP PLAYING HIS DEMON FLUTE TO CONFRONT THE JIN GUARDS
CALMLY CONTROLLING ALL THAT RESENTFUL ENERGY THAT’S JUST POURING OFF OF HIM
The jin guards are begging for their lives and still have the gall to lie about killing their prisoners??
“Do you really think I can’t tell that you’re lying?”
Wwx is so angry here, he isn’t even raising his voice
Some idiot here has the nerve to remind wwx that his clan and their clan are allies
And wwx’s all “bold of you to assume i care about clan politics”
Throughout it all we see resentment curling and misting around his shoulders
God damn, it looks so cool
“Since you won’t admit to it, i’ll let wen ning point it out himself”
AND THE GHOST GENERAL MAKES HIS FIRST APPEARANCE IN HISTORY BY SLAMMING INTO THE SCENE LIKE A BOSS
LOOK AT MY DARLING ZOMBIE BOY GO, TOSSING THOSE JIN BASTARDS AROUND LIKE NOTHING
Stuff happens and those jin guards make a run for it
Outside the camp we see lwj walking with his umbrella in the rain and he knocks one of the jin bastards back with his sheathed bichen and demands to know what happened
While he’s getting the rundown, wwx gathers up the wen prisoners and mounts them on horses to flee
THERE’S NO TURNING BACK FROM HERE
OH GOD MY HEART
They’re riding off and SUDDENLY WE SEE THEM RUN INTO LWJ
LWJ WHO IS STANDING THERE ALL ALONE IN THE RAIN WITH HIS UMBRELLA
AS ~THEIR SONG~ STARTS PLAYING MOURNFULLY IN THE BACKGROUND
SHOW WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO ME, WHY DO YOU HURT ME THIS WAY
Oh god, the way the camera travels from an overhead view downward to slowly reveal lwj’s face under that frankly beautiful umbrella
MY HEART MY HEART
HIS FACE, LOOK AT HIS FACE AS HE LOOKS AT WWX AND THE PRISONERS HE RESCUED
HE WANTS SO DESPERATELY TO SAVE WWX FROM WHATEVER IS COMING NEXT BC HE KNOWS IT’S NOT GONNA BE GOOD
BUT HE HAS NO IDEA WHAT TO DO HERE???
This shot is beautiful in a heart-rending way
Wwx on his black, agitated horse, soaked to the bone, restlessly moving and placed farther away from the audience
And lwj, practically glowing in his pale blue robes under his pale umbrella, standing still and strong as a statue, placed much closer to the audience
Wwx: lan zhan, are you here to stop me?
Lwj: wei ying, where are you going?
Wwx: i have no idea but the world is wide. There must be a place for us.
“US,” HE SAID “US”
WWX HAS ALREADY CHOSEN HIS SIDE.
HE’S FOREVER WITH THE WEN REMNANTS NOW
MY SUNSHINE BOY IS TOO GOOD FOR HIS OWN GOOD
OH GOD WHY
Lwj: you need to think again. If you do this, it will be considered a rebellion against the orthodoxy with no way back.
LWJ CAN’T SAY WHAT HE MEANS. JUST SAY THAT YOU’RE WORRIED FOR HIS SAFETY, DAMN IT.
HE KNOWS HE’S LOSING WWX AND HE’S TERRIFIED
HE DOESN’T KNOW WHAT TO DO
Wwx: a rebellion against orthodoxy? What kind of orthodoxy is that?
Wwx: lan zhan, do you still remember that promise we made together?
THIS IS WHERE THE EPISODE ENDS
I AM DROWNING IN MY TEARS
MY HEART IS SHATTERED ON THE FLOOR
LWJ WAS TEARY-EYED THROUGHOUT THAT ENCOUNTER
HIS WORLD IS FALLING APART
AND WWX IS DOING WHAT HE THINKS IS RIGHT
BUT YOU CAN SEE HOW SCARED HE IS OF WHAT HE IS DOING
BC DOING THE RIGHT THING IS NOT ALWAYS EASY AND SOMETIMES IT’S DOWNRIGHT TERRIFYING
I HATE THIS SHOW
STOP MAKING ME FEEL SO MUCH!!!

MO DAO ZU SHI REREAD:Thoughts™️....and Stuff
Chapter 37
Ljy volunteers to use his blood to summon more mannequins, after which a bunch of juniors start to volunteer theirs
Wwx is SO fucking cool....
