Fun Carmy
Fun Carmy is relaxed Carmy, the other one is Logan, his social alter ego.
I was wondering if Carmy ever had a day of fun in whole life because IMO he has always been that anxious lil kid around others, that we saw in Fishes (02X06), I’m sure. He’s better at the tĂȘte-Ă -tĂȘte like the one he briefly had with Michelle that evening
Tumblr media
OR as part of small close-knit groups, like that scene in the kitchen (Ceres 01x06).
Tumblr media
These assumptions, I think, are also completely backed up by his S1 -Emmy Winning- monologue (Braciole 01x08).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And what I ended up realizing is that FUN CARMEN is not the one we might think we haven’t really seen yet, and that fun for him does NOT look like it may look for us or for a more extrovert type of person.
I happen to be listening to Nina as I type this, and she once said:
Tumblr media
I think that quote fits Carmy and his "sense of fun" perfectly.
Fun Carmy is relaxed Carmy, and at peace Carmy.
This is fun Carmy
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fun for Carmy doesn't look like this
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fun Carmy is relaxed Carmy
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Logan is not "fun", he is actually a source of anxiety for Carmy, and that's why he can't keep him "on" for long. He wasn't lying when he said he wasn't remotely OK at the party (Pop 02x05) because at that point he hadn't turned Logan on yet.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Logan is "The other one", the one most people would label as "fun", because it better fits the social CONSTRUCT of what fun looks like, but Logan Fernello Berzatto is actually his functional alter-ego.
His functional or social alter - ego explained from a behaviorist perspective
We all have functional alter egos, this is related to the PERSONAL constructs concept developed by Psychologist George Kelly. These are formed at a fairly early age, even well within our 20s we are still forming our personalities and constructs or ideas of how the world works and what everything means, and thus how we should interact with and/or react to this world we live in, in other words, how to adapt or not to our environment. Then comes our career that can prolong this formative period even more, for instance, celebs of any age are required to have an alter ego for those occasions on which they have to "turn it on" for the camera or the stage → "the stage persona" that is NEVER the same person as the real one behind the wheel of the "functional alter-ego" and this persona has been formed based on their ideal of what has worked best for them in the past, what their PR team or Managers require of them to get them jobs, etc. They may come across as genuine and relatable but celebs are usually always "on" when we see them even off camera, so they are not, not completely. We all have the "office construct", the "school construct", the "mom chat group construct", etc. That is actually a sign of being well-adjusted to fit in society, and that is why we do not act the exact same way in all those different situations even though we are the same person, because we are not the same "persona" and that's OK. It's not a sign of phoniness, or lack of honesty, although it can definitely turn into that and become dysfunctional when there's an underlying mental health disorder, although it doesn't always turn out like that, thank dog!
In Carmy's case in particular, he can handle Logan and turn him on / off at will, which means he's in that aspect still well-adjusted despite his multiple mental health conditions, probably because none of them is a personality disorder, so it's safe to assume that he somewhat knows what's he's doing, he's choosing it to a certain extent and it's not 100% unconscious, only partially.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
His lines are becoming blurry because he let Syd in, whether he admits it or not. And deep down, he knows this but he's not fully willing to go there (yet). That's what S4 is for.
This aligns with the rest of his behavior I already went over in previous posts:
Fun Carmy is the one that California, Copenhagen, and Chicago post-Sydney Adamu brought out in him. He's what most people, not me, would call relaxed, chilled, etc.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Relaxed Carmy, at peace Carmy, coloring Carmy, talking about food and cracking lil jokes under a table Carmy, is FUN CARMY.
We know him already. We've seen him. He just turns him off when he's The Bear or Logan.

Obscure Media: Encore VFX Article
Brought to us courtesy of @widowswinter, who's been working hard to dredge up these gems from the past.
We've all seen this cover by now, but in case you didn't know, Encore was an Australian film trade magazine. It switched to an online format and then seems to have ceased publication around 2013. Some of their articles can be found at https://mumbrella.com.au/, but none going back to 2006. Widowswinter accessed this article via the National Library of Australia, which houses physical copies of the magazine and will make copies/scans of some of their collection.

