US eyes AGI breakthrough in escalating China tech rivalry

US eyes AGI breakthrough in escalating China tech rivalry
.pp-multiple-authors-boxes-wrapper display:none; img width:100%;
The emerging US-China Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) rivalry could face a major policy transformation, as the US-China Economic and Security Review Commission (USCC) recommends a Manhattan Project-style initiative and restrictions on humanoid robots in its latest report to Congress.
Released in November 2024, the Commission’s annual report outlined 32 recommendations that could fundamentally alter how the two countries interact, with artificial intelligence taking centre stage in a new chapter of strategic rivalry.
US-China: the AGI moonshot and critical tech controls
At the heart of the report lies an ambitious proposal: establishing a government-backed programme to develop AGI – AI systems that could match and potentially exceed human cognitive abilities.
However, the recommendation is just one piece of a larger technological puzzle, including export controls, investment screening, and new trade policies to preserve US technological advantages.
The proposed AGI initiative would provide multi-year contracts to leading AI companies, cloud providers, and data centre operators. It would be backed by the Defense Department’s highest priority, “DX Rating” – a designation typically reserved for critical national security projects.
This level of government involvement in AI development mirrors the urgency seen in previous technological races. It raises crucial questions about the role of state intervention in an industry primarily driven by private sector innovation.
The Commission’s tech-focused recommendations extend beyond AI. Notable proposals include restricting imports of Chinese-made autonomous humanoid robots with advanced dexterity, locomotion, and intelligence capabilities.
The report also targets energy infrastructure products with remote monitoring capabilities, reflecting growing concerns about connected technologies in critical infrastructure. The report builds on existing export controls in the semiconductor space by recommending stronger oversight of technology transfers and investment flows.
This comes as China continues to build domestic chip-making capabilities despite international restrictions. The Commission suggests creating an Outbound Investment Office that prevents US capital and expertise from advancing China’s technological capabilities in sensitive sectors.
Reshaping trade relations and investment flows
Perhaps most significantly, the report recommends eliminating China’s Permanent Normal Trade Relations (PNTR) status—a move that could reshape the technology supply chain and trade flows that have defined the global tech industry for decades. This recommendation acknowledges how deeply intertwined the US and Chinese tech ecosystems have become, while suggesting that this interdependence may now pose more risks than benefits.
Data transparency is another key theme, with recommendations for expanded reporting requirements on investments and technology transfers. The Commission calls for better tracking of investments flowing through offshore entities, addressing a significant blind-spot in current oversight mechanisms.
The report’s release comes at a critical juncture in technological development. China’s push for self-sufficiency in vital technologies and its “new quality productive forces” initiative demonstrates Beijing’s determination to lead in next-generation technologies. Meanwhile, AI capabilities and quantum computing breakthroughs have raised the stakes in technology competition.
However, the Commission’s recommendations face practical challenges. Achieving AGI remains a complex scientific challenge that may not yield quick results, regardless of funding levels. Additionally, restrictions on technology transfers and investment could have unintended consequences for global innovation networks that have historically benefited both nations.
If these recommendations are implemented, the tech industry may need to navigate an increasingly complex regulatory landscape. Companies would face new compliance requirements for international investments, technology transfers, and collaborative research projects.
Challenges and future implications
The effectiveness of the proposed measures will likely depend on coordination with allies and partners who share similar technological capabilities and concerns. The report acknowledges this by recommending multilateral approaches to export controls and investment screening.
US-China technological competition has entered a new phase where government policy may play a more direct role in shaping development. Whether this approach accelerates or hinders innovation remains to be seen, but the tech industry should prepare for increased scrutiny and regulation of international technological collaboration.