Xy giving wwx advice while acting like xxc makes me sick, thanks
I hate how good he is at acting like xxc, he has wwx completely convinced
“Jin Ling laughed at him without holding back at all. Even Lan SiZhui couldn’t stop himself from bursting with a “pfft”. Speechless, Wei WuXian turned to look at them, and Lan SiZhui put on a straight face at once.” Jsnck i love lsz
God i feel so bad about sl and xxc, A-Qing too
“As the cultivator heard the sound, despite how his figure reeled and his hands trembled, he still attacked at Wei WuXian! He couldn’t be controlled. This corpse had a master!” This is still so chilling
...wwx rewarded the nether brawlers by giving them his blood
“On the cultivator’s left chest, near his heart, there was a similar tearing, a similar thin, narrow wound. It seemed as if he died with a stab through the heart.” I fucking hate xue yang ☺️
“Wei WuXian pinched his cheeks and forced him to open his mouth. Inside, his tongue had also been pulled out from the root.” Hate him so much ☺️☺️☺️
Was lsz the only one to raise his hand from the lan clan? Is he the only one of the juniors that knew inquiry? Im asking for... yanno... reasons
“Xiao XingChen’s most intimate friend of cultivation, Song Lan?!” Yes that one, the one he gouged out both of his eyes for
“‘SiZhui, you’re the most sensible one here. Guide them a bit, won’t you? Can you do that?’ Lan SiZhui nodded. Wei WuXian added, ‘Don’t be scared.’ Lan SiZhui, ‘I am not.’ ‘Really?’ ‘Really.’ Lan SiZhui smiled, ‘Senior, you are so much like HanGuang-Jun.’” this exchange ko’d me, like knocked me clean tf out. Wwx reassuring him gently, lsz smiling and telling him hes not scared, lsz saying wwx is a lot like lwj
“‘Us? How are we alike?’ They were obviously like fire and ice. However, Lan SiZhui only grinned in reply, and led the rest of the group out.” I am crying
“It is as though if either one of the two seniors are present, I will not need to be scared or worry about anything.” 😭😭😭😭😭
Hmmmm when did xy find out it was wwx????
Oh it was the whistling that made him suspicious, and then how powerful his Summoning of Painted Eyes was, gotcha
“When they were still alive, the person probably suffered from a lot of torture. It should’ve been rather painful. They probably committed suicide, so they probably don’t want to come back to this world. If a soul itself doesn’t have any desire to live, then it’ll most likely be impossible to save.” Yanno i dont think its ever explicitly talked about how wwx died, and im not trying to be angsty here, but his soul literally couldn’t be summoned, by anybody....
I hate xue yang!!!!!
Fuck you, dont give xy cute canines, he doesnt deserve them. Me and wwx however....
“I have a very famous friend. His acting is what I’d call excellent. I still have a long way to go.” Xy is literally talking about jgy right here
Xy made the nails that were controlling wn, which meant he put them in wn’s head, which means id like to resurrect xy just to kill him again
“Wei WuXian really couldn’t understand why strangers always had an inexplicable sense of confidence in place of him.”
WEN NING!!!!
AHHHHH FUCK HIM UP BABY
“Wen Ning is not a thing.” From wwx himself, people
Maybe if you wanted xxc’s soul, you shouldnt have, idk, forced him to kill innocent people and his best friend against his knowledge and drove him to suicide, just a thought, Xue Yang
Lwj is strong
“Before he finished his sentence, a white-robed figure descended from the sky. Bichen’s icy blue glare swept at him.” Lwj desending from the sky looking like an angel
(chapter 38 & chapter 39 below the cut)
Chapter 38
“Surrounded by an ambience of frost and ice, Lan WangJi stood in front of Wei WuXian.”
“The glare of the sword that he pulled from his sleeve was grim and dark. As it was wielded, it almost seemed to emit a black aura, creating a stark contrast with Shuanghua’s silver radiance.” 😩 Jiangzai 😩
Gotta give it too him, xy is a talented swordsman
So does wn feel pain or does he not feel pain, pick one
“‘Good. If anyone doesn’t listen to me, I’ll feed him congee again.’ The few boys who had encountered the taste pretended as if they were vomiting.” This interaction....
