DPXDC prompt #4
Justice League and the batfamily had been investigating an abandoned city, or as it was more known… The Second Chernobyl, Amity Park.
They had been standing in the middle for a while, the only interesting thing being a strange stone statue of a teen hero sitting on the ground while staring at the sky, looking resigned and sadly accepting his fate. The creepy thing about it was that the statue looked too real to be an ordinary thing, and the heroes agreed with Red Hood when he said he had a feeling the thing was alive.
Everything seemed normal, and no explanation for why people abandoned the city in a hurry 50 years ago.
Until Red Hood got hurt while playing with one of his knives, his blood hitting the statue.
The stone started cracking and falling apart, blinding light coming out of the cracks. The heroes had to cover their eyes to not get permanently blinded when the light died.
The heroes were greeted by the sight of a glowing teen hero with white hair, tanned skin, and glowing green eyes, wearing a black and white kevlar jumpsuit. Rings of white light appeared around the teen, splitting and traveling through his body, changing him.
It looked like something out of anime.
The teen was unconscious when freed from his prison, almost falling into the ground if not for Red Hood.
Jason didn't know where this feeling came from, but he felt instantly protective of the boy.
(Idk what I'm doing... @stealingyourbones what do you think?)

Mary Todd pt 8
ao3 Beginning Previous
Marinette set her phone down with a click, as she gazed out at the Gotham skyline from her balcony. It really was a beautiful city. The gothic architecture was both intimidating and comforting, like soldiers standing outside the door protecting the treasure within. Marinette considered how this dark and commanding city, was filled with dark and commanding energy, being protected by a dark and commanding guardian. A guardian who was her only connection to her brother.
Marinette closed her eyes as she felt her mind begin to spiral. She groaned as she turned from the skyline and slunk inside. She had been spiraling on and off ever since she had met Batman and Red Hood on the Watchtower. One minute she was eating breakfast, and then the next minute she was fighting the strange storm of anger and self-deprecation that swirled inside with increased vigor every time she thought about her brother and him being here in Gotham.
She was angry. 15 years, and she had never heard a word from either of them. They, both of them, most definitely had the resources to find her and connect with her. They had found her! And they had decided to hide her and hide from her. Marinette began to pace in frustration as Tikki and Plagg shared looks of concern.
She was worried. The brother that existed on the very edges of her memory would have never let their separation stretch this long. And yet he had. And the rumors and whispers that surrounded Red Hood…Something had happened to him. Something that had shaken him to the core and had changed him. Something had made him want to forget about her.
She was confused. Logically, mentally, Marinette knew that she couldn’t have done anything to drive Jay-Jay away. She had been three years old when they had been separated, and he had loved her then. She didn’t remember much of anything from back then. But she did remember that. She remembered that her brother had loved her. But at some point, between then and now, that had changed. Jay-Jay had decided that she no longer needed to be in his life, and all Marinette could think was, “What did I do wrong? How did I drive him away? What did I do wrong?”
Marinette flung herself on the couch and groaned into the cushions as the kwamii came to hover in the air around her. She had left most of the Miraculous in Paris, distributed amongst her allies just in case something went wrong either in Paris or in Gotham. That left Marinette with Kaalki, Tikki, Plagg, and Longg since Kagami was in Japan for a family gathering. The little gods exchanged varying looks before they flew down to comfort their Guardian and friend.
“It’s going to be ok Marinette,” Tikki said, “I’m sure its all going to work out just fine!”
Marinette groaned and turned to look at her oldest ally. “The moment he realized I was Ladybug; he ran from the room as fast as possible.”
“That wasn’t your fault Pigtails,” Plagg said casually, “I think his chaos energy was acting up!” Marinette furrowed her brow and sat up to look at the Kwamii, as he explained, “That brother of yours is practically soaked in chaos energy. It’s practically in his bones. I’m not surprised you didn’t sense it. It’s latent energy, but it was starting to become active when he ran from the room.”
“And you’re only telling me this now?” Marinette groaned.
Plagg shrugged. “You were busy. Besides it’s not the point here. The point is, that your brother is going to love you. Or else I will cataclysm him and the whole city in the process.”
“But Plagg,” Marinette said, “This is your city! You wouldn’t destroy your city, would you?”
“For you,” Plagg said seriously, “I would destroy the world.
“Plagg!” Tikki admonished, but Marinette and Plagg burst into laughter. Marinette had no doubts that the kwamii loved her and would doing anything for her. But when he said things like that, she couldn’t help but laugh for the pure absurdity of it. No one would destroy the world for her. Not even the god of destruction.
“Come now,” Kaalki said primly. “Now we are just talking in circles. Our strategy for reconnecting with your kin is in place. Now all there is to do is wait. Besides you really should be focusing your commission. The Wayne’s are a very important family, and it would pure idiocy to neglect their connections.”
Marinette smiled and stood with a huff. “You’re right,” she said with a smile that was slowly becoming more genuine. “It’s their move, and there’s nothing I can do until they make it. I need a distraction…Tikki how many hours of sunlight are left?”
“Three hours thirty minutes and twenty-eight seconds,” the goddess said with complete accuracy.
Marinette nodded and grabbed her sketchbook. “The Botanical Gardens are across the street; I think that will be the best place to find inspiration. Don’t you?” The kwami buzzed with excitement, as they each shouted their opinions on the matter as Marinette made her way to the door.
----
Roy signed deeply as he listened to Dick freaking out over the phone. “Well that certainly puts things into perspective.”
“Seriously Roy!” Dick cried, “That’s all you have to say! Jason has a sister! She’s Ladybug! She’s here! And it’s all B and I can do just to keep him in the city, not to mention meeting with her!”
