Dr. Who/Batman crossover?

But where Batman/Bruce is the Doctor?

I mostly like this idea because of the regeneration possibilities; maybe Adam West Batman (Batwest???) regenerates into Michael Keaton Batman (Batton?????) regenerates into Batbale into Batfleck into Battinson.

But it doesn't have to be in order!

I was thinking that each regeneration would have its adventures and such with one Robin, as tends to be the case with the Doctor and his companions. Dick would start us off, and maybe his best fit would be with one of the slightly darker versions of the Bat, like Keaton or Bale. When Dick grows up and decides he needs his own path, maybe there's a delay after we meet Jason before Bruce regenerates into West or Affleck. Then afterwards, when Jason is gone and before we get Tim, we get Pattinson.

I just think there's a lot to do here with how each Robin influences each regeneration, as well as all of the cookey sci-fi, the death-defying adventures, the time travel, and the planet-of-hats enemies.

Quick update—or un-update—on the plushie situation.

My first pick manufacturer has turned out to be the business equivalent of a flake partner in a group project. A solid month of waiting for a reply to a basic estimate query, two copy-paste replies that said an actual person would Get Back to Me Soon! [INSERT MULTI-WEEK DEAD SILENCE AFTER BOTH] and a phone number in their official contact page that goes nowhere. I only recently discovered through their phone-version homepage that they’re ~AI-Driven and Streamlined~. So, uh. Might explain a few things.

I am hunting for other makers now. Hopefully ones that can at least provide an entire human being to interact with for questions.

In the interim, have some more design roughs!

one of the better parts of my grad program have been a set of classes called "Scientist’s Toolbox", the purpose of which was basically making sure we won’t become mad antisocial scientists (or at least decrease the probability).

Some of them were about science ethics and science methodology and the philosophical underpinnings of Why Science Is Inherently Biased actually (very cool classes!), some were more about the social component of conducting classes, talking to people, making public presentations and such.

And then one, called "Conversation and Concepts", was a class that was built all around making us think independently about the world and the meaning of life. Which I can see the value of for technical students, who generally tend to be all "pragmatist atheist fully rational no emotions", which is not a healthy perspective to take.

And there was one guy, one grad student. Who said. That sometimes he wished he could live in the Ancient Rome tending to his farm all Cicero style. And he thinks living in Ancient Rome was better.

Aside from the antibiotics of it all. Ancient Rome had slaves. And this guy just assumed that he would be a patrician, I guess, or at least a Roman citizen of some means, with no second thought. And he could tend to his farm and his extremely straight marriage. I used to be obsessed with ancient Rome as a kid and, granted, the stories I’ve read were pretty sensationalized and there WAS the Cicero trend of patricians dreaming of a simple life, but I remember it’s history being full of political turmoil for at least a half of its length, and generally way more complex and sometimes brutal. Our visions of this period couldn’t be more different.

And some time ago I started watching the anime about hot springs on netflix and I couldn’t continue after a single episode because it was exactly that. It was this guy’s version of Rome. No political scheming or littered streets, just extremely straight and whitewashed (I know it’s an anime but those guys live in the Mediterranean region, you can’t convince me they look like this) fantasy about building Thermae or farming and being a stoic gigachad.

one thing i love about universes with feral/quadrupedal animals is when they redesign items familiar to us to better fit characters who don't have hands. like year they can't wear bags the same way we do so they instead have harnesses/saddles like this cause of course they would:

or using latch doorknobs OR EVEN swinging doors being more commonplace. animals like cats and dogs can open those easier in real life so translating that into a fictional world is a fun idea. why would a world full of mainly no-thumb-havers even bother with round knobs lol

oooo or the issue of sanitation because if you are using your paw/hooves/etc to walk....are you expected to wash them anytime you use them like hands or does the general population just ignore that because "hell we all do it". is there a mix of reactions because of cultural differences? how do winged creatures like bats and birds deal with...any of this????

all the unique ways they could build weapons and armor...do they have artificial horns or claws they could put on? how practical would a wielding a sword/spear via your mouth be???

also when everything like architecture or furniture is scaled down or altered for quads. is super fun visually as well. it makes my brain go: ":)" every single time

