can you imagine being Nakahara Chuuya, 15 years old? for starters you’re 15 which by itself is a nightmare but whatever. you’re the head of this weird kid gang in the slumps where you grew up and btw you also don’t remember anything that happened before the age of 8. you can manipulate gravity which is pretty cool and you have some friends ish that you have to protect (aka said gang members that are also just kids and early teenagers) because you just have a heart so big that won’t fit inside your ribcage but whatever. and you know how 15yos are they have like their own language and behavior for each of their own little social groups and if you don’t act or talk or whatever that way then you’re like really weird, but whatever.
one day you find this weird kid that is dressed like he walked right out of his own funeral and is also covered in bandages and just won’t fucking shut up. he’s the most annoying *thing* you’ve ever seen even though he’s barely alive. You obviously beat him up right away and then he becomes even weirder. suddenly you’re stuck with the weirdest boy you could have ever imagined. he’s the dumbest person alive, he communicates by staring into your soul with his one(1) empty void of an eye and saying absolutely nothing. he acts like he has never had a single social interaction in his life. he declares his love for you within the same day of meeting him. Btw, you’re stuck with him for the next seven years. Oh, and he lives in a metal container in a dump. Also he has like two friends which you are pretty sure don’t even like him either. one of them barely talks and is somehow even weirder than the boy itself and the other one is an absolute stuck up which you are pretty sure might be a double agent but no one says anything despite how obvious it seems to you. you still aren’t sure whether this boy wants to die or not. he is an absolute machine at playing arcade video games but a completely useless piece of shit at everything else. He rolls on the floor when he’s focused. oh and also he has stated several times that he spends every waking moment thinking of how to make you miserable, and somehow he still would never let you die.
i guess he’s your friend?

Autism does not need to come with "exceptionalism" to be accepted.
Autism does not need to come with special skills or talents to be accepted.
Playing into the narrative that autistics have something they can offer to the world, to society, in a form of a special skill in order to make autism more palatable, acceptable, helpful, essentially plays into the notion of an autistic "superpower".
We should be accepting of autism even if it doesn't come with "benefits" to society.

time for my monthly mp3 player propaganda post!
yall. don't fucking stream music off of youtube or spotify. they pay their creators shit. the most generous estimate i could find was artists being paid $1 for every 200 streams (0.5¢ per stream), and unless you're listening to songs on an album thousands times in total, it helps tremendously more to just. buy their albums or subscribe to a patreon-like service for them
mp3 players are laughably inexpensive (you can get a decent one with bluetooth for like $40-50 and you can get away with even less if you forego some features), many of them are drag-and-drop, no ads, decent enough sound quality for the average person, unlimited skips, track selection, regular play and shuffle, playlists, being able to shut off your screen, and more importantly, ALL OF THIS IS AVAILABLE WITHOUT A SUBSCRIPTION. i've always been an avid hater of subscription models. there are some things where it's understandable, but you shouldn't lose access to basic QOL features just because you can't or won't fork over $10-15 a month.
"b-b-but $50 is so expensive!" WRONG. $50 (which is more than i've EVER spend on a single mp3 player) is the equivalent to 5 months on spotify premium without discounts. if you can afford that, it's worth investing into a device that can last you literal years if you get a good one and take good care of it
"but i don't wanna carry around another device!" fair enough, but these things are small enough to fit in tiny pockets (mine fits snugly in the watch pocket of my jeans) and are typically light enough to not be burdensome. if you can carry around your phone, you can carry around an mp3 player
"what if people think i'm weird for having outdated technology" let them. it's worth it in my opinion if it means i get to listen to music ad-free. the most I've ever gotten was "wooooah bro's got the dinosaur tech" and i just thought that was funny personally
"but what if the artist collapses without a constant stream of money!!! i'm not supporting the artist!!!!!" companies try to pay as little as they can get away with to artists. most of that money goes to the CEO and other higher-ups.
"but piracy is bad!" Piracy is a Crime. However, downloading youtube videos/audio for your own PERSONAL, NON-COMMERCIAL USE and NOT REDISTRIBUTING THEM is legal (generally, in the US, check your laws, i am not a lawyer, not legal advice, blah blah blah). besides, i never said you had to pirate your music. in fact, i encourage you to buy the albums of and support your favourite artists in other ways. some artists might even provide links for people to download their songs for free in high quality anyway
not gonna link products just in case someone thinks i'm a shill. but literally just look up "mp3 player" on your search engine or shopping site of choice and find something that doesn't look like it'll fall apart if you breathe on it too hard
seriously guys. if you listen to music more than like a few hours a week, and you don't get all of your music from livestreams or radios (although mine can connect to AM/FM radio), consider investing in an mp3 player. i tried out using one regularly in fall of 2021, and I haven't looked back. don't let companies drain subscription money from you