ENCORE I 22 I V24 ISSUE 2, FEBRUARY, 2006
Digital effects were integral to writer/director Gregory Read's Like Minds, the UK/Australian psychological thriller starring Toni Collette, Richard Roxburgh, Eddie Redmayne and Tom Sturridge.
With production split evenly between Australia and England, where the story is set, the dual role of the DFX was to heighten the in camera drama, and to solve problems created by on-set limitations and impracticalities. This was especially true for the film's opening train sequence during which schoolboys hang outside the door of a train travelling at 80 km/h, playing 'chicken' with the rapidly advancing stanchions (posts that support the overhead electric wires).
"Even if we could shoot the whole scene on a live train travelling at speed, getting the angles in and out of the train with the presence of real stanchions isn't realistic, not to mention the danger of attempting such a live sequence," said Read, who consulted with DOP Nigel Bluck and VFX supervisor Dave Morley, of Sydney-based VFX house Fuel International, to determine the best way to shoot this scene. "The upshot was to have two shoots; the first being the boys on a live train minus stanchions, travelling at its top speed of 20km/h. We used a wind cannon and lighting rig to emulate speed. The boys were cabled into the train, which gave them the opportunity to hang out, feel the 'rush' and give me the performance I wanted . The rest of the scene was shot in a shed with two very big guys rocking the train."
Like Minds features Collette in the role of a forensic psychologist appointed by police to determine whether there's enough evidence to lay murder charges against 17-year old Alex (Redmayne), accused in the shotgun death of his schoolmate Nigel (Sturridge).
The train scenes were initially earmarked to be shot in Adelaide but the unavailability of a suitable 1970s-style electric train meant the production shifted to a train museum located in Cessnock, NSW. Fresh stumbling blocks at the new location included a train carriage without a front engine and the absence of on location electricity; factors which necessitated the deployment of a bright yellow ex-BHP locomotive to propel the 'electric' carriage backwards and forwards at a maximum travelling speed of just 20km/h.
Fuel's task included the creation of the CG stanchions, which Read wanted to "crash into frame very close to the carriage then vanish into shadow".
"The shot required the stanchion to race towards the boys, barely missing one of them. However, when the stanchion was put in it just didn't look right so David [Morley] gradually scaled up the stanchion to 300 percent as it raced towards us so that it worked, visually and dynamically. As an added effect, when this stanchion slams past it actually hits the camera on which David introduced shudder."
Morley's team rigged up a series of par cans (stage lights) attached to a programmable lighting desk that enabled them to set the speed of lights turning on and off in series to simulate the feel of the stanchions travelling past the carriage at the desired speed of 80 km/h.
"Each of the CG stanchions has its own light pointing down towards the train and we used the par cans to give us the motion of the light travelling past," Morley said. "We built CG stanchions to match the style of what they have over in England, and from reference gathered off the web and footage Greg shot in England, then tracked them in and composited them all together."
When working on shots looking down the length of the train, the ground plane was sped up 400 percent. This was done to disguise the fact that the train was actually only travelling at 20 km/h.
"That would get put back in and then we'd have the CG stanchions over the top of that," said Morley. 'There was normally only one extra carriage behind the one that we were working on, so we ended up having to extend extra carriages as well. Because we only had one train rigged with the lights we ended up shifting the camera up one carriage length then duplicating this carriage for the two missing carriages."
The variance in visible rainfall during the Cessnock shoot presented another problem to be solved.
"We'd set up to get the master shot, which was a very large crane shot moving down onto the railway tracks from about 30 feet up," Read explained. "In this environment we had two large rain towers with rotating heads which produced heavy rainfall, however when we swung  around to shoot reverse shots there was very little backlight and the rainfall was barely visible. We knew we didn't have time to move lights - let alone the travelling train in the background where the lights would need to stand. It was a matter of placing CG rain into the background of those shots so they matched the master."
Like Minds is set in the middle of the English winter. Obviously, Cessnock's 45-degree temperatures created obstacles. Among the challenges were short night shoot hours, actors having to wear heavy fur-lined clothing and the need to frame out all 'summer' foliage - especially gum trees.
In addition, while the English shoot took place in wintertime, Read was keen to include a shot of the school location in summertime. Fuel was called upon to make shots filmed in winter appear as though it was summer. This was done with sky replacements, adding leaves to trees and replacing snow with grass. Among these was an interior shot of the exterior through a window.