Roy rubbed his temple, as Lian ran through the roses. He smiled at her smile, letting her happy noises calm and ground him to what was happening at that moment. “Look, does Jay know you’re telling me?”
Dick was silent for a beat before glumly admitting, “No.”
“Then me offering my two cents is only going to close him off more. What’s B stance on the whole thing?”
“He wants them to meet. At least once. And Alfred’s giving them both the ‘I told you so’ look, so I reckon he’s been advocating for this ever since they found out.”
“Why doesn’t he want to meet her?”
“Something ridiculous about protecting her, or something, I don’t know, just…I’m worried that if he doesn’t act soon then he’ll lose her forever.”
“Well, you’re not wrong,” Roy said. He sighed trying to wrap his own mind around the fact that he had been flirting with Jason’s sister. And he had not killed him immediately. But that was not the issue at hand. Right now, it wasn’t about him and Marinette, it was about Jason and Marinette. Their relationship came first, so he put his own feelings aside and focused on the problem at hand.
Finally, he said, “Right now, we need to convince him that this isn’t going away. Now that you and I know, we’re not just going to sweep it under the rug like B and A. I don’t think that he doesn’t want to meet her. I think he’s scared. And the only way he’s going to get past that is to get him to face this head on. You need to convince him, that the only way to ensure her safety is to meet her and answer her questions. If he really wants to be out of her life, then he needs to give her closure. And use those exact words Dick, he needs to give her closure, so she will stay away.”
“But we don’t want her to stay away!” Dick exclaimed.
“You want Jason at that meeting!” Roy said purposefully, “Then. Do. As. I. Say…Look I got to go. Lian and I are at the Botanical Gardens and they’re about to close so…”
“Yeah, ok Roy,” Dick said with a sigh. “And thanks, I’ll…I’ll do what I can. And I’ll try to get Jason to talk to you, just in case and all that.”
“Thanks Dick,” Roy said, “We’ll talk later…Ok, bye.”
Roy groaned and ran a hand over his face as he tried to comprehend everything that had just happened. He shook himself, and then turned back to the garden shouting, “Lian time to go…Lian?”
Roy quickly scanned the garden. Lian wasn’t there. She had just been there! How could she just vanish! He dashed through the rows of roses shouting her name. She wasn’t there! She had vanished! There wasn’t a sound. Suddenly, Roy understood why B had put trackers in all of his kids, as he dashed through the flowers and hedges shouting in desperation. His eyes began to sting, as his heartbeat became so strong it hurt. He couldn’t find her. He couldn’t find his daughter in the most dangerous city in the world.
Roy froze in a dazed panic surrounded by the hydrangeas. He panted as he stared vacantly at the blue and pink flowers. His brain had stopped functioning, as he just stood and stared in mindless worry. What was he supposed to do? Who was he supposed to call? What did any of this mean? How…
“Un, deux, trois, quatre, cinq! Cinq, quatre, trois, deux, un!” A clear beautiful voice sang through the garden. The simple children’s tune cut through the silence in Roy’s head and drew him towards it. The tune repeated, as the voice continued to count and soon it was joined by a second voice. A child’s voice. A little girl’s voice. Lian’s voice!
Roy almost took the corner too fast, and he turned to find the most miraculous sight he had ever seen. Lian was sitting in the dirt under the hydrangeas, with tears drying on her face, as Marinette Dupain-Cheng knelt on the path singing gently in French. It was such a welcome and sudden relief, that Roy couldn’t stop the loud breath that escaped him.
Both girls turned to look at him, and with in the second, Lian was running to him and jumping into his arms. Roy laughed and cried a little as Lian rambled out how she had run to see the tulips and had gotten lost in the hedges when she had turned around to see that he wasn’t there. Roy lightly admonished her, telling her to never do that again, as he smoothed her hair and whispered reassurances.
The crunch of gravel turned his attention away from Lian and to the other woman. Marinette Dupain-Cheng, designer to the stars, Ladybug, hero of Paris, and Jason’s sister, was standing before him with a gentle smile and joyous eyes.
“Hi,” she said softly. And Roy laughed.
----
“Daddy,” Lian said brightly, “Can I learn French? Can Miss. Mari teach me? Can she stay with us forever?!”
Marinette tried to hide her giggles, as a clearly very happy but very tired Roy tried to placate his daughter as he cleaned the hot chocolate stains from around her mouth. Who knew this was how her day was going to go? She had just been sitting among the hydrangeas sketching the beginnings of a new dress for Clara Nightingale when she had heard a child crying.
Concerned, she had gone in search for the noise, and found this adorable little girl, sitting in the dirt, half hidden by the large leaves and larger flowers as she cried for her father. Marinette stayed out of reach of the little girl, so as not to frighten her, but with gentle words, and quiet reassurances, she had managed to get the child to laugh, and even start singing with her. Next thing she knew the man she had flirted with at the Gala had barreled through the garden, with a desperate and panicked look in his eyes. If Lian had not immediately run to him, Marinette would have attempted to block the girl from view. But as it was, she was genuinely pleased at such a heartwarming sight as a father and daughter reunited.
Now all three of them were enjoying some hot chocolate and coffee at a near by café. “So,” Marinette said, once Lian was distracted by her dad’s phone, “Why Gotham? Why not Star City?”
Roy took a deep breath as he shifted in his seat. “I…couldn’t stay there. Oliver…well we’re not on the best terms. But I can’t just start over! Lian and I…We need to be surrounded by people we trust. People who can keep me accountable. Unfortunately, those people are either in Star City or Gotham and well…”
“You can’t stay in Star City,” Marinette nodded her understanding.