This is it. Generative AI, as a commercial tech phenomenon, has reached its apex. The hype is evaporating. The tech is too unreliable, too often. The vibes are terrible. The air is escaping from the bubble. To me, the question is more about whether the air will rush out all at once, sending the tech sector careening downward like a balloon that someone blew up, failed to tie off properly, and let go—or more slowly, shrinking down to size in gradual sputters, while emitting embarrassing fart sounds, like a balloon being deliberately pinched around the opening by a smirking teenager. But come on. The jig is up. The technology that was at this time last year being somberly touted as so powerful that it posed an existential threat to humanity is now worrying investors because it is apparently incapable of generating passable marketing emails reliably enough. We’ve had at least a year of companies shelling out for business-grade generative AI, and the results—painted as shinily as possible from a banking and investment sector that would love nothing more than a new technology that can automate office work and creative labor—are one big “meh.” As a Bloomberg story put it last week, “Big Tech Fails to Convince Wall Street That AI Is Paying Off.” From the piece: Amazon.com Inc., Microsoft Corp. and Alphabet Inc. had one job heading into this earnings season: show that the billions of dollars they’ve each sunk into the infrastructure propelling the artificial intelligence boom is translating into real sales. In the eyes of Wall Street, they disappointed. Shares in Google owner Alphabet have fallen 7.4% since it reported last week. Microsoft’s stock price has declined in the three days since the company’s own results. Shares of Amazon — the latest to drop its earnings on Thursday — plunged by the most since October 2022 on Friday. Silicon Valley hailed 2024 as the year that companies would begin to deploy generative AI, the type of technology that can create text, images and videos from simple prompts. This mass adoption is meant to finally bring about meaningful profits from the likes of Google’s Gemini and Microsoft’s Copilot. The fact that those returns have yet to meaningfully materialize is stoking broader concerns about how worthwhile AI will really prove to be. Meanwhile, Nvidia, the AI chipmaker that soared to an absurd $3 trillion valuation, is losing that value with every passing day—26% over the last month or so, and some analysts believe that’s just the beginning. These declines are the result of less-than-stellar early results from corporations who’ve embraced enterprise-tier generative AI, the distinct lack of killer commercial products 18 months into the AI boom, and scathing financial analyses from Goldman Sachs, Sequoia Capital, and Elliot Management, each of whom concluded that there was “too much spend, too little benefit” from generative AI, in the words of Goldman, and that it was “overhyped” and a “bubble” per Elliot. As CNN put it in its report on growing fears of an AI bubble, Some investors had even anticipated that this would be the quarter that tech giants would start to signal that they were backing off their AI infrastructure investments since “AI is not delivering the returns that they were expecting,” D.A. Davidson analyst Gil Luria told CNN. The opposite happened — Google, Microsoft and Meta all signaled that they plan to spend even more as they lay the groundwork for what they hope is an AI future. This can, perhaps, explain some of the investor revolt. The tech giants have responded to mounting concerns by doubling, even tripling down, and planning on spending tens of billions of dollars on researching, developing, and deploying generative AI for the foreseeable future. All this as high profile clients are canceling their contracts. As surveys show that overwhelming majorities of workers say generative AI makes them less productive. As MIT economist and automation scholar Daron Acemoglu warns, “Don’t believe the AI hype.”

By embracing decentralization and democratization, we can create a future where individuals and communities thrive, fostering a more equitable and sustainable world for all. Remember, the power lies within our collective hands – let's use it wisely to shape a brighter future built on shared ownership, collaboration, and empowered communities.
Focus on collective prosperity
Universal basic income, resource sharing, and collaborative economic models may gain momentum. Aquarius prioritizes the good of the collective, advocating for equitable distribution of resources and opportunities. Expect a rise in social safety nets, universal basic income initiatives, and policies aimed at closing the wealth gap. Environmental health is intrinsically linked to collective prosperity. We'll see a focus on sustainable practices, green economies, and resource sharing to ensure a thriving planet for generations to come. Communities will come together to address social challenges like poverty, homelessness, and healthcare disparities, recognizing that individual success is interwoven with collective well-being. Invest in localized marketing campaigns, and utilize platforms like LinkedIn and Google Ads to target decision-makers effectively.
4. Implement Account-Based Marketing (ABM)
ABM is a powerful strategy where marketing and sales teams work collaboratively to target high-value accounts. Instead of casting a wide net, focus your resources on a select group of prospects, delivering customized campaigns that directly address their specific needs.
Tumblr media
5. Enhance Your Digital Presence
Your online presence is often the first impression potential clients have of your business. Ensure your website is optimized for SEO, mobile-friendly, and offers a seamless user experience. Regularly update blogs, whitepapers, and case studies that demonstrate your expertise and add value to your audience.
6. Develop Multi-Channel Outreach
Gone are the days when email alone could drive sales. Today’s B2B buyers expect communication across multiple channels, including email, phone, social media, and even in-person meetings. A well-coordinated outreach strategy ensures you’re reaching prospects wherever they are most active.
7. Invest in Value-Driven Content
Content is the backbone of B2B marketing. Create in-depth whitepapers, blogs, videos, and case studies that address the challenges your prospects face. Use content as a tool to educate and build trust, positioning your business as a thought leader in your industry.

