Once again, I feel the need to point out that Gale did not know the orb was the Karsite Weave, capable of destroying Mystra, until she told him in Act 3. And that was after she had already ordered him to kill himself—only revealing the truth once he had set his sights on the Crown, which she wanted for herself.

Gale genuinely believed he was returning a lost piece of the Weave to her. He wasn’t trying to surpass her. He did it because he wanted to please her. He never felt worthy. Yes, he hoped that one day she would see him as her equal, allowing him access to the knowledge the gods kept hidden. His ambition, while misguided and reckless, was never malicious—he was not seeking to overthrow her or destroy her.

As a Chosen, Gale was already an incredibly powerful wizard, and it wasn’t his fault that he reached for something he didn’t even know existed. Mystra never warned him—she simply told him to be content. And when Gale takes the Crown (provided you’ve read the Book of Karsus), we learn that he is powerful enough to ascend to godhood. Yet, unless you pursue the Origin Evil ending, he doesn’t attempt to claim her domain—he creates his own. That is ambition, not hubris.

Gale’s ambition is not the equivalent of a man thinking he’s better than a woman, nor is it the act of someone trying to surpass a figure they have no skill in. His heartbreak is clear. He is devastated, and he is ready to obey Mystra’s order to sacrifice himself. You don’t think that if she had told him the truth from the start, he wouldn’t have begged her, pleaded with her in horror, to remove the orb and forgive him? But she only told him when he sought something she wanted. And even then, I have no doubt that had she simply asked him to give her the Crown in exchange for forgiveness, he would have done so. Instead she ordered him to die for it, and if you know what happens if he uses the orb in Act 2, you know that his death achieves nothing at that moment apart from her getting the crown.

The only reason he goes after the Crown at all is because it’s his only alternative to dying at Moonrise, and it's his chance to prove himself worthy. He is desperate at this point, but his indignation remains at the God's themselves and the way they treat mortals, not just Mystra. Gale is essentially going through a crisis of faith. I think many either forget or downplay this element of Gale's relationship with Mystra. She's an Omniscient, Omnipotent being, and Gale is a mere mortal. She had/ has all the power.

Thinking about Eddie being freshly 18 and not wanting to feel shame about his sexuality no more and wanting to explore it without getting caught by his uncle, doesn’t want to get kicked out of the only real home he’s know. so he drives out to indi and finds a queer club and feels so alive, he’s a little tipsy on the dance floor, and this cute guy is making eyes at him, and they start dancing together, getting closer and closer until Eddie doesn’t know where he ends and the cute guy begins. And he thinks “fuck this is it. This is how I’m supposed to feel. This is everything to me”, and for the first time ever he kisses a boy who kisses him back and doesn’t punch him in the face after.

Thinking about Wayne who gave up his life to raise his poor little orphaned nephew, had his entire existence thrown out of whack, who loves Eddie with every bone in his body and only wants the best for him, would kill for that little shit, and would kill himself if anything every happened to his boy. Who feels so much shame about who he is and who he’s loved, has put his own life and relationships on hiatus so Eddie would never have to know the truth, would never have to be ashamed of his uncle. Who, for the first time in over 10 years finally gets a break from some of the responsibilities. Eddies 18, an adult now, and for his birthday he’s decided to go camping with his friends to “become a real man”, so he takes his chance and drives up to Indi, finds his old stomping grounds and almost cries when he sees the transgender bartender who called him honeypot and would sneak him a free beer still working there.

Thinking about Eddie feeling so free and excited to just exist without judgement that he Drags that cute guy into the bathroom and feels shameless about his pleasure for the first time ever, tries new things, likes them all.

Thinking about Wayne sipping on his beer, feeling his bones completely relax for the first time in years, spots an old flame across the bar and can’t believe his eyes, he’s still just as hot as he was when they were 17. They get to talking, and then the talking turns into something else, something Wayne hasn’t done since he had to become a parent. And he feels a bit like a teenager again, drags that hot man into the bathroom and wants to have his way with him.