Roy sighed, “It’s not ideal. But it’s what I can afford. And I refuse to accept charity! From Bruce or Oliver. Besides I like being close to my friends. Me and the Wayne’s we’re practically family.”
Marinette furrowed her brow in confusion, “Then what were you doing at the Gala.”
“Doing Jay, a solid. Bruce needed him there for one reason or another. And Oliver was trying to reconnect but…it’s complicated. But someone needed to keep Jason in line. But enough about me, what brings you to Gotham?”
Marinette looked at Roy over her coffee mug. After five years of living under an emotional terrorist, Marinette had become an expert at reading body language. When the slightest spark of anger could get you brain washed, it was important to know when someone was being pushed too far or needed to be deescalated. And for some reason, Roy’s own question had him nervous. It was as if he was looking for something that he was afraid of. Marinette set her cup down and chose her words carefully.
“Business. I finally decided to except a commission from WE. I’ll be designing the family’s Winter Gala attire.”
“Wow!” Roy said clearly impressed, but he did not seem to be actually surprised. “I mean, I kind of already new that since, Tim’s been bouncing off the walls since you accepted, but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s super impressive.”
Marinette smiled at the compliment but had to ask, “If you already knew why I was here, then why did you ask? And why didn’t you say anything before?”
Roy blushed and rubbed the back of his neck. “Well, I was trying to be polite and not be a stalker. Be honest, if I had just come out randomly and said I knew when and why you were coming here, you would have been a little creeped out.”
Marinette smiled and shrugged in response, and Roy took her silent answer as permission to continue. “Besides,” he said a touch more seriously. “I’m a little confused. I mean, you built your brand on anonymity, right? Which meant all of this could have been done online. So why come to the crime capitol of the world three months in advance, just for a family of rich assholes?”
“And here I thought they were your friends,” Marinette teased.
“That’s how I know they’re assholes,” Roy said.
“Assholes!” Lian cheered, and Roy’s face turned as red as his hair as he groaned into his hands.
Marinette laughed and sipped her coffee before answering Roy’s question. “If I’m being honest, I’m also here for personal reasons. I think I was adopted from Gotham, and so I’m trying to learn more about that side of myself.”
Roy nodded, still flustered by his daughter, but clearly still looking for something in Marinette’s words when he said, “Wow, well…Good luck with that, and I mean it! Bio families can get complicated especially in a city like this.”
Marinette laughed without humor, “Yeah, I’ve been hearing that a lot lately. But I’m not afraid of complicated. If my life was a play then the tag line would be, ‘It’s Complicated!’”
Roy chuckled, “Well, then—if you don’t mind me asking, what are you afraid of?”
Marinette paused as she considered Roy and the question. She liked him, and Lian. But she didn’t know if she could trust him. Still, there was an easy genuineness about him that made her smile and relax. He reminded her of Luka and how he always seemed to put her at ease, but he had energy and passion like Adrian. Marinette briefly considered the irony of finding someone who had the best qualities of both of her exes who were currently dating each other.
With all this taken into account, Marinette couldn’t really be surprised when she found herself saying softly, “I’m afraid of rejection. I just…I have this…desire for the truth. And it drives me to some pretty crazy and sometimes embarrassing things! But, I face it. The good the bad, the earth shattering, and heartbreaking, I face all of it. I face the truth. So, when I think about the fact that I have family out there…family I have been kept from for my entire life! I need the truth. But if the truth is that they hate me…that they reject me…I don’t want to face that truth. But I must, because that’s who I am. I find the truth, whatever it is, and make beauty out of it.”
Marinette watched Roy’s expressions throughout her speech. Whatever was going on his head, Marinette couldn’t comprehend it. But she did recognize the three emotions that had been shifting over his face almost the entire time. They were guilt, anger, and appreciation. Marinette was 90% sure that the guilt and anger was not aimed at her, but that didn’t lesson her own anxieties on the matter. And then there was that other part of her brain the one that never stopped working, filing, and cataloguing everything around her. And it whispered a single question, “Does he know?”
Finally, Roy turned to her and said, “Well, anyone crazy enough to abandon you, doesn’t deserve you. But if worse comes to worse…, can I have your number? I think Lian wants you to teacher French, and I’d rather not have you vanish on me again.”
Marinette smiled at his smile and turned to Lian who had jumped at the mention of her name. “What do you say Lian? Would you like me to teach you French?”
“Yes!” Lian exclaimed. “You can be my real-life Knitting Fairy!”
Marinette’s eyes bulged at that comment, and she did her best to play it off. A new thought reeled in her mind, in that distant part of her brain. “Lian knows Jay-Jay. Roy knows Jay-Jay! He called his friend Jay! Jay, Jay-Jay, Jason! Jason Todd is my brother! Jason Todd is Red Hood! Wait…does that mean…”
Marinette met Roy’s eyes and an understanding passed between them. They knew. They both knew. How was this possible? How had this happened? Her mission to connect with her brother, was going far to easily. The coincidences, and random encounters, and verbal slips were just too many! Something was happening. She put the puzzle to the back of her mind as she gave Roy her number and attempted to leave as gracefully as she could. But before she did, Roy reached out and gently took her hand saying, “You should know, that whatever happens while you’re in Gotham, you have people here who are on your side. And if your family is too pigheaded to give you the love, respect, and acceptance you deserve, then I will personally kick their asses three times over.”
“Thank you, Roy,” Marinette said with a smile. “That means a lot.” Still, she didn’t look back as she returned to her borrowed apartment. Her brain was too full of swirling thoughts and spiraling contradictions. But before she could steep in her anxiety, she collapsed onto the floor and began to meditate.