I have a big google doc thing where I keep track of media and stuff (putting everything in loosely ranked categories), which is mostly just for my own reference so I know what tv shows I've already seen before, etc. and I never really look back through it, typically just a quick "okay, watched two movie in the past 8 months, need to quickly slap them somewhere in the lists. okay. done. save document. exit". But today I was actually reading through some of the old notes and there are like... MULTIPLE places where my comment is basically "It would have been good if it were about elves" or "I wish there was a fantasy show made in this same style" or "It's well made, but I just keep thinking about how I would like it more if everyone was an elf or was in old 1700s costumes" or etc like...... lol.... Most biased media ranking system on earth blatantly made by someone with an extremely hyperspecific range of narrow interests. It'd be like if a food reviewer only had 5 foods they actually liked, so they'd just go to a pizza place and be like "eh, the pizza was okay, but I just think it would be better if it was cereal instead. :/ ...2 out of 10"

i just rewatched rvb s17 bc its a really good comfort season. i love the donut centric arc so fucking much - how donut inspired Wash, Tucker, and the rest of the guys. it’s so amazing to see the comic relief being just as valued as everyone else.

with that being said. i just…. can i just say, god, i am SO proud of doc?

like, doc’s whole arc of:

1. being entirely forgotten and a COMPLETE pushover who was known for being used as a shill for Omega

2. being traumatized to the point of splitting into a system

3. utilizing o’malley to stand up for himself and be brave

4. being overshadowed and overtaken by o’malley

5. acknowledging his strength and autonomy of his own body WITH o’malley in it as an aid

this is yet another random academia nitpick i won’t let go of for weeks but someone in the comments of the victor ninov broccumentary claimed that science is a “incredible field that can’t be simplified to storytelling like this” because “it goes against human nature to do” and writing good sci comm goes against scientific integrity.

and the whole statement is incredibly stupid but in true anthropologist fashion i must say what on earth about science goes against human nature. the desire to test a phenomenon and revise your theories based on the results is literally one of the benchmarks for early modern humans. this is the behavior in corvid’s (tool use) that people loose their shit over. communicating findings to others?? collaborative work to reach an arbitrary goal that won’t necessarily have a direct benefit on your immediate life???? that’s how we domesticated staple crops dumbass. it’s science all the way down

but i keep seeing that soap would make a great dad and that he absolutely would want at least one kid with his partner, and i fully agree, but what if his partner couldn’t have kids? i think about this a lot as someone who can’t and gets discouraged when i see it in a fic where it’s not tagged

Well, if it helps you at all, I actually disagree—I don’t really see Soap as someone who would want kids. I think he’s perfectly content to be a cool uncle to his nieces and nephews, absolutely enthusiastic about sleepovers and taking the kids out camping or on little field trips and whatnot, but he has no ambitions of fathering his own children. He’s absolutely dedicated to his work—he doesn’t think it would be fair to a kid to make them live with what he does. And he, like me, would probably also think that a kid should be wanted, not just accepted as an inevitability in the event of surprise pregnancy.

I imagine he grew up in a loud, busy, but intensely loving family, and found it a little surprising as he became an adult that not everyone had that blessing. That probably got him thinking a lot about whether people had kids because they wanted to or because they just thought that they should, and then he probably asked himself—“what do I really want?”

So, maybe at one point Soap did want kids, very genuinely, but I think it’s plausible that as he got older, as he saw how ugly a lot of the world is, he reconsidered, and was a little relieved for it.

hello, friends!!

something occurred to me a little while back - we all know that clover absolutely adores butterflies, right? well, we also know (from her exit interview) that she also has an affinity for jellyfish! there's a good chance that this was just a random animal chosen for her to like besides butterflies, but i wondered if there was something more behind that decision...

and then i remembered what moon jellies look like:

wouldn't you know it, they have a little clover shape on top! that got me thinking about clover's beloved butterflies...

to some extent, actual butterflies are clover-shaped as well (having four lobes); the queen alexandra's birdwing pictured here is particularly clover-like. but cartoon butterflies - such as those clover is friends with - are a perfect clover shape!

it's interesting that clover should be so attached to creatures that remind her of herself...

clover was certainly self-centered very frequently during her time on the show, even if this was never malicious - there are plenty of instances where everyone else was struggling but clover was oblivious to that fact because her luck pulled her through so easily. aside from that, she didn't notice the direct harm of her luck until it majorly injured someone!

all of this is to say that clover was very much locked into her clovery perspective most of the time; understanding other people's situations and relating to them did not come naturally to her. it's as if, as a lucky four-leaf clover herself, her eyes tended to be blind to all but other lucky four-leaf clovers - such as jellyfish and butterflies, in that literal sense. she gravitated towards things like herself, because that's really all she knew. of course, now, she knows more: about herself and about the people around her.

perhaps i am just looking too far into this jellyfish-butterfly thing, and perhaps i am just using this as an excuse to talk about clover's character and writing... but either way i found this interesting haha :)