There are benefits to being "ugly."
When you are "ugly," you fly under the radar. You do not register to them as the woman you are. You're a person sometimes, but most of the time you are invisible. It's better than when you were in middle and high school and they could all see you and remind you that you were "ugly," but that time has passed and your skill at hiding has come to protect you now.
Now nobody sees you. You are unassuming as you walk up the street. You do not wear flashy clothes or makeup because they're uncomfortable on your body, and they make it easier for you to be seen. You do not want to be seen anymore, except for those lonely moments when you do and wish you were not "ugly." But you were branded by age 12 and so you are perpetually "ugly" now and so being noticed is not something you get to have, not without sacrificing who you are. You have to be someone else for that, but then you're just lying, and someday they will find out that you are "ugly" and leave in anger and disgust like all the others.
There are many drawbacks to being "ugly," sure, but the benefits outweigh them - you can pass unnoticed in this world. You can quietly get things done and no one will even realize until you're gone. You are subtle, easy to forget. You slip their minds so easily because you are reliable but invisible. They don't remember you, and although this hurts on your birthday, it helps with direct action and sabotage and being a spy, if you want to do those things.
But usually you don't. Usually you just want to be acknowledged and loved, and when you are "ugly" those things are always out of reach for you, because it is easier for them to pretend a blight like you does not exist. When they are forced to acknowledge you, it is so often with vitriol at worst and pained tolerance at best. They do not want you. None of them do. But you are there for them no matter what, because you are needed whether they like it or not. You are reliable. You are functional. You are the only reason things don't fall apart.
But you are "ugly," and so you will never be rewarded for your service, except for the occasional companionship of being used. That is all you get, because you are "ugly."
One day, perhaps, you will decide that you are not actually "ugly," and you will leave them behind, because you will realize that you get to determine who you are on your own terms, not theirs. You may find other "ugly" people like you and begin to understand that how you were treated was wrong. You might even feel the sun of recognition and kindness shine upon your face, learn what it means to be loved.
But for now you are "ugly," and that will have to suffice.

it is a little bit nice that autism is kind of just. the norm in mathematics. maybe i'm exaggerating but i do feel confident in saying that there are disproportionately many autists studying math and it makes it easier to sort of just exist.

He’s a fun character. I know he’s suppose to look generic but I still think he looks pretty unique, maybe because of his personality and lore carrying most of his character. Otherwise I love it when he’s drawn as some thumb monster.
Oh and also he wasn’t meant to be autistic according to an interview, personally I’m a bit bummed out that we don’t have a canon neurodivergent character as a protagonist, but hey, autistic headcannons are always welcome as long as they don’t harass the creator or are mean about it.

ROSE: If you are all so desperate for a black circle with a bright ring around it in the sky, why not consider adding a small black hole to the solar system? Could be kind of fun?
JADE: theres a "ninth planet" out toward the kupier belt that we cant find but we know its mass based on the effects it has on the other planets and bodies in the area!!
JADE: one of the theories on why we couldnt find the damn thing was that it was a black hole the size of a grapefruit which is the funniest semi-serious suggestion ive heard in a scientific forum in a long time
ROSE: Bring it to me.
ROSE: I will eat it like the grapefruit.

I love you autistics with high empathy. I love you autistics with average empathy. I love you autistics with low empathy. I love you autistics with no empathy.
Empathy and sympathy are emotional functions that don’t determine your morality or character. Compassion and kindness are skills that can be improved upon and constantly used no matter what your empathy status is.
Being a good person isn’t about feeling “right,” it’s about doing right.