Lan WangJi, you’re so cool 😩
Jl’s admiration for his senior cultivators is just..... so cute
“‘Hmm. He’s good. Of course. He’s really good. He’s the best.’ As he talked, he couldn’t help but break into a smile.” Stoooooop
God wwx just shouting to lwj that hes gonna leave, and its up to him now, and lwj just agreeing, wwx laughing....like the trust, the belief in the other’s abilities, the ease with which they communicate even in tense situations
“Why did you two not say ‘I’m worried about you. I’m staying!’, ‘Go!’, ‘No! I’m not going! If I’m going, you’re going with me!’? Is it not a must?” Ljy really knows what’s going on between them, why else would he say something like this???
“It’s a waste of time. I believe that someone as reliable as HanGuang-Jun will definitely be able to deal with it.” Aknfnc like yeah lwj is known to be strong, but wwx completely trusts in his abilities, like he’s not overly worried or protective like a lot of partners tend to be, he just trusts him
“With both of his feet together, he tried to jump outside. However, since the threshold was too high, he failed every attempt.” This is hilarious, and the juniors thought so too
Wwx respects non-cultivators
A-Qing grabs xxc’s face and cries when his coffin is opened 😢
Interesting that wwx invented Empathy, a way for you to...well empathize with spirits in a way that you couldn’t before, and people still think it’s an evil method
“Wei WuXian stared at the bell for a few moments. Sensing that he looked a bit off, Jin Ling asked, ‘What?’ Wei WuXian replied, ‘Nothing.’” Wow.....that hurted
Hmmmm hate xue yang
“Since they felt the same things, it was as though the squeeze landed on Wei WuXian’s body. Instantaneously, Wei WuXian felt as if a blanket of goosebumps climbed over his heart. He wanted no less than to slam the man into the ground.” And if he could’ve, i bet he would’ve
Oh, Xiao XingChen....
Chapter 39
He’s so kind...
Actually A-Qing was 100% in the right, she should have kept that mans money
Have i mentioned how gross it is that a grown man groped A-Qing, who wwx describes as looking no older than 15 years old, because its gross
It makes me so fucking angry the things xy did, and the reason he was so good at imitating xxc
“Although she didn’t know whether he was dead or alive, most likely thinking that it’d be a drag either way, she obviously didn’t want Xiao XingChen to find the person.” A-Qing...
“Of course, a dead person was less of a hassle than a living one, so A-Qing couldn’t wait for the person to die.” Alfnfjfkb A-Qing wtf....
She was right though, i wish he would’ve just died too but here we are
It shouldve been A-Qing getting that piggy back ride
Xxc deserved so much better.....
Xxc is so sweet, it makes what happened to him even worse
Xy having a casual conversation with xxc and making him laugh is actually making me sick
A-Qing is smart to be wary of xy, to eavesdrop and follow them
I hate Xue Yang!!!!! So much!!!! He’s pure evil!!! Hes not evil in a fun way, hes for real evil, causes-suffering-for-entertainment type evil!!!

In light of CQL Ending spoilers ~
In continuation to my post from yesterday, I have to really thank those who actually came and replied to me, because it gives me another insight to this ending, in a positive light, so really thank you! ~
Honestly to me, I never doubted the person who called out “Wei Ying” at the end was Lan Zhan, because of (1) to (3) points made on my post yesterday.
However, I just needed clarification if there was indeed a ‘time-skip’ between the scene when Wei Ying and Lan Zhan bid their farwell on top of the mountain to the scene at the end, when Wei Ying turned around after hearing Lan Zhan called out his name. Thankfully through other fans analyzing these scenes, and some who responded to my post, I came to understand the whole sequence a lot better now. Now, knowing it's a time-skip, I can just take it that Lan Zhan did what he needs to do before setting off to be with Wei Ying at the end.
I believe that at first, Lan Zhan did have the intention to travel with Wei Ying on his end, in this scene, as they were eloping setting out together with Lil Apple:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But after Sizhui and Wen Ning came, and they have their little reunion, when Sizhui and Lan Zhan was talking to each other here:
Tumblr media
I believe through the conversation which Lan Zhan and Lan Sizhui had, it actually made Lan Zhan think that he shouldn’t be too selfish and that there are things that needs to be done still, so that’s why when Wen Ning and Sizhui left, Lan Zhan decided that he can’t set off together with Wei Ying, yet (yeah, I added ‘yet’ in to emphasize ‘not yet’, but there will come a day, which is at the very end).