Fuel worked on 89 shots in total including the opening title sequence, which sees a camera move along a darkened surface before rising to show raindrops falling on this surface, which is revealed to be a train track.
"Suddenly a train rushes over the track and we cut out to a wide shot and there's the boy hanging out of the train," said Read. "I thought we could use a motion control rig and then put in the CG later but then practicality and cost came into it and I faced with the reality that this shot was too much of an indulgence; we didn't have the budget and so I turned to David and said 'Help! This is the shot I want to do'.
Armed with Read's storyboards and a second unit, Morley directed the title sequence himself, opting to use a live train to give it authenticity.
"We had to carefully choreograph the timing of both the camera tracking back and the train barrelling down the track straight for us with quite a few dry runs separately with both train and crew until we were confident we had the positions the camera needed to be in relation to the train," explained Morley.  "We still had several safety people standing by to quickly rip crew out of the way of the impending train if they had not reached the agreed ‘point of no return'  position. In the end we got exactly what we wanted."
Once the shot had been captured, Fuel scanned the image at 4K, smoothed the camera move and retimed the sequence. In addition to the titles CG sparks were added to the undercarriage as the train passed by.

hey this is a little random BUT i have heard good reviews of dr steven merten at pure aesthetics in sydney!! My husbands psychologist went there, has had lots of good reviews from bigger folks. He doesnt take bmi into account and also is specifically good at sculpting larger chests so you don't end up with dog ears and needing revisions. best of luck though i know its a nightmare <3
i have him on the backburner as an option! my main issues atm are that he only does in-person consults and i got quoted like 14k with insurance (20k without) which is double my current option..... but ive heard good things

Black history month (Canada edition)
Tumblr media
Dr. George Phills
Dr. George Phills was a Black Psychologist who was committed to his profession and the community he served in Ontario. He learned very early in life the importance of family, strong community ties and a good education. He and his siblings were taught that with hard work and determination, hardship could be overcome so that immigrant families can build a rich life for themselves. These values were instilled in them by his father Isaac (who was the first Black man in Canada to receive the Order of Canada), and his mother, Mary Alda Phills.
Dr. Phills returned to Sydney in 1963 where he was the head of a child guidance clinic. Next, he joined the London Board of Education as a Consulting Psychologist. Later he became the chief psychologist for the London Board, a position he held for 22 years. He always led the department with a clear vision, a high level of integrity and an unwavering commitment to the importance of enhancing the welfare of students. While working at the London Board, he helped to guide many innovations which included but are not limited to School Teams, Early Identification Process, Social Skills Project, and the Tragic Event Response Team. Dr. Phills supported many students throughout his career, giving them sound advice, unwavering support and encouragement that made a lasting difference to their lives.
Dr. Phills held a teaching position at Western University and served on the Board of Directors of many major mental health services in London. As a Psychologist, he was a pioneer in addressing hazing among athletes and teams in the Ontario Hockey Association. Further, Dr. Phills was invited to do workshops on Psychology in several provinces across the country and spent two years teaching Psychology at the University of the West Indies in Trinidad. His work on behalf of the Black community in London needs to be noted. He worked unselfishly on behalf of many of its members who sought his counsel and help with family issues. He was also called upon to help many of them who were experiencing systemic racism in London's community systems.
Dr. Phills was committed to developing the profession of Psychology in Ontario. He had a role in establishing the Ontario College of Psychology, the governing body of Psychologists in the province. His inspiring leadership led to the development of Psychological Services within the London Board of Education in the 1970s. His contributions to the advancement of Psychology in Ontario did not go unnoticed. In 1990, he was awarded the prestigious Bea Wicket Award for contributions in Education and Mental Health. In 1995, the Frank Brennan Award was bestowed on him for his contributions in London on behalf of children and families in crisis. In 1996, he was the recipient of the Distinctive Service Award given by the London and Region Psychological Association.