Suddenly she could feel it. The darkness of Gotham, the pure chaos and misfortune that spilled out of the ley lines and attempted to infect every crevice of the city. A bright and pure bubble of creation protected her from it, but it didn’t stop her from feeling it, and understanding it. But Marinette ignored the ley lines for now and focused on what was beyond them…the forces of Balance. The strings of fate and the winds of destiny mixed with the energy of Gotham and dispersed out into the world purposefully and intentionally.
And those same strings of fate were guiding her. They had always been. The moment she had begun to learn to differentiate between the energies of the world, she could sense fate swirling around her like a whirlpool, dragging her to whatever came next. Sometimes she thanked them. Sometimes she hated them. But now she could feel the energies pulling and pushing her in one direction, towards her brother.
Marinette opened her eyes and addressed the confused kwamii before her. “It appears that our mission isn’t just personal.”
“What do you mean?” Longg asked quietly.
“I mean,” Marinette said in exhaustion. “That our relationship is important, not just to me, but to fate itself.” She sighed and rubbed her temple, “If I were to guess, then I’d say that there is something, Jay-Jay and I need to do together. Something important, so fate is making sure that we are reunited.”
“But that’s a good thing, right?” Plagg exclaimed, “I mean if fate is on your side, then I’m sure you will get what you want. Right! Right?”
Marinette shook her head. “I don’t know Plagg. I just don’t know.”
They sat in silence for ten whole minutes, contemplating why fate, destiny, or providence had decided that Marinette was their go-to girl for being anything from a leader to a punching bag. But in the end, it didn’t matter. For not even a god could defeat time and fate together. And once the ten minutes were up, Marinette’s phone rang. Marinette opened it and read the text, with growing apprehension.
Meeting scheduled for 11 pm, on top of WE building. -Batman.

Hanging by a thread, I am
Tim & Dick, Tim & Jason, Angst, Arguing, Canon Divergence, Upset!Tim, Big Brother Jason.
Summary: Upset and angry, Tim doesn't react well when Dick asks him to give up the Robin mantle. After arguing with Dick, Tim storms away and bumps into an unlikely person who surprisingly supports him in the way Dick doesn’t.
A/N: This idea came about when I thought ‘what if Dick asked Tim to give Damian robin’ and this is the result. It’s canon divergence and while Jason doesn’t necessarily get along with the bats he’s not completely separated from them. Title is from ‘Saviour’ by Onerepublic.
Enjoy! :D
For a moment Tim wonders if he had heard things right. There’s no way his brother is suggesting what Tim thinks he’s suggesting. Like hell was he giving that demon child the Robin mantle!
Tim blinks at Dick, utter disbelief written across his expression. “You’re joking right? This is just – wait, no. There’s no way you just asked me to give Damian Robin.”
Opposite him, where Dick is stood by the bat computer wearing the Batman suit with the cowl down, Dick lets out a heavy sigh and sends Tim a pleading look. “Look Tim, please listen to what I’m saying-”
Tim cuts Dick off before he could finish that sentence. “I don’t need to listen to what you have to say Dick! I won’t listen to you while you try to justify why you want me to give up Robin, I have put my heart and soul into this and now you’re asking me to give it up, to throw away everything I have worked for. It’s not happening!”
“Tim.” Dick’s voice now has a hard edge to it, his brother coming close to losing that infamous patience of his. “I understand why you’re upset about this but think about it rationally. We all have to move on. You are no longer a little boy who needs guidance or a mentor, you have the skill and experience to be more than a sidekick.”
“This has nothing to do with that.”
Dick, however, continues speaking like Tim never said anything. “I can’t look at you and see you as my protégé, I want you by my side as my equal. Damian, on the other hand, he’s going to-”
“It’s always about fucking Damian.” Tim shouts at him, throwing his hands up in disbelief. He starts pacing, his hands and arms moving erratically with each step. “It’s always about that snot-nosed brat. Ever since he's come into our lives it’s always about him. Are you forgetting when he almost killed me? Damian would never, never, understand the meaning of Robin, not in the way we do.
“I had to work my ass off to be accepted as Robin, I had to earn the right, Bruce was adamant about me not taking it on but I proved my worth. Now you want me to pass it over with a bow on top to someone who will abuse it.”
“Well Bruce isn’t here!”
Dick’s shout freezes Tim on the spot. The words washing over him like ice water chilling him to the bone. Opposite him Dick’s face is flushed and his hands are clenched at his sides, he’s looking at Tim with an expression he couldn’t read but Tim could hear the pain and defeat in his voice.
“Bruce isn’t here,” Dick repeats quietly, “not anymore. We all have to move on and this is the way to do it. I become Batman with Damian as my Robin. And you Tim, you on my other side as my Nightwing.”
The silence that settles around them is thick and suffocating. Tim could hear the way his heart is pounding inside his chest and he could hear every breath he takes. His hands are shaking and there’s sweat building up across his forehead. Inside himself Tim could still feel the rage stirring, despite Dick’s words and the meanings behind them Tim cannot accept them.
Deep down he knows this is wrong. Dick is wrong.
Tim shakes his head. “No,” he declares firmly, “you’re wrong. Bruce isn’t gone. How can you accept that? He isn’t gone.”
“Tim, please, we’ve been over this,” Dick sighs, running a hand down his face. “He’s gone, we’ve seen the footage. You’re in denial, a lot has happened over the last few months and I get why you are but see the facts.”