Partnering with complementary businesses can open doors to new opportunities. For instance, a software provider could partner with a consulting firm to offer bundled services, creating value for both companies and their customers.
11. Focus on Customer Retention
It’s often said that retaining a customer is more cost-effective than acquiring a new one. Implement loyalty programs, provide excellent post-sale support, and continuously engage with your existing customers to ensure they remain loyal advocates for your brand.
12. Harness the Power of Video Marketing
Video content is increasingly becoming a preferred medium for B2B buyers. Use explainer videos, product demos, and client testimonials to engage prospects and communicate your value proposition effectively.
13. Encourage Referrals
Happy customers can become your best brand ambassadors. Develop a referral program that incentivizes your existing clients to recommend your services to their network.
14. Monitor Competitors
Keeping a close eye on your competitors can provide valuable insights. Identify what’s working for them and where they might be falling short. Use this information to refine your strategies and gain a competitive edge.
Tumblr media
15. Expand Internationally
If your business hasn’t explored international markets yet, 2025 might be the year to do so. Develop localized strategies to address the specific needs and cultural preferences of global audiences.
16. Use Social Proof to Build Credibility
Social proof, such as client testimonials, success stories, and case studies, plays a crucial role in establishing trust. Showcase these prominently on your website and marketing materials to demonstrate your capabilities.
17. Align Sales and Marketing Teams
Silos between sales and marketing teams can hinder your growth. Align their goals and encourage collaboration to create a seamless journey from lead generation to conversion.
18. Host Webinars and Events
Webinars and events are excellent ways to educate your audience, showcase your expertise, and generate new leads. Offer valuable insights during these sessions to leave a lasting impression on your prospects.

As a B2B business, your contact database is one of the most valuable assets you have. It enables targeted sales outreach, precision marketing, and effective lead generation, thus driving sales and growth. In this article, we will explore seven key strategies for enhancing your B2B contact database for superior targeting. By implementing these strategies, you can significantly enhance your targeting, boost conversions, and drive business growth.

Regularly Cleanse and Update Your Database
A clean and updated B2B contact database is essential for effective sales prospecting and business development. Regularly purge outdated information, remove duplicates, and update existing contact data to maintain accuracy. CRM integration can automate this process, ensuring your database remains current and reliable. By keeping your database clean and up-to-date, you can ensure that your sales and marketing efforts are based on accurate and relevant information.
Segment Your Contact Database
Segmentation is a powerful tool for B2B lead generation and sales prospecting. It involves categorizing your database into distinct groups based on shared characteristics, such as industry type, company size, or role. This facilitates personalized communication, enhancing engagement and conversion rates. By segmenting your contact database, you can tailor your messaging and content to specific audience segments, increasing the relevance and effectiveness of your communication.
Implement a Lead Scoring System
Lead scoring is a crucial aspect of B2B lead generation and sales funnel optimization. It assigns value to each contact based on their potential to convert into a customer. It helps prioritize your outreach, ensuring you focus on high-value leads, which can lead to improved sales opportunities. By implementing a lead scoring system, you can allocate your resources effectively and focus on the leads that are most likely to result in conversions.
Embrace Account-Based Marketing (ABM)
Account-Based Marketing (ABM) is a highly effective B2B marketing strategy that targets specific high-value accounts with customized campaigns. Integrating ABM with your B2B contact database ensures a highly tailored approach, enhancing your chances of winning over key accounts. By aligning your marketing and sales efforts with the specific needs and preferences of target accounts, you can increase engagement and drive business growth.