Honestly, from Wangxian perspective and on a personal level, that scene is still disappointing for me, because I still wish they will stay together and do this together, but looking at this from a different angle, I can understand if I treat this as an AU setting. It is without a doubt a heart-breaking scene still, because you can see that Wei Ying didn’t have that intention at first to walk separate paths with Lan Zhan, and thus it really shows that he wish for Lan Zhan to stay by his side because he was saying where they should go next. You can also see it through his expression when he know Lan Zhan didn’t want to go with him [This is why it’s so heart-breaking]. I really don’t think it’s within canon Lan Zhan to want this separate paths, so I still firmly believe canon(Novel!)LWJ isn’t like this, so I am treating this as an AU here.
On my end, I do believe that Wei Ying wanted them to night hunt together for the rest of their lives, just like how he once told Xiao Xingchen in the past, how he admired Xiao Xingchen and Song Lan relationship, and hope that he and Lan Zhan can night hunt together like this one day, so I believe this is Wei Ying's wish at the end of all this, but sadly, Lan Zhan wasn't ready, so Wei Ying can only respect Lan Zhan's decision, and not be selfish about all this, so, he let Lan Zhan go.
I don't want to believe Lan Zhan love Wei Ying any less, because of this decision, but more of he can't just leave like this without ensuring that everything is well, so he tries to prioritize what other needs over what he really wants, before setting off again. Just like Wei Ying said, he is indeed "HanGuang Jun", I also like to believe that in their temporary separation, both Lan Zhan and Wei Ying misses each other every day, and yeah, I’m going to head-canon that in CQL, when Lan Zhan went to visit his brother, his brother, who saw through Lan Zhan feelings/heart, told Lan Zhan that he should just follow his heart so he will not have any regrets in the future, and telling Lan Zhan that he can rest assured that everything will be alright here (or something), so that gives him a peace of mind in setting off to be with Wei Ying at the very end.
So looking at this from an AU setting, I came to appreciate it, because it is alluring, at the same time, it's romantic to me, because, every time Wei Ying plays their song (Wangxian), it's a song that connects him to Lan Zhan, and a song that allows Lan Zhan to find him again, no matter how far apart they may be. Afterall, this is their love song. So yeah, I don’t hold it against them for not revealing the song name, we know what the song name is (i.e. Wangxian). They can’t reveal this because it's something that is romantically canon, so censorship forbids it
For me personally, I do love that scene at the very end when Wei Ying played their song (Wangxian), because it gives a powerful feeling showing us how much he misses Lan Zhan on his end, that's why when he heard a familiar voice called out his name: "Wei Ying", he was surprised, and when he turned around, and saw that person, he was happy, and he have that smile on his face (kudos to you Xiao Zhan for great acting here!!!), where we know he smiled because Lan Zhan returned to him again in the end, and this reminded me to what Xiao Zhan once said: "In the end he's still smiling cause the light he has been waiting for has finally arrived" And how can that not be romantic? I mean just this sentence alone, I can conclude that Lan Zhan is his light, and that Wei Ying has been waiting for him (on his end), whether Lan Zhan returns to him or not, this is how Wei Ying feels on his end, so when Lan Zhan came back to him in the end, Wei Ying shows that smile because he was happy. They can finally be together. Nothing will stop them from being together, even when this is all off-screen and left for our interpretation. So, how I feel about this whole ending now? CQL! Wangxian to me, is romantic still. They are indeed SOULMATES, I feel like they are two people who really love each other, but didn't have the courage to confess/take that step further (because of the so-called annoying censorship), so they are content to stay like this (just the two of them) night hunting for the rest of their lives, so personally, I will always love the ending in the novel better (Wangxian ending in the novel is 10/10 for me) :P, because that's more fulfilling to me. But in an AU and looking at this from an adaptation side of things, I still think the script-writers did a great job in giving us an ending, where Lan Zhan can return to Wei Ying, even when I wanted like an extra 10 second, of showing Lan Zhan standing beside Wei Ying, but oh well, I'll take him calling "Wei Ying" over nothing at all.
So let me revised my rating to this drama, now that I have a better insight, it’s now 7.5/10 for me.