Gritting his teeth he sends Dick a dark look. A lot has happened, Dick isn’t wrong about that. Tim’s lost two of best friends, his girlfriend, his biological father and now, supposedly, his adoptive father.
“We can get you help Tim,” Dick says carefully, his tone purposefully soft and gentle as if talking to a frightened animal. “We can get through this.”
“Help?” Tim scoffs at the notion. “I don’t need help, what I need is to prove to you is that Bruce is alive. Damian isn’t getting shit from me. No matter how much, or how sweetly, you ask me to hand the mantle over.”
“You need to accept Bruce is gone!” Dick cries at him. “I don’t like it any more than you do but we can’t sit here doing nothing. He’s dead! He ain’t coming back!”
Tim scoffs again and decides he’s had enough of this conversation. They’re going around in circles simply riling each other up. Neither of them are going to achieve anything at this point. Dismissing Dick’s presence Tim turns and stalks away, he needs to go before anything else happens.
“All I’m asking you is to think about it Tim. Give Damian Robin and you can forge your own hero.”
Stopping in his tracks Tim turns back around and glares at the man. “I don’t need to think about it. The answer is no. I’m Robin and it’s going to stay that way. I can’t believe you’re asking me to give up something I have worked so hard for and something I have shaped to be my own.”
“Stop being so selfish!”
For a third time that evening Dick’s words make Tim freeze. First the question. Secondly how Dick truly seems to believe Bruce is dead. Now this.
“Selfish? How am I being selfish? I own Robin, I am Robin, I don’t have to do shit. And least of all I don’t have to give that demon child anything. He doesn’t even know Bruce, what right does he have to suddenly become an integral part of the family?”
Dick huffs out a sardonic laugh with a shake of his head. “I can’t believe you just said that. I’m not even going to answer that. I ask you to do one simple thing Tim. You’re blowing this completely out of proportion.”
“Simple? I’m blowing this out of proportion?” Tim repeats. “You’re the one insisting Bruce is dead.”
“Because he is!” Dick explodes again. “You’re being delusional Tim! Listen to what you are saying, look at the evidence we have. Why are you insisting otherwise, you’re causing us more pain than what we already have.”
“You know what Dick,” Tim says, having had enough. It’s more than clear he’s alone in his corner, his brother choosing a psychotic ten year old over him. “Go fuck yourself.”
With that Tim turns and leaves. He ignores the calls Dick makes behind him and heads for the vehicle bay. He needs to get out of the cave as soon as possible or risk another argument with Dick. Not wasting a second he grabs his helmet, straddles his bike, turning it on he reeves the engine before zooming out of the cave. He has no destination in mind other than the further away the better.
Sometime later he’s speeding through the streets of Gotham, his mind completely occupied on what occurred in the cave earlier. He repeats their spoken words and instead of seeing the argument logically, it only riles Tim up more and his anger at the situation increases.
A piercing scream cuts through his thoughts and Tim jolts, with a wrench of the handlebars he swerves his bike to the side and narrowly avoids hitting a group of girls standing on the sidewalk. Once he's stable and back on the road Tim takes a deep breath and steadies himself. After almost causing an accident he knows he’s in no state to drive. Working out where he is in the city he comes up with a good hiding spot nearby in the back alleys between buildings, navigating himself there Tim turns off the engine and takes a moment to breathe in attempts to calm himself down.
He shouldn’t have been driving angry. It’s reckless and dangerous. He almost caused an accident because he isn’t in the right head space to be able to fully concentrate on what he’s doing and on his surroundings. Yanking off his helmet Tim climbs off the bike and begins to pace, unable to stay still any longer.
Dick’s words repeat themselves in his mind and they make it difficult to focus on anything else. Tim can’t believe Dick wants him to give up the Robin mantle. After everything he’s been through, Dick wants him to give up the one thing that’s keeping him sane. Tim's lost his father, Kon, Bart, Steph, and Bruce (no, he hasn’t, he’ll find him) and now Dick wants Tim to lose Robin too.
Dick’s told him he can come up with a new persona but he doesn’t want to, a new one wouldn’t be the same. He’s not ready for that.
He's not giving up Robin.
Tim feels the need to hit something as another wave of anger flows through him. With his fists clenched impossibly tight by his sides Tim ends up taking his anger out on his bike, the force of the kick he strikes the vehicle with causes it to fall over with a loud clatter. In the moment the damage done was the last thing on Tim's mind. As he steps back from the bike his eyes get drawn to an old metal pipe propped up against the wall, stalking over to it he grabs the pipe and weighs it in his hands, figuring it'll do he walks back to his bike and takes a swing at it. As the pipe collides with the rear breaks a loud clang could be heard. Tim swings again before moving to the front of the bike.
He loses track of how long he spends whacking his bike with the pipe. With every swing he lets out a swear followed by a curse against Dick. All of his anger and emotions bleed out in an unforgivable manner, all of the tension he’s been holding for months finally spilling out of him like water bursting through a broken dam.
By the time Tim is done he’s feeling exhausted. His arms and shoulders ache, his fingers are cramping from where he’s held onto the bar too tightly and for too long, his head is pounding and he’s breathing heavily.
Tim slumps down onto the ground and ducks his head to his chest as he tries to get his breathing under control. He doesn’t feel any better, his temper tantrum hasn’t solved anything because all the same problems will still be there when he goes back to the cave. All he’s achieved is damaging his bike which will likely take weeks to repair.
A loud thump coming from his right gets his attention. Despite feeling exhausted his body is still working through the adrenaline, instinctively Tim is back up onto his feet before he even thinks about it, his staff in his hands and he’s automatically in a defensive position facing an opponent.