Leverage Data Analysis
Data analysis is a powerful tool for B2B lead generation and sales prospecting. It helps you uncover invaluable insights into your contacts' behavior and preferences, guiding your marketing and sales strategy. By analyzing data from your B2B contact database, you can make data-driven decisions and optimize your targeting efforts. You can also use data analysis to identify emerging markets and stay ahead of the competition.
Utilize AI for Enhanced Database Management
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming the way B2B businesses manage their contact databases. AI-powered systems can automate tasks like data cleansing, lead scoring, and market segmentation, leaving your team free to focus on creating effective sales and marketing strategies. By leveraging AI technology, you can improve the efficiency and accuracy of your database management processes, saving time and resources.
Adopt a Continuous Improvement Approach
Data management is not a one-time activity. Consistently review your strategies and update them based on performance data and evolving market trends. This will keep your database agile and ensure your targeting remains effective. By continuously improving your B2B contact database and refining your targeting strategies, you can stay ahead of the competition and drive ongoing business growth.
In summary, optimizing your B2B contact database involves regular updates, effective segmentation, lead scoring, ABM, data analysis, AI integration, and a continuous improvement mindset. These strategies, when implemented correctly, can significantly enhance your targeting, boost conversions, and drive business growth. By leveraging the power of a well-optimized B2B contact database, you can unlock the full potential of your sales and marketing efforts.

Salesforce launches AI platform for automated task management

Business Insider’s “CXO AI Playbook” looks at how firms are utilising AI to tackle challenges, scale operations, and plan for the future.
The Playbook looks at stories from various industries to see what problems AI is solving, who’s driving these initiatives, and how it’s reshaping strategies.
Salesforce, well known for its CRM software used by over 150,000 companies like Amazon and Walmart, is no stranger to innovation. It also owns Slack, the popular workplace communication app. Salesforce is now stepping up its AI game with Agentforce, a platform that lets businesses to build and deploy digital agents to automate tasks such as creating sales reports and summarising Slack conversations.
What problem is it solving?
Salesforce has been working with AI for years. In 2016, it launched Einstein, an AI feature baked into its CRM platform. Einstein handled basic scriptable tasks, but the rise of generative AI brought a chance to do more. Smarter tools could now make better decisions and understand natural language.
This sparked a transformation. First came Einstein GPT, then Einstein Copilot, and now Agentforce—a platform designed for flexibility with prebuilt and customisable agents to handle diverse business needs.
“Our customers wanted more. Some wanted to tweak the agents we offer, while others wanted to create their own,” said Tyler Carlson, Salesforce’s VP of Business Development.
The tech behind it
Agentforce is powered by Salesforce’s Atlas Reasoning Engine, developed in-house. The platform connects with AI models from major players like OpenAI, Anthropic, Amazon, and Google, giving businesses access to a variety of tools.
Slack has become a testing ground for these AI agents. Currently in beta, Agentforce’s Slack integration puts automations where employees already spend their time. “Slack makes these tools easy to use and accessible,” Carlson added.
Smarter, more flexible AI
Agentforce uses ReAct prompting, a technique that helps agents break down problems into smaller steps and adjust their approach as they go. This leads to more accurate responses and hands-off task management, from answering questions to scheduling meetings.
Agentforce works with Salesforce’s proprietary LLMs and third-party models, giving clients plenty of options. To ensure security, Salesforce enforces strict data privacy policies, including limits on data retention.
Making it work for businesses
With tools like Agentbuilder, companies can design AI agents tailored to their needs. For example, an agent could sort emails or answer specific HR questions using internal data. One example is Salesforce’s collaboration with Workday to create an AI service agent for employee queries.
Salesforce is already seeing results, with Agentforce resolving 90% of customer inquiries in early trials. The goal? Broader adoption, more capabilities, and higher workloads handled by these agents.
“We’re building a bigger ecosystem of partners and skills,” Carlson said. “By next year, we want Agentforce to be a must-have for businesses.”

