I love that as a Bennett witch enthusiast! I went to look it up and share the days for my followers who could be in Atlanta and wanted to attend.

The Bennett witches deserved proper screentime to tell their stories! They created and helped everyone within the supernatural world. But, in this franchise that means nothing because they weren’t white. Not to make this post negative here’s some Bennett witch actresses together. I still petition that Emily should’ve came back in some way. Thanks to Lucy’s actress Natashia Williams she shared some behind the scenes photos from the series finale. Last year at a con Jasmine Guy and Persia White snapped a photo.

Kat and Janina look so cozy here. I wish the show cared to develop Qetsiyah and Bonnie versus the route they went with.

If Richard was a vampire, what kind would he be? Like would he sparkle like from Twilight? Would he come from The Lost Boys universe, or Fright Night or Interview with a Vampire?

Oh dear, dear Anon, now you've really stirred something up here... Once I start talking about vampires, especially in connection with Richard, it can get very long, very detailed, and very rambling (as you see below). On top of that, it’s the kind of thing that interests about 0.2% of this fandom, while the rest probably falls asleep halfway through. BUT WHO CARES. (well, I do...) I’m still going to answer extensively, as I have quite a few thoughts on this.

I’ll first introduce the key traits of various vampire races across different vampire media (series, films, books), including some of the ones you mentioned and a few I myself find important (I just chose a few, otherwise this would've gotten endless). I’ll use bullet points to make things easier to follow. Then, I’ll compare those traits with Richard’s aesthetic and estimate which characteristics would suit him best.

Some vampire characteristics (I forgo mentioning the teeth since at least this is pretty similar):

Interview with a Vampire (book by Anne Rice & movie from 1994) vampires stop aging after they're turned - pale, with luminous skin - require human/animal blood to survive - transition: through through the exchange of blood with a vampire - exposure to sunlight is fatal (burning skin etc), fire is also deadly - crosses and holy water have no effect on them - no reflections in mirrors - sleep not really necessary, still rest during the day

-> a quite typical and traditional depiction of vampires.

The vampire diaries (books by Lisa J. Smith and show from 2009-2017) stop aging after their transformation - eyes darken, veins appear beneath them, and their fangs emerge when feeding or angry - rapid healing abilities - human becomes a vampire by dying with vampire blood in their system, followed by completing the transition through feeding on blood - sunlight burns and weakens them, solution: daylight ring made by a witch - weakened by Vervain (burns their skin) - die by stike through the heart as well as from beheading, heart ripped out of their chest, fire, werewolf bites - Vampires can compel humans to obey their commands - can suppress their emotions by turning off their humanity - "original vampires" as the origin of all vampires

-> a more modern interpretation with some loopholes for the vampires

Black Dagger Brotherhood (books by J. R. Ward) larger and more physically imposing than humans, excellent fighters - eyes change color when they feed - extraordinarily long lifespans, but they are not completely immortal (can be f.e. killed by explosions) - can only survive by drinking the blood of the opposite sex from their own species - Vampires are born, not made: transition from mortal to full vampire during their mid-20s, is extremely dangerous, often fatal - Sunlight is deadly - Vampires form intense, lifelong mating bonds to their "shellans" - strong sexual drives, closely tied to their feeding habits and emotional connections - require downtime during the day - some vampires possess unique powers (mind control, telekinesis)

-> a quite dramatic and very emotionally charged interpretation

The Lost Boys (movie from 1987) maintain a human appearance, but reveal monstrous features when feeding or fighting - do not age and can live forever - can be killed by a wooden stake to the heart, decapitation, or severe injuries - possess superhuman strength, speed, agility - can fly or hover - transition by drinking vampire blood - require human blood to survive - sunlight is deadly - garlic and holy water burn and repel them - no reflections in mirrors - form groups or "packs" - killing the vampire "leader" (head vampire) can reverse the transformation for those who haven't fully turned

-> mixture of traditional and more modern-fantasy elements

Twilight (books by Stephanie Meyer, movies 2008 - 2012) pale skin that sparkles in sunlight - eyes change color based on their diet (gold: animal blood, red: human blood) - do not age and can live forever - superhuman strength, speed, reflexes - heal instantly from injuries unless they're torn apart and burned - human becomes a vampire if bitten and exposed to venom - are not harmed by sunlight, yet prevent it due to their skin - bodies are described as hard as stone - do not sleep or rest - some vampires possess unique supernatural powers (telepathy, precognition, emotional manipulation) - form covens or families - not affected by garlic, holy water, crosses, or wooden stakes

