It's probably fairly evident at this point that I don't understand Tumblr. But .... And this is 100000000% not a complaint - Dead Boy Detectives is trending at #7 in the UK yet Sandman isn't? Like it doesn't appear on the list at all?
I'm insanely happy that DBDA is finally getting a bit more recognition (well deserved imho) but the Sandman is also an epic show?? Maybe it's just here in the UK 🤷🏻‍♀️

The software that they use is so old, bespoke, broken, and has a million different extra thingies added on after the fact by different companies that all probably no longer exist which makes it exceedingly slow and painful to use and that’s on top of everything that they have to do every day to keep the waiting lists down
If I had full, unilateral control over every aspect of every medical system on the planet, as well as having infinite resources and an infinite pool of people to hire from, average patient seeing times would be changed from 10 minutes to an hour for the average person with longer appointments available when necessary
Each doctor and nurse would have 2 assistants who would be (well paid and) trained on proper note keeping and doing all of the ancillary administrative tasks that are necessary
Anything less means that things that really should be seen to will be missed because of all the extra stuff that they have to do, and the way things are just now, they have to do everything with all the extra stuff and see so many patients every day - it’s not feasible to have them do what they’re doing and still provide any real good quality of care. That they’re able to do what they’re doing just now is nothing short of a miracle
Favorite part of seeing a new doctor: when they ask about birth control
Doctor: Sexually active?
Me: I'm over 35 and have a toddler, so we'll say yes but it's really more of an aspirational thing.
D: Hormonal birth control?
M: No.
D: Are you trying to get pregnant?
M: Ha, no, once was more than enough.
D: Barrier method?
M: Just the aforementioned toddler, so no.
D: If you don't want to get pregnant, you really should be using some form of birth control.
M: Oh, I am. I find that the absence of fallopian tubes is extremely effective.
D: o___o checks my record Oh. Right.
M: >:-}

Non-Britons! Instead of being distracted by the pomp and fanfare of the coronation, here’s a reminder that:
The coronation was funded by tax-payer money. This same tax could have gone towards the cost of living crisis. People are starving and freezing to death as this is going on.
Protests (peaceful or otherwise) are illegal now. A lot of anti-monarchists are being arrested for simply holding signs.
Our government is currently trying to push through a revision to the Equality Act that will exclude trans and non-binary individuals.
Oil companies have made a record profit in the past couple of years. Oil and gas prices aren’t rising because of an inflation issue.
Our NHS is crumbling because funding is going to stupid projects like this coronation.

Excuse the format (I made this for instagram since that's what the publisher wants, rip) but this is basically a shorter, easy-to-read version of the history section at the back of my new book.
(Part 2 || The book)
---
Disclaimer: I'm extremely not an expert, and this is only scratching the very surface of complex topics that are hard to simplify. I mostly made this to EXTREMELY rec these books and podcasts, and would urge you to go check them out if you're not familiar!!
This stuff might seem obvious to some of you, but let me tell you, I do NOT think it's widely known in the general UK population.
Imo a lot of the general (especially white) public think that the Windrush generation - Caribbean migrants brought in to help rebuild postwar Britain in the 50s - were the first Black communities in the UK. And yet there's deliberately not much focus on why the Caribbean has links with northern europe. HMMMM
(Britain loves, for example, to celebrate the abolition of slavery without mentioning WHAT CAME BEFORE IT - Britain being the biggest trader of enslaved people, with more than 1 million people enslaved in the British Caribbean. They literally just did it overseas.)
Telling the truth about history or British imperialism gets this massive manufactured backlash at the moment. There are so many ideas prevalent in UK politics - anti-Black, anti-refugee, anti-trans - based on going ‘back’ to some imaginary version of the past. Those are enabled by a long tradition of carving parts out of the historical record, and being selective about whose histories get told and preserved. Even though the book I was making is a fun rom-com, by the time I finished researching, I decided to make an illustrated history section at the back too (this is a mini version). My hope is that readers who haven’t come across these histories might get an introduction to them - and some pointers of what they could read next to get a clearer view of our past.

gonna be real, i literally don't give a shit whether charlie dies or not. he's only going to be replaced by his bald son and the monarchy will continue as it always has.
what i do care about is how this is going to be all over the news for the foreseeable even though tens of thousands of people are dying in a genocide our government is helping to fund, how people in our own country are suffering because of the cost of living crisis and the tories practically trying to tear the nhs (and many other public services) down.
and if he does die? we'll have to watch as this 'no money for the nhs' is funnelled into another state funeral and coronation. forgive me if i don't participate in the celebrations

Sometimes you'll be reading a fic set in the UK and then they talk about seeing a raccoon and you have to take a second to just blink and work out how to accept that before you keep reading.

OP: Check out. The fully-sexual charged cinematic movement design.
Cnetizens: How did the director come up with the idea to have him kneel on a playing card, adding so much aesthetic energy, is that some kind of genius?

#china#cdramas#dramas#lmao#They are siblings and they're discussing serious matters#this scene is actually rather heavy because the younger brother is involved in drug trafficking#carrying more than 50 grams of heroin will result in a death sentence in china let alone being involved in drug trafficking#the older brother is a gangster king#but even he doesn't dare to get involved in the drug business because it will bring about the demise of his family#sorry for digression I mean how did the director make this scene which has absolutely nothing to do with sex#so sexually charged?#btw there're many posts with rich information about China's crackdown on drug crimes on xhs and douyin#especially about how the four major drug-trafficking families in Myanmar were wiped out overnight#they buried undercover Chinese counter-narcotics police alive and kidnapped and brutally excuted civilians#so if you're interested you can go with the key words 缅甸四大家族覆灭 on xhs and douyin#cnetizens' views on drugs are related to modern Chinese history#the first chapter of modern history in high school textbooks is the opium wars#There's a very dark joke on xhs about which country in the world would least like China to withdraw from the P5#and the answer is the UK#because it's in the first chapter of China's modern history#the Destruction of opium at Humen in 1839#no offence but Breaking Bad can't last for more than one episode if it happens in china because of the sewer detection technology#they can detect the tiniest amount of drugs in feces in a body of water the size of a lake for up to six months#which can be quickly locked down to neighbourhoods and portals#Once a foreigner was caught smuggling and selling 222.035 kg drugs in China and sentenced to death with two other Chinese associates#his country's prime minister asked for his extradition#cnetizens commented that there was an opium war and he still dare to come to China to sell drugs be like 找死court death#All the above information is to explain the gangster king's attitude towards his brother's drug business

As an outsider, I do think it's very telling that the only good thing they can think of to say about that guy who got shot is that he was a father.
Not just because everybody should have more good things to say about them than that, but because… he ran a company that (in theory) pays for people's healthcare?
Like, that's what a health insurance is, right? The Americans have way too expensive healthcare for any normal person to afford, so they get insurance to help them pay. That's supposed to be the deal, isn't it?
And yet nobody is posting saying stuff like: “my Auntie Mabel would have died from her cancer, if UHC insurance hadn't paid for her treatment!”
Or “after the accident, I thought Timmy would never walk again, but thanks to physiotherapy paid for because we had UHC insurance he's playing for his school football team!”
In fact, a bunch of people are saying stuff like: “after the accident, I thought Timmy would never walk again— and I was right, because UHC said that being bipedal was a pre-existing condition, and Timmy ended up dying from gangrene due to lack of treatment.”
Like, the NHS has done a lot of fucked up stuff (google 'NHS scandal' for examples) and has some bullshit policies. But they also help people on a daily basis, because that's their job.
What the fuck service is UHC meant to be providing? Because it apparently isn't helping many people pay for healthcare.