It takes him a moment to realise who it is opposite him. Standing casually like Tim is no threat at all is the Red Hood. The man is stood in the middle of the alleyway with his hands in the pockets of his leather jacket and his red helmet in place, Tim could see guns and weapons stashed across his body but what Tim couldn’t work out is why he’s here.
Red Hood steps closer to him and Tim doesn’t soften his stance. “When one of my snitches told me there’s a disturbance in the area, I certainly didn’t expect it to be you, replacement. Done with your temper tantrum?”
Tim grits his teeth and stays quiet. He’s not in a good mood and seeing Jason Todd, another supposed family member whose tried to kill him, that day is souring his mood even more than before. He’s not falling into Hood’s baiting games.
“What no snarky comeback?” Hood taunts. The man comes even closer and peers down at his bike, taking in the damage Tim has done to it. “Isn’t that what Robin’s all about, witty comebacks and the sense of humour?”
At the mention of Robin Tim snaps. “Shut up and fuck off.” Tim knows he fell into the trap, it didn’t take much, but he couldn’t help it, it was the mention of the exact thing that’s caused his bad mood.
Hood whistles. “Oh, the little birdie has a bite after all.” He stops walking, choosing to stand opposite Tim with the bike between them. “Oh relax replacement, I ain’t going to do anything. You can put that stick of yours down.”
Tim narrows his eyes at the man and doesn’t move.
“Alright, whatever,” he hears Hood sigh with a shake of his head. The man then crosses his arms, “so what’s got you in the middle of the city throwing it down with your bike? Not like you to lose your temper easily.”
“It’s none of your business.” Tim says, his voice hard and cold. “There’s nothing to see here so you can bugger off back to where you came from.”
There's a pause and Tim could count every second that passes in silence by his rapid heartbeat. The man stays quiet as he crouches down to the vehicle and examines it more closely, fiddling with bits to see how bad the damage is. Tim allows him to do what he wants and he even drops the defensive stance and puts away his staff.
“Let me guess,” Hood drawls out while looking at the breaks, “you got into an argument with goldie? Or perhaps it was the new kid, Bruce’s biological one, that’s caused you to lose your shit? Maybe it was both!”
Tim has no idea how the hell Hood’s been able to hit the nail right on the head but Tim doesn't confirm or deny anything, he stays quiet and keeps an eagle eye on the man’s movements.
“Not going to answer that?” Hood enquiries, the man looks up and even though he’s wearing the stupid helmet, Tim could tell he’s looking straight at him. After a moment Hood snorts and shakes his head yet again. “Both it is then.”
“It’s none of your business.” Tim repeats his earlier words in the same cold tone, but there’s an underlying shakiness to it. It’s nerved him on how right Jason’s been able to guess the reason behind his mental breakdown.
“If you’re wondering how I guessed well most of it was a lucky guess. However the fact your half dressed also gave it away. You’re lucky no one else has come to check out what the noise was all about.”
Tim blinks before frowning. He looks down at himself and noticed for the first time the attire he’s adventured out in. He's still got his armoured pants and boots on, his utility belt is wrapped around his waist however he’s only wearing a thin cotton jumper he had put on once he got out of his Robin tunic. A surge of panic hits Tim and he reaches up to his face, the panic intensifies when he doesn’t feel anything but skin there. His eyes widen and he feels sick. He’s been out here in his robin gear openly showing his face. Anyone could work out his identity! He’s fucked up big time.
“Jesus christ, relax, replacement,” Hood’s robotic voice cuts through his thoughts. “I’ve already disabled any cameras nearby and have wiped out any footage of the last hour since you’ve been here. Whatever happened really fucked you up huh? Reckless driving. Vandalizing your own vehicle. Swearing as bad as a sailor. Almost blowing the whole family’s secret.”
“Yes, thank you!” Tim cuts in, feeling both embarrassed and annoyed at Hood’s response to list off everything he’s done wrong in the last hour. “How would you like it if I listed everything you’ve done wrong Hood? Have you got time, because we’ll be here all day.”
Jason’s own response was to snort in amusement. Obviously he’s not as bothered by it as Tim is. Huffing Tim walks to where his helmet lies on the floor, picking it up he dusts off the dirt and puts it on, at least no one will be able to see his face with this on.
“What do you want Hood? I’m evidently having a shitty day and you’re not improving it.” Tim says with a sigh, he’s tired and done with everything, all the fight having now left him. “If you have nothing to do and you’re only here to annoy me, can I ask you to do it on another day. I don’t have the energy.”
Now standing up right Hood stares at him and Tim stares back. When the man doesn't relent Tim looks away first, he changes his attention to his poor bike and starts to feel the regret of his childish actions.
To his surprise though Hood bends down and picks the bike up, using the handlebar to keep it balanced and steady. Miraculously it’s somehow standing, perhaps Tim hadn’t too much damage to it after all. Wordlessly the man starts guiding the bike down the alleyway leaving Tim blinking in confusion behind him.
“Uh Hood? What you doing?”
“Well you can’t get anywhere with the damage done to this. We’ll go to my garage and fix her up. Then you can go off and do whatever it is you need to do.”
Tim doesn't know what part of that to try and comprehend first.
“Why do you want to help me? Not long back you were trying to kill me.”
Hood shrugs. “Well today I fancy being a good Samaritan, sue me. Well, you could try but you can’t sue a dead man,” the man then pauses, “or can you?”
Tim is the most confused he’s been all night. “What? I don’t know. That’s not an answer.”