-> a modern and romantized way of characterisation

Dracula (book by Bram Stoker, movie 1992) pale with blood-red lips (book, movie in the beginning)) - do not age and immortal - possess superhuman strength, speed, and heightened senses - have the ability to hypnotize or mentally control their victims - require human blood to survive - human becomes a vampire by drinking a vampire’s blood after being fed upon repeatedly - sunlight weakens them, yet does not kill them immediately - can be killed by a wooden stake through the heart, decapitation, or exposure to sunlight and fire - are repelled by crosses, crucifixes, holy water, and consecrated ground - no reflections in mirrors - less powerful during the day, prefer to rest in their coffins filled with soil from their homeland - can summon and command nocturnal creatures like bats, wolves, and rats

-> most likely the most famous characterisation of vampires

Nosferatu (movies from 1922, 1979 and 2024) either rodent-like appearance (1922, 1979) or grotesque rotten corpse aesthetic - do not age and immortal, yet appearance seems to change through the years - require human blood to survive - completely destroyable by sunlight - is associated with disease and pestilence - must sleep in coffins filled with soil from their homeland - raw, primal desires very evident (2024)

-> based on Dracula, yet still different (and unnecessarily hot in case of the 2024 version)

Now on to my small evaluation, which traits I could see in Richard:

Well, where do I begin? I’d most likely place Richard, on one hand, in the rather traditional universe of Interview with the Vampire. It fits his at-times very sophisticated demeanor - "very gentleman" (to quote him), very classic, very seductive. At first glance, he would fit perfectly into that world, also because it feels like it aligns with the dramatic stage persona he occasionally adopts.

Nevertheless, other traits also suit him if we indulge in vampire fantasy: the ability to manipulate others with unbeatable persuasion (compelling) from The Vampire Diaries, the pack mentality from The Lost Boys or Twilight when you think of his loyalty and love for the band and his family. Curling up at home with movies or retreating to his studio to recharge or find refuge - leaving aside the morbid aspects, this reminds me of the rest accommodations in Dracula or Nosferatu. And lastly, I also see him fitting well into the Black Dagger Brotherhood universe. The emotionality that sometimes overflows, the mutual loyalty among the brothers, and not least the strong attraction between the sexes, along with the significant focus on emotional and physical connection and lust.

As you can see, I can’t quite decide. Hopefully, this helps you anyway 👀

As for the other band members, I’m torn because I don’t see all of them fitting into the vampire direction when it comes to a fantasy AU. The one I could most imagine in the vampire realm would be Schneider - most likely in the Vampire Diaries direction. It’s just a feeling that this would suit him: some classic elements combined with loopholes that would allow him to enjoy life as a vampire.

here's a total rundown + some more questions i collected from my inbox.

how did it feel being a noble person in babylon?

honestly...kind of god-tier. being a noble meant automatic respect, like people bowed, they averted their eyes if they were not of high enough status. i did not really have to do anything myself, there were servants for literally everything. but also, nobility was not just lounging around eating figs, there were expectations, responsibilities, political marriages. the social structure was rigid as hell, and stepping out of line could ruin you. but the luxury was unparalleled. the oil massages, the silks, the elaborate jewellery that made modern gold look like tin foil.

did you learn something that isn’t spoken about now? like ancient magic or lost knowledge?

yes. actually, i was a witch!! anyways. there were priest-scholars who had knowledge passed down orally, things never written down. astrology was not just a hobby, it dictated everything. they read the stars like a language, predicting wars, famine, even personal destinies. i also learned a lot about incantations, protection spells, herbal medicines that do not exist anymore. some of the knowledge felt.........dangerous. there were things they knew about the human body, the mind, the universe that we just do not anymore. and yes, there were rituals, some of them eerie as hell, but undeniably powerful.

were the clothes as colourful and pretty as someone can imagine?

more. the dyes they had were insanely rich. deep blues, vibrant reds, golden yellows. and embroidery was indeed next level. everything was woven with gold threads, beads, little intricate patterns. the noble outfits were layered. linen undergarments, then richly dyed wool, then embroidered shawls with fringe so soft it felt like clouds. men and women both wore jewellery, a lot of it, and perfumes were so strong they clung to the air around you.

did you have any pets?

yes. a caracal. it was a status thing, having an exotic animal. dogs were more common as working animals, guarding homes, but caracals were just........ elegant. and fast. they were seen as a symbol of power, and mine had gold hoops in its ears (yes, they pierced animals).

was the music good?

haunting. mesmerising. it was mostly lyres, harps, flutes, drums. very rhythmic, very hypnotic. there were actual musicians employed by the elite, and they performed at feasts, rituals, even just for noble entertainment. some melodies felt ancient even back then, like they had been played for centuries before. the chanting was otherworldly. i still hear some of it in my head when i wake up.