In retirement, Dr. Phills continued to help others. He had always enjoyed sports which included golf, tennis, and curling. He combined his love for sports and his skill in psychology to do private consulting and counselling. He also loved music. He was a founding member of the Forest City Choir. He was also a person of faith. Dr. Phills was an active member of St. John’s the Divine Anglican Church in Arva. On many Sunday mornings, he could be found doing readings and prayers as part of the morning service.
Dr. Phills died in 2021 at the age of 85. However, his legacy will not be forgotten by the students with whom he worked, members of the Black community, and his staff at the London Board of Education. He will be remembered as a man with an engaging personality, and a man who sought only the best in others.

Intro Post
Good day citizens, it is me, The Commissioner of Ninjago City. My subordinates have explained to me it to be imperative to improve our social media presence. Thus, I obliged the requests (whining) and created a Tumblr account for the department.
I am not the best with computers and I am quite busy keeping Ninjago City up to par for our wonderful Mayor. So, I have entrusted responses to any questions to a few of the officers here at the Police Department when I am unavailable. Below, you will find their introductions.
Hello everyone (not humans bc there's plenty more than just humans in Ninjago. Like, how many species are here now? I've lost count.). My name is Laura, I've been working at the dept. for around 5 years, I'm a detective. Before being an officer, I was a psychologist at the mental institution. I'm at least 30yrs old (I've forgotten specifics). If I respond to your asks, I'll sign it with the simple letter L since I'm the only one with an L name.
-L
Yoyoyo I'm Chuck! I'm a patrol officer and fun fact I was one of the officers that got locked up by Emperor Garmadon's group of crazies in the prison. Like the Commissioner, I'm also not that great with tech, all these newbies at the dept. keep trying to show me what Snapchat filters are and how to use them. If I answer your ask, I'll reply with just a Chuck!
-Chuck
Sup GAngsters, its ur homie Greg. Im new here at the dept and i take full cred for this acc bc the commissioner gets annoyed really easily by youngsters. i think thats why he hated the new ninja so much. im a HUGE ninja fan btw, i hope to meet them someday! oh yeah, im like 23 and ill let you know its me answering u by saying "ya boy G"
-ya boy G
Hi! I'm Sydney! I'm also new here at the dept, joined around the same time as Greg, he's my cousin! I'm 22 and if you get me answering you, I'll let you know by signing my nickname, Syd!
-Syd
OOC & LORE INFO BELOW
OOC: I created this account for shits and giggles. All of the characters/oc's ive made are adults but in NO WAY IS NSFW PERMITTED!!
For personality explanation: Laura is like the mom of the group, Chuck is the confused uncle, Greg is the hyperactive and way to "hip" son, and Sydney is the golden child who takes care of Greg.
I probably will use them more than the Commissioner, but feel free to ask him questions too.
The timeline for this gang of sillies is just after Crystalized (Season 16) so they don't know about the merge yet. Feel free to ask them about it but know they wont know what you mean.

The Sixth Sense (1999)
Malcolm Crowe, a child psychologist, starts treating a young boy, Cole, who encounters dead people and convinces him to help them. In turn, Cole helps Malcolm reconcile with his estranged wife.
Tumblr media
Warning: Review may contain spoilers. Read at your own risk.
JayBell: I guess you could say Bruce Willis' character is the main character of this movie, but honestly, the kid and his mother are what make the movie great. Is it my Bruce Willis Ubreakable/Glass trauma? Maybe.
But seriously, Haley Joel Osment is in the hall of fame of child stars for good reason. And Toni Collette kills it as concerned, overwhelmed single mother. Their scenes together stand out as the most emotional for me. I love the car scene where he finally decides to reveal the truth to his mother.
Part of the enjoyment of this movie is the big plot twist. Because I had seen The Sixth Sense before, a big part of my enjoyment was listening to Anzie's comments and trying not to give anything away.
The heart of this movie isn't about the supernatural at all. It's about learning to trust the people who love you, reaching out when you're struggling, and learning to grieve and let go.