The other man doesn’t offer anything up so Tim quickly darts forward to catch up to him as Jason leads them through the narrow alleyways. The other part of what he said also sits in Tim’s mind, it’s like Jason already knows that Tim is planning on doing something about proving how Bruce isn’t dead. Like he knows Tim may go off to prove his point. Tim decides to not think about how well the man seems to read him despite them hardly ever interacting unless Jason’s actively trying to kill him.
The two of them remain silent the entire way to Jason’s garage. Tim should be weary of him and the situation but after the day he’s had he couldn’t quite bring himself to care, if Jason wants to try and kill him then he could go ahead, it’ll just be icing on the cake at this point. Hell Damian will end up having the Robin mantle if Jason kills him, then Dick will also get his wish. Two for one. Lucky them….
“Whatever it is, it’ll pass,” Hood mutters to him, it’s said so quietly Tim almost misses it, “I don’t know the situation or what’s happened between you and Dick but things have a way to sort themselves out.”
Tim doesn't offer a response to his words although Jason didn’t seem to be after one. The two of them eventually make their way to Jason’s garage and they instantly set up the bike onto the racks. Together they start making a log of what needs to be replaced and what can be fixed. It should scare Tim how well they work together when they’re not engaged in a fight but it doesn’t. In a weird way it feels right, of course he doesn’t comment on the situation, instead he silently accepts the helping hand Jason is offering.
No one needs to know how later that night, when Tim falls asleep on the old recliner Jason has in his garage, how Jason covers Tim with his jacket and leaves him to sleep while he works on the bike. The two of them in a comfortable silence like they’ve never experienced before.
Jason may or may not be starting to develop protective feelings for the kid who looks like he’s wearing the world on his shoulders. Learning to get past his previous feelings Jason figures that if the Bats are going to treat Tim like shit then he’ll will do his best to make sure the kid remembers that he isn’t alone.

While he does take the food, he also then gives his siblings proper replacements (if they aren’t full) because he can’t see them go hungry the way he did in crime alley. He knows they’re all rich, he knows they all have access to almost anything in the world they want to eat, but old habits die hard when you grow up hungry and he just can’t let his siblings go hungry. He knows what that’s like. They don’t deserve to know. He makes sure they’re fed.
Jason is the kind of brother that would take any food the others don’t want and eat it.
Dick doesn’t want his second milkshake he ordered because he’s got a small appetite? Jason will take it, it’s a milkshake and he’s got a sweet tooth.
Tim doesn’t want the half a chili bowl he got but can’t eat because of the spice? Jason will eat it, he’s totally a guy who loves spicy food.
Steph doesn’t want her peanut butter and jelly because she starts to get a rash from the peanuts? Jason will eat it while he drives to get her some lotion.
Damian doesn’t want the chicken soup he was served by accident and he most definitely did not order? Jason will take it, he knows good soup when he sees it and won’t let it go to waste.
Duke doesn’t want the lobster he got because he doesn’t know how to eat fancy food ‘properly’? Jason will take it, he doesn’t care about being proper. It’s a dead crustacean what’s it gonna do.
Jason is a cool big bro (or little bro for Dick) that isn’t picky with his food and will gladly take your leftovers or unwanted meals.

I need in my life Tim Drake who does rely on adults but really only one and Bruce is jealous as fuck about it.
"Tim where's your spleen, why haven't you told anyone about this"
"I told Dick what you talking about"
"Tim you played baseball in outerspace why didn't you call for backup?"
"I called Dick"
Why didn't you tell us you were bisexual"
"Dick's known for years? Wym?"
You see my vision Bruce, Alfred, Jack Drake I need these adults pushing for Tim to talk to them or ask for help and this boy to just constantly be like Dick knows, I called Dick, why would I call you.
Dick's sitting pretty knowing everything not surprised by a single fact because if it's the stupidest thing or the most important guess what Tim called him.
The man knows and sees all because Tim heard once that you tell a trusted adult important stuff and well Tim has only ever trusted one.

Batfam AU
Damian was captured by some villain, and Dick just saved him.
Nightwing: Why didn't you send a distress signal? You could have gotten hurt. What if I didn't get here in time?
Robin: tt, stop your incessant nagging, Grayson. I can handle myself. Besides, I did send out a distress signal.
Nightwing: Really, cause I didn't get it, and neither did B.
Robin, realizing something: Ah, I believe I may have alerted someone else of my capture then...
Nightwing: who-
He's cut off as a red figure barrels through the window, shattering it.
Red Hood, guns cocked as he looks around the room: Who the fuck do I need to kill?
Robin, deadpan: Impeccable timing as always, Akhi.

When Jason Todd woke up that morning to check his texts. He wasn’t expecting this.
When Danny sent that rant text to what he thought was Tuckers number (his old phone got smashed in a recent ghost fight, Sam gave him a new one she wasn’t using, and Tucker was out of town for a while so he couldn’t help Danny transfer his data yet) he wasn’t expecting a rather cyptic response
“Wrong number kid. But just for my own curiosity and concern, who is and where can I find this Fruitloop? I just wanna have a chat with him.”

Mary Todd pt 18
The Last Chapter
ao3 Beginning Previous
Marinette did not regret moving up her trip to Themyscira. She and everyone around her agreed that she needed to complete her training with Hippolyta as soon as possible. Still there was one thing she did regret.
“You’ll come back soon, right?” Lian said as she tried to squeeze all of the air out of her.
“Of course,” Marinette said, “I think I’ll be coming back to Gotham many, many more times. And I’ll always make time to see you.”
Lian nodded and released her as she went to stand by Artemis. Marinette then turned to Jason and sighed. “I feel like we just found each other.”