now, some extra questions i feel like answering because why not:

what did people eat?

bread, a lot of bread, but not like modern bread. denser, richer, with honey and dates. lamb was a big deal, lots of stews, vegetables like onions, leeks, cucumbers. and beer. beer was safer to drink than water half the time, and it was thick, almost porridge-y-like. also, honey was in everything.

how did people bathe?

public bathhouses for the less wealthy, private baths for nobles. oils and scented scrubs were used instead of soap. there were these clay cones filled with perfume that people would melt onto their skin. i swear i have never smelled so good in my life.

did people write a lot?

yes, but not like we do. everything was on clay tablets in cuneiform, and scribes were highly trained. writing was more for record-keeping, law, and religious texts, not casual journaling. but poetry, oh my god. they loved poetry, especially dramatic, epic tales about gods and kings.

was babylon as grand as history says?

grander. the walls were massive, the temples were imposing, and the hanging gardens (yes, they were real) were beyond anything i can describe. there were actual irrigation systems keeping everything lush, fountains flowing, flowers that don’t even exist anymore. everything was built to impress the gods and neighbouring cities. and it worked.

Do you see Klaus as an unreliable narrator in TO?

1000% yes.

He's a textbook narcissist so we have to remember everything he says comes from a place of being unable to look outside himself or to empathize with others. Which makes the entire narration of TO unreliable.

One example I can think of is when Elijah and Klaus are talking about Tatia (Elijah is also an unreliable narrator because he centers everything on Klaus. In my opinion due to guilt). We hear, and in TO see, how much Elijah cares for Tatia. But not really Klaus. We hear him and Elijah say Klaus loved Tatia, however, in the scenes in TO, Klaus essentially assaults Tatia by kissing her without even being concerned if she wants him to. Even when she pulls away from him, he just moves on. This isn't the actions of someone who is in love. And then when we see Tatia and Elijah interact, there is clearly some history. They have an ongoing flirtation. Yet, when Elijah and Klaus tell the story, it essentially focuses on their brotherly bond and less on Tatia. We don't hear how devastated Elijah was from her death, but how loving Tatia nearly broke their bond apart. Even when Elijah learns he was responsible for Tatia's death, instead of allowing him to feel that pain and grieve, he has to apologize to Klaus (and also deal with Klaus murdering his own father). Klaus doesn't react the way he did when he learned of what Elijah did to Aurora because he truly didn't care about Tatia. But he continues to push the narrative to center Elijah's past love interest around himself.

We see him do the same with Stefan in TVD, to the point where a large majority of the fandom believes Stefan and Klaus were romantically invovled despite being explicitly told that Rebekah and Stefan were invovled at the time. I'm not saying yes or no to either, but pointing out how the narrative impacts the viewers.

We also see this with how little emphasis the show puts on anyone that is not directly related to Klaus. Klaus is not the sole narrator of the show, but we can safely say it revolves around him. So characters like Aya, Celeste, Gia, Emil, etc. Their flashbacks are quick and just serve to explain how they know the Mikaelsons. Whereas, Klaus' love interest in the past, Aurora, gets exposition and depth through flashbacks.

The narration is told in a way that continues to victimize Klaus and brush aside his crimes. For example, when he lets Cami into his head to "scare her" and show her what a beast he is. He could show her endless slaughters, and that's just in the past year. He could show himself sacrificing a teenage girl or killing Jenna, stabbing his siblings, killing his mother, etc. But instead he shows himself turning for the first time and his family chaining him up to suppress his werewolf side. He doesn't even show the plethora of village people he just murdered which even scared Elijah. He only shows her what will create sympathy for him. We see this throughout their "talks." Even Cami calls him out on it multiple times for phrasing the story in a way that undermines how his siblings were feeling.

Contrast this to how Elijah's story is told. We already talked about Tatia and a lot of his exes. They are either explained very quickly and then moved on without allowing him/the audience time to grieve, or he they are handled through Klaus' POV so that their death's are justified/excused. But more than that, simply how his backstory is told, or Kol for that matter, is done in a less sympathetic light than Klaus.

We don't really see Elijah feed from people or murder without cause. That is up until the show decided to introduce the Red Door. This entire storyline is used to retcon Elijah as "the worse brother." But lets be honest, they've all killed so many people, why is Elijah killing seen as worse? Because they make it scary and bloody and it scares even the main characters. Whereas Klaus' trial is made to be humorous. The audience is supposed to laugh at Klaus forcing a girl to watch her mother burn alive because she was coughing too much. Even Klaus killing main characters like Carol are made to be humorous. They make Kol seem like this unhinged killer, but Klaus is the one who goes off and kills with him. When Kol does it, it's out of control. When Klaus does it, it's funny so their lives don't matter.