India’s Tech Sector to Create 1.2 Lakh AI Job Vacancies in Two Years
India’s technology sector is set to experience a hiring boom with job vacancies for artificial intelligence (AI) roles projected to reach 1.2 lakh over the next two years. As the demand for AI latest technology increases across industries, companies are rapidly adopting advanced tools to stay competitive. These new roles will span across tech services, Global Capability Centres (GCCs), pure-play AI and analytics firms, startups, and product companies.
Following a slowdown in tech hiring, the focus is shifting toward the development of AI. Market analysts estimate that Indian companies are moving beyond Proof of Concept (PoC) and deploying large-scale AI systems, generating high demand for roles such as AI researchers, product managers, and data application specialists. “We foresee about 120,000 to 150,000 AI-related job vacancies emerging as Indian IT services ramp up AI applications,” noted Gaurav Vasu, CEO of UnearthInsight.
India currently has 4 lakh AI professionals, but the gap between demand and supply is widening, with job requirements expected to reach 6 lakh soon. By 2026, experts predict the number of AI specialists required will hit 1 million, reflecting the deep integration of AI latest technology into industries like healthcare, e-commerce, and manufacturing.
The transition to AI-driven operations is also altering the nature of job vacancies. Unlike traditional software engineering roles, artificial intelligence positions focus on advanced algorithms, automation, and machine learning. Companies are recruiting experts in fields like deep learning, robotics, and natural language processing to meet the growing demand for innovative AI solutions. The development of AI has led to the rise of specialised roles such as Machine Learning Engineers, Data Scientists, and Prompt Engineers.
Krishna Vij, Vice President of TeamLease Digital, remarked that new AI roles are evolving across industries as AI latest technology becomes an essential tool for product development, operations, and consulting. “We expect close to 120,000 new job vacancies in AI across different sectors like finance, healthcare, and autonomous systems,” he said.
AI professionals also enjoy higher compensation compared to their traditional tech counterparts. Around 80% of AI-related job vacancies offer premium salaries, with packages 40%-80% higher due to the limited pool of trained talent. “The low availability of experienced AI professionals ensures that artificial intelligence roles will command attractive pay for the next 2-3 years,” noted Krishna Gautam, Business Head of Xpheno.
Candidates aiming for AI roles need to master key competencies. Proficiency in programming languages like Python, R, Java, or C++ is essential, along with knowledge of AI latest technology such as large language models (LLMs). Expertise in statistics, machine learning algorithms, and cloud computing platforms adds value to applicants. As companies adopt AI latest technology across domains, candidates with critical thinking and  AI adaptability will stay ahead so it is important to learn and stay updated with AI informative blogs & news.
Although companies are prioritising experienced professionals for mid-to-senior roles, entry-level job vacancies are also rising, driven by the increased use of AI in enterprises. Bootcamps, certifications, and academic programs are helping freshers gain the skills required for artificial intelligence roles. As AI development progresses, entry-level roles are expected to expand in the near future. AI is reshaping the industries providing automation & the techniques to save time , to increase work efficiency.
India’s tech sector is entering a transformative phase, with a surge in job vacancies linked to AI latest technology adoption. The next two years will witness fierce competition for AI talent, reshaping hiring trends across industries and unlocking new growth opportunities in artificial intelligence. Both startups and established companies are racing to secure talent, fostering a dynamic landscape where artificial intelligence expertise will be help in innovation and growth. AI will help organizations and businesses to actively participate in new trends.