Jason shrugged a sad, but proud smile never giving way, not even as he pulled her into another bone crushing hug. “And we’ll find each other again. As many times as it takes. Now, go and show those Amazons what we Todd’s are made of!”
Marinette laughed, whipping away her stay tears as they separated. “Never change Jay-Jay,” she said. “And don’t forget, my parents want you in Paris in no less than one week’s time.”
“Got it!” Jason laughed. As the took one more moment to just look at each other.
“I’ll miss you,” she finally said.
“Miss you too Pixie,” he said, and he kissed her forehead before stepping back.
Marinette looked around the Cave at everyone assembled. Her family had practically doubled in the short time sense she had left Paris, and she couldn’t be happier. They had each said their good byes, and she had thanked them each in turn. But there was still one person left. Finally, her eyes landed on Roy, who was watching her with such love and adoration, Marinette barely knew what to do with it.
She opened her mouth trying to find the right words, but in the end, she didn’t know what to say. Fortunately, he did as he stepped forward, taking her head in his hands and kissing long and deep. Marinette melted into it, smiling in spite of herself as everything else vanished around them.
“Get a room,” someone shouted.
“Lian don’t look,” some else called.
Someone pretended to gag in the corner of the cave, but Marinette didn’t hear any of them. All of her senses were focused on this moment, with this man who needed her. Who loved her. Who was letting her go, but still chose to hold her. Roy ended the kiss but still kept her close as he whispered, “I’ll see you when you get back.”
“Promise?” Marinette said still smiling.
“All we need is right now,” he said. “That’s enough.”
“Time to go,” Wonder Woman declared, as Donna and Cassie put the last of her bags onto the jet.
Marinette separated herself from Roy, and yet despite the fact that she was saying good bye she couldn’t stop smiling. Yes, she was leaving, but she had a mission. She had two homes. And she was loved. And there was an amazing man waiting for her when she got back. What more could she want or ask for. She was moving forward with her life, and for the first time in a long time, her path was clear.
So as she waved good bye, she smiled and called, “See you soon!”

Occasionally I picture Nightwing calling Red Hood "little wing" in front of others and people looking between this huge, 6'0 feet tall man with growing white hair, and then Nightwing, a shorter man who has flawless skin, probably around his 20's, and a fit but not too buff build and they just- don't know what's happening. Is it some kind of inside joke they aren't aware of? Why is Nightwing acting as if he's years older than Red-fucking jacked-Hood?
Nightwing: Little wing, you actually were decent in that fight! I'm impressed.
Hero, who was helping during this fight as well, listening in to the conversation: little...?
Red Hood: Wow, feeling very appreciated right now. Got any other backhanded compliments in there?
Hero: Wait, excuse me-
Nightwing: As a matter of fact-
Red Hood: Nope! I'm outta here. Screw you!
Nightwing: You know you love me!
Red Hood: In your dreams, dickhead!
Nightwing: Hey! We don't use that-
Red Hood: Not listening!
Nightwing: Jeez, kids these days...
Red Hood: I'm an adult and fuck you too!
Nightwing: What? Thought you weren't-
Red Hood: See you never, I'm out.
Hero: ...
Hero: what the actual fuck?

I feel that Bruce is more immediately concerned that a pair of children have been forced to face against a villain and lost all their backup and mentor, and hes somehow hasn't heard of it all.
Jason:
Alfred:
Jason:
Alfred: No.
Jason: But Alfie!
Alfred: No, Master Jason. You can't just go out and adopt a sad teenager.
Jason, clutching Marinette: But why not? How is this any different than what Bruce does?
Marrinette, muffled: I'm not sad, I'm stressed and overworked and haven't had a full night's sleep in ages.
Tim: Sounds like she's practically already one of us.
Bruce: She might have parents, Jason.
Jason: As if that has stopped you before!
Marinette, still muffled: Yep, I actually have parents.
Dick: She's pretty adorable.
Jason: Right?!
Afred: Master Richard, please!
Cass: *koala hugs Marinette from the other side and gives Bruce a long stare*
Damian, spoiling some of the kwamis: I have decided that she shall join the family.
Jason: See? Even the brat claimed her as family and he barely wanted Dick!
Marinette, sandwiched between Jason and Cass and trying to speak louder: Actually I'm only here because I really think we might need help against our Parisian villain.
Bruce: You're fighting a villain? I assume you're a sidekick? Who's your mentor?
Alfred, dangerously low: Master Bruce.
Marinette: Not a sidekick. Since our Mentor lost his memories and our temporary heroes got exposed it's just my partner and I.
Bruce:
Alfred:
Bruce: So-
Alfred: OH FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE!

Day by Day - Chapter 21
Chapter warnings: Description of kidnapping and references to beatings; a character throwing up.
Chapter preview:
The next morning Jason greets them with breakfast with a side of a suspicious look. As Tim and Kon take a seat at the table Tim glares back daring Jason to make the retort he wants to. After glaring for several seconds Jason smirks at him before putting his hands up in surrender, the action makes Tim want to establish how nothing scandalous actually happened, however he doesn’t because it’s easier to let Jason think whatever he wants to than know what really did happen last night.
Kon’s wearing the same clothes as the previous day and Tim checks if he wants to go home to grab fresh stuff but Kon denies the offer and simply asks if he could use their bathroom. Once ready the two of them head to school together with Jason reminding Tim he’ll be picking him up that day and offers Kon an open invitation to come back if he wishes to.
The walk to school is silent. Tim attempts to break it but any effort at conversation is futile as Kon only replies with one word answers or a sound. Tim leaves him be after that, at least until they get a block away from their destination.