We see this with how the show treats Rebekah and her suitors. Rebekah is seen as naive because she keeps falling for the wrong people who take advantage of her. But Klaus is seen as compelling when he allows Caroline to manipulate him, to the point that it gets his brother killed. Or Aurora manipulate him to the point that it gets Rebekah kidnaped. Or Genevieve manipulate him to the point it gets Hayley killed and almost Hope. But when Klaus is manipulated, it's because he cares too much and the women took advantage of him. When it happens to Rebekah, it's because she's stupid and needs Klaus to make her decisions.

We see it in how Cami's transition is told. Cami is struggling throughout Season 3 but all Klaus sees is himself. To the point that when Cami snaps at him for pushing too far, the next scene is him killing a random art critic, essentially implying that it was her fault. She shouldn't have prioritized her own emotions and snapped at a grown man because he can't be responsible for his own actions.

TO thrives on Klaus being an unreliable narrator because it allows his misdeeds to be pushed to the back of the audience's mind and his victimization brought to the front. Even how he speaks about himself is unreliable. Initially, he blames Mikael for making him a monster. But then he learns his mother made him weak and blames her. But then he later blames Elijah for what he did to Aurora a year later. And throughout the show he blames all of his siblings for "abandoning" him when we never see a moment of them attempting to abandon him. Yes, I'm sure all of these things contributed, but the main point is that at no point does he blame himself. He never once takes accountability for his actions and no one ever makes him. Elijah and Rebekah attempt to several times, and lord knows Cami tried, but they are seen as unsympathetic in those moments through Klaus' eyes.

Not so secretly, you want her, and also not so secretly, she wants you. But Rebekah likes to be chased, she likes to be pampered, and she likes to make life hard. So though she also wanted you and enjoyed any previous advances you had given her, she was going to play hard to get.

"You again? Won't you ever learn to bugger off?" she huffs, turning away to hide her small smile at your presence. You catch the smile, though, and decide to play along despite the small pang in your chest.

"Never. What would i do without my favourite original by my side to talk to, hm?"

"Oh shush, Mr. Saltzman's starting his lesson, now let me borrow a pen"

This same back and forth continued between Rebekah and yourself for a few more days now and you stupidly began to think she would start being nice back. You shared your lunch, met when she called, watched her cheer leading try outs like she requested, even tied her laces for her once. And yet, today it seemed like it was going backwards.

"Oh go away, would you. You and-" Rebekah started, about to rant about the 'bloody Salvatores' and 'whiney Elena' but when she turned around to give you a practiced scowl she was met with the sight of you actually walking away.

The smile hidden under her grimace disappeared, wiped cleanly off of her face. Instead, a blank expression laid there, with eyes wide in surprise.

What was more surprising, though, was when you didn't show up for her practice. She no longer felt the need to show Caroline up, and slunk to the back of the group to peer at the stands.

Even more so, when she didn't see you sat next to her usual spot in history class. Instead at the front, doodling in your notebook.

Okay, so maybe it hurt a little. But she got what she asked for, right?

But what actually made her react was getting to the bonfire, expecting to speak to you and bicker - to hash it all out and move along - only to see you laughing with... Elena??

The two of you just looked like peas in a pod, giggling together and reminiscing about when you were closer as kids, when it was all less complicated. And then... and then you shared a smore. Like actually bit into the same one as that - that bitch!

And Rebekah was seething. Not that she really had any right to be.

And so she marched right up there, arms crossed in discontent, "A word, please?" and yet her tone indicated the 'please' was more of a 'get your arse up now'. And so, with a huff of annoyance and a shrug from you, Elena stood up to follow Rebekah. "Not you, you pest" she glared. Elena only looked to you with worry.

Brushing it off, you stood and followed Rebekah.

"What on earth has gotten into you lately? You've-" The blonde girl begins after sputtering for a few seconds

"I thought you wanted to be left alone bex, isn't that what you always tell me? To 'bugger off'?" and she has to hold back a wince at the way her own words are thrown back at her. "You asked to be left alone, and im leaving you alone. Is that all?"

"No that's not all!"

"Then what, hm?"

"Then... then-" she surges forward, kissing you deeply. "That, that's what!" she says angrily. "I'll see you Monday, in your normal seat, thank you very much" she turns to storm away, pointedly ignoring the hammering in her chest and the butterflies in her belly

"Okay" you whisper, fingers ghosting over your lips, mouth still tingling from the feel of hers. "See you Monday"

And that Monday she decides that maybe it's time to switch the narrative. Maybe its time for her to be attentive to you.