Rating: 7/10 cats 🐈
Tumblr media
Anzie: Soo there’s really only two things to truly discuss about this movie. First, not only is Haley Joel Osment adorable, he’s the best crier I’ve ever seen next to Sydney Sweeny’s Euphoria Breakdownâ„ąïž. Second. I know I knew. Somehow I forgot. But when I realized what was happening like halfway through I was shocked and I felt so dumb. I wasn’t mad either. It’s a really good plot twist and if I wasn’t so good at sleuthing 🙄 I would’ve screeched at the big reveal and promptly died on the floor. But the start had weird vibes - like I def thought the kid that shot him was a future scene and maybe the rest would be a flash back but NOooooooo. He’s a GhOsT. I really only got it when I started realizing he never had any scenes except with the kid plus when they accused the mom of abuse at the hospital - bc I figured the kids therapist would get involved. Overall I do like the spooky mystery vibes (don’t appreciate the ghost vomit or the one kid’s head).
^ side note I can’t watch Bruce Willis without having Unbreakable/Spilt/Glass Flashbacks but it is good to know M. Night Shyamalan didn’t do him soooo dirty.
^second side note I appreciate how everything comes together to show that even after a year of KNOWING your loved one is dead it’s still difficult to move on *coughcoughCastawaycough*

( tw: abandonment, adoption, death )
Aylin’s life has always revolved around proving herself. There isn't much known about her life before she became a Carrigan other than that she was born in Istanbul, Turkey. Adopted by the Carrigan's when she was turning two years old, it's uncertain as to why she was abandoned, but when she was found wandering around a marketplace, she was taken to a local orphanage when no one came to claim her. Moving to Aurora Bay was more than a culture shock, but thankfully, she was young enough to assimilate and her adoptive parents was veterans when it came to bringing children into their home. While her adopted home life was full of genuine happiness and love, there was always the feeling that Aylin had to be the best at everything she did. Her parents filled her life with activities; swimming, gymnastics and especially ballet; her favorite of them all.
Full of encouragement, her parents enthused that she should continue and enhance her ballet skills and soon she was fast-tracked to be a lead ballerina. And for so many years, this strict life of dance was all she knew. Graduating high school with good enough grades, the plan was to continue on dancing in college. But life never goes according to plan. When practising relentlessly in a pas de deux, Aylin took a spill and it resulted in a severe head injury that required surgery. Her parents, while supportive, decided that maybe she needed a break from ballet while she recovered.
As her recovery progressed, Aylin realised how much time had gone by without her knowing. She had missed proms, dates, boys and parties; all the things that make up a childhood. After a lot of thought, she decided to retire from dancing and study psychology at the USC. Well, it was her freshman year that she met a senior studying business who charmed her so hard that they were married within a year. Aylin had experienced what she thought was love before, but never like this. She was enamoured from the moment they met. And while she knew her parents would never bless their marriage for being so quick, it didn’t matter. He was all she needed now.
When it came to arrange the wedding, Aylin had her heart set on finding her birth mother and inviting her. She never told anyone in her family, lest they think they weren't enough for her. There was a deep need to understand where she came from. Since she was now over the age of eighteen, she was able to do so. Despite the protests of her soon-to-be husband, Aylin tried her best to find her mother but could only ever find her name. Sabiha Sadik. Those she contacted advised that her mother was no longer alive and this left Aylin heartbroken. When it came time for her to change her name, she decided to add her birth mother's name at the end of her name, instead of taking her new husbands. It caused many arguments between the two, but Aylin held steadfast that she needed to honor where she came from.
After they were married and both graduated, Ari and Aylin moved to Silicon Valley, where her husband was in deep in developing new businesses from the ground up. In Aylin's mind, however, this meant settling down and starting a family. However, her husband received a promotion, one that he refused to turn down even if it required traveling most of the time and leaving no space for kids anytime soon. It took long hours of ‘mature’ discussions before the two finally came to an agreement, one that Aylin wasn’t entirely content with but she was not about to end her marriage over it, otherwise her meticulous ten-year plan would have definitely fallen apart.
