just found out the upcoming flight simulator has a walkaround mode where you can literally wander around uncanny ai 3d upscaled bing maps earth with zero restrictions. they finally went and put heaven in a video game.

#:)#anyone here remember the incomprehensible garbled nightmare geometry realms that cities were in flight simulator 2020 #endless planes of jagged polygons and impossibly scaled geometry. human beings rendered as 6 foot wide 200 foot tall skyscrapers #roads leading into nowhere and themselves. cars melting into the ground etc etc. you get the picture #i used to explore these with autoflight + freecam but now i don't even need to bother with that set up #the planes in microsoft flightsim are a ruse. the real game is about exploring a patchwork badly rendered scale model earth replica #rural china was my favorite place to go because the american map companies had incomplete satellite data there #so what you got was a computer's ephemeral attempts at dreaming up a landscape it could not properly conceive of #they've probably got shit more accurate with map data + ai enhancements in the last few years #but i still really hope for swathes of uncanny procedurally generated earth to explore

Adam Conover did a good video on this recently. The whole thing is beginning to look a lot like a "line must go up" housing-crash bubble. Worthless things being hyped up and sold as valuable things doesn't actually make them valuable, and sooner or later people figure that out and the value plummets back to its actual worth.

Thankfully they think it won't tank as much of the country as the 2008 housing bubble did because it's not so integrated into our economy, but still. Tech-hype growth has been an unsustainable investor-fed ponzi scheme all along. There is no such thing as permanent exponential growth. It doesn't exist. And unless they invent the damn holodeck in the next year or two, it's going to become clear that they've got nothing consumers would want, their whole house of cards is going to fall a part, and a shitton of ordinary people in Silicon Valley are going to lose their jobs.

Hi, the article linked says nothing about AI being at fault, nor have I managed to find any other articles that say so. Charlotte AI (the AI that crowdstrike developed) is designed for crowdstrike’s customers, the chances of them using it to write their own software is slim.

Silicon Valley’s current use of generative AI is shitty as fuck and the tech industry as a whole is shitty as fuck, but this was (as far as I know) due to human error and corporate irresponsibility

so you’re saying half the world was shut down by too many companies using 1 single company’s software so that when it pushed out a faulty update it shut everything down bc of a monopoly. and the update was shoddy because the company, much like a lot of tech companies, tried to replace human workers with bullshit generative AI