Thinking about Eddie stumbling out of the stall, wiping his mouth, cute guy giggling and clinging onto Eddie right behind him, freezing in his tracks. Wayne with his shirt half undone and a man trying to shove Wayne into the cubicle Eddie was Just in, trying to put his hands in the wrong places.

And they just lock eyes, and scream.

“I THOUGHT YOU WERE FUCKING CAMPING BOY?!”

funny, though - i don't think 9319 peter was in love with betty, exactly. not in the same way he was in love with gwen and johnny and wade and MJ and – i think what peter and betty had was a little bit different. i think they were kind of platonic. i mean - peter says it himself, he didn't know "love" until gwen.

i do think what peter and betty had was more akin to peter kind of wanting to prove he was a man. he got bit by a spider, and suddenly he felt like he was cool and could talk to girls. an older girl.

i think him dating betty was more of a wanting to prove himself and look cool instead of a genuine romantic interest - and while they were dating, peter was kind of so wrapped up in himself and his own insecurities to really get to know betty.

i think betty definitely liked peter, though. enough to remember all about his three freckles.

i kind of really adore peter and betty's dynamic. peter's still so embarrassed over how he was with her - how betty knows him from the most embarrassing era of his life - but they're still these kind of awkward friends who interact practically every day in a professional work environment but still have this playful flirtatiousness between them, because they have that awkward bit of history together. i love them. i love them. they're such an underrated pair.

I'm so glad to recruit someone else to my hepatoscopy group because it is a long and storied tradition with many many different types of study and schools of thought dating all the way back to the Sumerians! It's an extremely underrated bit of study when it comes to sketching portraits of divination and prophecy when it comes to adaptations of imaginings of greek myth works - similar to bird augury (which was such a widespread skill that most people had some level of understanding of the basics of what the omens of common birds meant the way people now can look at the clouds over head and know if it'll rain and when approximately that rain'll happen).

It's a great and common misunderstanding that things like prophecy and magic were these fantastic elements that had no tangible features to their practices and while there's nothing wrong with interpreting things as more fantastical for the sake of coolness or aesthetic, I personally think these elements are interesting enough to be worth looking into and portraying!

as someone who has only seen the anime i want to know what are the main issues with Samatoki because that's the main one i hear everyone has a problem with (particularly because im thinking of writing fanfic and i dont want people mad at me)

from what i can recall, samatoki’s character was depicted far better in s1 than in s2??? but the point that they share is that he has no chill when outside of the anime samatoki absolutely does lol

ik i just said s1 did it better lol, but i really noticed they did samatoki dirty in s1:12 when after mtc lost, we saw samatoki punching a wall in frustration lmao. thing is, we saw how samatoki handled their loss in the 1st drb, and that was by calling his team over for some coffee, bragging about his brew when juto was shook by how good it was lol, and then thanked them for fighting with him. juto prior to that scene was worried that samatoki called them over to yell at them, so that track purposely went out of its way to establish that expectation that samatoki would have explosive anger, and then subverted it

samatoki’s anger doesn’t really manifest explosively???? it’s very intense, but asanuma-san told us he portrays samatoki’s true anger by dropping his voice low and talking really fast and honestly i think whenever samatoki is about to start/is fighting or is annoyed is when samatoki actually raises his voice

like his introductory scene in s1 where he’s patrolling yokohama very solemnly and beating up people who threaten the people on his turf is how he operates most of the time lol, he’s got a questionable sense of humour lol (eg telling ichiro he’s missed him upon reuniting with him before the 1st drb even tho he very clearly detested him lmao, or telling juto if he’s grateful for his gifts, he can always pay him back with his body LOL), has never destroyed property even at his lowest like we saw samatoki struggling with withdrawal did (but he did try to get piss drunk and took his anger out on street thugs in a parallel with his father), wouldn’t let his withdrawals get to that point in the first place bc he’s not fcking stupid juto had cigarettes on him even if they weren’t his preferred brand, and does value partnerships and getting help from others, something he needed to learn as his ‘character development’ in s1 (when he learned that prior with sasara and decided he wanted to attach himself to juto and helping him reach his goals)