When Ari and Aylin returned back to Silicon Valley from Aurora Bay for his work, she thought it was the right choice. She was doing everything she could for her marriage and it looked like it was working. But it all came out on her 30th birthday. The deep dark secret that had haunted their marriage finally came out. Once Aylin had learned of the emotional affair Ari had with his co-worker, she couldn't stay. It was the betrayal, the lying - the thought of denying herself for so long to make a marriage work that was doomed from the start. Without a second thought, Aylin packed her stuff and moved back into the holiday house in her home town.
born in istanbul, turkey — she was adopted by the carrigan’s when she was two years old. she has lived in aurora bay for most of her life until she went away to college at university of southern california. she then lived in silicon valley, los angeles until recently.  — ( possible connections: old friends, childhood crushes, chance encounters, college buddies from usc )

JOEL CAUCHI
JOEL CAUCHI
Queensland murderer Joel Cauchi, 40, killed five women and one man on Saturday, 13 April 2024. He pre-planned the killing and knew what he was doing. He was targeting women and was filmed dodging men. Before the day he killed his victims, he was working out what was the best shopping centre to target his victims in, he settled on Bondi Junction Westfield.
We now know the six victims involved and there are still seriously injured victims in hospital.
It is confirmed the reason why Joel Cauchi targeted women, his father said it was because he ‘wanted a girlfriend’ and was frustrated. Cauchi, was a single male, mentally ill and was known to go to nudist beaches, strip clubs, and listed himself on an escort website in Sydney. He was interested in weapons, knives and tried to join a gun group before the massacre. The police were aware of his mental illness and his interest in weapons.
Cauchi was an entitled male who most probably believed that because he wanted a woman, HE should have a girlfriend. Because he didn’t have a girlfriend, he lashed out and killed women and harmed and killed any male (including a security guard) who got in his way. He even attempted to kill a 9-month-old baby girl, who is still in hospital in stable condition (one of the victims is the babys mother). This is a man that didn’t respect women as people.
A woman, aged 36, was stabbed on Bondi Beach on Friday, 12 April, the day before the Westfield killings. The perpetrator of that attack hasn’t been arrested or identified. Was this incident linked to Cauchi? Or is it just a coincidence?
Criminal psychologist Dr Watson-Munro stated that Cauchi ‘knew what he was doing’ and that “
here was somebody who was on a mission, he knew what he wanted to do and he did it with deadly affect.”

Sydney Powell left a Summit County courtroom in tears Thursday after being sentenced to life in prison for the slaying of her mother.
Powell, 23, will be eligible for parole after 15 years.
Powell was convicted in a jury trial in Summit County Common Pleas Court of murder and other charges related to the death of her mother Brenda Powell in March 2020.
Sydney’s attorneys argued that she was not guilty by reason of insanity, and called three experts who said Sydney had a psychotic break. Prosecutors, though, called a fourth expert who said Sydney wasn’t insane when she repeatedly hit her mother with a cast-iron skillet and stabbed her with a steak knife.
Powell plans to appeal.
“This wasn’t justice,” Don Malarcik, Sydney’s attorney, said after her sentencing.
Malarick asked Judge Kelly McLaughlin to impose the minimum sentence of 15 years to life. Prosecutors, though, urged McLaughlin to impose an additional three years in prison for a tampering charge.
McLaughlin followed the defense’s recommendation in imposing the minimum sentence.
Steven Powell, Sydney's father and Brenda Powell's husband, and Betsy Brown, Sydney's maternal grandmother, had urged prosecutors not to take Sydney's case to trial and to reach a resolution. Prosecutors, though, moved forward with the trial anyway, saying they would leave it to a jury to decide.
Jurors convicted Sydney of two counts of murder — one that means purposely causing a death and the other that involves causing a death as the result of a felonious assault — as well as felonious assault and tampering with evidence.
Powell's trial featured testimony from four experts
Powell’s trial spanned three weeks and was divided into two parts. In the first, prosecutors presented evidence on Brenda Powell’s slaying. In the second, several experts testified about whether Sydney was insane when she killed her mother, whom many said was her best friend.
Defense expert James Reardon said Sydney suffered a psychotic break when she killed her mother. He was one of three defense experts who evaluated Sydney and diagnosed her with schizophrenia. They found that, because of this mental disorder, she didn’t understand the wrongfulness of her actions when she killed her mother.
Sylvia O’Bradovich, however, a psychologist hired by prosecutors, disagreed with the three defense experts. She said Sydney didn’t meet the legal definition of insanity at the time of the crime.
O’Bradovich, who is with Summit Psychological Associates, said Sydney does have mental health issues, including borderline personality traits, malingering and an unspecified anxiety disorder.
